hey trendys trendsetters and my trendy tribe okay y'all this is uh just a warning because I've actually seen some of these ads for the past few years but of course right now with the summer happening they picked back up these solar panel companies that come around soliciting y'all be wary honestly I would more go off a reference than anybody's listening for anything at your door to sell to you security systems Lawn Care um the solar panels all those things don't sign up through soliciting if you can help it they're usually they're trying to take advantage of some way you're not going to read the whole contract a lot of times while you're standing there with the person breathing over you you didn't get to do your due diligence before you were even contacted um it's a lot of pressure sometimes they run off of just um if the person has a really engaging personality you just can't believe that this person would do that to you all kinds of things so or or some people have been weirdly kind of held hostage in their own home because a salesperson wouldn't leave the house until they signed it's been some crazy things and that was throughout all the different soliciting businesses so with the solar panel one specifically a lot of these solar panel companies are Fly by Night they don't last long the sales person is not going to be responsible anymore once you sign that paperwork like they're not gonna care what happens um at least this this particular story they actually did get the solar panels but they were told that they were completely free via a government grant the couple did try to ask some questions but obviously they were eventually convinced they had an electronic signature on a contract so I'm guessing they only got to see probably the signature page of the contract because they seemed surprised later to receive a 40-page contract showing that they were late on payments because of course again it was presented as free to them and it turned out to be a cost of thirty thousand dollars but it was over 20 years and with the interest it would have been about sixty thousand dollars a lot of these companies I keep saying it will also try to put a lien on your house when you don't pay them they try to work that into the contract including security system companies so be wary of that but yeah y'all be careful um we started putting up no soliciting signs for our house personally because we just don't even want the encounter like you it's okay don't don't stop here because you are wasting your time if I see you outside I can give you a bottle of water that's all I can do for you we don't want nothing but yeah of course they try to take advantage of anyone that's I either seemingly naive of how certain products work but yeah so that could be age it could be either age like honestly I've seen all age ranges in this case they were um a 70 and 80 year old couple but it has happened to young couples middle-aged couples it's just a thing that they do and they rotate through employees every year probably even throughout the summer months yeah but they pressure them because you know it's going to be commission based for the person that's trying to do it take care of yourself here's one of the stories but I've seen many like them but yeah y'all let me know what y'all think talk to you later bye well you've probably seen the ads on TV and online that you may qualify for free solar panels boy like every single day on the computer somewhere one elderly Houston couple took the bait and then they called investigator Amy Davis because they realized they had been hooked and tricked into paying tens of thousands for the so-called free solar panels toss-up means staying on a budget so when a man knocked on their door in Dumbarton Oaks pitching solar panels in December Bernard initially said no thank you I tell them says we don't have money to purchase it he said oh there's a government grant you it won't cost you anything intrigued Bernard invited the man and another salesperson inside she started with a question the only Homer said yeah she said oh well Governor Grant was going to cover everything did she say why the government would want to give grants to give you free solar panels she said it was a test it was a test that that the governor was checking the solar panels as far as the productivity etc etc in exchange the mosleys say the salesperson told them they would have lower electric bills and the panels wouldn't cost them a dime the couple remember signing one document that day one page and then another page that she just wanted an initial they read it but they didn't get a copy within a few weeks City inspectors posted these permits and papers on their home and then Crews installed the solar panels but after that first initial meeting the mosleys were never able to reach that helpful salesperson again she always had an excuse by text the saleswoman told tasa she was with another customer Inc Court then she got coveted then all communication stopped and the bills from Sunrun started that your Center on solo Khan has a past due balance the letter said the mosleys were 30 days past due and now owe late fees laid out in their Sun Run contract I called and asked for a copy of the contract and then that's when they sent it and it was 40 pages long 40 pages with tossa's electronic signature one of the pages shows the payment schedule it shows the mosleys could pay some 38 thousand dollars in full for their new solar panels or pay monthly over 25 years at the end of it the mosleys would have paid more than sixty seven thousand dollars Bernard would be 107 years old first thing I thought was oh my God they're sending us these bills what happens if we don't pay these bills will they be able to you know take our home good question when I contacted Sunrun they based in San Francisco a spokesperson told me the sales woman who knocked on the Mosley's door works for another third-party company called solar Bros out of Dallas solar Bros sell solar panels for multiple businesses all of its salespeople are independent contractors and a solar Bros spokesperson told me they fired the salesperson who lied to the mosleys about the government grants Sunrun told me they will no longer allow that woman to sell their products and within days Sunrun offered to remove the solar panels from the Mosley's home repair their roof and void their contract I hope other people will see this and know that and need to be very very careful about purchasing anything most less the solar systems and to be clear there are no government grants that will pay for solar panels at the federal or at the state level that sales representative now sells solar for another company still in Houston I spoke with her by phone and she admits that she told the mosleys that government grants would cover the cost of those panels [Music] um
