Asked him what his 4019 was. He said the vehicle had no lights. I said, "Cool. Downgrade and just follow from a safe distance. Call out what you got. If you lose them, you lose them." Guess Ferguson, Cisneros, and Ze were calling out loc. And all I hear is right as I'm pulling up on scene that Ferguson's down with the wind. I've got state police. I got state police and so there right now. And apparently, I don't know if they shot this guy, but I heard um from some of the guys that shot fired. >> Um I know they have one in custody. The aftermath weighed heavily on the department. The loss was felt across every officer on scene. >> Sorry. Far didn't know happened to him. I hope he's okay, man. I hope he's going to be all right. I feel like I feel like I failed him because he's my district partner. I should have been there. Let me tell you a secret. So, I've been doing this I've been doing this job a long time, right? >> Yeah. >> This has happened before. I've seen this happen before. >> And this is something you'll never forget, but it'll make you stronger. This right here is what bonds us as brothers. You know that. >> I don't know if you're a religious man, but all we can do right now is pray. Try to relax. >> I'm just trying to take my mind. I'm trying to Facebook. Trying to take my mind off this right now. >> Yeah. >> He was doing that breathing. >> Yeah. I'm never going to forget hearing that. I've heard it before, but not like that. I honestly feel like I let people down though cuz I wasn't here quick enough. Listen, >> Cisneros and I were right there. Okay. >> You got here like what 30 seconds later. You're fine. >> Yeah. >> All right. It was you, Cisneros, Ferguson. That was I love you guys. I haven't known you long, but I love you guys. >> I'll sap you on me, man. Come here. Give me a hug. >> No, I'm serious, bro. >> One team, one fight. You know, we may not be the same color, bro, but we're we're brothers, you know. I need a hug, bro. What's up, bro? >> I'm struggling right now, bro. What's up? Nice to meet you. >> I'm struggling, bro. >> I know. I was I was getting out of my car. We were standing over Ferguson like, "Hey, dude, get up. Hey, Ferguson, you okay?" Like like not recognizing that he was hit and hurt. I'm sorry, James. If if you need a minute, we can we can take a break and >> it's okay. I'll just see his face again. >> Yeah. >> As I'm told story, as I approach, there's Ferguson. His face is turned slightly to the right where I can see it. It's just covered in blood. see the blood pulling out from from his head. One of his arms is kind of underneath him just like I'm in shock at that point. Like this is my guy. >> Yeah. >> So I had like all these mixed emotions. Fact that these guys are just standing there not helping them and they're they're they're trying to find the bad guy. I get it. But Um, so we roll him over to see what's up and see his taser there, underneath him. It's not in his hand anymore. It's just kind of laying underneath his his body. And uh, I can hear him. It sounds like he's grasp gasping for air. I was in shock even though I know how to renderate. >> I trained Ferguson. I was his primary FTO. >> I've been with him for many years. you. No, it's your son. >> And I just I know I I was even flabbergasted at myself. The fact that I couldn't I couldn't even get his keepers off. I couldn't get the buttons undone in his shirt. >> You were there. You were there for him. Okay. >> Further investigation revealed that Dominic had obtained a sort off 31-year-old Jonah Apaka. DNA evidence confirmed the link. Apadaka was federally charged and sentenced to 6 years in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. In the end, Dominic Dela O was convicted of first-degree tampering with evidence, aggravated fleeing, and criminal trespass. He received life without parole along with additional sentences totaling over a decade for related and federal firearm violations. As seen in Officer Ferguson's case, routine calls can change without warning. And here, officers were caught off guard when a traffic stop quickly turned into a manhunt. >> PLEASE STOP. LET ME MOVE OUT OF my 34s down. I've been hit. >> Suspect fled. >> On the 8th of February, 2024, an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle swerving across the road. As she approached, officer Edgars spoke with the driver in what appeared to be a normal, even friendly exchange. At first, it looked routine, but the situation soon took a different turn. >> All right, my friend. Now that we're out of the way there. >> I'm sorry. >> That's all right. My name's Shelby. I work for the L County Sheriff's Office. I stopped you not cuz you were all over the road. >> I'm sorry. Well, you you went across the line just a little bit and I thought, well, you know, maybe >> I would just put my hair up. I'm sorry. I got high. I just put my hair up. I just want to go home any other lane. >> I call my mama and say, "Mama, I'm not going to make it tonight. I just I got to go get clothes. Like, I'm just dealing with a lot. I I promise I didn't do nothing. I'm sorry." >> Okay. I'm sorry about that. I'm sorry you're going through some stuff. >> Oh, it's a lot going on. Yeah. But I literally just got the phone with my son. Just talked to the guy that's painting. >> Uhhuh. >> Uh sent me a picture of uh some lights that he sent me. >> Okay. >> Then I'm literally just got I literally just got the phone with him. >> Okay, good deal. >> When I paint mama's house, he just sent me this and I called him back. But >> but I'm on Bluetooth. >> Okay, you're good. Do you have your registration insurance? >> Yeah, I'm in my mama's car. Uh, I'm in her car. My truck is at her house. I just got to be here. >> Okay. >> Sensing something was off, Officer Edgars notified her partner, suspecting the driver might be under the influence. That suspicion was going to mark the beginning of a much larger problem. >> Hey. Uh, so car smells like uh and he was in the opposite lane >> on Seville Road. Pretty sure I got a DUI, but I think it's I don't think it's alcohol. >> Okie dokie. How far are you? >> 4951. I'm right here past I'm right here next to Destiny Lane. >> Destiny. Much like Officer Edgar's encounter, this stop began as routine, but then quickly escalated. Officer Joseph Buren was dragged as the suspect fled. On the 15th of June 2021, officers pulled over a speeding vehicle unaware that the driver posed a serious threat. The suspect, later identified as Anc Dolce, was out on parole in New York for robbery and attempted robbery and also had an open domestic case involving his then wife in Illinois >> 760 roadbangle papa 64 B4 Street 2317 7:15 get code. Described as a mixed martial arts fighter with a criminal record, court documents also linked him to a notorious gang. Following the encounter that claimed Officer Joseph Buren, officer Jonah Hernandez responded to what appeared to be a standard trespassing call, never knowing that it would cost him his life. >> You're the one who called. >> I didn't call. >> Huh? >> I like three or four times. He stabbed in the neck. He's got a really bad right in the neck. Right where my hand is. >> Officer down. Officer down. >> Where we at? >> Stay awake. Stay with us, man. What began as a standard response quickly escalated into a physical struggle. >> How's it going, boss? >> You've been staying here for a while. >> What's up? >> Is this your place? Officer Jamal Mitchell faced a call that seemed ordinary but ended in loss. >> Squad 512. Look, we have at least two victims outside at the location bleeding. Where? Where you guys? Come here. >> Get up. Get up. Get up. Get up. We need handcuffs on him. >> On the 30th of May, 2024, officers responded to a call involving a double incident with weapons. Officer Mitchell arrived first on the scene. He approached a man crouched behind a vehicle, appearing injured. A setup that would turn out to be misleading. >> SP 512. He received treatment and was later booked into jail on one count of first-degree murder, aggravated to law enforcement, two counts of disorderly conduct with a weapon, and held on a $2 million cashonly bond. In the end, officer Gabrielle Facio spent 6 days in the hospital. On the 8th of June 2025, he succumbed to his injuries. In the aftermath of Officer Gabrielle Fio's call, officers arrived for a welfare check only to confront Tael Woodson, a suspect who nearly stabed them. Taser, taser, taser, taser, taser. On February the 17th, 2024 in Suffach County, New York, county police officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on Udall Road in Beayshore. On arrival, the officers walked straight into harm's way, encountering 33-year-old Taquel Woodson. The attack on the officer came out of nowhere. Sudden, violent, and without warning. The other officers had only seconds to react, knowing that any hesitation could mean losing one of their own right in front of them. >> Taser, taser, taser. >> Shots fired. Shots fired. >> 303 shots fired. >> Stand rescue. Stand right. >> Stand right. Stand right. >> Woodson was transported to a nearby hospital where it was determined that he had passed on. The injured officer was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries to his hands, arms, and face. Thankfully, the injuries were not life-threatening and he made a complete recovery. Following the confrontation with Taikel Woodson, Deputy David Five faced his own life-threatening situation when a routine investigation exposed him to a hazardous substance. >> That stuff's no joke. Super dangerous. >> Hey dude, wake up. Hey buddy. 911. >> Yes. Code cover. Breathe. Freeze. Freeze. >> On the 3rd of July 2021, officers were dispatched to investigate a trespassing call at a mortuary. Initially, the investigation seemed routine. The search took an unexpected turn when Deputy David Fe, a trainee, found a key piece of evidence that changed the course of the investigation, but had no idea that his life would be on the line shortly from the same thing that defined his hero moment. >> That stuff's no joke, dude.
