On January 27th, 2024, an officer on patrol in Walkegan, Illinois, located a stolen Hyundai Elantre parked in a Starbucks parking lot with two suspects sleeping inside. The driver, later identified as 27-year-old April Reigns, was about to get a surprise wakeup call. All right. >> Nice. I like it. We found this video at Patrol Cam Live. Looks pretty good. And again, it's time for body cam bingo. So, we're going to try this out. We've got some good boxes on here. We're still looking for feedback. So, if you've got any ideas on something better than what I have in these boxes, put it in the comments and we can always change this. This isn't a hard document yet. So, let's play and figure it out. >> Hey, you don't see anybody in it, do you? Is there? All right. All right. I like it. All right, let's sleep. Oh, sleeping. Take a little nappy poo. >> There we go. >> Get out the car. Get out the car. Get out the car. Get out the car. Get out the car. Get out the car. I like it. >> Keep your hands up. Keep your hands up. >> Get out the car. Come out right now. We're going to pull you out. Get out of the car. >> Keep your hands up. Keep your hands up. Come out. Come out right now. We're going to pull you out. >> Out of the car. >> Pull her out. >> Pull out. Pull out. Pull. Pull out. Pull. >> Pull out. Pull out. Pull. Pull out. Pull. Whoa. >> Whoa. >> Stop the car. [Applause] >> Wow. >> Whoa. >> Get him. Get him. >> Whoa. Wow. We box cars in in SWAT quite a bit. It's a it's a technique that we use to mobilize vehicles. Um, but when you box a car in, you can't let there be 1 ft of room in order for that car to move. It needs to be vehicle touching and vehicle touching. Um, so their idea was good and that she was boxed in between those two cars. And if they just would have pinned it in in the front and back, a lot of this awesome body worn camera video wouldn't be an issue because that vehicle wouldn't have been able to move. So, it was a great idea and it it just could have been applied better. >> What? What? What? >> Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. I didn't do anything. Ow, sir. Sir, I didn't do anything. >> I I didn't even fight with you. What am I getting in trouble with? No, you just you can stand in the psych. >> Oh, wow. [Music] >> Come here. >> Here comes this. >> Hey, can I get one more over here? >> Just stop. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> I'm trying to >> Put your hands behind your back. Did he just say I'm trying to do it? >> It's easy. It looks like this. >> Very easy. >> Stand still. >> Now there's a puppy there. So there was a wet puppy nose that entered this scenario. And when people hear a barking dog, especially a barking police dog like a Belgian Malininoa or German Shepherd, Czech Shepherd, one of those, those aren't they're not nice when they're working. Like those dogs are they're meant to bite you. That's what they do. They're a patrol dog. And when one of those enters the chat, everything changes. And I'm kind of hoping that that's what changed this suspect's mind from an an active resistance to, hey, I'm going to put my hands behind my back. Don't let that dog gnaw on me. Maybe it worked. [Music] Look at this crazy woman. Holy cow. Now we're talking. >> Keep your pedal on it. >> I hope this guy's going to go in behind her. Here we go. Now spin that around. Put the push bumper up in the back. Now we're talking. >> Hey, put your gun away. Put your gun away. Don't shoot. >> Good. I like that. >> Just know we're not going to [ __ ] jump on it. >> Break the window. [Music] This small car did a bunch of damage here. If it would have been just a little bit bigger and a little bit taller with a little bit more clearance, she would have backed up over that curb and been gone. And then you would have been talking about a pursuit and obviously she had a absolute blatant disregard for the safety of anyone else. Um, this would have been bad. So, they're lucky that she was just in a small car, but this could have been terrible. Wow. >> Oh, yeah. Yes. >> Get on the ground. >> Get on your face. >> And down you go. >> You're under arrest. >> Yes. Do not move. Do you understand? >> Oh, that was so satisfying. >> What if she has nothing? >> Passenger gets out and runs uh and is then taken into custody and then resists a little bit. Um yeah, we're going to we're going to arrest you if you're in a stolen car cuz you're sleeping in a parking lot. So, you probably know that you're in a stolen car and you can't know that you're in a stolen car and be in a stolen car. So, these officers did great. I mean, that's chasing that guy down, taking him into custody. Um, you know, he resisted and they were unbelievably nice to him and didn't use I mean, used almost no force against him. Um, which he probably deserved some force because he was absolutely not being compliant. So, I think he got off pretty lucky on this one. Joshua was charged with resisting an officer in criminal trespass to vehicle and was released after being booked at the police department. During the chaos, April managed to run one of the officers over with the open car door, breaking his ribs in the process. >> Wow. >> After being transported to the Criminal Investigations Division for questioning, she climbed into the ceiling to escape and injured another officer's hand when they were pulling her down. She was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a peace officer. Aggravated battery of a peace officer with a deadly weapon. Aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. Three counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer. Criminal damage to property. Two counts of aggravated driving under the influence. Improper use of registration or title. Reckless driving. Operating an uninsured motor vehicle. And driving without a license. >> So many great charges. In March of 2025, April was sentenced to 7 years in prison as a result of this case. >> Outstanding. That's exactly where she needs to be. This scenario now, one officer had his ribs broken, which is that's pretty serious. Um it could as far as officer injury, this could have been way worse. And this is in a small car. Um anytime you move around cars that are moving and someone aggressively trying to flee, the the level of danger increases exponentially. It's just you could be run over. Um, you know, you can be pinned between vehicles. There's all sorts of stuff that can happen with this. Um, and for this scenario to be as aggressive as it was and only to have just some broken ribs, everyone here got off pretty lucky. And she got some great prison time out of it. So, I'm happy for that. I'm happy that she was at least held accountable. And right now, this very minute, she's in prison. She can't hurt anyone else. With this video, I got I got none of these. I maybe we might have had saying I'm not resisting while resisting um on the passenger, but he really didn't say it. So, I got nothing. I got no no squares on this one. So, better luck next time. Something you can have luck with though is being a member. So, you can get early access to these videos, Cool Fries with Frank Badge, and whenever we do our live videos, you get to be a part of it. So, you get all that stuff. Go to my homepage, join, and you get all the benefits. Plus, I make random videos.
