no you're good I no no hi homicide who who who who is dead he's dead I can't believe what you're telling me if you walk away from me you're going to jail really yes sure Sergeant Michael Williams on the evening of November 30th someone called the stuttered Police Department for help the person calling was a worried wife she said her husband might be in trouble because they had a big argument the police were supposed to check if the husband was okay but the officers who came made a big mistake with their Authority Sergeant Michael Williams and officer Haley went to check on the husband's safety officer Haley started talking to the husband but didn't handle it well hey so your wife wanted us to check on you my wife yeah are you going through something um yeah but can you trans out of your pocket for me no you're good I no no hey I need you to come back over here and talk to me though that's a order he sir yes or no sir I'm just trying to listen we're just doing a welfare check on you yes I might beight yeser not right now I need to talk to you he don't want to talk Sergeant Williams joined officer Haley and things got worse the conversation between the officers and the husband became became more tense Williams went too far with his power he asked for the husband's ID and threatened to arrest him if he didn't give it even though the husband wasn't doing anything wrong Williams said the husband was blocking the police but he really wasn't well if you're that is a crime it's a crime to I'm not so well that's not what we got well that's you your on you nope you're going to go to jail walk away then take me to jail if you walk away from me you're going to jail really what yes obstruction so keep arguing I'm being detained for what we got a call we're here to talk to you I don't care if you want to talk to us or not so what is going on I'm not talking to you that's fine go and turn back oh well you can detain me without handcuffs I think you're just intimidating me all right front of words TW okay all right you have anything that's going to post sck or stabing don't know you don't know probably okay anything thing does t me that's a Char really really you're own I told you something might be in there and it might the arrest was made under questionable conditions Williams claimed the husband was blocking the police which led to his arrest people who saw what happened and later investigations showed that this arrest was a big mistake and went against the husband's rights the husband argued ued against his arrest because there was no real reason for it I'm sorry why are you searching me huh why are you cuz this is this is more than yes it is I'm obviously not obstructing you you obviously were okay cuz when you walk away from us we here legally and you were detained that this obstruction walk away from you you were 100% walking away from at first that was before you told me I was detained and it will s on your body can you're just violating my right there violation under two auditors worried about how the department was doing things asked for information under the Freedom of Information law when they talked to the department they found out that it wasn't ready or willing to deal openly with people's worries I wanted to make a for request okay uh do we have to have paper documentation of that and then once we get that request we have to send it through our City attorney and make sure it's approved okay can I get a piece of paper from you make it two appreciate you yes sir it's going to come out oh okay cool are there any officers here that we could speak with um I'm not sure but I could check that out for you the highest that's here would be awesome okay yes sir thank you sir I have my sergeant coming up here me cool thank you what you a sergeant yes sir I think you were just com to talk to us I hope you weren't busy doing something different I just had a couple questions yes sir so we were just making a full I'm I'm Justin by the way Sergeant Jackson the Auditors looking for Clear information met with Sergeant Jackson from the police department we're hear in reference we're wondering about what happened with Sergeant Williams okay uh I don't know if you're I'm talking about where he had arrested a man named Matt I believe Nate Nate sorry all the charges were dropped on him but Sergeant Williams was out there making a call for service and he didn't want to talk to him and he ended up arresting him you know did he get retrained after that in any way uh that I'm not aware of we work opposite shifts so right now uh he's on nights and I'm on days so the way they got it set up when we work our schedules is that we never interact with those all right cuz we worked for on for but we actually worked for to a sh so whenever we come to work we usually work we have a foret on days and a four our foret that work nice so when we're working he's off when he's working I'm off when they asked him about the arrest if such actions were common in the department Jackson gave vague and unsatisfying answers he seemed unsure and did not commit to a clear response bit would you have done it the same way do you believe that it's okay to arrest someone that refuses to talk to police um that'll be a kind of a comment but uh unlikely um they was here for war for call so uh well this is something that the public wants to know that is that just something that sergeant Williams does or is that Stuart police in general no that's not Stuart police in general so you don't so you wouldn't arrest someone just because they don't want to speak with an offic well there for me not knowing the call that he was called on but it was a Warfare check for what I'm understanding well let's say that circumstance would you have arrested him as well like Sergeant Williams did you seen the video you I have have you yes I have okay would you have arrested him or what would you have done I mean I was just I mean just me my experience in law enforcement me if I'm going there for we forj uh as long as I see he's okay that's that's that's my own thing as we continue our exploration don't forget to like share and subscribe to stay updated with our in-depth discussions what do you what does The Thin Blue Line flag mean to you uh the Serve and Protect my Community Serve and Protect Your Community yes sir okay if I gave you an American flag well you wearing an American flag yes sir I'm I'm upholding the Constitution you know I'm not glad anybody love it love it no pressure If you don't know it but do you know the five key elements of the First Amendment I'm only asking you because I think you're I think you know it most people can't just name off top their head on the spot so you see the the Fifth Amendment the First Amendment there's five elements El the um the acronym is Ws R A PPS so religion assembly and then PPS okay I'm I'm going be honest with you I don't know it but I'm on top of my head I've got a lot of things going on but no worries man I appreciate you being honest thank you ma'am yes sir and you have a good day you too I'm sorry what was your first name Paige Paige thank you Paige I'm Justin have a good one all the charges against the man were dropped however Sergeant Williams didn't seem to get any retraining or discipline for what he did or if he did the police department didn't share that information it's really unfair to arrest someone just because they didn't want to talk let's discuss another case of a corrupt officer who encountered challenges did detective Michael Neely detective Michael ne's life took an unexpected turn after what was supposed to be a routine work trip with his chief Johnny Miller the two had traveled to Pensacola for a law enforcement conference and decided to unwind with a few drinks afterward the night started normal for Neely and Miller as they went out to unwind after their conference as the night went on they drank more and more which affected their ability to think clearly and remember however the night took a dark turn the next morning Neely woke up in a disorienting and horrifying scenario he was in police custody accused of being involved in his Chief's death in the interrogation room a place where Neely had questioned many others before it was now the one being asked about the previous night so tell me Mike you guys um flew out of Tulsa Oklahoma City Oklahoma City okay and P Cola y was it a direct flight no where where'd you guys hou Houston all right and then from there um got to the hotel and said the investigators wanted to know about their travel and what they did to piece together what happened Neely who was still feeling the effects of a big hangover and was shocked could hardly remember the details any problems or anything going on that crowd just normal dinner or what normal any drinks there or just ding with couple beers was it a early dinner late dinner what it's pretty early it was uh I don't think it was dark yet and tell me once what you guys did once you got back to the hotel it's about it just watch football game that was Dallas game he managed to confirm their flight details and what they did up until they got back to the hotel do you remember um Hotel staff or hotel employee coming up and tell you guys keep it down I don't don't remember that so what is the last thing you remember as far as that even didn't until the football game well I mean I know you're asking me questions but can I ask you a question absolutely okay homicide who who who who is dead he's dead he's did yes sir I guess I I probably don't have any anything else to say then I've got nothing nothing to say to you as the questioning went on Neely learned about the serious matter he was being investigated for the murder of Chief Miller shocked Neely had a hard time understanding what was happening knowing how serious the accusation was and the risky situation he was in he chose to use his right to remain silent to avoid saying anything that could be used against him Michael You' be in charge with second grade murder okay I had no idea what I was being charged with yeah you being charged with second great murder and your Vic to be booked in scam County jail with no bond and we've already notified your uh your wife okay uh and um the victim I'm assum me yes you have any questions for us I mean yeah I've got a thousand of them but I mean really doesn't make it I mean sure it does I mean if you want to talk we'll sit here and listen to you talk I mean we'd love to know what the heck happened I mean that's that's up to you I mean we'll answer your questions you know in return so I I would love to know what happened too you know well I mean do you want to continue to talk to us if you do then I mean we'll tell you what happened I mean I I I would love I I would like to I would like to know what happened uh you know cuz I'm I'm I'm telling you I don't uh I don't have any memory of of any of this and I you know uh I'm I'm shocked do you want us to you want to continue talking to us yeah I mean I I I'll continue to talk i' I'd like to know what happened how ever detective Michael Neely began to truly understand the seriousness of his situation as the questioning went on for hours the officers kept asking more about what happened that night looking for any clue that might explain the sad turn of events Neely realized just how bad things were for him I'm trying to get you to figure out what's the last thing you remember and if you the last thing you remember was watching football uh do you remember drinking yeah okay were you drinking the Vodka yeah I drink some vodka yeah well the first call came a little bit after 6 I believe uh one of the guys that uh in the room next to you didn't say you guys were arguing just being loud just laughing yelling probably so the next noise complaint came out about 9 minutes till 10 in the evening this time you can't get anybody to come to the door all he hears he's knocking he he is just grumbling grunting uses his car to get in is on the ground between the bed and the wall you are sitting on his chest his face is beaten the statement that was given by the second noise complaint could hear a male saying Mike stop Mike stop and then it just went quiet as the questioning was about to end the officers changed their approach getting ready to move Neely from the interrogation room to a much tougher reality I mean you you can't think of anything that that would have triggered you to to jump on nothing nothing it's uh it's unbelievable anything else you got any questions for us Mike before we get you across the street no I guess I'm getting booked into jail and uh yep we're going to uh get you booked in the jail and put in uh special housing over there so that you're not back there with the heads and stuff right and uh protective custody you're not uh you're not want to harm yourself or anything are you no Neely was now facing a tough situation as he was put into the criminal justice system a system he had worked in and supported all his career now with charges against him and being alone in jail today we've seen how quickly life can change for someone even when they are a part of the law enforcement system this shows us how complex and tough situations can become very quickly thanks for watching until next time
