I'm a city council rep. >> Okay. All right. He's my buddy. >> Okay. >> You under [music] arrest for operating a motor vehicle or under the influence. You can just relax. >> Some corrupt, powerful [music] people often think they're untouchable, using their status to bend the rules and dodge the consequences of their unlawful actions. But what happens when they run into [music] a good cop who isn't afraid to put them in their place? >> Fine. I'm a justice of the peace. I'm an elected official. And I know Sharon Helder. He is a friend of mine. No, no, no. >> Your tag expired from 2020. >> Then you're receiving a citation for your tag being expired by 2 years. >> Here are moments when good cops humiliated corrupt [music] people in power. The first case takes us to the city of Santa Fe where John Duo, the city's director of public works and utilities, believes that he could get away with stealing other people's [music] Christmas presents. >> What do you do for the city, John? >> The utility director for their uh water, waste water. I didn't want someone else to have to go through that. So, I was literally just trying to help. >> Placed under arrest for lararseny of the package. Okay. On December the 27th, 2024, a couple fresh off their flight [music] from Denver arrived at Santa Fe's Regional Airport, expecting nothing more than a routine stop, grabbing their luggage, and heading home. But what they were about to witness was far from routine. >> I think you had a pair of pants, >> two flannels, pair of pants. I don't remember. There's just a couple t-shirts. Nothing crazy, but >> an antique like large pulley that we got at an antique shop in Kansas. >> Say that name again. >> Like a like a barn pulley. Like a >> like a pulley. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Like an antique one. >> Hook and wheels and block and [music] tackle. >> Yeah. Random. >> Um an ember. >> What would you estimate the the barn pool at? >> 50 bucks. >> Well, 50 bucks in Kansas. It's like 100 to 200 here because they don't >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Um a heated mug system that runs about 110 on Amazon for that brand. Um like >> there was an ornament organizer, some like essential oil, bath salts, [sighs] freaking >> some Hot Wheel cars. [gasps] >> Yes. Most of the large value stuff I've already told you that was like the hundreds of dollars worth. >> Three, four, seven. Yeah, it's probably all sitting. The main thing we want is freaking artwork. And that'd be kind of cool if Jackass McGee who's like, "Oh, yeah, that's my box." >> So, [music] it's based on what you guys told me, it's over $1,000 >> approximately. It's quite a bit. >> And you guys live in Los Alamos? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And who did you talk to first when you noticed the bag was gone? Where's the bag? He's looking for the bag. >> Yeah, it was a gentleman. He's not here anymore. He was one of the United >> You guys came in on United. >> Yeah. And so we just came straight here. >> Flight numbers. Do you want to do this? >> No, I'll get that from security. >> Yeah, cuz I gotten a text that said, "Your bag had already arrived on an earlier flight. Just go to the baggage claim, talk to an agent. It's the text I got." And then they're like, "We don't have it." And then, you know, so on. They looked at security and >> let me go with security and see what I can see on the video they'll provide me and then I'll be right out. Okay. >> Thank you. In the monitoring room, the thief was identified. John Deuis, Santa Fe's director of public [music] works and utilities. He had stolen the bag full of presents, completely unaware that his every move had been caught on camera. >> He already has his bags. [music] >> He's got a couple bags. He's got two check bags. Like I said, one of them was some kind of firearm and uh and another a bigger roller. [clears throat and laughter] So what happens is he's sitting there the American Airlines cuz they just can't send his gun through there. Yeah. >> So he bring he walks it in here and hands him that case and uh and his other roller bag. >> And those are the only two bags he checked. >> Yes. So, at that point, he's >> he has all his stuff right now. >> He has all his stuff. >> He's on the phone. Maybe he's just hanging out while he's on the phone. I don't I mean, who knows? >> Um, [clears throat] >> where does it show American Airlines? Give him his bag. >> Oh, did you want to see that? Yeah. Okay. Okay. So, he comes in the back door. The two items. >> Okay. Like [clears throat] a rifle case and a black roller. >> And you know it's a rifle case cuz of the color of the tag that's on it. >> Hands it to him. And that's at 10446. >> Yep. So every everybody leaves pretty much. >> Mhm. >> There's still they remain after he leaves. So what happens is [clears throat] the United Grounds guy will come in here and you there's no audio on this, but you could tell he asked some, you know, if this is anybody's stuff. They say no. He claims the box. And so the United guy takes this bag and brings it inside. He ends up getting up, picking up the box. You kind of see he's kind of scoping around right now. I think he's already got the idea in his head. [clears throat] So, his truck ex is actually parked close by. So, the fact that he's kind of lingering. So, he's going to take those two to [snorts] his truck and come back for those. Why he switched those out, I don't know. >> The suspect was finally identified as John Dewa, Santa Fe's director of public [music] works and utilities. But this was far from over as officers set out for an unannounced visit to his home. With enough evidence stacked against him, officers made their move, one that he didn't see coming. He probably knew the reason for the officer's visit to his residence at the time of the night. But being a connected man, this was probably going to be a walk in the park. Or so he thought. >> John. >> Yes. >> Can we talk to you for a second? >> Yes. >> I'm just in a robe. Yes. Okay. Do me a favor, sir. Place your hands behind your back for me. >> Stop. You're being detained. Okay. >> You're being detained. Just relax. >> I'm like naked. >> Hello. Put some clothes on. We're going to have to have a conversation. >> Okay. All right, John, you're being detained. Why don't >> we step you inside so your neighbors haven't seen you like this? >> Yes, please. Thank you. >> Should we have a seat right there if you don't mind? >> Yeah. >> There you go. Appreciate. >> Of course. >> There a light here, John? >> Yes. >> No light. All right, John. >> [clears throat] >> So right now I'm going to read you Miranda rights. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say during this interview can be used as evidence against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney before and during questioning at all times. Cannot afford an attorney will be provided for you without cost you your family. If you decide to answer any questions or make any statements, you still have the right to stop answering any time. Do you understand these rights as if I explained them to you, John? Having these rights in mind, do you agree to talk to me? >> Yes, sir. >> But John wasn't caught off guard. He was just as prepared for any questions that the officers threw at him. For the time being, his best option was to find the best way to cover his tracks, even if it meant crafting the best lies possible. >> Tell me about uh your trip to the airport today around 1:00 p.m. >> Um, is it regarding the box uh from the luggage? >> Yeah. >> So, I took a picture of that. I was trying to uh get it to someone. They It ended up not being the right box. Like I opened it, went through [music] it and they were like, "No, none of this is mine." And I was like, "Cool. I will bring it back to the [music] airport. I have to be there at 5:00 in the morning. I would have brought it back to like in the middle of the night." But um like it's uh a long day. I have to wake up really early. There's just a lot going and so it just made sense to bring it in the morning. >> Okay. John, let me ask you this. When you when you check in a bag to baggage claim, right? They give you a tag, right? Say, "Here's your tag. We're checking [music] your bag." >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Do you know what that system's for? >> To be able to verify. >> Yeah. Be able to verify that your bag, right? And what happens if your bag doesn't show up at the place that you're looking for? >> You get it shipped to like they normally take care take care of it for you. >> Yeah. They they the the airlines find your bag, right? >> Yes, sir. >> If you leave your bag there and you get held up at a different place, they hold on to your bag, right? Yes, sir. >> Not a random person doesn't just grab the box and take it to somebody. You see where I'm getting at? >> Absolutely. >> There wasn't no nowhere anywhere for you to grab that box and take it and load it in the back of the truck and then you went so far as to I don't know how how you said it got open, but somebody's belongings are all spread out in the back of that truck. You >> see what I'm saying? >> Yes, sir. >> So, let me ask you this. Uh >> if it's something if they end up getting damaged because of >> Well, let me ask you this. You got your baggage. You got your bags. Okay. I watched you enter TSA. You check a rifle case and a black roller, right? >> Yes, sir. >> So, only two bags of yours. Airlines attendant gives you that those baggage your your stuff at 104. You waited until the very end until everybody was almost out of baggage claim. 24 minutes approximately 24 minutes till nobody else was there. [snorts] Airlines guy comes in and says these belong these bags belong to anybody. You pointed out that box. Airlines guy grabs the bag. >> I had just text um and was waiting. I was like, I think that's the right one. >> And then he ended up leaving. I was like, all right, well, I'll get this um and if it's not the right one, I'll bring it back. But I was very certain that it was the right one. So, it has somebody's name on it, right? >> Yes. >> Yeah. Did you know that person? >> Uh, no, sir. >> Okay. Then why'd you take the box? >> It met the description from yesterday. So, I thought that that was it. I was literally just trying to help. >> Description to who? >> Say again. >> You said it matched the description from yesterday for what? >> Um, my buddy Jeff uh works at the wastewater plant. Um, I thought I'd be able to give it to him. Uh, ultimately I ended up spending the afternoon at the wastewater plant. You can verify. You talk to Hannah. And like I thought he was going to come get it. He didn't. So I opened it tonight. Um, and I was like, "Dude, this is not yours, so I'll just bring it back in the morning." But like I didn't want to like uh keep waiting. Like I was questioning it a little myself. Like I literally took a photo of it, sent it. He's like, "Yeah, that should be it." And I was like, "All right." >> But it didn't have Jeff's name on it. >> It had a female's name on it. >> It had two people's name on it. I thought it was >> At this point, he was clearly unable to keep up his ax. He decided to come up with a [music] more convincing line. But could the officers be full? >> It was Jeff and someone. >> No. No Jeff, man. >> Okay. Um, I apologize. I I do. Do you see where we're at now? >> Yes, sir. >> I watch a video of you sitting in a room after you've already getting your bags. Take a picture of a box. Point at the box as you tell an airlines attendant saying, "Now, I'll take the box." Right. Which is clearly marked, not yours. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. There's a system clearly in place for people with lost baggages. Right. >> Yes, sir. I mean, but it is a real pain in the butt. I've had to do it myself and like you have to be there whenever the uh person from American is there that has the key to the specific room and it like I didn't want someone else to have to go through that. So I was literally just trying to help. I got the wrong one. It was questionable. It was hard to get in touch with Jeff. Ultimately whenever he texted back he said that's should be it but it's not. And >> so did you take it before Jeff told you it was his or after the fact? >> [music] >> you took it because it matched the description and then after the fact he's like that's not mine. >> Yes, sir. >> And I was like, dude, I opened it and like it it's not your stuff. It's like something totally different. >> And all the contents in the back of the truck. >> Um it may have gotten uh it was like a frantic mess whenever it was starting to snow and then it stopped and I was like but like it it's in good condition. Like it's not wet. Let me ask you that question again, John. All the contents that were inside the box, are they still in the back of the truck? >> Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. >> None of those belongings are inside the house at all? >> No, sir. Absolutely not. >> He was proving too slippery, coming [music] up with even more lies. But the evidence against him was just too much for him to lie through. >> You said you sent a text message to who? To see if it was their box. >> Jeff. >> To Jeff. Okay. So, the text message will be in your phone, right? >> Should be. >> Should be. Okay. So when she finds your phone, is it okay if we check and >> Sure. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Just we just want to make sure and see if Jeff's you sent a text message to Jeff at the same time. >> That make sense? >> Yeah. >> I don't know where your phone is. >> And I think it was only the photo. Like I ended up just talking to him later cuz he wasn't responding. >> What's your code boss? I I don't give it out. If you want to put my thumb. >> Sure. >> Oh, one more time. Didn't Didn't take Hold on. Let me help you. >> All right. >> Thank you, sir. >> Oh, there I think it says it doesn't match. Is it the other? >> It'll be the right. >> Yeah, it's not matching. Um, maybe it looks like the My screen doesn't turn out. Try one more time for me. [music] >> Uh, it take that time. >> Nope. Does she know your pattern? >> Yes. >> What? >> Yeah, we're good. >> All right. Bye. >> I mean, like, I work there. Like I know that we have great camera. Say again. >> Where do I go? >> Uh contacts. >> Contacts. >> Yes. >> Uh just search Jeff. >> Sorry, I don't have an Android. There we go. >> All right. It may actually be easier to go to the messages. >> Messages. >> Yeah. You back. Scroll up. Right there. Dad, mom, dad. >> Not seeing a J. >> You see that line right there? >> Yeah, I see the line. >> Okay. So it would be below that >> below this. >> I'm not seeing a Jeff. And we're in December 26th now. >> Okay. Um what? It was probably my work phone. >> Your work phone? >> Is your work phone or >> uh No. >> Where's your work phone at? >> Um I went to the office tonight. Um, and I'm uh probably in the truck. >> In the truck. >> What's your work phone look like? [music] >> Um, same as that one, but without a case. >> Can I go get it? I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. Can I >> I appreciate you. >> Can you give me the truck keys, please? >> It should be open. >> Open? Oh, I would not leave your car open. [laughter] >> Uh, no. Well, like we literally uh we're just getting ready to go. I normally lock it whenever. >> Okay. And like I had to >> where would where would it be in the truck? Like center council center cup holder somewhere on there. >> Um >> it would be in the center cup holder. >> Okay. >> There's no phone in that truck, sir. >> With the law closing in, he had one last card to play. A desperate, pitiful attempt to slip away from the hands of the law. So, at this time, you're being placed under arrest for lararseny of the package. Okay. >> It's been a long day and like literally I'm like trying to bend over backwards to do more at home. Like, it's just like a struggle with our relationship and our daughter. She's five and it's like, [music] you know, I've been stepping up doing like cooking, dishes, stuff like that. And it's like finally started to come around, but it's a lot of extra effort. >> And honestly, if I had the extra effort, I would have put it back together tonight. >> Where are all the items from that box? >> Right next to the box. And I can I can put it back >> like I remember how it was organized and I can put it back like it. >> That's what we're going to do. Okay. We're Okay. He was finally arrested on a fourthderee felony charge of lassarsenying between $500 and $2500. Up next is a Menammoni city council member Chase who thought he could get away with a DUI and even went on to threaten the officer's jobs when he realized he couldn't escape the consequences of his unlawful [music] actions. >> I'm a city council rep. Okay. All right. He's my buddy. Okay. You under arrest for operating a motor vehicle or under the influence? >> Watch out for your job. >> What was that? After midnight on August the 14th, 2022, a Manemony officer made what seemed like a routine traffic stop, just a broken brake light. [music] Little did he know that nothing about that stop would be routine, especially when he would get to find out the identity of the man behind the wheel, an arrogant politician who was power drunk and thought he was too important to [music] get pulled over. As the officer approached the vehicle, the pungent smell of alcohol hung heavy in the air. But that was the least of his worries as his [music] focus was on the man behind the wheel who was identified as Lucas Chase, a Manmone City Council member. >> Call with the Monomony Police Department. I'm just stopping you cuz uh your brake lamp on this side doesn't light up when you step on your brakes. And then your highmounted one is very, very dim. >> Okay. >> So, I'm not sure if you were aware of that at all. >> I wasn't aware of that. >> So, see you got your license there. I'll take that. >> Okay. And then do you have any proof of insurance at all? >> I don't on me. >> Okay. Do you have insurance? >> I do. >> Okay. Do you maybe have like an email from your insurance company or anything like that? >> Potentially. >> Okay. Where you coming from tonight? >> Uh I was coming from work. >> Okay. Where you work at? >> The Mabel Tainer. >> Okay. Didn't know that Mabel Tainer was open this late. It >> is. I work all every day of the week. >> All right. I say cuz it looks like that one's expired cuz it says 7:31 of 02 and it's >> I believe it's the 14th now. Yep. 14th of August. >> All right. I'll look for that. Um how much alcohol have you had tonight? >> I've had two beers. >> Two beers. Yeah. Okay. All righty. And what time do you think that last one was at? >> I don't know. >> 12:00. >> 12:00. All righty. All right. All right. Why don't you keep looking for that insurance and I'll be right back. All right. >> Thank you. >> Oh, that's just the payment date. Okay. All right. Is there anything that shows the like effective date? >> Okay. I know that uh Progressive 2 also has the app. Um >> I don't have that. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> Are you able to download it at all? >> Not right at the moment. >> Drive. Not that I'm able to. I think if you go to the app store instead of settings right above it. There you go. Okay. I'll let you continue with that then. All right. >> Okay. 94 headquarters 94. >> The officer realized who he was dealing with and decided to tread with caution. But Lucas's next line of action left the officer in complete shock, but it wasn't anything that he couldn't handle. >> I added my operator's 27 information. Could you run him and I'll take any prior 55 will be on fields here shortly and I believe 103 will be in route here shortly up to my location >> potentially depends on your I guess I would go that route and just >> okay >> um just yeah um just tell I do I think that's where I just say, "Hey, just I called the mayor and he said, >> he's right here with me." So, >> okay. I just lock the door and cooperate all that you can and say, "Hey, I got insurance, but I just don't have the paperwork." >> Sounds good. >> All right. Thank you, sir. >> Yeah. >> All right. Thanks, Randy. >> Okay. >> Okay. I guess why would you call the mayor at 1:00 in the morning? Well, I'm a city council rep. >> Okay. All right. >> He's my buddy. >> Okay. So, any luck with the insurance center then? I take it >> get it pulled up. That's why I called him. >> Okay. >> I mean, I just don't have the app on my phone. So, >> no, that's understandable. So, well, I know that you said you had two beers and I can smell the alcohol coming out of the car, so I just want to make sure that you're going to be safe to drive. So, would you be willing to do field soriety exercises? >> Sure. >> Perfect. >> Disregarding the privilege card he pulled, the officer decided that it was time to play hard ball. Determined to teach the arrogant politician a lesson or two. But Lucas wasn't the kind of man to back down easily. Lucas was subjected to a field sobriety test which he failed shamefully, giving the officers just what they needed to nip it all in the bud. >> So right now you're double the legal limit. Okay. >> Okay. So I'll have you keep your hands behind your back. You're going to be under arrest for operating a motor vehicle or under the influence. You can just relax. All right. Are those too tight at all? No. >> Okay. I'm going to double lock them so they don't get any tighter. >> All right, we will walk back towards the front of this squad car. >> I'd love to see what you're showing me though on my car. >> What? What do you mean? >> Why you pull me over? I'm not going to do that right now. >> Why not? >> Because we have a process that I have to do. Okay. >> So, I have you stand right here, face the front of my squad car. Do you have anything on you that's going to poke me or stick me? Anything illegal? Anything like that at all? >> I don't think so. >> Okay. I will >> I would like to see that happen. >> Okay. >> My car. >> I'll have you separate separate your feet for me. >> Council meetings, right? I don't go to city council meetings. >> Well, I'm your boss, so that should be interesting. Right, >> sir? I don't think that's an appropriate discussion to have right at this moment. >> Okay. Okay. Should be interesting. ass. My lights don't work, but you want to show me that they don't work. Can't wait to have that conversation with the mayor and the chief. >> Okay, I'll have you walk over to this side. >> Okay, that should be fun. >> Let's have you stand right here for right now. Then careful getting in. >> All right, I'll have you look to the left that way. I'm just going to put your seat belt on. Sir, what would you like to do with the vehicle? You want to lock it up? Bring the keys with you. >> Would you drive it up to my parents house right at the top of the street? That'd be wonderful. >> I can't drive your vehicle. >> I'd like to see the lights not working. Actually, if you wouldn't mind doing that. >> Well, right now you're in custody. So, you're going to stay right where you're at. Okay. >> I didn't say anything about myself. I asked you to do it. >> Okay. I'm asking you what you would like me to do with your vehicle. If you want me to secure it for you, I can do that. >> In the end, Lucas was charged with driving under the influence. Just like the others, 41-year-old Jenkins thought she could get away with a DUI. >> I'm a justice of the peace. I'm an elected official. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> No. No. >> I'm a school teacher, a bus driver, and an elected official. And you arrested me. >> A justice of the peace who never thought the scales would tip against her. But this time, justice wasn't hers to give. It was hers to face. On December the 6th, 2019, after 800 p.m., Arkansas police received a distress call reporting an accident at the intersection of [music] Highway 62 and Butler Road. They arrived swiftly at the accident scene. But while questioning a 16-year-old driver involved, what started as a routine investigation took an unforeseen [music] and dramatic twist. >> Just shook up a little bit. >> Registration. And then my mom has my actual insurance card. There's a temporary I think she's on her way here. He is in the process of getting insurance. He He's like I just last week got his insurance or talked to his insurance. >> Did you drive here or did someone drive you here? >> Do what? >> Did you drive here? >> I drove here. >> How much have you had to drink tonight? >> Not much. >> I got home and my son called me. So >> yeah. Well, what we're going to do since you drove here, we're going to do some test to make sure you're all right to be driving. >> I'm fine. I'm a justice of the peace. I'm an elected official. Please. Well, either follow >> What was I supposed to do? >> Step on that line and face me. >> Face you? >> Yeah, face me. >> Face you? >> Yeah, face me. Face face my direction. >> The situation soon took a dramatic [music] turn, leaving her in a whirlwind of confusion. Was this about her or her son? >> Like I said, he elected officials told me >> he told me because he was an emergency situ. I was here for my son. It was an accident, not for this. This is the only reason why I got OUT OF MY CAR. DUDE, DUDE, take me home. >> Let them take me home. >> At this point, she became frantic and began pulling every trick she knew in the book, desperately trying to save herself from what she [music] saw coming. >> Let them take me home. I am a justice of the peace from Washington County Corum Court. And I know Sheriff Helder. He is a friend of mine. >> I know him, too. Sheriff Hower is a friend of mine. Call him. >> I didn't ask you to have your mom be on the way. It's not her fault. >> It's not my fault. I'm here for my son. Did >> the test yesterday. >> You're being a jerk. >> No, I'm not. >> You are. YOU'RE BEING A JERK. >> WHY are you being that way? >> Why? How old are you? >> I'm 24. >> You're 24. I'm 41. >> Okay. >> Do you have kids? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, understand the fact that when your child calls you and they've been in an accident, you're going to be there no matter what. >> Not if I've been drinking. No, >> that's not true. I'm going to talk to Judge Wood. What is your name? >> Officer Pedes. >> Officer Pedes. >> Step back with you. >> I am a test of the court. I don't care who you are. Stop. >> With just enough evidence, she was cuffed. But that wasn't the last of her. She was only just getting started. >> I refuse. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> No. Put your hands BEHIND YOUR BACK. NO. NO. NO, NO, NO. >> I'm a third grade teacher. I have to go to professional development tomorrow morning. >> Stop. >> Record this. >> It's being recorded. I like that. >> But we can we drive her home. >> No, she's going to jail. You're over here accusing me of something of saying something that I never said. >> Cops lie. We all >> go ahead. Go. Go ahead. Go ahead. >> Thank you for being understanding. Cops lie all the time. Go ahead. >> Have a good evening. Have a good evening. Go. I I appreciate your help. I appreciate >> No, cuz that you can you can go, sir, or you're going to be arrested for obstruction. >> Yes, my investigation route. >> Good luck to you. Okay. >> Good luck to you. And good luck to you. >> Have a good evening. Cops fly all the time, sir. >> Well, he watches YouTube videos all the time. He's older. I don't >> know what happens to your car. >> It's going to get towed. >> Toad? Take it? >> No. >> Especially when I have someone like that being extremely disrespectful. You need to get off my scene or I'm going to take you to jail, too. Oh, sorry. >> For obstructing. You're on my scene right now. You You can't even You're not even supposed to be on the highway. Get in your car and go. >> What about this car? >> It's going to get towed. >> It's okay. Can I get my wife? >> No. No, cuz I lie. >> Now cuffed and with no way out, her fate was sealed. But if they thought she'd go down without a fight, they [music] were in for a surprise. >> I know, but I was at my home. I was fine until I knew my son was in trouble. You had been drinking and you >> I had a few glasses of wine. That doesn't mean that when my son calls and says he's been in an accident that I'm not going to go. >> You got to find a ride. You can't drive. >> What are you TALKING ABOUT, DUDE? >> YOU'RE NOT GOING TO MAKE this so public. You're going to be so This is so [ __ ] >> I I I think the public's going to like the way that you're talking to me. The way you're cussing. That's That's what WE WANT. >> I LOVE IT. I'M NOT. >> DO YOU KNOW THAT? THEN WHY ARE YOU ARRESTING ME? Let me go home with my freaking family that was here. What did someone do in that case? What did the parent do? I own Publix. I recognize the guy that tried to arrestly uttered. >> Things would have been much easier if he had complied with the cops, but from the look of things, he appeared like the kind of guy whose sense of logic was inferior to his arrogance. At the moment, there was a chance he would probably [music] find a way to salvage the situation or mitigate the consequences of his actions. But his fragile ego still would not allow it. You are going to tell me what your ID is or we're going to have additional charges for resisting and failure ID. All right. Are you going to give me your ID, sir? I'll do everything for the rest of my life to make sure you lose every single thing you have. You have my worth. You have my worth on that. >> In the end, he was [music] charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, and possession of stolen property. Next is a case of a multi-millionaire ex-convict who thought he could easily get away with expired tags. [music] >> Your tag expired from 2020. >> Then you're receiving a citation for your tag being expired by 2 years. On the 13th of January 2022, an officer [music] of the Sarasota Police Department traffic unit pulled over a blue Maserati for a routine stop and check. He quickly identified the man behind the wheel, a Bitcoin multi-millionaire ex-convict before detailing the reason for [music] the stop, but his unbothered attitude said it all. He cared the least about what it was the officer had to say, thinking he could get away with the snap of his fingers. >> Hi, sir. I'm Officer Kennedy, Sarasota Police Department traffic. Just so you know, our conversation is being recorded. The reason that you're being stopped today is the use of a cell phone and it wasn't hands-free in the construction zone. Okay? Especially where you were because you're doing this crossover and the road's all wonky and everything. If you're distracted by using the cell phone, then you can get yourself hurt. >> Yeah, you're right. >> And you got people in your life that care about you and they don't want you to be hurt. I promise you that. >> Okay. Okay. So, whatever it is, and you got a beautiful car, you're right. >> This thing is Bluetooth. I know it is. >> So, use it so you don't get yourself hurt. >> I couldn't have waited 2 seconds to my office down the road to text some stupid, you know. >> And we are we are 100% in school zones and in construction zones that we're out here to enforce that, okay? Because we don't want the workers to get hurt. We don't want you to get hurt. So, and when you're coming up through here, if a solid white line, you can't cross over. I know that you saw the big truck in front of him. You don't want to get stuck behind all that, >> but you got to stay in your lane. That's what that white line's for, to make sure that you stay in your lane. >> All right. Do you have insurance on the vehicle? >> Yeah, of course. >> Can I see your uh insurance? >> Can I pull up my phone? I have a >> Sure. Sure. You still live at the uh drive? >> Yes. >> All right. Two of 22. Okay. And the Maserati. All right. Give me just a minute. I'll be right back with you. Okay. >> He actually thought his response was going to get him a pat on the back, but the cop wasn't just about to let him go. At least not without making him face the legal consequences of what he had done. >> Why is your tag expired from 2020? >> I haven't gotten it renewed. We uh we don't I just don't drive the car as much and I should get it renewed. >> Okay. Well, it's two years. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Sit tight. Thank you. >> There's your license back. So, what's happening today is you're receiving a citation for prohibited use of wireless communication device handheld in a work zone. First offense. Okay. Then you're receiving a citation for your tag being expired by 2 years. And then I'm just giving you a warning on the improper lane change through the construction zone there. Just if there's a solid line, don't cross over. Okay. with the um moving violation, the cell phone, you have 30 days. You can either prepay, you can request a court date if you want to contest this or you can do the online driver safety course that keeps any points from going against your license. On the uh tag, obviously, you got to get it taken care of and you have the option of either prepaying or requesting a court date. Okay. >> Green sheet is the clerk's office payment sheet. It has their web address right here that you can make payment at. Plus, all the options I've described to you are there. >> Okay? >> You have any questions for me? Just remember that you're important, that everyone else around you is important, and you don't want to get yourself or anybody else hurt. Okay? >> I know my complacency is the worst part. >> Well, I appreciate your cooperation, understanding. I hope that you live a long life and take care of yourself. >> You too, officer. Have a great day. >> Thank you. >> Eventually, the hand of the law caught up with him, though lightly this time. He received a citation on two counts. one for the prohibited use of a handheld wireless device and another for an expired tag. The message was clear. Next time the consequences might be worse. Next is a case of a high-powered university vice chancellor [music] who slammed into a police cruiser and thought her authority could get her off the hook, but the officers weren't having any of it, ready to put her in her place. >> If I miss my airplane, you folks are in trouble. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. Who are you? >> I'm the chancellor. Um, okay. I I don't know. >> I'd love to see them do this to President B. >> On the 24th of June, 2019, campus police stopped a vehicle as part of a minor car accident. The passenger inside the car was none other than the chancellor. What happened next was an intense situation. >> Headquarters or you want to >> Excuse me. >> Hello. How are you? >> I'm not well. I'm being held from going to the airport. Okay, you folks. >> I'm sorry. Who are you? >> I'm the chancellor. >> Okay. She's not allowed to leave right now cuz she was in the vehicle when this occurred. >> I actually was not. I was standing right here. >> Okay. >> Who's the she was on their way? my sergeant and my lieutenant. >> They're not going to be here. >> They're going to be here. They're on their way. They're driving. >> Sergeant Lefand and who is LT? Lieutenant uh Jack um Jordan. >> I just have to make notifications what I'm doing. >> Well, you could do that. Take a picture and let her go. She She's on a university business. Would you do the president of the United States? >> No. No, you wouldn't. No, you wouldn't. >> We have to do what we have to do. We have to do our job just like you have to do your job. >> No, you have to be thoughtful about doing your job. >> Not just, you know, following road. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> I I'm just going to tell you one thing. I 100% agree with my partner here. So, we're just going to stand by for the supervisors and >> just got to do what we have to do. That's all you. >> By this point, she was only digging a deeper hole for herself when she questioned the cops for doing their jobs. It's okay for you to do this under other circumstances, but now it's not. So, you have to That's the thing about listen to get to the airport for a flight. Copy that. >> Receive. We're getting the information. >> I'd love to see them do this to President. >> Oh, no. They wouldn't. >> Can I just have your driver's license? What did he just say? >> I just need your license and driver um and the registration for the vehicle. >> The license of the driver and you can let them go and we'll do a report. If we need anything, we can always call back. Okay. >> The most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. >> Well, just call her. She won't tell us what he said. Do you have your driver's license with you? >> What did he tell you? >> I wasn't driving. >> She wasn't in the car. >> Okay. >> Um, you have you have to She won't give me her passenger information. Can you just take a copy of this? >> Mhm. >> They're not going to let me do the report. >> Okay. >> Cuz I was sitting in the vehicle. Um, do you want mine? We're gathering the information. >> Information. >> I'll do yours later. >> All right. >> Can we let the other vehicle go right now? >> I'm taking the picture now and then they're going to be on their way. >> I'm going to get written out. You and you. >> I don't care. He said he fully supports his partner. So follow You're going to have to have the first time. What should I do? >> Get the information and that's all. >> When you have somebody like this, you call and you say, "What should we do? Should we follow normal protocol or should we do something else?" That's what you should have done. >> Thank you. >> Have a good night. >> See you later.
