What is this big bottle of stuff that I seen you >> Oh, it's courage. >> Courage, huh? I don't think that's where it comes from. Turn your car off. >> Oh, I will in a minute. >> No, do it right now. >> Oh. I know. You sure? >> Turn your car off. >> Oh, okay. >> Look at how uncoordinated she looks. >> Do you have your ID? >> ID about what? >> Your driver's license. >> Oh, yeah. Oh, that's right. I get it. We're in 2025. >> There you are. >> Okay. >> If I were be driving through a parking lot and I saw a woman parked in a running car in the driver's seat sucking on a bottle of nitrous oxide, my very first thing I think of is I'm going to arrest her for DUI. Like she is using a substance with a very significant impairment potential. I'm going to get her out. I'm going to put her through the standardized field sobriety test battery as quick as I can. I'm going to throw the Romberg modified, maybe the finger to nose on it. Place her under arrest as long as there are signs and symptoms that are consistent with impairment and I'm going to draw her blood as quick as I possibly can. Because nitrous oxide is very fast-acting in the body. Um in the drug recognition expert manual, inhalants is an entire section of just drugs that you inhale. And it goes from amyl nitrate to nitrous oxide to gasoline. There's all sorts of things that you can inhale to get high or to feel impaired. Spray paint's in there. Airplane glue is in there. All sorts of stuff. They're all very fast-acting. Some a little bit longer than others, but they're all out of your body quickly. So, to process someone for impaired driving under a an inhalant um like whippets, you've got a you've got to get your probable cause for arrest and you need to draw their blood as quickly as you can and then have it specially tested by a lab that that knows and understands inhalants in the blood. So, it's it is definitely I've only done a handful of inhalant DUIs during my 25 years of being a a deputy sheriff and 20 years as being a drug recognition expert. Um it's here in Arizona. It's not a frequent violation that we see, but when you see it, you got to process it quick. So, I'm kind of curious to see where this is going to go.
