On July 17th, 2023, Duny police responded to a report of a lost gold ring at Perimeter Mall in Atlanta, Georgia. >> Hey, what's going on? >> Not much. We got a gentleman in the location who claimed a ring, a wedding ring that didn't belong to him. >> How did he claim it? >> Um, >> he just walked up. >> Actually, some someone turned it into one of the other officers >> and obviously he was in the area and he overheard him. So when the officer came to record it in here, he came down and said, "Oh, did y'all find a ring? It belonged to me." >> Mhm. >> So just so happened as he walked out the ring. >> Yeah. >> Because he he somewhat described it cuz he overheard the other officer describing it, but the actual owner had called and um described it as well. The one thing he didn't is the lieutenant. >> Hey, how you doing, man? >> So where's he at? He works in the mall. >> Right there. He works on a kiosk out >> and he's saying that he come to his dad but he never left the home. >> Yeah. And >> Oh, you guys went and said something to him. >> I went and talked to him cuz I'm the one that sign off the ring. So, he came and claim it like, "Oh, that's my ring." So, I had him fill out the paperwork and sign off on it. And next, something told me to put next to it >> just in case I forget cuz I have a bad memory. I put Bentley Kios next to it just in case cuz I know something wasn't right. So, I went over there and talked to him like, "Sir, the person that owns the ring actually called." He said, "Oh yeah, man. That was in my ring. That was my dad ring. I already gave it to my dad, but he never left the kiosk. >> You got the person information who called? >> Yes. >> His phone number. >> So you So y'all think it's definitely Mr. >> Yes. He described the um the engravement >> and he told us where he left it at. >> That's what he who found it. >> Um this guy at this kios found it and give it to one of my officers. So he must have told me >> 31 unit >> and then he came to claim it. >> Did did the other guy um did he did he express did he explain that same engravement or two? No. >> No. He when I approached him he said oh yeah man cuz at first when Mr. P was talking to my other officer was talking to him. He didn't know about the engravement. So I said he got three when I got he said yeah man some some Muslim stuff. My dad is Muslim. Well yeah I already cash it out and give it to him. Like what are you talking about? I already give it to my dad. I took it to my dad, but he never left the mall. >> He's been there since. >> Y'all been watching >> and he never left. >> He never left. >> He didn't go anywhere. >> Not unless his dad worked somewhere in in that area. >> That's all I knew. >> All right. We How you get there? >> Well, I'll take you back. All right. Quick word. >> Hello, man. How you doing? I'm officer SH at the DY Police Department. The reason I'm out here with you, where's the ring that you >> Was it your ring? >> Yeah, my father. I ran. >> What the ring look like? Right. It's my dad. >> So, your dad lost it in the mall. >> I did. I cash that ring. >> You what? I bought it. >> Uhhuh. Where'd you buy it from? >> I bought it from yesterday >> today. Yes. >> Yes, sir. You got the receipt? >> You don't got the receipt? They didn't email you receipt or nothing like that? >> What store you bought it from? You in here? >> No, I said in Lawrenville. >> In Lawrenville. So, what store? >> Killers got >> So, if I went up to K Jewelers and called them, they would say, "Yes, Mr. So and so." You got your ID? >> You ain't got no ID on you? >> No. >> All right. He's going to write down your name. your name and date of birth. Go from there. So, we searched you had no ring on. >> I searched you. All right. Give me your name and date of birth. Then we'll go in there. >> You know the mall got cameras, right? >> Yeah. >> So, I'm going ask you again. I just want you to be honest with me. >> Was that your ring? >> Yes. >> It was your dad's ring. >> My car. >> So, I get you to call your dad, he going to say, "Yeah, I got a ring and all that." I got to do all that. >> I'm just asking. We got cameras. I just want I just want you to tell the truth. >> You can run the cameras, bro. >> I can search you. >> No, I don't want to. >> No, you just said I could. >> No, bro. You know what I'm saying? I don't really feel comfortable. >> So, you don't got the ring on you? >> No, I don't got the ring. >> What's your dad's number? >> What's your dad's number? >> I'm saying what's going on? >> You said cuz obviously you know what's going on cuz they came and talked to you. >> Somebody lost a ring. You went in there and said, "Oh, that's my ring." Correct. >> Then you they went up to you and you said that that's my dad's ring. And now all of a sudden it's not your ring. It's your dad's ring. >> It's my ring. I bought his >> Okay, then what's your dad's number? We just got to confirm. >> This what I'm saying. I know. >> We got to do an investigation of what happened. >> How y'all doing investigation? >> Cuz I'm about to call your dad. If your dad says yes, I lost a ring. My son gave it to me. LA, then we can go from there. Right. >> I'm saying the wrong company is calling my dad. Like I can call my >> then how we supposed to >> is that that's what it's looking >> how we supposed to confirm >> I'm just saying my my arm is a part of first I need to call >> okay to do that but I don't >> I can call your mom then and she can verify and call your dad first >> okay so what's your dad's number >> I'm saying bro why you got I don't feel comfortable giving you my dad number >> what's your name >> my name Jamal >> Jamal you don't got that ring >> I don't have a ringal my dad is my dad's mother >> where'd you lose the ring I'm in the bathroom. >> You lost him in the bathroom in the sink? >> Yes. I don't got no reason why he was wearing the sink. That's what I'm saying. I done been I done been in trouble before. I know. I know the ins and outs, bro. I didn't I don't got no reason still. I got a job. I got I'm not hurting for them. I've been working. They know me. >> But you calling my dad, getting his number. I don't feel comfortable with that long. Like, you know what I'm saying? >> Why would they lie and say that? Why would somebody lie and say, "Oh, I do have a ring that hasn't even been in the mall today." Agree. You said what? >> Why would somebody claim that ring that supposedly is your dad's if they haven't? >> You know what I'm saying? >> I just like I said, my dad is a Muslim. I got Islamic right. >> So, you know, Muslim. >> You don't? >> I told him to put ring. It's custom ring. >> So, you got a custom ring. >> What' you get engraved in the ring? What does it say? It >> It says in Islam. >> What happened? Chick. He's going Okay. in on the ring. >> They said number one in the ring. >> In the ring. >> That's >> where did they find a ring at? >> No man's restaurant. >> Where at? Exactly. >> The guy with from this kiosk found it and gave it to my office. >> And my office gave it brought it to my office cuz we don't like leaving money and things like that in the back openly. So it was in my office for my destiny. Somebody came and said somebody's here to claim it. the owner here to train me >> and then he came and tell me I had him sign the paperwork and I ask him for ID he say they have no ID I'll make them put his name down and I put it in there as a supervisor don't give it to then later the guy called >> can y'all run the cameras back just the call the person claiming the ring know when they lost it or can y'all run the cameras back and see if he lost it >> well we don't have no cameras we won't have cameras in the restroom you can have the guy that lost it to actually >> So you don't have a ring. >> Where'd you leave to take him to him today? >> Where's your dad live? >> Yeah. >> Airbnb. Where? >> Where at? Nobody. You know the address. You just went there. So you know where it's at. >> I know where it's at. I don't know the exact address, but this is what I'm saying. >> You have it in your phone. How'd you get there? >> I'm saying I It's my room. You know what I'm saying? I don't reason why. I don't have to tell you all that. He say she say he say she say >> you got cameras, man. >> So why would somebody be claiming a ring and describe it to a T if it was your ring that you bought that you customized made? You can't describe a ring that you custom made, right? >> It's it's not the right one. >> So what if they >> Okay. What does it say? >> I just told you the number one dad in the world. >> And where is it engraved at? >> It's engraved on the outside. It's also engraved on the inside. >> Okay. Turn around. You going to be detained until we can figure it out. Okay. >> You give me your dad's phone number and I can verify with your dad. We can go from there. But until then, it's the route we going to go. Okay. Like what? It's crazy. >> Where's the quickest way back to the security office? Yeah. >> I told you if you let me call your dad, we can go we can go that route. What >> I'm saying though, bro, I don't feel you comfortable doing that. >> That's why because you going to be placed under arrest for theft by deception because you claimed the ring that somebody else claimed. So, I'm going place you under arrest unless I can call your dad and verify. If not, >> take me to jail for >> I'm going to take you to jail. >> But so what? How we going to know? How we know if you tell me the truth, though? >> Well, we going to see. That's why I got to investigate cuz right now you not cuz you ain't let me call you dad. Anybody else would be like cuz if it was me and you I know you not me. >> I going to be in trouble bro. You know what I'm saying? I ain't got no reason to lie to y'all bro. Check the camera. >> We about to do all that. >> You could have just gave a ring back. Well, I know what I'm saying. I work here, bro. What am I doing? Try to try to If I Maybe if I ain't work here, you know what I'm saying? I could run off, bro. I work here, bro. >> You remember what time you left? >> You can check the camera. >> When did you lose your ring? >> Yesterday. >> Yesterday. You remember around? What time? >> I don't know. I left it in there. >> What time did you realize you lost it and went to go pick it up from security? I realized I lost it on my on my neighbor was like the ring on the sink and I was like dang that's where the ring was the dude next how it end up on the sink. >> I don't know, bro. I put it on the sink. What you mean? >> Why you put it on the sink? >> I was washing my hands. >> All right. Make sure you have no weapons or nothing like that. Okay. Spread your feet. What? These are car keys. How they come off? What's in here? What's that? >> What's name? Blunt. >> Marijuana. >> It's like a block. >> You can take it out. It's true. >> Yep. >> It's just half a blood. >> No, it's like a It's like a sickle. It's not not a blunt. >> Oh, okay. Does that have marijuana in it? Oh, >> okay. >> No, I just have a seat for me. Okay. >> Okay. Cuff me in the front. >> Nah, our policy. You could get cuffed in the back. All right. Put your foot in there. >> Second station. >> Hello. >> Hi. Is this Mr. >> Yes, sir. >> Hi, this is Officer Charles at Do Police Department. How you doing? >> I'm good. How you doing, sir? >> I'm doing well. I'm the officer investigating your ring that somebody else's claim. >> Yes. >> Okay. I took the ring off, set it on the counter on the far end, and I just I washed my hands that got on a phone call and walked out. >> So, it took me about 20 minutes to get over to my job. I ate my food. Another 10 minutes later, I go to wash my hands again, realize it's missing. I get to my department at uh what is it? 1 1:30 or so, and I realized I don't have the ring. You got him. >> Uh-huh. >> All right. Perfect. Let me do this. See that? >> Hey, man. What's going on? You found the ring? >> Yeah. The guy at that booth behind him? >> Yeah. >> He told me the guy left the ring in there in in the bathroom. >> What guy? Did you describe the guy? If it's not, then no. >> So, it's your ring. Okay, then. >> My ring, bro. >> I believe you. That's what I'm trying to confirm. I don't want to take you to jail and it really was your ring and I get a search warrant. >> And then if it if if if thing say it's his ring and and what's what's going what's going to happen? >> I I know that's what I'm saying.
