This woman's drunk driving decision turned into a nightmare for others, leading to a life-threatening crash in one of the most terrifying ways. Do you have anything on you? I'm going to put your phone back here. I'm going to take it with us to the to the jail. I will be I know. Okay. Okay. So, what we're going to do is because you were involved in a crash, I am going to take have to take you to Flagler Hospital for medical clearance. Okay. On January 7th, 2024, police responded to a report about a woman who hit two women while driving drunk in St. John's County. Deputies arrived and began interacting with witnesses who described the chaotic scene following the crash. Who was drunk? Female screaming. where she hit. She ran over these two girls coming straight southbound. Ran over the two girls all the way through. I witnessed it. Okay. All right. Um I was sitting in my car waiting for my two friends. I'm the designated driver tonight. And I remember just seeing that car over there. I'm probably a drunk driver hit that girl in the pink shirt. I only saw her body fly. I did not see the second girl get hit. You only saw one. And then I just remember him just like driving straight. Okay. And then he crashed. All right. Oh my god. That could have been our friend. I know. Let me figure out y'all just free. Y'all stay right here. Do not go anywhere. Yes, sir. No. No. No. No. Hey y'all. If y'all will y'all walk over here for me. I just don't want you near that cell phone. I appreciate it. Yeah. But if y'all won't go anywhere just yet. Yeah. Okay. We appreciate it. Yeah. That's the one I grabbed right when I happened. She's That's That's her like girlfriend right there. She freaking out. Okay. Make sure she don't get away. So, we always be on her. Okay. Were they walking through the front yard? They were. Yeah. They were coming up through here and I mean that car flying around and just blasted right through here. So she's she's with that one. Okay. So if somebody means to be like Yeah. harm on her, make sure she don't leave cuz she was free. Uhhuh. Are you the mother to one of these females out here? Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So pretty much um she was struck by a vehicle. Um right now fire rescue has tended to her. Um I I don't know what the outcome is just yet. We got a lot of people here. We're trying to figure it all out. The cops further spoke with several witnesses who shared their accounts estimating the car's speed and detailing the horrific impact of the crash. Did you get hit? No, I pushed one of my friends out of the way. Okay. But do you need safe fire rescue? Okay. Not going to get y'all with that. We witnessed it. Y'all witnessed it as well. Just like just walking. I was literally coming from that way. I'm running around in the front of their car. Yeah. I was coming this way and I saw the car jump curb, hit them, jump that curb, and then land over there like this. Oh my god. How about not come back to my car? We were basically talking amongst ourselves getting back to our hotel and heard screeching of tires and looked over this car looked like it had jumped one of these curbs over here and they were right on this corner. Yeah. And car just came from down this street and veered left straight into that corner right there and jumped it. They were crossing jumped it crossing right here and we saw two bodies go over the cart. That's when we jumped the fence to get over to it. About how fast were they like to at least [Music] 40. I was going to say at least 15. What did you see? Yes. Um so we were walking out of the edge of that fence right there. Okay. Um to our car across over here. So to about that palm tree over the farthest palm tree and the car came swinging in from the outside here. It came from the south going this way towards north. I didn't see if it came from the south or from this way. All I know is that it came really fast. Um I would say at least 50 mph. Okay. Um and ran over both like hit both of them. They flew and rolled over the windshield. Okay. um and almost hit both me and um Paige over there. Um and then they kept kept going at that speed about until like around here. Okay. Yeah. And then I checked both of the pulses as soon as they were hit. Um they both had pulses. They both were breathing. Okay. Um but I saw Riley, the one over here, did have blood coming from her head. Um, and that's when the, you know, police were on the scene and I let them handle everything, but luckily they were here at the I'm not really sure. They were coming from that way. They were coming this way. Okay. And then they came through the parking lot, struck their teams. Yes. I'm going to struck y'all. Yes. They almost hit all of us. Okay. And they came to arrest over there where it's at. Yeah. Okay. So, we were just sitting in the car talking. Um, we saw these girls at one of the bars. I was like, "Oh, that's the girl from the bar. She's carrying a plant." And then like a minute later, we're just talking about everything. And then we hear a loud noise and I look behind me and I just sees the body like fly across like it literally the pink girl, the girl in the pink shirt right there. She just flew across the whole parking lot basically and then the car just crashed all the way over there. That's all we saw. Okay. So, you saw the car hit the body or just the body fly. I I I heard the body and the car impact and then I I just saw her flying. I didn't see another body. I know there's another girl that got hit as well. She's all the way over there, but we It was the one that cracked the silver one. The one that crashed all the way over there. Okay. Yeah. And you saw that silver car hit the body or hit the person? I I didn't see I heard the impact. I heard it and I looked behind me and I just saw her flying. Afterward, the cops engaged with King who appeared unfazed as deputies administered some tests. They then informed her of the seriousness of the crash. Okay, Shannon. Okay, so here's the deal. Okay. Do you know what the legal limit is in the state of Florida? 0.08. Okay, so legal limit is 08. Okay, your first breath sample you blew a.160. your second breath sample. You blew 162. Nearly double the legal limit. Double the legal limit. Okay. You have any questions for me? I'm sure you have Well, so you're still going to be used against me. You're still being arrested for DUI regardless. Okay. Okay. I just turned 21 minutes ago, so I know nothing about right now. So, I will tell you I'm just peeing and they say stuff's hurt and I got to pee and it's late and my mom was probably scared. I'm scared. So, I will tell you. Okay. Well, if need be to you're a young girl, I'll make your mom feel better. I'll give her a call from my phone here in a couple minutes. Okay. Um, I'm going to explain something to you. The two pedestrians. Okay. We're not sure of their condition right now, but it is serious. Okay. and I asked you asked me their condition. Okay, I'm not going to lie to you and I'm not going to hide stuff from you. Okay, I'm sure you're concerned. So that's why I'm telling you their condition is serious. Okay, at this point I don't know their current condition other than serious and very critical. Okay. All right. I didn't want to keep that from you. That's why I wanted to tell you. Okay. And you don't know about my friend? So your friend I last saw in the back of a police car? I don't know if they took him home or what. Your other friend obviously left. I know he did, but the other one acts a fool. So, I don't know. I can find out for you though. Okay. Do you have anything on you? I'm going to put your phone back here. I'm going to take it with us to the to the jail. I will be I know. Okay. So, what we're going to do is because you were involved in a crash, I am going to take have to take you to Flagler Hospital for medical clearance. Okay. Even if you're not injured, I still have to take you there. Okay. That's fine. And I'll get you there. Can you hold it for about 15 minutes? I'll try. Okay. All right. This is a national landmark. I can't take you up. Let a female take you up there and let you go up there. Okay. Nope. I don't have a hand. I'm not allowed to have my date if I take it. No, definitely not right now. Okay. Yeah, you're good. Do we have a female coming? Am I riding with you or someone else? You're going to ride with me. Eventually, a friend of Kings was placed in handcuffs that night, accused of refusing to obey deputies commands. How how respectful have I been with you the whole night? Every time I asked to get up to move, I made sure they worked with you. There is a big investigation going on. We were trying to figure this out and you were running your mouth. Shut up. Stop talking. I'm in cops. What else got talking? What else do you have to say while I'm in cops? You want to go to jail? Yeah. What else do you have to say while I'm in cops? That was that was the question. hard because of what you did. Where's your body cam? Get up. Get up. Get up. Get up. Get up. Get up. Come on. Get up. Get up. Hey. Hey. Hey, sir. Sir. Can I stand up? That's all. She's got white. Ma'am, this is a private business. They have the right to conserve it. It has nothing to do with color. There's a whole bunch of with her drink. That's Afterward, the woman didn't change her mind and stuck to her story, using offensive language and demanding from the officers. I want you to go home, too. Because you're prejudice. I want you to go home because you're not doing your job. Okay. Well, no. I I need her to get into a girl. I'm not letting her walk away from a I don't have to. I'm 44 years old. So, until you calm down, you're going to have a seat in my squad car. Don't touch me. Okay. I have come. Don't touch me. Leave my phone. Let go. Leave my phone. I'm going to put it in your pocket. If my hand is okay, I'm going to put it in your pocket. It's not okay in your hand cuz I don't want you to sit on it. There. It's going in your pocket. You're coming. You're going to come sit by myself. I can go by myself. I can go by myself. Can you I'm going to walk. Can you walk this way? You are a piece of you know that. Okay. Where is the supervisor? Can you call for the supervisor? To determine that. Sit. Can you call for Get your foot in. I'm going to put the foot, but don't toss me. Put your foot in. Stop talking. The cops then spoke with the tenant who recounted the events and revealed the man's indecent conduct to them. What is going on? Do you have an ID? I do. I can go. Wonderful. Why don't we start with that? Could you grab that for me, please? Oh, that's my cool. We'll have him hang out over here in the car. just till we get stuff figured out. Can you just park right here and hang out in the car? Thank you. Yeah, buddy. It's your truck. Yes. Okay. Calm down, guys. No, I know. What? What the heck is going on? Hey, they don't want to pay the rent. So that's that's what the problem. Sure. And I'm just trying to figure out why she called us. So that's why we're here. And obviously he's upset. So I just wanted to figure out what's going on. Yeah. Perfect. Okay. Connie. Yes. What is going on? So his dad lives here. Who's Who's that? Um my fiance's father. Okay. He lives here. Is he who else lives here? Um bunch of people. Okay. It's a like he he rents uh rooms and garages to with no air and water to uh some Mexican people there that have a baby. But anyhow, Mottz um Officer Mottz was here the last week. Okay. And um so he said that he told us we um if we if we wanted to be here, we allowed to because we're his dad's company. And so um that's what the with the the landlord had said. Yeah. the landlord was giving him a heart problem too that day. Oh, the tenant had said you guys could be here. The officer said officer MZ was like, you know, you guys are here. You're his company. You're allowed to be here. So, I said, "Okay." Well, today we were going to get help from St. Vincent Paul to pay the rent because he wants him evicted. So, we're going to get that paperwork together to get it over there. But, I was sleeping in there. And um and he walks in I no knock on the door, no nothing. He just opens his father's establishment where he's living and just walks in the room and starts knocking on the the refrigerator while I'm there. Hey, you got to get out of here. I said, "Excuse me, sir. That is illegal. You're not supposed Not to mention, he turned off the um powered off the the room y'all last night. Had no lights, no no uh refrigerator. All his stuff went bad. All his food that he had, we have to throw it out yesterday because he powered off the the fridge and the and the power and no hot water." So today we were just going to get every try to get everything situated, but I didn't get enough sleep cuz I was working. So my boyfriend said they'll just stay here sleeping until my dad gets out of work. We'll get him and we'll get everything going. Okay. And so this guy just walks in the room while I was in there and says to me, well go ahead, call the cops. I says, I am going to call the cops cuz you're not supposed to just walk in the house and then walk in. You were sleeping while I was sleeping. I have it on video. Okay. I I was just curious if landlords if they knock and say, "Hey, landlord." And they come in. So, I guess I was just curious if that occurred at all. Um I I know it would be tough to know if it did happen if you were sleeping. So, that's why I asked. I know maybe you don't know that. I'll probably talk to him and probably talk to him, but I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Um so, he's the land the guy that's in the back of the car is the landlord, I believe. So, he is because he's the owner of the house. Okay. The tenant further explained the man's unreasonable rent demands to the officers. Shortly after they spoke with the man's son about the issue served with any eviction paperwork. My dad was served an eviction letter. Okay. When when was that? Um two days ago. Okay. And when when did it say you guys were evicted by? It doesn't say. It says we have 5 days to um vacate. Detest it. Oh. To contest it and whatnot. Yeah. There you go. Contest it. So that's what we're going to do. We're going to go down to St. Vincent see if they could help pay pay um cuz he's asking an absurd amount of $3,600 for one room. So there's something going on because every tenant in here has to pay $3,600. So it's just so we were going to contest it and see what we can do as far as how much to come up with or how much. So you had 5 days to contest it. There was no vacate the premises by this day or time. No. Okay. Um and did he say what he was here for today? He wanted me out. you specifically? Yeah. Okay. Um All right. So, the paper the eviction paperwork, do you guys have that here? Uh he has it I believe in the car with him. Okay. I'll chat with him then. He lives here, too. Or staying. You guys are staying here with the dad. With the dad some days. Yes. Okay. All right. Hey, how's it how's it going, sir? Hold on. Hold on. Okay. Do you have the eviction paperwork? I want to see if he is leg, bro. Because I got I got I'm working. I got money. I I want I want to get my place. That's for my father place. You know this one here? Yeah. So So I I want to I want to see my papa safety and he don't know because I want to get out of here to my papa right now. So these guys are asking hang a lot, man. Too much too. Too much. He's working right now. He's in the phone. So when were you guys served this? He put it in the I get this paper from the door yesterday. So it was posted on the door. Yeah. My father living here like a like a three four week only. You know it's only one month maybe. No more that. Okay. I'll be right back. I'm just going to hang out of this. To clarify the situation. The cops engaged with the tenant again, who explained the previous confrontations, adding context to the landlord's actions. Hold on. Did he call you guys at all and say that he was coming? Not at all. 38. Go ahead. Yeah. CBY. Okay. So, he he didn't call you guys within the last couple days to say he was coming or anything like that? Nothing. He comes here every day. He was here yesterday at 9:00 knocking on the door. I was in there. I'm afraid, you know, he had two other men with him. This guy and some other big dude. And he was screaming through the door obscenity. He's like, "You better get the f out or you're gonna learn today." And then that's when the lights turned off and then the hot water and everything else. Okay. But his dad, he's such a like doesn't want no problem type of guy. We're like, "Look, we can call the cops and have this reported cuz he's not supposed to shut off your natural, you like natural resources." And he says, "No, piece of air, too." Oh, good. Um, special. Yeah. Okay. So, this looks like on the 26th this was posted. It is a 5-day thing. Is due to dated June 21st. Okay. Um, so as far as you know, you weren't told that he was coming today and trying to come inside at all. So, there was no notice of landlord coming. Not to your knowledge, he didn't knock and announce his presence. Okay. Um, I just got chat with him to see if that any of that occurred. Okay. Um, I'm going to give this back to him. Um, do you have anything else you'd like to add at this point or anything else we should know? So, yesterday he was here banging on the door, yelling at 9:00 and then he didn't he didn't come in then? No, he was knocking. He wanted someone to open. Let me ask this. So, he came here wanting to talk to somebody yesterday at 9:00. Did you speak to him through the door? No. I Did he say he was going to come back tomorrow? No. Cuz if EKB said that and he comes back 24 hours later? No. I have it on video as well, but it was only But he never said he wanted to come in. He just wanted to talk to you. Yeah. He never said he wanted to come in. He said, "Um, my boyfriend was here, too." He says, "Um, what do you guys Whose red car is that?" Which is his dad's car right there. And no one answered. And then he just said, "Okay, I see. I see what's going on. Um, you guys are going to learn today." And then that's when the lights and then the water. And that was that was yesterday. That was yesterday at 9:00 p.m. or at 8:50. Okay. And then 9:00 p.m. yesterday. Okay. And then and then so this morning he came started mowing. Uhhuh. And just Did you know he was here? No, I was sleeping and he just walked in the room and so all of a sudden I'm up and he's like, "Hey, you you don't belong here. You got to get out." And I'm like and I'm like, "Um, okay, but you know that's illegal." And then I started recording and he says, "I don't care. You got to get out." I said, "You're not supposed to come in the room without letting us know." And then he says, "Go call the cops. Go whatever you want to do." Okay. Back with you. The deputy continued gathering information to resolve the case and interacted with another resident for further insight for you. When uh when he was here, he was here yesterday morning. You see every day I'm parking in the street. You see the mark in my car because he did not let me go inside. So I'm not leaving here. That's my father. My father is old when he driving truck. He clean record 20 years old. This guy tried to make him dirty to my papa. Sure. My papa LG he when he when Let me just ask a question. The landlord was here yesterday. Were you here when he was here? Yeah, I'm inside. I got video inside scaring because that's outside. Hey, this is not hotel. What did he say about when he was here yesterday? Did he say he was coming back today? He know he's coming by. He said he don't want me here. I mean say I don't want you to be around too. Do you understand me? You still not wish to speak with me or provide your name? Sounds good. Were you here with him yesterday? Yes. Okay. What time was that at? You think? What time we here yesterday? Like we start to paint the back probably 11 at like 11:00 a.m. Yeah. Yeah. Probably 10 11. Okay. Later morning. Yes. Okay. Um what do you remember? What do you remember happening today? Okay. The reason that he mad is because it's one room for only his dad. So three people in one room and he don't want to pay the rent for I think two months. No deposit, no rent, he don't pay water, no pay light. So he's not paying light, water, anything. So it's he's renting a room to the dad for one person. Yeah. Here they haven't paid rent in 2 months, electric or water. I think it's two months. Okay. Because we start to work in this house last month. Okay. And so what happened today? We come in. He come in first to cut the grass and then when I come in, I go to Home Depot. So they fight inside. They were inside already because Okay. Because um he said he knocked the door and nobody answer every day. Nobody answered. Him, the girl, his dad, nothing. Uh I think the the the courthouse send the paper. They take it all and then throw away and then they pick it up and go to the room. So I know that guy for like seven years. He's a good guy guy because two people inside is homeless. So he help a lot of people. Yeah. The reason that he look with you is because he's tired for that people. Yeah. No pay nothing. Mhm. So but he's good guy. I swear. Okay. So inside is two homeless people. So when you got here he was already inside yelling and screaming in the grass. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. But then he go inside again and he knocked the door and she start to fight. He say and I tell him what happened man it's another girl I don't know I don't know who's that girl this the first time I see that girl okay all righty yeah but but yesterday you guys were here at about 10 or 11 you think late morning I don't know remember but knocking and nobody answered working the bike and he answered and he knocked the door man nobody's answer yesterday we disconnect the water and the light in his room and you realize you also can't do that huh you also can't do that yeah you can't disconnect electric and water from a a tenants's residence. But all right. Yeah, but it's only in the room. So, yeah. Yeah, but you still can't do that. All right. The police requested a sworn statement from the renter and after obtaining it, they took her into custody upon discovering she had a previous record. We have just one other slight issue, Connie. Um, there is an open case on you for your arrest for schematic fraud or something like that. I'm not sure. So, at this time, we have to take Where is that at? Uh, I I'll show you. But at this time, we got to take you into custody. Please. I'm not put. I just I just want to know if I can put like a better shirt on. We're not letting you go back inside the house. What was that? We're not letting you go back. We can't let you go back inside. Can I get him to get me a shirt, please? Cuz I have no bra. We'll talk to him. Yeah. Well, we're going to put you handcuffs in a car. We can have him go get one for you so you have it when you get to jail. Okay. Okay. We'll figure it all out down there. Okay. What is that? I don't know. It's a open case with some of our detectives. Where is this? Charlotte, I don't know. This is I could ask. Would you want to speak with one of those? Sure. Let me see what work defraud mean. Uh, I'll look it up for you. There's a little little pocket in the seat. Kind of put your hands back in there. There you go. It's not back there. Getting him to get me the blue or just a dress. Yeah. Yeah. I'll go ask him to get you a top. Okay. I'll turn the air around. The landlord was charged for trespassing and resisting arrest. As for the renter, she ultimately received the stay she had requested, though it was at the county jail. Thanks for watching.
