This K9 was just shot by a drunk man in cold blood and even the hospital staff couldn't hold back their tears. The tragic night began with a 68-year-old man entering a bar and making some questionable remarks about his failed [music] date which prompted the bartender to stay alert around him. The man left [music] but returned 30 minutes later and attempted to order more drinks only to be denied service [music] because of his earlier comments. Frustrated, he left the bar and began brandishing his gun at the bartender during which a bystander tackled him before he fled. At that point, the bartender dialed 911 and police arrived. Little did they know it was going to be a very long night for them. Sir stop moving. Let me see your hands. Hey, let me see your hands. I'll talk to you in a minute but I need to see your hands. He was martyred Jinx, he was only 3 years old. He had El Paso County Sheriff's Office for 2 years since March of 2020. So earlier today, as you mentioned, there was a procession held right here in El Paso County. It began at 9:30 this morning over at Animal ER Care off of North Nevada. It ended here at the Sheriff's Office. You had dozens of people from different law enforcement agencies as well as the community that were there to honor Jinx. Now, he was one of four K9 officers who served with the department. >> There will certainly be a void filled just in operationally, but I think the bigger void is with every member of the organization that uh you know, just feels this as a a tremendous loss for both our organization, our family, and our community. >> Now, his handler, his name was a Deputy Hancock. And right now the Sheriff's Office says their thoughts are with Deputy Hancock as well as Jinx's family. Later, a civil lawsuit was filed against four deputies including Deputy Hancock >> [music] >> by 68-year-old Wilford's family and estate. The lawsuit states that the deputies became impatient [music] and sent the K9 in despite having non-lethal options available and that Wilford [music] shot the dog only in self-defense. The case remains pending and unresolved as the court has ordered a stay of discovery. >> [music] >> YouTube thinks you'll love the video on screen. Click to watch now.
