So, we are using >> [screaming] >> card number two today. We sell them in a set of five. You can order those over at bodycambingo.com or firesafred.com. Whichever one you want to go to. Let's check this video out. If you've got some cards, you can play along. >> On August 10th, [music] 2024, officers responded to a call of a vehicle collision in which the driver attempted to leave the scene. >> All right. >> Officer, I'm also very lost. Nice to meet you. >> Aubrey's son. >> Okay, cool. >> I'm the one that got hit, so or not me, but my truck while I was inside. >> Okay, so where is that the truck out there? >> Yes, the black one. Um So, just back there she When we came outside, she was driving away. When we saw her, she stopped. Other guy that was with her jumped jumped jumped out. She um jumped back in the car, drove off. I told him, "Hell no. Like, that's a hit-and-run." And then she he was like, "She's going to get her mom." And I was like, "Well, she needs to come back right now." >> Okay. >> So, she came back, parked the car. >> Is that her right there? >> No, that's her mom. >> That's her mom. Where is she? >> Her mom told her to go home. >> Okay. >> No. And I don't know if it's her or not, but he said she seemed drunk, so. >> Okay. >> Absolutely not. >> Why are you all wet? >> Cuz I was outside in the grass trying to sure everybody is okay. >> Okay. >> Outside in the grass? >> What happened? What happened? >> in the middle of the road and I just ran into them. >> Your car was just in the road? >> There was cars all over the side of the road. >> Okay. Where were you coming from? >> From the house. >> Where were you like where you were you driving away or you coming back from somewhere? >> away from house, yeah. >> Where did you go? Because you seem Are you Are you okay? >> Yeah. >> Do you need EMS at all? >> No. >> Okay. >> Like I have some scratches, but it's okay. >> I'm just trying to figure out where you Did you go somewhere or did you drive back from somewhere? >> No, I was driving away from the house and >> Where were you going to? >> To I was going to Mel's. >> Mel's? >> Mel's is a bar. It's like right down the road. >> Okay. All right. Go grab your ID, please. >> Okay. Yes, I am. >> I'm just trying to I'm I'm going to ask you one more time. Um tell me what happened. >> I was literally just driving. There's cars parked all over the side of the road. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> They're on the side of the road. >> Like it's It just happened, you know? >> Okay. My The problem I'm having is is that um you don't seem all the way there and you left. You possibly hit and run. Good thing you came back, but >> and run. I'm working in the medical field. Like I never would. >> Listen. Listen. Just listen to me. >> Yes, sir. >> But you left. >> I don't believe that you're okay to drive. >> No. >> Um are you willing to do field like do some exercises to see if you're okay to >> For what? My house is right there. >> I'm just asking. It's It's a voluntary. >> I will if you need me to. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah, we need you to. >> Are you going to take me to jail? >> Well, okay. This is voluntary, so I'm asking you if you're willing to do these exercises. >> Okay. >> I stop people all the time who don't know the law. And it's not because they're bad. It's just that no one ever told them. Turning 65 and signing up for Medicare is the same story. No one hands you a rulebook. My house is right there. >> Okay, Rebecca, the problem I'm having is that you drove away and you came back in the state that you're in. I don't >> come back. I stayed. >> Okay. So, are you willing to do these exercises or not? >> For what? >> Oh, I wish I had [clears throat] a "for what" on here. >> driving if you need to. >> But I'm not going to drive. My house is right there. I'm going home. >> I just need yes or no. >> But why? I want to know why. >> Because I don't think you're in the right state to be driving. I understand that you're you're home. >> fine. I understand what you're saying, but my house is right there. >> I understand. >> It doesn't matter how close you are to your house. >> my keys. >> Okay. >> I'm going to walk home and be home. >> I understand that, Rebecca said. >> Why are you asking me? >> But you were previously driving. >> No, I can smell alcohol on your breath. Because Okay, let me >> And so have they. They've been drinking, too. So, what's your point? >> They weren't driving. >> Okay, you left the scene, but your car is >> No, I don't know. My car is right there. I didn't leave the scene. >> Okay. >> My car is right there. They called the police, and I was there. >> All right. Are you willing to take these exercises to do these exercises? >> And I want to know for why. >> I For driving under the influence. >> Of what? >> Alcohol. >> Of alcohol. I don't know how else to explain it to you. I don't I'm I'm being serious. It's yes or no. >> Okay, if I don't, then what? >> This is voluntary. I'm not forcing you to do this. This is Either you say yes or no, and >> Okay, and if I say no, then what? >> Then that we'll get to that point when we have to >> Okay, but I want to know if I say no, what happens? >> We'll get to that point. >> I'm forced to make a decision based on the information at hand. >> No, if I say no to your test, I want to know what happens. >> You're saying no? Okay. >> No, I'm not saying no. I have a choice. >> Oh, she said she had rights. You know what? That's I know my rights. >> She does. >> I would like to know what happens if I say no, what happens after I say no. >> This Listen, this is voluntary. So, it's either a yes or no. That's all I'm going to tell you. >> Okay, and then what? >> That's all I'm telling you right now. >> Okay. >> So, are you willing to take these exercises? Okay. >> Can I hit my vape first, or what? >> No. >> Let me do these exercises. >> Okay. >> You can If you can slow down, come here. But it's not urgent. >> It's not urgent because >> Okay, I was talking to my partner on the radio. >> I know, and it could have all been solved by insurance, and I don't know why y'all are here. >> Okay. >> Cuz you're drunk. >> Do you see the tip my I need you to stand by uh >> [clears throat] >> hands by your side. >> Okay, hands by my side. I see you. >> All right. Can you see the pen? >> I do see it. >> So, just follow Do not move your head and just follow the tip of the pen, okay? >> How interesting that as this officer starting this DUI investigation because obviously this driver who left the scene looks impaired, she's like, "I just live right there." I can't tell you how many impaired drivers I've arrested that like, "I just live right there. I just live right down the road. I'm just I'm just about home." It is incredible. Like, it's some sort of like the crime of DUI just shouldn't be enforced within uh so many miles of your house. Um I I don't think that drunks understand that it doesn't matter how close you get or if you get to your driveway, you can still be arrested for DUI. And it doesn't matter that you're right down the road, but it is always It's a very consistent sign of impairment when people either say, "Oh, I just live right there." or they say, "I'll park my car and I'll walk." or "I'll have someone come and pick me up." Like, I would never say that. I'm sober. I'm going to drive my car. You do what you need to do, but I'm sober. People that are impaired are always trying to downgrade it and go, "No, I'll just walk home. I just live right there." It's a big clue and it is absolutely It's reliable and it's repeatable. >> I'm [snorts] going to just put your vape right here, okay? >> Ooh. >> So, this last exercise, I'm just You can Are you able to stand on one foot? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, you pick the foot you want to stand on, take it off above the ground approximately 6 in, and you're going to count out loud until I tell you to stop, okay? >> Okay, can I take my shoes off? >> If you want to, yeah, you >> Yep, you can take your shoes off. Hold on, just give me 1 second and then I'll tell you when to start. >> my vape one more time? Oh, just finish this exercise and >> No. >> Okay. >> Okay. Give me one. >> All right. >> Give me one second. I'm trying to find the timer. I'll just do it off my foot. >> Okay. How many seconds? >> I'll just tell you when. I'll tell you when to stop, okay? So, do you understand what I told you? >> I'm just doing on one foot. >> Okay. So, I'll repeat it. So, you're going to use one of your foot, either or. You're going to take it off about 6 in from the ground. Keep your hands by your side. >> Okay. >> And you're going to look at that foot. And you're going to count out loud until I tell you to stop, okay? >> Okay. >> Okay. Just I'll tell you when to start. >> Start >> All right. >> All right. >> Ready, and you may start. >> All right. One. Two. Three. Four. >> Oh. >> This is hard. Five. >> No, it's not. >> Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. 10. 11. >> Oh. Use your arm. >> 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. >> Oh. Little sway. >> 17. >> Oh. 18. 19. 20. >> All right. That's three out of four clues right there. >> I just showed you. >> I can't even see this suspect's leg. And I can see the clues on the one-leg stand. So, there's four possible clues. You can sway, so you move back and forth. You use your arms for balance. You put your foot down. And you hop. So, you you move the position of your foot from when you raise your other your opposite foot. Um just in here, she's got three out of four. I mean, just in watching that video for a short amount of time. So, she's got three out of four on the one-leg stand. Every study, all the studies that are that have been done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say, "Hey, if you're if you show two or more clues, there's a percentage, and depending on what study, that percentage could be either in the 70s or in the 80s, of a percentage that when displaying those clues, that person's under the influence, and that their BAC is above a .08." And um it sure looks like it's pretty reliable here. >> 45 seconds is hard, though. All right. Make sure. All right. Uh go ahead and turn around for me. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Here we go. She knows. >> It can't be good like your brain. >> Yep. She knows she's going. >> I'm fine. >> Yep. >> You're going to be fine. >> Okay. >> Oop. I'm not trying to hurt you. >> I'm fine. >> Yeah, okay. I'm fine. We'll get a lawyer. Cuz this is for arresting me for no reason. Hey, that's fine. But I think you need to calm down. >> How about that? >> arresting me for no reason cuz you drove this car through the middle of the goddamn freaking highway. >> Hey. >> That's fine. That's >> You still can't run into it. >> Right now, the more crap you do like this, the more it's going to be written down in your You need to stop doing I can walk away. You need to stop. >> This suspect seems to be pretty amicable, right? So, she's going, she's answering some questions with the officer. As soon as the cuffs go on, everything changes. Then she says that she was she was arrested for no reason, and then she's saying that the car was parked in the road, and that's why her the that that other vehicle got struck is cuz it was in the middle of the road. I doubt that vehicle was in the middle of the road. I bet that it was parked, and she ran into it because she was drunk. But I don't see that this is anyone's problem but hers. >> Okay. >> Is that her ID? >> Yes, yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Well, >> Well, how about you don't tell me to >> park in the road, and then maybe nobody would hit your car. How about that? >> Or you could drive sober and not run into it. Either way. >> Everybody, how about that? Yeah, maybe park in the road, and then maybe nobody would hit your goddamn car. That's fine. I'll never get into nursing school. That's fine. >> Sounds like a you problem. >> I'm fine. It's not going to be okay. >> All right. >> Do you have any Well, before I put you in the car, do you have anything sharp in your pocket? >> No. >> Would you like to take your vape? >> Yes. >> Okay. Okay. You can turn around and face the wall. >> Okay, it's going to be okay, baby. It's not going to be okay. I'm never going to get into nursing school. What the do you want? >> Yes, you are. Yes, >> [laughter] >> you are. >> As we go down, she starts giving this tirade of that it's everyone else's fault, and she just wants to hit her vape, and mom's there giving her hugs and saying, "It's okay." And she has to hit her vape again. But, these are all just coping mechanisms because she just has an in absolute obvious inability to deal with the slightest bit of adversity. Like, this is not a life-ending decision. She didn't kill anyone, luckily. She just got into a wreck after having a couple too many beers, and she's got up She's There's consequences for that. But, her absolute inability to cope with this, and her sobbing and crying, and just all of these antics, what they show is she's not ready for nursing school. She's not mature enough for nursing school. So, maybe she needs to get through this and learn a little bit of resilience in her life before she goes and tries to take care of other people. >> Yes, you are. This is a lesson. This is a lesson. I've been telling her a long time. Okay? And thank god it happened here and not out there. >> I don't deserve this I don't. >> I love you. Do you have any You said you didn't have anything in your pocket. Okay. You can go ahead and sit down. But first is the easiest way. >> It's okay. >> Is there anything that I can She can take that. >> have anything. Can I please hit my vape one more time? >> Yeah. >> Jeez, [laughter] talk about an addiction. >> Um hold on. >> What's going to happen tomorrow? Who do I call to? >> Just hang tight. Hold on. So, um right now I'll have to take you to get, you know, I have to read her Hold on. I got to This is her vape. Can hold this? I just got to read her her implied consent before I leave. >> And what are her charges? What is she being charged with? >> now it's um DUI and hit and run. So, that's uh what we got so far, so just hang tight. I just need to read this to her. Oops. Okay. Becca, I understand you're Becca, I understand. I just need you to listen to me right now, okay? Take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. [crying] All right, I got to read this to you, okay? >> I understand my rights. You don't have to read it to me. >> No, I I do have to read this to you, okay? >> Can you please put these in the front? This hurts so bad. >> Becca, >> I'm going to go complaints about cuffs on that one. >> The state of Georgia has conditioned your privilege to drive upon the highways of this state upon your submission to state administered chemical test of your blood, breath, urine, or other bodily substance for the purpose of determining if you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I'm I'm going to fix it, but that one's a little bit tight, so let me fix that real quick. Uh do you want to bring your your vape or you want to leave it? You can do Yeah. I mean, I'll hold I can't You can't hit it throughout the drive, but I can let you hit it right now. >> How about you limit your addiction to nasty, disgusting substance you're putting in your lungs. >> All right, let me check the the handcuffs. >> The woman was charged with a DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. >> All right, card number two.
