Bernalillo County deputies responded to
a call at an Amazon Prime Warehouse in
Albuquerque New Mexico of reports of an
employee had stolen some high priced
items while working
Alex Barrett was caught by security
cameras pocketing some Electronics while
working his shift
yeah
yeah if it hits it out over time
and then the cream starts breaking
that's how it kind of chips

I didn't do the interview or the
investigation that I can walk you

um got everything on a platform
yesterday this is going to be the
subject okay this is the case summary
with everything that we identified
um case initiated yesterday with um uh
Apple AirWatch uh that was missing okay
we were investigating it
responsible for it so what do you do is
you reach inside a
pod pick the item out rip the package
open and conceals it in his pocket I see
and then
um
we were waiting for him to come in today
he wasn't working last night
um uh or at least when we initiated the
case expanded the investigation
by two additional best with him taking
uh the Beats okay
two-person beats actually I see
um
and I got the video and I can show you
guys the uh yeah Apple watch
is he here now yeah he's actually
writing a statement okay during the
course of the interview he's admitted to
uh taking three boxes of uh Apple airpod
Pros in addition to what we have
uh he's providing a voluntary statement
uh he does have one of the uh items on
him now at his workstation so I can
actually get a manager to bring his
backpack down and everything
um so we'll recover those items today or
at least the one item that he does have
on him uh and then he also hi there how
are you merchandise
uh profit
so we had himself

he he advised that there's another
I'm calculating it right now
really it's uh he did tell us about the
beads
a 468 plus the 700. I see 100 right now
okay and he's he wrote us a statement
he uh sold it to a friend and then his
friends
that's going to be the Apple AirWatch
that he just picked
I'll roll it back for you so did he set
it aside no so the process how it works
they pick an order for a customer from
the pod
they put it in this tote and then that
goes down to a pack station to be packed
for to fulfill for a customer order so
he's actually in the process of picking
right now and uh he senses inside the
tube uh before he actually sends that
tote down the line he'll actually rip
the package open so that item never
actually makes it to its destination
um and that's how we get it we get a
pretty much like a variance report that
this item went missing he was picked by
him but he had no other touch points
after him and that's when we initiated
yesterday
to figure out what happened to the
missing product is he unaware he's being
filmed they're all aware every station
has a camera and they're visible too
they're dropped down right in front of
their station but they have a yellow toe
where they're at as you can see they put
their hands in the toe thinking they're
hiding it from the camera but we're
trained to observe that watch obviously
do it every day so he also told us about
the other things that he didn't do does
is there a chance that they that they
know what's in what package yes oh yeah
so these are clearly marked so it'll say
Apple watch I see
um okay so so his behavior right there
just kind of lingering in the bin is not
like what he's doing right what he's
doing right there
what he's doing right there no there's a
separating alert signal so he's staging
the item the entire time yeah like maybe
separating like what I want from what
needs to stay in the band
a lot of videos no I mean it's important
that like I observe
like what he's doing
bad is there anyway we could uh
deputies go in there I mean that's going
to be their call because they'll they'll
do their process
who knows what he has on him oh he
already told me he has the other stuff
upstairs too
we did observe him on video or something
that's important
but you'll have another associate come
over and the assistant will reach in his
pocket and then they'll do a
hand-to-hand deal so I mean there could
be drugs involved
um
this is Apple watch yeah this is the
Apple watch
so I I can definitely opened that
package but he didn't I didn't like
notice him take anything out of it it
takes him a second as it gets towards
the end of the video
um
he'll reach back in there he takes a
while working that package yeah um he's
back at it now it looks like he's
working it some more
yeah this is just the uh watch right now
not the beads oh yeah yeah
it is like
I know it's kind of irrelevant to you
guys but like if he is he lagging in his
duties like is he taking longer than he
should be to like perform these duties
because he's messing with this yeah so
they're in a rated function again
um
they're rated and it'll show like their
operations manager

dwell time in between from picking an
item to going into the toe
um
so every time they pick an item they'll
drop into the tote hit the button and
that pretty much restarts the clock for
them so I'm not sure what is they get
what they call it did he set it I think
he put it underneath yeah
he pulled something out the package he
tosses underneath the bin okay
because he bent down right there and it
looked like he he put something let down
low
and unfortunately we have a cleaning
crew that cleans 24 7 around here so
they go they wouldn't think anything of

like uh maybe 10 or 12 seconds yeah

something underneath in a second here

he's tampered with that package I mean
to my to my site at least three

right there and now he puts it in the
pocket no he'll he puts something
underneath first see oh oh he didn't put
it over there
this is a long white box they come in a
box like this about 14 15 inches so I
think we're come probably coming up on

um so we do that every year
walking through how we prosecute cases
and what the process looks like from
start to finish and the evidence that we

that way we're aligned and we're
providing as much information to
successfully prosecute a case or submit
a case or prosecution versus not having
enough evidence or yeah that's not going
to hold them in quarter of the DNA
challenge
a case that we're attempting to
prosecute and we we have a certain
threshold too from a leadership
perspective and Company perspective that
we prosecute cases so they think over
250 will typically prosecute we don't do
like the 25 that you see a lot of
organizations do or yeah like Walmart
and things like that so
um
