Why am I being arrested? >> Because of how you left the dog. >> Okay. The dog was left for an extended period of time in the vehicle with no water, no food, no nothing. >> So, what's going to happen is animal care is here, okay? So, they have to take the dog. >> Not all pet owners deserve the title. Some are so awful in their neglect that they leave animals in seriously threatening conditions that police officers have to step in moments before things take a tragic turn. >> Here, sugar. >> Come here, sugar. >> We're going to do a walkthrough of this house. Okay, >> whatever. >> Okay, >> I really don't care. >> I mean, there's poop on the floor. You can smell ammonia from where you're at when the wind's blowing here out of the north. I mean, it's awful. I mean, I'm not going in that house and tracking. I could see from right there the piles of poop in this front room. Are we filing a warrant for animal neglect? Probably based on the conditions of the house. >> Here are several moments when cops have rescued pets in the last second. Starting with a dog abandoned in a car for nearly a full day under the blazing sun. His non-stop gulping of water said it all. A clear sign of stress, dehydration, and neglect. There we go. Come on, dude. >> Good boy. >> Okay. >> Okay, take a break. >> Left last night. What time was that? >> I left him in the afternoon. Late afternoon. >> You told me that you left him last night. >> On May the 5th, 2024, officers responded to a call about a golden retriever locked in a parked car with no owner in sight. The vehicle sat in an empty lot with no shade, the engine off, and the windows barely lowered. It was parked in direct sunlight with no water and no cooling. The outside temperature was in the mid80s, and the dog had been left there for nearly 24 hours. Come on. Come out. Come out. Come on. Come on. Come on. There we go. Come on. Come on. Come on. There you go. There you go. I've never actually >> Okay, I just want to get him wet a little bit cuz I know he's hot. Yeah. So, come here. >> His name's Come on. Come on. I know, buddy. There you go. >> Give me uh give me one second, I think. >> Not long after, the driver, who happened to also be the dog owner, showed up. But despite his arrival at the scene, the encounter took a turn no one saw coming as the dog showed clear signs of neglect. >> Is this your car, sir? >> Yeah, it is. >> Okay. So, this is registered to you. >> Where you going? >> Right here. >> She's in the back for what? Your dog? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Give a minute. It's in the back of my car. There's AC on in there. Okay. >> Gary, can we get the dog some water or is he good or what? >> Yeah, he's good. We can get the dog water, but I have to talk to him first. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Uh, he might try and run out. He hasn't reached. >> Hi, baby. Wait, wait, wait. Hi, baby. I got good boy. >> Okay. Okay. Take a break. Just a little bit. Just a little bit. We don't want you sick. Come on. Okay. Okay. All right, that's it. That's it. That's it. Go back in. Go back in. Come on, baby. Come on. Can someone help me get the dog back in the car? >> Come on, baby. No. Hurry. Make him jump in the car with the water. Take the water in the car. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Here. >> Come on. Come on. >> Let me get under you. Come on, dog. Get in. Wait. Wait. Come on. Come on. >> Go the other side. Open the other door. Come on. Come on. This way. Come on. Come on. So, I do just have to talk to you before I ask you any kind of questions or anything like that. I have to let you know of your your rights. Okay? So, before we start, I'm required to warn you, before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional rights. Do you understand? >> Okay. So, that being said, I do just have a couple of questions. Um, the dog that was this this vehicle, this is your vehicle, correct? >> Okay. And so the dog that was inside the vehicle, that's your dog, correct? What's the dog's name? >> Mr. Bojangles. >> Mr. Bojangles. >> You know how old uh >> Mr. Bojangles is? >> Three. >> How long have you had him for? >> Since he was a puppy. Uh 10 weeks. >> When When did you leave him in the car is what I'm trying to ask. >> Last night. >> Last night. So you left him last night. >> So what reason did you leave him here in the car? >> He's fine in the car for like an hour or so. >> Did you leave him any kind of water, food, anything like that in the car? I walked him uh and I gave him water. >> What did you put the water in? >> Uh cup. >> Cup. >> Yeah. >> And so you you said last night around What time did you leave here? Uh-huh. This were sunfest last night and uh um >> what was the question? >> Around what time last night did you leave him in the car here? And you said that you left last night. What time was that? >> I left him in the afternoon. Late afternoon. >> You told me that you left him last night. I said I was looking for him last night. >> Right. So, how would you have been looking for him last night but didn't leave him? Obviously, you would have had to leave him if you were looking for him. Correct. >> Yeah. He was in the car, >> right? >> Uh so I was looking for at for him. >> Mhm. And then you couldn't find him. Correct. >> I couldn't find him. And so I gave up. >> I uh fell asleep. The story wasn't adding up, but officers continued asking questions, and the more the man talked, the more inconsistent his story became. >> Last night and at 6:00 this morning, I started to look under >> Okay. Where? So, from 6:00 until you came back over here in the car, where were you? >> Where was I? >> Yeah. >> Uh, at my sister's house. >> Okay. And when you got to your sister's house, did you mention anything about the dog? Yeah. >> Okay. Did you guys come look for the dog? >> We were We were on our way. >> You were on your way? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. Is there anything else that you want to tell me? Anything else you feel is relevant to my investigation? >> No. >> No. >> No. You know, um, my heart is broke, you know, from leaving and and >> Okay. Have you ever Has this ever happened before? No. >> The story was full of holes, but luckily another witness stepped forward. Their account helped piece together what had happened. >> It's my uncle. >> It's your uncle. >> He is not well. >> Okay. >> He uh he kind of disappeared. Um went all the way up to New York, back to Florida. He's like not mentally there anymore. Just kind of like fell apart. Um, and today my mom called me while I was at work saying that my uncle just appeared at her house. Just walked up with nothing. >> So, what's going to happen is animal care is here. Okay. So, they have to take the dog. >> Okay. >> All right. They're going to call you once they once they check the dog out. So, once the dog is determined to be okay to be released. So, once they get the dog out of my car, you'll go into my car. >> Why am I being arrested? because of how you left the dog. Okay. The dog was left for an extended period of time in the vehicle with no water, no food, no nothing. We had a call about a dog and I got here and the dog was clearly in distress. Okay. >> He had water. Uh >> there was no water when I was here >> twice last night. >> Okay. Well, it's also South Florida and it's extremely hot and sunny. Okay. So for him to be in that car all day by himself with no water, no nothing. Okay. >> In the end, he was charged with unlawful confinement of an animal and animal cruelty. While that case was a close call, it was nothing compared to this next rescue. A true house of horrors. Officers could barely stay inside for more than a few minutes. >> We didn't abandon any of them. I live here. >> You live here? >> Yes, I live here. >> All right. Well, let's check it out and mix it. And if everything looks good, we'll go about our business. >> If you're in front of this, remember, >> no, sugar. >> Come here, sugar. >> I can see from right there the piles of poop in this front room. I mean, that's terrible. >> On February the 13th, 2023, police and animal control responded to a disturbing call about a home where animal cruelty had become the norm. Inside, the animals were barely hanging on. Hi, >> we've got complaints on the dogs here and we just have to go in and do what's going on. >> Um, right now the house is a disaster because the dogs tore the c the couch up last night and see what's going on. Whatever. Why? We didn't abandon any of them. I live here. You live here? >> Yes, I live here. >> All right. Well, let's check it out and make sure and if everything looks good, we'll go about our business. >> Well, I guarantee you the house is a disaster right now. I have a good house. I just got off work. >> Are these two that are loose up here now? >> Yeah. These two you guys neuter, but they don't have. What What's going to be the easiest for them? Is it easier to get a leash and put them in the truck so we can go in or? >> Um, I let them out. I don't have a leash right now, but >> Right. That's why I'm asking if I go get a leash. Can we just secure them in the truck for now? Is that okay? >> Yeah, that's fine. Let me get the leash. >> If you do, they'll take off running. >> I got you. We don't need that. >> CeCe loves to run. I don't care how long she's outside. She loves to run. Which one's that? >> The pit. >> The one in the window. >> Yep. Is this one? >> What's her name? >> Torian. >> Do you own all the dogs here? These two are my grandsons. Oh, >> okay. >> But I got all paperwork on them. >> Gota [Music] down. Down. [Music] >> All right. Go on a track with me. >> I call everything a boy. >> You ask me. >> They love to run. >> Oh, yeah. >> And they do get outside, but they don't get outside very often. Gabby always smell the house from here. Hi there. >> I have that door open. >> I haven't been able to clean yet. >> After rescuing two pups from the home, officers moved in to document the scene. And that was when things took a turn downhill and fast. >> You guys coming in? >> Yep. >> Is it okay? >> I don't care. Dogs don't have like diseases, do they? I'm not going to track diseases around. >> Yeah, I can tell right now. I haven't got this done cleaned up. >> Oh, mama. >> I know. I haven't got it cleaned up yet. >> I haven't been home all week or long enough, I should say. >> This is a lot longer than a week. No, that's a week with the two dogs. >> All right, so the little dogs, you want to show me where they're at back here? >> Yeah, I smell like piss. [Applause] What's this? No way. Can I give animal control my camera and then we all kind of film it? Any position against that? Okay, I was about to start gagging. I can smell the ammonia smell strong. >> There ain't no way that we [Music] >> Hey, I want to give you this and you do like a hot lap with it. Okay. cuz there's no way I can stand in there right now. >> So, whenever you're ready, I'll give you this and just do a hot lap while the dogs are at this probably I also say you guys already got my grandma. >> I know. She She showed up always here. We didn't call her. >> I did. >> Oh, >> I was out. So, which dogs are yours that live here? >> The brown and white one. The one >> The two big ones. >> Yeah. Neighbor. >> The four little ones are mom's. >> Grandma's >> or grandma's. Sorry. >> No. The neighbor moved in. They got too close to my window. My dogs didn't like it and they shattered it. >> I mean, I'm going be completely honest. It's disgusting in there. >> Yeah. It is. No. >> That's why I don't live here. >> Well, >> I got kid and I got >> the dogs can't live here either. Yeah. So, what you need to do is surrender them and your grandma may surrender the other dogs and then we can go from there. But this is no living condition for a human or an animal and it's it's bad. >> Yeah, I moved out shortly. >> Your grandma been sleeping here? >> Uh, for time being till I fix her house. This is a friend's house. I'm renting here. I moved her out of here about a couple days. >> She's been here a couple days >> taking care of the dog. She normally stays out with >> Have you been in there? >> When I go in there, I water the dogs, take them out, let them go to the bathroom, backyard, >> but her house [Music] If you're in front of this, remember, >> no, Sugar, >> come here, sugar. >> We're going to do a walkthrough of this house. Okay, >> whatever. >> While the scene was already disturbing, officers had no idea that something even worse was waiting. Something that would make their hair stand on end. >> I really don't care anymore. >> Okay, you're going to do whatever you want to do anyway. >> Hi, baby. I know. Come here. Come here. >> I know. I see you, kiddo. >> I know. I see you. They are. In about a week and a half, they'll be a lot cleaner when they get the bath and everything else. And I have weekend to clean. Now, the kitchen. No, it's been a longer than a week because I don't go in the kitchen, Jackie. Fine. Come on. >> Yeah. Come on. >> Sassy will not come out for me. Okay. >> Is it okay if I open this back up? >> I don't care. But you're not going to get Sassy out of the bed. >> That's okay. Hi, baby. >> Come here, Sassy. Come on, baby. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. >> Do they have access to this room? >> No. >> This is the bathroom. None of them have access to the bathroom. And normally they don't have access to the kitchen. >> 4:30. 3 minutes. Um, since you I'm Are you cool with taking pictures with this camera for me? >> Yeah, I'll take pictures. >> She's sleeping in there. >> Grandma's sleeping here. >> Mhm. >> Danger. Where's the pictures at? These are our blur. >> How many dog? How many dogs we have? There's six >> total. Four. >> Four in the back. >> Shitzu ones in there that are matted, covered in >> and all this is on my camera. See, I made it to that front door and I was already gagging. >> Yeah, I walked through everywhere with the with your body cam. >> Thank you. >> There you go. Um he said he was planning not he was tired of taking care of the dogs and we go drop them off at your shelter, but he said you guys were full. So that's why he didn't yet. So it's not like you won't have a problem at least getting the two good ones. >> Ma'am, do you have a driver's license on you or ID card or something? >> Yeah. Oh, that's not my That's my military ID. >> Thank you. black in Oklahoma. >> Thank you, [Music] >> real quick. Mary. >> Huh? There four dogs in there that they won't hurt you. >> Mary, >> what >> what's a good phone number for you? >> And what's your social, man? After the quick rescue, officers began documenting the scene. And with every answer she gave, it became clear they weren't just dealing with neglect. They were dealing with someone truly unfit to care for anything. >> You own the four dogs in the back, correct? >> Well, no, I own two of them, but I've got all four of them. The other dogs I just have until the baby's out of the hospital. >> My sister, Fraser, oldest. Well, second oldest sister, >> but they're all under my name. >> Okay. So, what are the four dogs in the back? What are they? >> There's a long-haired Chihuahua. >> Okay. >> And then the puppy is a Chihuahua and Shih Tzu mix. And there's a Shih Tzu and Pomeranian mix and a Shih Tzu Pomeranian mix. >> Gotcha. >> Both mamas and puppies and puppy I should say. >> So both you guys are responsible for the care of the dogs. >> I'm responsible for the care of the dogs. >> All six of them. >> Yes. >> They get fed and watered every day. Well, I thought he said he comes over and waters him. So, >> well, he does during the day, but I feed and water him every day when I get home, too. >> So, technically, he he's also in charge of two dogs. >> When he comes over, he's got other things he does besides that. I I make sure they're fed and watered every day. >> And they go outside when I'm home. Not very often when anybody else is around because mine I work 4:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. >> Okay. What about the other hours of the day? >> Well, I usually go to bed between 8 and 9 at night. And like I said, if there if I'm home, then I let the two big ones out to run in the backyard. But I can't keep them Dorian, Cece, stop. They run in the backyard and the little ones go out when I go out. >> But you got to be out there with them because there's other big dogs in the neighborhood. >> How often is that? >> How often do they go out? At least two, three times a week. >> They only go outside two or three times a week. Well, when I'm out there with them, they go out practically every day, but we stay out there for two or three times a week for hours. >> Good. >> And Cece loves to go out the front door. Then you got to catch her, bring her back in. You can't leave them outside because they can get out of the fence. They haven't got out today cuz I just got home. [Music] I think Sassy. So due to the living conditions of the dogs, I think it's best to surrender the dogs because it's I mean how >> actually those two older dogs she has been asked for 6 months to take the children. >> Oh, can I talk or you'll keep interrupting me already because how this house is is awful. I mean, there's poop on the floor. You can smell ammonia from where you're at when the wind's blowing here out of the north. I mean, it's awful. And it's because of both of you not cleaning up after he said he had the two dogs in the front. You have four in the back. I mean, I'm not going in that house and tracking. I could see from right there the piles of poop in this front room. I mean, that's terrible. >> After weighing everything that they had seen, Officer Zo left with a tough decision. What caught them off guard though was how she reacted. It wasn't what anyone expected. >> So either I mean the dogs are going to either get seized or surrendered today. >> They can be surrendered. We tried to surrender those two about before they were ever. Yeah. So are uh spayed. We asked her last July to take those two. >> Yeah. >> So you're willing to take a lot of dogs. So, you're willing to surrender all six of them? >> Sure, why not? >> Okay. [Music] >> Don't put the little dogs with the two big dogs. >> The little ones don't get along with the big ones. >> The big ones don't get along with the little ones. >> Oh, so the little ones like the big ones, but the big ones don't like the little ones. >> Right. Gota. >> The little dogs get trampled by the big ones if you don't keep them separated. Go. I'll let them know. >> The four little ones, they are cooked together constantly. Sassy will be the one that'll be hard to get. >> Which one's that? One of the little ones out here or in the house still. >> The little W. >> No, Sassy is the Shih Tzu. >> Missy is the mama. And Sassy is the puppy. >> She said don't mix them. The little big ones. >> The big and little. Yeah, big ones don't like the little ones. >> They like them. They just trample them when they try to play with them >> because those two are still They're just barely a year old. >> Yeah, they got >> I've got their their uh paperwork that has their tags on it. Well, I got the ones before those two. Which one is >> sugar? [Music] [Music] She's a long hair. >> Is she normally supposed to be white? >> Um, white, cream. She's mostly white, >> putting all like brown like that on the bottom. >> No. >> Okay. Just curious. >> What? Just make sure you just have your signature and name. Okay. >> All right. Those are your only two dogs, correct? >> 38. need me for anything else. I can go back deal with my 2-year-old. >> No. Uh, I'll just be honest with both y'all while we're here. I'll be filing a warrant for animal neglect probably based on the conditions of the house and the conditions of the dogs living in their own feces and stuff. So, just >> 21 code will be in route. So just so you're aware of what investigation I'll be doing is just >> animal six. >> Do you have any questions for me? >> No, >> I'm good. >> I think I have to pick her up some work. The small one on the top. >> When did you guys move into the place over there? >> No, no, no, no. All right. She's going to take sugar. >> Okay. >> Hand it to her backwards. There you go. >> All right. I need you to sign this one. Name, phone number, address, signature. >> I moved >> over. When you and Beth got together, >> the officer made sure to cover all bases, closely, watching her every reaction. And sometimes the best way to learn the truth is to just let people talk. Is this dog normally white as well? >> Uh, she's all different colors. She's cream. She's gray. She's >> All right. Which one's this? >> But like the brown's not normal, right? >> Some of it. >> Missy. >> Sassy. >> Sassy. >> Missy was one we just did. And this is puppy. She's three. >> Four. Oh, yeah. She needs a turn again. Yeah. The puppy. Yeah, that's the one. Does she run from you? >> The puppy? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, she just runs. >> She just runs period. >> Okay, that one goes with Missy. >> Yum. She doesn't like to be help. nails. >> I'll probably fall. Are y'all going there from here? >> No, I think they're at the car. >> What about if you put like a brush on it? >> Yeah, I'm going. >> I No offense, but you guys were in that very long and you guys smell like our house. It's bad. >> It's on me. >> This one's even darker brown than the other ones. >> The two dogs my favorite. I took good pictures of it. >> Is this This dog's normally white, too, right? Not all >> white and cinnamon. And this is the baby. >> Yeah. Yum. Yum. 2-year-old. Yeah, they're all her mom. Sure. She's a Chihuahua. [Applause] How old is she? >> She should be. Hey, let me call you back here. Uh, in a few I'm doing animal >> cruelty case real quick. >> All right, buddy. >> All right. Back as well. Am I supposed to hurt? It's your name. [Music] >> All right. I have everything. >> I'm good for now. >> All right. We'll be in contact with you. Like I told like I said a little bit ago, I'll be filing charges for animal cruelty. Okay. Uh two for Kevin's dogs, then your dogs. I'm going to get the vet report and all that stuff. We'll get better pictures and then we'll go from there. Okay. If you have any if you have any questions, you can call the Blackwell Police Department. My name is Sergeant Landers and you can call and talk to me if you want to talk. If you have anything else to say, any concerns, just call up there. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Have a good day. In the end, she was charged with reckless endangerment and animal cruelty. Next up, an awful case where a dog was locked in a car, leading to a cruel and deeply disturbing outcome. >> Well, like I said, they obviously told somebody cuz the doors were open. >> When did she leave the dog in the car? >> That point? I don't know. >> So, by yesterday, the dog was there already. >> I don't know. I I I I I have no idea. All I know is that the flies are coming out of the party. >> On June the 22nd, 2023, officers responded to a call about suspected animal cruelty at a private home. What they found at the scene was deeply disturbing. >> Hey, what's going on, man? >> Please, please, please tell me you're going to prosecute this motherucker. Please. >> First off, I I don't even I don't even know what's going on. >> Somebody put a dog alive. >> Oh, sorry. I I I I had woken up this morning, came to bring my trash out. >> The guy that owns the trucks are not here. His girlfriend lives up there, but evidently she's been seeing his other ex-girlfriend, I guess, was staying up there with the current girlfriend >> and have the dog up there. >> And I guess she kicked her out and needless to say, she came down the truck, I guess, put the dog in there supposedly. If I would have known, I would have taken it out. >> And I walk out this morning, she called somebody to pick the dog out of the truck. This morning I woke up, there's a guy standing in front, the doors wide open. I'm like, "What's going on?" I looked dogs upside down. >> Okay. So, did you see him put the dog in the car? >> No, I guess they had called pulled the dog out of the truck. Somebody I don't know who they called or whatever, but I came out the door for >> So, how do you know it's their dog? >> Because I seen him yesterday. It's not their dog. It's ex-girlfriend's dog. The dog that I guess has nowhere to go. >> But ex-girlfriend's not here. No, but the person that she was with is upstairs in our apartment while she's doing laundry right now and she said she called at 2:30 in the morning. I'm like, somebody had to know that dog was in there. I'm sorry. Especially when she kicked her out. >> Did you see the dog alive in there? >> No, but this lady right here told me that they put the dog >> or she put the dog back and she's like, I don't want to get involved, but she's telling me every part of the story. I'm like, so if you knew the dog was over, go let the know cuz she actually dropped it off a day ago with this lady here cuz she had nowhere to bring it. She watched it and then I guess they took it back up there and then I guess now here's the result. >> Okay. Well, do this one. >> Somebody came when I when I came out the doors were open and then when I came back and I had touch the handle with one finger on the on the driving it's on it's on the driver's side. You can't I don't even know if you're going to be able to see it. >> It's underneath the floor. It's upside It's a pit. It's like literally upside down. to the puppy. >> No. >> I hope to god they cross. >> No, you can you see it? >> No, it's too dark. >> It's upside down like this. >> How even got in that position? I have no idea. Honestly, the worst part about this situation is no one knows that we like animals and we have a huge yard. >> And where do you live? >> I live in the house up front. Okay. Big, you know, big I got one lot for a yard. Where are they taking it from? You know what I mean? It's like >> And you say they live up here? >> She lives upstairs. I think she's doing laundry right now. But she's locked. She's got >> what what's her name? >> Anna. >> Okay. But that's not the ex-girlfriend. She's probably going to feed you a bunch of bull. So, >> but I know she had something. I mean, you're not going to tell me you didn't know the dog was in there. I don't get humans. I can give two ships, but the dog, man, there's >> Yeah. >> Probably be advised. There are a large amount of flies and file order coming from the car. However, it's tinted pretty dark and haven't opened the doors yet. Like I said, you know, you know, she told somebody to come down and open the doors. The doors weren't open. Doors are open. The dog wouldn't have been there. >> Yeah. >> Doors were wide open when it came out. >> Do you know how long more or less the dog was there for? >> I She says to me that she supposedly called 911 at 2 or 3 in the morning. since 2 or 3 in the morning. >> But I wouldn't >> I'm going tell you right now if that dog >> No, no, for flies to be around it for like >> thing is yesterday around 4:00 she had her daughter picked up by her grandparents. I think yesterday and the only reason why I say that cuz she got her daughter out of here yesterday 5:00 in the afternoon. >> Give me a sec. Hey, Serge. >> Yeah. The officers on the scene had a sense of what they were dealing with, but they still needed to know exactly what went down. So, they hung back, listening closely, waiting for the right moment to move. Every word counted if they were going to track down the suspect. >> Hannah is the new girlfriend of >> Yeah, the current girlfriend. >> The current girlfriend, the >> ex-girlfriend, but she knew about it. >> How do you How do you know if the ex-girlfriend is? >> Because I came out here and these girls are She had all her stuff scattered out like she got kicked out and she paid her to move in and then the next night they fought kicked out and I walk out one night and I hear her saying why am I paying you when you're my man and I'm like whoa you know what I mean that's I'm like too much information for me but that's basically what's going on here and I guess she threw out so she came down what took place and how long ago was the ex-girlfriend here >> I didn't see her the night before yesterday she had a dog in the She had the dog in the morning yesterday. So, and she had dropped it off at like 7:00 in the morning cuz I asked her, "What are you doing? Cuz I seen her walking the dog." I'm like, "What are you doing?" >> So, the dog was alive yesterday. >> Yes. Yes. >> You saw it walk. You saw her walking and everything. It must, like I said, it must have happened right after I seen her. She's like, "I hope this girl was a dog." >> What happened to her? Where's she at? Who's this? Somebody know. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> But like I said, they obviously told somebody the doors were open when I came out with somebody out here and then when I came back when I the out the doors were shut. >> Yeah. >> So they're trying to hide it. >> Okay. >> Um where where are they at right now? You say they get you upstairs. >> How do How do we How do we get upstairs? How do we get in contact with them? That's >> whether she says she's a girlfriend or boyfriend, I don't know if that's like a relationship. >> Okay. But you don't know if the this clay guy is here. Hi. How's it going, man? >> Did you have a Were you in position of of a dog? >> All I know I know I I was watching the dog. >> The owner came and took her. That's the last time I saw the dog. >> Was it a male or female? >> I I think it was a girl. >> Do you know her name? Who took his dog? The lady, >> the lady took the dog back. >> Ryan was here. Ryan saw her come and take the dog. >> Which dog? Which which lady? The one who lives up there? >> The Well, not this lady. The the other one. The woman was homeless. She was sitting over here. >> So, the homeless lady is the the owner. >> Yes. >> And you guys don't don't know her name or anything? I >> I'm not I'm not too sure what I felt bad for her. She was in a really basic stuff all over the ground, you know. >> When was this? Yesterday? >> Day before yesterday. >> Day before yesterday. Okay. >> No, I >> Well, I talked to Brian. He found the dog. >> Who? >> You found the superintendent. >> He found the dog. >> Well, where do you find the dog at? >> I I guess wherever the dog is now. I don't know, honey. I don't know. It was none of my business, quite frankly. No, I know. We He was just saying that you were the last one with the dog. >> While officers were busy gathering information, someone unexpectedly walked into the scene and just like that, the case cracked open, but not in the way anyone saw coming. >> Hello. >> Hi. How's it going? >> Hi. >> Well, all right. Do you know anything about this dog? >> Yeah, I'm the one that caught at 3:00 in the morning uh back in his stench. >> Okay. Uh the female that has a dog, I don't know her last name. I just know her first name. Um but it looks like she left the dog in the car. >> When did she leave the dog in the car? >> At that point, I don't know. Um I know that I told her to get off of the property um as well as everybody else. But then I saw her for the next 2 days or so and the dog was fine. Um, so I want to say about a day or if I understand about a day. >> So whose truck is that? >> That's my ex-boyfriend. He's in Texas. >> No, >> your boyfriend. >> It's my ex. But he's in Texas cuz he died passing away. So >> So now you >> So you're So you're the owner of the truck right now? >> No, it's not mine. It's his. But >> how long you been in Texas for? >> About 2 to 3 weeks now. And I'm supposed to be heading out today. >> So how Yeah. How How' the car How' the dog get in the car? >> She put her in there. >> She has keys. Uh she took uh she took a key that I had here cuz we had to get in here. Um so um I asked her for those keys back, but the car was open. I That's my car. >> And do you know her name at all? >> Sasha. >> Sasha. What does she look like? >> White tall, skinny. Looked like she screamed. >> So she put the dog in the car. >> Yeah, I guess she uh Well, she had told me that she did, but then like a couple days later, she's like, "Oh, I haven't seen my dog. I haven't seen my dog. I haven't seen the dog." But then I started noticing a lot of flies coming out and it's like >> So all that time you didn't know there was a dog in the car? >> I didn't. Then when I opened the door I didn't and it was right there on the floor. So yesterday like I have seizures. I I tried not to um go overboard. So yesterday it took me a while to be able to get the car. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know how to go about it. >> So by yesterday the dog was already >> I don't know. I I I I I have no idea. All I know is that the flies are coming out of the car and it's for this building. >> Uh, do you have a number for this offic? >> No. >> The story was full of malicious holes, but the officers handled business by the book. What came next, though, was a gut-wrenching encounter they wouldn't soon forget. >> It's got a what? >> It's got a deal with that. >> Yeah. Listen, guys. This happens with humans, too. And you're going to deal with this at some point. >> Yeah. >> So, should we just drag the car? >> Sure. >> You were not able to put the seat back, right? >> That's as far as it goes. >> I mean, technically, >> you haven't touched anything yet, right? Do you mind grabbing my watch? >> Take it off. >> Yeah. I don't want to go on. Thank you. >> What about your braces? >> Yeah, we can take them off. >> Yeah. What if we can get a wooden board? >> You guys think that they can throw over them throwing out 21? >> 21. I have no idea. I tried pulling I tried grabbing a paw and then right away something popped inside of it >> and I kind of freaked out really quickly. >> Preserving the evidence >> and and also when I tried to grab it by the collar. >> They said no about the towing cuz at some point they're going to have to get the dog out anyways. So >> So it is what it is. >> You know what you might have to do? You might have to go in there and grab the head and the other side and like pushing it out. >> Pushing it out. Which way? Oh, pushing him off. The thing is his legs are jammed there. >> Yeah, >> dude. If it's piece by piece or if it's a hole, take it out. >> This [ __ ] >> Is your camera on? >> Yes. >> Good. For posterity, >> I'd say grab one side. >> Oh, thanks. >> Oh my god. Oh, it's coming out. >> There you go. You're >> not going to help us. Okay, >> let me grab them. >> There you go. Good job. >> Sorry, puppy. >> Okay, we're going to throw her in there. Ready? Watch out. >> Yeah, there's nothing else to do at this point. >> Good job, Pierce. Hold on. >> I got to take photos. >> What does the name tag say? >> Oh, his eyes are popping out. You guys have to turn it over so you can take a picture of it. >> Yeah. >> Which way? This way. >> You can do that. >> Probably flip it towards the vehicle. >> Hold on. Hold on. Let jump in there, too. Come on. Get in there. Turn it. Turn it over. >> You have to lie next to him for a size comparison. >> Oh, yeah. >> It's not going to bite you. It's >> my first one, guys. Bear with me. >> I got some on me. After recovering the remains of the pup, the officers kept tailing the woman and a few weeks later they tracked her down. But once the questioning started, it was just as awful as the scene they had found. >> Charlie copy of 40. >> Miss Sasha. >> Sasha. >> Sasha. Hi. >> Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you like that. I'm Manny. Hi. A couple things that I wanted to talk to you about reference to your dog. Unfortunately, I'm assuming that you might know what what happened with your dog or he is found deceased and when you ran the tag, it ended up coming back to you. So, I wanted to speak to you about that incident. Everything right now appears that it was incidental. It was an accident. And I was really hoping that I could go ahead and clear out this case and speak with you if you're willing to. >> Yeah. So there's there's a couple un informal things that I have to do which is read read Miranda and things some forms that we have to fill out. It's just I have to do it whenever I talk to somebody. It's a part of our SOP. >> Okay. >> Okay. Would you be willing to speak to me? I'm going to go ahead and get that paperwork and we'll go ahead and talk. Okay. >> All right. I'll be right back with you. >> Can you give me a little insight of what's what's been going on? What happened that week? The week of the 7, I'm sorry, the week of the 21st in regards to your dog. I was just working late night. >> What happened? >> Was working late night. >> You were working late night. >> We're working at >> I didn't That's not my fault. You were working late night >> and um got out of work. Went um I went to Jane's house. I showered. I said, "Jane, y'all, I got to go get my dog." I was in the car. He said, "Okay, not a problem." After I got out of the shower, I sat down. I was getting dressed, fell asleep. I woke up at 2:30 that afternoon. >> The afternoon on what day? >> The same day. >> Which day? The 21st. Okay. >> And I went straight. He took me straight there. I didn't see my dog, but I didn't look in the front toilet at the bottom. >> Yeah. There's a juice. >> Is there is there any um reason that we didn't get called for that to go respond over there? >> I don't. >> Okay. You know, I I've reviewed about 5 days worth of video from the motel that's right next door to the location. 5 days worth of video. So, for the most part, I already have the answers of how the dog ended up in the car, which is why I kind of wanted to talk to you about this. Okay. What happened with the dog? No, I put her in there because I had nowhere to go. >> So, are you currently homeless? >> Okay. So, you put her in, you went to work, >> you came back. >> I went over to my room and I showered >> and then you fell asleep. And about 2:30 in the afternoon, you found the dog. >> No, that's when I woke up. >> Oh, you woke up at 2:30 in the afternoon. So, she had been in there all day. [Music] I know. >> How long have you had the dog, Sasha? >> Since she was 6 months old. She was my She was my kid before my two kids. >> Do you Do you remember what time you put her in the car? You said it was before work, right? >> So, what what time do you normally go to work? [Music] >> Like around 6, maybe 7 6 in the afternoon the day before. >> Yes. After hearing her version of the story, officers followed up with tactical questions, each one peeling back the layers and exposing the truth behind everything that had happened. >> So the the only thing that doesn't make sense is the dates, right? So we responded on the 21st in the morning and found the dog. All right. So is it possible that it could have been a couple days before? cuz I do have on video you responding on the 19th Monday to the car at about >> at about 2:30. >> That's the day. >> Yeah, cuz I do have video of you going to the car. No, no, no. It's okay. >> I know. >> Cuz you you seemed very emotionally distressed when you found her and it was about 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Monday the 19th. And we found her two days later. >> Do do you know who owns the car? >> Yeah. >> Who owns that car? >> Clay. >> Is Mr. Clay out of town? >> Mr. Clay's in Texas taking care of his dad and father. >> Okay. So, that's Mr. Clay's car. >> So, we're thinking just as setting the timelines, right? So, we're looking at the 18th. >> I don't know. I don't know. >> I'm saying you found her the next day, right? So if I see I saw video, >> it's okay, Sasha. It's fine. >> It's fine. >> So on the 19th, I have you on video going over the location and finding the dog at about 2:33. >> Which was very emotional and I could see it on the video. You were extremely emotional. It doesn't look like you meant to do this, right? It was a complete accident. It doesn't matter. I do. All right, Miss Sasher, is there anything else that you'd like to add to the statement? >> In the end, she was charged with aggravated animal cruelty. Some weeks later, more charges followed. Possession of cocaine and resisting arrest without violence. Moving on to a rescue operation that pulled over 100 pets from a nightmare of a home where Salgado and his cousin had been hoarding them in conditions no pet should ever endure. My eyes burn. Not good, bro. >> A lot of cats. >> Can we go in here? >> On April the 15th, 2025, Ogden police and local animal services showed up to Miguel Vargas Saggado's home. took just minutes to realize that they should have been there a long time ago. >> I can say police don't come to the door. >> There's like 40 right here. Aland City Police, if you're inside, make yourself known. We have a search warrant. Stop. What was that? The scene was so pitiful, so inhumane that officers had to pause and rethink their approach before sweeping the area. >> Mask masks. Yes. My eyes burn. >> Not good, bro. >> We have hazmat suits in our trucks. I don't know. >> You You guys might need them more later, but >> you definitely >> Let's Yeah, we're going to get our masks real quick. What's the concern that there's more people? >> More people. >> It's never zero. >> There's a lot. >> Grab your mask. Grab your mask. >> I just want to make it fast and I don't want to go slow. >> It's very strong. >> I put on it. I give it to the dogs. I gave I >> thought you were here. if you have some. >> Uh, we got mask at the PD. >> We'll see what we can do. >> Huh? >> Located. that filter out smells. So >> bad, dude. >> Quick, let's go. Yeah. First one opens. We got several cats back there. >> Is that door open? Yeah, >> no. >> It's clear. Yeah, >> no, not that I saw. >> A lot of cats. >> Can we go in here? >> Hey, look. We already looked. >> Hey, this is good. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Yeah. Go. In the end, Salgado and his cousin Raman Keno Spurro, who knew about the hoarding, were hit with 637 charges, including animal cruelty, unlicensed animals, and public nuisance violations for odor, and non-stop barking. Next up is a case where officers timely intercepted a moving truck packed with over 15 dogs, all crammed into filthy, unlivable conditions. There's a significant amount of feces in here and not a single water ball back here for these dogs. Reality of the situation is that this is extremely unsanitary. Okay, I can see that the seats are saturated with feces. On October the 14th, 2024, at a residence on Alpine Avenue Northwest in Walker, Michigan, officers responded to a report of a vehicle harboring several dogs crammed inside and living in truly inhumane conditions. >> Hi, this is Officer Edgars with Kent County Sheriff's Department Animal Control Division. >> I'm just calling regarding a report of a vehicle with 19 dogs in it. Um, I am at the listed address that you provided and I'm just wondering if the person may have relocated or if you have any additional information on this individual that would help us in her. She was at the auto place behind Walmart. They moved her over under the tarp under Flower Land. Worked on the brakes and when I talked to her personally last night, she was at the dollar store and she wasn't sure where she was going to go find a place to sleep last night. She's driving a red Silverado pickup with a topper on it. She's got the topper tied the hatch to the topper tied down to the frame underneath the vehicle so it can't be open. She's had a bunch of dogs in the cab of the truck with her and it really stinks in there and it's been at least 5 days that he knows of since they've been out to go to the bathroom. Hey, you guys need to you guys need to go. Please. You're going to ruin our whole thing. You're going to ruin exactly what we're here doing. >> Please go inside. >> We have people coming to fix this. >> There's at least 12 in there, >> minimum. And that's I can see. >> Go inside. >> Especially if she can see. >> Yes. >> Thanks. You guys just blew You blew our whole our whole operation. >> They're good. >> You're living in your car right now? >> No. No. No. I'm not living in my No. No. >> These guys got a place to get out and go to the bathroom and everything. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> I'm seeing some feces in there. What are you doing about that? Oh, I clean they must have just did it. I uh got plastic bags and I got uh wipes and a thing and I cleaned it up. Yeah. And how many are in there? >> Huh? How many are in here? >> I have a a couple of them. Yeah. But I don't want to undo that rope. Yeah. To get to my destination. Yeah. >> You have a couple dogs in here. >> Well, couple to me. Yeah. >> How many? How many here? about seven just in here. >> Yeah, I'm going over to my uh friends. >> Who's your friend? >> You're going where where I was stopping over at >> and then um I was heading out. >> Stopping. [Music] >> Okay. And when >> I was just going over there, we were just meeting here then we were going over there. Okay. And where's where's her house? >> What was that? The plan? >> I know. We were meeting for dinner for her birthday. >> Okay. You didn't have plans for her to come with discuss that? I didn't know she was planning on that, honestly. >> To stop over. Yeah. Then I go over to my friend. Uh >> your friend. >> Do you live at your friend? No, I'm just passing through. >> Okay. So, where do you where do you live? >> Uh, I live down. >> Okay. And when did you get up here? >> Um, about a week ago. >> Okay. >> A week and a half ago. Something like that. >> Okay. Okay. And how many dogs in total do you have? Um, I have uh seven and I got the four Pomeranians and the dogs. >> Yeah. >> Hi. >> So, seven dogs just in this. >> Yeah. >> Officers listened carefully, sifting through everything she said, but a closer look revealed a shocking discovery they had not seen coming. >> Four Pomeranians up front. >> Mhm. Okay, I counted I counted more than four up here. >> There's four four Pomeranians in the >> Okay, there was two it looks like puppies in that cage and then this bigger one. >> Yeah. >> So, seven up here, too. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you have um any vaccination paperwork or anything? >> Where's that at? Um I >> you have to be able to provide that to us. >> Yeah, I have it um in the back and then I I just went to the vet and um I have that and then my other friend is got the uh other papers for the other two. >> Okay. >> Is that what you're feeding them right now? >> Yep. Mhm. >> Okay. >> Yep. Yep. And then I got water. I got water in the back, too. >> Just in the back. >> No, I got water up here. And then I feed them the water. >> Where's Where's the water for them? >> I got it on the other side. I just emptied out the other water and I got the other water on the other >> Yeah, there's quite a bit of feces back there. I'm seeing >> that, you know. >> No, I don't see any water either. I don't see any >> water on the other side over there. >> Ma'am, we there's not any water accessible to these dogs. There's a significant amount of feces in here and not a single water ball back here for these dogs. >> Mhm. I usually I take it out. I usually use the uh can my friend and I >> Okay. uh earlier, you know, I give them water and then they drink as it spills all over the place. >> Okay. And like I said, they have to have access to water 24 hours a day for it to be lawful. Okay. And they do not have access to water right now. I don't see any of them wearing any licensing tags. Are they licensed? >> Yeah. >> Do you have the paperwork to prove? >> I have it in my green bag and I had it on my phone. >> Can I see it? I can pull it up. Yep. >> For each dog. >> Yeah. >> This is unbelievable. That smell. >> There's nothing in there. >> No. We got to We got to take these dogs. >> Okay. >> You understand why we're worried? >> I always feed and water my dogs. Always carry water in with me. >> Do you understand why we're worried though? >> Yeah. Because they always need water and food. >> Yeah. And and this is not appropriate living conditions for an animal. >> No, we're not I'm not living. I'm just, you know, transport. Yeah. >> So, these dogs have been living in here for about 5 days. >> No, they haven't. >> When was the last time you cleaned out your truck and got the poop out of there? >> Um, this morning. >> That's, you know, that's a lot of feces for a day. Your dog's leg is stuck here. It's pinned between the >> Why did you do that? There's there's not a lot of room in there. >> I don't know if you did that. >> Let me get a >> The reality of the situation is that this is extremely unsanitary. Okay. I can see that the seats are saturated with feces. There's feces packed down throughout your vehicle. I can tell that their feet are covered in feces. >> There shouldn't be. >> Yeah, there is. There is all throughout. Ma'am, I I saw it with my own eyes. There's feces all throughout your vehicle. Okay. Th this is concerning. Okay. I understand if you don't view it that way. >> Oh, no. I don't like that feces all over. I I pick it up and I and I clean it and >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, when we're looking at the law, um it it is against the law for your animals to be kept in this type of situation. >> At this point, the picture was already clear to officers. This wasn't just neglect. It was something uglier. But the deeper they went, the worse it got. And every step forward uncovered another layer of misery. >> Okay. Whether this is just for the hours throughout the daytime and at night they go running around, it's still unsanitary and it's still against the law. They don't have any access to water at this time. They they don't appear to be well exercised. We're going to be taking the dogs. >> No. No, >> ma'am. >> No, that's not what he said. >> Ma'am, I just spoke with him. No, we're we're not gonna play this game. Okay. >> I I don't want to play this game. That's what >> These dogs need to be checked out by our vet. >> They need to get out of this environment. They're going to start getting respiratory illness. >> Yeah. I don't know. >> So, we need to take these dogs. >> No, don't do that to me, please. >> It's the best thing for the dogs. >> No, >> it's not permanent. >> Yeah, it's not. They just got to go down there and be checked out, confirm everything's okay because it's it's unsanitary the way they're living. >> Yeah. No. No. Ma'am, I have seen dogs die from living in these conditions. >> I No, I don't want them to live in these conditions. Oh, I'm good. But >> but we're going to take the dogs. So, we're not calling any more people. We're not doing any more names. We're taking these dogs. We're going to start loading them up into our vehicle. If you want to sit in your friend's vehicle while we do this, I just like you to be out of the way while we're doing this. Why don't you go get your dinner out of there? I think >> it's broken. So, >> close that. Close that. >> As closed as it gets, >> pretty lady. Get back. >> How many did she send? >> Seven back there. You can try. >> We should be using these, Andrew. >> Hi, babes. >> Yeah, those ones are in in um >> Oh, there's one. Oh my god, there's more on the floor. That we do not want to take that crate. >> That little I'm thinking we get them out of here. >> Here. >> Less that little first and then >> I'll I'll take that little lighter. No, I'm charging here. I'm standing up. This is ridiculous. >> Good job. Come on. >> No. Stay. Get back. No. Here. Can you grab that? Okay. >> I don't know where the blood's coming from. >> I do. >> I bet I bet one of them is in heat. >> Yeah. Put them in without N there. We can get the leash after the fact, but So, we got four in here. >> Yep. >> We got three up here. >> They're all hoarding. >> Okay. So, let's get a leash on the one. >> I got one coming out. >> I got help. >> You got Give them more space. Yeah. Okay. Get the snare. No, Andrew, get the snare. Can you close that? Where did it go? [ __ ] Oh, it's eating trash. >> Close it. Close it. Close it. >> My jacket's in there. >> Doesn't matter. Oh, roll up your windows. >> After the rescue officers began assessing the scene and documenting what they could, but the more they looked, the clearer it became. This wasn't a one-time slip up. but was part of a disturbing pattern >> here. >> All right, >> I got to get some photos. Hi. >> Here's these. >> Can I get a good phone number for you so I can be in touch with you? Probably tomorrow. Okay. >> Okay. >> I know one thing. I'm not I don't want to use that dog food more. >> It goes straight through them. >> Yeah. You know, >> sometimes that just happens. >> Yeah. I The diamond they do better, you know. >> That's pretty good food, too. >> Yeah. I paid $40 a bag for it. When can I come pick them back up? I have some other uh >> people that can come help. >> We'll be in touch with dad. Okay. So, I got to talk with the shelter and make sure that they're all looking good. >> At the time of this video, updates on their charges had not yet been made public. While that was a close call, it pales in comparison to this case where a dog was abandoned inside a burning vehicle. >> Oh my god. >> Where's it at? Come on, buddy. I kick in. Come on. Come on. >> On January the 22nd, 2022, police officers were alerted to a crazy incident of a burning car. But the insane twist was that a dog was trapped inside. When the officers arrived at the scene, this happened next. [Music] Wait, there's a dog in the car. >> Dog in the car. In the car. >> Oh my god. >> Where's it at? Put it in the back. Right here. Right here. >> Yeah. Hank, come on, man. Hank, is it unlocked? [Applause] >> It's so locked. It's right here. Come on. Hey, come on. Come on, buddy. I can't. Come on. Come on. Here. Oh, god. Come on. Oh my god. Oh yeah. >> Dog's out. Nothing else. >> In the end, a veterinarian in the area checked the dog and ensured he was fine. Next, we look at a truly pathetic case. a woman who threw her dog off of a motel balcony. >> You need to stop fighting or I'm going to tase you. >> You can't kill dogs. >> On December the 14th, 2020, Daytona police and deputies responded to the scene where a woman named Allison Murphy was threatening to jump off the balcony. When police arrived, it was already a chaotic scene. Where is she at? >> Where she at? That one. >> We got a um female. I guess she's threatening to jump over the rail. She's right here in this room. >> Yeah, if you guys can just hang out here. >> All right. Appreciate it, man. Things took a different turn when Allison hesitated to open the door for the officer, but instead did something extremely stupid. >> Sheriff's office. >> Sheriff's office. Ask him if he has a teeth. hotel room. Remember that scenario? >> Hey, >> what are you? >> Stop fighting or I'm going to tase you. >> You can't kill dogs. I know. I think you can help. >> After throwing the dog over the balcony, Allison then began to resist and fight the police officers who were trying to detain her at this point. However, things did not end well for her. >> We got our arms. We got arms. We got our arms. We got our arms. >> I'm not scared. >> Make sure no one else is in here. >> You know about that? >> Yeah. All right. Well, I know where she's going now. >> What the >> Is that dog okay? >> Yeah. Took off running. I tried to grab it. >> All right. Well, >> let's get her away from this wall. >> Is the rest of the room clear? >> Yeah. I get her up. >> Come on. Turn over. There it is. >> There. There we go. >> Now we're making strides. >> She comes running out with the dog was loose. She grabs a hold of it. >> Uhhuh. >> And we all thought that she was just going to grab the dog and probably bring him back inside. She right over the railing. >> Just threw him over the rail. In the end, Allison was arrested for felony charges of animal cruelty, and the Valucia County Animal Services took custody of the dog.
