[Music] How you guys doing? How you doing? >> Good. >> Okay. >> So, we called this company and that check is not issued by them. It's not a real check. >> That's what I got paid. I can't do nothing. >> I know, but just following our official. >> Take your time. I just do as I as I got paid. See if this my second time getting a check like this. I don't know what to do. So >> where do you work at >> me? I'm a contractor, sir. >> I go all over the world. >> So >> construction? >> No, I'm a contractor. I do hot shot. >> What's that? >> Truck and trailer. I just deliver from different companies. >> Like just yesterday, I had to do staging company and I had to do a uh a front porch company. So, as I said, I was kind of found out. >> I'm going to talk to you and let you talk to him. They said that these fraudulent checks. They said it will exist, but I'm going to talk to the manager. >> This is the suspect or >> the person that's trying to cash. All right. So, what's going on? >> So, we have all flags and we get a check like that. >> So, company is in Venice. >> I got you. >> He's in Orlando. >> Gotcha. He's from Texas. That's a flag for us. Um, somebody accessed our system today and changed the contact phone number for the company. So, when we called initially, the person said, "Yeah, that check's good. Go ahead, cash it." which has been >> but but we also keep records of the old number and anything that's changed within 60 days we're obligated to to verify. So when we call the original number, >> the the people at the company said who has not signed that check hasn't been in them in over two years. >> They're no longer signing checks. >> No longer signing checks. That check is not even in sequence. >> When I gave her the phone number, the new one, she said >> that that number doesn't exist. >> Doesn't exist. >> Has no connection to their company whatsoever. So everything about this is is fraud. >> A little bit. >> Yeah. And I'm like, >> well, not a little bit, but it's just not >> funny. He's a contracted, but that's what everybody they all say. >> Is that J? Is that >> Jor? That's Jargon. >> You know, and I mean we took every >> How long he's been here? >> We had him here for about 20 minutes. >> Did we get here quick? >> You guys You guys were like fast. We didn't call you until we were absolutely sure. >> 100% sure. Okay. So, if y'all did Charles, I just probably need a statement from you guys. Um he's going to take primary cuz he's in training right now. >> But that's why I kind of was >> Yeah. >> So kind of like delaying it. I want to talk to you guys before I talk to him. >> And then he got nervous. He wanted to take a step. >> No, he said he said just give me my credentials. Like I just want my credentials. Oh, so he actually said that. >> Yeah. >> I wouldn't be tell you just give me my credentials. Just give me my credentials. Yeah. Now, we also see instances where the person is unwitting, right? They don't know. >> Like they think it's Did you get that vibe from? >> No. No. >> It's like he knew as soon as you said like give him my credential. >> Be surprised if somebody else is right here. They looked outside. We didn't see nothing. But I want to be >> not on this side. Not in our parking lot. There no cars that are unidentified to us. >> Okay. >> But they could very well have been >> parked outside. >> Okay. >> You know, and I don't want to step outside. >> I'll step outside. I think I seen um I seen I just look I don't want to like fuss, but I'll look real. >> They seen you guys. >> They bounce >> the minute you guys walk in. >> We I'm saying we got cameras and stuff. So >> to see where how you got here. Okay. >> But this but everything about this is odd. >> Okay. >> You know, and >> this is from your like experience. >> Yeah. And this is typically how they operate. The the companies want to be away from our market. >> Mhm. >> Right. Mhm. >> And ID is going to be from somewhere else. >> I got >> And then we also look in the system because they know our protocol is to call the company verification. >> So someone is able to get someone in back office or at a different branch to change that number. >> It's like me, it's like me stealing his information >> and changing all his contact information. >> When you call, you get a meeting. And this is not this is not the first time. >> Yeah, it happened. >> This is the first time you seen the >> first time. The number just got changed yesterday. >> I got you today. Okay. >> I feel bad because a lot of these guys, they get duped into this this ring, right? The real danger is the guy who answered the phone and verified the check. Somebody got access to change that phone number in the system. is a very very common move because they know the bank's protocol is anything that looks on we have to call and if they change the contact number we're done. Good news is my buddy here has experience. So he looked looked up the prior number called the prior number and asked them what's this phone number said we have no idea what this number is. This number has nothing to do with us or our company. My uncle who claim who they claim signed a check hasn't changed his formula in 30 years. He has the exact same number. So whoever did sign that check claiming to be Mike, >> but none of that exists. >> He's 23. >> I wish I got paid three to $4,000 checks every week and I didn't have anything to show what work I did or for who. >> But unfortunately, life's not that easy for me. So when you get checks, there's a paper trail of everything that you did and everything else. Um, so I am just simply asking for something that's very simple that should be able to be provided to me of why you got paid that money. Any kind of anything, anything for the work that you do? That's all I'm asking for. >> Any justification as to why you have an almost $4,000 check that you made in a week? >> All I'm telling you, Williams, they seen me different. >> So who who do you >> It's come from different people, bro. But >> that's another person that just text me just now. >> Need to take screens and >> 2x4 railing for outside deck 200 square ft. >> But like where are they going to get your information? >> What do you mean? Oh, trouble. [Applause] >> So what they do is they get my number and stuff off of here. I pick up. They text me my number. They text my number. >> How long have you been doing this? >> Like 3 weeks. Three and a half weeks. >> And in three weeks, you got two bad checks. >> Yeah. >> You should stop doing it. >> I was going to be honest with you, man. Unless we can validate this. There's I mean, >> yeah, man. Whatever happened happens, bro. I'm not I'm not complaining, my man. >> I mean, yeah, I appreciate you sitting here talking to me. And honestly, I'm going to stand by. the other guy. I'm supposed to be observing him. But this is kind of like what I used to do. I was on a task force for this stuff. Um checks should not exist for this sole purpose because the majority of people catching checks is fraud, right? >> Like unless you're like a big business cutting checks, like they're so easy to fake. They're so easy to do and then it takes time for it to catch up to the fact that someone's doing that. And by then money's gone, people are gone. So >> checks should not exist anymore. >> But unfortunately, they still do. Whatever happens after, >> but I would suggest you stop doing that after this, man. >> I'm going to stop working with this specific company. >> Yeah, I mean, >> I ain't going to stop hot shot, but that specific company stop. >> All right. >> Okay. >> It's pretty much Sorry, I got a mask. >> No worries. Sick at home. I got you. >> Um, pretty much met with them. This guy is out there check. They did all their So we called the company. The company's company comes from Nor Venice, right? That was the first thing that threw me off, right? I've been doing this for 13 years. So second thing was Texas ID, right? Which is normal sometimes. It could happen. >> Okay. >> You know, the check was right under the amount that they normally like to keep it because at the 4,000 the system automatically requests us to do more than than we have to. So the teller came to me and gave it to me. I was like, "Okay, let me go and call the company first to make sure I speak to the sergeant, make sure the check is good." Right. >> Called the person I spoke to. If you're the owner of a company and I'm telling you, hey, something doesn't seem right. You would think you'll be a little worried. The person is like, no, no, no. The check is good. Go ahead and cash in. You're fine to go. >> So, I'm like, okay, something throws me off. Let me look at the history of the account. When I look at the history, the phone number just got changed today, literally. So, I said to myself, let me go ahead and call the previous number that was on file. So, when I called the previous number, I actually got somebody, the secretary from the company, which then I I then asked her why was the number changed if >> you're going to handle the check, >> you know. She said that uh she said that she doesn't know why the number was changed. And when I spoke to one of the signers, which is Dana Bates, Dana looked up in her QuickBooks, no check with that number, no check with that amount and no check with nobody named Greg. Um I even spelled it out for her twice. She typed it in, nothing came up. I told her he's from Texas. It looks like the work was done. And then the address here seems different. Um and she right away said that. And I asked her, she asked me for the signature, which I kind of described it to her as a Lillian, I think, or something like that. >> Jillian. And she goes, "We don't even have a Jillian here. I don't know who that is." >> So, right away, you know, she already confirmed that it was fraud. So, before we even call you guys, this has been going around, by the way. >> Um, this is I don't know how they doing this where they go into the system or they change the phone numbers. >> There's been a couple that got terminated because of this because they don't do their fully due diligence and they cash these checks. Um, so because of that, as soon as I see those red flags >> right away, we have to call you guys. Like we had to >> have we run him. Is that actually >> Yeah. >> valid ID? >> Yeah. Valid. >> Okay. >> Um, >> sir. >> Hey, sir. >> We're He's going to talk to you, but we'll we'll do in that room. So, we're just not out here in the lobby. >> Just talking to me. >> Uh, this room. >> No, no, no, no. I don't think so. It's kind of cool though, right? >> Once he's done talking to the sergeant, they'll come in. I just don't like you're you're like on in show out there, you know, for random people to come in. So, >> he's going to come in. He'll talk to you. Whatever. >> All right, my man. >> I'm going to read you rights after each question. I'm going to ask you, do you understand? You say yes or no. Okay. Yes, sir. >> So, you have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? for question. >> Okay. So, with all that being said, you want to talk about >> everything that's going on. We're going to talk about what's going on here. >> Told you what I know. >> I know. Yeah. So, so you want to talk about all this? All right. So, is this your current address? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay, sir. >> All right, ma'am. So, what do you do for work? >> I'm a contractor. >> You're a contractor? What does that ace entail? See me? >> What does that entail? >> What do I do as a contractor? I go highshotting. I go from one business to the next. I either pick up equipment from my business and drop it off at a business or I'm picking up from a business and delivering it uh returning the equipment back to the business. >> What type of equipment? Just any any type. >> Sometimes like just last week what I was telling him, we was doing a front porch. You know, the big old wooden front porches that already come built. I haul those sometimes. Sometimes our bulldozers it just >> is it's a lot of construction stuff is what you're saying. >> Some of it is some of it's not. Some of it air conditions it be different stuff. >> Okay. How long you been doing that for? >> About three and a half weeks. >> Three and a half weeks. >> Okay. How many times we paid for doing all this? Third check. >> Well, no. The last check last week. I get this same >> but uh they end up letting me go but he end up paying me cash and I told him I'mma try you one more time. >> Huh? >> Who's he? >> It's uh I don't know the names that I got off the app. I show him little trial app just text me random. >> So who's who's the one who's giving you those jobs? >> One and I got other jobs as well. >> How long have you known this person that's that's paying you out just since you started this job? Okay. So this this this check the Abbotts Construction. Does this person work for Abbotts Construction? >> Yeah. I don't know about this. >> You don't know any of them. >> Just send me my like I show them. They just send me the address where to pick up from where to drop off to or if I got people riding with me or if I got to go make a detour. They tell me text. >> Okay. So the last track, what happened last time when you had tried to cash that? >> I went in. >> Where was this again? You told me earlier. I don't remember. >> Omaha, Nebraska. >> Omaha, Nebraska. Okay. All right. So boom, when I went in, did the same thing, gave him my check, told my trunk check. We looked over it, saw my IDs, look over again, boom, asked my manager to get the verification, went back to the back. They're back there at the same time about 20 minutes, 15 minutes. >> Said there, waited, came back. Um, they didn't call the police though. They was like check they said this check is a problem with check we cannot cash this check so they gave me no he kept the check and gave me my credentials back so he gave my credit >> so you never got paid for that job >> I got paid from the dude >> the dude paid you directly >> and then you did business with him again wrote you another bad check is basically what you're trying to say >> technically we can see >> well why would you do business with him again like if you Okay. So, tell me you got you got paid. So, I mean cash. Cash is better than check, right? >> It don't work. You going to pay my cash? So, if I go to jail to bail me out and give you cash afterwards or >> Okay. Um, how did you how'd you get here? >> How did I get here today? >> Yeah, >> I got an Uber. >> You got an Uber here, sir? >> Okay. >> I can't drive a B truck here. I got >> Oh, yeah. Truck. Where you staying at? >> Right there. Four season uh for not four season. Uh what's the name of the hotel for something? >> Where is it at? The >> I don't know. >> Is it is it how far to drive? >> 15 minutes from here. >> Oh, so maybe an hour drive. >> It's called four something. It's by a whole bunch of hotels. We got the got the little I think that's a corn if I'm not mistaken. >> That's probably um All right. So here's the deal. Is that check? Not a real check. All right. So, where'd you release the check? >> I would not tell you the truth. >> So, let me ask you this. >> Yes, sir. >> What company was the other check from? >> What? What? I don't know. It's different companies. >> What did you do for to earn this check >> to this check? I contract delivered the equipment to the uh people. >> Where did you pick up the equipment in where I just come from? If I'm dead, I can't look at my itinerary. Uh, don't get me wrong. I really don't remember the name. >> Where you taking us at? >> Here. >> Orlando, Florida. >> Where? >> In a construction site. >> Where? >> Uh, I'll get my phone on. I can tell you the address. While you're looking for that, like I know I was standing there and some lady just randomly was texting you that she got your information right and she was asking you for if you can make the delivery. >> Yeah. >> Is that how this guy talked to you? >> Yeah, that's how >> Do you have the thread of talking to him? >> Where'd you meet this guy? >> I got it off Tribal. Hold on. Let me get off Tribal for you. >> What's Tribal? >> Tribal. That's a contracting app. >> Put your profile. >> Put your profile number of what you do and the jobs based off what you do. They call you and you get contracts. So you get the contracts and you go wherever they tell you to go. I ain't got scammed twice like I told him by the same dude. >> Same dude, right? So how do you talk to him? Usually he call me but >> calls you. >> Yeah, this this his number right here. >> You don't email him. You don't text him. >> Just calls. >> Yep. That's all he text me about. Uh >> call yesterday. >> So what did you bring from? What did you bring in? >> What you haul? >> What I just hauled today. >> What' you haul? >> Um it was a one of those long wall things that you put on the side walls for uh what's that? uh trailer house. You know the little things for the trailer houses? >> Mhm. >> The little uh the size of the walls. How you put them together? You know how you put all the walls together? I hauled the whole thing. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Okay. >> But I'm check. >> When did I just get this check? Probably like 3 hours ago. >> From who? >> From Texas. You said what again? >> You said he was in Texas. >> Yeah, but he listen where I go, they they got to fly out to talk to the people and get their money as well. >> So when they go fly out, they got to fly out wherever I'm at. >> Denver, Texas, dude. >> It's only phone calls. >> He won't let me text. >> Show me the phone call. >> I'm trying to show you right now. >> So you met this guy and he gave you the check. >> Yeah. His number >> 305. >> That's the number right here. >> What's his name? >> That you just tell me his name is Big Boy. >> Big Boy. That's all I get. >> Texas. >> Yep. I don't get a real name. >> How about the lady who do give me a real name? My name is Sheena. >> So, all you know what this dude named Big Boy, he writes bad checks. >> I don't believe it. But >> as >> what do you mean? >> As of today, >> he just showed me that was a bad This is my second bank. Hold on. I told you that that was a fraudulent check. >> Yeah. >> Well, if you see the check, that's a totally different check, sir. >> They told you it's a fraudulent check, >> but we don't know what the other one was. >> Yeah, that's what I'm telling you that the check is different. >> Was it a different company? >> Different color. The check was a different color. >> Telling you that the check is fraudulent. >> All right. So, look, let me tell you this. >> That's not going to raise your suspicions. >> It raised my suspicions with him, but once he paid me cash out, that didn't went out the window. So then we probably just didn't pay any cash for this time. >> That's wild. >> You said you Ubered here. >> Say it again. >> You said you Ubered here. >> Your phone working. Can you show me where your the Uber trip went back there? See, >> it's going to come back on. >> Said this guy came big boy came hand you a check. >> No, we didn't. Just came and hand me a check. Get a check for >> I had to Uber to him. Get the check and Uber. >> What did you mean to get the check? >> McDonald's. >> Which one? >> Where at? >> Dad, I don't know. I'm not from Florida, man. >> I can show you the address. >> Get the check when you deliver. Say it again. >> When did you get the check when you delivered it though? >> You said you delivered the stuff today and then you got paid. >> That's delivered and then you went back to the hotel and I didn't go to the hotel. I met him at McDonald's. >> Yeah. >> When I met him at McDonald, gave me the check, came directly here. So he you delivered the stuff today. >> But you did arrive at the hotel because you >> I just told you that my truck is too big to drive on this type of street. >> So where you leave it at? >> At the hotel. >> Yeah. So that means you delivered it. Went to the hotel, >> right? >> Yeah. >> But that's not what you just said. You said it didn't go to the hotel. >> All right. You're right. >> Come on, dude. >> Okay. Here's the deal now. All right. You already know the score. >> All right. That check's a fake. They've never heard of you. They've never dealt with any contractor. And does it make sense that a construction company would have to pull in a bunch of stuff from Texas to Florida? >> It don't make sense. >> And this big boy has the Florida check. >> And the second thing is this guy already wrote you a check which another bank told you was fraud. >> But you it doesn't matter. But they told you that's a different and you still kept dealing with this guy. I said, "Oh my god, different chick, sir." >> Okay. >> Let's Let's be honest. Okay. Let's be honest here. All right. Your story. There's a bunch of holes in it. Okay. >> All right. Let me just be honest with you. It's a fantast. There you go. So, what's next? >> So, Let's Let's get real. I appreciate you being honest here. Okay. >> I'm just tired. I didn't >> I'm with you. All right. All right. >> Who put you up to it? >> Myself. Can nobody make me do anything? >> You did make that decision. So, did you print the check? >> No, I didn't that I don't know where the checks come from. I can honestly tell you that. >> You get hooked up with the guy who gave you the check to go cash it. >> A girl that I was I was messing with. >> She was like they do checks and stuff like that. And >> what's her name? >> Her name is It's a weird name. It's uh um got to go to Facebook. >> You actually have a car out there. >> No, actually no car. >> I don't have a truck either. What did they have a truck? What they >> No truck? Not right now at the hotel. That's not >> all right. I'm just trying to get out of here, man. We appreciate you being honest. Okay. Great question. >> It is. >> Let's be straight with us. >> Yeah. >> What you What did they tell you to do with check? >> Just cast. >> What they say if you had any problems? >> Nothing. >> What was What was going to be your end of it? >> What if I after I cast the chip? >> I just get half of them. >> Half the check. >> Okay. This girl, she black, white, Spanish. >> Hispanic. >> She's Hispanic. Okay. All right, man. I know you kind of already told them what's going on. Um, I guess we'll start at the top since I just got here. If you can kind of explain to me what's going on. If I got some questions I ask you, go with that. >> Uh, yeah. >> Okay. >> Um, so what's the deal, man? Just tell me what's going on with all this. >> I came with the cash problem check. >> Okay. >> And then it >> Okay. Where'd you get the check from? >> That I don't get the check from anybody. They they mail it to me and I cash. >> Okay. So, they mail it to your house in Texas or >> Okay. Um, where the where's the mail coming from? >> Is it another one in Texas? >> I'm casting a check, sir. >> Okay. So, who do you pay after you cast a check? >> Uh, see, I pay a couple people. That's what I'm saying. >> Okay. How do you pay them? >> Cash. >> Cash. Where do you meet them, >> man? I probably pay Starbucks, McDonald's. >> Okay. said these people trust you with all this money throughout the entire time and then eventually you just go up and pay them cash. >> Yeah. What I'm going to run off for? They put me on the play. >> I agree with you there. They putting you on. What you going to run off for? Especially if it's been working for a little bit now, right? >> Yeah. >> How long you been doing it? >> About a year and a half now. >> Year and a half. Same dude. >> No, different. It's always different people too. >> Just different people. Just they just put you in contact with people. >> Sometimes I go back to the same people. It just all depends on if they play go through or if they going to put me in the situation like I am now. >> Gotcha. Yeah. I mean, if it works, I'll you you'll keep working for them and then if if it don't work me in this situation, I can you anymore. >> Okay. How many times you been arrested for cashing checks? >> Never. >> You never got arrested? >> Never. >> Okay. Why not? >> Well, I'm just saying like, have you ever encountered the police when you were cashing a check? >> So, would you say you put in a situation where situations like this would cause you to switch people? I'm just assuming that you would have encountered the police, which is why you moved to somebody different. >> I I keep got him. I got like I told them big boy and I got uh what's her name? Shen. >> Okay. >> Them the only two people I folks with. >> Okay. And they mail it to your house in Texas. >> Yep. Sometimes they either mail it or they'll bring it to >> Okay. And then who else is involved? They said that you got >> It's other people, but I don't know those people. I've never met those people, but they do have other people on the road. Yeah. Okay. So, they have other people on the road. You don't know who these people are. >> Never met them. You'll never meet them. That's just how they operate. >> Gotcha. The other people that you're working with essentially >> not working with >> the other people that are cashing checks for the same person. You never meet them. So, you don't even know what they look like. >> You They really don't even want you to meet them, but >> you got to pay them ticket. Then you going to have to meet them. >> Yeah. Cuz you got to pay them. So, eventually you got to meet them. So, um, did you cash one in Texas? >> No. >> Like in May? >> No, it didn't go through, but I've tried. >> Okay. So, you tried it? >> Of course, >> you tried it in May and it didn't go through. What? Do you remember the check? Was it an Advent Edge pharmacy check? >> I don't remember nothing. >> Actually, this is from 2022. >> See what I'm saying? His names. I don't remember. >> Yeah, this is about a year ago. I thought it was newer than that. And you don't know the people that that are doing it with you, right? >> No, I don't not I can't tell you nobody. I don't know nobody. They don't let us meet for this specific reason. >> Yeah, it makes sense. I mean, obviously you've been doing it for a while. So, it's not just it's not a little thing. It's a bigger It's a bigger ordeal. So, they know how to operate. That's clearly um You ever seen that guy before? No, >> no, I don't know who that is. Honestly, I don't know who that is. >> I'm just curious cuz that's the same check, right? >> It looks like the same. >> At least same people. >> Yeah, it looks >> 394108. >> 394108. >> Oh, check the amount. >> Is that the same check that I got? >> I to be honest, I don't even have your check. I don't know where your check is at. >> You showing me the wrong check. We should be showing >> No, no. I'm showing you this guy to ask if you know who he is. I'm not too worried about the check right now. >> I don't know who it is. >> Okay. >> All right. And you say you got here by Uber? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Can you show me the Uber transport here? >> I told you I didn't even book my Uber for myself. >> They book your Uber for you? >> I don't do nothing. I'm going to pay nothing. Z, >> hang out. >> Uber picks you up and go home. How much money have you made doing this so far? >> What today? >> So far, like in a year and a half, have you been doing it? >> Oh, I don't know. >> I'm just curious, man. See how much money you making cuz I I might be in the wrong career. >> Quite a few books. >> Like thousands. Hundreds of thousands. >> Thousands. That's not I wish you hundreds of thousands. >> Well, I speak to 6,000 7. No, but that's just that week though. Yeah. >> But is that a good week? >> That's why I said quite a few. I ain't made no 100,000. No, I ain't made it there 30. >> So a good week is 67,000 or is that like a mediocre week? >> That's like a mediocre week. >> Okay. So, and then you say you make 600 7,000. That means >> I don't do this every week. I just do this when I need it. So if I been on the road and I come off and I hit real good, I won't do it for a long ass time. >> Yeah. Cuz you you go broke. I need the money. Man, you back at it. >> Back at it. >> So, this is your your job. You don't do anything else? >> No, this is your last. I'm not doing >> No, I'm just saying like work. >> Oh, you do tattoos? >> Yeah, I tattoo some shops >> in Texas. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um All right. So, you got here by Uber. You don't know just Big Boy. You gave him You gave them Big Boy's number, right? >> If you saw Big Boy again, would you be able to identify him? You know who he is? >> Yeah. Okay. How long you known Big Boy? Year and a half. >> Yeah, I only seen him probably once or twice. >> You've only seen him once or twice, >> maybe? >> So, all the other times you're doing business with the girl? >> Yeah, she just >> What's her phone number on? >> That see I ask a lot of questions, bro.
