columbus division of police officers
zachary rosen and jason bear
shot and killed henry green
at the corner of duxbury road in ontario
street in the north linden neighborhood
of columbus ohio
at the time of the shooting the officers
were working a plane closed assignment
and driving an unmarked car
this circumstance drew increased
scrutiny to the shooting
as it very well should have
unfortunately
the narrative that quickly spread
throughout the public
was so full of inaccuracies lies and
misinformation that the public became
incredibly angry in 2017 when the
officers were cleared by a grand jury
when i speak of inaccuracies lies and
misinformation i would like to direct
your attention to this article that was
posted in the mockingbird in 2016.

i would like to specifically direct your
attention to this paragraph that says
facts
not in dispute
henry greene was walking with a friend
at 6 30. henry green was in his own
neighborhood and legally armed henry
green's weapon was registered and he had
a permit to carry concealed a white suv
containing two plainclothes police pull
up
they'd jump out and scream stop stop
stop then shot him dead
neither had a badge on display
they did not identify themselves as
police
every eyewitness to the event has
publicly come forward and said the same
thing
from a perspective of pure facts
nothing is in dispute except for by the
two men who pulled the trigger
i would like you to listen to this small
clip
of an interview done the night of the
shooting where detectives were speaking
to a woman who watched the shooting
through her kitchen window
can you just kind of tell me what what
you heard then since you were inside uh
i was sitting down eating
just at the bite of a fry and heard the
gunshots
looked out the window the young guy was
shooting at the officers they started
shooting back he hit the ground
okay so the young guy was shooting at
the officers

and you saw him shooting at the officer
or what did you see when you came
outside i didn't come
okay so you saw this young kid shooting
and the police shooting

were these officers in uniform or were
they in plain clothes
playing clothes but they have their
match okay
or were they playing closely
playing clothes but they have their
match

on april 26 2022 the officers were found
not guilty in federal court
now that the investigations and trial
are finally over the public can now see
the evidence gathered and i can present
it in a way that clearly shows the
officers acted legally and within policy
and were rightly cleared of any wrong
doing

the officers testified that the incident
began when they were driving westbound
on east 26th avenue when they approached
the intersection of ontario street
they observed two males crossing the
street the first man later identified as
henry green was wearing a red tank top
and black shorts
the other was wearing a black or dark
colored shirt
the man in the red shirt walked towards
the officer's vehicle and lifted his
shirt to display a black pistol he had
in his front waistband
officer rosen stated he believed the man
was about to attempt a carjacking so he
drove out of the area quickly
officer rosen stated he looked in the
rearview mirror as he drove away and saw
mr green pointing the pistol at his
vehicle
the officers continued westbound on east
26th avenue then turned northbound on
gerbert road
while airing the description of the man
with a gun

i just pulled a 33 on us we are swinging
around the block
they then turned onto duxbury avenue
and drove towards the intersection of
duxbury and ontario street
as they approached the intersection two
men were standing in the middle of the
roadway facing westbound towards them
officer rosen stated he pulled the
vehicle up to the intersection and
stopped five to seven feet away from the
men
as they were stopping the suspect lifted
his reddish shirt and pulled the gun
from his waistband
the officers stated they exited their
vehicle guns drawn announced they were
the police and ordered the man to drop
his weapon
the man pointed his weapon at the
officers and began to fire
shots fired
10-3 on 64-10 shots fired

the investigation revealed that mr green
fired six rounds at the officers
striking their vehicle
six times
three of the projectiles were fired at
an upward angle
indicating that mr green was still
firing his weapon as he fell to the
ground
mr green did not have a concealed
weapons permit and the weapon he was
carrying
a 45 caliber glock model 30
had been reported stolen in 2012.
the investigation also found that mr
green was highly intoxicated with a
blood alcohol content of .13
the other man on the street that day was
a man named christian rutledge
christian was the man the officer saw
walking with mr green
who was wearing a black shirt
mr rutledge had been walking with mr
green prior to the interaction with the
police
he was also the only witness to see the
incident from start to finish
after the shooting he was transported to
columbus police headquarters where he
was interviewed by a detective

happened today

being charged with anything

so i just like to talk to you

you're a witness to what happened yes

i was i was walking out trying to call
my cousin but what time was that when i
called my cousin i'm like
three four around that time and your

don't really know his real name
because he ain't really my cousin we
just call each other that was about

i mean i caught him and told him uh
asked him where he said he was ontario
chilling with a couple of friends of
ours
so i'm like okay i'm about to come down
there came down here
then i'm like i'm about to walk back up
the 21st so he's like all right i'll
walk with you so my 21st
i'm telling my people i don't know i
guess he got mad at somebody on 21st so
he was like
yeah he got mad at my 21st but just a
different application like so i told him
i was already going to walk him home
anyway i'm walking home because he
walked me up here so i'm walking them
home
and then i guess when you get on 26 the
car that had the police in it i guess
they uh when they he had just kept
walking because he's still so mad that
he for like he just different didn't
care about the they was
oh no he was drunk like he's already
drunk before i got there he was drinking
yeah he was drunk before i got there so
i don't know what was happening
so when when the car was hit him he was
like wait wait i get i didn't see
anything i was on my phone at the time
then i guess that when we got to i guess
the police they said putting it out at
that time i'm like i ain't seen nothing
we get to 20 we get to 20 um duxbury i'm
walking ahead of him though because i'm
on my way to my uh where are you so
you're walking towards london or
whatever we're walking up
up ontario and you're at duxbury like
going yeah i'm going toward
like if you're going towards i'm going
towards hamilton oh
so i turned like i'm going towards
hellmuth but they had stopped him ahead
of time so which way would you guys like
coming like saying when you were walking
on ontario were you like coming like if
you were coming from hudson no we were
coming from 21st from 21st so so you're
walking north on ontario you get to
duxbury and then you start to turn like
you're going towards hamilton yep i
started something i was watching because
why were you going that way because
that's what my honest thing i was
dropping him off so they cut us late so
i'll walk i'm just walking faster than
him before i'm saying so how far do you

everything happen from that point
because i'm looking to see the car again
so i hear him say i'm like what

in the car i seen the cup see the cop
like this so i'm like the by the
time i turn around i ain't nothing again

that i'm like what the is he

it's armored to my aunt's house because
that's where he live like go to my ass
let him know like i don't know what's
going on i stopped like right in the
yard and i turn around and i see them
just laying there so i'm banging on the
door like told my aunt like they just
shot buddy they just shot bubby and i
just now noticing like it's police like
it's almost like the police shot bubbies
like now i cannot saying it's a random
apparently it's the police now it's the
police because when i first she's like
who i'm like i don't know not leaving
him like it's the police okay for sure

we talked to some other people that were
out there okay
and some people that were with
but maybe with you guys prior to
and they said that they knew he had a
gun yeah i didn't know i just walked
from 21st to go meet him
so when i came when i was like where did
you meet him at ontario where they all
was chilling at like
like uh north of gunsberry like yeah
like you had to cross duxbury yeah and
you go up and there's that house right
here on the alley yeah it's on the south
side of the street your house right
there yeah so he was already there yeah
he was already there i haven't made a
phone call and it's going over there to
go chill okay that's all i was doing i
was on my way back to 21st well
we had several people tell us that he
did have a gun

but you never seen him pull the gun out
i didn't see him pull it out until like
maybe when i noticed when he got the
ducks buried and i know it was like this
so they said he had his arm out he had
his arm like that i wasn't really paying
attention i'm more focused on typically
those people
like that yeah you got it good yeah i
was more focused on the cops like so i'm
like why the are they just drawing
on him and not me like what the
going on like i'm just confused it's
like everything focused
they weren't they were like
pointing their guns
at him looking at him
yeah that's what i'm looking like what
the is going on like i didn't know
what's going on like if i was confused
as then when i heard a gunshot shot
yeah just like
like any horrible person like
and then i'll look turn back see why cuz
i'm like
okay that's the first thing i think of
like it's the first person that's there

we heard that he was carrying the gun
because he had gotten into it with
somebody earlier maybe not that day
maybe a couple days ago he got in a
fight with somebody did he uh no i mean
i mean it's okay i know i know i got
into a fight with somebody on that
street but before i practice what was
that that was like two or three days ago
but that was like as mutual friends like
me and another friend and we ain't
really fight we just arguing like
well supposedly he he
he was asked why well well
supposedly he was carrying a gun because
he had gotten a fight with somebody and
and maybe whooped up on him a little bit
he was worried that somebody
i don't even come out the house like
that i don't know i guess it's a friend
like i kick it away like if all my
people ain't on because i'm usually on
21st so it went nobody on 21st that day
so i'm like you're like i'll go over
here yeah let's go
how long do you know him i'm hey i know
him since with his kids because he used
to live on ducks very dumb just down
that street and whereas i stay at yeah
that's his second time moving here he
used to live down the street a little
bit for towards hillary clinton when i
lived on gerber when he was like

like four people in here so i'm thinking
