I'm just telling y'all to get over there. I'm not >> And we're just asking you to go get it. >> Okay, and I'm telling you it's over there. >> So, you're refusing to go get it? >> I'm not giving you anything. I'm not giving you whatever you trying to charge me with. >> You don't live here. >> Yes, I do. >> This house is vacant. >> I've lived here since June. >> Oh, can we come in? >> No, you cannot come in my house. >> Okay. Is there going to be else inside? >> No, there's nobody in this house right now. And I'm not in a very good mood. >> Okay. >> Squatters can become surprisingly confident when they think they found a home that they can claim as their own. What happens when no-nonsense cops show [music] up to remind them that entitlement doesn't make a property theirs? >> Who is that? >> Hello. >> Who is that? >> This is my husband. >> Okay, but you told me it was the rental person. >> Because he's he knows the guy. >> Okay, but you >> He knows cuz he met him. I'm not lying. Y'all are >> I can't go back to county. I can't go back to county. I did not know that they were trespassing. Like, I I live in Cleveland. I don't need to be here. I can leave right now. >> Here are some of the wildest times no-nonsense cops instantly shut down dumb squatters. The people are trusted with access to someone else's home. Some mistake that trust for permission to claim the place as their own. Such was Liberty's case after her friend entrusted her with a key. >> You're not in control here, okay? >> You are >> illegally, okay? You are here illegally. You're refusing to give me the key, you're going to go to jail. >> It's over there. >> Go get it. >> It's over there. You was just over there though. >> On August the 8th, 2025, officers were called to a home after the owner reported that a woman she had given a key to while on vacation had used it to enter the property and begin living there without permission. When the cops got to the house, they likely thought that they would be dealing with a simple and straightforward case. But, the woman who was later identified as Liberty was about to make that expectation a much more distant thought. >> Ma'am, it's police department. Ma'am, can you hear me? >> Uh yeah, I'm here on the camera. This is the owner. >> Okay. >> Uh is there a white car there? >> Uh white Volkswagen, yes. No one's answering the door. >> Yeah, that's their car though. >> Okay. Hey, can you call me and give me a little info about what's going on here? >> Okay. >> Hey, is this Ms. Nelson? >> Yes. >> Hey, this is Officer Johnson. >> Oh, Mr. Johnson. Uh yeah, that that person who's uh in there is um not supposed to be there. She's trespassing. >> So, well, give me some backstory and what's what's the what's the issue? How Why is she here and who is she and I understand she's a friend or something, but >> Yeah. Yeah, so she was supposed to been uh gave back my key. >> So, she used to live here? >> No, she doesn't live there at all. I left on Monday and um I left my key with her so she could return it. >> Okay. >> Um but she never returned it. >> So, she doesn't live here. Why is she here now? >> That that's what I'm saying. That's why I'm calling for trespassing. >> Okay. Who drives the >> black Infiniti SUV? >> I don't know that. That's that's the owner of the house. >> Are they here too or no? >> No. No, yeah, that car is not there. >> So, the only person here is supposed to be Liberty. Or the only person here is Liberty. >> Yeah. >> And she's not supposed to be staying here. She's just supposed to return your key. >> Right. Right. >> Okay. >> But I've been away I've been away I've been looking at my camera and she's been in and out and and no, that can't happen. >> Okay. So, you're just wanting the key back and you want her gone. >> Yeah. Get her stuff and the key. >> She doesn't have any rights here. >> No, at all. >> And she's never lived here, she doesn't have any property here or anything like that. >> No. >> All right. Let me see if I can get her to answer the door. I've knocked and nobody's answering, so. >> Yeah, she's she's texting me now, so I don't know why why she's not coming. >> Tell her to come outside and talk to me. Liberty, it's the police department. Come out here and talk to me. Huh? I didn't call it out. I just put it in my computer. Yo, Liberty, come out here and talk to me. Hey, she's not answering her phone. Um where where are you at? Is there any way you can come here and we can open this door or >> Yeah, the uh the extra key is um is actually in Perry. I have my mother on the way over there, though. >> Okay. Does she have a spare key by chance? >> No. Yeah, so I'm going to try to call Libby right now. >> Yeah, just I mean, tell her if she's inside to come out. We She's not in trouble. We just got to get the key and get her going. >> Yeah. >> All right. Let me know. All right. >> Liberty eventually stepped out of the house, but it appeared her sense of reasoning had decided to stay behind, and her behavior did a beautiful job of proving it. >> Oh, you want your stuff back? You're Liberty, we know. We've been knocking. So, Miss Nelson called. She says she doesn't have uh rights to this property, and you've been coming here all weekend. So, she wants her key, and she wants you trespassed. You have the key? >> This where it's in the house. >> It's in the house? >> Right. >> Well, we need to go get it. What you pointing that way for? >> It's over there. >> Come on. Take me over there. >> I'm not going to get nothing. >> Huh? >> You can close my door, sir. I have the right to >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Ma'am, you don't understand. You're not in control here, okay? You're here illegally, okay? You are here illegally. If you give me the key, >> It's over there. >> identify yourself, you're free to leave. If you're refusing to give me the key, you're going to go to jail. >> It's over there. >> Go get it. >> It's over there. You was just over there though. I didn't say I was going anywhere, did I? Do I? >> Do not make this worse than it has to be. Do you understand? >> No, the key is over there. >> Then go get it. >> I Okay. It's fine. All my problems will be gone anyways. >> Huh? >> All my problems will be gone anyways. I'm just telling y'all the key is over there. I'm not >> And we're just asking you to go get it. >> Okay, and I'm not saying it's over there. >> So you're refusing to go get it. You're refusing to give it up. >> Whatever you trying to charge me with. >> That's absolutely right. It's that simple. >> Hello. >> Hey, we're here with her. She's playing hard headed. Are you What are you wanting to do? She's saying the key is somewhere in the house, but I mean >> She don't know. She needs to find the key. >> You're not here to give us authority to go in the house and We can't verify anything, so Are you the Are you the owner of this house? You the renter or what? >> Yeah, I am. I inherited the house. >> You inherited the house. >> No, she's not going to Did you tell us she's not going to jail? >> Well, I mean, if she don't give the key up and you want her to go to jail, she's going to go to jail. Unless you think she left it in the house and >> She's cute. >> Yeah, she's pointing over there somewhere and I told her to go get it and she's refusing. So you tell me what you want me to do. >> Why is she refusing to give it up? >> I have no idea. I just met her. I I don't know. >> She just said she gave y'all the key. >> She isn't giving us anything. I'm standing here with her watching the other officer. She's not giving us a key. >> The [ __ ] >> She's texting you that she just gave us the key? Okay, we're standing here watching her. She's not give us the key. She's sitting in her car, so. >> She went out the back door. >> No, she's right here. She came out the front door. >> Yeah, she had the key last night, so >> Yeah, she came out of the house. We saw her come out of the house, so. >> Yeah, I seen her go in on the What do you want us to do? It's on the chair by the door. She said it's on the chair by the door. Okay, are you good with that? I I need verification that it's there. Well, we asking her to go get it and she's refusing, so if it's not there, what do you want us to do? >> Take me to jail. Is that what going on? >> Ma'am, you're not free to leave. >> Am I leaving? >> You're not free >> Am I leaving? >> Put your car in park, ma'am. >> Am I leaving? >> Don't keep touching your turn your car, ma'am. >> Am I leaving? >> Put your car in park. >> Please don't uh do that. >> Right now you're under arrest. Put your car in park. Put your car in park, ma'am. Come on. You're under arrest. Don't put the Don't move that car, ma'am. >> Am I going to go anywhere? The The police got the >> Oh my god. Ma'am, put your car in park. >> his key. >> Ma'am, put your car in park. Put your car in park. There's an orange key here. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's it. >> Okay, are you satisfied? >> Yeah, I'm satisfied. Could you uh make sure that the uh there's no vandalism in the house? >> I mean, how could I tell? The windows are busted. >> Yeah, yeah, I know. >> So >> Yeah, I have all >> All right, you want her You want her trespassed from here? >> Uh that'll that'll be uh >> I'm saying what What I do is tell her if she comes back here, she could go to jail and I will write up a report. >> Yeah. Yeah, do that. >> If squatters were really as smart as they believed themselves to be, they'd know when to stop and think rationally, especially with the cops already involved. Liberty, on the other hand, seemed intent on choosing every possible route but the sensible one. >> And then uh the crisis is with my mother. She's on the way right now to go and get the key. >> Okay, sounds good. Hey, she's under arrest now, man. Put your car in park, ma'am. Put your car in park, ma'am. >> You got your key? >> Put your car in park. You know you're under arrest now. You're not leaving in that car. You going to You going to get your car and put it in park. >> I did not hit you with my car. >> Yes, you did. Put your car in park. >> Ma'am, put your car in park. >> Put your car in park now. >> You're reaching all in my vehicle. >> Put your car in park, ma'am. >> Give me 1 sec. Do not snatch stuff out my hand. Can you stop? >> Get out. Get out of the car. >> Stop! What the [ __ ] going on? >> Get out the car. >> Sir. >> Get out the car, ma'am. >> You're breaking my >> Get out the car. Get out of the car. GET OUT. >> OW! >> [screaming] >> OW! GET UP. >> I AM GETTING UP. >> GET YOUR FEET. >> I don't even have on no shoes. I'm not getting up without my shoes. >> old to be acting like this, ma'am. >> Um I don't have no >> Ma'am, you can either get up and walk to this car or we're going to drag you to it. >> Act like a real little girl. >> Ma'am, get up. >> Get up, MA'AM. >> OW! >> GET UP. >> OW! >> SIT DOWN OR HE'S going over there to snatch you. >> Um can I fix my gloves? Can I fix my gloves? >> Have a seat. >> Can I fix my gloves? >> Have a seat. Jesus Christ almighty. I'll get her car car towed. She's not She's out of town, so. Her mom's on the way, so. >> Her mom? >> No, the owner's mom. She gave her this key to give back to her mom this week. >> She was never told >> Cuz she was leaving to go out of town. Never given permission. She was only given this to give back to mom. And then she started using this all weekend coming and going. So, owner's out of town, sees it on the camera, calls us and say, "Hey, she's in there. I want her gone." Like she doesn't live there, she doesn't own any property there. The house is beat to crap. I don't think anybody actually lives in there. >> You been inside? >> I didn't go in and look around, but the windows are busted here. They're boarded up down there on that side. The back windows are all boarded up. Um she said, "So, if she's willing to give up the key, then just trespass her. Uh if she's not, then yeah, I'll press charges." And that's when you were actually hit me with the car, so You ready to go to jail today? >> [sighs] >> What are you talking about? >> Damn. >> How could she roll the window up on my arm actually? >> Yeah. >> Told her to stop. >> Just made it worse and worse. Hey, your vehicle's being towed. We should let you know before you get to the jail who the tow company will be. >> Why are you taking me to jail? >> All right. I'm going to give you the key, right? Your daughter's on the phone. I'm going to give her the run down on what just happened, so >> Okay. >> Um yeah, so we were talking to her as I walked over to get the key. Uh she backed up and hit an officer with her car, so we had to actually drag her out of her car, and now she's on the way to jail. I am going to tow this vehicle. Are you wanting her charged with trespassing? >> No, you don't have to charge her with trespassing. >> Okay. All right, yeah, she's yeah, she's facing bigger girl charges now, so >> Wow. >> Um Okay, can you uh do you have your ID on you? >> Me? >> No, no. >> Oh, okay. >> Ms. Nelson. >> Yeah. >> Hey, can you send me a picture of your ID card? >> Yeah. >> That'll be the easiest way to get your information, so >> What is it for? >> [snorts] >> What is it for? >> For the report, for the reason you called us. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. Yeah, I do have um a new one coming in the mail, but it does have my This one does have my information on it. >> Okay, yeah, that's that's fine. Yeah. This is the easiest way is send me a warning deal number on it and all that, so. >> After going over a few things with the homeowner, the officers transported Liberty somewhere that would make her name sound almost like a cruel joke. And even then, she still found a way to make a mockery of herself. >> How did she end up with the key? You gave it to her to give to mom? >> Yeah. Yeah, I gave I was there with her on Monday. I just got back from out of town. And when I left Monday, I told her to leave Monday >> Yeah. >> and give her the key on Monday. All this is in the text messages to give give my grandmother her key when she get the chance. And she just never left. I've been [laughter] looking at the camera. I'm like, damn. >> Right. >> And then I seen her today 4:00 in the morning coming in and out and had another stranger in there, so I'm just like, oh yeah, it's time to go. >> Okay. All right, sounds good. Well, yeah, send me a picture of your ID and uh we'll get it taken care of. Unless you're okay with her vehicle being here on the property. I mean, I'm going to have to tow it. >> No. No, you can leave the vehicle there. >> I wouldn't do that. Have you talked to your dad? >> No. Actually, I'm trying to keep this away from him. That's why I had to have everything >> So, yeah, she need to get her car towed. >> Okay. >> Cuz that's going to be his first question. Whose car is this? >> Okay, I'm I'm staying in the right now office. >> Okay, perfect. >> All right. >> All right, I will I'll hit you back if I need something else, okay? >> Yeah, cuz do you know that I have a I have a new number, a new license number? That's what I was trying to say. >> Just if you'll send me the one you have, I can pull the new one off of the one you have. >> Okay. Okay, good. >> All right. >> All right. >> Bye-bye. All right, ma'am. Y'all guess you heard everything. >> Yes. >> So. >> Thank you so much for everything cuz I was like, "Oh my god." >> That's the key there. I haven't been inside to see if anything's damaged. >> Yeah. >> Cuz I wouldn't know, but Looks like the windows and stuff's kind of busted out already. >> has that Well, he has damage from his son damaging the house, unfortunately. >> All right. Um, do you have your ID on you? >> Yes, I do. >> I just need a document saying I gave you the key. >> Okay. All right. >> I'll call you if I need anything. >> Okay, thank you. >> Stop. Like, really That's act- This is actually insane. This is actually so insane, y'all. Excuse me, what are you trying I mean, what are you charging me with? >> Charging you with resisting. >> Okay, cool. Am I Am I vehicle exempt or what? Wow. I told you Y'all are just some nasty You said what? I'll be out today? I know. Thank you. Y'all got my phone, y'all got my car, y'all left my windows down. Y'all just don't give a Don't be trying to charge me with nothing else cuz it said on your camera and make sure I get this damn car number too that you only charged me with is just the officer. >> In the end, Liberty was charged with three counts of resisting an officer without violence. A convincing excuse can sometimes make squatting look a lot more legitimate than it really is, at least until the cops start asking questions. [music] That was the situation Felicia Ann Pearson found herself in after settling into a house that was put up for sale. >> I'm not saying anything. I don't know what $100 >> So, they saying that y'all got them for stealing these things. But, they >> things mine. >> Where Listen to me. Where is your ID? >> You want to talk to the landlord? >> I'm talking to you. I don't know who that is on that other line. >> get in my truck. >> On September the 27th, 2022, officers were dispatched to a home that was supposed to be listed for sale. So, naturally, it was expected to be empty. But, somehow, this particular house didn't seem to be following the script. >> Are Do you live here? >> No, I'm the homeowner. >> Okay. >> What's the price of the bricks in it? I said the outlets because Sunday I had the locks changed for locks. >> You changed the locks? >> We were going to. All right. >> Who are these people that are in there? >> to the side door, and I could hear people talking. >> Who's supposed to be in there? >> Nobody. It's supposed to be empty. >> Okay. Stay here. Hold on, my brother. Hold on. Do you know their names? Do you know their names? >> The cops proceeded to speak to the false occupants who strongly believed that they had everything covered. But, the loopholes were already beginning to surface, and the officers were about to uncover more than just inconsistencies. >> Hello, Sumter County Sheriff. Come on out. You want to go around back? Hold on. They got it locked. Sheriff's office. Sheriff's office. Sheriff's office. Where's your other daughter? Step out here with you guys. >> Why? You want me to step out? >> Yeah, come on here. >> Come on, come on. >> Step right over here with your baby girl over here. >> And my baby girl. >> She's here. Do you have an ID on you? Nobody else inside? Nobody else inside? >> This her right here? >> Yeah. >> Come on out. >> The baby girl. >> If you have a 612. Like 7 market or 1012 for a What do you know? We gave you the opportunity to to come to the front door when we asked you to. >> Yes, but we told >> We said you chose not to. >> And I said come to the side door, please. >> Okay. None of us None of us heard that. All right, can >> Can you show me 1012? >> So, what's going on? >> Here are my keys. >> Okay, I don't know. Baby girl says they're saying they have a uh Alicia Granados. So, this is what I have in my hand. >> I have I have receipts from cable. I have my lawn service crew to come. >> Mhm. >> We've been here 2 and 1/2 months, 3 months. And I paid another monthly on September 1st on October 1st. And I don't understand like >> What are you paying for rent? >> We um me once my sister and my cousin we all took to jail. We all paid six and my nephew Brandon. You know what I'm saying? >> We took your nephew to jail? >> No, it's four of us. My sister Rashana, her friend Anne, Lacy, and my nephew Brandon, and me. You know what I'm saying? Everybody got to come up with $10. So, they're saying that y'all got them for stealing these things, but everything is mine. We bought everything. We bought everything there. It was It was completely without When he gave me the keys, >> Who is he? >> This is the Korean of Five Star Realty in California. Whatever. I met him through I was doing day work. So, my friend girl said she wanted to buy us half a house cuz I told him my house is a little bit a little too small. So, I'm going to renovate that house because it was triple wide. You know what I'm saying? So, that's what we got this for um a year. But, >> You know, her claiming they have a rental agreement they have a lease agreement. >> Who's the people up front? >> That's the realtor for this house. That this house is for sale. There is The problem is she's claiming she's been here for 2 and 1/2 months. 2 and 1/2 months. I need to talk to the I need to go talk to the renter. But, she says she's only paying 600 bucks. There's three of them and they're only paying $600 a month for this. Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me. Yeah, there's not enough in here to say that they've been I mean, there's nothing here. There's what? A single bed in each room? There's a problem. What are you missing? I have them on the table. >> What? >> Um this is on plain view. Baggy of powder Um >> Oh, [ __ ] Yep, sure enough. >> There's That I That's the first thing I saw over there. The pipe I could be wrong about it, but inside this $5 bill up here looks like it's nothing. Okay. So, I just go out there and ask who lives in the back right bedroom. >> Yeah, just so we establish okay, where do you sleep at night? >> Yep. Okay. >> The cops began questioning them properly. Alicia was the only one willing to speak. What she had to say might have sounded convincing to her, but ironically, it was only going to tighten the trap that she didn't know she was already in. >> So, yeah, I'll get to this. Let's start off with which room do you sleep in, ma'am? Or what's your name? >> My name is Alicia Pearson. >> Alicia? Okay, Alicia. You want me to call you Alicia or Miss Pearson, which one? >> Miss That's not important. >> Okay. All right, Miss Pearson. So, which room do you reside in? >> Well, I'm been on the sofa in the uh my girls in the rooms. >> Okay. Which room do you res- So, what is your name, ma'am? Alicia, which room do you reside in? You don't reside here? Okay. Do you reside here in one of the rooms? Do you reside here in one of the rooms? >> Lacy they're in jail Lacy and it was Rashana. >> Okay. >> Yeah, y'all took them to jail the um Sunday. >> Okay. >> And Brandon. >> So, Kareem? >> We confirm you got the rental agreement? >> Yeah, I'm going through it right now. >> Zack, um go confirm with >> the rental agency >> the agency with who she has. >> Okay. Yeah, let me do that. Um so, how did you hear about this listing available for lease here? Explain to me exactly how you got >> Okay, so um my house in Mary County >> Mhm. >> It's a It's a mobile home and I had to redo the floors was caving in. I had holes on the porch and everything. >> Mhm. >> So, I'm renovating that. So, my friend girl who works in the Villages at the um nursing home can't um Carol Chisholm? >> Okay. >> Yes, she said he had she had a um friend who was renting renting out a house with a um in a nice quiet area, with the pool. And, um, we had to do 7,000 down. >> Mhm. [clears throat] >> But, he started us, since it was the four of us. Okay? We met here, he gave me the keys. >> How did we get $7,000 down? >> Um, >> How was that calculated? >> Because he says the lights is going to be on already. And the water. >> Did he show you any credentials? Did he have anything of that nature? Did he have any licenses? >> Um, >> Cuz here's what I'll explain to you. All right. I I've been through the rental process. All right, I've been through the home purchasing process. I can tell you right now, unless I see some >> I understand that, but unless I see some type of license or some sort of business backing, where it's your name on a card with your Cuz he's still going to be considered a realtor, right? Even he's a licensing agent. >> Landlord. >> Right. So, he's going to have some sort of license number. Did you ask to inquire about a license number, or you just were like, "Okay, it's a nice house." >> Well, he walked us around, you know, showed us, um, he had some cards or whatever. I don't know where they at. But, yeah, he look he was dressed nice. >> Mhm. >> Had a nice car. >> Mhm. >> He was professional. >> Mhm. >> Like, there was no reason for me to think anything. >> Mhm. >> He walked me around, he showed me. He didn't ever say like y'all were I don't know. >> You never saw any paperwork on the house prior to, right? >> Um, no, I'm not really from this town. I'm from Marion County. >> Mhm. >> And, um, my daughter works at Cambridge. >> Mhm. >> Behind Walmart or whatever. And she was talking to her friend girl, and she said her friend girl >> Oh, you're back from being leaned up on that. >> I got you. >> She said her friend girl knows a guy. >> Yeah. >> He's um a realtor or a landlord. He has a property for um for rent. >> Mhm. >> Whatever. He said he could I see it and whatever and things like that. What's up, baby? So yep, we made arrangements. We met out here to the property. The grass is over over >> I was waiting a minute. I was sorry. Jail possibly. >> We were going to go over there. That's the only way we could get in. >> What they call this? What you doing? What was it? False Yeah, cuz I don't see this is all This is in different handwritings. The business on here doesn't exist. The location Location of this office. Yeah. >> Well, we met him here. We never had to meet at the office. >> Never got a licensing number from the guy. >> Who did you meet? >> What is a licensing number? >> Who did you meet? Start with that. >> over >> There are times when cops will patiently hear you out, but there are also times when the no-nonsense side takes over. Felicia and her accomplices were about to give them every reason to choose the latter. >> Excuse Lacy and Rashana was we were all here. But it was just a >> Who's Brandon Lockhart? >> He's the one in the um he has the woman on the side, but so got the bathroom. >> Down the hallway to the right? >> The first one on the Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then Lacy, she has the one in the far back with the little baby. And then >> Okay. >> Yeah, and then Rashana has the um Well, she's in the Well, they all >> Is Rashana? >> Yeah, she's a deputy. And they all use the one bathroom cuz one was leaking. So we had um waiting on them to just come and repair the toilet and things like that. So I don't And they said they came up here the other day. >> So what's your name? Let's start with that. >> Lisa. >> Okay, I just got up here. I don't know who you are. >> Trevor. >> Yep. So they came up here and I um >> Lisa what? >> Pearson. P I E R S O N. >> Lisa? >> Yes. >> I don't see a Lisa actually. Hello. >> Felicia. >> But they it's Lisa. >> So your real name is Felicia? >> Hello. >> What did she give you? >> She gave me Lisa. Um I don't know what it is. They said that um >> Where's your ID? >> It says Trump. My ID? >> Yeah. >> 999999 >> Where Listen to me. Where is your ID? >> You want to talk to the landlord? >> I'm talking to you. I don't know who that is on the other line. >> You might You might try her. >> Where's your truck? >> In the garage. >> Okay. >> I have no idea who you're talking to. Who are you Who are you talking to? Let's Let's start with that. Ma'am, who are you talking to? >> Yes. >> Who are you talking to? >> Go ahead and cuff. >> You just told me it was a >> It's going to be the black Toyota utility. >> You just told me it was a >> That's 10-4. Y'all are Y'all are like making fun of me and stuff Yes, y'all are and y'all coming up over me and stuff like that. This is very >> No one's hovering over you, ma'am. >> Sir, this is scary like >> Okay, well you can be scared all you want. Just like >> I'm so scared. Like I don't know. >> Go ahead because you don't have no right to be here. >> 123126 >> And I don't know who the hell you are. >> I'm Felicia Ann Pearson. >> Okay, well that's not the name that you gave my deputy and that's not the name that you gave me initially. And now you can tell me that you're on the phone with the with the rental person and then you say it's your husband. >> Sir, we just moved here like 2 months ago. We paid our money, they gave us the key and everything. I don't understand like you can try to keep >> are these young ladies? How old are you? 27? Do you get Does anybody have any hard idea on this? Anybody have a driver's license, Florida ID card, out of state ID card, anything like that? >> We just can't >> Guys, it's it's it's it's a yes or no. Cuz if you want to play this game, I'll lock all of you up and charge you with burglary. How about that? >> It's getting nasty. >> we'll charge you with all the Come inside. >> It's getting nasty. >> to play this game with me cuz I'm the wrong one, I promise you. Thank you. >> All of our stuff is inside. >> Thank you. Why do we have to escalate to that tone? >> Because I already nodded my head. >> Okay, well, I asked for yes or no. I'm not I'm not talking to you in head nods. I'm talking to you with with English. I respect to say respect. You can all go as you want cuz I promise you, you got the wrong one. >> They keep saying they're going to let me burglarize it like you all we've been doing this hard work. Like how can you burglarize something that you paying for? That's weird. Like I don't have other properties like you know It's like I'm not like I'm a child or something. It's weird. I'm a victim. We weren't in Take your stuff and then leave. They were like I don't need to breathe. Every time they don't know the man, they don't know the agency. How do I know the license number? I don't know all this stuff. All I know is the man spoke and he gave us the key. >> Not yet. >> No. >> No. Give traffic. >> All this long time we've been here like >> Give traffic. >> Within moments, things got much worse for Felicia. From the house she had no business staying in suddenly became one of her many problems. >> Put the dog in her lap. Put the dog in her lap. Now. Stand up. >> What did I do? >> Stand up. >> What did I do? >> Hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. Don't resist. Do not resist. Do not resist. Record it. You've got a warrant for your arrest. >> For what? >> We'll get to that. Now you're going to catch another charge for resisting. >> I'm not resisting, sir. >> Come. >> I'm not resisting anything. >> 220 and clear 10-45 sent for confirmation. Sit here. You've got a warrant for your arrest, ma'am. Grand theft. Now you're going to sit here away from everybody. Now. That ma'am, that is not up for me to decide, okay? Don't let her in the house. Okay. All right. That's between you and Marion County. That's not between you and you. Yep. Okay. Your name is Felicia, correct? And that's why you gave us the name Lisa instead of Felicia. Ma'am, that's that has nothing to do with me and that has everything to do with you and Marion County, okay? Marion County tells me you have a warrant. Judge That's cuz a judge signed off on your warrant, okay? And it really don't look good. You got a charge for grand theft. You got a bond of I think what, seven? Grand theft and we're sort of doing the same stuff here. That is Sierra 50. It's going to be 48 out of Marion. Grand theft. And false name. So, if you want, I can just rack that. So, Mhm. Yes, ma'am. When you know your real name is Felicia and you give us Lisa I understand that but when when law enforcement asks for your name we don't ask for a nickname. We ask for your full legal name, right? Do what? You get Yes, ma'am. Absolutely we will for the safety of us to make sure we get home safe. And if everybody complies look as soon as everybody complied and the house was clear the firearms were back in their holsters. Have they been out since? Yes, ma'am. What's aggressive? Unfortunately we do have to be aggressive for our safety but your safety was never at risk. Never. Not once. It was I'm sorry you feel that way, okay? Yes, ma'am. I I out of Marion County? I just know what dispatch tells me and we're going to send for confirmation so technically you're not even placed under arrest right now. I I can't answer that question, ma'am. Only you Only you can answer that question in Marion County. Okay? Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay, you want me to load this one in the back of the car for the time being? Okay. Uh I did. I sent for confirmation but I can cancel it. 222 Sumpter. E66 confirmation we're going to have locals. All right, man. Go ahead and stand up for me. I don't want you to fall. Got it? All right, right over here. Yes, sir. What? What's hurting? Okay, yeah. I'll fix that. I got you. I'll fix that. Straight ahead. Nope, straight ahead. All right. Face my patrol car, take a step back. And then not that far back. And then just lean into the car. Just lean in. There you go. Do you have anything in your bra? Please don't >> wear bras. I don't have no keys. >> Okay. Okay. >> [clears throat] >> You got anything in your pants? Anything that if it's entered introduced into the jail it'd be a charge? >> But I need I need >> Let me get the AC going. Hold on. They'll get you some Vaseline. Don't worry. >> 125 show me 10-7. >> It ain't a fashion show. It is not a fashion show. I got the AC going for you, all right? >> In the end Felicia was charged with trespassing and theft of property. Pretending to have paid rent doesn't exactly turn a squatter into a tenant, although these five individuals seem to think otherwise when they claimed to have been paying rent for a home they had no right to occupy. >> Do you have a lease? >> No, I don't have a lease. >> So how do you live here if you don't have a lease? >> I've been renting upstairs back. No one's ever seen me or said anything about me having to get out. >> On February the 10th, 2025, officers were called to investigate a squatter reportedly living inside a home that was supposed to be empty. When an officer arrived at the house, the manager wasted no time filling him in on what was happening. And from that moment it became increasingly obvious that the squatter wasn't exactly headed for a favorable outcome. >> So what's going on with the house? >> I just represent the property manager. The property's in foreclosure. >> Okay. >> So I just came out to check on it. I was here last week and nobody was here. >> Okay. >> So I don't I don't know when they decided to move themselves in between last week Monday. I think it was here Monday or Tuesday. And now. Uh so the four of them scattered that way through that back alley. There's a couple of them are in the garage. But there's still somebody in the house cuz when I yelled in the house somebody answered, so I just didn't go in beyond that. >> Okay. Yeah, no, you're fine. Which door was open? Okay. >> With the manager's account fresh in their minds, the cops stepped inside to see what the squatter had been up to. But the further they went, the more it became clear that this house had quite a few surprises of its own. >> Yes, 701 is there someone still in this house? Yes, 701, check this house until I get another unit here. >> Akron police, if you're up there, come down with your hands up. Come down now. House is surrounded, come down. There's nowhere to hide. I already heard you up there. Come down now. Hands up. Come down. Who else is up there with you? >> I don't know, I'm not sure. >> All right, come down. Hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. Who's Who's up there with you? Come down now. Hands up before you get in more trouble. Hands up. On top of your head, come down here. >> Sir? >> Did you hear anyone yell? Come down now. >> Which one of them told you that? >> Hands up. Stop. Right there. What are you doing here? >> I live here. I live here. >> Do you have a lease? >> No, I'm on a lease. >> So, how do you live here if you don't have a lease? >> I've been renting upstairs bathroom. I have a landlord. >> Why is the door kicked in? >> I know. I got mail proof. >> Put them together. Sit down. >> There's no one supposed to be here. I have mail here. >> It doesn't matter. I have the landlord outside. >> Okay. Well, that's the reason I got mail here. >> We're past that. >> Why didn't anybody ever come say anything? How long have you guys been staying here? >> A month. I don't know about >> My brother and I. >> Yeah. >> They need to check the upstairs. Landlord doesn't accept cash. Yeah, I mean I can please anyone else out here come out now. >> Check the other rooms. You want to go down the hallway? I'll check this bathroom first. The three people already in handcuffs, the cops continued their search for any more squatters. There was a possibility that the house had more to offer than just another occupant. >> Open attic. I'm going to open up this room. >> Echo police, if anybody's in here, make yourself known. >> Open attic. >> All right, I'll go right if you want to. >> Yeah. >> Is this closet down here? >> Everything but this closet over here. >> Uh you want to step back, we'll close this so we can open this one. Uh step this way. >> You can search that. >> All right. Who's coming out? I got one coming out here. >> Oh. >> All right. >> How you doing? >> Good. Can you step out here? >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. >> Come out. >> What's going on? >> What? What the >> Put your hands behind your head. >> Why didn't you answer when we were calling? >> I just walked up. >> Clearly you could hear me shouting. >> C13? >> Everyone's a 13 in this house. >> We're going to get you out of here, okay? >> What's going on? >> You don't live here. >> Yes, I do. >> This house is vacant. >> I've lived here since June. >> No one's supposed to be here. >> Why am I being arrested? >> No one's supposed to be. Clearly, yes. >> Well, I I don't understand why. >> Who'd you pay rent to? Did you have a lease? >> With this this friend of mine, Sarah. >> Yeah, Sarah doesn't own the house. >> Nah. >> She doesn't own the house. So right now you guys are trespassing. >> Okay. >> Can I put some shoes on? >> We'll get some shoes. when you get downstairs. Shoes in here. Yeah. I'm done with you. I slept in here. >> Do me a favor and just spread your legs for me. Those are your shoes there, right at the end of the bed. All right, I'll grab them for you if this is cool. Hi, come on out. >> Yeah, in a second. >> Yeah, but he needs to go in there in case there's another person in there. >> There is. All right, go ahead and put your hands behind your back for me. Size 12 light or 13? >> Which shoes do you Which shoes do you want? Sir, walk down the stairs. Which shoes do you want? The black pair, we'll grab them. Is there anybody else in here? >> Um like in the room? >> In the house? >> Oh, um sorry, I don't know. >> Do you have any weapons or anything on you? >> No, no. >> Clear over here. >> Now that everyone was in custody, the focus shifted from getting away with the situation to finding a way out of it. And if there was one thing that these squatters weren't about to do, it was go down without a fight. >> I said you do have warrants [music] for your arrest, is that correct? >> No, no. I have court on the 18th. Oh, please. Please call them and see if they want me, please, because I I just it's because of the not reporting and I don't live out here anymore. I just got out here today. Oh my goodness, please, dude. I I still have 10 days before court. >> [gasps] >> I can't go to jail again. I literally >> [laughter] >> I just found out I was pregnant and I still have syphilis. I can't go to jail, I'll miss my treatment. >> [laughter and gasps] >> Oh my god. Jesus Christ, how many cars showed up here? Who owns the house? >> I'd really like to be able to like talk to them. Like I thought that I've been paying rent since June. >> July. July. >> All right, July. I'm not even living with >> Uh well, my girlfriend. >> Who's your girlfriend? The one that was just arrested? >> No, that's just a friend of mine. >> Okay. >> My girlfriend is in Florida right now. Hanging out there. >> Okay. So, you pay rent here? >> Yeah. >> When's the last time you paid rent? >> Uh just my uh kind of month, but yeah, last month. >> Last month, so today's February, so you're talking January paying February? >> paid up to date. >> Do you have any way to prove that? >> No. No. No. No. >> Why? >> Because I pay cash. >> Who did you pay to? >> To Sarah. Sarah Black. >> Sarah Black. Do you have Sarah's phone number? >> I yeah, I have my phone. >> Okay, your phone's upstairs in your room? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Who pays the utilities? >> I thought she was. >> I thought I was. How much do you pay a month? >> I pay $300 a month. >> $300? You rent just that room? >> just one room. Everybody's out as far as >> Yeah, as far as I can tell. I We never even checked the basement. But because these I'm not going down there with the sewage pipe burst. >> One of the squatters had a story of their own, and judging by how polished it sounded, she clearly had plenty of time to get it just right. >> Who owns the home? >> Um >> Why you're in it. >> Well, >> and if a crime has actually been committed. >> You know, there's been no crime committed. Um >> Well, if you're not supposed to be there, then you're trespassing. >> Correct. You're You're absolutely correct. I I was unaware that I was trespassing because of the person that allowed us to start staying here in the first place. >> Okay. >> Her name is, um, Sarah Stack. And, uh, she was living here and she ended up having to go to Power Street and some other stuff and, um, you know, I just I've been here and taking care of the house, like trying to keep it together. The sub pump exploded in the basement, so I was trying to do some work with that. Um, me and a friend of mine were looking into buying the land lot if we could, uh, potentially talk to the owner and see if he was willing to sell or what, but really I was really on my way back out to Cleveland because I have to like move home with my mother. She's having a really hard time right now providing for my little sister. I do have a, uh, minor like court thing going on out here though that I have court on the 18th and, um, I just so happen to be out here a little earlier than the 18th so that I make sure that I'm actually in court because I cannot afford to miss court again. I do not want any more warrants. I do not want to spend any time in the county. Um, I don't really know much about the logistics of anything else of the house other than that I was staying here under Sarah Stack. She's not here anymore and I wasn't planning on being here anymore either. That's why we have the house like getting ready to get get up out of there today. I don't know if you noticed but it's like pretty bare on the inside. >> As the officers wrapped up their final checks of the building, the manager told them just how much trouble squatters could really cause. And unfortunately, living in a house that wasn't theirs was only part of the problem. >> This is the unfortunate part about owning properties. Well, I don't know who owns them, but the people who do own them. >> Okay. >> You know, I don't know what they're going to end up doing with this but this house was beautiful. So was it They the same guy that's foreclosing on me or that's losing these houses through bankruptcy owns like three houses in a row over on Moon, like 654, 58, and 70 or something. >> What is it? >> I was just over there. Somebody did the same There was nobody there. They broke in the side door. I mean, smashed all the stuff These houses were like turnkey finished, ready to sell. Uh, Uh, they smashed in all the door there, stole all the appliances >> Or for whatever reason, broke all the cabinet doors off in the kitchen. Um, and then stole a bunch of, uh, all the sinks to smash all the sinks to steal the faucets. >> Wow. >> Like, how [ __ ] stupid can you That faucet's worth two bucks, three max. >> Right. >> It cost >> I'm not going to do that to that space heater upstairs. There's a cell phone right behind you, Allen. >> The cops spoke to another one of the squatters, and once again, the story sounded familiar, but something in her countenance seemed to betray what her words were hiding. >> Tell me about the house here. What's going on? >> I have no idea. It's been two months. No one's ever been here so we knew we had to get out. >> So it's been in foreclosure for over a year. >> We paid the, uh, internet and electric bill. >> What about heat? >> Uh, the heat's off right now. >> But the electric bill, if I call Ohio Edison and ask them about this house, are they going to say it's supposed to be in someone else's >> No, there's no name. >> Well, the tag's been removed, so it's been tampered The box has been tampered >> Yeah, they're going to say it's supposed to be in Anthony McMillan's name, but we just >> That's odd, because then there there there'd be a gray tag on the box. >> I don't know. >> It looks like it's been tampered with. >> Done the damn line, like Well, the thing is, the receipt where they come out and turn the service on and stuff. >> It was now up to the manager to decide what happens next, and whatever choice he makes would leave everyone questioning their life choices. >> What do you guys want done? Do you want charges pressed? >> Yeah, and whatever charges you guys can press against them, breaking and entering, whatever. >> I I mean, to me, I'd say cut them loose, but the reality of it is, if you do that, they'll be back in here in 3 hours, and I'm going to have to call you back tomorrow and come do the same thing. >> Yeah. >> Uh But, that's I would say if they were going to be honest You can let them let them go away, but I know, you know, if you let them go, in 3 hours, I'm going to have the same conversation. >> Okay. >> And you said that the door was kicked in. When did the door get kicked in? >> Listen, I was at The door was fine when I got here. >> When did you get here? >> Yesterday. Literally last night. And the door was fine when I I was >> What time did you get here? >> Like 7:00 I don't know. Like I said, so I'm like extremely anxious all the time. >> I got you. Okay, so 4:00 yesterday you come and the door's fine. >> Yes, yeah. >> Okay. And now the door's kicked in. >> I think Well, okay. So, what it is is the door was kicked in like a while ago, back when the police came in the first place. Like uh when I got arrested here, I believe they kicked the door in. >> But you just said the door was fine when you >> No, no. Yeah, I'm I'm trying to explain that to you. I fixed the door when I very first came back from jail to get my initial like belongings that were still here after I got arrested here. I fixed the door. I did put like four new nails in it and try to like get it together like on the wall, but I'm not You know what I mean? I didn't have like any major materials, so I just like literally threw some nails in there to keep the frame up on the one side so it >> Okay. So, the last time you were here >> It was a little wonky. It wasn't exactly Yes, it wasn't exactly like perfect. >> When would you say that that was? >> When I I just I just went to jail like um the 13th, I I think, of last month. >> January? >> Yeah. >> I just talked to the energy company and their this power's been off for a year. It's not supposed to be on. There's no active accounts. So, between you guys having the door kicked in, the the power's not supposed to be on, no active heat, we can tell you guys don't live here. No one is supposed to be here. You guys are all being charged with criminal trespassing on the county. All your stuff's getting tossed out. You have no no right to be in the property. One's getting arrested. So, that that's what we're doing. >> I'm really like I can't I can't go back to county. I can't go back to county. I did not know that they were trespassing. Like I live in Cleveland. I don't need to be here. I can leave right now. >> But you were here. >> But I didn't know I was trespassing. I had an agreement with Sarah Stacks. She's staying in that apartment building right there, the red brick building next to the Thomas Todd W. Young building. >> You know that that's what court is for. >> No, I But how am I supposed to know when she said she was the landlord here? Like I wasn't I'm not even living here anymore. I just came back to help clean. I'm playing so I can talk to the property manager. I can't go to jail, please. Sir, listen. Please listen. I have syphilis. I'm pregnant. I have court on February 18th with Judge Allison Bro. I do not need any more trouble. I was not trying to be here any longer than today. I wasn't even staying here tonight. >> Listen to me. Relax. >> I can't I can't go to jail. >> Can I talk? Can I talk for 2 seconds? All of this that you're telling me [snorts] is what court is for, okay? As we're We got a call that there are several people in this house that are trespassing, not supposed to be here. The property manager is the one who called us, okay? >> Okay. >> They listen to me. They want to press you charges for criminal trespassing. So, that's what we're doing. That's what we have Listen. That's what we have to do. If you had some separate arrangements, you had agreements with other people, that's what court is for. You're going to see a judge in less than 24 hours. >> I know, but they're going to hold me in jail because I have court on the 18th. Like it's not just a ticket of offense. >> Why would they hold you? >> Because why wouldn't they hold me? >> In the end, they were all charged with criminal trespassing. The same people get comfortable in places that they had no right to be. But Tara took it a step further by staying for months and then making things even more difficult when the cops stepped in. >> A cashier's check. I just told Mr. Rowe yesterday. That's up to you. >> Okay. >> For this house. You said you want to sell it. Do you still want to sell it or not? >> Okay. >> I didn't I wasn't doing nothing. I shut the door to get the paper call my attorney. You put your light What's your What's your >> On December the 1st, 2025, officers were deployed after receiving a report of a woman squatting in a property that had been deemed unfit for habitation. When the cops arrived, the owner filled them in on the problems that had plagued his house for months. That was enough to give the officers a glimpse of what awaited them inside. >> Yeah, I'm not taking this one. I'm just going to assist the people who are. They're on their way right now. So, what's going on? >> I own the house behind me. >> Yep. >> Um and this Tara >> Tara, yep. We know who she is. >> Um she gave and I didn't know who she was. She gave me I came to that door. I'm getting moved out of this other place well rightfully. No water the whole time. >> Yeah, I know. I I ended up I was the one who called in about the no water. >> Oh, okay. >> Cuz so, >> Well, and and see, they um always keep on giving me a song and a dance. >> All right, do you want those people out of the house back there? >> Yeah. Just a little bit of an excuse. They've been there 4 months already. >> Well, we know >> We know. >> They're not supposed to be. >> We know they've been there. >> Yes. >> Well, and they really are >> Yes. Yes. Well, they told They told us you're They were paying you like $400 a month to stay here. >> The whole time. $480. >> The officer soon met Tara, and the attitude she came out with suggested that whatever was wrong with the house had somehow rubbed off on its occupant. >> [laughter] >> Is he there? >> Oh. >> Yes. >> Woah. >> Yes. Hi Dave. I can I come over there to your house, too? >> Yep. You know you're not supposed to be in this building, right? >> Um I called uptown, and they said give me 2 weeks cuz I I was getting the the plumbing fixed, and I'm getting ready to give him a cashier's check. If you don't want that, that's fine with me, too. A cashier's check. I just told Mr. Rhodes yesterday. That's up to you. >> Okay. For this house. You said you want to sell it. You still want to sell it or not? >> Okay. Hey, what's your name? >> Tara. >> What's your Spell your last name. >> It's S H E R O >> Oh, can we come in? >> No. You cannot come in my house. >> Okay. Did you not just hear me? I just got out. >> You weren't. We literally saw you outside of your last week. Spell your last name. Spell your last name. >> Well, I might have been here twice. >> Spell your last name. Spell your last name. >> S H E R T Spell it out. >> Excuse me. Okay. It's Tara Sherrod. You don't have a key? Open the door. >> Am I under arrest? >> Open the door. Open the door. Open the door. If you don't tell me your name, that's obstructing identification and you're going to be under arrest. OPEN THE DOOR. OPEN. OPEN. >> There's There's prohibited. Go. >> Can I kick it in? >> Yeah. >> Am I under arrest? CAN I CALL MY ATTORNEY? >> UNDER ARREST. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. I'm asking you right now. I want my phone. Do you have it right now? I'm not going anywhere. I'm under arrest for what? >> After dealing with Tara, the officers went through the house one last time determined to make sure nothing had slipped past them. >> Dave, that that tablet in there is got I need it. Will you give it to me? Go get it for me. Okay, I got Guys, you guys are so funny. I did not resist you nothing. I shut the door to get the paper, call my attorney. There's a door right there. >> Ma'am, please. Nobody down here, make yourselves known. >> Did they know I have 1395? I said it, but I'm not sure they didn't respond. Huh? >> Yes, for now. She was a given to you. She gave you a warning. >> That's one of our guys in the back. >> Yep. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, that's us. Um >> Where? >> She uh No, no, no. I just didn't know if they had heard me and dispatched that I had her 95. >> I know. Okay.
