They have they making the the prevention monitor. >> Hey, how about talk to us over here before we go in? >> So, how long has this been happening? >> Well, I find out today, but the loss proation manager, he's been checking and he came today with a folder with all the data she been stealing with with the day with the camera and all the information. And they got a photo for you guys and they making the interview right now. >> How much money is it so far? >> If I tell you, I can be wrong, but he was sending almost more than $1,500. >> 1,500. You guys pressing charges? >> I guess. Yes. >> You guess and the money at the store, but I'm not the one that conducting the >> Oh, the LPO's in there. >> Yes. Yeah. She's right now inside with the employee and the district money. They're waiting for you guys. >> You mean some cooperative? >> I came out from the office. Nothing. They call. Yeah. I don't know nothing what's going on right now. >> They just sent me a text message. Okay. >> Okay. Sorry. >> He didn't say she admitted to it, did she? I don't think so. >> Is he on something else? He's on another 56 with um Dennis. Uh this is store 93 international drive 5295. >> Can we speak up? >> Yes sir. >> Good. How are you? >> Good to meet you with asset protection. Um uh so the situation I have is um I have the state of Florida. I review exceptional reports and so on. We have an exceptionary report called a midvoid report that shows whenever somebody may be uh voiding a sale and keeping the cash instead of actually returning it. And here customers give money and they just go and that's what she was doing. She started uh December 10th and on December 19th she conducted her first fraudulent uh midvoid. Okay. >> Uh I observed that and I've been sampling all the way through. We turned and I had a packet put together for you here uh that there was a total of 2023 but when I took out the ones that were legitimate the total was 1423. Yes. >> And I have I have a packet for you. Um I can burn all the video. I know that sometimes you all give it to a detective and then I >> No, that's us. >> Okay, great. Okay, thank you. So um >> and you call you call it a midvoid? >> Uh it's called a a midvoid. Yes. So basically they they ring the register and before they hit total the customer gives them the cash and they walk away. All they have to do is hit midvoid. It cancels the sale. They can keep the cash. >> Okay. >> But it does capture that there was a midvoid that occurred. I then would watch the customer come up, watch the cash exchange, watch the drawer not open. Customer walks away and either conceal it under the drawer in the pocket or whatever. And I have at least 15 or 20 sample videos that I saved on that. for this. >> I'm sorry. >> Call for her. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. What is her What is her name? >> Her name is Laoya Luster. L U S T E R. >> She is uh expecting in April. This is She disclosed this to me. Um she's been very cooperative, very apologetic. She said that she has a 17-year-old daughter, but they're homeless uh and that uh she was stealing money in order to take care of them. I tend to believe her. She seems to be very believable. Uh so, you know, I have a heart. I feel bad for her, but I have a job I have to do and we pretty much prosecuted over $500. So, um, >> so you do want to prosecute. >> We do want to prosecute under the circumstances. I don't know what your protocol is. If you feel that you can you must appear or release her or whatever that would be out, so we can do no >> whatever whatever you all need to do. Uh, I'm I'm just want you know her to be obviously treated as best as she can under her circumstances, but that's where we're at right now. >> Okay. Can you >> She's writing a statement. So, >> okay. Um, somebody for your store writing a statement yet? >> Uh, I have not written the statement, but I can. >> You can. Um, can you give me the date? >> Uh, date of the first. The first offense would have been on uh December 19th. Last offense on 125 or excuse me, 25. >> So, first last and then you gave it December 10th. What was the December 10th? >> December 10th is her start date >> when she started working here. >> Yes, sir. Yes, ma'am. I'm sorry. No, you're fine. >> And what I did was I made up a little like a paragraph summary of what I just told you. And I actually included some screenshots. Uh I know that in a lot of cases, um you know, I can go back later and I can take everything from my computer, put on a thumb drive and send it to you and I have those with me right now. >> I can give you um I can either give you a link and you can actually upload all that to our link and it goes directly into it. >> It'll take a lot of lot of lot of stuff. >> Yeah. And if it if you need more like it I think it I think it accepts like 20 like videos and still pictures or whatnot. Um you can I can give you another link and then so I'll give you my information then you can contact me. Um >> I did not enter into a restitution agreement. We usually do that under 500. Uh she said yeah if I'm given an opportunity to pick it up but I didn't do that cuz I know that that can cause a conflict if I enter into that a lot of times. Is this is that a fact in Florida? >> Um I don't know. I'm still learning the whole area. Um, but you just have to let me know what we like. I'll talk to my I can talk to my sergeant, talk to my partner um for anything that you guys are willing to do because if you're wanting to do a restitution um with an agreement, but again that becomes I believe it's a it's >> then it becomes civil. >> Yeah. And then and then if she decides to pay him back for 500, we just let the courts do what they that's perfectly fine. >> That's why I didn't enter into >> and it comes a point to where you you can only feel bad for somebody for so much. But she, you know, >> don't get me wrong, I'm not bleeding her. I've been doing this for a long time, but um maybe it's because I'm a grandfather now. I don't know. >> You know, I get that. You have a heart, you have you compassion. Absolutely. God dang 17y old and especially when you know you you know the difference when they're not when they're not BSing it. I was like, "God dang." You know, I just feel bad for people's circumstance. But anyway, we have to prosecute. >> That's totally understandable. Um let me go get you started on a statement if and then I'll go in and speak with her. Um and then we'll go about it. >> Okay. All right. So, give me a minute. Let me grab a seat. No, you just bar and then I'll have she finishing her statement. Okay, I'll be in a minute. You have a license? So my sergeant said that we're not um you if you're pressing charges that's fine. You guys can still do the restitution if you choose to but if you do the restitution in lie of the pressing charges that's >> no we're not we want to prosecute uh but we don't want cuz so if we do restitution then we can't prosecute. Correct. >> Um it would make it sound like >> yeah you're you're putting yourself at risk of civil because it turns at all civil. Yes ma'am. Yeah. And my boss basically said, "No, if you going to if we prosecute over 500, we'll just let the courts get them. We can don't need the money down." So, >> the company's getting absolutely hammered and we've got to start making sure. >> Yeah. Well, definitely. Because that's the thing is if they think they can get away with it, they're going to keep telling their friends, whatever. >> So, it is. >> So, um their employee that started on December 10th, >> okay, >> um was working here. She made her first fraudulent um midvoy transaction on December 19th. She slept on 12. Okay, she's back there with right now. I haven't read her or anything. I guess I you guys are something else. Sorry. Um and then her last um was February 5th of the midvoid. So what the midvoid is is customer is making a return >> that register right there. That's what she does. >> So they're turning in money um for a product, right? Correct. Um and then the customer then pretty much leaves. She before she even um opens the door, she um clicks the sale. So it shows that the money was returned, but the money the door never opens >> as if they forgot their wallet. They just turn and walk. Okay. >> And so the money never gets put in the >> copies of the screen. I have not only transactions, but I also have screenshot and I've got 15 or 20 sample videos which I'll have to burn send to your file. I was going to give him a link for so um >> the total amount of uh successful midw transactions is 1423. So rant um they she is 6 and 1/2ish months pregnant. Um he has compassion but at the same time he said the store >> needs to put the foot down. Um and >> she claims she was homeless and then that her 17-year-old daughter's walking around out here that she stole the money for uh hotels and food. That's why she >> like they want to prosecute. So, um, I spoke to Sarge cuz I didn't know you were open, but I just wanted to verify everything would be good to sell to make 105. Um, so she said, "Yep, >> I have a gentleman that has the the overview what uh officer just said there a little bit with some pictures with all the transactions and then once that gets gets assigned or whatever, I can then send you all a thumb drive where I can uplink that to your cloud." >> And her name is Latoya. Like I said, I haven't I haven't met with her dogs with her. I'll head back there. I was just getting him started. >> No, I'll talk to her. >> Okay, perfect. [Music] Thank you. >> Thank you. >> You guys all the rundown? >> Yeah. >> How we go? >> You mind if I talk to her? >> Yeah, go ahead. >> Hello. Are you Latoya? >> All right. I'm just going to read something off for you real quick. Okay. >> You have the right to remain silent. talking for you. >> Do you understand your rights? >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, what happened? >> Me and my daughter is homeless and I was taking cash to feed us and and keep us like a shelter and stuff like that. I I admitted to everything. >> I'm I'm pregnant. >> Understand? >> We um sometimes we sleep on the steps. >> Mhm. Well, well, the hotel we at this hotel. >> So, how how are you taking money? >> Like sometimes they overpay me, I take it, put it in my pocket. >> Okay. >> Or >> who who would overpay you? >> The customer. >> The customer. They they want to ask for change or >> No, they don't ask for change. Or sometimes I um I bought out a ticket. It don't be like it don't be it be like 20 bucks or something like that just to feed us for that night and stuff like that >> or whatever. But >> how many times do you believe you've done this? He said he said it started in December, but I we didn't we didn't um we didn't start sleeping on the bench until I I said January, but he said I don't remember taking anything in December, but I I was honest to the whole thing. I mean, I took it >> cuz this is a statement you're writing for them. >> Yes, ma'am. It's Latoya, correct? So, the total was for $1,495. >> That's what he he said. >> You You believe it? Most likely. >> I know. I wasn't keeping up with anything. >> Okay. >> Nothing. I was If we needed something to eat, I just I just looked at them food. >> So, what what's going on with your daughter? >> Nothing. We stay together. We just >> Yes, sir. >> No, I just need a fold that you need to make. >> You You can pick whatever you need. >> Yes, sir. >> We We stay together for just a few. >> So, what what brought on the hardship? >> Uh we were staying we had a place and I I end up losing the place or whatever. Um and then I got pregnant. So we were staying with somebody and they told us we had to leave. >> Mhm. >> So we uh moved to the hotel and stuff. You know hotels sometime they get high and stuff like that. So and then by me being pregnant and stuff so I just do the best I could. >> Okay. How old is your daughter? >> My daughter is 17. >> 17. Oh, another resources to reach out for. >> I did. I reached out to them and stuff. My doctors gave me resources or whatever, but um the they say they over booked and stuff. So, I I did I reached out to them like it it wasn't my opinion. >> Okay. >> So, how many times do you believe you taking money over over the span of what from December till now? He he said to come if it started this and I don't I didn't say anything. The only thing it started was I thought it started um after the 31st. My first time this >> after the 31st of December. >> Uhhuh. Um we didn't have nowhere to sleep. >> What's the most you've taken in like one period of time? >> Uh it it usually be just like 20 bucks here, 20 bucks there >> throughout a shift. You might do it multiple times. Okay. >> I mean, for 1,400 that that adds up if you're taking it at 20, you know, $20. >> That's how he said they added it up and stuff like that. But >> that's that's I know that's what I take. Like I kind of >> And when when did you start again? December. >> I don't remember when it start. I think 12th 14th and stuff like that. >> Okay. >> Oh. Well, let me talk to the manager and I'll come back. Okay. You mind saying any questions for me? >> She was in I just let you know she uh she's in coming from a tough situation and she was she immediately she stopped me and mentioned she said look I did it. I'll tell you what you need to do about it. if there's these are all the layouts of the midvoids transactions. >> It's short and sweet. So if I could I'm going to say this to you in presence of the officers. I can't tell her what to say, but I'd like to qualify something on here. See, she wrote to 1495. She could make that into a dollar sign so we know what that means. And then have her line here so that nobody can add to this statement. That means it's concluded. And then she needs to sign it. It's only done through cash, right? >> Is >> it all fall under one? >> It's all going to fall under one >> regardless. >> Okay. >> It'd be slightly different if you had six or seven different reports and then you put it all into one >> due to the fact you already have all the transactions all all combined on there. >> It's all reported today. >> So, here's what happens. So, um, you come up a lot. This is 1995. Hey, how you doing? Never credit. I'll cash this. 1995. That'd be 1995, sir. And then, um, >> perfect. You want to make a copy of this? Do you need the original or would you like the copy of that? >> You can make a copy. Keep me the original. >> Do we even need one of their witness? Yeah, we don't even need one. >> So, what you see on video is um, and more. We can actually read one queued up if you want to see it. it comes up 1995 and they she's they say that'll be 1995. The customer will give them a lot of times 20 or $19.95 in cash. >> Most of them in here are kind of they don't they don't want the 5 cents. They don't care. So she would push the bag to them and then she would kind of delay and if they turn and walk away they have not even hit how much they gave her. She hits midvoid that sale is null and void as if they went I don't have my money. Drawer never pops open. they go off with it and into the pocket. >> Yes, sir. And so that happened. So in some cases, they gave exact change. I don't want the receipt. In other cases, they didn't. She'd say, "Don't worry about the extra amount." And they would go off. And I saw her put them under the keyboard, under the drawer, in her pocket. She did it a number of different ways, basically. So that's how that's how you take their midwood. It's a very easy way to take cash. >> Uh, no. I'll take that from you. Uh, is there a way I can pull it back to get her out the back or do I have to bring her throughout the front? >> We would uh for to to make it easier and we can absolutely just uh disconnect the detects around the back and have you come around the back? Absolutely. Hey, Oscar, >> do you want me to get her identified or do you want to do it since you talk? >> Yeah, it's not going to be right now. It's >> going to go to jail. Can I please call my daughter? >> Um, you'll have a phone call at the jail and so you'll be able to call from there. Do you need me to write down a number or something for you? Is that >> phone? >> I'm sorry. >> Yeah. Do you have a phone in here? >> Oh, you have your phone? >> All right. Is that the number? >> Probation officer. >> Your probation officer. You're Are you on probation for what? Um, it was for um driving without license. >> Driving without license. >> You don't have it. >> I thought I had Is that your jacket as well? Can you just hold your hand like this for me? >> You going to search for it, right? >> Yeah. I don't have anything like cigarettes. Have you stand up? Go ahead and [Music] your pockets that you have. Never mind. Just stand still. in here. Just drop it in. Just tell me. >> I'm just going to put this over here. I'm very sorry about everything but basing the second time in a long >> second person I got over here. >> I'm going to push you. Well, we'll let her talk to you in a minute. We just don't want to make us out here. My daughter, >> your which one? Your backpack. >> All right. Yeah, the backpack's going to go with her daughter. >> Okay. >> So, just leave it out of the car. >> Just give me one second. >> Okay. Can she come out here? >> No, you're not able to talk to You want to just take it since I >> Everything can go to the daughter. >> Okay. >> Except for my cell phone. >> Yeah, except your cell phone. Hey, can just take the cell phone out of there? >> Can I say just one sec? He's going to talk to her real quick. But she said everything go to you. >> You set up. I just don't lower the window. >> The phone, right? >> Um yeah, she won't take the phone with her, she said. So yeah. You said it's on your phone. >> Yes. >> Get her phone out. She needs to grab her social from there. >> That's why he's speaking. >> Look, he's getting our phone. No problem. >> Here you're working for the grandma. >> I have to call you from the um the jail house. Um just just come get I mean the room is Thursday, but just come get her and bring her to the jail and stuff like that. What time? >> Okay, go back to the room. All right, you ready to go? >> I'mma call you when I hit you. Okay, go back to the room. >> Right now, we're only working to signal 50. >> She was charged with grand theft. She was sentenced to 2 days in jail, 24 months of probation, and ordered to pay $1,433 in restitution. Thanks for watching. Be sure to subscribe for more videos like this.
