Now, you were at a frat party tonight. >> No, I wasn't, but I like stayed there for a while. >> Okay. >> There was no party, but like I just like stayed there. >> Okay. So, you said you had one drink about 700 p.m. >> Yeah. >> So, you haven't had anything more recent than that? >> No. >> Okay. Well, what I want to do is I want to make sure that you're safe to drive this vehicle. >> Yeah. Fine. The way I can do that is uh there's a few things I walk you through, a few tests I have you do. Are you willing to do that? >> Yeah, of course. Okay. Um, have you had any recent head injuries? >> No. >> Okay. Do you wear contacts? >> I do. >> Okay. Do you have them in? >> I do. >> They're the Are they the soft kind or the hard kind? >> I don't I wear I wear a 4.5 zero. >> Okay. I think they're the soft contact. They don't even make the uh >> Yeah, I have like I have pretty bad eyesight. So, >> all right. Well, turn towards me. Uh, >> just put your feet together. I'm just >> Do you want to do you want to hold my keys? >> I'll just set them down right here for now. So, all I'm going to do right now is I'm just going to look at your eyes. Okay? >> All right. >> I'm going to have you just put your feet together. Put your arms at your side. Stay just like that. Okay. >> Okay. >> Putting that there so I don't lose it. All right. Just follow my pen with your eyes and your eyes only. Keeping your head still. Okay. >> Okay. >> No, just your head. Just your eyes. Yeah. Just move your eyes. >> Yeah. Just move your eyes. I'm just making sure they follow together. All right. That's all I'm doing is making sure they follow together. Okay. Just like that. Just keep your head still. Just move your eyes. Okay. >> All right. >> Try to keep your head still. I know it's hard. Just move your eyes. >> Sorry. It's all right. It's It's instincts. >> I know. Just move your eyes. It's fine. Just your eyes. There you There you go. All right. Straight up. Head down. Head down. That's fine. Sorry. Just >> All right. One more time. All right. You have any problem with your knees, ankles, anything like that? Can you walk a straight line? >> Yeah, I can walk a straight line. Sure. >> Okay. So, what I'm going to >> I sprained my ankle like seven times, but >> But do you have generally trouble walking a straight line? >> No. >> Okay. What I want you to do is I want you to Let's back up like a few steps. >> Yeah, of course. >> All right. Right there is good. >> Okay. >> For now, what I want you to do, you're not actually going to walk yet, but you're going to pretend there's a line in front of you. Okay? There's not, but you can pretend. Okay? You're going to take your left foot, put it on a line, and take your right foot in front of it, touching heel to toe, and arms at your side, and stop. So for now, just get in the position. So left foot down, right foot in front of it, heel to toe, just like this. Stay like that. Okay. Put your arms at your side. Put your right foot in front. Can you do like I'm doing? >> Yeah. I just have really bad coordination, but I'm trying to be like fun. >> Okay. Do you you don't have to do this. Do you want to try it or not? >> Well, what do you mean I don't have to do it? >> I you you don't have to do this. I'm just asking. I mean, if you don't think you can do this, it's your choice. >> No, I can do it. I just have bad coordination. But what do you mean I don't have to do it? >> You don't have to do this. You don't have to do what I'm asking you to do. These are voluntary. So what I'm saying is if you don't think you can do this, you don't have to. >> No, I can do it. I'm just saying like I'm like not coordinated. >> Okay. Well, that's fine. A lot of people aren't. So take your left foot, le put your right foot in front of it, >> heel to toe, and stay just like that. Okay. >> So when I ask you to uh Yeah, just like that. But no, don't start yet. Oh, sorry. Sorry. Sorry. >> So, for now, >> leave your left foot where it is. Take No, let leave your left foot where it is. >> Sorry. >> Take your right foot, put in front of it. >> Hill toe. Stay just like that. Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, watch what I do. I'm going to ask you to take nine hill toe steps down this line. Uh, turn like I show you. Take nine hillto toe steps back. It's going to look like this. One, two, three. Except you go all the way to nine. After your ninth step, use your back foot to make a series of small steps and turn yourself around and then take nine steps back the other direction. As you do this, you need to watch your feet, count out loud, keep your arms at your side, and don't stop walking at any time. >> Can I tie my shoe now that you asked me? >> Yes, you can tie your shoe. >> Well, this one's easier to tie. This is a little bit This is a little bit embarrassing to admit, but I think it's cool when I have untied shoes. So, give me >> Okay, that's fine. >> I put it through. >> Well, this one's going to have to go inside because All right. >> Okay. Here. Hold on. Let me Let me put this in so you at least don't trip on basically the end of the shoe. It can't go in the hole because it's like straight. >> Okay. Well, I'm going to show you this one more time since we took a little break. Okay. You got to get in the position. Leave your left foot where it is. Take your right foot and put it in front of it touching heel to toe. Arms at your side. Stay just like that. You're going to take nine heel to toe steps down. Turn like I show you. Nine back. One, two, three, except you walk all the way to nine. After the ninth step, leave your front foot where it is. Move your back foot and make a serious small step. Turn yourself around and take nine steps back the other direction. Watch your feet. Count out loud. Keep your arms at your side. Don't stop at any time. Do you understand? >> All right, I'm down. >> Do you understand? >> Of course I understand. >> Do you understand? Go ahead. >> Count. >> Wait. I'm counting >> out loud. >> Yes. >> All right. You >> You want to start again? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> One. No, I was counting a lot. All right. Ready? >> Left foot on the line. >> One, two. >> Arms at your side. >> Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. >> Am I supposed to keep going? >> Yeah. Turn like I showed you. >> Oh, sorry. >> Take nine steps back the other direction. >> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. >> Okay, that's fine. >> All right, come over here. One more thing. Uh, you think you can balance on one foot? >> Yeah, I can. >> Okay. I'm going to show you. This is the one last thing I'm going to ask you to do. Okay. >> Can I Can I do my left foot on the lefty? >> You can do whichever one you want. So, >> so for now, just put your arms together down. Feet arms stay just like that. When I ask you to, not yet, but when I ask you to, I'm going ask you to pick one of your feet. Doesn't matter which one. You're going to pick it up. You're going to hold it about 6 in off the ground like this. You're going to look at your toe and you're going to count 1,00 1,002 1003 so on and so forth. You see what I'm doing? You see about how and then you're going to keep counting. Not yet. Not yet. >> So, like I said, I'm going to tell you when to begin. So, just watch what I'm doing. Okay? You'll pick one of your feet. 1,00 1,002 1,003 1,004 so on and so forth. Arms at your side. Now, if you happen to put your foot down, you just pick it up and keep going. Okay. You think you can do that? >> Of course. Okay, you count out loud. Watch your feet. Keep your arms at your side. Okay, hold on. I'll tell you when to go and you go. You you you keep it up there until I tell you to stop. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. You ready? Get in the ready position. All right. Begin. >> 1,00 1,002 100,00 Okay. Keep going. >> What am I going What number am I going to? >> Till I tell you to stop. >> Okay. 1007 1008 1009 123 1 1400 >> All right, >> that's fine. >> 1000 156 2017 19 >> Hey, so so you told me before that you only had one what was the one drink you had about 7:00? >> I had a high noon about 7:00. >> Okay. And that's all you've had? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Based on what I'm seeing, what I'm smelling from your breath, I I don't believe that to be true. Okay. I I do think you've drank too much to be safely operating a vehicle. Okay. So, with that being said, I am going to place you under arrest for DUI. Okay. >> So, what you need to do is you need to put your No, put your arms behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. You are being placed under arrest for DUI at this time. Okay. Um You have my ID, right? >> Yes, I have your ID. Um, so like I said, you are under arrest for DUI and I'm about to read you something in a second about the DUI. Now, do you have any sober friends that can come get your car? >> Yeah, >> they haven't been drinking. >> Well, do you Well, the reason I ask is cuz if you don't have a sober friend that can come get your car, I might have to tow it. But we'll we'll think about that in a minute. Come over here real quick. Just sit on the front of my car. >> Is there any possible way I can get out of this? Is there any possible way? >> No. I I I [snorts] believe that you are not safe to be operating the vehicle, so you're not going to be able to get out of it. Okay. But there's more to this. So, I need to read you something. >> Is it over $1,000? >> There's no money right now. There's no monetary amount. That's not a concern. I I don't want I don't want to jail picture. I don't want to >> I understand it. It It sucks, but you have been arrested for DUI and you I want to confirm this. You are 20 years old, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I need to read you something. I need you to listen to me. Okay. >> The state of Georgia. >> Am I going to die? >> Why are you going to die? >> And I'm Am I going to get >> No, hold on. Just listen to me and I'll tell you everything that's going to happen. Ma'am, I don't even know. I forgot. What's your first name? >> Amelia. >> Amelia. >> No. Please, please, please. So, Ameilia, I need you to listen to me, okay? >> I do. Please, please, please, please, please. >> But just listen to me real quick, please. >> Would you listen to me? I have to read you this, okay? The state of Georgia has conditioned your privilege to drive upon the highways of this state upon your submission to state administered chemical test of your blood, breath, urine, or other bodily substances for the purpose of determining if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you refuse this testing, your Georgia driver's license or privilege to drive on the highways of this state will be suspended for a minimum period of one year. Your refusal to submit to blood or urine testing may be offered into evidence against you at trial. If you submit to testing and the results indicate an alcohol concentration of 0.02 gram or more, your Georgia driver's license or privilege to drive on the highways of this state may be suspended for a minimum period of one year. After first submitting to the required state test, you're entitled to additional chemical test of your blood, breath, urine, or other bodily substances at your own expense and from qualified personnel of your own choosing. Will you submit to the state administered chemical test of your breath? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, you'll go take a breath test. Okay, we'll go do that. Um, >> wait. No, please. I cannot. >> Well, we're going to go take a breath. >> I can't afford it. I can't afford it. >> Listen, we'll worry about all that. >> No, I can't afford it. I don't I don't want to get like in jail. I don't want That's not Listen, if if you end up going to jail, you will be separated. No one You won't be by You won't be by any men. I promise you that. >> Please, please. >> If that's what ends up happening, you won't be by any men. Um and I'll walk you through. I'll tell you how everything is going. >> I need to close my door because >> Well, we're going to do that in a minute. But but here's here's the thing. We got to figure out what we're going to do with your car. Now, there's a couple things. It is parked on a yellow curb. Uh, we can leave it here. You might get a ticket. >> Well, I don't want to get a ticket because I'm already getting a ticket right now. >> That would be a parking ticket. Uh, I don't really know where we can move it, though, is the thing. Cuz these are private. Do you have any friends that you think are sober that can come get it? >> Well, you guys pulled me over on a yellow street, so someone has to move it. >> Well, I'm not didn't pull you over in a yellow street that that we can do a couple things. We can tow it or we can call a friend to come get it. I don't think any of my friends are sober enough to call it. >> Do you now do you want anything out of your car? Do you want like your phone? >> Yeah, I'll take my phone. >> Okay. >> Am I allowed to have my phone? Can I call my mom? >> 22 28 central. Next in line. What What's What's in your What's the square thing in your shirt? >> My pocket? >> No, like on your shirt. There's like a square thing. >> Can you like >> Look, it's in your bra. I'm not going to >> Oh. Oh. >> Is that a phone? What is that? No, it's nothing. Is there an ID? >> No, >> it looks like >> it's my credit card. Just like >> It's like a square box. >> It's It's my credit card. >> Okay, that's fine. It just looks weird. All right, come sit back here. >> Huh? >> Do you want to transport or do you want >> I got to go take a breath. >> Just like drive it to like another curb. Wait, can I have my phone though? >> Yeah, I'll get your phone. >> I'm going to go with you. >> I need to call my friends and tell them what's going on. >> Yeah, that's fine. and we will we will make all that happen. Okay. >> Am I going to am I going to die? >> No, you're not going to die. Just get in here for a minute. >> Are you sure? >> Yeah, I'm sure. >> I don't I don't want to go to jail. I don't want to get I don't want to meet people. >> Right now, we're just going to Right now, we're just going to to the police department to take a breath test. That's all we're doing right now. >> Just go ahead and get in there. >> Oh, this is uncomfortable. >> Yeah. Well, turn sideways if you have to. However you got to get comfortable. I have a cage and I got a She's taking a breath test anyway. So, >> yeah, I'm already talking to they're about to leave. He's >> I don't need a seenis. >> Oh, can you do it? >> Yeah, I'm sort of 16 to 59. You can disregard him. >> All right, I got your phone. Okay, so me and you are just going to drive to the downtown station. >> Wait, I don't want to go. >> Abby is calling. >> Can you answer? >> I'll [clears throat] let you talk. I'll let you call her in a few minutes. Okay. >> I'm scared to go to jail. >> I don't want to get I don't want to get like anything. I don't want >> 22 28 central. >> I don't want to get a mud job. Please help me get out of the mud job. >> I'll be in route to the downtown substation for a breath test. Starting mileage, one female, 54651. >> Why are you turning down this street? Really? >> I I live over here. Oh, but you go this way and then turn. >> Yeah, I love over here. >> This is just the downtown substation. >> Oh, I'm fine. >> I'm just I'm just nervous to go in jail. >> Okay. This is not the jail. This is the downtown substation. >> Okay. Come in here. >> All right. Have a seat. Hey, Officer Wexel, will you come? She's got something in her bra. [clears throat] >> Oh, no. >> She says it's credit cards or something. It's like something square. >> Is it still in there? >> Not Did we rescue this? >> No, I wrote you a ticket, didn't I? Silver Dollar. >> What? Did you take it out? She had something square right there in her. >> I have my credit card. >> Oh god. Please don't tell me I lost it. >> Well, it might have fell in the back of the car. >> Okay. >> Oh, you got Oh, >> that's what I thought it was. Is that your fake? >> No, it's not my fake. >> It's just a friend's like >> Well, you have another ID that says you're older 21, but that's fine. >> Both of them aren't mine. >> Both of them are not yours. >> No, >> this is you, though. >> Is it cuz I took your the other day? >> You're Amelia, right? >> Yes. >> Okay, Amelia, what's happening now? Is they're using the machine right now when they're done? >> I don't want to go to jail. I'm nervous. I'm >> Well, this is not jail. This is the police department. be your weird thing. I don't want anyone I don't want to be like with weird people. >> Well, there's I'm the weirdest person here right now. You're not going to be around any weird people. I promise. >> I can't I can't I can't be with weird people. >> Come stand up. Stand up and come in here. >> Yeah, of course. I said they're blue. If I wear a future, they're green. >> I'm opening this breath tube. I'm going to put it on here. I need you to put your lips around just that part and give a deep breath and blow. You got to keep blowing. Keep blowing. Don't stop. Keep blowing. Keep blowing. Almost there. There. That's good. That's a sample. We got a sample. You got to fill that blue thing up. All right. So, go have a seat. It's going to run itself through the test again and we'll take one more. >> Wait, can you take these off me? They're giving me anxiety. >> I can't do that. Not right now. >> Sorry. [snorts] >> All right, Miss. >> So, listen listen. So, you are 20. So the legal limit for you is 0.02. The legal limit for any driver is 0.08. Your results are a.243. You are three times the legal limit for an adult. So you had no business driving a car. So I'm going to take you to jail and I'm going to book you for DUI driving without lights. Okay? So here's here's what happens. You're not going to be put in a cell with the man. You're going to go in there. You'll get to use the phone. They'll take your fingerprints. They'll take your picture. You'll call somebody and you'll get to bond out. You might be in a holding cell with other drunk college girls, but you're not going to be there with any murderers. I promise you. Uh if you can have somebody bond you out, you can be out within a matter of an hour or so. So, here's how. If you want, we can call your parents, they can call a bondsman, or you can try to call your friends. I'll help you do whatever we need to do to get you out. Okay? But you had a lot to drink tonight. You should not have been driving a car. Um, and you'll get a copy of this, but these are your results. The first time you blew. 256. Second time. 243. Okay. So, like I said, you are going to go to the Clark County Jail, but they will they will protect you. Okay? They won't let you. You're not going to >> cannot get >> Well, you're going to get a mug shot. That's required. Everyone that goes to jail has to get a mug shot. I mean, that's not my rule. That's that's like the rule. >> Can I bail myself out? >> Uh, if you have money and you can call a bail bondsman, >> how much is it? >> So, your bond, I think, for DUI is $1,000. Hold on. Hold on. Close your mouth. It's not You don't have to pay $1,000 right now. Okay. You look kind of silly with your mouth open like that. It's not You don't have to pay $1,000 tonight. What most people do is they pay Let's say your total bond is $1,200. What most people do is they pay a bell bondsman like a percentage. So basically to get out tonight, you would have to pay a bail bondsman like $150. You pay them $150 and they sign you out of jail. >> Can I pay myself? >> If you have if you have like the full bond amount, if you have like $1,000, you can give that to the sheriff's office and they'll hold it for you. >> They unlock me. I can I can pay $1,000 right now. >> You don't have a wallet or anything? >> I have my phone. >> Okay. Well, you'll have to talk to the jail about that, but but that's money that has to be paid to the jail. You can't like cash app them that money. So, you may need to pay a bondsman. Uh if you have somebody that can bring $1,000 or so cash to the jail, they can bond you out on that, but they'll explain all that to you. Um when you get up there, um the fastest way is probably use a bell bondsman, but that cost you money. You don't get that money back. But if you want to pay the full amount and your bond, I think it's going to be like $1,200, something like that. If you want to give them that much money to hold, you can do that. But if not, you can do the bell bonds route. Whichever way you want to do it, okay? Okay. So, here. So, we're going to walk back out to my car and we're going to drive to the county jail. Okay. >> And we're going to book you in. >> Can you please So, I can text my friends. >> Well, no. You can't just be texting on the way to the jail. >> Well, what do I do? We we will call them and you get phone calls at the jail, too. >> Respond. >> Well, if your phone rings, I'll let you use your phone. >> My phone, right? >> Yes. It's out in the car. >> It was. >> I can't afford this. >> Well, what's done is done. You were three times the legal limit. Okay. You were a.24. That's three times the legal limit. >> Am I never going to get a job now? >> You can still get a job. Like I told you, there are police officers with DUI. It is something that's on your record. >> Go away. When did this go away? >> I don't think it ever goes away, but I mean, if somebody ever asks you about it, you just have to say, "Have you ever been arrested?" You'll say, "Yes. When I was in college, I was stupid and I got a DUI." And >> it happens. People make mistakes. There are people who work here with me that have had DUIs. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, it's not the end of Do you Are you going to try to have your friends help you get out or do you think >> No, I don't know. Or do you want to call your parents? >> No. Yeah, I want to go. >> I if you here, have a seat. If you want me to, >> I'll call your mother and explain it all to her. >> No, I want to call my dad. I want to go with dad. >> If you want me to call your dad, I will explain everything to him. >> No, no, I don't. >> I'll let you decide, but Okay. Sit back. Sit back. Sit. No. Sit back. >> I don't know what I'm doing. What am I doing? >> I'm putting a seat belt on. >> You don't have to worry about me yet. Well, we're going a little farther. >> All right, it's fine. >> He may not answer. So, >> hello. >> Hey, uh sir, my name is Sergeant Franco with the Athens Park County Police Department. Is this uh Jamie? [laughter] >> Yes. >> Okay. Uh I'm calling on behalf of your daughter, Amelia. She's with me. Unfortunately, I've arrested her for DUI. Okay. She she was she was three times the legal limit for for a 20 she she was a 24. So >> oh my goodness >> her phone she's fine. Her phone has died. So that's why I was worried she may not be able to call anyone. We are on the way to the a to the Clark County Jail right now. She's going to be booked for just DUI and no headlights. Um, you can call a bondsman and try to help her get out. >> DUI. >> Um, so she'll be able to call y'all in a little bit, but we are on the way to the jail. She's she's upset and I told her since she was being cooperative, I would call you guys and let you know the situation. Um, so that maybe y'all can start facilitating her getting out. >> What? I I thank you, officer. >> Okay. >> What do I do now? >> So, she's going to the Clark County Jail here in Athens. Uh you there's there's there's multiple ways to get them out. I understand you guys being in New York, it's a little difficult. What I would do, the easiest way to get her out is to go to what's called a bail bondsman. I would I would just Google Athens Clark County bail bonds companies. I would call them, tell them your daughter is about to be booked for a DUI and they will probably take a credit card payment over the phone. It'll probably be I don't know $1 $150 and that they they would they would be able to come up and get her out of jail tonight. >> Okay. >> So, y'all could y'all can get that done pretty quick. I mean, she's got to go get fingerprinted and all that stuff, but she stop crying. >> Well, yes. She wanted me to tell you she's crying. Yes, there she I told him she's upset. She is upset, but she's >> I'm trying to calm her down. But yeah, I would call Now, there are other ways to get people out of jail. Um, you can pay the full bond amount. Say it's $1,200. You could give $1,200 to the jail, but most people use a bondsman. You pay them a small fee and they they get they get them out of jail. That's their fee. But I would Google Athens Clark County bail bondsman's and they would uh be able to help you out. >> Okay. Athens Clark County bail bondsman. >> Yeah, just Google it and there's a bunch that'll come up. Uh I can't tell you a particular one. Uh do you want to do you do you need to say anything to your parents? You should get a phone call at the jail, but they're already on the phone. Do you want to say anything, Amelia? >> Tell them please. >> Well, they can hear you. It's on speaker. >> I love them so much. I don't know what's going on, please. >> All right. Well, we're we're almost to the jail. Like I said, she's got to go through the booking process. Um, and just call a bell bondsman. That's probably I'm not telling you that's the only way to do it. There is you guys being you guys being in New H. >> Hold on, Amelia. There there are other ways if you if you I I know you're just waking up, but there's there's there's basically three ways. There's the bail bondsman. That's the way most people use cuz it's easy. There's also you can put up a property bond. >> The the issue with that, I don't really know how that works with you guys being out of state. Uh but you could call the Clark County Sheriff's Office and inquire about that if you wanted to. And then the other way, like I said, is you pay the full amount. You give the sheriff's office like the full bond amount, like the full $1,500 or how muchever it is, um as as a promise that she'll appear in court. So, those are kind of your three options. Um, like I said, a lot of people use the Bell Bondsman because it's the fastest and easiest, but it's really your choice however you want to get her out. >> The only problem is that um I'm going to call L, but you don't she has no way of getting in touch with you. Is should L be going up to the jail as well? >> Uh, if she wants, she can she can wait and see which bell bondsman y'all use and she can coordinate with Has L been drinking tonight? >> Yes, it's her 21st birthday. Well, L has probably been drinking, too. So, they might they might need to get an Uber or something. But, like I said, if you use a Bell Bondsman, they may be able to facilitate something about getting her home. But, but she'll sober up a little bit. But, at her level, it's going to take probably 10 to 12 hours, maybe longer before she's sober. Cuz alcohol leaves your body at about 0.2 an hour. And like I said, since she was a.24, that I can't even do that math. So that's 10 to 12 hours before she's uh Yeah, probably about 12 hours before she's totally sober. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you very much. >> All right. Well, you guys might appreciate you calling us. >> All right. Well, good luck. >> Amelia, they said they still love you. >> All right, sir. Thank y'all. >> Yeah, I I'm going to get her in here. She'll be fine. I I'm going to try to calm her down. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> They still love you. 28 central, ending mileage 54656. >> She was charged with DUI and no headlights.
