a seemingly routine Patrol for a Dunwoody police officer on May 29th 2022 turned into a high-speed chase after Hyundai Genesis blatantly disregarded a red light nearly causing a collision the officer reacting swiftly avoided a collision he then activated his lights and attempted a traffic stop however the driver of the Genesis with complete disregard for Public Safety initiated a high-speed chase 2422 [Music] we going to be on drive off prioritizing Public Safety the officer terminated the pursuit moments after the officer disengaged the fleeing vehicle lost control and crashed into nearby bushes vehicle crashed into a bush the driver abandoned the car and fled on foot a young woman injured emerged from the wreckage having sustained facial injuries after hitting the windshield stay in the car stay in the car got in there are you okay no driver took off start AMR ma' the driver took off starting AMR tra you stting Passenger please tell me you called Ang yes I got one started for you where did do you know where he went this is like one of my fourth question question a for on foot it's going to be headed back into the wood line behind uh Ravinia let's check on the can before to the yeah I can't let you do that she called her mother using the officer's phone the mother upon learning her daughter was back with her boyfriend expressed shock and anger while the injured woman initially resisted providing information about The Runaway driver her mother's pressure ultimately led to a reluctant confession what is what's your mom's phone number she's probably go to sleep I don't know what's going on so obviously something has happened there can you wake up he right here all right well they pretty much can't locate him so you don't remember anything at all what hear I don't know Mom the last thing I remember the last thing I remember is smacking my face against something and then all of all of a sudden I'm on the pavement and my head is spinning like 1,000 M an just so you know she does she has had uh two previous concussions that were pretty bad she's had two concussions okay yeah so if she did hit her head then obviously that would be an issue yeah she hit her head cuz she wasn't wearing her seat belt okay all right so I'm sure he was probably drinking or whatever it is he does he probably took off on fo cuz be ask he was a real piece of [ __ ] yeah he took off from me when I was trying to stop him from running the red light so okay great oh so that's how the accident happened he tried to take off from you yes ma'am okay all right well obviously I want to make sure that she is okay and do you can I I try to get a hold of my um I have a cousin that lives there I I she being arrested or you just trying to find this guy so right now it's still like an ongoing investigation so I don't really have that answer for you right now we got to figure out everything that's going on which is why she's detained okay all right well can somebody call me belt on the windshield was the windshield like cracked yeah it's cracked on the pass side she wasn't wear to see belt she crawled out of the passenger side um and then she was helped over here by that a cab officer that's working up at Crown Plaza so she's a little uneasy on her feet she's had talked to her mom she's had a couple concussions before um so then we went like but yeah neither seat belts locked passenger side wind uh windshield has has a big old crack from yeah from where probably a forehead whack it fortunately the woman's injuries were minor and she was treated and released from the local hospital later that night sorry he's picking up the car again so a search of the abandoned vehicle revealed both the woman's phone and in the trunk a passport belonging to the boyfriend you can find that chick's phone yeah I know there's one phone in the floorboard of the of the driver's side one phone yeah that's probably hers cuz he's got his he shut it off after one phone call it's um freaking pretty strong of uh marijuana in the car as well yeah that looks like hers all right hey huh found a passport found a passport yeah that picture him yeah we're all done going through it yeah a few days later boyfriend perhaps realizing the gravity of the situation turned himself in at the dun Woody Police Department so you need to get your stuff out of the car and all that um you'll be able to get it I and stuff so um this officer Hansen so he'll take care of all you need get stuff out you go get it out of ound tomorrow stand you have got Stu with you uh no do not you got any questions right now yes sir so you got any questions right now no sir all right I'm sure you've already been relay everything about kind of bond amount stuff like that all right next okay yeah cuz I remember reading that uh you trying to get your phone out all right go ahead and step in he now faces a hefty list of charges hid and run reckless driving unregister vehicle driving without a valid license driving on roadways laned for traffic too fast for conditions obedience to traffic control device failure to wear safety belt possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce disorderly conduct fleeing or attempting to elude and transported to deob county jail all right turn we're going to stand behind this officer and the gentleman right here you came I'll be honest it came very close to a felony hitting all right her injuries were not severe enough to fall under that but they were getting close Okay I'm going to be honest it came very close um so we kept it all in City none of its state charges um it'll be a court that's why the bond has to we paid at dun um at d yeah at the city of D so like where you were yeah that's where they got to go to pay it or you can go through a Bonding Company bonding company will take care of you just got to pay the bonding company however much St okay then yeah so pretty much once we're here once we get through the doors I get the handcuffs off you um as soon as I tell me I can uh once you're processed into the system put in texure taking all that fun stuff uh all head back to PD sign my end of the paperwork so that you can get out as quick as you can I I don't know about how long their process is on this end but I'm going to make sure mine is as smooth as possible okay
