be
uh an incident where officers arrested a
man with a weapon outside of a bar
the officers were responding to a shot
spotter call
which is a computer system in the city
of columbus that detects
gunshots and then it triangulates the
location
using microphones across the city and
tells the officers exactly where the
gunshots occurred
while officers were responding somebody
called 9-1-1
and gave a description of the person who
was firing the gun
officers arrived on scene quickly
observed somebody matching that
description
then realized he was concealing a weapon
the officers ordered him to the ground
he got on the ground he pitched the gun
they were able to take him into custody
with very little incident
unfortunately this happened about the
same time
as the george floyd protests were going
on and the riots that occurred
afterwards
so uh when everyone started spilling out
of the bar
the officers were met with quite a
hostile crowd
they ended up scooping the man up and
transporting him pretty quickly
to a safe location so they could do
their paperwork call detectives
all that information that had to be
relayed
i left quite a bit of content in this
particular video
i left uh a lot of the stuff where the
officers were talking to the detective
and just a lot of the kind of random
conversation they had with the male who
they arrested
in this particular case i thought it was
interesting to show
what happens when officers respond to a
potentially
very dangerous and very very violent
situation
but they encounter a suspect who
complied 100 with what was going on he
was
intelligent enough to know that he was
in a very dangerous situation
and uh he did what he had to do to uh
safely i guess for lack of a better term
make sure that the situation didn't
escalate further um

information that one of the guys with a

they were circulating they said they saw
somebody matching a description in an
alley
right next to the bar pulled over there
guy is coming toward me walking toward
my cruiser
uh he's got a pistol on his hand tries
to shove in his waistband drops it
behind him
i order him down at gunpoint he prunes
out complies
we recover the gun we didn't stick
around much because they started pouring
out of the bar and if you
are going to be shocked to hear this
they weren't real happy to see us there
so we recovered the gun grabbed him put
him in a car and
moved him up to a different location so
we could run and call you and do all
that so
he's 100 complying i do believe he's
wood
but he's no issue now
gun is not stolen
i don't know if it was even captured on
my body camera because when i came
around the corner um
i didn't have time to turn it on because
he had a pistol in his hand so i just
popped that real quick put him at
gunpoint

admitted to it and he's like man i'm not

so the gun was recovered about six feet
from behind where he was proned out but
i just kind of stood by him and then had
to cover my partner because there was a
large group outside
so i couldn't immediately cuff him but
