Just represent yourself, so you can save money on attorney fees. Is that good advice? >> It's a terrible idea to represent yourself in court. I think people really know it's a bad idea. They think they can do it because now they've got ChatGPT, and they really do think they can represent themselves effectively. I'm an attorney. I've been doing this nearly, I don't know, defense attorney almost 30 years, and before that I was a cop for 10 years. I've worked for the DA's office. I'm on every side of this justice system for the last 38 or 40 years. I would never represent myself if I were charged with a crime. I would absolutely hire a lawyer to represent me. If you don't have money, go to the public defender's office. They're going to appoint a lawyer to represent you for free. I would much rather go with the public defender's office than represent myself. And I'm a lawyer. So, that tells you something.
