65 in a 45. And the roads are wet. >> Yeah, what's your threshold for Is there a criminal speeding site here? >> So, yes, there is. It's got to be 50 over. Um yeah. So, there's a mandatory court appearance if it's 30 over. >> Okay. >> Um it's not criminal, but it's a mandatory. But, we have a super speeder law now that if you do 50 50 over the speed limit, it's a misdemeanor arrestable offense. You can get your car impounded. Um or if you're doing 100 mph or faster. >> Okay. I like that, too. We should stop right here. They love to stop wherever in Florida. >> How are you doing? Good afternoon. It's Officer Wilson, Sunrise Police Department. Uh reason for the stop is you're speeding. You're doing 65 mph just prior to the light there, okay? What's that? >> Give me a stop. You say I work in You see my my blog? See sir? >> What are you trying to show me, sir? >> Look, this is the in my blogging family. >> I see it's written in Spanish, so I don't understand that. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Look. I work in in >> Okay. >> This is my blog. I need >> Okay, but you can't speed and it's raining. Do you have your license, registration, insurance I can take a look real quick? Are you normally late to work? >> Yeah. >> Oh, well, we can't be late and you can't be speeding because you're late. There's two cars on either side of you and you did 65 right between them and then cut over. You can't speed. You're [snorts] doing too fast. The roads are wet. It's raining. You can't do that, okay? Now, we've all been late to work. >> Yeah. >> I've been late to work. I'm sure everybody who watches has been late to work once or twice. But, he he seems like he's on like final warning for being late. So, it sounds like it's a it's a uh repetitive problem for him being late. And that's why he's so like in a rush to get to work. >> So, just poor time management. >> Very poor time management. >> Well, the good thing is now he's going to have a good excuse to show his boss cuz he'll have a ticket. So, it's like a whole mess. >> This is going to print back there. >> Oh, you got a printer in the back? >> Well, it usually sits where you're sitting, but >> Oh, right on. Very cool. That was fun. Love it. I just got a Ford. Teamwork. Three people in a Mustang is >> Get that done. >> We're working in a collaborative effort here. >> Love it. >> All right. >> Go ahead and break the news to this gentleman. >> He needs it. >> Yeah. Hey, you're just getting a citation for the speed, okay? So, you're doing 65 in a 45. You have 30 days to take care of this. Inside this mailer, how it says, "How do I take care of my citation?" You have some options. You can pay for it, go to driving school, take it to court. Whatever you want to do is up to you. You have to slow down. You're doing 65 in the rain, okay? You're good to go. Do you have any questions for me? >> No, I'm fine. >> Okay, you're good to go. Just slow down. Put your seat belt on. >> All right, everyone. So, I'm up in Sunrise with Sunrise Police Department. I got Detective Weir with me. Uh actually, while I'm with him, um he's not with me. I'm in his car, uh which is an awesome car. So, occasionally I jump in a Mustang. This is his full-time awesome Mustang. And um yeah, so we're we're riding around with slaying some tickets today. Weather's kind of nasty, so we figured we'd have a talk. Um So, we're we're about right about the same age. How long have you been with the with the PD? >> Uh I am on my 25th year here. Okay. So, I've been started here when I was in my early 20s. >> Right on. >> Been here since, obviously. >> We have almost the exact same amount of time on, um late into my I'll hit 25 in June. >> I'll stay in this unit till the day I I'm actually out of here. If I have my choice, uh I will definitely hopefully retire from this spot in this car. Cuz I'm pretty sure this car is not going to go anywhere until I do, hopefully. >> Right on. >> So, >> I like it. >> Reason for the stop is your speed, okay? >> Huh? >> The reason for the stop is your speed. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> You hit you hit 70 before you hit the brakes. >> I hit 70. >> What's that? >> I hit 70. >> Yes, sir, in the right lane. >> I'm trying to find the updated one. >> All right, well, it's not that one. That one's 2024. Well, you got your registration, your license is good. We're just waiting on the insurance. Right there. Perfect. Okay. Give me 1 second. Get you out of here. Seems like every time we stop somebody, there's somebody either has all their stuff ready to go >> or nothing. >> Or they have to like download the app, upload the newest version of the app, log in, get the code texted. >> I'm an old man. >> Okay. >> I print my uh you know, I print my insurance card out. I stick it in my glove box. I do it every 6 months. >> I have registrations and insurances for every single car. So, I make sure every 6 months when I get the insurance card, I get the new insurance card, and every year when I get the registration, and I put it in the glove box like this one, and I take the old one out. That's the other thing we get a lot of. >> I see >> I see collections. Hey, here's Here's my insurance card from 2019. I'm like, "That's That's great." Like, that and a dollar fifty will get you a hot dog at Costco. I don't know what you're expecting here. >> He's doing 70 miles an hour. He's getting cited for it. >> Yeah. It's a 45 here. >> Um wow, I like this. >> You just want to sit here all the time and just hold my ticket printer? >> Dude, the hell hold your ticket printer? Bull >> You confirm your visual estimation of speed. >> I'm sure somebody here is going to say, "Why does this ticket printer just laying around?" Well, usually it's sitting where Frank's sitting, but today we have a guest, so before that light you hit 70. So, that's what you're being cited for. You have some options here. You have 30 days to comply with it. You can pay for it, go to driving school, take it to court. Whatever you decide is up to you, but I just ultimately want you to slow down, especially with the weather, okay? Do you have any questions for me? All right, man. You can go. Drive safe. Yep. You're good to go. >> So, I know when I was driving full-time when I was in the Charger, I was driving an RT. Um there's all sorts of you know, you get hate messages online of like, "Why do car cops need cars like that? And why do Why do cops need to drive that fast?" And a lot of it is simply physics for me, and I would explain it like, "Look, man. I'm chasing cars that are stock cars that are fast, and I need to be fast, I need to blend in. >> But if they see a police car, they usually behave, right? >> Yeah. Yeah, we we get to observe behavior of when they don't see the cop. >> Correct. And that's just that we blend in with with regular cars and regular vehicles, and people act the fool, and it's and it's Let's say it's easier for us. Um it's just more common. Like we see it all the time, whereas if you're in a marked unit, the odd the odds of you seeing somebody behave in these manners um are not likely. Um so we catch a lot of people by surprise. Um my car is marked. It does say Sunrise Police on the side. >> marked, right? >> It is ghost marked, yeah. So it does say it. So if you look at it, it'll say it. You just have to look for it. Now, this is always a good guessing game. Where do they stop? >> Should be right there. Like should be right there parallel to the rightmost curb. Why? >> Usually they'll stop here, and they'll leave me hanging out. Oh. >> That's a little better. That's a little better. >> We'll take this even though it's not preferred. >> Okay. >> Take it. Reason for the stop is your speed, okay? You're going too fast on this road. Do you know how fast you were going? >> I was passing >> I'm sorry? >> Yeah, that car was passing >> You No, that other car was already at the light. There was nobody passing you. You were you were by yourself in the left lane. There was a car behind you in the right lane, and then I was behind you. Yeah, so I had you on radar at 57. >> The passenger was like, "Oh, there was a car passing." >> There was no car passing. Absolutely not. >> By yourself. You had a car behind you, and I was behind you. But >> Yeah, no, that's that is not accurate. So I hate when people pull to the left. Like there's a perfectly fine place right over there parallel to the rightmost curb with a huge grass area they could pull in, and they could put you totally off the road over there. And it's required that they pull to the right there. Is it Is it the same thing here? >> So here the the I've given advice before and as far as legalities like I think the driver's handbook says you pull over to the right. Um but as far as it being a ticketable offense, um I haven't seen it. This is the best printer holder I've ever had. So, I'm citing you for the speed. Um you have some options here, okay? You can either pay for it, go to driving school, take it to court. Whatever you want to do is up to you. You just got to comply within 30 days, okay? Do you have any questions for me? >> No question. >> No questions? You're good to go. Just drive safe, okay? Sure, one question. >> You want to be zoning now? >> I'm sorry? >> Your name. >> Yes, it's on the bottom of the citation right there. It's Detective Weir, right there. Okay? What's the badge number? 3601. Okay? Any other questions before I leave? >> That would be all. >> You're good to go. Just drive safe. >> You are not a motor like I'm not a motor. You are just a >> No wings. >> Just no wings? I same thing. I own my only wings are SWAT wings. What is that in the middle of the road? Is that your broom? >> Yeah, it's the I have an ex that wrote that actually. >> Um we got to start all over. >> [laughter] >> I told you to just box that whole thing. Take two. >> Okay. >> So, you are not a motor like I'm not a motor, right? We're just We're both in aggressive driver units. Is there any Is there a little beef, little animosity, little brotherly love that happens between you and the the motormen? >> Yeah, yeah, there's um well, not all the motormen. >> Yeah. >> Most motormen are pretty passive. There's a few that uh there's banter. >> Banter is probably the right way to go. >> Yeah, banter. >> And they're like, "Look man, you're you're scared to ride a motorcycle." And I'm like, "You are absolutely correct." >> 100%. >> Like, "Look man, I'm I've been [clears throat] I I've run point into a lot of houses on the SWAT team and I'm totally okay with that. I would do it right now with my guys. Stack up and go. I do not want to ride a motorcycle. I just don't want to do it. Everyone that rides a motor says, 'Hey, it's not a matter of if, it's just a matter of when.' And I don't want that when to happen because I've gotten this far in my career. So, I'm just not riding a motor. I don't care what anyone says. >> Yeah, I'm of the same um principle. Love them, respect them. If that's what they want to do. Um but I I I don't do well on two wheels. Um I can hardly do well on two feet. >> Plus they're like air conditioning. >> Yeah, and cup holders. >> Cup holders. >> Um radio. The sing-along radio. >> Yes. >> Um >> My radio's been off the whole time, but yeah, usually I will be singing to myself. It's a little bit awkward when you pull up to a light and you're singing and you're on a motorcycle. Everyone's looking at you. When I got the windows up and the air conditioning on, I can sing all day long. People don't care. >> Yep. >> They can't hear me. Unless it's a really good song. >> Well, then I'm going to put the windows down. >> Oh, okay. I just scream louder. >> Oh, yeah. Put the windows down. >> Fair enough. >> You can stop here. Stop here. >> What's the rush? >> Uh honestly, I wasn't looking down at the dash and I'm going to be with my girlfriend right now. >> You're going to meet your girlfriend? >> Yeah, she's >> Well, we want you to get there alive, all right? You're doing 64 in a 45 and the roads are wet, so that's a little bit of a problem for me, okay? >> Uh I'm sorry about that. >> All right. Ticket, please. >> Sir. Sir, thank you. Appreciate that. >> It was raining, man. The last That's my biggest problem is that it's raining and you had no clue you were going that fast. So, >> I'm I'm sorry. I'm just going to She's going through a lot right now. I'm going to call her and tell her that >> She would be going through a lot more if you get an accident doing almost 20 miles an hour in the rain. So, I understand what you're telling me, but it's it's it's like a non-negotiable type thing. You're doing almost 20 over. Now, you're getting cited for the speed, okay? >> We both work for agencies that started a crazy YouTube channel about traffic enforcement. And >> [laughter] >> and it's it's something that I think in the history of policing has never been sexy. You know, it's always dope, money, and guns, and SWAT, and aviation, and canine, and you know, like crazy homicide investigations, but no one's ever like, traffic is sexy. Like, traffic's fun. Like, these guys are cool. >> We got stopped by somebody while we were running radar in the middle of the median saying, "Hey, man, I love you. Love you guys. I love what you do. I love watching your show." Um and it's not always just about for the the fame and the glory of being on YouTube. It it is there is a a reason behind this and and it was started out to be to bring awareness and the word gets out that you don't speed in Sunrise. I personally noticed that speeding has gone down. We still get them and I'm sure people watching this are probably like, "Dude, your last episode you got some guy doing 90." And it's like, yeah, they're out there, but far less. >> Reason for the stop is your speed, okay? You're 65 mph. >> Well, you were doing 65 pretty steady when you passed me, but you were the only car on the road. >> It's his birthday today. He came down for 4 days from Canada to spend time with his friends and they're on their way to go to a restaurant. >> Happy [clears throat] birthday to him. >> All right, first slow down, okay? >> I'm sorry officer. >> All right. All right, thank you guys. Take care. >> I was born and raised here. It's uh it's a kind of like a a known for me. I know everything about the city. Um I guess it's because I grew up around here. This department has always been good to me. Um anytime I've really really showed interest in something, I've always been given the opportunity to do it. Um there are places to go and there's units to be in here. Um we have, you know, canine, we have uh detective bureau, we have school resource. We have full uh not a full-time SWAT team, but we do have a SWAT team. Um we have uh crime suppression, traffic, canine, everything. >> Yeah. So, we have everything that a a sheriff's office would have, just not at the magnitude, right? Cuz we're a smaller agency. We're only 180 something uh sworn here. But, the um working here has been good for me personally. >> Got you. Uh we don't stop before right's on red. Is there any reason why you're going so fast? >> Uh no, I was just going to >> You were what? >> I was just I was just going to pick up my wife. >> You're going to pick up your wife? Is everything all right? >> Yeah. >> Well, yeah, definitely we're rushing. >> Yeah, sorry about >> 67, so So, you left your house in a rush, but you you had your phone, but not your wallet? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah, we got to make sure we carry that with us because your ID's in it. >> Yeah. >> And [snorts] by state law, you have to have it. Is everything okay with your license? >> Yeah. >> No problems, no suspensions, no unpaid tickets, nothing like that? Okay, and you live at the >> I actually got a ticket recently. >> Uh-oh. >> Like a week ago. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. Well, a week ago is going to matter cuz it you still have time to take care of it if it was a week ago. All right, was that for speeding as well? >> Yeah. >> All right. Yeah, it's See in the pattern here? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, slow down, man. >> Sorry about that. >> All right. Yeah, so the speed limit there is 45, okay? And you're doing 22 over, which is a little fast, and the roads are wet, okay? >> Yeah. >> Also, when you made the right-hand turn on the Sunrise Boulevard here, um that was a red light. So, the guy in front of you stopped and went right, and you just kept rolling right behind him. So, you you ran a red light. It's a couple of problems we have here. I know you're in a rush, but we still got to obey some traffic laws, okay? All right, give me one minute to get you out of here. Hang tight. >> I do that all the time. Like, [music] you have your you have your driver's license? No. You have a picture on your phone? Yeah. >> Gosh. You ready? >> Yep. >> Here you go, sir. >> [laughter] >> I'm going to write it. Got it. >> Yeah, we're good. >> I'm helping. >> I am writing you for the speed, okay? That's my biggest problem right now cuz it's too fast. Okay, and it's raining. Um what Sorry, it's not raining anymore, but the roads are wet, okay? >> Yeah. >> I'll cut you a break on the license. You have to have your license on you. That picture is not going to cut it, okay? Some guys out here will write you a ticket. Usually, I would. Tonight, I'm not. The other thing, the stop the red light. You have to come to a complete stop. Once you come to a complete stop, then you can proceed, okay? I'll give you a warning on that one as well. So, just the speed, which is the initial reason why I stopped you, okay? >> All right. >> You have some options. You can pay for it, driving school, ticket to court, whatever you decide is up to you. You got to do it in 30 days. >> Sounds good. >> Do you have any questions for me? All right, you are good to go. Drive safe. Get Get to your wife safely. I'll just put your seat belt on before you leave, okay? I wanted to show you this car during the day cuz it's awesome, but it rained just about all day today and it finally settled down when the sun set. So, now we got to do it in the dark. Yeah, I think the uh the rain definitely slowed some people down today, but uh we went out there and we got a few good stops, but the rain definitely was not uh favoring us today. Yeah, it didn't It didn't help, but we did get to ride around in this car. This is one of the absolute best light packages that I've uh that I've seen. I mean, I look at police cars kind of for a living like we both do. This is one of the best light packages that I've seen. If every agency did a non-marked car like this, then you'd be doing it right. So, dude, thank you so much. Thanks for taking me around. Thank you. Thanks for having me. >> Dude thank you. Thank you for everything, man. It was a blast today. >> you for riding with me. >> Yeah. Yeah, thank you for letting me ride with you. And thank you for having me. >> car and my >> And your car and your city. Here we go. So, guys, this is Sunrise PD.
