If you don't like commentary, I will be talking. I'm here. I'm going to be talking, but I will not be mad, take offense or anything if you don't like talking, but if you end up choosing a video from the list of videos at the at the bottom, please leave me a like just for the fact of the curation part of it. I really appreciate it. Okay. Okay, next one up. Southwest pilot arrested for DUI minutes before takeoff. The morning of January 15th, 2025, a Southwest Airlines pilot walked through the crew security lane at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. He was scheduled to operate flight 3772 to Chicago. A TSA officer noticed something that triggered a mandatory check. Enough concern that airport police were asked to intervene [music] before the aircraft left the gate. The man they approached was 52-year-old David Paul Allsop, an experienced commercial pilot responsible for dozens of passengers that morning. Federal rules for pilots are strict. No alcohol within 8 hours of a flight and a blood alcohol limit far lower than the legal limit for drivers. What followed inside that jet bridge triggered a full DUI investigation, one that grounded an entire flight and raised serious questions about crew oversight and safety. You're watching the full body cam of the incident. >> [sighs] >> Feels good breathing that fresh air. It feels good. >> [music] >> Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Yeah. They like it. Say again? They said they like it. Good morning, sir. Morning. How are you? You doing okay? Yeah, fine. When was the last time you had an alcoholic drink? Last night. How about how many hours ago? Uh like 10 hours ago, at least. How many drinks did you have? A few beers. Okay. Define a few beers. A few beers. Define a few beers. Like three. Okay. Yeah. What did you drink? Light beer, Miller Lite. >> Miller Lite? >> Yeah. Anything else? >> Nope. Okay. Who were you with? My ex-wife. Okay. Yeah. Would you be willing to perform a field sobriety with me right now? No. Why not? There's no need. Well, I can smell an odor consistent with an alcoholic beverage. Oh, sorry. These. What is that? Rolaids. Do you have any fresh ones that haven't been in your mouth? >> Yeah. You can freshen your breath with those. Thank you. This flight is going to be delayed. Assistant manager. Smells minty. That's my issue. I don't have a PBT. And like I don't have a PBT. So it's fully booked cattle Okay, here's the You know we know that. So what does that mean? I heard you say from the last drink. Do you have that? We already have a report saying that you did it possibly might be something to drink ration. Someone detected a smell of alcohol and then they reported it to us. Who would have done that? This guy here just All right, he got fingerprinted. I understand. I can sense or I have a I have a smell of a adult beverage coming off of you. I don't know if it's coming off your mouth or your skin. If it's coming off the pores, I get it. But uh we have to do our thing, so we're kind of in a So I assume Would you do field sobriety? Sure. That is it? Do you have a jacket or something cuz it's kind of cold outside. >> I'm not sure what we can do right here. Okay, hang on. Yeah. I'm going to do the eyes first. >> Watch it. Cuz I just said I'm not certified, so like I have to do it or just watch for clues or stuff. This is my All right, this will be a brand new unchartered territory. I don't want to talk to the first officer. Yeah. I was trying to get The officer has a bicycle mustache. Um okay, I am terrified of people that just can't admit they have something in their system they should not have and have people's lives in their hands. And that goes for driving, but oh my gosh, it's even scarier with flying. Like you just shouldn't fly a plane, don't have the drinks. Like I need you to have that kind of self-control. You need to be disciplined. Have it on your off time. You know how many hours it takes to get off your system. You know your rest schedule, all that stuff. And to pretend like you don't do this makes me mad, too. Like when they act like uh they didn't do anything wrong or they don't know what you're talking about, but everybody's lives are in your hands on that plane right now. I don't like it. And then the the end kind of makes me mad, too. I talked to the flight attendant. They were there, too. Okay, so we'll do that. We'll go ahead and do one step at a time. All right, do you have any big time or fresh breath? Yeah. You do? We do. I don't have my phone, but and my watch is dead, but I can do a few minutes. Okay. Well, this can go quickly, but just come over here real quick. All right. Did they say who noticed? A lot of times it's usually a co-worker or, you know, somebody that's on the airline staff that notices alcohol on like a pilot's breath and stuff like that. Okay, so do you have any health issues or anything? I'm sure you're a pilot, so you can't have any crazy health issues or any problems or anything. >> No. I noticed you wear contacts or you have glasses. >> So I'm just going to ask you to do it. We can just go away from the passengers. That's fine. Sure. Okay, so all I need you to do >> Mhm. is the tip of my pen right here, this little white tip. I'm going to move it back and forth. >> Yeah. I need you to follow it with your eyes. >> Mhm. Do you understand that? >> Yeah. You don't have any issues doing that for me? Okay. So just pay attention to the tip of this pen. We'll keep it All right, for this next exercise, um I know it's kind of difficult cuz it's kind of at an incline. Uh But just on here on this more flat surface, and I need you to take a series of heel-toe steps. I'm going to explain it to you. What you're going to do is you're going to put your left foot or your right foot, whichever is more comfortable. I'm left-handed, so I'm using my right foot first. You're going to go heel-toe, and if you just take a step to the side real quick, you're just going to take a series of heel toe steps and count out loud. One, two, three, four, five. And you do that till you get to 10. Make sure you count out loud. Make sure you go heel toe. Don't look down. Don't put your arms out for balance. Do you have any issues with that? No problem with that. I walk here and it's well You can start right there. All right, you ready? Yep. You may begin. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Keep going and go the other way. One. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. 10. All right, if you could step off the last little platform. All right, so this next test is called the one-legged stand. So what you're going to do is whichever foot you prefer, whichever one you feel like you have a stronger balance with, you're just going to lift your hands at your side put your foot out in front of you like this and you're going to hold it. You're just going to count out loud 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000 until I tell you to stop. Okay. Don't start until I tell you to begin. Do you understand the instructions? Sure. All right, you may begin. 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000, 4 1,000, 5 1,000, 6 1,000, 7 1,000, 8 1,000, >> [clears throat] >> 9 1,000, 10 1,000, 11 1,000, 12 1,000, 13 1,000, 14 1,000, 15 1,000, 16 1,000. Okay, you can stop there. Um Just do me a favor and just hang out real quick. Here's a mint sprite. I just got to go talk with them for a little bit, okay? Yeah. For the amount of alcohol he would have to have to still be to have alcohol in his breath at 6:00 in the morning, he might be a high-functioning alcoholic because he ain't wobbling as much as I've seen some of these other people do when they do the DUIs. Um he well, I don't want to spoil it, but uh I also don't know if you can Isn't that thing a little wobbly that you walk on from the plane or from from the gate to the plane? I I was like, I don't know, but I'm just asking. I don't know. Yeah, he is doing many he's doing way better than many of the people we've seen. That must mean I really think he's a functioning alcoholic cuz his balance ain't that bad. I saw yeah, the nice day and this I don't really see it in the walking turn. Um but I definitely saw it in the nice day. So so Yeah. So at this point in order to be DUI last day since he doesn't agree to a blood draw This is Yeah. Uh being that there's not a sergeant on duty coming in that's where I'm really Well, I saw the twitch. Yeah. Can you come out here so I don't have to discuss his name? Yeah. Okay. What's going on? What's going on? So we have a couple of vests supervisor and I with the airport police department. Uh So just so you guys know, I had a few drinks last night. I I met him. We had a drink and I So my problem is is that right now as I'm talking to you, I don't smell anything coming off of you. I can smell a very strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming off of him. And that's a huge issue regardless in general whether we were standing on the side of the road here or you were in the cabin right next to you. It is a bigger issue because there's what? Probably 100 It doesn't matter how many people. It doesn't matter. It's the same point here. But the issue is I can detect it and so I'm going to say I don't know where you guys are based out of or what the hub is, but with the FST that I just put him through, he did exhibit signs of impairment on top of the odor as well. So I'm going to make a phone call to my supervisor, but there's a very strong possibility for a very strong possibility that he is going to be taken into protective custody. He will not be able to operate an aircraft while intoxicated. So if you need to start making some phone calls, I would just go ahead and start doing that. All right, so a couple things. So blood alcohol concentration if you're a driver has to be can only be 0.08 or lower. Um hold on. Oh no, sorry. 0. Less than 0.08 basically. For pilots, theirs has to be less than 0.04%. So obviously for obvious reasons they have to have a lower blood alcohol concentration. I'm pretty sure he's not going to offer his breath up. I don't see him offering his breath up. And then as far as the co-pilot, they have to have both because they're listening for different instructions I'm sure from ground control. Um I don't know what the other people call but they go they they need just for that reason concentration reasons, just normal protocol reasons, they always have to have two pilots. So it's going to be him and it's got to be somebody else they call in. It can't just be one pilot. You know, do we have any blood kits down in the United States of America? Blood kits? Blood test to test my blood. Uh I don't have that I'm aware of. That's the UC The UC I just did on the side of the road here. I'm skip I'm going to skip over them making their decision because they seem so unsure that I'm just going to go ahead and get to the next part when they figure out what they want to do. So I'm skipping it here. with DUI. Okay. All right, well. Yeah. So what do you want me to do? So what's going to happen is if you if you don't agree to a blood draw, then it'll be DUI last day. You'll be booked into the Chapman County Detention Center and you can we'll give you a phone call. You can more than likely cuz it's what? Tuesday. It's a week thing. But that's the route we're going to have to take unfortunately, okay? Okay. And if I did agree to a blood draw, then what? I mean that that's just it's it's part of the ongoing investigation that it's like, you know, I did my part, but it's like your blood is the like the non-negotiable like that'll prove whether or not Right. what it is. Mhm. So. Okay. Yeah, well. But obviously I can't coerce you into you have your right. You said no. So based off that alone and based off the field sobriety that you Even if I gave you blood, then nothing would change. Okay. That means you know you have too much alcohol in your system. Even if I gave you blood, nothing would change and he just said that's the be-all end-all of it. It's going to be that blood alcohol concentration, the blood the blood pool, right? Or yeah, taking his blood. Why can't you let him take your blood? Because you know you're over and that would just drive the fact home more. Whereas most people when they know they're over, they'll go ahead and refuse the test so they can cite something else later when they get to the court. So yeah, you know you're over cuz why can't you get back on this plane and not delay this flight? Right. That that is your willful choice that you were willing to make, but based off the calls that we received stating that people down in TSA could smell what smelled like alcohol coming off of your breath and they're not trained. I am trained in odor hall odor and alcohol Okay. That's fine. I mean nothing's going to change. Never mind. >> [clears throat] >> I didn't even talk to TSA today. I went to KCM. But that it's operated by TSA. Right. Okay. So all right, I'll get my stuff, but where do you want to go? Okay. My officer is going to grab your stuff. If you >> Whatever you got to do as if he wasn't putting people's lives in danger. Love how casual he is. You don't mind we're just going to head up to the patrol car so that way we don't have to do all in front of the public eye. As long as you just be cool, I'll be cool. >> Oh, absolutely. So but yeah, I'd like to uh like I mean get my personal stuff and my cell Uh yeah, if you would like to, we can do that. Yeah. Do you want some water or do you want me to take it? Do you have any bottled water up here? Um I think we have canned. Hi. >> My your grandma said, "I'm taking Southwest for the very first time in September. I better not see him." Yeah, hopefully you don't get him. >> [laughter] >> Um from what I remember cuz my area doesn't do Southwest too much, but um I did think Southwest seating was comfortable. I did like that. After the investigation, Elsop was taken to the Chatham County Detention Center. He was released later that day on a $3,500 bond. The Federal Aviation Administration suspended his pilot certification pending a full review. Southwest Airlines removed him from duty and reassigned the passengers to a different flight. His attorney claims the arrest was improper and that the field sobriety tests were performed incorrectly. The legal process is still ongoing. What I wonder what specifically they did think was performed incorrectly. My guess could be that it couldn't be performed on that little ramp cuz the ramp might be unstable, but I know he was drunk, but they may help argue cuz he didn't they never got a formal number of his blood alcohol concentration. So, I think he's dangerous and in denial. That's my opinion. All right, next one. Cops give three trash-talking sisters a reality check.
