Stop the car. Stop the car. Delta. Delta Romeo Golf. He's fleeing south. South south from Beachland. It's a blue Toyota four-door elderly gentleman tan jacket. You >> good, sir? >> Yeah, I'm good. Go. He just came out onto Beachland from uh >> Cardinal. I saw that guy. That was ridiculous. >> He hit me with his car twice. >> All right. So, I had this guy stopped here. I had runners coming and he decided he wanted plow to go left. So, I stopped him and so he stopped in the middle of an intersection and kept insisting on going. So I told him to back up. He was refusing and he was like, "Well, I that's not good enough reason." I said, "I need you to back up cuz I'm telling you to." So he decided that he wasn't going to back up. He was going to stop. So I stood in front of him, told him to stop and then he inched forward and bumped me with his car once. So then I went around the side and he just sat there and he wasn't looking at me. So I went around back to front to get his attention, slamming on the hood and he pulled over again and hit pulled forward again to hit me again. And then finally at that point I went around the side, demanded that he get out. And then all of a sudden he backed up and started doing a U-turn, pushing me along with his car, and then did a U-turn and left. And I punched the window, the driver side window to try to gain access, but that was foolish cuz obviously that's not going to break. And then he fled and went turned right on Acacia. >> So he bumped me twice with his car, pushed me with it. >> And where's our witness? >> Right there. And you're okay? >> I'm okay. I'm good. I was giving a statement, please. >> Either you're in >> and then attack when anybody is able. Either you're going to get in the vehicle or you're going to get forced in. Okay? You don't get a choice in the matter. So, either you can comply, get in the vehicle, or we're going to push you into the vehicle. You're probably not going to like that just how how we pulled you out of the car. So, make a decision now. Are you going to get in or you going to get put in? Then he started going again. He walked over to him, said, "Get out of the car." The guy wouldn't refuse to get out of the car. Then he backed up. The driver backed up like he was going to do a Uturn onto Ocean Drive, >> which wouldn't driven into our pedestrians, causing a great danger to their safety. >> Sebastian gets in front of the car again, and the guy attempts to run him over. Sebastian literally was like this being ran over by this guy's car according to two witnesses and Sebastian. >> Okay. >> Um so his battery was a deadly weapon on a LEO. >> So I'm going to Aacia A1A. They said now he's on >> he meant the Zelia. He was flustered. He was looking at a Zelia saying that's that's where the disconnect was. >> I don't but I can get it. And then as Matt comes up, he just he decides he know I'm not getting out of the car, I open the car door. I said, "Please step out. Step out." Matt comes. Um at that point, >> I went around the passenger side. >> He goes, he goes, "Get away." Puts the car back in drive. Says, "Get away. I'm going to hit you and spit on you." At that point, I go inside, put the car in park, and then we undo a seat belt and just take him out. I went on the passenger side, pushed, and he pulled. >> Did anybody get a statement from him? >> No, I haven't even heard of Miranda yet. I just >> He's not. >> Is he drunk? >> Like, you could say >> I don't think she was drunk. I didn't smell any alcohol. >> Is he born at 34? I think >> I'm going to interview him in a minute. I just wanted to get all >> Yeah, I don't know what his deal is. I think that puts him at 90. He wanted to go somewhere and that's determined of wherever he was going. I'm surprised he didn't pull his gun out. All right, sir. I'm going to read you something. All right. These are your Miranda warnings. Okay. So, I need you to just pay attention and listen. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. >> You got that just right. >> Okay. >> Cuz I know it. >> Okay. I'm going to Let me finish and then I'll let you speak. Okay. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> I knew them before. >> Okay. With these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to me now? Sure. >> Okay. What what what happened here today, man? What? Why did you >> Can I first ask what's your name? >> Bernard. >> Bernard. Okay. >> I just want to know who I'm talking to so I can refer to you by name. Okay. >> What's your name? >> I'm Corporal Jennifer Brum. >> Okay. >> Okay. Bernard, what what happened here today, man? What's going on? Why did you an officer from what I understand told you to stop and you continue to go against his order? >> Yeah, because I couldn't understand why he told me to stop to stop. >> Okay, but if an officer is telling you to stop, why why would you keep going? >> Beats me. >> Okay. What um what did you do? Did you almost Did you hit that officer? Did you >> Absolutely not. >> Absolutely not. Okay. Why is that officer >> You didn't hit him with his with your vehicle. Hell no. All right. >> You absolutely did. You hit him multiple times with your vehicle, Bernard. There were several witnesses who even said as much. You absolutely hit that officer with your vehicle. Multiple times, refusing to stop, refusing to get out of your car, then did a Uturn and moved him down the road while he was trying to stop your car. Is that all you've got to say? >> No. I'm curious why you think it's okay to hit a police officer with your vehicle, sir. >> I'm shocked to be honest with you, >> Corporal Brumley. >> Yes. >> I don't understand why you're saying that. >> What don't you understand? Tell me what part and I'll be happy to explain it to you. >> Never mind. I'm going to finish. Um, Bernard, so so what happened in this situation? Why is this officer saying that you tried to strike him WITH THE VEHICLE? >> AH. OH, these handcuffs are just killing. >> I'm sorry, sir. We adjusted them. They're handcuffs. They're uncomfortable. I I don't I can't really do anything about that at this time. What? So So why did you continue to keep going if he's even telling you to stop? You said you don't know. You don't understand. Was it a confusion thing? >> Yeah, I was very confused. Why would he tell me to stop? >> Because there's a run going on today and there's a lot there's a lot of people out on the road participating in this event. That's why these officers are >> public safety. >> So that's why we have these officers at intersections trying to stop that. All right. Even when he told you to stop, you should have just stopped. >> You're saying you didn't try to hit him on purpose? >> Oh, absolutely. >> Okay. Then why didn't you stop the vehicle when you told me? >> Can I talk to you for a sec? >> All right. Well, I don't have anything else to talk to him if that's the case. Um >> Yeah. I mean, >> I have nothing else. The only reason I said it Yo, no, that's what I'm No, he's going. I'm just trying to figure out what his deal is. I don't understand. >> Yeah. I I I suspect and and I'm going to get his wife. >> Okay. Bernard, who's home at your home? Where do you live? >> I live in a condo. Uh, yeah, you can call there. My wife may be back from her walk at this time. >> Okay, just sit tight for now. All right. >> Why? >> Because you're going to jail. >> What? >> Yes, you were under arrest. >> For what? >> For aggravated battery on an LEO. >> On a what? on a law enforcement officer. You struck a law enforcement officer with your vehicle multiple times. >> Ah, that's just nuts. >> And you're also going for resisting because you refuse to get out of the vehicle when he told you multiple times to get out of the vehicle. So, you have any questions for me before we go? >> Yeah. Why are you doing this? >> Because you hit a officer with your with your vehicle. >> That's a bunch of baloney. >> You did. The officer is here. You struck an officer with your vehicle multiple times. Ah, >> okay. So, >> are you going to release these handcuffs? >> Uh, when we get to the jail, you're going to jail. >> Call my wife. >> We are. I have an officer. We're trying to get in contact with her now. It is a felony. Just let you know. >> What's your wife's name? >> Barbara. And she may be back from the walk. And if you explain what's going on to her, she'll take real action. >> What kind of action will she What will she do? >> She'll call an attorney. >> Okay. >> Um, yeah. Well, we will be calling your wife. What's her phone number? >> Her phone number? >> Uh-huh. >> What's your phone number? >> No, that's our landline. >> Okay. >> Ah. Oh. Ow. Oh. >> Has he been searched? Oh, yeah. I've been searched. All right. >> What's your date of birth, Bernard? >> Don't forget that. It's coming up not too long. And I did have a twin brother, but he died. Ah, >> he was charged with aggravated battery, assault, reckless driving, resisting without violence, and eluding police. Thanks for watching.
