on July 22nd 2022 Dunwoody Police responded to a hitandrun incident in Dunwoody Georgia an elderly woman in a Mazda sedan reported being struck by a Toyota SUV according to her both vehicles pulled over initially however the female driver of the Toyota after inspecting the minor damage to her vehicle simply got back in and drove away the determined Mazda driver followed the Toyota until it finally stopped hey how y'all doing I've been better what's going on so she's in her car which one's her uh this Toyota and which color is the toyot which one the gray one okay uh I after I crossed uh shambly Dunwoody MH you know there's the uh the uh Lane that you get in to make a left turn on what is that uh you know the intersection as uh not Ash is it Ash D Ash uh Ash uh on to make a left turn on ashr duny that's Ash Dunwoody where the police station is yeah okay so I was I signal and was in the process of getting in that lane mhm not not before the yellow strips started cuz there the yellow strips and she comes she had already been telling me uhhuh uh really close even coming across the the uh intersection she had just been literally tailing me and so I signal to get over and next thing I knew she came just oh she came around me boom to and to get in to get in that lane so she was over in the oncoming Lane okay some of her had to be over in the oncoming L but she hit me m and bumped me uh over out of that lane she gets out so I put my I put my uh flashers on she puts her flashers on she gets out she comes to the car she looks at her car she looks at my car and then she goes and she gets back in her car she rolls the window down and calls me some exploi mhm and then took off okay then that's when you follow behind her yes okay yes all righty you have any d damages to your vehicle uh I should had even gotten out to look but this all which damages yeah this that's from the damage yeah that's from her hitting it okay give me one second when officer spoke to the Toyota driver she explained a surprising justification for her actions she believed she was not at fault and that the Mazda had caused the ACD ENT after examining the minimal damage on her own car combined with a busy schedule and the intention to replace the vehicle soon she made the decision to leave the scene good afternoon ma'am how you doing good how are you well I'm doing well better okay what's going on okay um couple turn Lanes ago on Mountain Vernon turning left on Ashford dumy you know that long turn lanane after the Duncan um yeah in that turn lane and we were parallel and I guess she decided she wanted to turn so she starts getting over I try to slam on my brakes or at least slow down she comes right into me like okay so stop my car flashers on get out come around and I look and I'm like all right that sucks but I mean hell I've done more damage my own garage so I was like well I'm I'm not going to deal with this I have too much to do this afternoon and it's not worth it to me to get fixed I'm getting a new car yeah so I left and then she followed me here oh you understand in the state of Georgia when you get an accident you got to stop and make a police report or at least say strange information did you guys strange information I didn't I didn't know that I just thought since she hit me it was my call if I called the cops or not oh okay n oh you have your driver's license on you do you need it all yeah okay oh sorry that one's expired I have the new one on my phone you look it up oh you can just keep this I'll take for I guess I'm just confused why why she called the cops because she saying a different story about how the accident occurred and she saying you collided into her vehicle and so when she wanted to make an accident report called the police and stuff you took off she didn't say a single word to me the whole time I was walking around on my car the whole time I was looking at my car she didn't say a single thing to me she was still sitting in her car she didn't say a single thing to me all right give me one second okay the officer explained the legal requirement to exchange information after any Collision regardless of perceived fault the Toyota driver was arrested for her actions all right ma' so in the state of Georgia when you get into an accident you have to stop and I understand you did stop but you didn't exchange information okay you just decided that oh she supposedly hit you and then you took off from the scene correct yes okay so in the state of J is that is H run so right now you're going to be under an arrest for hen run okay so what I'm going to need you to do is put your hands behind your back and you're now you're under arrest for any but so she said I hit her I said she hit me but she's the one that's right we're not arguing about who hit who okay it's more of a you know you ackowledge the fact that you're in an accident correct okay yeah I got it you didn't stop we didn't exchange information you just left okay and that's where the the problem is okay the who hit whom is not really not really the issue okay the officer did show some leniency by allowing her to leave her car at the scene instead of having it towed so do you have somebody that can come get this car uh yeah okay um what we're going to do is you take your keys with you to the jail okay if you can't get bailed out you they can come get your keys and we'll lock it up here okay so you don't have to tow it or anything like that is there anything uh in your purse you going to bring your purse along with you cuz is it small is it big it's a little small purse okay so that way we can get it into the jail okay Officer sha is going to make sure you don't have anything on that's going to hurt him probably stick him or anything like like that and then we'll walk you through a step by step on how to get bailed out okay you have any questions ma'am when can call my husband you can call when you get your jail okay no no Jil call yeah I I will get another pair to put on her Okay I hold okay I'mma put the phone in your pH okay so um I I'm on my extra there they have some yeah they have Sal thank you oh these are good here I see why oh no you can actually keep those on okay I don't have the pouch on ask you a question my pouch broke for yes ma'am am I an idiot do most people like I just I don't know I just thought if I didn't want her to get a ticket and I didn't need to get it fixed I just thought I could leave so I guess that was that's unfortunately where the miscommunication occurred okay and offw he's just going to write you the the citation that you need it's a traffic offense okay you'll post whatever the bond is and then you'll have a court date okay and you can go to court on the court date and do what you got to do to handle everything okay we're not going to tow your car or anything like that feel stupid I guess I completely understand the frustration on that all right so I got the purse I'mma Pat it down okay oh yeah all right I'm going to open the door real quick okay looks I didn't know you had to open both you going on that let me get her a mask your purse going to stay on the watch your head your purse going to stay on the outside make here okay let me get your mask let me get her a mask no problem so what'll happen um Al is going to do um the citation okay bond is whatever it is and off I'm mden We Know by the time we get there okay um you can use a bonds person or you can do cash at the front um front desk someone with a ID with a passport or driver's license can come up there post the cash and then you can get out get on out if for some reason you can't post the cash it's going to be 72 hours okay usually the jail doesn't hold you that long but that's what the citation would say do you have any clue how much it might be I will in a few minutes okay he's he's typing it up right now we're kind of in the transition period are we good he's typing right now I'm going to go help the other get the other lady out of here okay and um did we lock that car yeah she lock it okay and you got the key she have the KE she she's got the key okay so that's safe and secure she was charged with driving on roadways designated for traffic hit and run and transported to daab county jail but I was trying to keep up with her and she just kept making these sharp turns and she make a sharp turn there at um I can't think of the street uh start starts with an M there a meow Lane yeah mhm she made a sharp turn there and then she that's why she got how she got back here yeah yeah okay she turned and then she turned again then she turned again she she was just she was she was going just kind of back and forth around in here and then she pulls in here and I think she thought that she had lost me MH and I was fortunate that uh I was honking my horn and I was fortunate that other cars uh kind of got out of the wayway yeah um Adrian do me a favor kick that hcat back in real quick see it's popping out a little bit Yeah kick that Hub hat back in there you go but it was great to meet you I'm going to move on to the next call sorry we had to meet like this
