From 44-year-old Uzma Shamsi, an entitled Karen lawyer who was brought down a peg after she was caught helping herself with unpaid merchandise. >> I'm running for mayor of Monroe County. >> Uh-huh. >> Um I went to Yale and Yale Law School. >> Okay. >> I'm a grad and you don't know who you're >> Okay. >> I'm wearing $1,000 socks. >> Okay. >> And I have a need to steal from the store. >> And she was putting some stuff inside the plastic bag. Okay. And what is it? >> It's looks like something from this store. >> So this immigration lawyer, she quickly resorted to one of her lawyerly defenses after her shoplifting spree was abruptly brought to an end by a no-nonsense Florida cop. >> You witnessed everything? Saw it? Saw her? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yes, I saw her stealing from the store. >> right. >> The other one, I have clear as day footage of her not even touching the check-lane. She didn't take her anything. >> I can go ahead and pay for all the losses that you guys have had because of my situation and if we don't take it to the >> Another object. >> I'm just going through something. I did not mean to shoplift. >> There are moments when Karen lawyers get humiliated by no-BS cops. Meet Sandra J. Doorly, a district attorney who had the illusion that she had the right to break traffic laws without any consequences. >> I'm the DA. I was going 55 coming home from work. >> 55 in a 35? >> I don't really care. Okay, let me get you my badge. I am the DA of Monroe County. Fine. You know what I've been dealing with all day? Three in the city. And do you think I really care if I was going 20 miles over the speed limit? >> On April the 22nd, 2024, a Webster police officer attempted [music] to initiate a lawful traffic stop after observing a black SUV traveling at 55 mph in a 35 zone. The driver, later identified as Monroe County District Attorney Sandra J. Doorly, appeared unable to accept that she was being pulled over. She was a D.A. after all and clearly believed that the officer had no authority to [music] stop her. >> I'm the D.A. I was going 55 coming home from work. >> 55 in a 35? >> I don't really care. >> Okay. >> So you can call me >> Can you come Can you please come over here? You're on a This is on a traffic stop, ma'am. >> Yes, it is. You can call Dennis Cormier right now. >> Okay, I'm telling you why I stopped you. You didn't stop at all. Did you not hear my lights or sirens or anything? >> actually. I was on the phone. >> Okay. Well, you're not supposed to be on the phone while you're driving, either. >> Yes, I am with the hands-free, absolutely. >> Okay. Why are you so upset at me? I'm doing my job. You You just admitted to me that you were going 55 in a 35 on Phillips Road. >> I'd like you to leave me alone. It's >> Officer Chrisafulli. >> Chrisafulli. >> Can you stay over here, ma'am? You're This is a traffic This is a This is a legal traffic stop. Do you have your ID? >> No, it's in my purse. Here. >> You have your purse right there? >> No, this is my lunch. Would you talk to your Talk to Dennis. This is ridiculous. >> There's no way. >> Hello, sir. Good. Ma'am, can you please stay at the back This is a legal Ma'am, this is a legal traffic stop. Can you please stay over here? >> No. Hey baby, get your little guy out of here. >> Sir, I stopped her for going 55 in a 35 on Phillips Road. >> Road. >> And she failed to stop. She drove all the way back home and parked in her garage. And now she's not She's not complying with any of my commands. Ma'am, do not go inside. >> Oh my god. >> Yep. Yep. All right. Ma'am, come outside. You can't just go inside. This is a traffic stop. Here's your phone back. >> I understand the law better than you. Would you >> 953, can you have a supervisor come to the scene? >> No. Get out of my >> I don't know why I don't know why you're acting like this towards me. >> Because >> Can you please go to the back of the vehicle? >> I'm not going to. I'm home. I was going I was [music] Okay, 55 >> care if you got home. You were supposed to stop at Phillips Road when I pulled you over. When my lights were initiated. >> know you were stopping me. There was lots other people on the road. >> I was right behind you. >> Yeah, there were other people on the road, too. >> Okay, I was directly behind you. >> with you right now. >> Can you please step over here? >> I'm not going to. >> For reasons known only to her, Sandra seemed convinced that her office as the District Attorney in Monroe County placed her above the law, and that neither the officer nor his superiors had the authority to hold her accountable for her actions. >> What is the reason you're you're so against what I'm doing? I'm doing my job. You say you're a DA? >> I am the DA. >> Okay. >> Okay, let me get you my badge. I am the DA of Monroe County. >> I just don't understand the hostility towards me. I'm doing my job. >> And you're being >> How am I being an a >> I am the DA of Monroe County. >> I understand that, but that doesn't give you a right to go 55 in a 35. And you even admitted to me that you went 55 I understand that, ma'am. I understand that. >> don't You know what? If you give me a traffic ticket, that's fine. I'm the one who prosecutes it, okay? Just go ahead and do it. Go ahead. >> I just don't understand the hostility. I understand you're coming home from work. >> And half the time I was on the phone with Dennis, telling him, "Why are you pulling me over?" >> You're not even supposed to be on the phone to begin with. You should know that. Oh oh oh >> I'm hands-free. Absolutely. You should know the law. >> Okay. If it is hands-free, that's great. But at the end of the day, you were going 55 in a 35. That's 20 miles over the speed limit. >> Okay, you know what? That's fine. You know what I've been dealing with all day? Three murders in the city. And do you think I really care if I was going 20 miles over the speed limit? >> Hey, >> just doing my job. If you pulled If you pulled over when you saw my lights, which obviously you did, >> I thought you were going somewhere else because I thought no one would ever pull a black SUV if you ran my plates. >> I didn't run your plate. I just called your plate out. And then I'm following you because you're not stopping. So I had to take the air from dispatch. >> Just please. >> Hey 53, you can have the air back, by the way. >> Copy >> Just come outside over here. >> No, I'm not going outside. >> Okay. >> I'm waiting for you just to leave. >> Well, I'm having a supervisor come cuz that's what my chief told me to do. >> 53, let me out of my room. No. This is a >> Do you have your driver's license? >> I just showed you my driver's license. >> Show me your Show me your badge. >> 10-4 >> Really? >> We have a 14-year-old having a seizure 200 Eastern Road. Road, coming 200 on the third floor. >> Because I was going 55 up to speed limit. >> 10-4, get your unit over here. >> And I was just trying to >> of the She's a DA. >> Yep, I know. And I was just trying to pull into my driveway. I was on the phone with Dennis Kolodziej saying, "Would you please tell the person who's following me that I'm just almost home?" >> Ma'am, I understand you were going home, but I started my lights back at Phillips Road. >> I'm on Phillips Road, yes, you did. And there were other cars. >> I was right behind you, directly behind you. At the end of the Listen, at the end of the day >> Go ahead if you want to write me a traffic ticket, that's fine. >> Okay, at the end of the day at the end of the day, I was stopping you for speed. If you had just stopped, >> day. I've been dealing with >> Ma'am, I get it. Ma'am, I get it. We have bad days also, ma'am. >> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. >> We have bad days also. I'm going to just add it to the job real quick. You can just go and actually add it. You don't have to use the air. At the end of the day, I was just making a traffic stop, doing my job, what I'm supposed to do. Okay. So, now supervisor's on his way and then we'll go from there. Huh? Sergeant Johnson. I understand you had it like I get it. I We all have bad days at work. Well, this is a traffic stop and I you out of everyone should know that if there's a legal traffic stop, which I have, I have the right to detain you until this is done. >> Then just write me the ticket. I really don't care. >> Okay. Well, then just hang out at the back of the car. >> Because I'm the one that's going to prosecute myself. >> I Okay. Just come out here for me and just stand >> While the officer was still trying to get DA Dorley to comply with his instructions, backup officers arrived at the scene, but almost immediately something she said made it clear to them that even a full team of officers would struggle to make a conceited DA abide by the very law she claimed to uphold. >> Corey, you just want to stand up here. Yeah, as long as this is related to the job. Sergeant on his way? >> Cuz he said 10-4. >> Okay. >> He turned around and he didn't know that it was me. I wasn't sure because there were other cars going back and forth. Then I got to turning into the Crest and I'm like, I'm just going to drive home." That's what I did. So, that's the end of the story. And I got on the phone with Dennis. I don't know. Even before I turned before I turned in and said, you know, it's me that they're stopping. Just tell them it's me. So, I don't know if that's true. >> That's what we do. >> General rule of thumb, if you see an electric company >> 942 >> I don't know what their other cars are supposed to do. I'm just going to pull in. >> You have any issues now? >> I would advise against that. I mean, you're supposed to pull off to the side of the road if somebody with their emergency lights is coming behind you anyways. >> Yeah, I just I just >> Corey, Corey, it's fine. Just We're having supervisors come, and then we'll go from there. >> Oh, come on. Just >> I I This is what my chief wants. That's At the end of the day, you called him. I spoke to him on your phone, and this is what he wants. >> him again, seriously. It's like you're getting fried neighbors. Seriously, there's three officers here already. I'm waiting for a supervisor. >> You guys can go. You guys go. I'll wait here with Wait for sergeant or LT. Sounds like LT's coming though. >> Oh, thank goodness. I was going 20 miles an hour over the speed limit up hills. I didn't pull over. I just figured I'd drive to my driveway instead. You shouldn't have run the plate. It's a big black machine. >> Within minutes, the supervisor arrived, ready to take control of the situation and prevent any further escalation, mindful of her reputation. However, her response made it clear that she had little regard for her image or the damage her continued attitude could cause to her name. >> It's really It's really big of you. So, it's turning into a much bigger deal. >> Well, you can't You can't say that, you know? Well, who wants to do that? Your job because of you? >> No, it's fine. I said, "Write me a ticket." >> But I was just saying >> I was not going to stop at those roads at 5:30. >> Well, you broke it on purpose then. Right? You should know better than anyone. This is not traffic. This is not an arrestable offense. You know you >> I don't have my license or anything to show officer. >> Why would you have to make it a bigger deal than it needed to be? Maybe you are here to get yourself in a I didn't ask you to have a conversation with me in the middle of this. I don't want to be here. I don't want Did you provide me with your identification? >> Yes. Yes. >> You have your ID? >> I gave it back to her. It's all attached to the job and everything, so. >> I didn't want to stop in the toll circle. I was right down the street. I figured I would just stop in my driveway. That's what I figured. I thought I thought it would be easier. >> All right, ma'am. So, I'm issuing you speeding zone 55 in a 35. >> I'll take care of it since I'll be prosecuting myself. >> Okay. At the end of the day if you see my lights and sirens behind you and obviously they're going off, just pull over. We can have a conversation and be on our way. I kept my eye on your vehicle. I'm not going to check my computer to see what plate it is if a vehicle is not stopping for me. I want to keep my eyes on that vehicle for my safety so I make it home at the end of the day. Okay? I I'm sorry that you had a bad day >> Yeah. >> and I'm sorry it went this way, but I do respect what you do. Have a good day, ma'am. >> In the end, [music] DA Dorly was charged with failure to comply with a traffic stop and in a statement the following day, Dorly apologized for her [music] conduct and informed the public that she had pleaded guilty to the speeding ticket. Just like DA Dorly who got knocked right off her high horse, Sheila Jones got a slice of humble pie after she tried to use her position as an attorney to bully her neighbors into giving up their property. >> I think she's an attorney. >> She said I need a car. I'm going to have to fight against you. I'm going to have to fight against both of you. >> I would like to help talking to the people that are protecting me so I can see if they would like me to answer questions. I don't think they want me to answer questions. I am. >> No. On April the 23rd, 2023, officers responded to a residence following a report of a domestic [music] disturbance. Upon arrival, they approached the suspect, later identified as Sheila Jones. Her purpose is speaking with her to better understand the situation. Instead of cooperating, however, she devised a calculated way to avoid questioning altogether. >> Where is she at? >> [clears throat] >> Where is she at? Your chick's pregnant? Ma'am, you want to step it out for me? Ma'am, it's a called out police. Step out for me, please. Can I talk to you? Come over here for me. Ma'am, step over here for me so I can talk to you, please. Ma'am, step over here so I can talk to you, please. You're not listening. Either you step over here, I'm going to go over there. All right, turn around. Turn around. Turn around. Turn around. Turn around and put your hands behind your back now. Put your hands behind your back. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. STOP. STOP. STOP. STOP. STOP. WE'RE GOING TO GET UP NOW? ARE YOU going to calm down? You're going to calm for me? Okay, we're going to get up and we're going to do this again. >> Okay, sit up Kevin. >> Sit up. Put your hands behind your back now. Thank you. All you got to do is just listen now. What do you want to do Kevin? Let's go. >> You were right I guess. >> Go ahead. Okay. Well, we're going to we're going to try >> You were right way obvious. >> We're going to try this again. >> Okay. >> Take a deep breath for me, okay? We're going to figure out what's going on, but you Next time when I tell you to step out, you don't go against what I'm telling you cuz I'm here to >> What do I do? >> That's what I'm here for. I'm here to help you. But you need >> help me. >> Well, I've never dealt with you before. >> I know. >> So >> I know. >> Don't think that every cop is the same. I'm here to figure out what's going on so I can better fix your so I can provide you with the solution to the problem, okay? >> Okay. >> Let's go to my car. We'll get you an ambulance and then we'll we'll go from there. >> I don't need an ambulance. I'm good. I'm good. Let's just go right now. >> Well, let's we'll talk about let's go talk about what happened first. We're going to go to my car, okay? Come on. >> Okay. >> What's your name? >> Am I supposed to give you my name? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Sheila. >> Sheila what? >> Am I supposed to give you my full name? >> Yes. 01 cross better run now. Sheila Do you have any weapons on you, Sheila? No? >> No. >> All right. What's going on today? Why were we called here? >> I don't know. >> You don't know why we were called here? In a verbal altercation with this with with this other female that we just walked by. Do you do you recall any of that? >> Yeah. >> You do? Okay, do you want to tell me a little bit about that? >> Yeah. >> You don't? >> Okay. >> As the officers continued to pressure Sheila for an answer, one thought dominated her in She would respond on her own terms. And if things escalated, she believed that as a solicitor, she could handle herself. >> Do you live here at these apartments? Do you live at these apartments, Sheila? Do you not want to talk right now? >> I'm trying to listen. >> You're trying to listen? Well, let me help you. You need to try your best to answer my questions so I can figure out what's going on. Does anybody else stay with you in the apartment that you were at? Was that even your apartment? Sit down for a Take a seat. Watch your feet. Put your feet inside. >> After placing her in the back of the police cruiser, the officers turned to the couple who had made the initial report. Somehow they had expected to hear one of these routine accounts of a domestic incident between neighbors, but they were going to be met with a set of deeply disturbing details that were far from ordinary. >> Do you have a What's your name at? I'm sorry? >> She was just I was minding my business and minding my business I was walking whatever in these shoes. Came right here and she's like, "What is your car where you going?" All this and I said, "I have to get my son and stuff." And And then she left and stuff and then I went inside and put my son's stuff in there cuz they look like I just felt in my gut like she was looking for something or >> Yeah. >> something not wrong or she parked or something and >> Okay. So She was saying that? Okay. >> She was trying to fight her. >> she like this, bro. She like this. She like >> She even tried to open it twice. >> Oh. >> She not letting me right now, but I had a lot like it's not take like >> Okay. >> And then she comes over here, bro. >> Try to get inside my house. >> She tried going inside the house, bro. I don't know why. Just get to keep that. I would say it wrong with the car. >> Pregnant and she got me. >> Okay. >> I had to like >> Did she like raise her hand like she was going to hit you at all or anything or >> No, but I I kept telling him, "Please go. I You go over there or you take off somewhere, please. I go do something. >> She rushed at him. >> She rushed at him more than me. >> Okay. >> And I screamed at her and told her that I'm pregnant. I shouldn't be doing screaming, stressing, anything like that. >> were you doing? You were just cleaning out the vehicle? >> I was cleaning my car with my kids, too. >> To [music] to go to go to go to go get your son. And she came right here and was like Okay. She needed a car for her baby. >> She needed a car, basically. >> Okay. >> I seen her a couple days back that she had a newborn baby. >> live in that apartment that I found her at or no? >> Oh, he said >> Well, last Yeah, I suppose I I think so cuz like like last time I went to go wash she she she was talking to me and she tried talking to me, but she was gone, bro. She can't talk to me right. And she had a newborn baby there, bro. That's what tripped me out. She had a newborn baby. And then she had a newborn baby. Uh-huh, and I told her what what I saw you last time with a newborn baby. She was doing all that and all that. What's your baby? What your baby is like, "All right, that's why I need a car. I need to go get my baby." >> Upon hearing this detail, the officers became concerned about the welfare of Sheila's kids and decided to search her apartment. What they didn't know, however, was that the search was about to reveal the very real reason behind Sheila's [music] egotistical attitude. >> She has kids, so >> Yeah. >> Let's just make sure they're not like hurt in here or something. Yeah, she has pictures of kids right here on her [snorts] fridge. >> Yeah, I don't see like a crib or like nothing. Anything that would suggest she's in the home with her. >> This place is a mess, dude. I think she's an attorney. Yeah. Criminal justice, Sheila Moynihan, Sheila Jones. Juris doctor, this attorney's Oh, both is over there. Elizabeth Kerr, clerk of the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit do hereby certify that Sheila Carlsbad, New Mexico being duly qualified was admitted as an attorney and counselor of the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. >> Meanwhile, sitting inside the police cruiser appeared to be deflating [music] Sheila's ego. Just when it seemed like the reality became too difficult to handle, she lost it completely. >> I'm not going to just trust everybody because that's ridiculous. It's ridiculous and I'll give >> [laughter] >> Baby, why do I have to do this to them? Baby, I just want my baby. I know. I know I love baby. That's how life's always been. I can't just do what everyone tells you to do because then it won't work out. I'll be always like, "Why don't you listen to people when that's the Look at the quality and caliber of people around me." >> Back at the couple's residence, officers continued listening as the details of Sheila's actions unfolded. At first, they immediately assumed she might not be mentally stable. However, upon learning that she was an attorney, it began to dawn on them that she may have been [music] attempting to use her position to intimidate the couple. >> Well, at first, she rushed into the house. She ran into the house like trying to get into the house. >> Did she make it inside or >> She made it to the doorbell but I wanted to see how far she was going to take you know cuz like I was going to see what was up. So, she she did get to the doorbell. She touched the doorbell and then I put I started pushing her away from the door. I pushed her over here. I told her move go over there go over there and then she tried coming into the car again and then she was saying she was saying I need a car. >> You felt like she was going to hit you like >> Yeah, she said it. She was like I'm going to have to I'm going to have to I always she said it. She said it. She was like I'm going to have to I'm going to have to fight against you. I'm going to have to fight against both of you. And I was just like damn this really like look at this girl. Girl, wasn't she saying that she was going to like take on both of us? >> Yeah, she was saying that. >> And I and then she left. She was like I'm she said I need a weapon or something. I need something. >> Do we run this 28 already? When she gets released, she's not going to be able to come anywhere near you guys because you guys are victims of of the crimes that she's committed, okay? So, it's called the conditions of release. The judge is going to sign not to she can't have any contact with you guys. If you guys still feel like you're in in fear for your safety, like you feel like she's going to come back, retaliate, she's going to cause more issues for you, especially with you being pregnant, I I highly recommend going and getting a restraining order. >> After listening to the couple, they turned to Sheila again. That was the officer giving her another chance to tell them her own side of the story. But instead of taking it, she decided to show them how conceited a lawyer she could be. >> You're all right? >> Not really. >> No? >> I'd like to be out of these cuffs. Can you please uncuff me? >> No, ma'am. So, at this point on like yeah, like I said you're under arrest for resisting, okay? >> Why do you in the I need to [music] talk to Okay. >> What I was going >> help speaking with the people that are protecting me. Can you help me talk to the people that are protecting me? >> We can talk about that, yes ma'am, but >> Can you I am okay. Now >> But first let me finish up let me let me finish what I'm doing, okay? Cuz I tried to talk to you a minute ago and you just you're may you You say anything, which is which is fine. But now I need to ask you some questions pertaining to the sensitive area. But before I do that, I'm going to read you your rights. With these rights in mind, [music] do you wish to answer my questions? Or do you want to do you want to use your rights and remain silent? >> With the people I would like to keep talking to the people that are protecting me, so I can see if they would like me to answer questions. I don't think they want me to answer questions. >> No? Well, at the end of the day it's at the end of the day it's it's your decision. Because you're the one that you're you're the defendant in this in this incident here. You're the one that's being placed under arrest for these alleged crimes, so you don't want to answer questions. That's fine. So at this point now, like I said, you are under arrest. We're going to take you down to the Carlsbad Medical Center so we can get you medically cleared because we did have a little use of force with you cuz you were refusing to cooperate. So we'll check you out, make sure you're not hurt, and then we'll take you down to the Eddy County Detention Center, okay? And then if you want to talk a little more about who's protecting you, I can I can talk to you about that. [music] Let me ask you one question if you don't mind. Do you have children? >> Yes. >> Any juvenile children that are in your care? >> Do you have any juvenile children in >> In your care, [music] yes, ma'am. Anybody that you care for at this time? >> That's like physically in my custody and care of >> Yes, ma'am. Okay. Do you have like a newborn baby or any children that you're caring for recently? >> How many kids do you have? What do you say to make sure that they're safe and they're okay? >> Cuz we're being told that you have that you've been seen with children. We just want to make sure that that they're in that they're in good hands. >> Do you know how many kids you have? Or who's watching them? You can just give me a name. Is it a family member? Is it CYFD? Ultimately, if you refuse to answer these questions and something happened, it's going to be on you, not on us. Cuz you're refusing to answer our questions. We just need to make sure that they're being taken care of at this point. All right, we're going to get out of here, okay? Watch your feet. Told you she didn't want to talk. Hey, Sheila. Where's Mecha right now? What What do you got to know? All right, we can take care of her. Is Mecha with Mikey? You don't know where she's at? I still got Mikey's number. I can call him and ask him, but I would like to hear from you where she's at. >> After I failed attempt to get her to talk to them, they decided to take her to the hospital where she was medically examined. >> Okay, Sheila, we're at the hospital now. We're going to go inside. They're going to check you out, make sure you're not hurt, and then um and then we'll go from there, okay? We'll try to get you some slippers or something so you're not If you want to, I I don't want you stepping on a sticker or something. We're going to go through here. Have you ever been here before? She didn't want to answer any of my questions, either, so. >> Do you know anything about her? >> I don't, to be honest with you. Do you need something? You can't Hold on, you can't go anywhere. Sit down. >> She was later charged with resisting arrest. The next case takes us to Darien, Illinois, where 44-year-old Uzma Shamsi resorted to hitting a cop after a failed attempt to lawyer her way out of a pilfering situation. >> I'm not a young spring chicken. >> But you have to understand, we're your >> an attorney. >> And she was putting some stuff inside the plastic bag. Okay, and what is it? It's uh looks like something from bakery. >> I went to law school. >> Then I guess we need to follow you to the >> don't know where you went to the academy. >> On February the 12th, 2026, 44-year-old Uzma Shamsi, a Yale Law graduate, walked into a Walmart store, but instead of shopping like every other customer, she decided to treat the aisles like her personal buffet by helping herself to dog toys and brownie items. Unknown to her, the store's surveillance system was an unblinking eye that was about to bring her five-finger discount performance to an abrupt, shameful end. When loss prevention officers realized that she was about to leave the store without paying for the merchandise, they immediately called the police. >> The nacho chips and dessert for my kids' party. >> Give me your just give me your hands, all right? That's fine. Thank you. Passport? >> Nothing. He's like I have all my receipts. He's like Oh, we have to go to the office and verify. >> Okay. What happened? >> Look, my cards are here. >> Okay, I got it. Do you have your driver's license first off, so I know who I'm talking to? >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> But look at me. >> We'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. >> But okay, I have to go pick up my son. >> Okay, well, right now we have to deal with this. >> No, I have to go pick up my son. I will leave the car. >> I need your driver's license. >> I'm leaving the car. >> Hello? Hello? You're not free to go right now. I need your driver's license. >> I am free to go. >> No, you're not. >> Yeah, because I will leave the car. >> No, you're not because we're investigating. >> enough money that I can leave the car. >> Okay. >> I don't give a care about chips and >> I get it. Okay. You need to calm down. >> I don't care about groceries. >> Okay. Okay. My It's license is in the car. And I'm like, where did I park? >> Okay. >> So, what I can give you is my passport card. You know. Here, my passport card and my birth certificate since I'm I think brown and second generation, but I have to carry that around >> So, tell me tell me what happened. >> Nothing. I have to go pick up my son. >> At this point, you're not free to go right now. >> Um can I leave this stuff? >> No. will leave it. >> No. >> Guys, I have to go. >> You cannot right now. >> I can. I can leave that. >> No, you can't. >> I have to pick up my son. >> No, you can't. I don't want to have to do >> I I don't even care he's in. >> Well, the officers knew the suspect was trying to pull a fast one on them with their claims, but what they didn't see coming was her next line. >> I don't have to detain you. >> You're making this into a way bigger deal. >> Guys, I'm not a young spring chicken. >> But you have to understand where >> I'm an attorney. I know my rights. If I leave that I have the right to leave the premises. >> You do not. >> That's what's holding me here. >> No, it's not holding you. >> I'm not under investigation. >> The longer this goes >> I want to leave with that. I'm under investigation. >> No, you've already left the store. So, he's called us saying you stole from the store. >> I didn't steal from the store. >> Well, did you steal from the store? >> The store's right there. >> That's what we're going to figure out. >> If you did nothing wrong >> We'll figure it out. >> But I have to pick up my son and he's waiting outside. >> Okay. We'll We'll figure it out here quick. >> Where do you live? >> In Downers Grove. >> Okay, we could send a Downers Grove unit over there to make sure he's okay until we get this figured out. >> But my son is not in Downers Grove. He's in Lisle. >> Okay, well, then we'll send a Lisle >> But I don't want that. >> figure this out. >> Okay, we don't have to figure it out. I will leave that because I have more than enough money to leave and go shopping elsewhere. >> Listen. >> I'm saying Look, my son is special. >> Listen, I don't want to have to put you in handcuffs. >> That's not what's going to happen. Until we can figure this out. >> Just cooperate with us. >> He's accusing me of stealing. He can have it back. >> Okay. Well, now where are we at with this? >> I'm walking away. >> No, you're not. This is the last time I'm >> I'm not going to tell you again. The next time you don't cooperate with us, >> [music] >> you're going to go in handcuffs. So, you're going to come back to the store here and we're going to figure this out. >> Wait, really? >> Yes, that's exactly what's going to happen. >> Okay. You can't just take this back in there and be like she didn't steal it. I'll just have to >> We're going to figure it out with you [music] in there. Listen, at best, if something did happen, they trespass you from the property and you never come back. At worst right now, we got to put you in handcuffs and it gets a lot worse. So, pick anything you want. >> a food item >> He accused me of stealing and I say I didn't steal. >> Then they owe you a big apology and you can leave. >> from the app. Like literally my >> Well, I guess Walmart will owe you an apology, right? >> And and you should probably call corporate. Yes. >> Well, yeah. >> So, let's let's go let's go figure this out. >> I connected my Walmart app to for register, okay? Uh I paid with Walmart Pay. They will give me a refund. >> Okay, we'll talk we'll we'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. >> I know. I understand but I understand but the longer that we're arguing about this is the longer this takes. >> Look, I'm running for mayor of Gainesville. >> Uh-huh. >> Um I went to Yale and Yale Law School. >> Okay. >> You don't know who you're >> We I'm not with anyone. >> You are. You are. >> Okay. >> You're taking this man who's in the wrong. Um probably like in a detention center. >> Uh-huh. >> Probably by highest Okay. Now, I'm not getting I'm not getting >> What happened on the inside? >> Now, I'm getting it. >> Okay. Well, this could be over within 10 minutes if you want it to be or it can go on for 40 minutes. So, let's go let's go figure it out. >> He knows me. I'm friends with >> Uh we'll figure it out. >> She sees me shopping here every day. >> This could be a giant misunderstanding. Keep walking. >> He's mine every day. >> Let's figure this out. What's up? 1012 >> And I'm telling you >> She got us on the phone. >> I know my rights. But I understand. >> Like I said, we're we're here investigating a crime. That's the that's the only reason we're here. >> What? >> He called us saying that you stole from the store. We're investigating your car. >> Yeah, that's right. I stole the Doritos chips. >> I don't know what to tell you. We'll we'll figure it out. >> car? >> We'll figure it out. >> Yeah. I'm wearing $1,000 socks. >> Got it. >> And I have a need to steal from the store. >> Well, then I think loss prevention is going to owe you a big apology if they're incorrect then, right? And then we fix this in a matter of minutes. >> Um >> Instead of arguing outside. >> Guys What? >> Hello. >> Yeah, you're going to owe me a huge apology. >> All right, all right. Sit down. Sit down. What happened? >> Yeah, what's your name? >> He'll He'll give you that stuff, okay? >> I'm not sitting down. >> Just sit. Sit. Okay, please. I'm asking you nicely. >> to sit if I don't want to. >> I'm just asking nicely. Please sit down. >> What's your name? >> Officer Semenak. >> Officer Semenak. Officer Burris. >> Burris, yes. >> I don't have to sit if I don't want to. >> At this point, one thing blazed unmistakably before the officers, her confidence. Yet, they couldn't quite grasp what it signified. [music] Was it the rants of an innocent victim, or just one of these lawyerly sleights of hands that could make a villain wear the mask >> [music] >> of a victim? >> [snorts] >> I have not gotten to that yet. I want to. >> I'm just saying, none of this is necessary. Um I checked out >> Where was she at? Okay, it's self >> I was walking out very carefully. >> She says she was at a regular cashier. >> She walked out of a regular cashier? >> That's what she says. No, she was at the self checkout. Were you at the self checkout, or were you at a cashier? >> For one transaction, but I was at a regular cashier for my return of dog stuff. >> You said you have a Walmart app or something? >> Yeah. >> Let's see what you got. >> Walmart app, and I used the Walmart Pay to pay for everything. >> Mhm. >> Like you know that that Like look, you scan >> I got it. >> You scan Walmart [music] the >> Okay, pull up pull up your history though so we can see what what happened, okay? So, today's February 12th, so she bought 13 items. [music] >> On one transaction. >> transaction, okay. >> Look at this, four milks. >> Okay, and what's what's the other one? >> transaction shows >> What did you say that you didn't >> has >> What did you say she didn't scan? >> What didn't she scan? >> Okay, she it goes by the bakery, okay, and she was putting some stuff inside the plastic bag. >> Okay, and what is it? >> It's uh it looks like something from bakery. I was like picking side. >> I scanned all that. >> Okay, well let's let's show me what you got. >> No, I put it in my cart. Look at the bakery items. >> So, there's Can you open? Does it If you click on it >> and >> If you click on that, does it give you the name? >> Yeah, the market blueberry bars. >> Market What What did she have that that you saw? >> I tasted it, but I'm like I'm going to buy it anyway. >> So, these? Is this what it is? >> Yes. >> And so that >> I took a bite out of those bars and took a bite out of it. >> And this one? >> Yes. >> Where Where's the other one? Okay. So, how many did you buy? >> Two. >> I know, but how many? How many? >> Here's another transaction with more. >> Okay. >> Three and three. >> Okay, so this this is what you're talking about, this stuff? Yeah. All right. >> You're a misunderstanding. There's another transaction with more and I can't find the receipt. >> So, one of those was one, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And then there's more. >> All right. >> I took a bite out of one to see what they're like, but I'm like I'm going to buy these anyway. I'm like my dad will eat them. >> Well, let's see if we can match them up and then we can clear this all up, okay? >> Yes, thank you, sir. >> Somehow, the officers were beginning to think that the situation was an honest misunderstanding until another officer revealed a shocking detail about the Yale Law graduate that was going to change [music] everything. >> I took all of her to customer service and asked what she purchased or and >> what she bought. >> I bought I returned tons of dog food that was in >> You returned a bunch of dog food and got a bunch of dog toys? >> Yeah. >> All right. Let me go ahead. >> And I bought the wrong dog food. >> All right. Let me go ahead. No. She had two warrants. They already checked the issue DUI. So, they could find her. My calls. Oh, all right. I was just I'm really sorry. Let me go >> I'm going to shop and see. >> So, you're saying at customer service you returned I assume it was $18 in dispute. Was it $18? >> No, there was $18 and then another $21. >> All right. >> It was like $40 worth of returns and I said I'm going to exchange it for this stuff. >> Okay. Got you. Let me go ask, okay? >> Okay. And he grabbed >> I'm moving both of them to the >> He grabbed them and receipts from me. >> Okay. >> He did. >> Is the only discrepancy the returned [music] item stuff? It wasn't anything else, was it? >> No, it's just because she was at the bakery >> eating. >> Okay. >> This. And I'm like, I bought it. I paid for this that I was what I was eating. >> Oh, okay. >> Look, it's on there. >> All right. Where's your Do you need us to send somebody to get your son? Is that a real thing? >> Yes. >> Where is he at? >> At his school, special school for autistic kids in Lyle. >> What's the name of it? Do you have somebody that can pick him up? >> I will get him on the >> Well, give him a call. If and I'm I'm I'm trusting in good faith that you're not lying to me cuz here's the other deal. You got a warrant. >> I know I do. It's for not showing up to court for a traffic ticket. I can show up. >> We'll We'll know. One of two things can happen with a warrant then. We if it's I can I bond you on it if they're okay with that and that's what they do when DuPage County puts out a warrant or you have to get taken to DuPage County to process. >> No, I've [music] already spoken with >> I'm going off of what I'm just telling you what my dispatchers are telling me. They're confirming it. They're talking with DuPage County about it. I understand. We have that happen all the time, but you got to go to court. >> I know. [music] Uh I have a date set. >> Then that's why they're confirming it. This is Well, this is why we take these steps to confirm the warrant, but it's been issued. So, something's been signed by a judge for you. So, >> Yeah, a judge named Aaron. I'm friends with him. >> Okay. Do you remember what time you were at the customer service? >> This is so ridiculous. I'm grocery shopping. >> Is it on the receipt? Did she have a receipt at all? >> No, she can't locate the receipt. She can't [music] find >> No, you have the receipt. >> I will show you what I got to All right, so Where did you buy those at? Did you do that? Where did you do that the plush toys at? >> At customer service. >> He says you didn't do that. You just returned two like cartons of dog food, right? >> No, it was a woman with like red hair. >> Uh >> It was a woman with like red hair with >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I talked to the guy, so I don't know. >> It was a woman with like red hair. That her with like like like braids. >> Yeah. >> Guys, it's not that big of a deal. >> Well, unfortunately, we were called here, so we have to investigate. >> Okay. Okay. What can we do to remedy this? >> That's up to Walmart. It's not >> Walmart and I uh remedy this? >> We can, but just we want to verify everything is everything is inside your shopping That's the best. >> Okay. So, how would I correct this in your eyes? >> Yeah. >> Would it make you happy if I double pay for it? >> I will not make you double pay if I locate the things. >> I stopped at a law. You are literally keeping me from getting my child. >> No, you ma'am, you can go to >> At this point, your warrant is >> What? >> You have a warrant. I just explained that. >> Yeah, for not going to court. >> Yeah, it's a failure to appear warrant, which means you didn't go to court and now you have to either A, B, I bonded it right now on the street with us, pre-trial release, thank you, or you have to go to DuPage County and get processed. >> We're finding that out now, so >> It's It's one of two things that happened here. There was a warrant issued for your arrest. >> Uh I already took care of it. No, it's taken care of. >> Where did you take care of it at? >> With the judge. I have a quash. >> Whether the officers could finally see through Shamsi's [music] antics or not was the least of her concerns. In her mind, she was well connected to powerful circles and she believed that those ties would soon come to her rescue. Or so she thought. >> Okay, where's your paperwork? >> Not on me, but there was >> to carry that paperwork with you, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> But it's not >> All right. You don't have it, right? That's the problem. It's in the system showing that you have one. So, that's what we're checking right now. It It's possible they removed >> No, that's the warrant. >> Why didn't you go to court? >> I didn't go to court and talk to the judge. I'm praying to the judge. Judge Gearing, Daniel Gearing. >> Oh, okay. >> Well, now you're being evaluated on a no-bond. You have to You want to do DuPage County. So, we can arrange this. Told you to start calling somebody for your son. I have no choice in this matter right now. You're under arrest. >> me to DuPage County? >> I There's no bond on the warrant. >> At the DuPage County jail? >> Correct. Yes. >> You guys >> Hey. >> This all started because of a couple of bags of chips. >> Hey, let me tell you. But it didn't need to get to that, right? You could have cooperated with them from the beginning and we might not even be here. But we're here now. >> Like >> Okay, but listen. We're here now. Bottom line is the judge says you didn't show up for court. The judge issued going to do warrant for you. >> to >> this. >> Yes, we do. >> Actually, no, you don't. >> Okay, um we're not playing it. We're not going to play any games here, okay? They say you have a warrant, okay? We're giving you an opportunity >> Darian, please. >> We're giving you an opportunity to call somebody to pick up your son. >> [music] >> Start calling somebody if that's the case. Like I said, I gave you the benefit of the doubt if you were telling me the truth. >> Okay, well, can the groceries I bought, like can someone come pick them up? >> Well, that would be up to them. Are you Are we satisfied with everything that's in the car? >> I'm doing good. That's your opinion, but she is not listening to me. >> You're literally sending me to jail. >> He's not doing anything. >> You are. No, I didn't. >> I'm not going to court. Yes, you did. >> No, Judge Garian said I have until March to go to court. >> Give him a call, honey. >> [laughter] >> I don't know what to tell you. >> Then I will call Judge Garian at 5:33 p.m. Guys. >> [music] >> Okay. I hear what you're saying. You told us many times. But what you need to understand is a judge issued a warrant for your arrest. So, we're commanded to take you in. >> that issued the warrant is >> [music] >> Judge Garian. >> well, that may be, but Yeah. >> Okay, Darian, please. Literally, this is not a big deal. You don't have to take me in because that's not your jurisdiction. [music] >> It doesn't matter. Whenever there's a warrant and it's in this county, we have to take you. Doesn't matter. You can Okay, I don't know where you I I can >> I went to law school in Arizona. >> Then I guess you need to familiarize yourself >> don't know where you went to the academy. >> Well, you you need to familiarize yourself with how our warrants work then cuz that's not how it works here. >> All right, well, >> [music] >> I need to figure out I'm going to >> No, you're not right now. >> I'm going outside to >> You are not cuz you are >> I'm stepping outside to smoke. You can join me. >> no, you are under arrest right now, so you're not going to go outside. >> Yeah, well, you can join me. I'm allowed to smoke under arrest. >> Okay, we're not going to play this game, okay? >> Okay, I'm allowed to smoke under arrest. Okay? It's my car, I know. >> Sign my watch and come back in here. >> Oh gee, look I snatched my purse. Are those selling, too? Wow, over chips and milk. I think that milk is spoiling. So ridiculous. Okay, well, I need to have this conversation like without you breathing down my neck. >> Well, you're staying in here. You're not free to leave, so. >> Why can't I have a cigarette? >> Because I said so. Because right now you're in custody. >> Mom. I'm not in custody. >> You are. >> Mom. Um, I was buying milk and at Walmart. And this loser, Arab, was accusing me of stealing. I didn't, Mom. They're telling me I have a warrant. Yeah, the the loser manager here at Walmart thinks I was stealing um Yeah, I I said I was like I have so much money, I could buy the Walmart. I know, I know, I know, Mom, I know. I was like this >> As she was talking to her mother, the officers decided to continue their investigation. But like a typical Karen lawyer, she [music] lacked the decency to tell a simple truth. >> Yeah, the police officer even said I can't go outside to smoke a cigarette because I'm in custody. No. The I know, I was walking out of Walmart like I normally do, and the guy's like, >> [music] >> "Here, you have to stop, and you have to verify everything and I think you stole this and that and desserts and milk. [music] You know, for dog's party. I know. >> Does she have a like Illinois driver's Illinois driver's license? So, what are we doing What are we What are we doing here with this? >> This is a false alarm actually. It's happened on uh customer service. >> Okay. >> she did She She returned something on She put something on a debit card but that's it. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, what does Walmart want to do? >> Okay, we need the receipt for this those things. >> I gave it to you. I gave you like >> I'll show you now that I'll show you now that she didn't give me anything. >> I handed you three receipts. >> I was taking out leaving it possibly so. >> No. Okay, well, you know, I at least we walked out to go smoke. >> No. >> Wait. >> Because I had explained I had explained it to you. >> That's like a need. >> We have two different situations that we're figuring it out here. >> Are you all here? >> Yeah. >> No, they're like >> Two situations that we're figuring out right now. You have a retail theft issue that's happening here. >> theft for milk and >> Please. >> chips >> A retail theft situation that's happening here and then you have your warrant situation. >> warrant I understand but this is not a retail theft. No, Mom, the Gurnee police don't care about that. But Mom, I'm saying they're saying I didn't a retail theft situation for milk and chips and dog items. >> Is it the items in the bag only or [music] is it other stuff? >> No, I already paid for them. Everything is paid for. She paid for all >> All this is paid for. That All of that is not paid for or just the dog toys? >> No, all of this. >> No, no, no. You know, you don't understand. >> This is on my digital receipt. That is on a physical receipt from the customer service. This is on >> Well, what >> Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom. Everything's paid for. It's double paid for. >> All All those receipts you have them. It's all more than more than you paid. >> Yeah. No. No. No. Yeah, the receipt is in my hand. >> Yeah. >> Like >> So, you give me the ticket. >> No. I handed you the receipt. Like I know, Mom. This is ridiculous. I'm just saying So, that is on this receipt. See this? Stuff I didn't get out of. I know, Mom. Isn't that crazy? I was walking out. Like look, this is on this receipt. The Walmart manager. He's like Yeah. Yeah. This is on this >> You know what these abbreviations are? >> Yeah, this is on this receipt. >> Okay. >> I'm saying those I had already picked out. That stuff is on the receipt which I exchanged for the stuff I returned. I already know that. I have bit stuff out of this to taste it. >> I see. Okay, that's all the items in here from >> See, Mom? You hear his accent? Like I literally Like I literally >> All those items >> No, how would you know? >> Delivery 150. Okay, there's a 15 items in this shopping cart. So, this receipt we're done with it. Okay? We still have a better receipt for those items. >> Can you provide a receipt for those items? >> I gave it to him. I handed it to him. I handed to him. I don't know what he did with it. >> How did you pay? >> I don't know what it was. I paid >> So, let's see it. >> Um >> I'm not sure there's one thing. >> Customer service, I returned bags and cans and cans of dog food. >> Okay. What does that have to do with those items? >> With every question came a whole ton of excuses. It was as though she had turned the investigation into her own courtroom drama, positioning herself as counsel and defendant alike and determined at all costs to win her own case. >> And then [snorts] I purchased those. It was like an exchange. >> They were saying that you did not do that at the customer service counter. >> I got to tell you the truth, she wasn't up there. >> I was up there. >> No, no. That other cashier was not up there when I went up there. >> Okay, well, she was the one that did my exchange. >> Can you call over there and see if you can talk to her? Yeah, well, she I think the warrant is there. >> But, you do realize this is a total >> What? >> hilarious misunderstanding. >> Well, the problem is you have a warrant. >> What does that have to do with today, my being here or what? >> What does that have to do with today? >> My shopping, being here. >> It has nothing to do with that, but the reason you're standing here right now is more because of the warrant. >> No, I don't think so. I don't The reason I'm standing here is because you know, he was like, "I want to verify that you paid for everything." You guys only just found out about the warrant because you called it in. >> That's a police work, right? >> No. >> Yeah, running running your name. >> You want me to call it the police work? >> You call it whatever you want. >> I'm on the opposite end. I'm an attorney. >> Okay. >> Okay. Okay, you know what I just found? I found [music] two of the return things. This is the oregano I returned. >> Yeah, I forgot what I was going to forget that. That's really weird. Do you just want at this point, since it's becoming that much of a mess, do you just want to trespass cuz I Either way, I got to take her up to jail anyway. So >> Yeah, he's going to take me to jail next to you. >> Give me this. >> And you don't have to take me to jail. I Judge hearing has given me until March to come. >> Well, well, where's Where's your paperwork that you said you had for that? >> This is what I returned, okay? He took my receipt. >> Where is your paperwork from the judge? >> It's a quash order. I have a quash order at my house. >> Okay. >> I have a quash order at my house. It's in a yellow envelope. It's in a manila envelope. >> Manila? Okay. >> You know what? You >> You got to be able You just purchased these items. You got to be able to provide a receipt. >> I handed it to him. I literally handed it to >> what And then where did it go? >> I don't know where it went. >> I went What Once you handed me She handed me the receipt she returned What is this What is this a >> "This is a return receipt." I don't know the person. Okay. Mom, I brought I brought stuff from the jail. I didn't say Walmart. >> Go ahead. I still >> Yes. >> I know the receipt for purchase of those items. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Right. >> She doesn't She doesn't have >> Yeah. >> Look, I returned all this stuff. >> I believe you. I mean, at the end of the day, I can write an ordinance ticket for retail theft. Like, you go to court, I'm putting you down as a complainant, and you got to be able to provide proof of that then at court. >> She can look for the >> [music] >> can look for the >> That's fine. Bring it to to court then. >> this is so ridiculous. >> Take this. >> I'm like I have a Walmart credit card with like a $20,000 limit. >> Okay. >> What's going on here? >> No, just stop saying that. >> Yeah, I would love to >> I don't see any quash order here. >> Look, you two are a >> Where are we going? >> I'm He's giving the value right now. The end of the day, I mean we're reading a Walmart. I mean I can pretty ridiculous right now. >> I'll be back. Okay. No, we're closed tomorrow, but I got to come back and finish up those plain pallets. >> Well, what is that? You're all playing a game with me. I guess I'm blown at this point. Um All right, you got to arrange for your son? >> At this point, the officers decided that they had seen enough of her games and it was time to put an end to the theatrics and escorted her to jail. But she wasn't one to go down without putting on a good show. >> Clearly. >> What do you want to bring with you as far as you're going? You want your your whole bag? Like everything in there? >> As far as that goes. >> It's just a lot of inventory stuff. If you can throw some of that stuff away, you don't need it. >> What if my mom gets here? She's going to come grab my stuff. >> I'm not waiting for your mom. At this point, once I get the amount of stuff that's being that's being >> owe me that much cuz all that stuff is paid for. >> No, we don't owe you that. >> That That is not paid for according to him. That's the That's the amount. >> lawsuit against you. >> going to tell you right Tell you right now, there's no quash order, okay? >> There is a quash order. >> I looked in the DuPage system, there's no quash order. >> a quash order. >> Turn around, put your hands behind your back. >> Uh >> Right now. >> No, I'm not going to handcuff me behind. Don't force it, officer. >> Don't >> Force it. You're hurting me. >> Stop. You're going to be getting charged with resisting in a minute. >> Hey. >> Um Now you can >> Listen. >> No, no, no, no, that's what we're doing. >> No. >> no. >> Stop. >> No, no. You're hurting me. >> Stop. >> Stop. >> Oh, now you KICKED ME. >> STOP. >> YEAH, YEAH. You You shouldn't have done a lot worse than you. Cuz what have I done? >> You just tried to bite me. >> I didn't do anything. >> Anything. >> Ow, what are you going to do? Break my wrist? >> No, I'm not. >> What are you going to do? Break my wrist? >> We'll be there >> I tried to handcuff me and stop. Ow. >> And you're going to do what we say. >> Stop. >> No. What? Why? What are you going to do? >> for me, sir. >> Okay. Ow. >> Stop moving. >> Um you're hurting me. >> Cuz you keep moving. >> No. >> Now you're kicking me. >> Yeah, I am. >> biting me and kicking me. >> Yeah, I am. Well, you know what? >> Ma'am, now you're under arrest. You're being charged with resisting arrest. >> Oh, I didn't do anything. I'm not resisting arrest. >> Yes, you are. We've been more than patient with you. >> All right. And now you're being charged with Whatever. Whatever. Whatever. Whatever. You know what? Literally, I'm telling you to stop. >> [ __ ] right now. >> Literally, I've been nothing but cooperative. Don't worry. >> My What is my phone in there? You wouldn't even be >> Stop there. Will be long enough. >> No. >> No, I'll do it again. >> You wouldn't even be the least bit >> You tried to bite me. I don't want to hear anything else. >> I don't give a You wouldn't even be the least bit >> In the end, Shamsi was booked into jail on charges of retail theft, possession of displayed merchandise, resisting arrest, and battery on an LEO. While Shamsi got slammed with multiple charges, Paul Correa, a former Cochise County Chief Civil Deputy Attorney in Arizona, kissed his job goodbye after his conduct led to serious criminal allegations. >> You think that I was >> [snorts] >> in the in the store recording his daughter with my phone? That's not true. Are you an attorney or are you a paralegal or >> Yeah, I'm only Chief Civil Deputy Attorney. >> Okay. >> I can pull my door open. He's breaking the law. If I had a firearm, my firearm would be right now. I would shoot the guy. >> On December the 17th, 2025, officers from the Sierra Vista Police Department received a call from a Target employee reporting [music] a vehicle blocking another in the store's parking lot. Upon arrival, they began questioning one of the drivers, later identified as Paul Correa. Unaware that they were stepping into the center of a serious allegation that would soon place a well-known attorney under [music] intense criminal scrutiny. >> All right, how are you [snorts] doing? >> All right, how are you? >> Take your hands out of your pocket. Something around your waist. Can I come around to your car? >> Sure. >> What's your name? >> My name is Paul Correa. >> Okay, have a seat right here. >> All right, I prefer not to sit. >> Okay, Paul. Yeah, lean up against your car. >> Why? >> Because I'm telling you to. >> Okay. >> Or you can do it that way or you can go have a seat in the back of my car. So, I'm trying to I don't know what's going on. So, lean up against your car with your butt with your butt and just try to sit relax for a minute while I figure out what's going on. All right, watch him. Cuz I'm the only guy here. I don't know what the hell is going on. >> Sorry. >> So, what what's the issue today? >> He thinks >> So, both of you are now parties to a separate incident, but you were together earlier. >> Well, he can give you a statement. >> He says he's not self-aware. Okay. >> He's confused. He's angry. >> Um what's he confused or angry or what does he think he saw? >> He thinks that I was uh in the in the store recording his daughter with my iPhone. That's not true. It's absolutely not true. >> Okay. How did this transpire to now in the parking lot? People are blocking each other. >> I was sitting here calling my son to say the pizza place is frozen there. So, what do you want to eat? >> Okay. >> And then all of a sudden he's banging on the door telling me, you know, I don't know what he's just banging on the door real hard. >> Okay. What's he saying? >> I think he was saying everything incomprehensibly. So, it's like uh I think he was telling me to come out of the car. >> What did you argue? >> He didn't really say he was. >> Was there some kind of altercation in the store? >> Yeah, absolutely not. >> Do you have an ID on you? >> Yeah. Here you go. >> Thanks. >> He's still No, I think he was dizzy. >> What's that? >> I think he was dizzy earlier. >> He was dizzy? Is this your car? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What's a good address for you in Bixby? So, you're here shopping? >> Yeah. >> Did you buy anything? >> Yes. >> What did you buy? >> [snorts] >> A bunch of chocolate balls and stuff that's for an office party tomorrow. >> Okay. Where do you work? >> I work at the Tulsa County Attorney's Office. >> Oh, okay. What's a good telephone number for you? Are you an attorney? Are you a paralegal or is this >> Yeah, I'm the Chief Civil Deputy County attorney. >> Okay. >> This guy's got me completely wrong. I understand I'd be upset, too. >> When the officers learned who he was, they chose to tread carefully, aware that the allegation carried significant weight given his position. Yet, as they were still weighing their approach, Correa suddenly blurted out words that caught them [music] completely off guard. >> There's no altercation, there's no contact between you guys in the store. >> Um but at what point did he tell you or did you hear an allegation that he thought you were filming his daughter? >> He came banging on my window. >> Just now? >> I I've been sitting here for a minute, like uh trying to figure out what to do for dinner [snorts] >> Okay. >> with my kids. >> Um he says I'm in your in my car and like I don't know where he gets that. >> Okay. >> Like >> All right. Um >> [snorts] >> as far as you know, um did did you see him in the store with his daughter >> I don't know who he is. The first time The first time you hear of anything is right here at the car he's banging on your window. >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. I think I'm going to tell my partner Officer Thompson first. Let me go talk to him and get his side of the story. Obviously, [snorts] until we're done here, you're not free to go. >> Right. So, I'm trying to >> There's no physical altercation between you and him or anything in the parking lot here. It's just he's banging >> Well, I I tried to close my door. He He prevented me from closing my door, told me I was breaking the law. >> Okay. Well, I'll go talk to him. >> pulled my door open. He's breaking the law. If I had a firearm and my firearm was here right now, I would shoot the guy. >> After speaking with the attorney, the officers turned to the victim's father. He explained that he had rushed to the store after receiving a distressing call from his daughter. He reported that a man was filming her. Upon arriving at the parking lot, he said he witnessed Correa engaged in conduct so inappropriate that it left little room for doubt as he remained fixated on a video playing on his phone. At this point, Correa was still insistent on his innocence, so they decided to take a look at the store's surveillance cameras that captured Korea [music] intentionally walking past and recording two young girls during his 40-minute trip to Target. With sufficient evidence in hand, the former deputy attorney was arrested and charged with harassment by surveillance, public [music] indecency, and tampering with physical evidence. He was remanded to the Graham County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond and was subsequently dismissed from his position. Unlike other Karen lawyers who tried to legally maneuver their way out of the wrong side of the law, this immigration lawyer thought she had an honest excuse to shoplift from a grocery store. >> One from July 29th, and then the other one >> are the only two we're addressing today. >> Right. You literally just walked out the door with a thousand dollars of merchandise. >> I'm going through something. >> I'm just going through something. I did not mean to shoplift. >> On August the 10th, 2022, Florida officers received a call from a local Target store reporting a shoplifting incident in progress. They rushed to the scene, arriving just in time to intercept the suspect as she was on the verge of slipping away. After stopping her and securing her at the back of their vehicle, they turned to the loss prevention officers, only to find themselves on the edge of a revelation that would send a chill through the entire situation. >> One from July 29th, and then the other one >> are the only two we're addressing today. >> Right. >> Okay. >> Um if you want to just proceed with this one right now, the one from today, we can. If you want to wait for the statement from this one >> Uh it doesn't matter >> which I previously done. >> If you have that together, I'll I'll take them both. >> I just have the intake >> You witnessed everything? Saw it? Saw her? >> This. >> Okay. Okay. So, yeah, if you want Right. >> The other one, I have clear as day footage of her not even touching a checklane. She didn't pay for anything in that. >> Well, you know, if you like to, if you want to come out with me, we'll talk to her. Or if if you like to speak to her at any time, you're more than welcome to. She's requesting that. We'll do the trespassing and everything. If you want to ask her about the other day or or she'll ask you. she'll say something to you. All right. >> Hey, how's it going? >> You stay in there. >> Can I please talk to you? >> Yeah, yeah, I'm here to talk. So, just before we even start, in order for me to even be able to call the police or do anything like this, make any type of detainment, I have to have a full investigation of information that has no wiggle room, okay? So, um when you were here on the 29th, I also know you were here yesterday and you did absolutely nothing. I watched you the whole time that you were here. >> I was not. >> You were here. I have your plate. I have pictures of your plates. I have movements the entire time you're in the store, but on the 29th when you were here of July, um and you made these selections of the LOL supply of the LOL dolls and things along those lines, um so the the footage that I have is of your doppelganger. It's not of you. >> No, I didn't say that. >> Okay. >> I'm definitely I can't recall being here yesterday. >> That's fine. >> That was the photo I showed you also. You identified as being yourself, too. >> Definitely me. >> Okay. >> I'm more than willing to pay everything that you have and I'm just not in the right state of mind. I've gone through a procedure and I'm on some medication. You can check my >> Yeah, I'm I'm really sorry. Um on so, in regards to the making of the payments, I'm not trying to be mean about this, right? Unfortunately, at this point it has to go through court proceedings, right? Um however, if you're not feeling well and things along those lines, please let them know because there are resources that are available for you and things like that, right? Um just be honest about everything because that's what's going to indicate what's going to happen moving forward. So, saying that maybe you weren't here that you didn't do these things, it's I have I have I have footage of them. >> I know how it sounds and I have not denied that I have been here, but like when you said I was here yesterday, I can't even recall being here. >> Not yesterday, though. >> I'm perfectly honest with you. >> The 29th. She she was here yesterday. She She just didn't do anything. I was just using that in this. You parked in almost in You parked right over there. You walked in the store, looked at kids shoes, walked around the store for a literal minute and a half and then exited the store again. >> With the weight of evidence closing in on her from all sides, she knew that there was no way left to hide. Sorry, she began searching for a way to slip through the cracks and wriggle free of the situation. >> And that's that's perfectly fine. If you don't remember that, then I would suggest that you let somebody know that. >> I really really would appreciate if I can go ahead and pay for all the losses that you guys have had because of my situation and if we don't take it to the jail, I have four children and I'm I'm really sorry that I've caused this. >> Yeah. >> But I'm more than happy to just pay the loss and whatever fine I have to pay and not having to deal with jail or anything because my situation like because of my situation's probably going to get even worse. And if there is a way to settle this, I would really really appreciate it. >> Unfortunately, that the best way that this is going to get paid is through restitution at this point. There will be an opportunity for you to pay it back and maybe some type of closure on the case through that, but um prior incidents and you literally just walked out the door with a thousand dollars of merchandise today. All right. >> So, before we talk, I just need to read you your rights, okay? So, you understand what's going on today. We got the call. >> Yeah. I'm just going through something. I did not mean to shoplift. I totally realize that I didn't bring my purse. I was coming in here and I was going to go back and have someone come in and help me out and pay for everything and I'm I'm more than happy to pay for it. >> How many items did you bring with you? >> I don't even know. I'm not in the right state of my mind. I'm >> Okay. >> just recently lost >> So, obviously there's several large I mean, what what did you grab that you remember from the store? >> I remember I brought a large box and >> another large box. >> Okay, two large boxes? Okay. >> I recently lost my aunt from COVID and >> I'm sorry to hear >> I just realized that I just came in and uh I didn't pay for it all together. I I just realized that I need to have someone come and help me and I was just on the phone and have someone come and pay. >> Help you pay for everything you just took out of the store and loaded up? Okay. >> Would you please let me go and pay? >> Okay, obviously some of those items on the back seat belong to Target. I have a Target employee here. All right, if you're all right, I'm going to have them retrieve their items in the back. Is it the back seat? Are you okay with me retrieving Target's items? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> All right. Yep, hold on one second, we're going to get you. For a fleeting moment, the officers were almost convinced she was telling the truth and that [music] she genuinely needed help. But as they turned to sift through the stolen items, it became clear [music] that she had been playing them. >> She said she's just gone through a hard time and she totally forgot to pay. >> Yeah, yeah. >> Obviously, how how much of this is >> This is all us. >> She's already given me permission to go in there and and retrieve anything that belongs to Target anyway, so Yep. Uh so, we'll verify what's yours and before you put anything [music] up, I'll need to get photographs and and all that as well. Okay. So, I'm assuming if you want to tell me yay or nay, I'm assuming yes. >> Absolutely, this is not mine, that's her personal belongings. >> right now. >> of our brand. >> that up on the front for right now. >> This is also ours. This is also ours. >> So, everything in here is yours? >> Yes, this is all us. >> Okay. >> Very consistent with the stuff that she's previously stolen as well. That's all us. That's all our brand. I don't even sell it anywhere else. >> She's She's an entire car full. >> Yes. Yes. Purse in hand. Yes. >> If you're good on this, I can inventory and you can go do your thing if >> Thank you. >> I'm assuming Yeah, we need a couple of them. They will not take her medications. Leave that here. See if she wants to bring her purse. We'll have to get a contact for somebody. Who said? That's a lot of stuff, not just a couple boxes. >> I know. >> That's like a couple shopping carts full. >> I know. >> How many trips [music] did you make today? >> Just one trip. >> That's all that's in there? That's a full cart. Okay. Well, the Here's the deal. The store wants to prosecute, okay? So, they wish to prosecute, so you are under arrest for retail theft, okay? Your purse is in there. They can't take medications into the jail or anything like that. Do you want your purse with you? >> Yes. >> You have your ID in your purse? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. So, I'm going to bring the purse back and then I'll get the ID out. I have to make sure there's no weapons or anything inside. Hm? >> My children are in the car. >> Are they? Um father, anybody we can call about the car? Oh, well, okay. We'll get that information in just a moment. >> She was later charged with grand theft and placed on 3 months probation. Those Florida officers did a solid job bringing that immigration lawyer down [music] to size, but they were nothing compared to the zero tolerance Tulsa officers who reminded Oklahoma politician Senator Regina Goodwin that the law respects no title after she was found in violation of a traffic regulation. >> I need your driver's license. >> I did not run it. >> I need your driver's license. >> I pulled away somewhere and and and you talked right wrong. Give me a ticket and all that. >> I need your driver's license, ma'am. >> You are not going to arrest me when I did not I stopped the stop sign and you have the audacity you want to arrest me. >> I'm attorney Mike. >> Yeah, you might want to start talking. >> What if I just paid the ticket? >> You'll have to do that through the courts. >> Okay, explain that to me. >> On January the 11th, 2025, Tulsa County Deputy Freddy Alanis initiated a traffic stop after a vehicle ran two stop signs near East Archer Street. [music] But as he approached it dawned upon him that the driver was none other than Senator Regina Goodwin, a lady who believed following the law was optional. >> Cuz you ran two stop signs and you're going to get a citation today. >> I did not stop at two stop signs. >> I I was behind you, ma'am. You didn't You didn't even come to a complete stop. >> I did not stop at two stop signs, sir. >> This stop sign right here? You >> I did not I did not >> I need your driver's license. >> I did not run it. >> I need your driver's >> I pulled away somewhere and and and you talked right wrong. You want to give me a ticket and all that. >> I need your driver's license, ma'am. >> I come down this place. I did not run two >> Ma'am, I need your driver's license. Yes, you did. >> And why you doing all this? Like you >> I need your driver's license. >> Mr. Alanis >> I'm fixing my vest. I need your driver's license, ma'am. >> What's your name? >> Alanis. >> And who do you work with? >> Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. >> Tulsa County Sheriff's >> Yep, ma'am, and I'm stopping you cuz you ran two stop signs. >> even I did not run two stop >> This is This is the Tulsa County. >> I I know, but I did not run two stop signs. >> Okay, I need your driver's license. >> But what How do we solve this if I know I did not run two stop signs? >> Well, we can solve it in court. I need your driver's license. >> No, but you're not telling the truth. I did not run two stop signs. >> the truth. Yes, you did run two stop signs. You didn't come to a complete stop at this stop sign here and you didn't come to a complete stop on the other stop sign. No, you did not come to a stop. >> You said I did not come to a complete stop. >> You slowed down. You did not come to a stop. >> Huh? >> You slowed down. You did not even come to a stop. >> the stop sign. >> You slowed down. >> Uh-huh. >> State statute is you must come to a complete full stop. >> Okay. Okay, and I did stop at those stops. >> No, you didn't, ma'am. I need your driver's license. >> I did. >> Ma'am, I either >> tell me this. Tell me >> Ma'am, I'm not going to ask you again. Can I get your driver's license or can I take you to jail on running a stop sign? I'm not going to ask you again. It's not for debate. >> Are you saying you're going to take me to jail for running a stop sign that I did not run? >> You ran I need your driver's license. >> No, no, Mr. Officer, I did not >> your driver's license. I'm not going to ask again. I then I need to get your driver's license. >> going to arrest me when I did not I stopped the stop sign and you have the audacity you're going to arrest me. >> If you don't give me your driver's license if you don't give me your driver's license >> From the moment Senator Regina Goodwin stepped out, she made it clear she wasn't about to take responsibility. [music] But despite her attitude, the deputy remained polite, calmly requesting her ID while hoping that she was going to be reasonable enough to comply. >> I need your driver's license. >> Do what you got to do. >> Okay, turn around. >> You're saying you're going to arrest me? >> Yep, turn around. >> Okay. Okay, you're going to arrest me and I did not run a stop sign. >> Relax for me. Relax. Relax. Relax your hands. Yeah, relax them. Relax. >> relaxed, sir. >> No, you're not relaxed. >> I am relaxed. I'm doing nothing here. I am relaxed. >> You ran two stop signs. >> not run and you're you're YOU'RE BENDING MY THUMB A LITTLE BIT. >> Stop moving. Stop moving. Don't turn towards me, ma'am. Don't turn towards me. >> Okay, first of all, I didn't run the stop sign. >> Ma'am, stop moving towards me. >> Okay. You know what? You are you really are putting too much pressure on my thumb, you know. And I'm asking your name. I'm asking your >> Yeah, Purdy Elenis with the Tustin County Sheriff's Office. Reason why I pulled you over is because you ran two stop signs. >> And and why would you say that you're going to arrest me? >> Because you're refusing to give me your driver's license. >> No, sir. I'm I'm just telling you I'm asking you the process. >> Yeah, I asked you about uh I don't know, maybe over eight times to give me your driver's license. >> to you I didn't run the stop sign. If I if I'm refusing to if if If saying to you that I didn't run the two stop signs, >> Uh-huh. >> that's what I said to you. >> I know. >> Okay. >> And I asked for your driver's license several times. >> to turn my car off. >> No, ma'am. We're going to go right this way. >> Can you Can you turn my car off? >> Yeah, he could Well, I can turn it off in a second. We're going to go right this way. We're going to go right this way, ma'am. >> Can you turn my car off, please? >> I will turn it off. Yep, we're going to go right this way. Nope, I'll take care of it. If you'll step right back to the sidewalk for me, please, I appreciate it. >> No, I'm attorney Mike Manning. >> That's fine, sir. Can you Can you stand over there for me? >> Uh I'm standing over here. I'm not obstructing anything. >> All right, thank you. We're going to go right this way. >> You don't think this is really going too far? >> Ma'am, we're going to go right this way. >> Okay. >> Did you not give me your driver's license? >> No, no, you Oh, I was asking you the process. I was asking how is this going to work out? And you said, "If you don't stop, I'm going to arrest you." I said, "Why would you" Yes, you did. Yes, you That's why I asked, "Why would you arrest me?" >> I said, "If you don't give me your driver's license." >> was not it. It was not It was no. I said I said I said, "Why would you arrest me?" is what I said. >> Because you're refusing to give me your driver's license. >> no, no. I >> Have a seat. Have >> That is not what happened. >> That's exactly what happened. Have a >> That is not. Because let me say this, when I said to you, >> That's exactly what happened. No, no, no, no, no. >> That is exactly what happened. That's what you asked me, and I said, >> No, no. What I asked you was, "Why?" >> Give me your driver's license. >> would you arrest me for this?" is what I said. And then I'm disputing that I didn't stop at the stop sign, but I said, "Why would you arrest me for that?" is what I said. >> Cuz you're refusing to give me your driver's license. >> No, that is not true. >> Okay, have a seat. >> That is not true at all. We had a conversation, and you just >> all of a sudden said, "I'll arrest you." And I said, "That" I thought you were really I thought you were really I escalated something." No. Sir, that is not >> Okay, have a >> Why would that would even be an option for you? >> Have a seat. >> Why would that even be a >> Cuz you're refusing to give me your driver's license. >> There was no refusal of me to give you my driver's license. >> I asked you over five times to give me your driver's license. >> but I was saying to you, >> And you kept debating your driver's license. I'm not debating your >> at all debating my driver's license, sir. That is not correct. Because I was saying to you that you're telling me that I'm not stopping at the stop signs and I'm not doing this and then you said I'll arrest you and then you escalated to I'll arrest you. >> Why would you not give me your driver's license? >> I was having a conversation with you. I was asking your name. I asked you how do you pronounce your name? I asked you who are you and what are you >> going to ask you again. Have a seat. >> Okay, tell me let me Would you tell me this? What happens after you put me in this car? I'm asking you what happens after you put me in the car. >> I'm going to drive you over to the jail right over there. I'm going to book you in for failing to stop at a stop sign times two. Have a seat for me right here. >> That that really makes sense to you. >> Have a seat right here. >> That you wouldn't write a ticket if you thought you were right. >> listening to my instruction and my commands >> you are you are going way overboard talking about taking me down, booking me >> Have a seat right here. >> Because you're saying that I slowed down at the stop sign. I didn't come to >> No, I'm saying that you failed. >> No, you said you said >> See, you just keep you just keep making things up. No, ma'am. Have a seat. Come on. Ma'am, have a seat. You just keep saying these different things in different words. >> Let me get my leg up. >> Okay. Yep. You keep You keep You keep Yes, you are. You keep saying that that I'm saying things that I did not say. >> Well, that's >> Okay. >> The cuffs went on and Goodwin's attitude worsened. She complained to nonstop still refusing to comply. Just when the deputy [music] thought things couldn't get any more frustrating, another VIP arrived. >> Is she here to pick you up? >> Uh we were getting ready to meet. >> Okay. Yeah. Yes. Yes, you sure can. I'm going to shut her door so another car doesn't hit it. Baker four, Baker 11. >> I realize you have a job to do, officer, I'm attorney Mike >> Yeah, Yeah, might want to start to move. >> That's my I showed you my driver's license. I realize Senator Goodwin can be a little bit strong-headed at times. But don't you think that we can >> Let's let's let's pull off the road right here. I don't want I don't want us to be on Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can I can absolutely do that, but >> She'll she'll give you her driver's license. >> Okay, I don't need I don't need to ask her 10 times for her driver's license. You know what I mean? >> the law. >> And I I don't have an issue right issue no hesitation to let her go, but I'm the one that's in in command of the traffic stop, not her. Uh she blatantly ran two stop signs, and I was just going to give her a verbal warning and tell her not to do that, but she her demeanor, the way that she was I can't have that. I'm the one in control of the traffic stop, not her. >> I understand. >> I don't If I If >> And I'm not I'm not saying >> allow other people to do that when I do a traffic stop, I'm not going to allow her, either. Does that make sense? >> I understand. >> Uh I know that people get a little >> Yeah. >> little wound up when they get pulled over by the police. They don't like it. Um And it And I try not to escalate the things that way they don't need to go. >> Okay. >> So, yeah, let let me let me get it figured out with her, okay? Uh Michael Manning, yeah. I'm going to let her cool down just a little bit, see if she can relax a little bit, okay? Who is she? >> Regina Goodwin, Senator Goodwin. >> Senator Goodwin? >> Yeah, she represents this district. >> Okay. Okay. So, okay. So, I will Yes, I'll pull her out. I'll pull her out. >> if she's on They're in session or anything like that. I I don't know. I don't keep up with that. Okay. And if she uh often times she gets called for some things. I I don't know. I'm sure you you observed what you observed, but if if I could just have a quick >> Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Come on. >> The man claiming to be an attorney tried using his influence to sway the deputy, and even though the attempt fell flat because the deputy refused to be intimidated, Goodwin still would not give in. >> Senator You got your your >> ID and or your driver's license and birth cert? >> Yeah. Yeah, can we just give the ID? Give the driver's license. Take a deep breath. And everything and then let's let's go from there.
