We're just going to grab the guns and get out of there. Kill everybody in the lane. >> Here are disturbing cases of homicide suspects filming their crimes. Starting with Jonathan Robinson, a cold-blooded criminal who took the life of his children's mother on live stream, all over a simple apology to his girlfriend. They don't worry about the police right now. Jonathan's new girlfriend, Sherekica, wasn't pleased with his ties to Reanita, sparking a fiery online crash where Reita went online saying it was Jonathan who wanted her back and maybe she couldn't handle the truth. Fueled with rage, Jonathan [music] stormed into Reanita's home, demanding an apology she refused to give. Moments later, he returned armed, holding Reanita, her brother, and her mother hostage until one desperate escape changed everything. >> Can you send the police at 1301 Nadlin? >> 131 N [laughter] cuz they Jonathan L. >> Okay. >> 1301 Nadlin Street. >> Okay. Like I said, they're on the way. If you could just say, you know, just stay where you are safely. Let me know what's going on so I can relay the information to the officers. >> Okay. >> As officers raced to the scene, Jonathan forced Reita to go live and apologize to Sherekica, unaware it would be the final day of her life. >> Hey y'all. >> This Noo-Noo. I apologize for J for going live on RA. I ain't had no business doing all that. Game over, >> [ __ ] >> Jonathan's world spiraled the moment cops arrived. [music] After striking Reita in front of hundreds of viewers, he found himself in a tense 80inut standoff until Shereekica stepped in to calm him down. Get up there. He's going to just go to the detective office, the top lot and uh we'll be up there to go and I'll meet you all day. Hey puppet strong. >> I love you. Right. Won't bother you no more. Okay. >> Go back to Texas. Okay. Take care of them kids. Take care of myself. >> Okay. Hear me. >> I'm going to be there. >> Got on the scale off. Me too. >> 12 hours already. >> You know this ain't what I wanted. >> I know. I'm tired. My vlogging you, man. I was so tired. I had two. >> I just didn't want nothing to happen to me. I heard the gunshots. I lost it. Lost it. I don't want nobody else hurt. You know I'm so against violence. You know that. I'mma be there for you. >> Even though I'm against what you did, I'm so far against it. I cried so many tails so far. >> Listen to me. You need to get some help. >> Haven't [snorts] I been telling you that for years? >> And them streets ain't the way to get it. >> Haven't you been on the right track since you left here? >> You hear me, Jonathan? >> Tell me Houston. I don't want nobody to bother. >> Was I worried about them? >> You wouldn't watch that. I didn't go watch it. Okay. >> I'm going to go back. >> Go back. >> But I'm I'm going to be there for you. I want you to get the help you need. >> I don't worry about my help. >> Listen, you need to do that for me. You love me though. I'm going be there for you. You going to get the help you need. You going to do the time. I ain't worried about all that. >> Them people don't Them people going to push through, >> baby. You just go >> and you going to do your time and I'm going to be there. You going to get the help you need cuz you not in your right mind. >> Do you going to get the help you need for me? >> Huh? >> Look at me. M. >> You going to get the mental health you need, right? >> Okay. I'm going to get on my medicine like I supposed to be. You wouldn't let me take it cuz you don't believe in it. But I want you to do it for me >> and I'mma do it. >> You be good. >> And I'mma be to see you today. >> Listen. I'mma be to see you. Okay. I'm not going. I got to go to the doctor today. >> You go get your milk. Lay load. I want nobody to hurt. >> These people ain't on me. I'm I'm worried about them people going to go to jail. They come for me. >> I ain't did nothing to them people. >> Go to get me to go get to you. >> I tell them people going they mess with me. So I'm going to have to do is call 911. And this stuff is so big now. Anybody do anything to me. Somebody somebody will take you now. Both maybe one. I don't know. >> I want you to go. >> I'm going to go. I mean, I'm I I don't know. >> Okay. I got to go. >> I'll be to see you today. Okay. Pay attention. Right. See you. Okay. >> Okay. He was taken to jail for interrogation and what surfaced painted him [music] as nothing less than a cold-blooded homicide suspect. >> You are you are hereby under arrest for your part in the offense of second degree murder. Explain to you. Do you wish to make state and tell this happened? You do? >> Yes. >> Okay. And I think I need to beat child first degree. >> Why? because I planned it. I knew what I was going to do. All right, we'll just start from the beginning. >> [music] >> It's like, you know, when you just say your wife, you know your wife not strong and you know people mess with your wife because they know she's not mentally stable. She know that ain't no excuse for what I did. But I didn't hurt her so much and and I just got tired of people hurting her. She going the middle stages and it's like and everybody laughing at her and I got tired of it. I told nobody laugh at you no more. I'm tired of hurting her. That ain't no excuse for what I did. hating. But man, I supposed to protect her. Supposed to protect her. My job protect her. >> Tell me what you mean by that. >> Okay, man. The girl, we have dealings. But it's like a person know if you know what push and put buttons and make them go over the edge and make them be and stuff and you still do it. It's like you have no regard for her life. You know she'll go, you know she'll take all these, you know, she'll take all these pills and herself and you want to go on social media and bash her, make her look bad and just I told her I never let nobody hurt her like that no more. I told her no more. >> What happened today? I went to I asked her why you keep doing it. I asked her, I text her. I called why stop. She wouldn't stop. I told my girl, I said, "I'mma tell her I'mma take care for you cuz she hurt and I hurt you, but she daddy won't let up and stop messing with you." >> Jonathan showed no remorse, only relief that no one would trouble Shereekica, his new girlfriend again. But when investigators pressed him for his motive, the reason left them stunned at how far he had gone for [music] something so unworthy of destroying his life. >> But what happened? >> Okay, so you get to the house. What happens? I asked her why you spitting messing with her and I told her to go live and tell her I'm told to apologize to her. Apologize to who? >> My girl. >> Okay. >> I told her apologize to her. You always want to cry. How the I want to be famous now. [ __ ] famous. Tell everybody you're sorry. Stop with her. >> And what you say? She start apologizing. And then what happened? What? Wait a minute. She was apologizing and The police came. I don't know. I think I don't know if they were trying to sneak up on me or what. I just seen him by a truck, a red truck. And we started and it's like I start then I I shot in the leg. I shot the leg. Then I again somewhere else. I can't really remember. I just know. I know, but I can't just I I know when the police I seen the police by a red truck, I sh them and I turn around and where did this happen at in the house? [snorts] >> Oh, the bedroom, the living room. I don't How? I don't I was I remember I don't know. It was in the bedroom and the living room. The first room when you walk in the front door, that room and the bedroom. >> How'd you see the police? >> I don't know. It's like when I was I don't know what I was I was going to do something. I don't know. was just like when I open the door, it's just like I seen a red truck and I seen policees and I just start What happened after that? After you shot the police, what happened after that? I think I >> I know in the leg and I don't know where I never seen no I never really seen why I just know I seen >> Did she say anything after that? During questioning, he recounted the incident without any hesitation, showing no concern for himself, only an unshakable determination to protect Sherekica, even if it cost him everything. >> All right. Well, what happened after that? >> The police from where? Like, tell me where you at the police at. >> Where were they at? Everywhere. I was so well. >> What were you using? >> What is pain? [snorts] >> How'd you get to the house? In >> my car. >> I was with you. You're by yourself. All right. So, when you get there in your car, where do you go? >> I kick a door in. Which door? >> Not the one I came out of, but the other one >> on the front of the house. >> The left one or the right one? >> The right [music] one. >> Okay. All right. So, what happens when you go in the house? Who's in there? >> Her mama. Her. And [music] I didn't know her brother was in there till she say Marcy in the closet. When I told Marcy, "Come out." >> Did you get into the closet? >> No, I wasn't. You know, it's just like it wasn't about it just was about a person hurting a person that I love dearly that I supposed to protect. >> All right. So So when you go in the house though, what do you say and where do you go and what happens? >> I go I go in her room. >> Which one is that? That's the bedroom with the back door to it. >> Okay. >> Go in that room and uh I'm still asking her like, "Why is you steady doing?" So her mama come in there. I don't know what she said, >> but she said some the gun cuz she didn't see me come in there with the gun or nothing. I didn't even know she was in there. Mhm. >> It's like when she came in when she when I heard her say something, I just the gun >> at her. >> No, I didn't never seen her. I just heard her mom. >> Yeah. >> Where did you point the gun when you >> It was like, you know, I just had it pointed at a wall or something. >> Okay. >> In the bedroom. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> I never seen it. I just heard them. I just heard I'mma call the police or something. I just shot the gun. I didn't know where she went or nothing. Jonathan had lost all hope and he made that chillingly clear to the investigators. >> And I was asking him, "Why is you steady? Why you steady bothering her? Why is you, you know, she mental state is not strong like yours is?" And she was like, "First, I didn't know. I don't know if she thought I do it because our history but then too cuz she like count herself. She was like after she kept saying [ __ ] And I'm like you really don't care though. She was like seeing my eyes. She was like Jonathan you for real. I'm like yeah man you you hurting her. You just been tearing her down. And I'm trying to build up, but you tearing her down. And it is affecting everybody, bro. And she was like, she was like, "Okay, okay." or something. And I I know when I called, I had called my girl on the phone. I told her she going to apologize to you. And she was there saying, >> "What were you talking about? You went live. What was that mean?" Okay. I think this was Sunday or something. We went live. Okay. I went live on a Facebook [ __ ] man. Stupid. She went live. I went live. She went live on Facebook talking about each other. She know I've been knowing her for probably five years and she know the buttons. I don't know, man. Oh man. >> Why were you at the police? >> I wanted to. >> Why'd you give up? >> Why' you come bullets? Ra told me to. >> She was saying what? >> Ra told me to Rico. >> With his cooperation so far, investigators went straight for the hardest question. His motive. He didn't hesitate to answer. >> Let me ask you this. Just plain and simple. Why did you shoot her? cuz she wasn't going to let me be great with Bri. She wasn't going to let me. When you walked into the house, what did you think was going to happen? I was going to >> But what what did you think was going to happen to you after that? >> You didn't care. At what point did you plan or decide that this is how you were going to handle it? Was it this morning? Was it Sunday? >> This morning when I woke up and it was standing calling my phone, texting my phone. >> She was and I told him to I just said stop. It's like It's like the only way so we can going to be be great is if she was out the way. That's how I seen it. I ain't seen no other way. How long have you and been together? [snorts] Six years or so. They got kids together. [snorts] Where'd you get the gun from? >> I've been had that gun. I haven't seen that gun in three years. >> Where was it at this morning? How'd you get it? >> How'd I get my gun? >> Yeah. >> I went up to my a house and got it. Who's your aunt, >> Lisa Robinson? What was it doing under her house? >> Cuz I've been headed for I bought it off the street and I've been headed under there. I actually forgot it was under there. >> As if things weren't already unsettling, his response about the gun was nothing short of disturbing and terrifying. >> And when did you go and get it? this morning when I went and bought me some bullets. >> Where'd you buy the bullets at? >> Porn shop on North Market. >> Which one? There's a couple right there. >> The one with all them guns in it with cash. >> Cashing. >> How many bullets you buy? >> 40. >> Is that how many comes with the box or what? >> 20 box. >> You just bought two boxes. >> Why'd you buy two boxes? cuz I want to have a police. >> Did they back at you? >> I don't know. I >> They couldn't see me. >> Why didn't you step outside then? >> Cuz I was telling everybody I love them before I go. >> You were on the phone or on Facebook Live? >> On the phone. My mama kept calling me. At what point did you run out of bullets? >> I don't even know if I ran out of bullets. >> So, what got you to stop? >> Sprinkle them. >> All right. What windows did you out of or doors or whatever? >> All of them. What were you aiming at? >> Police. >> Do you Do you remember how many officers you fired at? >> A lot of them. >> Were you aiming? >> I just was I ain't no marksman or nothing. With everything Jonathan confessed, investigators were stunned. He done it all for the woman he loved. But his response uncovered something about Sherekica. >> Telling me you you because that was the only way that your girlfriend now wouldn't be bothered by this past relationship. No. Or are they arguing back and forth? You lived in Houston up until when? When did you come back to Shreport? >> Two three days ago. >> Why'd you come out short? >> Because me that girl got into it about it. >> So over over Facebook arguing, y'all drove back to Shrior. >> So me. >> Where was she at? You there? Yeah, >> she was having a nervous breakdown. >> Why did this bother y'all so bad about whatever this whatever she was saying on Facebook? >> It didn't. You ever seen I don't know. It's like, you ever seen a person that you love so much with all your heart be hurt to the to their core? >> To their core. >> Mhm. >> I wasn't used to that. I ain't never I had to I had to literally go to Houston. I was down. My girl jumped out of her car, left her daughter in a car at the ground station and started and got out and just started walking in downtown Houston. I had to find her. She's not stable. She not stable by far and she can't handle a lot. It takes over the age. And I told her, "Don't make don't let nobody stop letting people get you where you at." But it's like once she get there, she put blocks up. She don't do have nothing to do with the world. She don't she can't take care of the she can't do nothing. But >> So y'all were mad down in Houston. You were mad. Why did you come back to Shreport? What were you what were you going to do to solve this issue by leaving Houston? >> She put me out. Well, she didn't put me out. I actually I left. I ain't going to say she put me out. I left. >> Did you have another place to go down there >> in Houston? >> Uhhuh. >> Called her and told her why I was headed over there. I said, "Baby," she like, "Well," I said, "Baby," I said, "Man, I love you, man." But I said, "I'm going to let everybody that's laughing at you, joking on you." I said, "Baby, I'mma make you ain't going to hurt no more from people laughing at you." She was like, "What you going to do, Jonathan?" I said, "Man, I'm Cuz she always think everything a joke just like her life is entertainment." And she was like, "Jonathan, where you at?" And I'm like, "Man, I said, don't worry about it, baby. They not going to laugh at you no more. ain't going nobody going to do nothing to you no more and I don't know it was a officer what race some but I didn't know she went to the secret the police talked to him >> Jonathan insisted shar wasn't mentally stable blaming Renita's online words for pushing him into action even after learning some cops were struck during his standoff he still showed no shock only revealing why he turned his aim on them too, exposing himself as more than just a man, but a kid. >> What were you trying to do when you were at the police? >> You know, you watch TV. So, I actually thought the police would be faster than what they was. They come in the house. >> You thought that they were going to come in? >> Yeah. I thought >> What were you going to do when they came in the house? >> I would have made them. They would have shot me. >> Why would they have you though? because I know they would have me I I'd been shot by police before and didn't do nothing. >> But you thought that they were going to come in the house, right? >> Yeah. I thought they' have came faster than like if if I have sat in there, the more I said, I think they wouldn't have came. Maybe they scr >> Yeah. But when they came in the house, why would they have? >> Because I would have been at them or pointed my gun or something, they would have shot me. >> Okay. But the longer this stretched out, you thought they were strategizing? What do you mean by that? What do you think they were going to do? >> They was they was getting angles, making they was doing their police work. >> Okay. And that was not good for you or what? No. But what was your plan then when they were getting their angles and coming up with a plan? What was your plan? >> I was on the phone. >> I mean, I was at a I was in a position to where I mean, but if they would have come in there, you would have Let it go. >> All right. But you came on out. Where would you put the gun at? [clears throat] >> Highway somewhere. >> Jonathan, is there anything else you can remember or anything you want to add to your statement before we stop? I think I need to be told first degree. >> Do you know the difference between second first? >> Yes, I do. I knew what I was doing. I premeditated that. I planned it. >> Okay. Elaborate on it. What I mean >> I know what I was doing. I was in my right mind. I knew I was going to. >> All right. >> So, you think you need to be charg first? >> Yeah. >> I I know what I was doing. I ain't dumb. I ain't dumb by far. Okay. >> Anything else you want to add? >> Proceed. >> Okay. >> During the court proceedings, Renita's mother shared her thoughts and her words were overwhelming for any mother to bear. >> I didn't believe in nobody. I never believed in nobody. Not just him. Nobody. Not even an enemy. So why? Why? No. I'm glad justice been served. Everything is gone. Everything is okay. So I feel a lot better now. Now I can rest. Now me and my family can go on with our life, you know. It's over with. It's no more. So it's nothing else to talk. The decision has been made between us and everybody else. So we feel a lot better. It hurts me. It hurts me so bad. But Jonathan is not going to bring Randita back. None whatsoever. So decision has been made. And that's what it is. >> When did the VA let you know that this would happen? >> We We have been talking about it about months. We have been talking about months. He had asked me my decision and he gave me his decision. So at the end of the day, the decision that was made was my decision. So no one else could look at the DA, no one else, no other different. I made that decision. So that is what it is. >> Did Robinson reach out to you in any way? >> Yes, he did. Yes, he did. I never let no one know. It was privacy. Every time he reached out to me, I never let no one know. This wasn't the first time he apologized to me. It's about the third time with letters and writing. I just never let no one know what was going on with me. From this time on, it was just private. Whatever went on, it was private between me and my family. Yes, he did reach out and I I I forgive him. I forgive him, but I never will forget. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. >> After all investigations were concluded, Jonathan was charged with firstdegree homicide. Onto another chilling case is one out of Idaho involving 16-year-olds Brian Draper and Tori Adamic. two friends whose twisted fixation with school shootings and horror movies drove them to plot the darkest fate imaginable for their classmate Cassie. >> We can get our first started and we can kick >> just Cassie. We just left her house. This is not a joke. >> On September the 22nd, 2006, two friends craved a legacy. The way they chose to carve their names into history was nothing short of disturbing. On September the 21st, under the cover of darkness, their twisted plan began. >> We're going for a >> We're not going not to get caught, Ryan. If we're going for guns, we're just going to end it. We're just going to grab the guns and get out of there, kill everybody, and leave. >> We're going to make history. We're going to make history. >> For all you FBI agents watching this, >> uh, you weren't quick enough. You weren't quick enough and you weren't smart enough. And we're going over today, Nathan's house. We're We're going to go snoop around over there and try to see if she's holding alone or not. And she's holding alone. Splat. >> She don't put your humor into this, right? >> A I'm not putting you over. >> Yep. People will fade. Memories will fade. H I wonder what movie you got that from, Brian. >> Myself. That was for myself. >> No wonder it was so lame. >> Okay, we're on our way and I'm going to I'll let you stay tuned. We're almost there. >> Dixon's house. It's clear out there in the pasture. We've [music] already snooped around her house a couple times. Uh and she she's not at home. So, we're going to go to that church over there and we're going to call a a girl and a guy named Cassie and Matt. They're our friends, but we have to make sacrifices. [music] So, um I feel tonight [music] it is the night and I feel really weird, you know, inside my stomach and stuff and I feel like I [music] want to I know that's not new normal, but what the hell? They had plotted for far too long, consumed by a dark obsession. And now their twisted desire to take the lies of their classmates was about to erupt. >> I feel we need to break away from normal life. >> How bright is this light? Because let's say it this way. Parents along with their parents along with their parents and so on. >> Uhhuh. taught them about God, Jesus, the whole [ __ ] line. I'm sure you guys believe in God as well. I realized when I was in seventh grade along, you don't believe in Santa Claus or vampires or werewolves. They're used to metaphor not to let they teach their kids back in the 1800s. I learned this in English class about telling their kids that you can't go outside or vampire get you just to make their kids stay and do what they want to do. >> God is basically the same way. >> Yep. trying to get people to good or else so-called you go to hell. >> And we're obviously going to hell if it's real. But you know what? Who gives a >> Yeah. And why would >> it's not real cuz it's so blatantly obvious it's not real. But >> people believe it because their parents teach them and so it's so hard for them to let go of it because they've been taught their whole life. >> Yeah, I know. But what the point I'm making is >> we are also taught that things like people and other thing is wrong. The only thing that it's wrong about is because it's breaking the law and the law is only wrong. The law >> natural selection dude >> because natural selection that's all I got to say. >> There should be no law against people. I know it's a wrong thing, but >> hell, you restrict somebody from it, they're going to want it more. >> Exactly. Goodbye, camera. >> After watching their targets home, the two friends returned as if nothing happened. The next day, they came to school waiting, knowing that this was the day their twisted plan would unfold, and nothing was going to stop them. >> Hey, look. I don't know. >> Hello, Cassie. >> I'm getting you on tape. Okay. Say [snorts] hi, please. >> Hi. >> Okay. See you. >> Wait, have you seen Tori? >> He's supposed to be in here at 7:30 and it's 8:19. He's an hour late. You don't even care, dude. See you. 226. We're skipping our fourth hour. We're writing our plan right now for tonight. It's going to be cool. My dad was full or actually tonight were probably deceased. So that's pretty creepy. I just thought of that. >> Whatever. He lives what happens is supposed to happen tonight. Uh so hopefully we can move along. Everything will go smoothly and we can get our first started and we can keep going about 10 times. They've never been on the loan. you know, or you may have parents a lot. These guys were patient, you know, and we were patient and they were getting paid off cuz I went to this home loan. So, we got our I plan all worked out. So, I'm sorry. I'm sorry Cassy's family, but she had number one. We have to stick with the plan and she's perfect. She's going to stop here's hospital. And we have a new victim now. Her name is Miranda. She need to be quiet and shut up. So now she's not I want to say that too and how I've always wanted to make a mark on the world and stuff and this is a good way to do it. There's some hormones out there. >> I know. Combined with my love of corn with my love, you know, popular. >> No, you like everybody knows my name. Well, I care. You're famous now. And you're And then lasted 45 minutes and ours was probably the last like two weeks. >> Really? Only two weeks. >> Well, it it just spins if we're smart or not. Oh my gosh. I think we'll get about maybe like almost 20. That's why it's a lot of people. There's a lot of people. Okay. On the night of September the 22nd, the duo set their plan into motion. And what followed was both heartbreaking and [music] terrifying. We're here in his car. The time is 9:50, September 22nd, 2006. Um, unfortunately we have the grueling task of killing our two friends and they are right in that house just down the street. We just talked to them. We were there for an hour. But >> we checked out the whole house. We know there's lots of doors there. There's lots of places to hide. Um, I unlocked the back doors. It's all locked. Now we just got to wait. And um yeah, we're we're really nervous right now, but you know, we're ready. >> We're listening to the greatest rock band ever. >> We wait for this for a long time. >> Pink Floyd before we commit the ultimate crime of >> We wait for this for a long time. >> A long time. >> Well, stay tuned. >> Just Cassie, we just left her house. This is not a joke. I'm shaking. >> I stabbed her in the throat and I saw her lifeless body just disappeared. Dude, I'm just Cassie. Oh, that felt like it wasn't real. I mean, it went by so fast. >> Shut the We got to get our app straight. >> It's okay. >> Okay. Well, let's buy movie tickets now. >> Okay. >> Come on. >> No. >> Goodbye. >> After the incident made headlines, investigators traced the trail back to Brian [music] and Tori. When they sat Tory down for questioning, his story unraveled almost instantly, raising serious suspicions. >> We're going to start [clears throat] about I know we talked the other night about um you know, first of all, why we're here and we're investigating a homicide. Yes. >> That uh that Cassie um Stoddard was was was >> and um and uh because of the fact that you were, you know, one of the last three people, you know, there and you had knowledge of her and stuff like that, it's common course that we want to go and interview people and find out what you know. Okay. >> Okay. As I recall the other night, we um um we did get a statement from you, [music] okay? And I will tell you that, you know, me and Andy talked after that and we knew you weren't telling the truth, okay? >> Um and uh we're not holding that against you, okay? We're not mad. We're not upset. We're kind of used to that cuz people lie to us a lot. There's a lot of different reasons. I mean, you're scared. You know, little things bother you. But tonight, I just I just want to make sure that I know we said this the other night, but I want to make sure that you understand that the truth is really important. and for us to kind of clear you from this or or help help us understand, you know, we can use you as a witness here and and and we just kind of want to be able to, you know, bring things together, okay? And so your honesty is so very important. I know your parents have told you that, you know, that you need to really be upfront with us, okay? And we're going to ask you some pointed questions. And if you don't know the answer to that question and you just don't know, don't try to make it up to please us. We don't we don't want that. So anyway, um we'll go ahead and start first. I mean, I guess as I recall in the statement before you, you've known Cassie for about how long? >> From 10th grade. >> Okay. So, you've known her for for a little while. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um so, what is your relationship with Cassie? >> Friends. >> Okay. [clears throat] Is it any of you ever dated her or anything like that or just kind of friends? How often do you see her? Maybe during a week. uh every day at school, but this would be my third time hanging out with her outside of school. >> Very. Let's talk about Friday, and I think the date was the 22nd, and that was the night that [clears throat] you guys went up there to visit. Can you tell me about a little bit about maybe at school or something? How you learned or how you come to go up to Cassy's place or out to that place she was housing? She told me on Thursday, >> okay, >> that we she was having parent uh baby sitting the house basically house sitting and she just said that invite whoever you want as like a party >> since it was going to be Friday night a party. Now, did she give you any details about who she was housesitting for? She ever done it before or where that house was? Yes. She said she's done it before >> and the people she's related to them and and they pretty much are pot smokers. >> Okay. So she goes out there and the whole thing she she's just basically watching over the house for the weekend while they go out of town. Correct. And that's what you understood. >> Yes. >> So Thursday at school you're talking about she's saying I'm going to do this Friday you guys come out. We're going to have a party. Yeah. >> Did she say what time the party was going to begin? >> Well, it wasn't technically a party. She didn't say we're going to have party with booze and stuff. She just said invite some people. >> Okay. Just maybe get together. People go hang out and >> Yeah. >> do whatever. Okay. But did they give a time that it was going to start or just come out in? >> No. >> Barely 10 minutes into the interrogation, Tori was already spinning lies, unaware that every word was only dragging him deeper into his own trap. >> Did Did you know that Matt, her boyfriend, was going to be there, too? Yes. >> So, and you're also familiar with him? >> Yes. >> Friends with him? >> Mhm. >> Coins. >> I hated him last year. >> Okay. >> And then [clears throat] I didn't really hate him. I didn't really know. I just disliked him at school. >> Disliked him cuz >> uh I don't know. It's a lot of things. >> Just the way he acted or >> he annoyed me pretty much. >> Fair enough. >> And then this year he was going out with Cassie and Cassie's one of my friends. So, I just made peace with the guy that just tal started talking to him. >> Okay. Did were were you over to Cassy's house on Thursday or did you do this at school? >> Uh, we planned it at school. >> So, you didn't you wasn't at her house on Thursday? >> No. >> Okay. Okay. >> Have you ever been to her house? >> Yes. >> Okay. When was the last time you've been to her house? >> Thursday. We went to her house Thursday. Yes. >> Okay. Okay. So now you remember that it was >> you mean Cassy's house? >> Cassy's house. Her her residence where she lives, not the place where she was house sitting, but where she lives with her mom. Maybe I screwed that up. >> Thursday, I think. >> Okay. So you >> I'm not sure the exact date, but I'm pretty positive it was Thursday. Me and Brian went up there and then she told us about the house at school that day. >> Did Did she give you directions? Yes. She told me an address and I wrote it down at school. >> Do you remember what it was off the top of your head? >> No. >> Do you remember what the name of the street was? >> Uh, Whistling Cliffs. >> Okay. Something to that effect. >> Yeah. >> You knew it was basically Would it be fair to say that you knew it was >> north of town? I mean, so it's out there in the >> the country, if you will. >> Okay. But you wrote it down somewhere. >> Yes. >> And where was that that you wrote it down? >> On a piece of paper loosely. >> Yeah. You still have that piece of paper right there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Okay. And you don't have that, right? So, it's 9:30. You guys decide you're going to leave. >> Yeah. >> What time do you think you actually left the place? >> About 9:38. Between 9:35 to 9:30 and 9:40. >> Okay. So, somewhere between 9:35 9:40. >> Well, [clears throat] not so Pacific. More of 9:30 29:45. >> Okay. More after. >> So it definitely before 10:00 though sometime. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. >> Matt wanted to know if he could come with us at me and Brian >> at that time. >> And we said that he wanted to stay the night at my house. And I said I should ask my mom first. And I told him that uh I should tell my mom, ask my mom [clears throat] in person rather than over the phone. I was never really wanting him to stay the night. >> Okay. [clears throat] So, he asked at that time, can I just go with you guys and I'll spend the night at your house? And you said, uh, probably not a good idea in your own head. So, he blew it off. >> He had to ask him [clears throat] all. >> Yeah. And then we went out. We drove up the neighborhood. We drove up the street a little actually and just parked under >> just back up before I just want to know what door did you leave through when you guys left the house to go >> uh wherever you went. >> I think one time when we were at the house I left out the back door just I don't know >> the back door as in the bottom nugget. The investigator stayed calm and professional while Tory with every answer tightened the noose around himself. >> Like how far away do you think from the house? Was it >> uh block or >> maybe block? Okay. So out of the sight of the house? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And so you parked Did you park in someone's driveway or did you park out in front of their house? >> Uh or you see any houses there? >> We saw there was a white h a brick house. White brick. >> White brick. Okay. >> Okay. So So what was the purpose of parking there? We were scoping the neighborhood because we were planning to go through cars. >> When When you say go through cars, what do you mean? >> Oh, see the ones that are open. We don't go through any with alarms or that are locked. We just walk by, push the handle, and if it's open, we get in it and steal the gas money or change. >> So, so have you done that before? >> Uh, once this year and in ninth grade. >> Okay. So, it's something that I mean familiar with. I mean, you >> Yes. >> Okay. you do that. Do you think it's real frequent or just you say just a couple times? >> Just a couple times. >> Okay. So, this is fairly new to you stuff. It's not >> You're not all pro at it. You don't go out every other night and do this kind of stuff? >> No. >> Okay. What What the What prompt I guess I'm assuming you and Brian decided to do this together? >> No, he's not doing >> I did it in ninth grade before I was friends with Brian with Adam. >> And then Adam got busted and I didn't do it. After Adam got busted, I didn't do it anymore. And then I didn't do it anymore 10th grade summer or I mean ninth grade summer and I didn't do it 10th I didn't do a 10th grade summer but we just barely started up on a week end of our junior year. It's actually two weeks ago before this one. >> Okay. >> And you know that's you know standard term is that that's burglary you know vehicle burglary. Yes. >> So you know that's against the law that >> All right. So did uh so when you parked there >> Uhhuh. >> where did you where did you guys walk to get into these cars? Were there some cars in the area that you got into or did did you how how much got out of the car I'm assuming at that point in time? >> Yeah, we got out of the car. We got out and looked around for about 15 minutes. >> Look around. What do you mean? We just stay >> like we just like Okay, here's where we are. We'll go we might go this way, this way, and then this way. >> Okay. Which which way did you end up going? And then we got back in the car and we called Matt because we were planning to invite him to go with us. >> Okay. >> But we didn't want >> losing me just a little bit cuz I'm not quite understanding what you guys get out of the car. Okay. And you're out of the car for 15 minutes. >> Look around and >> you stand in one place. >> No, we walked out down a little the road and then we'll turn around. We'll walk down this way and walk down this way. >> So So for about 15 minutes you're out there. So this is So you left 9:35 9:40. So, >> so for the next 15 minutes, you're you're walking around and are you looking for cars? So, these >> No, we're not. We weren't planning to get in them until Matt was with us. So, then we got back in the car and we called Cassy's house. Matt answered. >> Was this Was this after the 15 minutes you said? >> Yes. After the 15 minutes, we got back in the car. >> Let me see if I got any phone calls from here. Um, we got that one call we talked about at 9:31. >> Yeah. >> Um, was So, that was called to you. He was asked or somebody at home ask him if he could spend the night. Is that the >> movies? >> Okay. The movies. All right. >> During the incident, Tori spun wild tales about him and Brian stealing cars, hoping to throw investigators off. He was about to learn that they were smarter than he thought. >> So, you got done tidying up the car. >> Yeah. And then we left. >> Okay. Then then where'd you guys go? You're on the move now. How'd you get the neighborhood? >> We turned around. >> Okay. So, you did you turn in the middle of the road? >> Yeah. And then you headed out. >> And then we went out the way we came in. >> We couldn't really find our way out. It was a complicated street. >> Okay. >> So, we had to turn around a few times. >> Okay. >> And then we went back to my house. >> Okay. Um Oh, you went directly back to your house. You didn't stop anywhere in between. >> You didn't [clears throat] go to any other neighborhoods and work any other neighborhoods. >> Okay. Um, if Brian would have said you went to any other neighborhoods and work some neighborhoods, is that is that untrue? >> That would be untrue. >> Okay. So that's the only neighborhood you worked up there. >> Yes. >> Soon as you were done, you tied up your car. It's about what 10, what' you say? 10:50. >> Between 10:50 and 11:05. I'm not sure on the time. >> You leave and you drive directly home. >> Okay. What time do you guys get home? >> Uh around 11:20 between 11:30. Somewhere right between there. We we knew it was before curfew, right? >> Yeah, we knew it was before curfew but getting late past 11. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, >> so I'm sorry. What was that time again? >> 11 between 11:15 and 11:30. >> Okay. >> You got home >> and Friday night we picked up Jamie at about 11, right? Got back from picking Jamie up >> at the game. at the game. >> Pretty late. >> I got out at like 11:15. It was real late. >> Yeah, because the game start. Oh, yeah. >> I remember you and Jamie coming home and me and Brian were downstairs. >> I was downstairs watching the game on TV on the news and thinking, "Crap, it's halftime. I'm going to be up forever." >> And then so I told Shannon it's halftime and she said, "Oh crap, it's half time. >> I'm not staying up. I was tired." So I said, "I'm going to go up and read." So, she's up reading and then I go get Jamie and come back and Torres and Brian's in there. >> Okay. >> And that was a poke game. >> Okay. >> At the mini dome. >> At the mini dome. >> Okay. >> The second poke or the second game at the mini second. >> And they gave one game. >> Tory thought he was finally in the clear. That was until the investigator hit him with a [music] question that sent him scrambling for another story. >> Okay. We're at the point you're home, you watched some movies, you went to bed between 1:30 and 2:00 a.m. >> Okay. Is there any reason why you would have left the house that night? >> Are you sure? >> Yes. >> Because we're now we're at the point where you got to tell the truth. Okay. Because there's some people that saw your common sense later that night. >> Why? Common sense. >> Common sense at the Oh, wait. Yeah. Me and Brian went down the the gas station. Brian wanted a drink. He didn't like the pop we had. >> What time was that? >> That was maybe 1 1:00 and then after the movie >> could have been later than 1:00 >> maybe. >> Could have been sometime after 1:30. >> Yeah, it was probably 11:30. >> You guys went to Common Sense and Common Sense I'm talking about is that uh >> Okay. And then >> Brian bought matches. Did you buy anything? >> No, I didn't even go in. >> Okay. Sat in the car. Brian got in. >> Then after that, we drove. >> And you see Brian smokes? >> Yes. >> What kind of brand does he smoke? >> I don't know what brand. >> Smoking your car. >> I think he smoked in my No, he didn't smoke in my car. I usually don't want him smoking in my car. What kind of matches did you buy? >> Just a box of 50. Okay. Where'd you go then? Then after that, Brian wanted to go up to his house and we took the way past Century instead of going down through uh what's it called? Uh going down through >> she needs keys down the luck. Huh? >> Thank you again. >> So you go so you leave that common sense and you drive down. Usually we would go down under the underpass to get to Brian's house down Bick Highway, but then I went down the road that passes Century, so we got lost up there and we just turned around. >> What time is this? >> Uh, probably two. >> Okay. So, so you're out there near Century. >> Yeah. And we went out farther down through Sentry and we could I couldn't find the way to Brian's house from there. Brian didn't know apparently either, right? So, we got lost up there and I made a bunch of turnounds and we got back and then we went Brian said, "Let's go down to uh let's go down to the underpass so we could get to his house that way." But I looked at my gas and I didn't have enough and I went to the common sense out by Black Rockck. I think it was a common sense and I paid off in change $1.90 I think for gas and you could probably verify that >> pump videos on the pumps. >> Yeah. As Tori continued, it became clear that his stories were unraveling and the truth was on the verge of being exposed. >> Take anything with you when you when you left your house. >> Again, it's important that you be honest with us here. >> If somebody were to see you putting a blue bag in the back of your trunk, >> would you taking some garbage out? Were you putting a garbage sack in there? Did you do anything like that? >> Um, no. >> You don't remember doing that? >> Mm-m. So, somebody saw you open the trunk and you had some type of blue bag. You were Brian putting it in the back of your cars out in front of your house. >> Do you guys have blue garbage bags? >> I think >> they could possibly be tinted. Minor tint. >> Blue. >> I believe they're blue. >> Okay. >> Probably. Did >> you take the garbage out with you, dump it when you went out or did you have the garbage? I mean, I'm just trying to figure out why somebody'd see you with a blue garbage sack like coming out like you're bringing the garbage out. But this >> was it a sack full of stuff or just >> just it had >> it was full of stuff. >> Well, it had the sack and then you know there were some items that that you had apparently >> and it went in the trunk of your car and all I'm telling is what people were telling us. >> Um I don't know. I can't think of that. >> So that might be something that happened. >> Yeah. >> Did you take a shovel with you? Uh, I think it was Brian's shovel that he borrowed. They were going to build jumps in the back of his yard. Okay. >> In the backyard. >> Who had the shovel then? >> I think it's Brian shovel. >> So, where did you put it? Was it in your car? >> Yeah, it was in the trunk of my car. >> Okay. So, it was gone by the time we looked in your car the other night. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, what So, what you put that shovel in that car that night? >> Yeah. >> So, he's going to just take it back to his house? took it back to his house the next day. >> All right. >> What you guys did with the shovel? >> We took it back next day when we drove when I drove Brian home. Uh he dropped the shovel off at his house. >> So he he was going to build the drums fire. >> He has in his yard, >> his house. So, why is the shovel in your car? Is he [clears throat] going to >> take it back from my house? >> I know, but why is it at your house? >> He [clears throat] brought it over one day, I guess. I don't know why. >> Well, if you look in the back of my house, it's all He probably wanted to build jumps there. >> What kind of shovel is it? >> Just a shovel. >> Is it a short one with a little handle or a big long >> long one? >> Does it got the rounded nose? >> Yes. >> Okay. Not a square headed shovel. Rounded nose. down [clears throat] in now. Okay. >> Okay. Um, one other thing I want to touch upon at night when you're out messing around. That's why I asked you earlier, just take any masks with you because we have some indications that you had some like Halloween type, you know, scary masks or something. Were you guys playing around with those at any point in time or? >> We bought one earlier, but >> Where'd you buy that? >> Adam saw that. It was only $7 at >> Well, I'm talking that night. You guys had some had some Halloween. >> It was in my trunk of my car for a while, though. >> Was it in the car Friday night? >> Uh, yeah. During >> Yeah, probably was. >> Okay. >> Tired of his lies, the investigators gave him one final chance to tell the truth. >> I'm going to tell you that that we need to Now's the time. Now's the time to really start start being honest with some things, okay? Um, we know some things to be true. We know exactly what happened. We found some things. Okay. And, um, I want to give you the first chance and the first opportunity. >> You owe it to your mom and dad. >> Absolutely. >> You've got great parents. You owe it to your mom and dad to be straight. >> We are all here for you, bro. >> I'm telling you. I mean, we're not here to twist anything up. We're here to help you out of a jam. If you got ded into some things, which apparently you did, we need to know and we need to know the truth. Okay. [clears throat] >> I I guess the best way I can explain it is the the house of cards is falling, you know, and it's kind of stories are falling apart and stuff like that. >> Tori, you know where we're going with this. >> Yeah. >> You know what we have >> and we know, man. It's just it's just one of those things. you come to this juncture in your life and you just either got to, you know, you either got to give it up or it's it's going to eat you up and and your folks want you to do that. I'm telling you. I mean, it's the truth is going to set you free on this, you know, literally, you know, but the truth is going to set your feelings free and uh you're going to get by this thing. But I'm here to tell you that we've been doing this for several days. We've talked to a lot of people. We've seen a lot of things. We've put the pieces of the puzzle together. That's what we do. That's all we've been doing. I've been sleeping. Okay. We know how it went down. >> Tell us what happened. >> Like flat out of Cassy's place. We went through cars neighbor. Okay. Um, you know, I'm not here to insult you or anything, but we don't believe your story and we don't believe your story and I don't think your dad believes your story about going through the cars. It's it's a tough one and I don't believe it especially because I know it's not true because we got you going into that house when you parked on the street. We got you going back into Cassy's house. >> If it was a prank, if you guys are just messing around, fine. We just need to know about that prank, you know, that's going on in there. And if it's just there to scare him and you guys left and something happened else besides that, let's let's get that thing out of here. You know what I mean? >> But [clears throat] in everything that happens, there's always people that are watching. And you go around, you talk to all these people and they they finally put together this puzzle. You got the trucker out here, you got the common sense clerk, you got the neighbor, you know, you got all these people, you know, that see it. They see got people seeing your car park, you know, which which you cooperate for us parking in the neighborhood. >> Sean, do you guys go back in just to pull a prank? Is that what happens? >> Um, I don't know. >> You're into that kind of stuff. I mean, for all intents and purposes, and tell me if I'm screwed up on this, but you like you like horror movies. You like scary movies and stuff like that. That's what I've been told about you. You dig You dig those kind of movies, right? Thriller movies, whatever you want to call them. You dig those kind of things. >> After [snorts] an exhausting hour of denial, investigators finally laid out the evidence. And that's when Tori realized he was trapped. >> You know the truth. The truth is easy for you. But we can help you. If if we don't get the truth, we can't come together. We can't work this thing out. We can't do it. You're going to be left out in the cold. >> Can I talk to her in the truth? He can do that. >> Can you talk to me? >> Probably. Yeah. >> Can I have a minute with him to see if you absolutely >> Is this room private? You said >> we can we can >> All right. Why don't you go in? >> He just um >> based on what the lawyer said, he's just worried about telling you guys anything. >> Well, here's a deal that we met with him. Dad, I think we owe it to you at this point to find out what we know at this point. >> Y and there's just no easy way to tell you this. Um, we do know [clears throat] that uh Sean or excuse me, that Tori and >> um >> Brian >> Brian have gone back in the house. Okay, we do know that the two of them We do know that they Cassie. Okay. We got the evidence at this point to prove that. >> We also have some overwhelming evidence, uh, trace evidence, that type of stuff that's going to prove that they did it as well. It's not just hearsay. It's not just somebody saying it. And then we do have a confession from another person giving full disclosure. So, is that why you want to talk to a lawyer? [clears throat] >> And here's the deal. And here's the deal with you. What what I would like to do is maybe when your wife comes back, sit down and talk to you all, get you up to speed. You know what you need to do. You know exactly what happened and you know what you need to do. So, unfortunately, you're not going anywhere tonight. You're going to be placed into custody tonight. Okay. Um I'm sorry. That's the way it goes. >> You're going to be charged with first degree. >> Okay. Okay. But like I said before, before you say anything, I encourage you if you want to talk to attorney, you should do that. I'm not I'm not pulling punches here. Still, your your full cooperation can do nothing but help you at this point in time. >> You understand that, Tori? Even though you need a lawyer or whatever you want to talk to a lawyer, I understand that's the advice they give you today. >> And then you whatever you and the lawyer work out, they want details. We've got the knife that you used. We've got the masks that you used. We've got the vide tape. We We've got it. There's a tape up in there that you buried. Okay. Tried to catch on fire. Oh, that's >> You know, you know what I'm talking about. I don't need to tell you that. >> This is right, Tori. And what they're saying is true. >> Tori already knew his fate, but Brian didn't. He was about to find out. And at first, he dodged and stalled just like Tori. >> Let's start. You know, if you can just kind of give us the story again. how you come to be to going to just to reconfirm the story about how you went out to Whispering Cliffs on Friday night. And if you can kind of start there a little bit. Okay. Well, on Thursday night, okay, me and my friend Tori went to um we we went to Cassy's house around I don't know the time and we talked to her and stuff and she told us that she >> Cassy's house, not to interrupt you, but Cassy's house was that on Kinghorn. Is that off of Hawthorne Road? >> Okay, got Hawthorne Road. >> And we talked to her and stuff. >> What time was that? that you went to her house, remember on Thursday? >> Uh, my curfew is 8:30. It's had been probably 8:00 or been there. >> Fair enough. >> And so, um, >> you visited with her. We went to her house. >> Yes. >> Did we do anything? Talk about >> We talked on her, um, her her porch, you know, porch. >> And we talked about it and she said she was going to dog sitting. >> Okay. >> Dog sittings, >> right? and she said that she had a house for herself and stuff. And uh well, so I asked her, you know, if we have friends over and stuff and she said, "Yeah." And so and then we left probably about half an hour after talking to her. And so at school, I told a whole bunch of people that there's going to like a party there and stuff and she's going to be home for the whole weekend. >> Okay. How let's let's talk a little bit about that. Why Why did you like a whole bunch of people? What does that mean? Does that mean 10? Does that mean 20? >> I told a group of a a group of 10. I believe it was like eight or nine number of course. >> And he was talking to them and stuff and they said that they would they would tell their friends >> and stuff. >> Okay. >> Anyways, >> so you were just kind of past the word that there's going to be I mean did you think there was going to be a big party at that that impression you had on Friday night? >> I did. I did. >> Okay. >> Fair enough. Okay. What what happened to that? What happened after that point in time? >> I went home. >> Oh, well at at school. >> Yeah. So, so Thursday night you went there, you talked about that you knew she's going to be housesitting. >> Yes. >> Okay. Then was it then you went back to school on Friday? >> Yeah. >> And told people. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Afternoon. >> All right. And Cassie's with me, too. >> Okay. So, she's standing there when you're telling these other people, "Hey, Cassie's having a party. She can be home." What did she say about that? >> She said, "Yeah." >> Okay. You'll be your friends. And then I believe she called Alisa to to come to the party [clears throat] with us. >> Okay. Did do they say what time that party was supposed to begin? >> Well, I said I'd be there around 8. >> Okay. >> Okay. Then what that was on Friday? >> Yeah, it's Friday. And then I went with my classes and stuff. And then >> Brian's and Tori's stories did not line up. And investigators quickly saw through the lies. But Brian was about to learn that no excuse could change what was coming. >> But the long and the short of it is is that you didn't stop anywhere in between stop at this gas store or anything like that, convenience store, nothing like that. >> And then you arrived. You eventually found the place apparently. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And as I recall, um, you guys parked where out in the driveway? >> Um, on the right there was like a truck there. >> Okay. >> You parked on right side of that. >> Okay. What that truck look like? >> No. I remember it had I don't know if it had a [sighs] >> mine was a truck. I don't I don't really know exactly. >> Okay. Color was >> I remember it being gray and blue, but that's what I see in my head. >> All right. Gray. >> So, you parked to the right of that truck. >> Yeah. Right. >> All right. Then what? >> Uh then we saw cat Matt up on the front porch and he's >> like, is that like up on the balcony? He's up like on the second level, >> the balcony. And >> so he come out, he come out of the house to greet you. >> Okay. >> And so we inside the house. We're like, "Holy crap." And this is a huge house and stuff. >> And so we went, >> "How do you get into the house?" >> You go up the balcony. >> Mhm. >> Then I think it's like that. >> So you ended up [laughter] entering the house at the same place where Matt was standing, greeting you. Yeah. >> But did you notice there was a lower door, too, and a garage door? I did. I did. Okay. We didn't go in that door. You went in the second level. >> Yes. >> Okay. Then what? >> Well, we you guys went into the house side, walked together. Tori was with you. >> Yes. Okay. And we saw the house. It was really big and stuff. I'm like, "Oh, this is cool." You know, and then I remember asking Cassie, "Uh, where is everybody?" You know, she said, "Well, nice kid." So, we sat down. I remember he had a big uh >> So, you sat So, you went there and and you went into the first room. Did you go into a living room, a hallway? What was >> there's a living room on the left side, I remember. And there's a staircase. >> So, what's the first thing you did when you arrived there? Did you just go into the living room or did you did you go throughout the whole house? >> I walked around the house. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Was you escorted by anybody or mess? >> Okay. So, Matt like >> you walking around stuff. >> Okay. Just kind of showing you everything. So, you basically looked at every room in the house. Got the plan. >> There's a lot of rooms there. Yeah. >> Okay. There's tons. >> All right. The investigators already knew the truth, but they needed Brian to admit it. So, they pressed him gently. And that moment marked the start of his downfall. >> So, let me ask you this before we back up a little bit. Now, you you didn't eat any popsicles in there. >> No. >> Okay. So, they were eating popsicles. What now? Were you in the kitchen? Were you What were you using to open the Were they these ones you have to you have to cut the top open or did you tear them with your teeth or how >> uh you had to cut the top open. >> Okay. How are they opening the popsicles? Uh, I remember there was a knife in the the drawer that had like a child thing on it. >> Okay. >> And and Matt was like, "Oh, yeah. Um, I showed him to open it and stuff and he opened it for me and then he did it." >> Okay. So So did you touch that knife at all? >> Uh, I think I I think I held it first. Yes. >> Okay. Did you see them using the knife and >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. And then did it laying on the counter when you left? Was it put back in the drawer? Was it on the counter? Do you know where it was? >> Uh, I think it was put back in the drawer, actually. >> Okay. But you But you saw that and Matt showed you Matt apparently helped you get that knife out of the thing. Okay. And then why did you handle it? >> Oh, I was trying to find like a pair of scissors and I found that. I'm like, this might work. >> Okay. >> So, we just touch that. >> Okay. And but you didn't have a popsicle stick of your own. You just help them open theirs. >> Yeah, I have one. >> All right. >> I'm not a big fan of those kind of popsicles. >> Okay. All right. And then I do know we went downstairs to the um to get our popsicles and I saw the gym. >> Okay. >> So we we have to wait for like maybe 20 minutes >> and play them. Did you sit on them? Did you play with a little bit? So >> your fingerprints might be on those those >> We have like a contest. >> Okay. And do you drive all the way to the movie theater? And the movie theater we're talking about is Carmite, right? The the $2 movie or the >> dollar theater. I don't know what they call it, but it used to be next to the green triangle there at the place we're talking about. >> And it was uh it was around 9:45. >> So you drive un uninterrupted from that place where you stopped for 5 minutes. >> Yeah. You just went to the thing >> and then you talked for 5 minutes and then you drove straight to the movie house. >> Yes. >> Didn't stop in between. Didn't pull over again. Didn't get out of the car. Nobody would have saw you getting out of your car. >> Somewhere in between. >> In my car like when? >> Well, in between that that that trip. You didn't stop anywhere and go to a gas station, go to a convenience store, get out of the car. And you didn't get out of the car there, did you? No. Nobody saw you guys get out for a minute to get something out of the car or >> did >> uh I I think it opened to spit. >> Okay. >> And I dropped like a thing on the floor and I just got it. But that's about it. >> But you opened the door there and and so but you wouldn't have left. You wouldn't have people wouldn't have saw you, you know, getting out of the car. You guys been walking from there? >> No. >> Okay. You didn't like go walk anywhere, go see anybody else? No. Okay. So, he just stayed in the car. Yeah. >> Brian confidently claimed that they had been at the theater watching a movie, unaware that investigators already knew the whole story. He was about to face a brutal reality check. >> What's the whole premise or the plot of the movie? What's it all about? >> Uh, well, it was white noise. >> Okay. I don't know why No, you're going to have to give. >> Okay. You're going to have to give us some details. >> Okay. It's about a guy, his wife. Uh, >> I don't want to know what white noise is about. I want to know what this movie is about. >> Yes. That's what I'm saying. Okay. And then I remember um uh [sighs] I can't really exactly explain the movie cuz I would I didn't pay attention to it. >> Well, okay. You know what we did yesterday? [laughter] >> Well, we went and watched the movie. >> Really? >> Mhm. >> So, >> okay. >> What is the movie about? >> Jeez. I I don't exactly know. I remember being I remember being really really bored. >> So you go in you pay you pay that money to go in a movie and just I mean so so your stories you didn't really watch them. >> Well that's the >> Okay. But but they're but they're two seats away. I mean you could you could be doing a lot of talking and at least you're picking up you're picking up something. You're going to pick up at least one image off the screen that you saw. Tell us about one person. Describe one person you saw in the movie. What they look like. I'm seeing a man and he looked at a a TV screen that and it had white noise on had the sh thing and >> that's all you saw the whole movie. So how long do you think you were inside that movie theater? >> Total grand total. >> We were there the whole maybe 2 hours. >> 2 hours you were inside that movie theater and you don't remember you don't remember one detail to help us out. >> Uh >> we're trying to help you out. >> I I Yeah, I know. That's why I want to tell you Jeez. >> Okay, so let's go back to this. You go back in the movie Tori still sitting there after Heather makes a phone call. Um movie the credits roll. You guys get up and leave. >> Yeah. >> How do you leave the movie house? Do you go out the fire exits or do you go out the front door? >> These doors right here. >> Okay. And then you walk back around to your car. >> Get in the car. Then what do you do? >> Uh let's see. >> I I think I think we call Matt again. Do we? I think we just went straight home. Just went straight home now. >> All the hunters after the movie, right? Mhm. To >> see. Yeah. Went straight home. >> Went straight home. Went to Tori's place. >> Yes. >> You spent the night there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> We in his basement. >> Okay. Um Brian, we got we got some problems. Okay. >> Yeah. You understand? >> We got some problems. love you. >> And and it's and it's it's really important that um this is the time in the interview where you really need to cowboy up >> and you really need to decide how you want this thing to fall on you. >> Yeah. >> Um we've done our homework. Okay. >> Yeah. >> We've talked to a lot of people. We viewed tape. Okay. And and I'm here to tell you, you didn't go to the movie. >> Okay. >> You were not at that movie theater. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Now, that's neither here nor there. But the thing is, you're gonna have to get by that. >> Yeah. >> Because if you didn't go to the movie, that's fine. But you're gonna have to tell us where you went so that we can put you there because it's it's I don't want something to cave in on you that that that that's not working for you. >> Okay? >> We're here to help you, bro. I mean, really, we are. >> You know what happened? Okay. >> What? >> You didn't go to the movie. >> We didn't go to the movie. Okay. Okay. >> Okay. [laughter] Before you do that, just listen carefully to Andy. Okay. >> Okay. >> With his story already torn apart, Brian had one last chance to come clean. But instead, he chose to keep up the act. >> Don't underestimate how much we know. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I told you the first night that when I saw you that I don't think you're the type of person that could kill somebody cold. >> Especially my close friend. >> Especially [clears throat] your close friend. Of course. All right. >> Okay. Hold on a sec. Okay. >> Okay. >> I can tell you what we're doing. I was trying to hide this, but I guess I have to tell you now. >> You're going to have to, man. That's the only way out. >> Um, we went through cars that and that's against law. So, what that's why I want to say that. >> Okay. You went through cars. What What does that mean? Uh, we check for the cars that they aren't wall locked. And then we at Tori had to drive. I don't know. I I And then we called Matt because he wanted to to come to Okay. So So you So you didn't go to the movie, but you went through cars. >> We didn't go to the movie, but we went >> Can you tell us where you went through cars at? Because you went through take anything out of cars. >> We didn't find anything though. God. >> Okay. So, can you take us to a car that you went through and we should find your fingerprints on that car? >> I We went to I had gloves and and then we went I remembered we drove by to his house and hold on his neighborhood. Hold on. >> Let's let's let's just really let's let's rezero ourselves, man. We I'm I'm I can't stress to you enough that we are your best friends right now, okay? And and and please please don't underestimate. We know you're a bright kid. We know that we know that you got a lot going for you and we want to help you to get a lot going for you and we want to help you. And right now is the perfect time that that we can man we can really help you out. Now, we've got a lot of bargaining chips right now, but it's it's it just so requires, like Andy said, we we possess some knowledge, firsthand knowledge. We know. And what we're really waiting for is you to come straight with us so that we can help get you out of this crap so it's not going to ruin the rest of your life. >> Okay? >> We want to help you. Okay? We really do. I just really want you to to believe in us for a minute and uh and really >> I don't understand what you're saying. I don't understand. >> You need to tell us the truth. >> I told you. >> Okay. So, this is the truth. >> Yes. This this is this is the truth. >> You can these things we should be able to go out and confirm and cooperate. >> This is I was trying to hide this because I heard from a friend that um that that's uh 10 years in prison. What exactly were you doing? Tell me exactly what you were doing. >> We parked outside her house for >> uh she lost. >> That's right. Okay. Just do just do something right now. Just do something right now. >> Yeah. >> Just take just take a minute. We all We'll all be quiet for a minute. You can take a few deep breaths. >> Investigators had enough of Brian's games, issuing one final warning. Stop lying. Start telling the truth. We have some aces in our pocket. And what I mean by aces, I mean we have some things that we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we've confirmed with people and that we know. Okay? We know about the car. We know about some activities that you guys have done. Okay? So needless to say for you to jerk us our chain. Okay. Cassie is this great friend of yours. Okay. >> She's watching right now. She's hearing everything that you're saying. >> She has been brutally >> and then you have wasted our time by ding around. Okay. And trying to lie to us. And trust me, we understand why you're trying to to divert us. Okay? We understand. You don't want to get in trouble. I understand that. Okay? The whole point in this is is don't waste any more of our time. Okay? Don't underestimate what we know. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um because it's going to come down to one or two things. Okay. We already have one strike against you. Okay. You've already lied to us and we don't appreciate that. Okay. >> Yeah. >> These are the types of situations that you don't lie in. Everything else in this world is game. >> And I and I'm a firm believer in that. I don't give a if you lie in anything else to a cop, whatever. When it comes to a of a beloved friend, you [music] do not lie. Okay. The second part of that is I want you to take a deep breath and I want you to think about what part of this that you that you're involved in. Okay? How much of this are you involved in? [music] >> Involved in [clears throat] what? >> In what we're talking about with Cassie. Okay. >> You think I'm involved? >> I want you to continue. I want you to keep >> I want you to keep talking to us about things, Brian. >> Okay. And I'm saying we're your lifeline. We can help you now, but we can't help you later. We can't. If if you tell us, I mean, we're let we're willing to let bygones be bygon. You tell us the first lie. So what? We expect that. Just let's let's clean it up and let's make it right. Let's be let's look manto man in the eye. Let's let's get all our cards on the table and and let's talk about we're here for one thing. We're here, you know, to solve what happened to Cassie and we didn't know >> if you were involved in that. And if you are, that's fine. We can deal with that. >> Fine. We can deal with that. >> But you guys are ridiculous. >> My friend, why am I Cassie? >> Did anybody do you know who did it? >> No, I don't know. Cassie, >> doesn't it seem weird that that all of a sudden now you know we're you left a place in the homicide. Now you've already told us the first light. Now now I'm hoping that you're going to that you're going to come clean and you're going to tell us what happened. >> Exactly. Brian's story started lining up with Tori's about the carjacking, but it still was not enough for investigators. So, they asked him the direct question, and his response reveals just how cruel he truly was. >> Do you have anything to do with H? >> Does he have anything to do with Cassie? >> No. >> No, I did not have anything to do with Cassie >> Couttori. >> No. >> Okay. And you're being square on that? >> Of course. And if we offer you a polygraph test, lie detector test, we're going to ask you to take it. Yes. >> We want you to take that. >> Of course, I'll take it. >> Okay. >> And you're not going to fail it? >> I don't need you to fail this test. >> Well, they're what? The 90 9% true, right? >> No, they're about 96. >> Okay. Well, then yes, I should say yes. >> Okay. And they're pretty simple. I mean, there there's not a lot of uh there's not a lot of hoc hocus pocus on them. Okay. They're pretty simple. >> Okay. All right. Do you love Cassie? >> Like love as a friend or love? Like >> you kind of have a crush on her a little bit. Did you have a crush on her a little bit? >> I did. And I was about to ask her out. Okay. >> But and Matt did and I always thought they were bad, you know, a couple. >> Uhhuh. >> You know, uh cuz he I should say this, but he he likes to smoke weed. Mhm. >> And I don't And Cassie hates it too. >> Mhm. >> And Cassie's against doing I'm against doing Cassie's against doing the you know, you know, like drinking alcohol and stuff and I am too, >> right? >> And I I met her before Matt and I was going to ask her out and stuff and then he just moves on and >> and he ends up with her. >> Yeah. >> So, that's cool. I guess they're happy together. I mean, did he tell you about having with her? >> I remember. >> Did he brag about that? >> I remember I went to the bathroom when when I was at their house and there was a rapper in the toilet and and then I asked him about it and and he said that he had I I had sex with him before he came. >> Did he talk dirty about her or >> No. No. No. So, it make you a little bit uncomfortable when you guys watch the movie where they kissing and stuff like that. It was like, uh, do I have to do that in front of me? >> Uh, I guess I'm kind of like that. Yeah. >> So, what about Tori? Did Tori Did Tori have a crush on her, too? I mean, you guys kind of both like her a little bit. >> No. >> Okay. >> No, he was more friends with her than I >> But Tori Well, I mean, Tori told us he liked her. >> I mean, he that he went out, you know, he went to a movie with her and stuff. Yeah, we saw the the hillside advice uh previously. >> Okay. But I mean, he said that he he felt pretty much the same way that you did. >> I did not know that. >> Well, I would be sharing that with him. Okay. But he I mean, that's what he's saying. Just >> I know him. I didn't have Cassie. I didn't know that. >> Um >> now, though, >> was he ever mad about Cassie or pissed off with Cassie? >> Okay. [clears throat] We just >> did you ever did you ever at any point in time leave >> leave uh Tori >> like >> on that night? >> Oh no. >> Investigators pressed Brian telling him that his story did not add up and there was time to come clean. But Brian kept denying until they finally laid it out, making it clear that there was no escaping the punishment he and Tori had brought upon themselves. Investigators laid out every piece of evidence before Brian. Yet his refusal to admit any role in Cassie's homicide left them stunned. >> Why are you in the house? Okay. Why do two guys like you are seeing going back in the house? Okay. That's one thing that I'd never divulge to anybody. >> Okay. >> Okay. I've got your car back in the area guaranteed. That's that's a given. Okay. >> I've got your car, the red car. >> Okay. The red car. Okay. back in the area. Okay, that's a given. We we got that taken care of today and then you confirmed it. Okay, we know exactly >> tomorrow and stuff. >> We know exactly when Cassie. >> Okay, I know exactly when. Okay, >> she when you guys left, right after you guys left and Matt left. >> Okay. >> Okay. So now you're telling me you just happen to be back in the neighborhood burglarizing cars with gloves on, but you don't go in chassis. >> Okay. So what is Tori going to say? Is Tori going to say that it was Brian's idea to go on the house and play a prank on a >> go house? >> What has he already what has he already said, bro? You know what I mean? Second Larry don't stand a chance if somebody's already given it up. You don't want to be the second one through the door. >> I know. >> Cuz you won't get anything out of it. The guy the first guy that tells the truth wins. >> I've already told him the truth. >> Okay. We're not going away, man. >> Yeah. >> This thing is not going away. >> And it's going to eat you up. >> Yes. Yeah, I know that. >> If you did, you think you had something to do with it? >> I didn't have anything. It's going to eat you up. It's going to eat you up from the inside out to self-destruct. >> Okay. >> Just build it up. >> I don't know. >> Who was with you? >> When? >> If it's not you and [clears throat] it's not Tori, then why are you guys seen going back into the house? >> I didn't go back into the house. That >> Why are two guys that are described like you seen going back into the house? >> I didn't go back into the house. So, that's not true. It was not >> No, no, no. I'm saying it was not me. It was not to worry. >> Okay. I have then who would it be? >> I had no clue. At school I told you people that their movie Home Alone told >> cuz you loved Cassie, right? >> Yes. >> And there's no way in the world you could ever hurt Cassie. >> Exactly. Not hurt Cassie >> in a million years. >> No, that's the truth. >> All right, man. Cassie, >> let your folks uh kind of know if they might want to talk to you and stuff. Get that. >> Can I go outside now? >> Mom and dad's going to come talk to you. >> Okay. Okay. And I'm And I will tell you right from the beginning, okay? I promise you, okay? Look at me. If you had something to do with this, I'm going to find out. >> Yes. If you didn't do this, I'm going to be the best friend you ever had. Okay? I promise you that because I am not going to rest until I prove that you did not do this. Okay. You I give you that guarantee. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> She'll write it for you, bro. I think so. >> As it wrapped up, Ryan Draper and Tori Adam chickic were both charged with firstdegree homicide. Just when you think that you've seen it all, along comes 19-year-old Nicholas Cruz, a troubled student whose rejection turned into a obsession. One that became reality when he unleashed terror at Parkland High School, taking 17 lives and leaving 17 more fighting to survive. >> Holy [screaming] demons, man. >> Demons. What the [ __ ] >> Where am I? Holy. What happened? >> Shut up. >> Should be quiet, man. >> On the 14th of February, 2018, a man named Nicholas Cruz, driven by social rejection, spiraled into darkness and carried out an unthinkable [music] act. It all began with a chilling recording he made, one that sent shivers down the spine of anyone who had watched it. >> Hello, my name is Nick and I'm going to be the next school of 2018. My goal is at least 20 people with an AR-15 and a couple trace rounds. I think I can dig it done. Location is Stone Douglas in Parkland, Florida. It's going to be a big event. And when you see me on the news, you'll all know who I am. [laughter] You're all going to Yeah. Can't wait. Today is the day. The day that it be all begins. The day of my m shall begin. All the kids in school will run in fear and hide. From the wrath of my power, they will know who I am. I am nothing. I am no one. My life is nothing and meaningless. Everything that I hold dear, I let go beyond your half. Every day I see the world ending another day. I live a lone life, live in seclusion and solitude. I hate everyone and everything. With the power of my AR, you will all know who I am. I had enough of being told what to do and when to do. I had enough of being telling me that I'm an idiot and a dumb, but in real life, you're all the dumb ass. You're all stupid and brainwashed by these political government programs. You will all see, you will all know who my name is. My love for you, Angie, will never go away. I hope to see you in the afterlife. from one day or another, it will end and we'll all right. So, here's the plan. I'm going to go take an Uber in the afternoon before 2:40. From there, I'll go into the onto school campus, walk up the stairs, load my bags, and get my AR and people down at the main was it the main courtyard. I'll wait and people will Fueled by rejection and a burning need for revenge, [music] Nicholas set his plan into motion, leaving behind devastation so great its impact would echo through history. Holy. Oh my god. Oh my god. [screaming] Nicholas stormed into the school armed and unleashed chaos, leaving 17 lives cut short and many more wounded. By the time officers rushed in after security's desperate call, the unthinkable had already been done. >> Hands. Hands. Put your hands. Put your phones away. Put your phones away. >> Hands. Put your hands. >> Put your phones away. Put your phones away. >> Yeah. Take a look there. Yeah, these are [music] these are more kids that are uh uh being escorted out. These out of the western side of the building there. You can see them still filing out from that uh uh three-story building. Uh again, we indicated earlier that [music] when the school does go on lockdown, uh they'll the the police when they do go in, they go doortodoor [music] there and make sure that each room is secure. And what they're doing now is uh they're doing accountability here for uh all the students and the faculty that are still inside the school here. And you can see that uh they come out with their hands raised Nicholas walked out of the school with no trace of remorse. as if he hadn't just committed one of the darkest crimes in history. But it didn't take long for the law to close in, and his reaction was nothing short of shocking. Heat. Heat. What's going on? What's going on today, bro? >> The demons, man. >> Demons. >> Voices. >> Yeah, no problem. >> Voices. >> Voices and demons. Where's the voices? >> What the Where the am I? Holy. What happened? >> Shut up. >> Just be quiet, man. >> Shut up. >> Even with his arrest, the surviving students were left shaken to their core, knowing just how close they had come to being taken on a one-way trip to the great beyond. And their account of the incident was even more disturbing. >> We saw a lot of >> That's how you saw body. I saw videos of people injured and it's terrible. >> Oh my god. And what what were you thinking at the time? >> I was thinking like I hope I'm okay. >> I was praying to God thinking that he could save us all and that we could make it up. Like I called my parents and my it was just all crazy and like all you could think about is oh my god my family, my friends, everything. like them. [snorts] >> You never think it would happen to you, but it does. >> The bullets I I saw a whole bunch of bullets that were much like this big. They around that big. >> They let us out. We We heard the police. They let us out and then all you could see is them dragging this boy's body down the stairs.
