[Music]
today's video is an example of the high
level of training and professionalism
demonstrated by officers of the Columbus
Division of police on a daily basis
the officers you're going to see today
responded to a call about a man holding
a knife to his throat threatening to
harm himself
the officers arrived on scene attempted
to negotiate with this man and
eventually chose to use a Taser to
de-escalate the situation
the reason the taser was effective it's
because the officers had the appropriate
time distance
barrier and lethal force backup to apply
this instrument of de-escalation
the citizens of Columbus Ohio should be
proud of the men and women who wear this
uniform
regardless of what's being told to them
by local politicians
with all that being said I hope you
enjoy this video I hope you learned
something
and I'll talk to you soon

you're how you're feeling and I want to
do what I can to help you the city of

and you know I can call upon most of
them and I can do what I can to help
oh but I gotta get you to drop the knife

I don't know why they beg for eight
because
come on put it down
let's put it down
you misunderstand
listen I'm watching help help me help me
to understand why why you think we can't
help you
hey you you said you haven't tried
let me let me try give give me that
the money that they come from
that from the city of Columbus
we take care of our residents that's
what we're gonna do if they did
no person would ever be on this side but
you have to have to reach out for you
have to reach out you have to be you
have to show that you're going to that
you that you wanted you have to reach
out for that it's just I mean we have to
know that you need help
this this is your required for help this
is this is your chance to let me help
you and to find you someone that can
help
this is this is the chance just put it
down
put it down in nothing nobody gets hurt
put it down
We're not gonna shoot you put it down
nope put it down
put it down because I don't want to hurt
you
put it down
put it down or I'm gonna tase you put it
down put it down Taser Taser Taser
I want to take a moment to explain the
reason the taser was ineffective on its
first deployment when a taser cartridge
is fired it propels two darts towards
the individual that you are meant to
incapacitate the first start on the top
is going to fly straight and level it's
going to contact the individual in the
approximate area where the laser is
pointed
the second Dart is angled at a downward
angle
because when the darts contact the
person the further the darts are away
from each other the better the
neuromuscular incapacitation to that
individual
in this case we had a man who was
crouched down
the first Dart contacted him in about
the abdomen area the second Dart went
between his legs
when there is not two points of contact
for an electric current there is no
neuromuscular incapacitation
put it down Taser Taser Taser
[Music]
um
reason I think it's on the chair back
there
[Music]
yeah get him in here we need a towel or
a rag or something
he ain't got himself
there's like no ask me I got paper
towels
