Did you assault our victim? How did you assault him? What did you use to assault him? >> When a crime has been committed >> There's only one thing that's meant for. >> Detectives must first identify a suspect. >> A bloody huge zombie knife. >> Same clothing and the same bag. >> Can we track them when they leave? How unlucky are we? >> Next, they must search for rock solid evidence. >> If I'm here, I'm caught on CCTV. If I step here, it's an appliance spot. >> Struck gold. Perfect angle. A case could hinge on one tiny piece of evidence to get that person off the streets. >> Get on the floor now. >> Then they must put their case to the test face-to-face with the suspect in the interview room. >> Criminals always lie to us. It's just a matter of working out truth from the lies and being able to prove their lies. >> You've said you're scared of these people. You're certainly not scared of this person. >> There's always two sides to every story. We're here to investigate and build the evidence. >> Will the evidence stand or fall? Will the suspect tell the truth or will they manage to hide it? >> They might be telling you one thing, but their body [music] language is telling you another story. For a jury to convict, it's down to us to prove those offenses. >> So that is your man? >> This time >> Police, stop and identify yourself. >> Detectives are tracking down two men >> Stop resisting. >> suspected of carrying out a vicious street assault and robbery. >> He is absolutely covered in blood. >> We've got him in cuffs. >> I'm not an idiot, so don't forget my name. I know you've all been looking for me, don't I? >> K Echo Mike 22 Mike 22 >> Go ahead. >> Mark Cross Lane reports of one person that has been assaulted coming in blood. >> Officers are dispatched to the scene of a violent assault on a man walking home from a night out. >> All right, something is not really with it. >> So, it's one person that has been assaulted? >> Yeah, yeah. >> The victim is disorientated and has significant facial injuries. >> Hello, buddy. PC Bond with Sprouston Police. You all right? >> Uh no. >> What I want you to do for me, I want you to look up for me. I'm just going to have a look and just assess your injuries very quickly. Just look up. >> Yep. >> Face is a bit a bit battered up at the minute. What's happened, my friend? >> Went out with me, we we went out various bars and and and ended up going to like and he was set somewhere where where we I don't know. >> Okay, all right. I'm just going to have a quick chat with my controls on the radio then I'll come back to you, all right? K Mike 22 VK. Not getting a lot of sense out of the victim at the moment. Um my only concern at the moment is he is absolutely covered in blood. Can we get a call into an ambulance try and chase this up, please? He's a quite significant facial injuries. How did this happen? >> Oh, I don't I don't I don't I don't actually know. >> You don't know? >> No. >> Did you go out with a a wallet, a phone? >> I went out with a with a a wallet and a phone. Yeah. >> Do you have either of those items on you at the moment? >> Uh no. >> No, you don't. >> No, I don't. >> Okay. >> Yep. No, we don't. >> Do you think you may have dropped them somewhere or do you think that someone's taken them from you? >> I I I think probably yes. >> Okay, all right. >> There was a point that I I with some other bloke and uh Yeah, I think I think I was mugged by him. I think I I think he was the one who who initially smacked me. >> Okay. The ambulance have called them, but they have 150 minute delays at the moment. >> Right. >> We're going to have to take you to the hospital. >> Yep. >> Go on in. Right, I've got your hand. >> Yep. >> There we go. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Echo Mike 22, Victor Kilo. So, the update at the moment is um so, he's got quite significant facial injuries. He's got no recollection of how this has happened. Believe he might have hit his head rather hard. Um getting no pupil dilation at all. He's got a lot of blood down his front and he seems to still bleeding [music] from his face. He doesn't seem overly intoxicated and think it may be as a result of a a head injury as a result of being assaulted. The case is handed over to the criminal investigation team. They're tasked with identifying the perpetrators of this vicious assault. >> Real cameras on the roundabout. Getting the council footage from the car park. >> The officers assigned to the case are Detective Sergeant Lee Mariner and Detective Constable Craig Weir. >> We've had a report that on Saturday night, the early hours of Sunday morning, a male has been found by a passerby on Lime Cross Lane. He's phoned ambulance cuz this chap is covered in blood. I think to see him last night and got more of a detailed account from him now that everything's calmed down a bit. He said that he's been assaulted and he's been hurt by unknown people. He does have some nasty facial injuries. >> [music] >> His mobile phone's been stolen. >> Mhm. His bank card has been stolen from him and two withdrawals of 250 quid, so [music] 500 pounds in total. He's been punched once and then they've formed a more sustained attack >> [music] >> and then stolen his items. And he hasn't been able to give us a description other than it was two white males. So, I think in terms of lines of inquiry at this time, if [music] we can try and get CCTV from Mile End Cross the Lane. >> I think you've you've covered pretty much everything. It's fine. >> I think so. >> Yeah. Go and find the one CCTV. >> I'll get onto that. >> [laughter] [laughter] >> The robbery took place in a secluded area. Finding out who did it is going to be a challenge. >> So, what's been going on there? You wouldn't be able to make it out even if you saw him leaving. >> The team must piece together the sequence of events in the run-up to the assault. >> Is this the stills from CCTV? >> Yeah. >> They start by trawling hundreds of hours of video surveillance. >> Got any gloves in here, Sarge? >> Other evidence must also be gathered. They've taken the victim's clothing to send for forensic testing. >> Have you got any brown evidence bags in here? Lovely job. I need three if that's all right. >> Three. Case the one too. >> Yeah, please. Thank you so much. Yeah, can I ask for your help? >> This is all I don't have to do there, buddy, would you? >> This has been seized from him and will be sent off to the lab in the hope that we can get some DNA from there, which could then ID our suspects. >> So I play that for you, Craig. >> Despite examining CCTV from across the city, there's no clear sign of the assault itself. The focus now shifts to tracing the [music] victim's specific movements. >> We know that our victim leaves the city center around 1:00 a.m. and is found by police at 6:00. So we've got a 5-hour window to track our victim's movements. And by tracking our victim, we could [music] then identify our suspects. We've created this map from the city center up to the point that our victim was found. This road here is the ring road of Norwich, and within this road is the city center. This is where we first have our victim on CCTV. >> Tracking his route out of the city, DC Weir identifies what could be the suspects. >> That's it. There's our victim. I can see him in the footage with two males. One is walking along the road, and one is on a push bike. Look at that left arm swing. That is such a distinctive walk. This is our victim almost at the area as to where this offense happened. >> Linking potential suspects to the victim is a positive development. But if they can prove that they also committed other offenses, it will help build a stronger case. >> So I've recovered CCTV footage. You can see it's [music] at 20 to 4:00 in the morning. And he's showing some interest in that push bike. >> [music] >> Yeah, he's trying to steal that push bike. He's just trying to cover his face there. He's pulled his hat down. And that's certainly the male that he was with in the prior footage. It's a very distinctive walk where he swings his left arm. You can see this other male directing [music] him almost in how to unlock it from the chain. That is definitely those two males. Clearly they've gone out to commit crime tonight. >> There's now good circumstantial [music] evidence, but the suspects still need to be identified. Fortunately, Craig gets a break. >> This footage is pre-assault. It's at 10:00 to 3:00 in the morning. And so, it's over 2 hours before our assault. The camera's actually just panned on on one of the males. He's a tall male, and I'm I'm pretty sure I've met him before. I think it's a fellow called Adam Royal. I arrested Adam Royal in the summer of 2020, I believe, for a domestic assault that took place in the center of Norwich. He has previous for dishonesty offenses. He's been in prison for theft and violence, including robbery. I'm confident that that is Adam Royal. And knowing [music] knowing his previous, and knowing the people that he associates with, I think there's a very strong possibility that he's involved in this incident. >> DC Craig Weir has identified one of the men, a serial offender, Adam Royal. Now, it's time to bring him in. >> Good afternoon. Myself and some colleagues from CID are going to affect an arrest. Have [music] you got any units that would be free to assist us? >> Let's do this. Uniform have got to come. >> Yeah, mate. Guard, I'm now on the way. I've just managed to grab someone else's well. So, it will be three more of us. >> Excellent, mate. >> Who is this? >> Royle's last known address is at a homeless hostel. >> Who is head CID, mate? >> Can you hear me, all right? >> I'm outside. >> Adam. >> No, it won't be, mate. >> Adam. >> The time is now 8:57, okay? And you're under arrest on suspicion of robbery. So, we just need you to get out of bed, mate, so that we can get you into custody and get this moving, all right? Good man. >> My colleague is going to put some handcuffs on you, all right? Just for the transport. But, we're all right. >> Don't mind. Just let me. >> Adam, stop resisting. >> What are you doing? >> Stop putting your medication in your pill. I don't know what's in there, do I? >> What what [ __ ] medication? >> Give me your hand, please, Adam, mate. Give me your hand. >> Chill out, yeah? >> Just give me your hand, buddy. Adam Adam, mate, just give me your hand, please, buddy, so we can put some cuffs on you, all right? >> How the [ __ ] am I supposed to do that with him on my back? >> All right, he's going to release very gently. Put you down on the bed and then just give me your left hand, all right? Good man. I appreciate that. Give me your hand, buddy. Bring it around the back for me. Bring it around the back. Stand up. Yep. Good man. >> With Royle in custody, the detectives have 24 hours to gather enough evidence to charge him. >> I'm about to go and interview Adam Royal. He's no stranger to the police system and the criminal justice system. He's been around the block a few times. He knows how these things work. I would imagine he's going to try and make my life quite difficult in there. >> I'm PC Weir, attached to Portland CID. This interview is being conducted in an interview room at Wirral Police Investigation Centre. What is your full name, please? >> Adam Royal. >> Thank you. Where were you on the 30th of October? >> I wouldn't know. I've got a bad memory. Due to having long COVID. I can't remember the day is. >> Were you in the city centre? >> No. I'm not the sort of person who goes around the city centres just [ __ ] begging and all that. That's not what I do. >> So, anywhere in the city centre in the morning, you weren't there? >> No. I said that I never went out. Yeah, full stop. You know what I mean? Going out begging and all that. You know what I mean? I could have, you know, quite easily popped out there. >> Okay, so >> It doesn't mean that I've gone out committing a [ __ ] robbery and smashing someone's face in. >> No, that's fine. What I'm trying to do is I'll come to the part with the robbery. >> Well, make it quick cuz you're pissing me off already. >> Well, unfortunately I still have to ask the questions, Adam. We have CCTV footage of a male that I believe to you. This male here in the black with the coat. How do you know my name? All right. So, first of all, is that you on that footage? >> I'm not [ __ ] answering >> If you're not going to show me it You want me to pass it around to you? >> No. Could be me with Ambrose. >> Could be you with Ambrose, yeah? >> Yeah. >> Ambrose who? What's his surname? >> I don't know. >> Right. Is that his nickname or >> Look, mate. As you all know he goes by Ambrose. He looks like him. >> Where did you meet this guy? >> How would I [ __ ] know, mate? >> You must remember where you met him. >> Through scoring. >> I believe that these two individuals, you said might be you and that chap Ambrose, have gone on to commit really serious offenses. >> Well, I don't give a [ __ ] cuz I haven't. >> Right. Perfect. That's fine then. If you're saying you haven't, you haven't. But then you need to tell me absolutely everything you know about this chap. >> What? >> Talk to us about the whereabouts of Ambrose, that's all it is. Time on this still is 03:45 and I believe that that's you and that's that other chap. You two appear to be attempting to find the same lab light. Do you recall that happening? >> No, not really. >> I think that's the two of you. This is a photograph taken of our victim and the injuries >> Yeah. [ __ ] hell, mate. >> Did you commit these assaults? >> No. >> Did Ambrose commit these assaults? >> Not that I know of. >> Do you think Ambrose would be capable of committing these assaults? >> You'd have to ask him, mate. >> If you give me a good >> The whole time I spent with him, yeah, he was trying to beat me up. Yeah, he was an he's an [ __ ] >> Why was he trying to beat you up? >> He's an [ __ ] mate. >> Anything else you can tell us to help us out? >> Cuz I don't know I don't know the guy that well. >> Tell me where to find him then. >> I don't know where the [ __ ] you find him. See him once and twice a year. >> I don't feel like asking anything from you. But looking at the view that 14:22 As I suspected, he's been [music] reasonably difficult. He was saying that he was nothing to do with him. He did, however, tell me that there was someone involved called Ambrose. The name doesn't ring a bell to me. That's going to open up a new line of inquiry. We can conduct investigations around that name, and then tie that back to the other person that we know was with Adam. >> Despite making progress with the identity of the second suspect, there's not enough evidence to charge Adam Royal, and he's released on bail. The focus is now to identify and locate the man known only as Ambrose. And a clearer image of him has been found from the CCTV troll. >> One of the delivery drivers comes round the corner, and at this point we see that second male approach them. He's wearing the green jacket, and obviously a baseball cap. And he fits the age description and physical size of the male that our victim says punched him. >> [music] >> Before a manhunt can be triggered, the investigators must make a full ID of the suspect by cross-referencing the image with their own database. >> I'm hoping that some of my colleagues, when I circulate these images, are going to recognize him, which will hopefully give us an in as to who he is. >> DC Weir swiftly gets a match. >> This is Ambrose Draper. He's a very well-known individual within the Norwich area. >> [music] >> He's committed offenses of all types in the past, including assaults, burglaries, robberies. There's no doubt that this is a very dangerous individual, and someone that we don't want walking the streets of our city. >> The suspect has been identified, but locating him is made harder as he's linked to multiple addresses. >> All right, Liam, what you got on Ambrose? >> Couple. >> So, you've got the one that's on the email. >> The one on the email. >> New one that's come through from Intel overnight. >> Moon shot is the forces specialist team that locates suspects using the road network. They've been tasked with finding Draper. >> We've just got the team doing some Intel checks on him at the minute for warrants signals any other linked addresses or vehicles. And then once we're fully prepped on him, we'll be um we'll be heading out as a team trying to get him in. Right. We ready? Let's do this. >> Yeah, are you ready to go? >> Yes, yes. So, we're now going to do sort of a round robin of the Norwich addresses and then move slightly further out of Norwich. These are addresses where he's linked to for some reason or another, whether he's been found there, seen there, or previously lived there. So, there's going to be four of us heading out. All tasers equipped to affect the arrests. >> [music] >> DC Wear's heading out to join his colleagues on the raid. >> TV on. Coming to the door now. >> Hello, police. Anyone else here? >> No, I'm just calling him. >> Where's Ambrose? >> Ambrose? Oh, you mean Ambrose? You know him? >> Has he been here today? >> No, he came yesterday. >> He came in? >> Him and his brother him and his brother him and his sister came yesterday. >> Did they? Hello, we're just at your car. Where am I supposed to be going? Where am I supposed to be going? >> With the suspect still at large and the possibility he'll soon know the police are after him, it's crucial the team track him fast. >> Whereabouts do we think they are? They were here. Yeah, I really appreciate the information. >> With Draper nowhere to be seen, they've drawn a blank. But new information has come into the team, which could lead them to their suspect. >> My three recent intel reports, that Ambrose Draper was found sleeping in the living room. Whole place is filthy, bed destroyed, wardrobe missing, needles all over the place, and a hammer, a couple of screwdrivers next to the place where Draper was found sleeping. Lovely. >> Sounds like a lovely address. Um are there any officer safety markers on that address? Myself and the moon shot unit will be going down there now. >> With the new lead, DC Wheeler must now head to the address. But will the potentially violent Ambrose Draper be there? >> [music] >> The address that we're going to is very well known on police systems. Our suspect Ambrose Draper has links to it. Um and he's previously been found there. Um there's intelligence on our police systems that um this address is known for drug use. There's over 40 people linked to this address. >> Yeah, that's what we'll see. >> Let me come up. >> [music] >> All right, you all right? Tell me you've got him. >> All in darkness. >> Proceed. Yes, yes, they're um they're proper curtains. They're you can't see him. Well, the hinges are Have you looked at the letter box? >> Yeah. Full of letters. >> Is it? >> He was a suspect person, they um very straight pair is mainly But on one occasion, there was an investigation which was linked to >> Or save >> That's my duty. >> Hello, it's the police. Can you come to the door, please? >> Definitely lived in. This is obviously the bedroom or the or the bathroom. Why is nobody in? Have we checked with the neighbors yet? Hello, madam. Sorry to bother you. My name is Craig and I'm from the police. Have you seen anybody next door recently at all? Does someone live there, do you know? >> There was a man there. I don't know what his name was. >> Oh, it's fine. We're just trying to find someone that we think might be in the wrong in this area, but it's nothing to worry about. Nothing for you to be concerned about at all. >> He used to live in the one across the road at the time. >> What was that? Have you seen any anybody come and go from there recently? >> No. >> Not at all? >> Been on cam the whole time. >> Oh, don't you worry. We'll keep you safe. Take care, madam. It is incredibly frustrating when we identify someone who's committed serious criminal offenses. The net is closing in. We are determined. We will continue our efforts to arrest him. >> [screaming] >> The search for Draper continues. Now the team must look into other places he's been known to frequent. >> Can you just put a call in to see if he's picked up his script today? >> The suspect collects a daily prescription from a chemist. >> Hello, it's PC Abigail calling from Norwich police. Just calling in regards to a wanted male named Rose Draper. That name rings a bell? Yeah, just calling for an update really see if he's been in recently or if you have any news. He didn't turn up yesterday. No, okay. Is that the first day he's missed yesterday? If he does come in today then please let us know. Yeah, all right. Thank you very much. Cheers, bye. Didn't turn up yesterday, but did the day before. >> Do you know what time he normally picks it up? >> He said the evening. >> [music] >> Are they going to ring us if he comes in? >> Yeah. >> Yeah? >> We'll just go to the pharmacy. Today's the end of the script, which means according to the pharmacist it's most likely that he will collect it. Um So, I think this is going to be our uh our best attempt today at locating him. Hello, my man. Can I come in? He hasn't been in today so far, has he? And he didn't call last night. That's surprising for him, isn't it? If he does arrive, if you can just call 999 that'd be really helpful. Thank you, sir. The day is still young and they don't close for another 4 or 5 hours. So, hopefully we'll get a phone call at some point searching him if we don't locate him first. >> While the manhunt is still on for Draper, DC Weir is following up on results from forensic tests of the victim's clothing. He hopes it will put the suspect's DNA at the crime scene. >> Tom. You all right, mate? >> Uh hi, Craig. >> You okay? >> I'm all right, thanks. >> Yeah, good, thanks. >> We've just had the results through for their DNA. The report says that it's 350 times more likely that the DNA found in our victim's pocket is to be from Ambrose Draper >> Yeah. >> and the victim and then two unrelated individuals >> Yeah. >> as opposed to our victim and three unrelated individuals. >> Mhm. What does that mean? >> What it means is that if you were to go out there and grab 350 people at random one of those people would give you a similar result. It's still evidence, but it's not up to the standard that we would sort of expect for a full DNA profile. That's why this sort of the other part of the case becomes really important, you know. It's not strong evidence, but it is at least supporting. [music] >> Okay. >> With only limited forensic evidence, the role of CCTV becomes even more crucial. >> [music] >> New footage has emerged that strengthens the evidence against Draper. >> It shows a male on a push cycle that matches the description of Ambrose Draper shortly after we believe the victim has been assaulted and robbed of his property. So, we can see who we believe to be Ambrose Draper heading towards a cash point within the garage forecourt. >> [music] >> He's wearing a green jacket and a man bag over his shoulder, a black man bag. We know that Ambrose Draper has been wearing clothing that is identical to that earlier in the evening because we have CCTV of his face wearing that clothing. It helps in building the picture around what happened. The male goes to a cash point within the garage, which quite frustratingly is not captured on the footage. Uh and a short time later cycles away back towards the crime scene. We believe Ambrose Draper who has withdrawn two lots of 250 pounds from the victim's bank account. This footage is really helpful. It really does help us in terms of building a fuller picture of what's happened. >> Yeah, folks, strike say 70. Just confirm. >> Team has received news that Ambrose Draper has just visited the chemist for his medication. >> Hello, Ambrose. Cad 307, I've just called the pharmacist back and he says Ambrose Draper left in a taxi about 5 minutes ago now. There's no company name, so we're just going to start ringing around so we can get an index for the taxi. Definitely left pharmacy. But any taxis seen in that area, they're worth a stop if they've got passengers in. ABC, no answer. They're fully booked, so they're most not likely to be that. >> With no description of the taxi, it's vital that the teams both at HQ and on the road locate the vehicle soon or else the suspect will slip through the net. >> Lawyer, no answer. I'm now doing five star. Hello there, it's Sergeant Russell from Norfolk Place. >> Yeah, what do you mean? >> I told you what happened. So don't knock me off. >> Then just in time, one of the Moonshot patrol units intercepts the taxi carrying the suspect. >> We've got him in cuffs. There's another unit coming for transport, I think. Oh, stand down. We were just seeing if you'd done a pick up, but that's fine. We've got our suspect. Thank you. Take care. Bye-bye. >> Good work, boys. Good work. >> Somebody's going to have to go to that chemist to pick my meds up, yeah? If they will, yeah? So, when you go in there, say I've >> just been to the chemist? >> Yeah, but he went in the back room, mate. I'm not an idiot, so I [ __ ] off without my meds cuz I know he's phoning the old bill, mate. I know he's not even looking for me, don't I? >> I don't trust no [ __ ] stranger, you know, though. >> Well, I do now cuz you just told me. >> With Draper now in custody, they must next search for evidence at an address linked to him. >> I'll get that sent to you. >> I'll just wait for uniform to turn up cuz he is a bit of a >> Okay. >> [music] >> We now have authority from an inspector to search our suspect's address. >> And I'll let make my way up that way. >> Thank you, sergeant. >> So, we're going to go there now. We're going to have to force entry because we don't have a key. Um so, we'll get some uniform colleagues to come and assist with that, and we'll search the address. >> To bolster a case against Draper, the detectives hope to locate items stolen from the assault. >> Okay. Let's go. >> Thanks for coming, folks. What we're going to do is there's no one in this address. We don't have a key. Um Andrew Striper has been arrested today for robbery by means of a shot. Um we have authority from Inspector Cox to search the address. Sergeant Betts is going to force entry. Once we're inside, what we're looking for is a blue Apple iPhone 12, uh a bank card in the name of the victim, a green wallet, and some clothing which was worn at the time of the offense. >> Let's do this. >> Keep your body >> That was in 2035. >> Police, identify yourself, please. >> Police. >> Everything clear? >> Yep. >> If you and I start the bedroom, [music] Gemma, if you don't mind, have a look at the living room. Lovely. Mesh. >> Yeah. >> We've got some nice spoons and some stuff. Just watch out for sharps, all right? >> He's a regular heroin user, so yeah, be careful, please. >> Gemma, keep an eye out for sharps. >> But after an exhaustive search, there's no sign of the stolen goods. >> I think evidently it's It's always going to be disappointing when we don't find the things that we want to find, but it's another line of inquiry that we've now completed. >> But the search isn't in vain. >> Um so this hat is of interest. We'll have that. So this is a hat the suspect can be seen wearing um on the CCTV footage. I'm just going to go still up on what the suspect was wearing on CCTV. We'll defense the place just to make sure we don't miss anything before we leave. You can see the hat is the same hat. We'll have the hat purely from a an ID perspective. If I can just give >> I'll give that to you, please. >> It can hopefully tie him to the actual specific assault that [music] took place. Just take it up to the CID office, put it on my desk. All right. Cheers, dude. Thank you. >> The discovery of the hat gives the team leverage. They'll soon get the chance to put their evidence directly to Draper in interview. >> Hi, Ambrose. My name's Gregor. I'll be interviewing you tonight. All right, fella? >> Yeah, yeah. >> He'll be asked questions in relation to the offense, the circumstances of the evening in question. We'll see what he says, and then we'll put questions to him. And we'll put CCTV stills to Ambrose, and we'll put the evidence that we have, and we'll challenge his version of events if he chooses to give one. And we'll look to get a resolution at the end of it. I would say, based on the fact that it's a very serious allegation, and that it's a serious criminal offense, that he will give some sort of an account. Beyond that, I have no idea what he'll say. I've never met Ambrose, so tonight is going to be a learning experience for me as well. Ambrose, the circumstances of this accusation are that on the 30th of October, 2021, the victim has been walking home from the city center towards his home address in the north of the city when he was approached by two men. These men have gone on to subsequently assault the victim, causing suspected GBH-level injuries to his face, and proceeded to use his bank card to withdraw £500 cash from the garage on Mile Cross Lane. You match both in terms [music] of description and clothing to one of the offenders who has been seen on CCTV with the victim. Please, tell me absolutely everything you know about what I have just said. >> No comment, mate. >> Okay. We have obtained CCTV footage taken from a camera that's owned [music] by Norwich City Council. The timestamp is 02:16 hours. Um This I'll show your solicitor first, sorry. >> Let's do that, yeah. >> This male here, Ambrose, is this you? >> No comment. We have further CCTV footage from in the early hours of the 30th of October. The time on the footage is 03:45 hours. And from the footage, two males, one who I believe to be you, and another who's been identified as Adam Royal, who we believe to be an acquaintance of yours, are attempting to steal a bicycle, a pedal cycle. Is this you in this footage? >> No comment. >> Were you and you and Mr. Royal attempting to steal this bike with the intent of committing crime? >> No comment. >> How bros, did you go out that night with the intention of committing criminal offenses? >> No comment. >> Police have obtained CCTV from a business on Mile Cross Lane in Norwich, [music] which shows three individuals, one of which is our victim, one of which I believe is Adam Royal, and the final one I believe is you. This can be a number of coincidences across one evening. If you haven't committed these offenses [music] or you have some justification for how the victim has received these injuries, it's really important that you tell me now. >> No comment. >> Okay. Thank you for that, Ambrose. So, we've just finished interviewing Draper. He was calm. He was collected. He's done this before. So, entirely to be expected how he behaved and what his demeanor was throughout the interview. He said no comment to all of my questions. He didn't rise to any of my challenges in interview. He hasn't told me anything that I can use evidentially, which was disappointing from our perspective. >> With no admission from Draper, the detectives don't have enough evidence to keep him in custody. He's released on bail with a curfew. And with the other suspect, Adam Royal, also out on bail, The case is hanging by a thread. >> They've both been nicked now. >> Yeah, both bailed. >> Yeah. >> We've got them associating together. >> Yeah. >> We've got them heading towards the area where the victim says he got picked up by them. >> Yeah. >> We can't put them with the victim, can we? >> We can't. >> And our victim is giving us a description only, hasn't he? >> Correct. >> Got one of them's done a is agreed to do an ID parade. >> Which one's that? >> Well, they've both just They've both said no. >> They've both said no, have they? Right. We can do that covertly. I would like probably to have a punt and do ID procedures for both, to be honest. See if he can pick them out. >> Hold on. >> Cheers. Thanks very much. >> The detectives have one last roll of the dice to bring in the victim and see if he can identify his attackers from a video identification parade. >> Hi, this is Craig Weir from Northumbria [music] If I've woken you, I can hang up and leave you alone. >> The victim will be presented with photos of various men, including the two suspects, Draper and Royal. >> All right, take care. Bye now. >> We had [music] our victim in to the police station to take part in a formal ID parade. He's seen um multiple different photographs of different individuals. The result [music] is that Ambrose Draper has been formally identified by our victim as the first male that approached him and assaulted him. It's a really important piece of evidence that we have and it's been done formally and it's been done in accordance with due process and reaffirmed our suspicions that Ambrose Draper certainly was involved in this nasty assault. >> With the new evidence, the CPS approved the charges against both suspects. Before the case went to trial, both men pleaded guilty. >> [music] >> I'm really pleased that we managed to get justice for the [music] victim. This was a nasty and barbaric assault on a vulnerable member of the public who was simply walking home after a night out. They should both be absolutely ashamed of themselves, >> [music] >> and I'm glad that we've managed to get the justice that our victims so rightly deserve. >> [music] [music] [music] [music]
