And he's even looking towards the house still. >> I hope the lady's all right. She was really shook. >> The man you're watching on the screen is a wanted criminal living in a residential area among countless innocent civilians. And on the morning this surveillance video was captured. He did something absolutely terrifying to a woman who lived nearby. >> Walk in the morning and I leave my front door unlocked, which I will never do again. There was some guy sitting on this bench with his bicycle. He's just taking a rest cuz they bike here all the time. I said, "Hey, good morning." He said, "Good morning." I left. I was gone about 20 25 minutes. I come back in my house. I see stuff and I'm like, "The guy's in my bedroom going through shit." I said, "Get the out of here right now. Get the out of here." Finally, he went out. His bike was parked right behind my bushes here. He grabbed his bike, left down this way. >> So, he went this way. >> Yep. An older guy, gray hair with a hat on. I think he had long sleeves. I can't remember. But older, like my age, 60 or so, >> gray gray facial hair. All my jewelry. He took your jewelry. >> I took everything. He was here for 20 minutes while I was walking. My jewelry box is a wreck. I took stole everything he had in his pocket and I said, "Get the out here." And he said, "Sorry." >> 1097. >> Hey, how's it going? >> Good morning. >> Good morning, sir. >> Were you out in the area by chance or >> I'm sorry. >> Were you out in the area by chance on a bike? >> I I rode my bike here at 45 minutes ago. >> About 45 minutes ago. >> Yeah. >> Where you coming from? I live here. I live in the condos. >> Oh, we're at in >> Why was there a Was there somebody suspicious around here? >> I'm trying to figure that out. Why? You know something about something? >> No. [laughter] >> I feel like a suspect. No, I live here. I'm watching her house. >> He's pet. >> I'm petsitting petsitting and watching my dogs going away. >> Yeah. No, I'm her neighbor. >> He lives in the cond. You don't have to worry about me. >> Okay. You got ID on you, sir? >> Whoa. Chris, >> what did you do? >> Hey, when did you get here? >> Uh, >> 45 minutes ago. >> Almost an hour ago. >> Almost an hour ago. >> Yeah. I haven't even been in there to look cuz she told me to stay out until you got here. >> Do me a favor. I'm going to go try to look for him real quick. I'm going to come back and get all all of your information. >> I'll be here. I'm going to go in cuz I know he's not here and he's working alone cuz I saw him and I I have a dog in there. I got to go in. >> Okay. Let Let's Do >> You want to take a look first? >> Let's take a look real quick. Actually, you know what? Stay stay out here. Let me take a look. Let me take a look. >> All right. I put my dog in the crate, but he may bark and go crazy. My bedroom is to the left. >> I've been showing him my house and everything what to do with the dogs. >> Okay. Like I said, we're just verifying and checking everything [music] out. Okay. >> That's fine. I heard nothing on you said he was here about an hour. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Well, did somebody get ripped off? What happened? >> Well, we're trying to figure that all out now, piecing everything together. But like I said, somebody Did you see somebody on a bike recently? >> No. >> Okay. I always, you know, we know this is a >> close community. We know all who people are. >> That's why we like to keep it that way. >> If we saw somebody suspicious, we would >> We would definitely let you. >> Perfect. Thank you. >> I went to grab my phone. Oh, wait. I did take a picture. Hold on. I went to grab my phone. I did. I did. I don't know if I can see it. >> Calm down. >> No, I'm not going to calm down. >> Hey, you okay? Yeah. >> I'm just Do you have the picture or No. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. Did you take my gun? You sit right there. might have. I don't know what he took yet. Oh, there it Can we go into the shade? You can see >> Can you do me a favor? Forward it to um >> Oh, wait, wait, wait. Let me Can I bring the number first? You're getting a pen. >> Go get a pen. >> Can you can He's in there. >> He's in the cage. >> One of the officers had mistaken another neighbor for the suspect. And even though both of them searched the area hoping to track him down, he was nowhere to be found until officers reviewed footage from a nearby swimming pool surveillance camera. >> Are you okay? >> Yeah, >> cuz that's a lot to to handle walking in on somebody like that. >> Especially since I said hi to him in the morning and then came back and he's going through my in my bedroom and I don't know what took over but I was just like get the out. I mean he could have had a gun. He could have shot me but I didn't even think that far. >> But you're home and you feel violated. I get hit. So, we have crime scene that's going to come. They're going to go and dust through the house. Um, take like some DNA and everything like that. Uh, or whatever they can they can do uh in the bedroom. Right now, I just don't want anybody going in there and touching anything. Uh, obviously your fingerprints are going to be on stuff. You live here. We get that. So, they if they remove fingerprints and whatnot >> of uh, you know, off off of places that are yours, they'll just get some elimination prints and stuff like that. Can you do me a favor and just show me like where where it is that uh he he was in? >> Yeah, let me put the dog back in the >> Oh, yes. I'm sorry. >> Let me put the dog in the cement. >> So, this turn light up. Maybe little girl. >> This dude was uh doing some looking weird. He pretty much hangs out at the pool for a bit and then he goes and sits in the bench in the front out here for 20 minutes. >> Hang on one second. >> Just kind of like fiddling and doing weird stuff, >> right? And then he leaves, but he goes towards the the west. >> He goes to the west. >> You guys ever seen him before? >> It looks like a guy that lives in here, but we're not 100%. And when he was on this bench the whole time, he's Yeah, he's just looking over there. >> He was looking that way a lot. >> Fiddling like, you know, I'm folding my towel 600 times. You know, the usual nonsense. >> Well, see, that's the thing, too. Cuz he he touched the handle. >> He touches the middle of the kind of rest, which is Most people don't do >> that. And not a lot of people touch over this railing over here where he was at in that corner. Barely anybody touch. >> Just me and Brian. That's it. >> So, you're saying you think you've seen this guy before? >> Yeah. It looks like a familiar resident. >> So, you think he lives in here somewhere >> in the villas? >> Yeah. >> I was out here watering. I saw the guy stop at that stop sign right there at Pool Lane in Little Club Way. >> Okay. >> And he was messing around with his bike. hit a towel over his uh over his bike. So that must have meant he came from the pool. >> Yep. >> Okay. Uh he stopped there. He went down that way after a little bit. So I was watching wonder where he was going and I didn't see him anymore. And then she came home. I don't remember what her name is, but she came home. >> Still walking the dog. >> Uh I didn't see her with the dog. >> No. >> No. She didn't have the dog with her, but she walked home and I was still out here watering. And then I saw her standing out in front of her place there in the garage talking on the phone. I guess she was calling the police. >> Okay. >> But then a little bit later, I saw some guy riding by here and turned there on T Lane. But then I saw him go by and she was out there on her phone. So she must have ran him out and >> Okay. So he was riding this way as she was on her phone out there. >> Mhm. >> Gotcha. Gotcha. >> In the surveillance footage, the man was seen entering the club swimming pool and then leaving on his red bicycle toward the victim's house. He was later captured returning home on his neighbor's Ring camera. [music] The victim later clarified that he had only stolen her prescription bottle and a spare Mini Cooper key. Once officers had his details, they arrived at his residence the next day. >> Hi, Sheriff's Office. How are you? >> What are you doing with guns? >> Are are you Linda? >> Yes. >> Hi, I'm Detective Pearlman. I work for the Martin County Sheriff's Office. Your son Dana, is he here right now? >> Uhhuh. >> Yeah. Is he your only son that lives here? >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you have any other sons that live here? >> No. >> No. >> For tonight. >> Okay. Where is he at right now? >> In the house. >> He's in the house. Okay. Does he have access to any guns or anything like that? >> No. >> Okay. >> What has he done? >> All right. Um, so he broke into someone's house yesterday. >> Okay. >> All right. So, where does he stay? >> He's in the house. Do you want me to go get the >> One sec. One sec. >> You have weapons or anything on your hands pockets? Hands out of the pockets. >> All right. Go step by the front. >> We got What was that? Just Just >> one of my partners to come up here. He wants to talk to you real quick. Sure. All right. >> How you all doing today? >> Doing all right. How are you? >> Cool. >> Yeah. >> Hey, Dana. How are you doing? >> Good. Good man. >> Hey, before I start with anything, >> you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Why do you think we're here? >> No clue. >> No clue. >> Okay. >> Federal. >> Federal. No. Bob, where's your red bicycle? >> I don't have a red bike. >> You don't have a red bike? Your mom just told me that you have a red bike. >> I had a red bike, but Okay. The one you had yesterday. Where is it? >> Um, >> Andy's house. >> Andy's house. >> Yeah. >> Where's Andy's house? >> Um, right off County Line Road. >> Is that the one off of Hobart Street? Is it the house that uh the deputies made contact with you at when you were when your mom accused you of stealing this car? >> Yep. >> Yeah. Does anybody else live here with you or just you and your mom? >> Just me and my mom. >> Okay. All right. Here. Listen. I'm going to put you in handcuffs right now. >> I need my glasses. Can you get the glasses? >> Yeah, we'll get them. >> What did you do yesterday? >> Um, I was just here. >> You were here? >> Yeah. >> Here you go. >> Don't worry about it. I'm good. >> Let's preface it with this. >> Mhm. >> Obviously, we're here for a reason. We didn't just miraculously decide to come talk to you today. All right. So, let's probably start off on the right foot here and let's be truthful from the beginning. Okay. All right. >> So, what did you do yesterday? >> I was just here. >> You were just here? >> Yeah. Working in the garage. >> Did you ride your bike to the pool to go swimming? >> No. >> No. You know, they have surveillance cameras at the pool. >> Yeah. >> They're nice ones. >> So, I have you leaving >> and coming back. So, I know you left. So, any reason why you're lying to me? >> No. >> No. >> I know you've been through the system, so I know like you know the game. I'm not here to play games. Um, I'm just looking to see if you're if you're looking to be honest with me. >> The officer was not wrong. The man had a long criminal history dating back to 1993 with charges including felony gun possession, theft, [music] and bank robbery. He even had an active warrant from another state. At the time of the burglary, he was out on probation for the bank robbery he had previously committed. His neighbors told police that they had installed Ring cameras precisely because they knew about his criminal past. >> No. You got your haircut yesterday? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. It was long before. >> Yeah, a little bit. >> Yeah. >> So, 10:15. About what time did did you bring your bike to Andy's house yesterday? >> Um I think it's been over there for a couple days. Three days or so. >> I saw you riding it yesterday on video though, >> so I know it hasn't been out there for two three days. >> 21. >> You rode it in here yesterday. >> Wearing your blue shirt, jeans, high top, boots, and gloves. and glasses. >> And your hat? >> Where's your hat at that you were wearing yesterday? >> The one with the palm trees on it. >> I don't know. >> You don't know? >> Yeah. All right, man. Well, listen. I I mean, I have you on video. I was just seeing if you'd want to be honest with me. The victim, the the house that you broke into, she just wants her car key back and she wants the um prescription medication that you took back. So, can we get that back for her? >> I don't have anything. >> You don't have anything? You're not willing to give it back? >> Think about how that's going to look, man, when it goes to court later. You know that you're just I don't care, dude. You're on video. The the clubhouse, they have video that reaches the road. So, I know you went to the pool, you went swimming. No, you came out, you sat on the bench, you went to the west, then you came back, you passed the lady who was walking her golden doodle. After you passed her, you went into the victim's house because it's on video. It's all there. And then the victim came home and she walked in on you in her uh bedroom and you were going through her jewelry box and you came back all the way around here and then that's when that camera has you going back in your house. I'm not here to just around you. So, you want to be honest? I mean, you were telling the victim sorry. If you're really sorry, then you'll be honest and we can make an apology happen. But you're just going to deny it. I mean, it is what it is. >> So, are you sorry for what you did? >> I was here all day. >> You weren't here all day cuz I have you on video leaving and coming back. >> I was here all day. >> Okay. He's just going to play a game. So, >> that's fine. I have zone 15 on the way. >> All right, cool. >> Um, let me talk with mom. >> That's fine. >> He had no problem letting his mother suffer the embarrassment of having a criminal for a son, but her expression made it painfully clear that she regretted ever giving birth to him. >> I'm trying to recover your clothes that you were wearing yesterday. Um, those look like they might even be the jeans you were wearing. But the route that we're going to we're going to take is it's um you know we're going to have your mom come out, sit outside and it's going to be a couple hours going to get a search warrant. She can wait out here and then in front of the whole neighborhood we're going to do a search warrant on your house. Um I don't know if you want to do that to your mom or not. You know, it's up to you. >> Um or if you want to have your mom get the clothes and bring them out >> that you were wearing yesterday. I don't know. >> I'm not going to give you permission to search my house. Okay, that's fine. >> I don't want to search. >> So, so, so here's the deal. Um, like I said, you're your son committed a burglary yesterday. Um, we have a witness that's on camera, everything like that. Um, he won't disclose where his clothing is and stuff that he was wearing or anything that he took. So, at this point, um, we're just going to secure the house, okay? and we're going to we're going to go get a search warrant for your house. >> All right. Um, unfortunately for you, it's going to suck, but I can't let you. >> Can I just stay in my room? >> I can't let you in the house because I need to say that this house is too >> I'm not going to wait all this time. If they want to go in your room, they're going to get a search warrant, and I don't want to wait. >> Well, here's the thing. I can't You honestly can't even give permission for his room. So, I still need a search warrant for his room. >> Well, that's the back porch. >> It's the back porch. That's where he's staying. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Is there access to the back porch from the inside of the house? >> Yes. But we don't ever use it. It's a sliding door and I have to keep it locked because the dog can get out that way. So, I never open it. But the way to get in is the back door. >> Let him search my room. >> Well, I'm not >> next to your room. >> And then hopefully that'll solve whatever issue that they got going on. I don't focus there. So, >> so yesterday, um, >> I don't care what happened. Just tell me. I don't need to know. I don't want to know what happened. If you're looking for something, you have my permission to go see if it's here. >> And that's where I'm staying. >> So, the clothes in the closet. >> The whole The whole house is is here. >> Do you know where his glasses are? >> No, I don't. I >> Okay. >> They they get lost off and on. I think they were lost yesterday. I couldn't find them. And I don't know if you found them or not. >> Okay. What about the the hat that he was wearing yesterday? Like the white trees on it. >> I haven't seen that today. >> We haven't seen that today. >> Did he throw anything away yesterday that you saw? >> No. >> No. Have >> you guys trash pick up yet? >> Just out there. >> Okay. So, the trash already came. >> Uh, all they pick up is that stuff out there. >> Oh, okay. >> Trash pickup is on Monday. >> Can you put me on two cuffs because I got a bad rotator? Uh, shoulder. Just put two cuffs on them. over. I'll lean over. >> I'll do whatever you want. You know what I mean? Just put two tucks on me. >> Am I correct in that his hair was long yesterday and he got it cut short like that? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Did he tell you why he wanted to do that? >> No. He has a job interview tomorrow. >> Is that what he told you? >> Oh, that's Yeah, I've been hearing that for weeks. So, >> okay. His red bicycle that you said he had, where would that be? >> I don't know. If it's not here, I I don't know. I mean, it's my house. just registered to me and I'm I'm giving you permission to go and do whatever it is you got to do. >> Yeah. I think we're going to run into a problem though because he's originally saying no. >> Dana, it doesn't matter whether they go and get a a search warrant or not. All we're going to do is sit here in the sun and wait until some judge want to find something. >> I told them that they could search my room right there. >> No, they have to search the whole house. They have to. That's their job. Whether they >> What exactly are they whether they want it now or later? If you want to hang out in the garage, >> I got to go get my dog. I can't block him. >> I don't know what I'm going to do with it. >> Upon searching the house, officers found the clothes he had been wearing during the incident. [music] It was now clear what needed to be done. >> Come here, baby. Come here. All right. >> His hat's just right on the table. >> These are double locks. Donna was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and felony petite theft. YouTube thinks you'll love the video on screen. Click to watch now.
