So, $1,500. How much he he could cut you? >> I don't know his name. >> Why would I be a fake license to >> Are you Are you saying I bring in a fake license? >> Okay. What's your full social security number? Everybody knows their social security number. >> I sometimes don't remember my full social cuz that's up [music] next. >> Okay. >> Scammers believe that every victim is just another easy win, another voice to manipulate, and another lie to sell. But what happens when they run out of luck and realize that they've been caught nigh deep in the act? >> How many? >> Four. >> Four. >> Four. >> Why am I being arrested? >> For fraud, basically. >> For fraud. >> Yeah. >> Is that too tight? Want an extra cuff? >> Here are several times when scammers realize that they've been caught in the act. Starting with this scammer who thought she could outsmart the system by trying to cash a check of $1,500 at three different banks. >> I'm not trying to go to jail. Just turned 18. I don't even have a record. >> Right. >> I don't want to be in this situation. If I knew old boy name, >> I would have told you about it. >> This check, right? How many how many other checks he gave? >> Two. On May the 22nd, 2024, officers were dispatched to a bank after receiving reports of a fraud in motion. As soon as the officers arrived, they made their way to the suspect. And for a woman who had nearly executed a scam perfectly, her lies crumbled under the slightest of pressure. >> Hello. >> So, this is Deputy Groover. >> Mhm. >> Just want to talk a little bit about you. I've got you training cash on checks for $1,500. Got a couple different branches. One was here this morning. So, I have that one right now. And we did do it for you cuz you're an existing client of ours quite a while. You've never had any issues. But then I also ended going to multiple other branches cashing the same checks from the same person for $1,500. He just kind of looked a little more suspicious. So, we were looking at him more. >> I understand. >> Yep. You How do I did the two? >> Mhm. >> I did give my car to somebody for a while. >> Okay. >> But I won't tell y'all who cuz you know I mean at the end of the day y'all can put it on me cuz I never throw nobody up under the bus. >> Okay. >> So yeah. >> You said that was your aunt, right? That wrote you those checks. >> Mhm. >> Really? >> All right. How [clears throat] old are you? >> 18. >> Okay. So here, before we go much further, I'm going to read you your rights. Have you ever had your rights read to you? >> You have? Okay, that's fine. I just I'm going to read them to you. >> She had certainly convinced herself that silence was her greatest ally. But she was just about to find out how deep the trouble really was. >> After having your rights read to you, do you wish to speak to me? You don't want to You don't want to speak to me. Okay. >> All right. So, can you stand up for me? Can I put my hand up real quick? Yep. That's fine. And actually, real quick, since you're being comp, I'm going to definitely need you to take your cell phone out of your project. Is there anything else in your shorts at [snorts] all? >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. All right. Can you turn around for me? All right. Can you turn it kind of backwards like? Yeah, just like that. And like that'll be probably the most comfortable for you. All right. >> When she realized that silence was actually her greatest enemy, she decided to speak. But this time around, she cooked up a [ __ ] and bull story about where the money had come from. One that would hardly hold up under scrutiny. >> Are you willing to ask me a few questions? >> Sure. >> All right. So, first question is, how did you become in possession of that truck? >> It was given to me. >> It was given to you by >> I can't tell you the name. >> Can't tell the name. >> I don't know it. >> We just met. How y'all met >> outside? >> 957. >> You just met him outside. >> My boyfriend. >> How did you get here? >> This one. >> She told me pretty much the person gave me the check. Like it's from me. It's legit. It's got me. He told me it was his [music] cash. >> So he told you it was his so and you believed him sort of kind of >> cuz I knew he had money >> this. >> So what what he got money what does he do stuff scammer? >> No he works. Where he works at? >> Where he works at? >> Can't tell [ __ ] >> So what you going to get yourself caught up for some shenanigan, man? Put some dude that up to care. You say you didn't know him, but where he works at though? >> It's just a coach. Just a coach. >> He's a coach. >> But I don't know where. >> Football team. >> I don't know. >> Yeah. don't talk that much. >> So, how long you know how long you know this dude? >> Not long. >> What's not long? A week? Two weeks? 3 weeks? A month? Two months? >> A week. >> Just a week. >> Yeah. >> But so how y'all plugged up? How y'all connected? >> Just met. Oh, >> you just walking down the street and like, "Hey, what's up?" >> Yeah, like at the store. >> So, when when was that check written out? He hand it to you written out. What did you write when you got the cash up to the front? >> You signed the back. I >> signed the back. >> When you sign the back when you got here. So why you protecting this person if he's doing all this and you're risking your name for the sake of what? >> So $1,500. how much he he cut you. >> I don't know his name. Like I trust >> What I'm saying though, if he >> I'm not trying to go to jail. I just turned 18. I don't even have a record, >> right? >> I don't want to be in this situation. If I knew old boy name, I would have told you. >> Like I said, man, these scammers, this is what they do. They get some people and do this type of stuff and you get caught up. Old boy probably give you a real name or what? He probably give you a nickname to run with. >> Or or you could you can know him. You just don't want to give information. What kind of car you drove in? >> See you. >> It was the wife. >> It was the white van. >> I can't deal with this. I'm not trying to go with that. >> So, how many people in the car? Huh? How many people in the car? >> Two. But he was the only one that you feel me. >> Who? He was the only one. What? He was driving. >> Yeah. >> So, who was in the passenger? Your boyfriend? >> No. >> Yeah. It was my cousin. But he's not involved in that stuff. >> He has to be involved in some type of way. >> He was just there for a ride. He is not involved. So why he why he didn't tell a buddy just to stay for you or go see what's going on? I mean if my cousin my cousin went inside somebody took off with me. I'm like and what the hell? Why y'all left? Why you left my cousin? Let me out. >> He already got his own little things going on. >> Apparently she wasn't nearly as bright as she thought. She tried to make it seem like she was giving them something all while saying nothing at all. >> So he knew what was going on there. No, but >> he wouldn't put himself in no position to go back to jail cuz he wasn't involved. Simple. >> Just old boy. >> They don't want even old boy name. >> I don't know his name. >> You got no nickname something. >> You can't tell me you met somebody y'all didn't exchange no name or nothing like that. You going to do this type of work for him? >> Yeah. three is just like starting to talk like he don't even know my name. >> So a whole week I just Hey, what's up? Hey, what's up? Y'all don't address nothing. So he be texting me. >> No, >> just seeing what I see. >> See, it got to be it got to be a middle man, man. It don't make sense at all. So y'all just random me and bumping into each other every time. I mean, it's not like we met a week ago, but it's not like we just like >> if you met a week ago, >> you had to communicate somehow. >> We end up seeing each other at the store. It was like and I was telling him check and he was like, "Oh, I got you. I got something for you." That's what happened. I mean, right now you're looking at four felony charges. >> How many? >> Four. >> Four. >> Four. >> And that's >> Oh, you got to see a judge tomorrow morning and he's going to set a bond for you and you can choose to pay the whole amount or pay 10% of that. Your bond's going to be in a couple of thousand just to let you know. So, how many time beside this check, right? How many how many other checks he gave you? Two. >> Two more. >> Yeah. >> Those two were depositing your account. >> Yeah. >> All right. You [clears throat] can leave that door open. >> Yes. >> Um all at this bank. >> What other 60? >> And where else? Listen, >> I didn't have my car full. >> What am I even doing? Anyways, let me just check. I don't know his name. Like serious, but >> he be on that. >> He's on a scammer. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, who's the middleman? I can't tell you that cuz that person doesn't deserve that cuz they not even doing nothing. They just sit there. >> You got to understand though if >> you got some organized thing going on, right? and you are the least person that's recogniz. >> So you are basically like the bottom of the bottom, right? No disrespect or whatever. So you like the bottom fish. You're not the person that we I really want. I want to know who's the mastermind who's organizing all this, who's doing all that. You just just the lower end that's gonna get caught >> cuz that person know eventually this check gonna come back fraudulent. You go inside a bank. You don't think they got surveillance in here. >> I mean I would think you know that too, right? You would have know you know that too also. So that's a that's a risk you took also. >> But things he told me, right? Like these are not fake checks. These these are my checks. Got you. >> But you got to understand if it's if it's his check, if it's the legit, why is he why is he not cashing on his account? >> Why did he have to get somebody to do it for >> your That's true. I should have paid more attention. >> I just don't know his name. This is what happened. >> After the cops received nothing from the suspect her mother arrived at the station. If only she could be blunt in her judgment and avoid indulging such behavior, then maybe her daughter might finally learn the lesson she so desperately needed to. >> So, if I was to find that vehicle, do you think there would be more would there be more checks inside that vehicle? Maybe. >> Or other stolen stuff in that vehicle as far as fraud stuff. >> Maybe. Yeah. >> Where would it be at? >> I don't know. You just have to check. >> All right then. Um, no. You don't want to tell me nothing else? >> I don't know anything. >> I'm just asking. I'm just asking if you if you want to tell me what other information. Like I said, so far I have nothing. I can't I can do my investigation, try to figure it out, but >> I'm scared. >> I got nothing. >> All right. >> All right. Give me a second. All right. Is M coming? >> Hey, how you doing? What's up? >> Is M coming filming or >> M? Yeah, he's coming back. This is mom. >> Hello. How you doing? >> Hello. >> This is the detective. Yeah, I'm not working this, but I I just came and try to talk to her. >> She going to jail? >> Yeah, she is. >> Um, do you know who she hanging with? >> He just talking about some dudes. I don't even know who the that could be. >> She said one of them was She said one of them was her cousin. >> That girl go to school and go to work. Supposed to be at work right now. It's 3:00. >> She did mention something earlier about needing to be at work. lose your job. You work at a nursing home. >> Which makes me nervous where she's getting these checks cuz this is I hate to say it. This is typically how it happens. >> Like what the >> This driving me crazy. I just don't understand. I mean, they got to make their own mistakes though, >> right? >> How you knew she was here, >> huh? >> How you knew she was here? >> I got a phone call. She text me and said, "Mommy, I'm going to go to jail." >> All right. Gentlemen will go. >> This person standing out front. Are they with you? >> That's That's her mom. >> Okay. So, >> she's still out there. >> Oh, yeah. >> Are you pregnant or have any health issues? to learn about. >> You got to learn from no mistakes. >> You don't have anything on your contents. No cell phone. Nothing. Mom has it all. >> Okay. All right. Just be careful getting >> Don't say to nobody. Keep your mouth closed. >> Are those um grippers? >> I'm going to call you. >> Where's your phone at? Got her phone. >> She got it. Okay. How the phone is it still? Yeah. I got I'm >> the phone when she's in booking is free. It's free in booking, but I don't know. I think so. >> I have a good pass with her. >> I don't know. Did you get a hug or any of that? I I told her she's been >> She didn't want a hug. >> Want a hug? Okay. I just want to make sure. >> Yeah. Do I want a hug? >> You going to go It's going to be cold, baby. You going to get a taste of this. You going to have to learn, sweetheart. I love you. Don't cry. Don't cry. Thank you. >> Are you going to follow me there? >> Don't cry. Can you wipe my face first to the car? >> Don't cry. In the end, the suspect was charged with depositing with intent to defraud, uttering a forged check and uttering a worthless check. In the next case, we have a slowwitted scammer who tried to use a fake identity to rent a vehicle, then thought a marathon was the best escape route. I emailed a guy to say the house rental was warned so far. He emailed me back saying that he never picked up that his account had been hacked. >> On February the 11th, 2024, a Herz employee spotted a customer attempting to rent a car with a fake ID and then immediately [music] called the cops. Upon arrival, the cops met with the staff who explained what had led to the call. And as with any scammer, the suspect tried to deny it. He was supposed to be clever. After all, it took a certain degree of skill to pull off a scam. >> What's going on? >> This is a fake license. >> Why would I bring a fake license to the profile that he's using? >> Are you Are you saying I bring a fake license? >> The profile he's using is of a gold member that is a fake license. >> He actually >> the guy. >> Come here. SHOT, PLEASE. COME HERE. Heading towards stairwell 8. TAKING THE STAIRWELL. STAIRWELL 8. Head door is safe. Stop. GET ON THE GROUND NOW. >> Get your hands out. Get your hands out. >> Sounds like on the car whistle and then left. >> I'm coming. >> [snorts] >> 4:15. We're by the bus stop. >> Do you have anything on you we need to be concerned about? >> Knives, anything like that? We want to go to jail. >> We got a squad on scene. Oh, Matt's on scene. >> I went in the jail. >> Yeah, you are. >> He's ran from us >> because y'all just came to the bathroom that I was supposed to do. >> I got scared. >> After the suspect's amateur display, the cops turned to the company staff for a proper uninterrupted explanation. They gave them that and much more, leaving no doubt that the suspect wasn't going to get away with it. >> So, uh, can you just want to kind of tell me what happened? So, [clears throat] what happened was this morning, um, we emailed some of our customers. I emailed a guy to say his house rental was warned so far. He emailed me back saying that he never picked up >> and that his account had been hacked. >> So, you have his name? >> His name is Yep. Dennis Morris. >> So, you you emailed him? >> Yeah. >> What time was this? >> I emailed him about 8:30, 9:00 this morning. >> Can you give me a copy of that? >> Oh, email. Um, this is an email. This just asked some houses where they're going back to tell them that he never picked up and that his account has been and they had picked up on the resume. >> His account was hacked and then what? >> I had seen another resume for him that he just made at 328 today. >> Okay. >> So, that's my call then have him go over to the XDA club and know that if this comes up. So >> don't let them out. By the time we noticed that it was 3:30, Ben walked over to the exit gate to let them know so we have a radio saying they can hear us. Right when he got there, the guy was at the gate. So we just called our code out, let the gate up and act like our system was down till you guys got there. Damn, man. >> Sorry, bro. >> Want to take one hand out. Don't try anything. Not like on this scar. >> I have no weapons on me or anything. >> Did he say anything to you guys when we get that exit? >> Uh he was asking me how to get a larger vehicle. >> That's all he asked. >> Yeah. He was like uh well at first he he asked like, "Oh, your [ __ ] system was out over the radio." And he's like, "Oh, you guys [music] systems down." I was like, "Yeah, it's probably going to be a minute." And then you said the the actual guy with this name, he's like, is he like a special member with you guys? >> He's a gold member. >> Gold member. >> They just come pick their cars up, go to educate with their license. We verify their license, and >> we have their credit card information on file. So, >> okay. >> The suspect was prepared for what could very well be the worst days of his life before being transported to the station. Be careful my grills in here. >> My grills, brother. >> Yeah, I see that. Um, >> hello. >> Search. >> Hey, y'all done my phone and everything? >> Yeah, we're holding on to it. It's probably going to be taken as evidence. He was eventually charged with identity theft of information to obtain money, resisting an officer, and taking a [music] vehicle without the owner's consent. Trying to rent a car with a fake identity was bold, but not [music] as bold as trying to purchase a vehicle with fake identification. >> This is the photo that's attached to that driver's license. That's obviously not you. >> I don't know who that person is, but that's not me. When I ran that your driver's license number, this is the photo. Okay. >> On November the 22nd, [music] 2023, the Dallas Fort Worth Airport police were deployed to an Audi dealership to investigate suspected [music] fraud. When they arrived, the officers were greeted by the dealership staff, who without any hesitation presented undeniable proof of the suspected scam, ensuring not a single detail went unnoticed by the cops. >> Still here? >> Yes, sir. Absolutely. do a picture. Bring me the credit app to their service. So the roadster they handed him this. He doesn't have this on or she doesn't have this on her, but the numbers are the same. The date of births are different. And this one expired. >> So this we have had a lot of fun. >> So everything doesn't smell right on it. >> She by herself. >> She's with a a guy her and a guy. Where's their vehicle at? >> Um I I don't know what they're driving. I think it's the Dodge Charger out front registered to this person. >> So just in case they do run, they won't have a car. >> Okay. >> Point out what their vehicle is. >> I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming it's the blue Charger. I'm guessing on walking the lot, >> but if you pull up there, they're going to see walking. They're not going to be able to run. They're kind of back when we walk over there. >> Okay. Can you go run real quick? So we get a photo of that. Here's the credit out like >> this business is out of service that she says she's still currently employed with. >> All right. >> And if you when I pull credit this all of this is correct for this person >> address this house is owned I think by this person. >> You have her social. >> So she presented this. >> Yes. And that license. She presented the license and that >> I'm going to run the social and see what it comes back to. >> Okay. So, what came back with the actual name? This one over here. >> Everything. This This came back legit. >> Can you get the photo though? >> And that's the correct birthday, right? >> Take the three negative. >> Got any long office. That way they can't run. That's a more secured office. Do that even >> cuz right now where they're at, they can kind of pull both ways. But if I take him into his >> We'll let her We let him go cuz she's the one that presented everything, right? >> Yes. >> And this is the sales person that's been working with them. [snorts] >> I had nothing to >> You sure? Cuz that's not what he was telling us. >> Yeah. >> Hey, I'm I'm arrested. Can you go confirm and let me know once in office? Thank you. >> Yeah, Shib's office. They only have one door. So, they they'd have to go through you in order to get out. >> She presented the paper. [music] She said she got a new ID because this one shows expired cuz this one here shows it's expired. So, she presented this one and this one has a different date of birth. The officers met with the young woman to question her about the false ID. And like many scammers before her, she put on a flawless performance, as though she had been [music] rehearsing it for weeks. But what she didn't know was that her act would fail her sooner rather than later. >> How you doing? >> How you doing? >> Can we talk to you for a minute? >> Do you have your ID? >> Um, no. I didn't bring you. Huh? >> I didn't bring it. >> You didn't bring your ID? >> No, I did not. >> I don't know. This is their folder. I just got their phone. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, are you saying that's your ID right there? >> I literally just opened this up, but is that it? >> Is that what you presented? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Okay. And what's your name? >> And this is your ID? >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you have any other identification on you that shows your name? >> No. >> Credit card. >> I understand my information that I gave them. I have my insurance and everything. >> Okay. >> Do you have anything in your card? >> I understand my information that I gave them. I have my uh insurance and everything. >> Okay. Do you have anything in your purse that has your name on it? >> I have my information that I gave them. My insurance card. >> Okay. Do you have any credit cards or anything in your >> No, I wasn't told to bring that other than what I brought. >> Okay. Normally people bring normally people have other identification on them. >> No, because they said I didn't have to bring it cuz it hasn't came in yet cuz I lost it. Okay. >> So, they already knew. >> So, the question the thing is >> you trying to get >> So, what's going on? >> Okay. Well, the ID that that you presented comes back to somebody different. >> Comes back to the to the name, but it comes back to a Hispanic female. >> That can't be right. right next to his face. >> That's yours. So, were you trying to get a car or not? >> No, I'm trying to get my car. >> Well, that's why I'm asking you. Do you have anything else? >> Other than what? Other than what they told me to bring. >> Okay. Other than what they told me to bring. They didn't tell me to bring things. >> Okay. And you >> This is a I'm just looking through her for the first time, but that's >> Yeah, that's my insurance and everything. I don't know why >> what's going on. They told me to >> we're trying to figure out cuz there's some discrepancies. Like obviously she already showed you. >> I don't know why it's >> Okay, man. We're just trying to figure out what's going on. We were called here. >> Okay. So, you know, right now we're just investigating. >> Okay. Because they called us >> because I know that. >> Okay. Well, >> hey, what's your address? It's on here. No, but look at the numbers on those two. They're not the same, are they? >> What number are you looking at? >> Should be right. >> That number is the same as >> Yeah, >> that's the same. >> Okay, >> that's the same. >> Like I said, we're trying to figure it out as well. >> Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what's going on because >> cuz when I ran that number, >> see, the thing is I didn't even want to comment cuz I knew they was going to be tripping off my paper ID. >> Well, she's confirming this. Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on. She's confirming it. But when I ran in the license plate, hang on. This is the photo that's attached to that driver's license. That's obviously not you. >> I don't know who that person is. That's not me. >> When I ran that your driver's license number, >> that's why she's trying to figure it out. >> I need to figure it out, too. >> Okay, we will. >> Cuz how is that even possible? >> I have no idea. But that was that must have triggered something up front cuz >> I don't know because here's the thing. I didn't even want to come in with my paper ID. I told him because it I know how people get behind paper IDs. I told him I didn't want to come in with the paper. I told him I wanted to wait till my heart cop to come in. He said, "No, go ahead and bring the paper copy." I told him I want to wait till my heart to come in. >> Okay. >> I didn't even want to come. >> Just hang tight. She's making phone calls and she's confirming everything before >> I proceed. I didn't even want to bring a paper cop. >> You can ask the guy with that that I >> When did you get the paper? When did you get the paper one? >> You mean this one? >> No, the paper one. I got this one from the DMV. >> No, I know. But when >> it was like a week, a week ago ago. A week into days ago. >> She's looking at the paperwork. >> As the investigation progressed, her fraudulent acts became unmistakably clear. And with the evidence piling up, her ability to conjure new schemes to save herself began to wear thin. >> So, am I under arrest or something? >> We're just trying to figure it out, ma'am. >> Okay. So, you saying I'm not under arrest? >> No, not right now. Right now, we would call it just you're being detained right now until pending this investigation till we figure out what's going on with the license. Okay. >> Cuz like I said, when I ran that your driver's license number, that's the photo that popped up. >> That's me. >> And that's obviously not you. >> No, that ain't me. I don't look nothing like her. >> No. >> So, she's making some phone calls to see if it's a mistake on DMV's part or what's going on with it. Okay. >> What kind of happened? It happened. Okay. >> You have the paper ID. >> The new paper ID. >> I got it. Oh, >> you got it. >> Here's the old one. Here's the new one. >> No, no, no, no. The one that she the >> I don't have >> the original. The one that he >> the No, the copy that we made a copy of. >> The one that >> I think the guy had. >> No, he said he gave it back to you. Okay. >> So, check your >> The copy that we made a copy of. He would give it back to you. pretty much made a ID based off of all this information. So this is these are all the aka different names. So she used that name and then tone. So this is the real person, but that's not the real person. >> Yeah, I already showed her the photo. >> Yeah. What' she say? >> She said that's obviously not her. >> Okay. So, she's got the paper on her. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I need the paper. >> Oh, the original paper. >> No, that the ID. The one you have right there. >> I don't have an ID. There's no ID here. I don't have an ID in here. >> You don't have the paper ID? That's right. Oh, right here. Yes. >> This is the original one. And this one you got from the DMV? >> Yes. That's what I got from you. >> Okay. Well, this is obviously not you. >> No, the the copy. That's the cop I made the copy. I don't have the original. >> Okay. Well, obviously this isn't you. >> That is me on the >> I know, but this is not your ID. >> That is my ID. >> It's It's obvious. It's not the Okay. So So you presented this. This is This is um >> Okay, sir. Do you have some ID on you? >> On me? >> Yeah. Do you have a driver's license or ID card? >> The cops asked for a simple crucial piece of information, one everyone should know. And if she answered correctly, this ordeal might eventually come to an end. >> Your social security number. >> Social security number. >> What is it? >> What is it? >> You don't know your social security number? >> Go ahead and say it then. >> What do you mean? All you got to do is say your social security number, ma'am. >> Okay, ma'am. What's your last four? >> Okay, ma'am. You don't know the last four your social security number. >> I do. >> Hey, sir. Can you give me a favor? Can you go and exit the room for us? >> Here you go. Watch. Hold on to this. Okay. Go have a seat. Yeah. Go have a seat over there cuz I need to add you to this call. Go have a seat right there for me. >> No, I'm I'm going to show you, sir. And I know >> I'll explain everything in just a minute. >> Yeah, but she looked. She just looked. >> You just looked it up. >> No, I was on Credit Karma. >> I was on Credit Karma. >> Okay. >> I was on Credit Karma. >> Why don't you have to look at your phone to come up with your last four? Okay. Give us your Give us close that up and give us your full social security number. Then close that up. Don't look at it. >> I didn't look at it. >> Okay. What's your full social security number? I I don't know nothing. >> Well, unfortunately for you, I have to put you in cuz you were here with her. That's why I ran your driver's license. Okay. But she was I just left you a message. That was your number, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. We did everything we could to prove that that she was who she was. And she actually made the case even stronger against her. I asked her because we all have a mom or dad. She I asked her for her mom's phone number so I can verify through her mom her date of birth and all that. And that's why I called you. She gave me your phone number and that was pretty much it along with everything else. That's why she was placed under arrest for fraud. Uh she does have a child. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You might want to pick up the child cuz she's probably going to be in jail for at least through the night. Okay. >> Through the night. So, when she'll be up? >> She'll call you as soon as she can. She She's allowed all the phone free phone calls that she she wants while she's here in our custody. We have a facility here at DFW airport. The previous scammer's actions were downright shameful. for the next scammer wasn't any better as he tried to cash a $24,000 check that wasn't his. >> He just took $3,000 around that out with my teller. Leaves, comes back in, tries to now take 8,000 out. >> You got a warrant for some sort of failure to deliver uh return funds. It's out of P County, so we're,000 bucks. >> On November the 7th, 2022, officers were sent out to Chase Bank in response to a reported fraud. Immediately as they arrived, they met the suspect whose girlfriend arrived moments later. While the suspect played the part of a clueless bystander, his girlfriend's statement made one thing known. This was no simple case, and the officers had barely scratched the surface. >> Hey partner, can I talk to you over here? Can you see for me? >> You have your ID on you? >> Oh, they got my name. >> They do. Okay. What's your name? >> Xavier. >> Xavier. Okay. >> And you're 27. I'm 10 outside. >> I don't know if there's a problem at the counter or whatever, but you here with anybody else I mean, I'm here with my girl. >> Okay. All right. You have an account here? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Just hang tight, man. We'll figure it out. Okay. >> I just want to know what's going on. >> Okay. Just hang tight. >> That's my girlfriend. >> Are you going to the restaurant? >> You have a seat. Just have a seat. Yeah, >> I was saying when anybody else gets 10 12, we can cancel, but just keep it up for now. >> I'm sorry. Um, she wants to go to a restaurant. Is that okay? >> Can you have a seat for me? >> Have a seat there. Let me know. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Do you have his ID? Do you have his ID on the guy? >> The guy working on it. Do you need it? >> I will. >> Okay. Thank you. Officer 10. I'm going to get his ID really quick. Can I have a B? >> My letter 095801373. >> Ma'am, do you have your ID on you? >> No. >> You don't have any ID on you? >> I don't have no >> What's your name? >> Janelle. What? >> Just in your wallet? >> Why? Why does anything? >> I'm just asking. You guys are together. So, do you have an account here? >> I'm not together with anybody. >> I just thought he just walked in and he watched me walk in. >> You know him? Yeah, I know him, but I'm not with him. >> I just go in to go to to the hospital. >> That's all I come here. >> I supposed to meet up with him. >> Oh, so you hospital. >> Determined to crack the case wide open, an officer approached a staff member who carefully recounted the events that led up to their arrival and handed over documented evidence. >> Hi. >> All right. So, what's going on? >> So, this here is his profile. This is the account. This is a check he deposited and he just took $3,000 around that out with my teller. Leaves, comes back in, tries to now take 8,000 out. When my teller goes through the transaction history, you'll see all the withdrawals from that $25$25,000 that he's cashing out on. And it's all different branches. So, by the time he came back for the second round, my bankers put my back office put a prohibited status on the debit card cuz it drew a red flag to my back office. >> Mhm. So they froze the card. So now he went to go insert the card again and take out the 8,000. My teller's like, "This card, we use embossed cards. We don't have cards like this." So then we're like, I call my back office. >> Okay. So sorry, this card wasn't >> this ours are embossed. So like the the letters are the numbers are raised. >> Isn't this one raised? >> No, this is embedded. It's not embossed where it sticks out like a braille. Do you know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I could show you mine. Come over here. So they're different. So those aren't our cards. Like you don't have to use cars like that. >> Yeah, no worries. >> Here you have a change here. That's our cards. Sorry, mine got run over by a car, but >> So those are our cards. >> Okay. >> So he just took out money from my teller and came back to try to do it again. Um and then I called the business owners up and cuz they have accounts with us and I said they're in Ohio. >> Midway. >> Yeah. And I said, "Hey, this person's here trying to they deposited a $24,000 check. Can you verify and make sure that that's there?" She goes, "No, we've been at the bank all day." She's like, "Please been frauded." And D. So, I spoke with the owner. Um, so she's never authorized anything. >> All right. So, >> sorry, I was going to use my card. >> When was this checked? >> And who is it deposited and how is it deposited? >> Into his account. >> Okay. the same ID that matches and they just restricted everything for me. >> Okay. >> So, it was deposited on what's today? >> Sunday. Today's what? Monday the 7th 6th on Saturday. >> It was deposited on Saturday. >> Sad. Hold on. It's even showing uh No, Friday ATM deposit on the 4th 114. >> And then he's been bleeding. >> Why is there two copies of this check? Oh, cuz the one of them has the signature that he did. I cut off on that one. >> Okay. >> So, I just wanted to give you the same. Oh, they both came out on both, did it? >> Okay. So, hang on to one. I want to get myself. >> Okay. So, >> he's been taking out all of it. >> So, where can you print me out the deposit for this >> for? Yeah, it's a ATM deposit. >> Okay. And when you say bleeding it, like >> he's like been spending all the money. >> Okay. So, the deposit cleared on what day? Uh, >> it says Okay, hold on. I can tell you right now. Give me a minute. On the 5th. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, >> on the 5th, which was Saturday, made an ATM deposit. >> No. >> Uh-huh. >> Is there any way to tell which ATM that was? >> Yes. Hold on. >> Cisco, you needed me, sweetie. >> Do you need my EJ >> in a minute? Yes. I'll keep you posted. is Cypress Parkway to Sydney, Florida. >> Okay. >> So, it >> You need me to print that? I can print that for you. >> Yeah. >> So, >> he deposited over there. >> Mhm. >> And then the next day it cleared. >> Okay. >> And then he cleared cleared on Sunday. >> Uh the fourth was Friday. >> Was it Friday? Yeah. >> So, Saturday it cleared. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Cuz it's a chase check. So then if we see that the funds are there, we don't know like the systems are doing it can't read the you know the stuff. >> Okay. >> So it's going to make it available. Um and then there's pending transactions there. >> So then he came back today and took out >> and took out 3,900 of my money that he's got in his possession. >> And then he left. >> Cash. Okay. >> Cash. Yep. And then he left. Came back again and was like, "Oh, that worked. Let me try 8,000 now." And he gave my teller some story like he's going away. He didn't cash. >> It's over here cuz you only seeing the front part. and I'm printing it out for you. >> Okay. >> So, um, it tried to be 8,000, but by that time, my back office, too, restricted the account, the card. >> The man who attempted to steal from a bank stayed calm while his girlfriend acted as though she was the real victim in the situation because she thought that everyone was out to get her. >> Do me a favor. Just stay off that phone right now while we're >> just stay off the phone right now. You're in the middle of an investigation right now. >> I didn't answer. This is not okay for her. >> Well, I'm sure you were texting her and told her that we were here. >> No, I called her and then I texted her saying, "Colle now she's calling." >> So that's why she's called >> Yeah, that's stressing her out. She's going through breast cancer and then cancer all the time and I'm an only child and stress is not good for a teen patient. Correct. >> I don't know. I mean, you're a police officer. >> Well, I'm not a medical student. >> You should You're supposed to be protecting the community, right? Trying to hurt my mom, but not by protecting and serving us. >> You're not free to leave. You're not going to be talking on the phone right now. You're in middle of investigation. >> Oh, I'm not really. >> If you want to make this more difficult for yourself, by all means, you completely dictate which way this goes. So that is 100% up to you. >> Already lied twice. >> I lied. >> You said you weren't with him. >> I didn't come here with him. That's what the question was. >> But you're here with him. You know him. >> I came to meet up. >> He called you babe. >> Then you said you didn't have a wallet or a purse. >> This is not a purse. This is not even a wallet. >> I'm sure your ID is in there. >> And I'm sure your ID is in there. >> Is your ID in there? >> My medical card's in there. So I already gave it to Here's your ID in there. >> I don't have one. >> Okay. >> So, what are you saying? >> I'm going to get nowhere. >> I know, man. It's like talking to a law. >> After receiving detailed information from the bank's employee, the officers knew that they didn't need to waste any more time as the case had already set its course. >> Hey, let's um Hey, you got a warrant for some sort of failure to deliver uh return funds. It's out of P County, so your bond is 1,000 bucks. So, I'm gonna put you in a car and then we'll talk about what's going on. Okay. >> All right. >> My bond's down. So, it's gonna be $100. Give me >> I'm gonna come back and talk to you. Okay. >> Tell you what's going on. >> But is that true? >> $100. >> If he goes to a bond, >> yeah, you got to move%. >> Tell your mom now. I can be on my phone. >> If you get this done, if you get this done now, just wait for him to come back >> sometime today. You want me to have your phone? >> You got anything going on in P County? >> No. The last thing I was I was on probation. >> That may have been I signed my I went to court and I signed my fine. I Well, I didn't sign my fine. I just I signed my probation release paper and they didn't give me a 4 day after that. >> Okay. >> Can you stay t for a couple minutes? >> Yeah. >> At this point, the officers decided to speak to his girlfriend. It was a chance for herself to choose honesty, save herself from the hangman's noose, and if possible, throw her man under the bus. But the cops would eventually come to realize that being a girlfriend to a fraudster meant that she was one herself. >> All right. boyfriend. >> Wait, we just met each other. >> Yeah. >> So, you just met him, but your address is the same. >> Are you living with him? >> Yeah, I just No. Um Okay. So, I only know of him because his brother is my friend. So, um when he got out of jail, he needed a new address cuz his ex-girlfriend didn't want to give him back his uh birth certificate and social security number. >> What's your phone number? And for him to get a job, I'd be let him be my >> What's What's uh your phone number? >> Were you here earlier today? >> No. Okay. [music] >> When you see me when you see me when you were talking in that was my first time ever walking in here. >> That was your first time walking in here? >> Yeah. >> So, where are you guys going to go after this? >> I was going to go see. My mom's at on seven on the seventh room in the fifth floor right now >> with him. I was going to go with him. Yeah. >> Okay. How you guys going to get there? >> All right. Um, did he tell you what he was doing here? >> No, I didn't know why he was I didn't even know he had a chase. >> No, he had to play chase or anything. I I don't know none of that stuff. >> All right. Give me a couple minutes. All right. >> In the end, the suspect's girlfriend didn't face any charges. while the suspect was charged with uttering a forged check, defrauding a financial institution, and grand theft of $20,000 or more, but less than $100,000. Still on scammers realizing that they've been caught in the act, we have Sharon, who would posed as a cashier while secretly stealing $7,000 from her employer. >> She would make a a copy cuz they have to make a copy of the the Ford pass transaction and put it along with that paperwork. So when it went through accounting, they said, "Okay, here's the payment. Is that too tight? You want an extra cuff? >> On April the 29th, 2025, officers received reports of a Ford dealership cashier who converted customer loyalty points into personal cash, allegedly stealing up to $7,000 in Ford Pass rewards. When the officers arrived, the company's manager provided not just a thorough account backed by solid evidence, but a revealing portrait of the nature of the person behind the crime. I have uh copies of the actual Ford pass reward where she created the bogus account. She already deleted it. >> Don't think so. Explain what you think she >> So the customer customers can sign up for the program for for it's called Ford Pass Rewards. She created a bogus account. >> You say customer. So she did she ever we're going to get this in a statement. We're not on record now, but did she create these accounts all of them herself or they were already existing? >> This one she created. >> Okay. For herself >> using her her um last name as her her maiden name. >> Okay. >> That's why we never recognized it. >> Got you. >> And her second name uh which she never uses. >> Will you raise your right hand, please? Do you swear that what you're about to tell me in this recorded statement will be the truth? The whole truth and nothing but the truth? Yes, I do. >> Thank you. All right. So, in your own words, what led you to file a police report alleging that a former employee had uh embezzled money from the company? >> So, uh what triggered it was a c a parts customer came to return a part normal transaction and in the course of that we always have to find out how the original payment was made. In this case, we found out that the customer uh had the paint the transaction had been registered as a redeeming for Ford pass points which is a reward system that Ford has. But in the ledger, the customer [clears throat] the customer's receipt was stamped cash. So they paid cash. But in our on our books, it got registered as points rewards. That led us to start investigating. And we find out that the the lady was taking the cash, pocketing the cash, and then >> for the record, let me stuck it. What lady are you referring to? >> Oh, Sharon Quasiro. How do you spell her last name? >> K W A S C I G R O H. And >> you're referring >> first name is Sharon. >> S H A R O N. >> Yes. >> Let me see that please. So you're referring to the name from this right here. Correct. >> Yes. >> Are these the identity documents that she gave when hired? Yes. >> Okay. Go ahead, please. Um, so we then that led us before we even addressed her, we pull the record of the of the Ford Pass account and come to find numerous transactions both um awarding points to that account and then redeeming all the red when I say redeeming means they cashed out. So all of those transactions were cash payments, mostly parts, but some were in ser service invoices that were redeemed where the cash customer paid cash, but cash never made it into our register. The the payment was registered as redemption from that bogus account. >> All right. So to if you were explaining this to a sixth grader for example. So she worked here. What was her job title? >> Cashier. >> Cashier. Parts cashier or just any cashier >> ser all around service and parts. >> So customer a real customer would come in do a transaction and pay cash for that transaction. >> Correct. >> Uh were they utilizing their Ford's point for Pass account or just a strictly simple cash? >> I'm paying cash. All right. She would then take that cash, stick it in her pocket. It would never make it in a register. >> Correct. >> And then she would ring up the transaction as if a customer used their points to pay for the item. Correct. >> Therefore, on your end, when you look at the paperwork, it all balances out. >> Correct. >> The evidence kept flooding in as if there was no limit, making it certain that Sharon's hope for escape would remain nothing more than a wild dream. >> Now, your investigation, when what date range did it identify she did this from? So it started first transaction was October of 2024. >> October what do you know? >> October 31st was the first registered transaction on that account. >> Okay. >> And the final >> and the final was February 5th of 2025. Okay. What's a total theft if you identify? >> Total theft is what I came up with was $7,143.75. >> I'm sorry. Say that one more time. >> $7,143. >> Did you ever interview any customers who told you I paid cash or I did this or I did that? Did you ever speak to any customers to verify? the only one and and it's only because it happens to be a personal friend uh where he does not he didn't pay cash he paid his his transaction normal but she took she used his payment this is where she accumulated points since he didn't have a Ford pass account she registered herself tech. She would have to register herself as put her email in his account so that she can redeem the points that he sp that he accumulated by pay just normal pay. >> Now did she do this for the purposes of jing with accounting? In other words, these points she was creating is she used that to cover the cash transactions. >> Correct. >> Okay. Um >> so this >> she used the same email for multiple customers for example. How are you able to tie multiple? >> Well, the way the system works, she would have to before she fully processes this transaction, she can she so here she paid with a credit card. She took payment. Customer left my my you know he left with a stamp paid. Then before she so our work paperwork has to be technically closed in the computer system. So what she does is she has to go in put her email on his account first >> which he has the capability of doing as an employee. >> Correct. Then she closes the paperwork. Now [snorts] Ford cuz Ford grabs the points passively. They just see the >> that's done through corporate >> right the Ford system. So once once when she closes the work order now Ford says in this case the customer spent $1,85 those points the equivalent of those points get attached to that account. Then then she goes in and removes the email after that. >> All right. >> And how were you able to if it was removed how were you able to determine that that email was used originally? only because it shows up on on the list of of redeemed points. There's only one way to do that. >> All right. So now this stack of records here, just explain what it is and all. >> So on here you're going to see the customer the I'm sorry, description of the points. These are the dates. >> Mhm. >> Invoice number. So anything starting with a one was a parts invoice. Anything with a nine is a service invoice. >> Okay. >> Uh points redeemed means points that were cashed out >> to pay for those transactions >> to pay for cash transactions. And points earned or could have been uh either a cash or or credit card payment that was used to accumulate points. >> Okay. Um, so anything that shows >> So these amounts you're putting are the cash that she stuck in her pocket. >> This Yes. >> All of those, right? All of those are the whole column is the cash she stole. >> When I wrote when I all these that I hand wrote is actual cash that was redeemed. When you see these numbers that are typed in uh in the printout, these this is what was earned for this transaction here. Okay. >> Those are the points that went into that account, >> right? For each individual transaction, would you be able to show that for example that one there, this customer's 13,000 was used for this customer's cash? >> Is there no because what it does is it goes into basically the pot. >> The pool. >> All right. I see. >> And then as she saw that that there was enough money, she would cash out. So she when she started here back here, all she did was accumulate points from October and then you know it just she all she was doing was accumulating points and then the very first cash transaction that she took out she went for for for the home run was this one here in December. 96,000 points were redeemed for a a service transaction for $2,575.92. >> The manager also detailed Sharon's excuses, but none of them were convincing enough to justify her actions. Absolutely nothing could make stealing from a company that had placed its trust in her any less humiliating. >> And these points she redeemed were accumulated from prior fraudulent >> from all these from all these other papers. So So it goes from here forward. All of this was accumulated and then right here she had enough points to cash that out. Back up just a little bit. When I confronted about the the name on the account and the email, I said, "So if I when I hand this over to detectives and you know the sheriff's office and they backtrack this, it's not going to come up with your name." That's when she kind of >> changed and admitted. So she admitted in front of all of us that yes, she was doing it. >> Can you tell me her exact words that you can recall? >> She trying to remember. She said, "Well, when once I got her to admit that where the money was and and she said, I I don't," she said, "Well, I I just needed money." And [snorts] then we found out later that there's some family problem, but I didn't really get into that, but that doesn't excuse it. Anyway, >> anything else? That's about all I can recall right now. >> Did she tell you there was family problems? >> No, I found out through the rumors. >> Through the rumors. >> Okay. So, just to make sure, she never said, "I used the money to gambling or whatever else." >> No, she was very very elusive in that process. She just said the money was gone. >> Okay. So, what happened after that? Um then uh at that point I asked her to you know immediately terminated her and asked her [clears throat] to leave the premises. >> The officers finally reached out to the suspect but they had no idea of the kind of behavior she would display. All they could do was hope for the best. >> Hey Sharon, thanks for showing up. Do you have anything else on you? Just your phone? >> Yeah. >> Your phone? Your keys? >> No, I was able to lock my keys. >> Okay. >> With the like an app on your phone. >> A button. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Just got to detang handcuffs for now. Okay. >> You want to take your sweater off now or? >> No, we could take it in the jail. That way it can just go in the property. Just put your arm back. Is that too tight? You want an extra cuff? Thanks for being so cooperative. It's a lot easier this way. Just lock this so that way you don't get pinched. So, you don't have nothing in your pockets at all? It's >> my phone. >> Oh, it's in your back pocket. Where are your keys at? It's just a rock paper. Okay. Can you fit through there or do you want to walk around? have a seat right there and we're going to drive around to the jail. Sharon was ultimately charged with felony grand theft and was instructed to pay back the full $7,000. She was sentenced to three years of probation. Up next is this con artist who attempted to purchase a car using fraudulent paperwork thinking that he could get away with it. On the 25th of November 2022, Shambli police officers responded to a call from a dealership reporting a man who had purchased a car with fraudulent paperwork. When the officers arrived at the scene, they had no clue that they would be dealing with one of the trickiest scammers of all time. >> Hello. How you doing today, sir? >> Got your license on you? >> Hello, man. You don't have any identification on you? >> No, ma'am. >> All right. What's your name? >> Can I ask you why? >> I'm going explain everything to you in a second. What's your date of birth? >> Why you waiting? >> Sit down. Sit down. Sit down. All right. Yeah, you go ahead and step out. 105. You chill me. All right. Who's your dad? What you mean? Who was my dad? >> They say you came to pick up the car for your dad. Correct. >> No, I didn't come up to pick up a car for my dad. >> The car that you're up here in reference to. You didn't tell them that that was your father's car. >> No, I didn't tell them that that was my father's car. >> All right. So, you give me your side [music] of the story. >> What are you talking about? I said I was coming up here to pick up some paperwork. I said I was trying to help someone. >> Okay. Who? >> My friend Eric. So, you didn't tell these people >> that was my dad. No, I never said anyone was my father. >> Okay. How long have you known Eric? >> I just I I I known him. Why? I'm just wondering what >> how do you know >> what is going on? Can I ask you that? What is going on? >> So, the car that you came up here in reference to, there's some fraud that is involved in the car. >> It's fraud. >> Yes, sir. Realizing that the cops being around meant trouble, this cunning guy decided it was a smarter move to feain ignorance and distract them with some story. And it nearly seemed to be working, at least for the moment. >> So, your friend Eric, >> you know him? How? >> Uh, I I know him. That's >> how >> That's a person that I met. >> Met where? >> I met out just out and about. What did >> you know him how long? >> Uh, a couple months. >> Couple months. Okay. And where's Mr. Eric? >> Uh, actually, he's uh I just got off the phone with him. >> Where is Mr. Eric? >> I don't know exactly where he's at. >> I was just told that I was to come up here and hand and hand him something and tell him that I was supposed to give him uh a piece of paper or he was supposed to give me a piece of paper and I was supposed to transport the piece of paper. That's all I was told. But the officers knew that something wasn't adding up and questioned him further. It was at this point that his stories got even more ridiculous. >> So why did Mr. >> Because >> he's not able to. >> Why is he not able to? >> He's sick. >> So he's sick at home, sick in the hospital, sick. >> I don't know exactly where he's at currently. I'm just telling you. I don't know. >> Okay. What's Eric's last name? What's his date of birth? >> Uh, I don't know exactly. Let >> me see his phone number, sir. >> Why you said to him, right? >> Yes. I'm I'm asking you a question. You ask >> investigating a fraud case. I already explained that to you. >> A fraud? >> I'll be on This says fraud for for what? That's what I'm trying to understand. >> If you have nothing to do with it, then don't worry about it. >> Okay. >> Are you involved? >> 312. I'm not >> Okay. 312 >> 312. >> Uh-huh. [music] >> Y'all messages are blue or green. >> Huh? The messages that y'all have between each other, are they blue or green? >> What do you mean? Are they blue or green? >> Are your messages in your phone blue or green? >> This is my private phone. >> That's fine. I'm asking you, are your messages green or blue? >> My phone is a iPhone. >> I know yours is a iPhone. I'm looking at it. So now I'm asking you when you're talking to Mr. Eric, is your messages green or blue? >> I don't know. You said, "Is they green or blue?" Yeah. >> Did their iPhone messages? Why? >> So they're blue. >> Yeah. What are you >> So you seem to be really struggling with this contract. >> No, because I don't understand what's going on. >> How did you arrive here today? >> Ma'am, I just actually just uh pulled up right in the vehicle. >> What vehicle? >> It's actually outside. >> What vehicle? >> It's a Camry. I'm trying to figure out It's a white Camry. I'm trying to figure out exactly what the hell is going on. Is that your vehicle? >> No, it's not my vehicle. >> Whose vehicle is it? >> It's my friend's vehicle. >> Who's your vehicle? I mean, who's your friend? You got a lot of friends, sir. >> Eventually, he started to realize that he might not escape from this situation. >> What is it that you want from me? >> Who's your friend's vehicle? What's your friend's name? >> The license plate is out there. Like, I haven't done >> asking you who. >> Her name is Melissa. >> Melissa who? >> Oh my god. Her name is Melissa. >> So you don't know her last name, >> ma'am. Her name is Melissa. I'm >> So you don't know her last name? I just want to confirm. >> I don't even know what you want. >> All right. What's Melissa's number? >> Ma'am, her her information is right there. I >> Sir, what's her number? Ma'am, I don't even know what you want from me. >> Melissa's number. I just stated it. >> I don't I don't have it. >> How do you get in touch with Miss Melissa? >> Ma'am, I don't Why? Why are you asking me all of these questions? I don't even know what you talking about. >> Okay, sir. I'm asking you simple questions. Are you understanding the questions that I'm asking? >> I'm trying to figure out why. What is going on? And you're not answering anything. You're saying >> investigating fraud. >> Okay. How what do that has to do with me? I don't even understand what the hell is going on. >> You're here. >> You a car. >> So, that's how you're involved. And this is why I'm now asking you questions to determine if you don't know what's going on or if you do. If you don't, then we'll handle it with Mr. Eric. If you do, then that changes the ball game. >> Come on, man. You know, it's crazy. She'll tell you this is her car. It's a cross at 3:05. >> It was now becoming clear that no one had sent him and that he had pulled this scam off on his own. >> All right. Were you the gentleman who came and picked up the car? >> No. >> So, if they show me video, I'm not going to observe you picking up the car. >> No, I don't remember picking up a car. >> How do you not remember picking up a car? It's a simple Did you pick the car up or No, >> I didn't. I don't know. So, I'm not going to see you on video. >> I don't know. >> Sir, you're making this very hard on yourself. Okay. >> I don't know what you're talking about. >> The crime that we're here for is very, very serious. >> What is that? >> Do you have any felonies on your background? >> Fraud. Fraud for what? >> The vehicle, sir. What else would I be here at a Chevy dealership for? >> So, again, did you pick the car up or no? You know, I don't know what you're talking about. >> All right. I'm going to let them play the video and then that'll determine whether or not you want to leave up out of here today. All right. >> Yeah. I I I know I did. >> Okay. So, you did pick it up. Now, why did you pick the car up? >> Because I was told that I was able to pick it up. >> Sir, I just want to get down to who sent you here. If you're the main player, then that changes it. >> Changes what? >> Changes what? The car was purchased. >> Yes, ma'am. >> By fraud. >> As you know, the dollar amount of that car throws you in the felony ring. >> So, I'm trying to have a simple conversation with you to determine what what part you play in. >> Ma'am, I don't have no part in it. >> Okay. So, Mr. Eric did everything. Okay. And so, why did Mr. Eric tell you to pick the car up? >> I was told to pick up the vehicle. I was told to >> Why? Because that that's what they told me to do. >> You didn't ask them any questions. You didn't think it was suspicious. >> What do you mean? I get paid. And then I would They told me they say, "Hey, you pick up the car." That was it. >> Okay. How much did he pay you to pick the car up? >> Uh, I think it was like 50 bucks. >> 50 bucks? >> Yeah. >> Okay. How did he pay you? >> Uh, cash. >> In cash? >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right. Has Mr. Eric asked you to pick up any other cars? >> No. So, this is the only car and then he sent you back in again today. Okay. >> I don't know what's going on. >> All right, hang tight. >> Because his stories were not making any sense, the officers now needed to get further evidence from his phone. And that's when he decided to show them that he wasn't going to be an easy one to deal with. >> All right, sir. Let me see your phone. >> Sir, let me see your phone. >> For what? >> Sir, let me see your phone. >> Are you Am I detained or what? >> My phone is being confiscated. Let me see. Confiscated for what? >> Sir, I don't want to have to keep repeating myself over. >> I'm asking you a question. You can tell me why my phone is being confiscated. >> You're being investigated over fraud. You came and picked a car up and now you're here again. Let me see your phone. >> At this point, he already knew that his scheme had failed and that he had been caught, but he still had one more trick up his sleeve. >> Hey, get him. Get him. Get him. Get him. again. Taser. Stop. Right there. Turn around. Turn around. Taser. Taser. Get out. Hook him up. Hook him up. Sir, that's assault on a Leo, too. So, you going to have a good day today. >> Yeah, that's Was this him on the side? >> No. >> No. >> Hey, you got to pause me. Let's knock that wall over. >> Sit up. >> Come on. All right, sir. Get your knees underneath you, sir. Get your knees underneath you. Appreciate it. Back. Unknown to the officers, the scammer wasn't done with his dumb antics, and he was just about to make an even more daring escape. >> Stop, man. >> [bell] >> In the end, he was charged with assault against a police officer, providing false identification, obstruction, tampering with evidence, and taken to the Decal County Jail.
