By the time the first officers arrived, the group had already fled, but employees managed to provide a vehicle description and more importantly, a license plate number. While patrol units searched the area, an officer on bicycle patrol spotted the vehicle and called for a marked unit to initiate a stop under a different pretext. [music] Because if the women realized police already suspected them of theft, the situation could spiral before officers even had [music] a chance to investigate properly. >> Go turn the car off. Turn the car off. >> Turn the car off now. Turn the car off now. >> Where do you have that vehicle now? >> Insurance. >> Let's do a show. >> We'll explain why we're pulling you over. >> All right. received one. Let me see that. >> Okay. >> I don't know why. >> All right. Just give us a second. Blow the windows. I receive. Why do you have that vehicle stopped? Your police know being recorded. >> Why we being one of those units? >> What? >> Just stay in the car. >> I'm not the same. >> Where you guys coming from? Every answer came with denial, attitude, [music] or another excuse. But officers already knew far more than the suspects [music] realized. As the questioning continued, what started as a routine theft investigation quickly started to turn into [music] complete chaos. >> Yeah. Hello. We just got pulled over by the police and it's a thousand of them. >> What happened? >> Say we just got pulled over by the police. >> No, no, no. I'm going to bring one of them for you. Yo, we just it's >> like five police cars us like we can't go. >> 11 received. >> Take them all out of the car. Have them stand here. >> Why the car? Blue lemon. Blue lemon. >> They pointed out your car. Why? >> Someone point out your car that you're involved in. >> So we have reasonable articul. >> I see a million white cars. I'm so confused. >> Can I give you a specific mix and >> Were you guys at the car? >> What about the other road? Nobody only right there parking spot right there. >> We did see people walk out but never do you have a license or do you have an ID, man? >> No, we ran outside. We only came outside to go right back. >> Do you have Do you have an ID? Nothing. >> No, I didn't know I would need any of that on my way coming outside. That's crazy. >> That is crazy. >> That is crazy. >> He wasn't even going to come outside because it was too nice outside. >> What's your first name? >> My first name. I'm just your first listen. >> You have ID, ma'am. ID? >> No, I don't have my ID. >> You have nothing with your name, >> huh? >> You have nothing with your name? No identification? >> I don't have my ID on nothing. I was lost in >> with pressure building [music] and officers separating stories. The cracks started forming almost immediately. The women tried [music] protecting themselves, but in doing so, they began pointing fingers at one another. Each version of events making someone else look more guilty. It was only a matter of time before their stories completely unraveled. >> He not he don't want to talk, but they just blissed us, made us get out car, and everything because they said somebody I don't know, but you know, I don't I don't deal with cops. I got PTS. >> Yeah, you guys are a suspect shoplifting. That's That's why we're here. >> You keep saying that. You keep saying that. But he keep saying y are. But y'all not checking the cameras. >> We have people there. >> They're checking the cameras. >> We have people there. >> They're checking the cameras. >> So, y'all can just do this. Look in the car. Do do this cuz y >> We're not looking in your car right now. We can look from view without touching your car. I'm looking from the outside. I'm not in your car. What? is helping. You are looking. >> We can look from plain view. >> We not trying to argue with y'all so I can close our doors. Door hang to check anybody. >> Listen to the building. That's why the door open for plain view, but the door's open. >> You'll be upset. >> I know. But no, that's how >> y arrest. Okay, >> we under arrest under arrest, >> man. Put your hands under arrest. >> Take my phone under arrest. >> Can you Can you hand that to Harper? Can you hand that to heart, please? >> I can't hand that to Harper. Don't get Don't get aggressive. >> No one's getting aggressive, man. Put your hands behind. Ma'am, turn around. Can you turn around, please? >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. No, this is my sister. Why is >> the wrong with y'all? Conspiracy conspiracy to commit child. She's getting arrested for conspiracy to commit childl. >> You don't have to go in the store to commit childl. >> I got it. I got it. It's going to come with you. >> All right. Well, we have a merchandise here. We're going to probably >> open it. Why you about to tell my car? I have a daughter. What is you talking about? Under arrest for what? What am I? I wasn't even IN THE STORE. WHAT YOU ABOUT? I wasn't even >> She was never in the store. >> She doesn't have to be. >> CAN I HAVE MY PHONE? Like I wasn't even in no store. We'll explain that >> cuz I got to [laughter] pay for that. >> Most likely we're going to tow for it there. >> But I'm saying that's $200. I can't pay for that. Like >> we'll see if we can move it, but it's not going to be a def. >> Can you please just move it into a parking spot so I can at least come back? >> My car's got a toe cuz it's unregistered. >> Here you go. >> It's unregistered. I have a registration. My car is not unregistered. >> No, it did not. No, it did not. I'mma tell my I'mma tell my mother to take a picture of it cuz it's not. It's it's it's registration. >> Why don't we go on the other side? >> All right. >> What do you mean? >> That's my car. So, I'm going to put her in a different car. >> My phone, please. >> Put it in my pocket. >> It's not going in your pocket. So, you're under arrest. You don't have any property. >> How am I on? I'm not even giving him a score. >> Listen, we're going to explain everything to you, but the thing is that it's considered that you're the getaway driver. So, your conspiracy conspiracy to they committed committed shoplifting. >> What the waited outside? >> So, you got conspiracy to commit shoplifting. >> Thank you. >> Officers made it clear that none of them would be walking away untouched by the situation. But even then, the arguments [music] and excuses kept coming. At this point, it was best for the women to just stop [music] talking because they were only complicating the situation. >> Just so you know, you don't dictate what's happening. You're under arrest. >> Okay. That's my body. >> Just walk. Yeah. Female's going to search. >> I know that a female is supposed to me down. >> I don't know what he's talking about. I do know that. >> Okay. >> We haven't seen official flag. You're trying to get a lawyer. >> She can't control what nobody else do. And she never went in that store. Y'all viol can I put her right? Just hold on. >> All right. >> Yo, what the going on? What is going on? Like what is going on? >> I can put her on 105. All right, ma'am. Just walk this way with me, please. >> Yeah, if you walk this way over ahead, he has 105 in the >> It's on the corner up there. All right. >> That brown outfit did not come out of the blue lemon. That's the number that we have receipts for. He is only He can only take what has alarms on it. You can't take that brown set. That brown has no >> Okay. But you can't take that brown. >> That doesn't have no alarm on it. But watch the camera and see that that was never taken. Y'all just [music] touching stuff there. >> We was going to trade that. >> Yeah. Can I get my purse out of that car? I can't get my purse. >> Your purse? >> Yes. I need my purse >> because I I don't have >> to call. You just want to come with me. >> Ma'am, just have a seat here, please. Thank you. it. Where is it in the car? >> It look like it was sitting on the glove compartment. Not the black compartment. >> Still a big MK bag. >> Okay. Okay. We'll get that for you. >> You want me to come up with you or go back a little? I'll have Josh come with me. >> All right. Uh Josh, go on the other side and just >> Yeah, we'll see. Just got to put this belt on there right now. >> You got that? >> We actually have >> you got room. >> By then, the original theft charges were only part of the problem. The longer the encounter dragged on, the more consequences piled up. And with every interruption, denial, and outbursts, the women kept making an already bad situation worse. >> Step out. >> I have no rescue. Listen, you release on the summon. >> Yeah, that's what I told you. >> No warrant to be released. >> It's locked. Okay. >> Yeah, back seat. Look good. >> That's it. Lock the back seat. >> I got from the car. You want that? >> All I was saying was my license is suspended. My my registration is brand new. I could have somebody pick up the car. That's not an issue. >> The car's in the middle of the street. >> I know. I'm see if >> you know we we legally can't move cars like that. >> Okay. >> Because of liability on us. >> I I don't have money right now to get my I have to get my daughter. I don't have money. >> I saw the child seat back. >> No parent. >> I I'll call whoever's over there and see what they can do. But we can't leave it. Even if it's on register, we can't leave it on a public street. >> I can show you my registration. I have a picture. >> I know you were showing to me. I saw your insurance. I didn't see the registration. >> My registration is in the house. I have a picture of it. They just sent I'll have to I'll have to dust look at it again. >> I might just get a picture of it. I'm telling you my stuff. If somebody can come pick up the car tomorrow, >> they just finished 137 >> back. Just stand here, please. Stand over here. You face the wall. It's right over here. >> Yeah. >> I'll have him check the uh cuz it takes like 20 minutes to get a call. I'll have him check the driver's license. I'm sorry. The registration, his registration. The driver's license. Tell me to send a picture of the registration sheet. >> I'll have them look at it again, but it's whatever it says in the system. Your phone your phone. >> You can look it up. >> Your phone The registration could be either suspended or my license is suspended. >> I'm going to double check. I'm going to ask some of the people. >> My license is >> I just ordered brand new ones. >> I'm going to double check with them. I >> take that down and I'm going to check with them. >> I've gotten pulled over multiple times. Could I please get [music] someone on that speed? They >> You can make a phone call just not a second. We got to get everybody situated on the bench. Once we get everything relaxed, we know exactly what what's going on. >> But we tell you and we'll let you make a >> No, but I'm saying I went for a suspended license. They said it always pops up as a registration is is is expired and it's really the license. >> You ever take that over the DMV? >> The suspended? No, but they sent it in the mail. >> Okay. I'm going to ask them. So, did we check? And I'm going to ask them to check again. >> I could call the place that I I have to put that one on. >> I could call the place that I have the car for me. >> I got to ask them what's in the system. It's not what you can provide, it's what's in the system. >> If it's what what's in the system is incorrect, you got to go to DMV and take care of that in your own comments. Let me check my sto. That's what I'm doing. They can't take your car. They cannot take your car. They got to have somebody come. My uncle was y >> camera doing no crime. I'll put your hat in your bag. >> Okay, thank you. >> A store employee was later brought to the station [music] to positively identify the three suspects involved in the theft. In the end, all three women [music] were charged with shoplifting while the driver faced an additional conspiracy charge. Speaking of shoplifterss putting up a dumb act, meet Eliia Herrera, a woman who showed absolutely no shame about shoplifting and lying straight to officers faces about it despite overwhelming evidence. >> You're [snorts] matching the description that uh shoplifted uh at Walmart. >> I have nothing on me. >> Blonde hair, black shirt, white emblem on your shirt. Why Why are you getting nervous now? Now that we're going to go look at the camera, >> I'm not nervous. I'm getting upset because you're giving me something I didn't eat. On the 25th of March 2023, officers received a call [snorts] from a Walmart regarding a woman allegedly caught shoplifting inside the store. By the time officers arrived, she had already left the building. But it didn't take long to find her nearby. Cornered outside another business with nowhere left to go. >> Hi. How [snorts] you doing? >> Let me talk to you. >> Let me talk to you. >> Come over here. >> You come over here. I'm talking to you. What are you talking about? >> You just go over there, sir. Let me talk to you. Don't make this any harder than it has to be. Come on. Where's your purse at? >> I don't have a purse. >> You didn't bring your purse? >> No, sir. >> Did you come from Walmart? >> No, sir. I didn't. >> No. >> No. >> I think you're looking for the wrong person. >> I'm looking for the wrong person. >> Yes. >> Can you stop over here for me? >> Hey, where you going? >> What's wrong? What's going on? >> Okay. Well, yeah. Uh, you you're matching the description that uh shoplifted at at Walmart. >> What was the I don't have nothing on me. Blonde hair, black shirt, white emblem on your shirt. >> My hair is literally dark. >> I I said blonde hair. >> Oh, they said long hair. >> No, I said black hair. >> No, that's not me. >> That's not you. >> I didn't come from Walmart. >> Okay, we'll just make sure then. >> Okay. Can we hurry? I have a sign I need to go. >> We're not going to hurry. >> What was your name? >> You're You're on my time now. >> Just me. You're looking for the wrong person. I don't have Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. I mean, like I said, we're going to try to see and then if if you're the wrong person, then you can leave. But I mean, you're matching the description. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> You should be in the parking lot over there. That's where that that happened. That out there. >> They told us you the person that walked walked to Murphy's and she was standing next to a white van. >> That van just showed up. >> I know. And I And I just showed up, too. >> I wasn't standing next to a white van, though. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. You got the wrong person. >> What were you doing just standing there? >> Well, where's the staff? What stuff >> that they I suppose the shop list did? >> You tell me. >> You can search me if you want. I don't got nothing. I don't have I don't Where'd you leave the stuff over there? I didn't come from over there. >> Where'd you put the stuff then? >> I didn't come from over there. Did you cannot hear me? Can you prove that I came from there? >> But you want to look at the cameras? >> I mean, you want to go with me so we can look at the cameras? >> You should look at it before you came over here. >> All right, let's go look at the cameras then. >> No, I'm good. I am not the person. >> So, why you why you getting nervous now? Now that we're going to go look at the cameras. >> I'm not nervous. I'm getting upset cuz you're accusing me of something I didn't do. I did not shop. >> 129 PD. >> From the description given by staff to the surveillance footage waiting inside the store, everything pointed directly at her. And once officers began reviewing the evidence, any chance of talking her way out of the situation quickly started disappearing. >> Now, what am I being arrested for? Am I being arrested? >> I'm not arresting you. >> Can you tell me that? >> I just told you you're not being arrested. All right. You don't have any any >> No weapons at all. >> I'm going to have to check before I put you in there. Okay. >> And I'm not being arrested. >> You're not being arrested. We're going to look at the cameras. We're going to make sure that it's not you. And if it's not you, you'll be on your way. >> Oh, there's the bag. >> I don't know what this person doing. >> Oh, >> look at that. >> Well, we got a straight camera right above that head. She put it there. right there. >> This camera's right here to show that camera hit. Look, this camera hits. I can see it on the camera standing at my register. That's why I came out is I had seen her drop something. >> Do you have your purse? And she told you no. So, I told her I said, "There's a purse right there. I'm going to go make sure he knows." You know what I mean? >> Uh, I'm going to go look at those cameras, record that, and then I'll probably come back so I can look at your cameras. Okay. >> All right. >> All right. Thank you. And that's not your purse. The one that was right next to you. >> Excuse me. >> That wasn't your purse? >> How do you know it was my purse? Did you go through it? Did you search it? I didn't search it. But >> I don't need a search warrant for that. >> No, I don't. >> I'm not laughing. >> What's so funny is that you're >> I'm telling you. Are you going to let me talk? >> Okay. There's her purse right next to you and you're saying it's not your purse. There's a camera right above you. I didn't say that. >> Oh my lord. >> Okay. >> All right. Well, we'll find out here in a bit. >> You just made it all worse. >> Cuz I could have just given you a ticket. You would have been on your way. >> A ticket for what? >> For shoplifting. >> How do you know I shoplifted? >> I already told you. >> Did you see me like leave with that stuff? >> The guy that works here? Yes. >> Put that in my purse? >> The guy that works here? [music] Yes. >> You see me put that in my purse? >> Okay. I guess we'll find you. >> Did you? Yes or no? >> I'm about to. >> You physically saw me put that in my purse. >> I'm about to look. >> You saw me put that in my purse. So, I already know I didn't already give it to me. >> Okay. Well, give me a gift. >> Give me 10 minutes and I'll go find out for you. >> Well, it was a gift. >> It was a gift. Okay, I'll go find out. >> At this point, Eli's entire demeanor suddenly changed. The confidence she carried at first began fading, replaced with a different tone altogether. The evidence against her was becoming [music] impossible to ignore. >> Are we going to be good now? >> Yes, I will. I'm sorry. >> All right. Are we going to start admitting to stuff? >> Nothing. >> Come on. >> I didn't kill nothing. It was a gift. >> Okay. Well, we're going to go talk to this guy then. >> I don't want to see that guy. He He just scares me. >> He scares you. >> He scares me. >> Come on, girl. >> He He He football He football tackled me. >> He tackled you. >> He wanted to Please don't make me go in there. Like, no, I'm not going to go in there. Why don't you want to go in there? >> He scares me. He scares me. He does. >> Who Who scares you? >> That guy. >> All right, let me go see what >> Okay. Thank you. And I will >> Before long, her [music] story changed completely. Instead of explaining the theft allegations, she started painting herself as the victim, hoping officers might focus on sympathy. >> Is it really that hot over here? >> Oh my goodness, bro. >> Why? It was something I didn't do. >> You're still saying that? >> My friend gave it to me. I swear. She told me to hold that corner. >> Where's your friend at? >> I think she set me up because she left. >> You already know why you >> I know. Well, I know. I know. >> You already know. Like I'm just >> I'm very embarrassed. >> All right. What's your name? >> Um why am I banned? You're trespassing here. >> Okay. It will be a E L O I Y H. >> That's her right there getting stuff from her on that deal, >> which I assume is most of what's in their bag. And right here, she's >> All righty. And then what's the what's the total on this puppy? >> 30 >> subtotal 31.97. >> Okay, gotcha. >> We don't get the tax. >> All right. You good? You on me? >> It's hot in here. >> I've been doing for a long time. >> All right. So, we're going to start saying the truth or we just going to keep lying. >> About what? >> About the shoplifting. I'm telling you, if you don't tell me the truth, I'm going to take you to jail. >> Tell me the truth. I said everything that in that bag is your is theirs. >> Everything? >> Yeah. >> I thought it was just the the little baggie. >> Not in this little baggie. >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. All right. So, you took that, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, I'm going to give you a ticket. >> Okay. >> All right. Next time, let's try not to like do all this. Oh, why are you me and doing all that? Cuz we're just wasting our time. I never >> No, no, no. I'm saying like stopping. >> Oh, okay. >> You know, like doing the whole We'll check the cameras and all that because we can't. >> I'm giving you a hard time. >> Oh, yeah. I know. >> Nobody has to give you a hard time throughout your day, right? I'm >> I've had that. I've had that all day. >> I'm that person today. Nobody's giving you a hard time but me, I'm sure. >> All right. >> I'm sorry. >> All right. Let me just write down the ticket and then uh I'll let you get out of here and then you're also trespassing here. Okay. So, you can't >> So, I can never come back. >> You can't come back to >> What about the other Walmart? What if I have to grocery shop >> or pick up some groceries? >> So, from what I know, it's this one. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> You can't come back to this one. >> Okay. All right. >> I don't want to come back anyways. That guy. >> All right. So, what kind of music you like? Cuz we're going to be here for like 20 minutes. >> Whatever you like. >> I'm Mexican. >> I'm Mexican. >> All right, then. We're going to put some freaking Mexican music. Do you have an ID with you? >> No, I don't. >> Okay. >> Because that just makes it longer. Now I have to type everything. In the end, Eli Herrera was given a citation for shoplifting and was trespassed from Walmart property. Up next is another shoplifting suspect who thought that acting like the victim would somehow outweigh surveillance footage, witnesses, and the fact that officers already knew exactly why they were there. >> Do me a favor real quick. All right. Come here. Come here. Don't do not don't walk away from me. >> The only thing this is the only thing she paid for was two Pope pies. >> No, no, I didn't buy Popeyes. >> On the 27th of September 2023, officers were dispatched to a CVS pharmacy after reports of a woman shoplifting inside the store. Unlike most theft calls, this one didn't involve a long search for a suspect already gone by the time police arrived. Officers found her almost immediately standing right outside the store before she even had the chance to disappear. >> How we doing? Here you go. Do me a favor real quick. All right. Come here. >> Come here. >> Don't do not don't run away from me. Come here. >> Please. Please don't. Please. I'm begging you. >> Okay. And I'm I'm begging you. >> I'm begging you to put your arms behind your back. >> Please don't. Cuz it hurts me. >> Okay. Put your arms behind your back. >> Please. Please. >> I'm 102. >> Please >> put your arms behind your back. >> Do not do not resist or you're going to Listen, I'm going to tell you something real quick. >> Resist and you go to the ground. You hear me? So, right now you're just being detained. >> My clothes is definitely stolen last night. >> And I never got to see Pastor Terry because he didn't show yesterday morning, but I have to leave today cuz they came by and told me. >> Listen, >> do you want to sit down here or do you want to sit down right here next to your bike? >> I'm okay. >> Huh? >> I'm okay. >> Which place do you want to sit down at? That's what I'm asking. >> I need my my my right here is my wallet. The other one's not mine. >> It's not going anywhere. We're standing right here. >> I got But I just don't want to take Hey, I got my cards in it. Everybody stole my cards. >> We're not going anywhere. We're standing right here. I'm asking, do you want to sit down here or do you want to sit down right there? >> Um I'm all right standing. Okay. I'm afraid I'll miss my pants. >> I'm You're going to sit down while I do what I need to do. Do you want to sit here or do you want to sit there? >> I'll sit here. >> Okay. >> I got to tell you something. That person is my girlfriend's and she's at over at Daily Bread. I just came from and she wants >> right right now. Everything that is right here is in your possession right now. So, let's have a seat. >> Doesn't belong to me. >> Have a seat. >> She asked me to look for nails and for lashes for and stuff. And I called her and she said, "We'll talk about all that in just a second. Have a seat. >> I'm going to help you down. Have a seat." >> At first, officers weren't entirely sure what kind of encounter that they were walking into. But within minutes, it became obvious that they were dealing with someone far more unpredictable than the average shoplifting suspect. >> You said this wallet is yours? That's my wallet. I guess it's got my >> Does that got an ID in it? >> Well, no, because I have to go to the the ID driver's license because they stole it all again. >> So, you don't have an ID? >> No, they stole all my purses, all my IDs. So, she was she was shoving it in her purse. >> I watched her shoving in the purse over in the grocery aisle where there was no cameras. >> I watched her go over into another aisle where there's no cameras and open this and I act like a regular customer. It was eyelashes and nails. I was calling my girlfriend and I told that it was a cereal when I was >> So, what do you need done? >> Huh? Uh, well, we've got we're going to check make sure she's got here. All I had so far was the tainer. I haven't even got that installed. >> Okay. You saw those specific items? >> Those specific items. And then while I was at the register with my employee up there, uh I saw her take the power bank, and then she backed out of the line, went down an aisle, and she stole it. Okay. >> I watched her open this. I watched her open up a bunch of nails. >> The Did she discard the box? Yep. She's discarded the box. >> Where did she discard the box at? >> Uh, aisle seven. >> At this point, she has started [music] to see that there was nothing she could do to prevent the inevitable. Being a seasoned thief, she had to come up with something, anything, even if it meant playing the victim card. >> Do you understand each of these rights that I have explained to you? Having these rights in minds, do you wish to talk to me? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, >> my grocery the carton has my clothes that this girl stole last night and I ended up with like three bags of clothes in a little teeny bag. >> We're going to we're going to talk about why you're here at CVS. >> Okay. >> I'm starving. You know what I'm saying? I was at 1629 um Elizabeth Street, the Mitchum. Remember I was telling you Mitchum Apartments where I was staying the guy? He had brain cancer and he needed help and I needed a place cuz the hurricane was coming and somebody told me that he needed somebody like to do the grocery shopping and he doesn't get food stamps. So, I split what I had. I had to use my money and my SSI check to make sure that he ate too because he his sister paid his way and he moved into a more expensive unit and I couldn't do it. I was paying my old check. It was 700 and change. Now I get eight since the race. Does it have a code or anything? >> No, you just swipe up. >> As the encounter dragged on, her explanations became harder and harder to follow. The more she talked, the less sense she made, turning what might have been a simple admission into a stream of rambling statements that only weakened her side further. >> Did you ever pick up >> you were supposed to get my stuff from petties and you didn't? I lost everything again. >> Did you ever go by the police department, pick up your stuff? >> No. They said you never put it in there. They told me it was there. Trust me. You said you would. >> By then, the emotional outbursts were doing nothing to change the outcome. Officers had already heard enough, and every additional argument only reinforced that the situation wasn't going away, no matter how loudly she protested. >> I can't have all the sodas. >> They can't You can't take anything to drink with anything. >> I can't drink. [snorts] I like that you brought your Arby's with you, brother. Come on over here real quick. I got a s I got a search. You going to have anything on you? No, sir. >> Okay. Do you got a um Illinois license or you can keep that? It's just a little guy. It's no big deal. Michigan, the laws are different than out here, right? Are you from Michigan? Got to make sure y'all didn't take nothing from Alta. Did you take anything at Alta? You said what? >> I don't know. I missed. >> A search of the vehicle quickly shifted the direction of the case once officers began recovering items connected to the theft became clear that the stop was [music] no longer about suspicion, but confirming what had already been said in plan. >> Um, >> it's going to be like three turquoise colored boxes. What I saw, one gift set and two bottles. >> Yeah, let me I got there's Daisy by Marc Jacobs. There's the three turquoise items. And then there is a thing says fame. the couture edition. Raban, I don't know, man. I don't know your high-end product. >> Same couture. Okay, >> let me see here. Hold on one sec. I'm going to try and send photos while we're on the phone. I don't know how it's going to work. >> So, I just got to call Weeden and the store over there saw him in the in the store and they're looking at video right now and he's uh is looking to see if there's any. They were for sure at the Weeden store. >> Okay. They were for sure at the Ween store. >> Yes. >> Okay. I sent it to you. It says delivered. So, >> okay. That baby might be from Weeden as well as that F might be from Weeden, too. >> Okay. >> Uh, but for those three turquoes, I got on video clear selection and concealment >> of which ones? What's the dollar amount on that one? >> Uh they're each about $100 each. >> Okay. >> So, it's about 300 bucks right there. >> Okay. >> All right. Yeah. Let me know on that. >> Um >> you somehow run them back to the store and you can just scan it at the register, get you an exact receipt. >> Yeah, I could do that. Um >> Okay. And I'll give them a heads up that to expect police for for that. >> Okay, perfect. Yeah, I'm just doing a quick search of a car here real quick and trying to get everything else. So, all right, brother. Well, um I'll uh you'll give me a video and all that. >> Yeah, I got that working on download right now. I'll email it over to you and the store will get you the receipt and then that should be good, right? >> Oh, yeah. You know what? He had a little bottle of uh ocean. Oh, never mind. It says by Bath and Body Works. Never mind. >> All right. So, >> all right. Thank you, man. I'll talk to you later. With physical evidence now matching what store [music] employees had reported, there was no room left for explanations or denials. At that point, officers moved forward with formal action, bringing the encounter to its inevitable conclusion. You had the little in the middle, too. >> No, that's not yours. >> I don't know. >> All right. Are you going to have anything else on your person? >> You said what? Okay. How long have you had the turtle? >> Oh, okay. >> No, I don't think it's stolen. >> Yeah. on me. >> I'll stay with him. Can you just put her in your >> You got to hang on, brother. You didn't have anything on your on you see up here real quick. >> It's cold. What's up? >> It was a little in the car. What's going on? >> Huh? Stone car. >> Yeah, but at the end of the day, why is you got me still sitting outside? I'm not familiar. >> Hold on. Just pocket it for now. I can't see what that is. my eyes all up. >> So what? >> Okay. Yeah, I'll need those. >> So what's what y'all about to do early? >> She just got to come back to the station. That's all. So >> where yall station at? >> Not far. It's like 5 minutes from here. Not even. >> So you didn't say nothing in the store. >> Cameas came. What inside the car is yours in terms of like >> there's some a little bit too. Is that yours? >> You said what? >> In the car, too. >> No, I don't have >> You said what? >> I didn't have no pills on this side. >> Okay, I got you. >> I got you. My side was in your door, sir. >> Okay. All right, man. All right. Um Yeah. All right. Well, unfortunately, I got to take you to the laws. You can't have like that package like that in in Illinois. Do you know that? >> Packed like what? Sir, >> like not dispensary. >> I I He just told me. I didn't know this. I We bought it. I bought the from from a dispensary. A dispensary in our in Grand Rapids. They give it to you some sometimes they give the packages and they got some in there. >> Man, they never put that They never put that in in a in a sandwich bag. >> Put them in. Don't put them in a bag, sir. I ain't going to lie to you. I ain't trying to do nothing. >> No, you're fine. >> You got to turn all the way. I'll get it for you, buddy. >> We'll grab all your purse. I'll get it for you. >> I know. It's so dumb. >> I know, man. I know. It's so stupid. >> Just hold on for that. I'll just see if my guys are close. We need to wrap that up. >> I wouldn't like that, man. >> I know. It's all It's all good, man. when I come to the wrong place like yard like you. >> No, we just don't take well when people steal in our town and stuff. >> I don't steal nothing, bro. >> All right, I know >> you see me steal. >> No, I didn't see you. >> Yeah, I'll I'll see if I can get someone to come. >> Yeah, I'll get it. Hold on one second. >> In the end, only the woman was charged with retail theft. She attempted to deny involvement [music] and maintain her innocence. But surveillance footage and recovered evidence ultimately told a different story, leaving no doubt [music] about what had actually occurred. Similar to the case where denial collapsed the moment evidence came into play. This next shoplifter [music] believed that she had slipped past security unnoticed, only to find officers already waiting for her in the parking lot the moment she walked out. >> Huh? >> Where's your receipt? I have a I have target paying me was stupid. >> No, you were stealing. >> I didn't steal. That's what I'm saying. >> On August the 1st, 2025 in Streamwood, Illinois, officers responded to a target after reports of an active shoplifting. The shoplifter was a woman who, for some reason, was bold enough to return just hours after stealing from the same store. She had come for a second round because she was quite confident that she had cracked the store's security code. >> Pay for yourself. >> Huh? >> Pay for yourself. Not for >> Where's your receipt? >> I have a I have a target pay. >> Got an ID on you. >> Oh, of course it is convenient. >> Come see the sergeant first. >> What you want to do? >> Get your ID out. >> It's not here. Where is it at? >> Where's your car at? >> Across the street. Nope. >> That was not yours. >> No, this is where I'm at. >> What happened? >> You didn't pick yourself. >> So, if I need to go do my seat, that's what I can do. >> What do you mean? What's your first name? >> How'd you pay with it? If my phone, >> how did you pay with it? That's what that's why I'm asking. >> Apple Pay gang like if I'm l phone just it was Apple Pay like where I could go like this and that's why I telling you like my phone just >> Oh, they're telling us other way. So, >> okay. Well, how can anything go through with it? Like if I'm like, okay, you had a charger in your phone in your car. I don't. >> Okay. >> All right. Go >> clear your phone. >> What's today? >> You know what day is today? >> Friday. >> What's today? Cook County. >> Yep. >> You're not worried about Cook County? I'm not saying I'm not worried about Cook County, but like >> Hold on. Hold on. >> So, put me in the car. >> We will. Don't worry. >> Grab my grab. >> Right. So, then grab my phone. You going to put me in the front seat? >> Uh, no. >> So, that being said, >> no, listen. >> Is it going to listen or No. >> I'm listening. What's up? >> Somebody I'm What? >> You drinking? >> No. I'm >> sure smells like >> Wait. [snorts] Hey, can you roll down my window? >> He said what? >> Roll down my window. >> Hold on. I got you right now. >> From her smug demeanor, it was clear that she thought that she could outsmart the cops like she did the store's loss prevention team the first time she came stealing. Granted, she was smart, but probably not smart enough. >> We're going to get you back to station in just a little bit. So what that mean? >> Wait. Come back, Amaya. Am Amino, come back. Wait. >> I know you're intoxicated, so your uh timeline is messed up. >> So that being said, for my people birthday. No, let me talk. >> Let me talk. >> You're just screaming at me and I'm trying to answer your question >> cuz Okay, let me talk first. >> Answer your question. >> Can I talk first? >> Sure. I was trying to answer you but scream at me somewhere. >> That had nothing to do with me here. If y'all didn't get the person right then and there have nothing to do with me. >> You're under arrest for uh >> for retail and um >> that quite freaks me. That still have nothing to do with me. >> Right. The cart you pushed out with all the >> nothing to do with me. >> Okay. What is your name? >> Y know my name. Try to take me here and don't know my name. What's my name? >> You never told me your name. So here, tell me your name either. Let's go down there. >> Okay. I'm not going to tell you. Y'all going to have to call your sergeant for me to talk to him. >> Well, you want me to do your property? She didn't put her NAME DOWN. >> OKAY. WELL, I'M SAYING what I said. >> So, >> quite frankly, call your sergeant to get my property from you, right? >> What do you need a sergeant for? cuz I see it cuz y'all arrest people on their own. >> Hold up. Hold up. You're going too far. Hold on. >> No, I ain't going too far. >> I got to take these off. Not right now. >> I'm going to take them off. You're going to take a seat. All right. >> I'm going to take my seat. But like I said, like I just told his >> Uhhuh. >> arresting the wrong person. Hold his hand. >> Hold up. Hold on. Hold on. >> Let me twist my arm. >> Twist. Oh, >> I'm going to take it off from you. >> Twist it. >> What do you want me to twist it for? >> You can take it off. >> I don't have to twist it. Take a seat. >> Realizing that she had been caught with no room for escape, she snapped, going full berserk and revealing her true colors. >> Quite frankly, if you put me in the system right now, >> they going to tell you nerd. It ain't even you. >> You ass. I hate pink people. >> Pink people. >> Pink. >> Okay. >> You're brown just like me. What? >> Pink people. >> Yeah. >> You people. >> Mhm. >> Make life hard. >> Yeah. >> Y'all don't like black people for real. >> Y don't like FOR REAL. SO I DON'T KNOW HOW you working with you. >> YOU'RE >> BUT QUITE FRANKLY, SHUT UP AND LET ME TALK. >> NO, YOU'RE BEING QUITE >> YOU'RE BEING prejudice to me. >> YOU'VE BEEN SCREAMING AT ME SINCE YOU MET. [screaming] >> Let me talk. Like I said, >> can you talk without screaming at me? >> I'm going to talk. >> Okay. But you're going to let me talk first. >> Go ahead. >> I have nothing against you. >> That's good. That means me and you're going to get along, right? >> Cuz personally, my grandpa is Mexican. >> That's good. >> I'm Mexican black. You ain't did nothing to me. You did your job. But this whole person >> quite frankly, y'all are deporting people. >> I'm deporting people. >> Your kind is deporting people. >> So, that being said, >> WHAT'S MY KIND? >> SHUT UP. LET ME TALK. I'M ASKING >> LET ME TALK. >> WILL YOU PAUSE AGAIN? >> I SAID LET me talk. >> Okay. Go ahead. >> Go ahead and talk. >> You pink. >> Uhhuh. >> Because the Trump pink red >> are the poor people again. I'm not talking to you and you know quite frankly I'm not talking to you. That's why you're smiling and laughing. >> You're being told [screaming] >> I'm not talking to you. >> Right. You're just being president. SO, ARE YOU ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME YOUR NAME OR NOT? >> What do you think? >> I'm not talking to you now. Say that to me. >> And I am cuz I don't like white people because y'all is racist. >> That's unfortunate. >> All your white is racist. >> Frankly, there's really nothing against you. >> But my granny my granny was picking cotton in Arkansas. So, she racist. So she raised me. So therefore, I DON'T LIKE WHITE PEOPLE. >> HELLO. >> You and your people. >> You and your grand. >> Oh, her last name. Hold up. >> And cut right. >> S P A N. >> So therefore, you need to figure the [ __ ] out. >> Yeah. All right. >> She's brown just like me. So you like I was going to be mad at her. You pink. YOU SEE HOW YOU turn red? >> I can't. >> Right. >> I'm going to take it off. All right. >> Don't do stupid. >> I'm not. YOU BROWN JUST LIKE ME. >> Hold on, man. >> You know, >> pronounce it however you want. >> Man, no. Tell me how you say your name. >> I don't care. >> Put your hands on the snow. Do you have anything that comes to take care of me? >> No. SO Y'ALL Y'ALL Y YOUR mother detaining me was stupid. >> No, you were stealing. >> I didn't steal [ __ ] That's what I'm saying. >> All right, let her do let her do her thing and then we go. >> In the end, she was charged with retail theft. Just like the previous case where denial collapsed the moment evidence was shown. This next situation follows the same pattern. Now we have Ashley, who kept stealing toothpaste and toothbrushes like she had a hoarding problem, completely unaware that she was already on the officer's radar. >> There's going to be video of you taking this property and putting it in that bag. >> I'm not sure. >> Okay, >> kids. You know, I have to edit this just I was just too busy. So, >> on the 24th of July, 2025, a woman walked into a Walmart with her boyfriend and was immediately flagged by loss prevention from a past incident. After quietly swapping carts and ditching the first, the couple drifted off camera until she reappeared at checkout, slipping items into her bag as if no one was [music] watching. Security had eyes on her the whole time and held the line until officers showed up to end the performance. >> So, here's here's why. I just saw my outside. >> They're inside right now. They're going they're paying for the stuff that's in their cart, but she has stuff in her bag. >> Okay. >> So, she's in there. This is one person. >> Uh is it just her that she concealed it? But she supposedly in line. She's got stuff in a bag seal, but they're paying for other stuff. This is the Oh, ma'am. >> Any stuff for us, please? >> Huh? >> Um, do you have anything in your bag that you can pay for? >> No. >> Can we see your bag? >> Huh? >> Can you see your bag? >> My bag? >> Yes. >> You will see an on camera concealing items in your bag. If there's nothing in there, there's a huge misunderstanding. Okay. If there is stuff in there that you didn't pay for it, then we're going to have a problem. >> But what if it's not from? >> Well, they can prove whether or not it's from here. And if it's not paid for, there's video of you concealing items. So, if it matches what's in there, >> we're not playing games. >> So, it's not open up for debate. >> Yeah. >> Yes. Bag. But what if it, like I said, I came from another Walmart >> and if if it if >> and if it it rings like that, would I be able to Well, how would I >> Mr. You know how people? >> Yeah. But like I said, if um it if it they prove that and how would I >> do you have you have ID handy? No. >> 91. >> No. >> What's my name? >> Yeah, that's about it. I didn't take nothing. >> What about this one? >> You can take it if you want. I don't care. Like I said, >> it's not from like >> it's it's from Walmart itself. So even if it you know what I mean? Even if it's the same stuff from another store, you know. >> So even if >> like you know what I mean? >> What's your name? >> Ashley. >> Ashley. Okay. There's cameras everywhere. There's one right behind us. >> Yeah, I know. So, >> but but I know that that aisles, the back aisles that they they found me bag cuz I was delivering for candy >> and everything and it looked like it >> is this stuff is this stuff on that receipt. >> On this receipt, guys, >> okay, cuz it cuz it never went through the scanner, right? No. >> Okay. So, by what they're telling us, there's going to be video of you taking this property and putting it in that bag. >> I'm not sure. >> It's going to be a 55 and a 51. He's just a 51. >> Okay. >> I'm not sure. >> You're not so sure? >> Yeah, because I was right there the whole time. >> What? >> I was right there the whole time. So, it don't make sense. This is from another Walmart, but if y if it's if they want to they want to say that that's from here, they can take it. I don't care. >> Her only move was pretending she wasn't the problem. But just as she walked in with a game plan, the officers arrived at the strategy that she was not ready for. >> Again, you're failing toize the fact that you're on video. So if you're on video, >> that's what I'm saying. I open my bag and it looks like it look like that. before it looked like that. >> So, you took this off the shelf here and put it in that bag. >> No, I I didn't I didn't No, I didn't go no freaking I was I had another shopping cart >> literally from the last and I put everything back. >> Do me a favor. Take your bag off. >> Mhm. >> Take your bag off. >> Put your phone in there. >> You want your phone in the bag? >> Yeah. You hold the bag. >> Turn around for me. >> Turn around. >> You're being placed in handcuffs. >> Why? >> You're under arrest for shoplifting. I >> didn't. No, you are. >> I didn't though. I didn't >> put your handcuffs up. >> Can you make the video? No, >> we have the video. >> You have anything on you that's going to stick me, poke me, cut me, or hurt me? >> Any needles, knives, weapons, anything like that? half in your bonnet. Thank you very >> He's not under arrest. You are. He is being trespassed from the property. Okay. That's why he has right now. You want her in your car? Do >> you want her in her in your car? >> Okay. So, we're going to step out here. We're going to go sit in my partner's car. What's your name? >> Ashley. Okay. Walk with me, please. >> He said that everything in the car was paid for, though. >> I'm sorry. >> I didn't take anything. All those items that my partner pulled out of your purse? >> Yes, but I didn't see that. >> So, they just magically appeared in there. >> No, I I >> Okay. Did you pay for them? >> I had if I could show you something, maybe you >> did you pay for them? It's a simple yes or no. Either you paid for those items or you didn't. >> Yeah, but they're saying that I have they have a video, >> right? Walmart. No, you cannot. >> That would make no sense. >> Well, What's yours? You have my bag. >> Open his car. >> Can I Can you at least give me a chance to prove myself now? >> If we'll check the receipt compared to what you have compared to what you paid for as to what you did what was in your bag. And if the items that were in your bag are on that receipt, >> the house, but where are you going to take me? I'm I'm >> I never been arrested before anything, man. >> So, it depends. My partner's going to make that decision whether he transport you to the jail or if he issues you a notice to appear. >> Huh? >> Right there. >> So, like I just said, it'll be up to my partner whether he takes you to jail and transports you and books you for the shoplifting or he may release you with a notice to appear. So, you have to give him a few minutes. >> You'll be able to talk to him in a few minutes. Yes. But that's not going to be decided right at this point. Right now, you're going to have a seat. No. Back at the seat of this car. in a few minutes. Hide a seat, Miss Ashley. >> Step down. Turn around. Butt first. Turn around. Sit. Butt first. >> How do you do that? I'm >> sorry. Just push back. You can use this curb here with your feet. Push your butt back in the seat. Can you help me? >> Sure. Put your feet on the curb. That'll give you some elevation. Push back. All right. Put your feet up. Put this foot up in the curb and turn this way. Turn towards the left. The officers trespassed the boyfriend and gathered more information about her, including the surveillance footage of her little shopping adventure. Not long after, the female officer returned to the cruiser to get her details. That was when things took a sharp left turn. One question in and the whole situation cracked open into another messy discovery. >> Thanks, bud. >> Um, what was the total amount? >> Uh, it was 3648. >> Um, okay. And you do want to prosecute? >> Yeah. >> And does he have a copy of that receipt? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Thank you. Ashley, what's your local address? >> Can I Can I please talk to him? >> So, he's inside. You're not going to be able to talk to him at this point, but you will have an opportunity to talk to him, >> please. >> What is your What is your local address? >> Um, >> how long have you lived there? >> Only for a few months. >> I'm sorry. >> Only for a few months. 13 months. >> No, few. >> Oh, a few months. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And who is that gentleman to you? >> That's my boy. My Well, my baby my my >> your boyfriend. >> My boyfriend, but my kid died. >> Your children's father. Y'all live together. >> We live with my mom. >> He lives with your mother. >> No, I I live with my mom. >> Oh, you live with your mom. Got it. Where does she stay at? He come from New York. >> So he's just down here visiting. Um >> yeah, technically. >> What was that? >> Technically. Yeah. >> So he's staying with you right now. >> Yeah. >> While he's visiting? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It's just I I really really really need Okay. If I could talk to this if I >> How many kids do you guys have in common? >> We have three. >> Three kids. How old are they? >> One, two, six. 1, two, and six. Where are they at right now? >> In the house. >> Who are they with? >> With my sister. >> With your sister. How'd you guys get here? >> We We [music] walked. >> You walked. How are you going to get all those groceries home? >> I was going to see if my mom could call. >> So, how are you planning on getting all the groceries that you paid for home? I was going to call to see if my mom could get us a cab >> to call your mom. >> Yeah, >> your mom drives. >> Yeah, but right now um I was going to see if she could get us a cab. >> See if what? I'm sorry. >> If she could get us a cab. >> I couldn't hear what you said. >> See if we could get a cab. >> Oh, see if you can get a ride. Got it. Like a Uber or something. >> Yeah. because I this is my first time on another. If I could talk to your partner, please. >> Okay. >> Excuse me. >> Yeah. >> If I could if I could talk to him and and explain, you know, >> when they're done doing what they need to do inside, they'll come out and you'll have your opportunity to talk to them. Okay. >> Yeah. Please. is [laughter] I really um yeah I just you know the stuff that I got is for my kids you know I can't with the situation that I'm going through at home so you know it's not a good >> somehow she genuinely thought that she could finesse her way out of the trap that she built with her own greed but while she was playing checkers the officers were playing chess and every move she made only proved that she had no idea how badly she was already cornered. >> Thank you. >> Hi. >> Hi. >> Can Can I talk to you? >> Yeah. Can I talk to all you guys, please? >> All right. Let me I'm going to scoot over here in the shade. Car is hot. >> Is it like this? >> I want the AC to crank, but I won't be able to hear you. What do you got? What do you want to say? >> Oh. Oh. Um. >> Huh? >> I um I wanted to talk to the the chief. >> Speak up a little bit. >> I I wanted to talk to the chief. >> Talk to the chief. >> Yeah. They say uh I'll be able to talk to the talk to someone. >> All right. We don't have a chief. Who do you want to talk to? I want to talk to anyone. I care right now >> so I could get, you know, I can't explain myself, you know, and I never been arrested before. And I I don't I don't you know what I mean? I don't want no no problem. I want to be able to go back home to my kids and you know [snorts] if I could be with a war or something. I never I never did that like this before. >> Real quick, what's your >> Sorry, I just have a problem at home. >> What is your last name? >> Yeah. Yes. I don't have a Florida um nothing Florida. >> Oh, excuse me. Would I be able to talk to the guy? >> What? >> Would I be able to talk to the guy? >> You be able to what? >> Talk to the guy. >> Talk to what guy? >> They told me the the the person who's doing the investigation. >> It's me and my partner. What >> would I not be able to talk to? >> It's me and my partner. What do you want to say? >> I just, you know, I really want to get back home. >> Okay. >> Like this, you know, do anything. I'll do anything. >> Ashley, do me a favor. Talk normally. Okay. >> I can't understand the whimpering. >> Don't do anything. Don't do anything to get rid of the toys of the police. [laughter] >> We're beyond that. Okay. You're getting the charge. All right. That's happening. You're going to get charged with the retail theft. It's whether or not you take a ride to jail. I'm still trying to figure out, but that's not anything that you can beg or ask your way out of. So what I mean >> before I never did that before just I was just so patient too patient and so frustrated. Please. Meanwhile, while she thought she was winning sympathy points and talking her way into softer ground, the officer was quietly taking her details and figuring out the cleanest, quickest way to handle someone [music] exactly like her. >> Excuse me, sir. Am I allowed to do a phone call? >> Um, I'm not allowed to do a phone call. >> Okay, just give us a second. Just one at a time. Okay, watch. Can you can you help me? >> Yes, I'm going to help you just one time. Just fist this way. >> Got it. Yeah. Move. Yep. Keep moving. Okay. Got it. Yep. Little bit more. All right. One foot down side. Say she so you know you cannot come back to this Walmart. You know that you can go to a different one but not this one. >> No >> up to a year. Okay. You and your boy. You and your friend. >> Okay. Stop. >> Can I spend a little more here? >> H >> Can Can I spend a little more here with you? >> Yes, you can stay. >> I don't know. I mean, it's cuz people star in my face. I look >> No, just ignore that. Ignore that. We're going to We'll be done soon. Okay. Thank you. >> Anytime. Actually, hopefully stuff like that don't happen to you anymore. Okay. >> That was stupid. >> Hopefully you learn your lesson. Okay. >> Yeah. No, that was stupid. >> Nothing happened. >> I'm so sorry. >> That's okay. >> Picture for the >> No, let me just take it now. >> Can you just fix me right quick? I'm just going to take a picture of you. Okay. Thank you, Ashley. Do you smell? There's somebody nearby. >> Does it usually feel like that? It hurts. >> It hurts. >> Yeah. >> Well, it's a lesson and an experience. Okay. Hopefully, you know your lesson. >> No. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah, it does. Yeah. >> Never again. Never again. >> Thanks. I've been honestly. >> Yeah. That was stupid. Just Okay, let's put on your head. >> All right. Just give us a second actually. We know. >> Thank you madam. You're welcome. >> Thank you to come closer. >> So you have a code. So on this right >> you have a code. If you fail to if you don't show up to that day to that code date, they're going to issue a warning for your hours. Okay. >> So, you're gonna have to come. All right. >> I'm done. >> All right.
