on July 6th this woman Sonia Massie called 911 because she thought there might be a Prowler around her house so what did you hear um somebody keeps outside my house y'all well we checked your yard we walked around the whole block we didn't see anybody I heard somebody outside yeah we checked your house we checked your backyard I walked all the way through all these backyards we checked your front yard we didn't see nobody nobody's out here you didn't see anybody no nope all right is there anything else we can do for you huh is there anything else I can do for you no sir the police officers invited themselves in and for some reason asked for her ID she wasn't under arrest or suspected of having committed any crime you have an ID that make things so much easier she can't immediately find her ID just driver's license will do and I'll get out of your hair she has a pot of boiling water on the stove so she goes over to take it off the heat for some reason these police officers are afraid of this pot where you huh where you going away from your hot steaming water away from my hot Ste the water yeah oh I'll rebuke you in the name of Jesus you in the of better not I swear to God I'll shoot you your face okay sorry drop tragically within seconds one of the officers fired his pistol body cam recorded him falsely claiming several times after the fact that the woman tried to attack him with the pot no she had a boiling water and came at me with boiling water you shot her yeah as you may have seen in the news already the Sangamon County Sheriff's deputy who shot Sonia Massie his name is sha P Grayson he has been charged with murder I have the actual indictment right here and these are the facts that are alleged by the state in that prosecution the back story is just that police officers were called by Sonia Massie in reference to her being afraid that there was a Prowler nobody called the cops on her she wasn't suspected of having committed any crime she wasn't under investigation she called them for help they arrived they knocked several times finally she came to the door oh [ __ ] said water I love tap it so door there Sheriff's Office two houses down I yeah she was yelling inside hold on and really they were pretty rude to her you coming to the door or not all right hurry up bu Sheriff's Office the one you called hurt you you called us so what did you hear um somebody outside my house y'all pleas is this your car over here please God please God please is this your car over here uh-uh oh please God that's not your black car in the driveway mm- oh well we checked your yard we walked around the whole block we didn't see anybody you know we don't we check the whole hair there's nobody walking around I know y' please God please that clearly she was in distress about something and Afraid eventually the officers explained that they searched her yard and they found no Prowlers I'm trying to get help y'all but what do you need help with nothing I just please God please God please I don't know what to do do with what huh what do you need help with nothing I just wanted to see if I could help me what do you want help with huh what do you want help 20es anyone else live here David Mary 43556 got name this we spoke to ultimately Deputy Grayson sort of apparently invited himself into the house now his body cam was not turned on until after he shot Sonia Massie but these are the factss alleged by the prosecutor the deputies entered Miss massie's home to gather further information and to ensure the residence was safe at no time was Miss Massie under arrest hello yeah I need um I got the sheriff department here but I was calling for help from y'all okay are you there with they're here in my house right now okay you no hold on wait a second wait a second sir hang no hold on okay you can hang for one second okay what's up I got some paperwork can you grab that Bible please yeah hey I just need your name so we can get out of here has there was there any damage previous to your car uh previous yeah it was what was the damage a dent I believe what about Windows oh that it was something that happened earlier okay perfect uh what is your last name shouldn't have to think about your last name you're not in trouble I just need to huh Massie defendant that's Deputy Grayson noticed a pot on the stove and approved of Miss Massie removing the pot to prevent any accidental fires the pot was located in another room of the home separated by a large counter during this time the other Deputy was clearing the house and nothing dangerous was noted defendant Grayson then made a comment about the pot which apparently contained heated water Miss Massie responded verbally and set the pot of water down on a counter in the kitchen during this time the defendant was still in the living room area of the home despite his distance and relative cover the defendant drew his 9mm firearm not the less than lethal taser located on his vest and threatened to shoot Miss Massie in the face you have an idea that make things so much easier I just need just driver's license will do and I'll get out of your hair I want to show y'all my paperwork I will get your paperwork what paperwork I got some paperwork just get your ID real Qui let's get your ID first and then one task at a time here okay let me here grab your ID for me hold on okay your ID one task at a time so let's do an ID and then you can dig around for your uh paperwork I don't know where my ID is you that stack right there maybe one second check my let me this we don't need a fire while we're here right huh where you going away from your hot steing water away from my hot steaming water yeah oh I reuke you in the name of Jesus you and you better not I swear God I'll shoot you face okay sorry drop the seeing the weapon drawn Miss Massie put her hands in the air and stated I'm sorry while ducking for cover behind the counter that separated her and the defendant the defendant with his firearm still drawn proceeded to close the significant gap between him and Miss Massie defendant then aggressively yelled at Miss Massie to put the pot down the defendant then fired his duty weapon three times in the direction of Miss Massie striking her in the face one time only at this time did the defendant Grayson activate his body warn camera shots fire shots fire drop bringing Miss now we got a head shot wound to the female head shot wound to the female 1078 after this the other Deputy announced he was going to retrieve a medical kit from his vehicle to which the defendant in instructed him not to because of the severity of the injury I'm going to go get my kit she done you can go get it but that's a head shot god damn it God I'm not taking BL a water head and look it came right to our feet too God damn it [ __ ] God damn it you good I'm good you good yeah I'm good for let nothing we can do man you good all right well I mean you know what else do we do I'm not taking hot boiling water to face and it already reached us the other Deputy still render Aid and stayed with Miss Massie until medical help arrived defendant at no time attempted to render Aid to miss Massie everybody need anything I'm good okay you do all right yeah I'm all right all right thanks so godamn [ __ ] [ __ ] man what up you good yeah all right come here what's this turn that off so what you just watched was the body cam from the non shooter this is the little bit of Buddy Cam that we get to see from the shooter because he didn't have it on at all the important times he didn't turn it on until after he shot Miss Massie yeah we're SEC C no it's just her in the house she's to 96 is there anything you think we can do for no all right I'm not even to waste my Med stuff then you want to run down real quick no not yet all right right house is clear she was the only one where's he going no she had a boiling water and came at me with boiling water you shot her yeah she said she was going to rebuke me in the name of Jesus and came out with blowing water that's what all this is I was standing right here all right and that's where he's landed what do you all need from just nothing right now just hang out out there for me thank you I need the around the the house you guys can but other than that that's get anything me oh I didn't know what happened yeah I'm good crazy here yeah where's he at inside with me he's good yeah that's my fa I didn't know I didn't know no dude it was good I it [ __ ] happen so goddamn quick that we didn't have time it was me and yeah that's why we need to look no we're good I think she set it up on purpose so this what it is I'm in chill in my car huh I'm G chill in my car for a minute okay I got it a police officer may use deadly force if he has reasonable cause to believe that a suspect poses a threat of serious physical harm to the officer or others and the officer if feasible warns the suspect before using deadly force the reasonableness of a police officer's use of deadly force must be judged from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene at the moment that force was used and not in hindsight in my opinion this clearly was not a Justified use of deadly force the officers were supposed to be there to help her and there was no indication that this woman may be dangerous it seems to me that this bizarre reaction from one of the officers to act afraid of This Woman's pot of water caused her to make a joke about rebuking one of the officers had the woman suddenly grabbed a gun or even possibly a knife though she wasn't very close to them at the time that may make the actions of shooting her reasonable but here she was holding a pot it doesn't appear that she went to get the pot to use it as a weapon against anybody it never appears that she does in fact use the pot as a weapon against anybody in fact this one just doesn't even come close to showing some immediate serious this safety threat to the police officers had she Advanced towards the officers and they told her not to and she continued to yeah okay but even the other police officer knew that it was not reasonable for his colleague to have shot this woman in the head that's why he goes to the back of his car and he's visibly shaking and trying to get control of himself this is the very definition of unreasonable so this is my initial analysis anyways I'll continue to look at the evidence as it comes out we can't live in a society where a police officer just decides that a pot of water on the stove is scary and that they have to shoot you in the head all right if you're afraid of my pot just get out of my house I'm not under arrest I can ask you to leave at any time my rights don't end where your fear begins freedom is scary deal with it
