[Music] in Sheffield a burglar is trying desperately to escape from the police he got this car when he broke into the owner's house and stole its keys he's being chased by PC Tim's governed and the crew of South Yorkshire Police helicopter Sierra Yankee nine-nine the sky cops the damage is more serious than it looks from above the crew can see that the stolen car is breaking up so too can pcs govern [Music] then back to London back it up to the pursue this burger is quick very quick he's also very crafty by hiding under the car he thinks he can fool the sky cops as well as PCs govern out like a Christmas tree and he has no chance tonight the police in South Yorkshire go after burglars who are increasingly robbing homes to steal the keys to expensive cars 'king the sky cops to put them out of business by launching operation ocean it's not pretty what they'll do with it will put a lot of concrete through your front door they will run through your front door they will knock it down some way and they will basically smash and grab the keys [Music] 7:00 p.m. sheffield airport the sky cops won't be the only major force in operation ocean PC Tim's Garvin and the car crime unit are also big players in the crackdown on burglars who steal car keys and then owners luxury cars I estimated that over a million pounds worth of high-value car stolen the last months alone they pick specific times that they're gonna do the crimes they're obviously prearranged war targets they're gonna go for what vehicle we're gonna go after they've got specific ways that they operate and it makes it very very hard to detect as you can see we've got a lot of people involved here in unmarked unmarked cars plotting up and creating a net it seems to be a trend with these people that wherever they go whether they've been cited by police or not the traveling at extremely high speeds so he can't fail to notice in the problem we've then got is getting behind them so that will be over to the mark traffic cars to try and stay with them long enough see our colleagues from air support over them can I just emphasize that it will be quite a long drawn-out job and it is a case of sitting and waiting waiting is something the crew of 99 want the police cars to do if they find a speeding stolen car so that they can tell the good from the bad lost when we go overhead you'll be asked to halt and at that stage you can all stop your cars it's gonna be it's gonna make our life a lot easier there's only one car flying about rather than everybody find about trying to find it these criminals will come along they will see your valuable car and the first thing they'll do is have a look through the window through the letterbox and if your keys are visible on the shelf then it's not pretty what they'll do they will put a lump of concrete through your front door they will ram through your front door that then will knock it down some way and they will basically smash and grab the keys operation ocean starts at 10 PC scalp and his oceans men on the street he knows who they're after and will be the main contact with 99 quiet optimistic we always need the log if everyone does the jump rat tonight these people come into our area no reason why we shouldn't catching tonight the waiting has begun [Music] excess excess control 20 operational more violently a Subaru Impreza has been stolen anymore belfry acknowledged we'd already had information about this car that it may be out in the area we knew it was one of the outstanding stolen cars so it was it was one that the officers around looking for and when we heard that one of the cars had got behind it we thought fantastic PC Scullin isn't chasing the stolen car armed police are but he is trying to get to it as are the crew of 99 who were just moments away from the chase itself [Music] two to three minutes that could be adjusted unfortunately because of the the kind of car that these people are driving and the manner of the driving that they're prepared to go to they managed to lose the car so it was a little frustrating the ground cops may have lost the stolen sports car but 99 still stands a chance of spotting it provided everyone does what they agreed to do earlier what would he score strike to the start of the operation was that if we got overhead and be a foot chase or a vehicle chase would very quickly call everybody to a halt that then says that the one car that's left moving is the one that we're looking for we're just cops asked us all to go stationary so the BMW's on the carry on driving are like a lunatic you know pick it up quickly please obviously fine at high altitude well they've helped that way so you can't be on that road now if my story on the stairs on Marion's a toss is obviously mostly slipped through the net but another fish is entering the ocean net in progress it's a camper van that's being followed by a beat Mobile's 11 where did you say it was the chase isn't on pc Skadden's patch it's five miles away where other ocean officers are staked out workshop yeah seven o'clock just a little bit of blue a lot yeah I've got it as well yeah unfortunately we've got a very good clear night that night and we were able to pick the blue lights up of the pursuit from some four or five miles away we thought to be honest that it wouldn't be resolved long before we got anywhere near but incredibly these people just kept going a speed and they were really really putting the foot down and throwing this thing around the corner in his haste to get away the driver of the camper van isn't looking where he's going turned into a cul-de-sac and the police car was able to to pull up them you know alongside it and that's when the fun started there are three people in the van but 99 only has eyes for the two that come from the driver's side there were three people involved and one of whom was a woman who was able to sort of sea creature salford alongside a house driver take two outstanding one appears female but we still nearby stock location we had another police constable watching the end of the road and she very very casually slung a handbag over a shoulder and sauntered out as though she was off on a shopping expedition treated walk you know but the fact it was three o'clock in the morning rather gave the game away so she started to run she's running off my sorry I know PC Lucas is unable to give them the answers they need the driven this dumb thing into a brand new house in a state that wasn't in the map book so I'm trying to talk people onto it and there's nothing in the book telling me what street they're all so in the end I threw the book to one side picked up the controller and have put the torch down on it it was the only way really of directing anybody on that torch is 99 s powerful night son and now pcs govern has also arrived then we noticed a car from around the corner shaft it was as the ocean team searched the campervan for clues they are confirming the worst these aren't burglars Nazi now wants to a containment of the needles and drugs they found prove there are junkies stay in the vehicle the campervan is not what they thought it was either we always follow the driver because he's the one that's really committed a crime we saw the person from the left-hand side run into a back garden and we say discounted them but we were concentrating more on the driver and it was at that point that the one of the following police cars then apprehended one of the persons that was running around and we thought oh great we've we've got the driver but as it turned out the vehicle was left-hand Drive and as such the person that we captured although you know guilty of being in the vehicle wasn't the driver fortunately the driver was arrested by the ocean team and everyone is accounted for I must have missed the first campervan I've ever been involved in a failed to stop with to steal this enormous great thing and then for want of a better words have the cheat to try and outrun evolved rt5 he's just defies belief the driver was wanted they should have been in court sometime before the offence the female pastors wanted me in the court that day it's only after the event that were found out from from the driver that the stolen in order to go to kick miss for a holiday access-controlled we have anymore boughs for you to there's good news Lucien officers have found the missing stolen sports car the bad news is it's been abandoned in a housing estates 99 is already above but there's no sign of the thief we heard that the car had been found abandoned near by and it kind of gives that extra bit of resolve thinking right he's now out on fault he's got nowhere to go I've got one slightly against a bank idea and it was quite a detailed search so we undertook that it's just a watch [Music] PC Skelton is on the way pretty much everybody in the flow and malaria just looking for these offenders on foot now people not making a phone call it's a bit guarded yeah lost him in this is--there there somewhere it's gone inside we have to be careful because we have used now soon Ellicott steam traffic cars and start bombing on the sea police cars for unrelated things will they'll be careful not to start run after wrong people it's half past ten not all the residents are unhappy most are now out and about some are even phoning Crimestoppers one of the things we find when we're doing searches you get numerous people out in the back doors out in the back gardens looking at us and what that obviously then does is that if the efendim happens to go across the garden this persons out on the get spotted they run it on their diploma I don't think I'm gonna bother where are you looking now hey stop be the fastest and I've gotta make sure I keep going to their left on to the next road the man has stopped running to act casual running he says he's not guilty under gave false details as well unfortunately for him because of the number officers at working on ocean there were quite a few people who upon seeing this person realized that he wasn't the person he said he was I was actually one of the prime targets for the other the operation itself it's very high performance high value too bro and I'm sure the owner is absolutely pleased as punch to were to go scar back in one piece it's now 2:00 a.m. time for more watching and waiting for the next burglary excess excess to see ranking nine-nine receiving a stolen car is being chased on the other side of the county it may be the gang they're after [Music] it is another ocean job two men are in the stolen car and they know where they're going the men have gone to ground in the gardens they are surrounded by 20 ground cops it's pitch-black no-one can see anyone else apart from nine 9's crew from our perspective we just see a thermal image picture and it's very very difficult sometimes for us to dictate whether that's a police officer a household a member of the public and it's and based under all the offenders [Music] having so many bobbies on the ground is causing PC smells problems 9 to the officers that are running in the back of the gardens can have one of yous : up a place it's quite important to try and identify one point of contact yeah from 9 officers at with at the dog handler just beyond you the guard over the garden there's another group of officers can you raise your hand place to identify ourselves you could then get 20 bobbies we're all enthusiastic and they want to get stuck and they want to be the one that you talk to so you're hanging at 20 police officers they can up in there which and it can be quite difficult at times forward slightly left directly in front of you over the hedge line in what looks like the junction of Gardens is again what looks like a green house but there's definitely a heat source there as I say it may well just be that it's some kind of heat to in the greenhouse there is no one hiding in the greenhouse and Smales was right about the heater and sometimes you're wrong and at the end of the day everything gives off some kind of a heat source and it boils down to how you interpret that hue sauce being wrong doesn't mean it's right to give up the fugitive is staying put even though the police are only inches away right now face the hedge in from Sevilla I walk straight into the edge is directly in front of you in the hedge line holding his nerve has worked here in the rock garden it is usually quite dark it's alright for us to say you know if you walk forward there's a fence or a heads line in front of you if they can't see that it could be quite unnerving for them still I want to be raise your hand please Roger wrap me up - if you walk forward their butt is laid on the floor and the other side of the hedge they really have to put sort of their trust in what we're telling them to do and hopefully we're not gonna tell him to walk into a fish pond or you know trip over a hedge or a fence I've got two officers with there but I'll update you as soon as I can [Applause] back at operation ocean's base pcs Govan has got a new car a special high-powered police undercover sports car worth thirty thousand pounds and capable of beating the best I'm not a mechanic whatsoever and I can't tell you what some doofus engine apart from it's quick they give us the performance that we need to go after these kind of cars the four-wheel drive gives us the trash and we need the safety that we need in the type of work that we're dealing with and we don't get any skidding or anything like that with these vehicles whilst car then heads for a quiet place to lie in wait for the burglars cierra Yankee nine-nine must refuel at least if you're airborne you can respond immediately the big problem there is you've n got considerations of fuel endurance and you know various other aspects which mean that we might have to go back for fuel at a time when we're needed so yeah that's that's half the problem is trying to make that decision as when when to go and when to stay even though it's 3:00 in the morning the ocean team are still hopeful of catching more car thieves we're on a major crossroads there just in case of the papaya stolen vehicle or another car where they're not going to get compromised by getting head-to-head with it on the tight lane and can't turn around excess excess control through any operation ocean mobiles power vehicle donkey any mobile be acknowledged 24:01 where's the team yep on the m18 just outside Doncaster traffic cops believe they've found the stolen car but it isn't high-powered and unusually the driver is pulling over 99 is still minutes away and so is PC Scott on the hard shoulder of the m18 the police have learned that the suspected stolen car hasn't been stolen after all [Music] but the driver is now failing to stop for them an offence this is now a pursuit [Music] Yankee nine-nine is almost overhead and the driver is clearly now desperate to get away heading off the motorway straight for the heart of Doncaster we eventually got overhead to pursue as it had made its way towards the town centre of Doncaster and some of the residential areas around the outskirts of the town centre a video as soon as the camera picks up on the vehicles that are involved you do get some indication of just how hard the vehicles have been driven during that pursuit because the bonnet is glowing white and the wheels are glowing where the brakes have been applied quite heavily roadworks with traffic in them are usually a policeman's friend of blocking the fugitives but this time even the most solid of cars isn't enough to stop this man in 99s cockpit the crew are trying to decide whether to use their night Sun as a way of warning others on the road about the chase the night Sun allows people who are not anything to do with this pursuit to have a little bit of advance warning they see a beam of light coming up the road towards that which either a stolen car being chased by Osiris aliens [Music] [Music] [Applause] like many of those who'd been caught in the ocean net tonight the runaway heads for gardens and the darkness they provide lost contact with him on the camera system as they went round the back of a hedge and out of shot of the camera but we were able to contain the gardens that he went in almost immediately a man is found in a shed he says he's not been on the run the crew of 99 are convinced he told them they had lived there always were doing some work for the occupants a house in the shed took that its merits initially don't straight down the first guard but it's a little bit further there was nobody else in any of the gardens and because would contain the gardens we knew that the offender that still had to be in there so went back and spoke to the the chap that would originally identified his story didn't really stand up to any kind of scrutiny [Music] even once it's cleared the game's up the man still isn't coming quietly he's going to have questions to answer when he faces the ocean team the drug addict driving the campervan was wanted by the police and was taken in for questioning the man hiding from the police was given six months for aggravated vehicle taking and a two year driving ban and the disqualified driver of the Ford car was fined and banned from driving for a year operation ocean is over for tonight a total of six people have been arrested and over 60 thousand pounds worth of vehicles were recovered but for the South Yorkshire Police and Sierra Yankee nine-nine this is just the beginning you know in the future we shall carry on with ocean that we shall hopefully gets all the offender's trapped up so the career fair don't leave your car keys on the stairs in front of your front door don't leave your car keys in the door itself with your house keys take them to bed with you put them in your bedside table if they can't get your car keys they can't get your car it's as simple as that [Music] [Music]
