On August 21st, 2022, Dunwoody police officers responded to a call about a young couple arguing in Dunwoody, Georgia. When the officers arrived, the man who had made the call explained that they had a minor argument. While they were going upstairs, he claimed he tripped and accidentally pushed his girlfriend. He wanted to make an official report about the incident. Hey, what's going on? You called? You can come in if you want. We can step out. Sure, what's going on? I I just wanted a statement. So, we had We're coming upstairs and I tripped. Come on in here and tell us what's going on. Yes. No, you stay there. I'll talk to you. Okay. That's how we do things, man. Tell us what's going on. So, we're coming upstairs and we had um I went to the wrong apartment. This officer get up here. And basically I tripped and I accidentally shoved her. Um Like on the stairs or what? Yeah, like kind of like that motion. So, she like fell down the stairs? Uh no. No, she was fine. I mean I just I'd be like where did you fall? What am I asking? Uh she didn't fall. I just accidentally kind of forwardly tripped and shoved her a little bit. Um it seems a little exaggerated, but just because she has like friends and stuff like that where cases where um they're So, wait, you just bumped into her? Uh that's it. Yeah. So, she didn't fall or anything? Why are we calling the police for that? I I would just want a statement, so nothing can be brought up. Well, it was an accident. Why why are you worried about it? It was just an accident. We don't have I bumped into my girlfriend, too. If you saw her friends and what they brought their ex-boyfriends into court for You guys live together, though? Yeah. Yeah. Live together. That's kind of a weird thing to be concerned about, man. I mean, I don't know. It's just a saying. That's all it is. I mean, um Cuz normally we when you call us, it's more of a somebody is injured, you guys were arguing or something. Have you guys been arguing or what? What's going on? Um never. Um So, y'all both just agreed like, "Hey, we should call the police about this." Well, we already got that, but About calling the police? Um So, that was was clearly just saying like shoving her arm and then me, too, like Okay. So, y'all we're both like, "Okay, it was an accident." So, I mean, like It's It's how it was. She just feel like that or does that I just I honestly I'm not trying to waste you guys' time. I'm just trying to like a statement, so Well, walk me through what happened, then. So, I mean, like y'all were walking and then y'all were just walking and then coming home or No, just walking like coming home. Yeah. And I tripped coming out and was like caught shelf. Right. And then me, too. Okay. So, like how did you fell and pushed with their hands or fell bumping their shoulder or what? Kind of like coming out like just like caught my foot and then fell and then with like hands. So, what what part of you made contact with her? My hands. And that made contact top contact with her where? Where on her her body? Left shoulder. Her shoulder? Yeah. Okay. Well, did she bump into anything or No, she's fine. I mean, So, she It's not damaging. fell and you just pushed her and she's like, "Okay." It It was just kind of like one of those things where uh she has like really good friend who's like in Dawsonville now who's like being accused of multiple things. And in Dawsonville, uh like really kind of circulates through court easily. Um even with no proof. So, like when something like that happens, Walk me through a bit more on that. Like the way you guys get injured or whatever is all the same. Like nothing changes on that. Um was she injured? Did she have visible injury? Well, by no. No. I did it was not hurt. It was me Okay. So, what were you guys arguing about earlier? Just uh uh the accident like Yeah, yeah. Before that? The the whole point was a statement from the police. Yeah, but what were you guys arguing about before that? Um uh Nothing? So, you argued after it happened? Yeah. Okay. So, how did that go? What kind of discussion did you guys have? We had a discussion. I said, "Hey, sorry. I didn't mean to." All right. You said sorry and she said what? Uh well, I mean like every girlfriend says, you know. But everybody says something different. You got news everyday. Believe me believe her or not man not every girlfriend is the same. I don't know how many you've had man but they're not the same. So, what did she say? Every psycho says "You're ruining it for that. It's super hard. She didn't lie." Um and then there was some accusation about like like She said something that was like like You don't remember? convincing Okay. So, were you all horseplaying before or was it just a purely an accident? I'm trying to So, it just happened out of order? Yeah. Okay. All right. Do you have your ID with you? Yeah. Where's your ID? Uh do you mind if I walk Well, where's her ID? That I'm asking that first. Okay. We'll wait for her until they're done. You wait until he's done talking to her. I I'll grab it. No, you you can wait right here. You're going to wait right here until he's done talking to her. Yeah, yeah. We we can do that first because he's not done talking to her. Yeah, that's We got to talk to you all separately before we uh No, we're fine. We signed for the big deal. Uh So, that's what we're here for. We come and talk to y'all both and if you got See, look, that's perfect, man. That's all I was looking for. Why? What were you about to go look for? I saw it. It was in Okay. Meanwhile, a second officer spoke with the woman to get her side of the story. She stated that they had gone out earlier and her boyfriend, who was very drunk, shoved her when she tried to guide him where to go. What's going on? I think he's just too drunk. Okay. Yeah. We were walking up the stairs She's right. We were walking up the stairs and he was going to the wrong door, so I tried to get him to come to the right door and he was just confused and just a little shove, nothing aggressive or anything like that. Okay. Um, and I was like, "Trevor, we got to go." And so, when we got back into the house, I was like, "You know, you shoved me, that's not okay." I wasn't, you know, I wasn't saying that he had assaulted me or anything like that. And so, he freaked out and was like, "I have to call the cops. I have to make sure that they know what's happening." So, Does he get like a guilty conscience all the time or what? I don't know if it's just How many times have y'all had uh issues like this in the past? Not really. I mean, he Not really, but how many times? He's never gone this far. Okay. How far has it gone before? arguments Okay. and we've gone to separate rooms, but it's never gotten aggressive. There's never been like yelling, cussing, or anything like that. Nothing that I've like feared for. It's just been arguments. So, tonight's been a little different. I think he just went too far. I'm not scared or anything. I just kept trying to tell him, "Don't call the cops. There's no need for that. I'm not freaking out. I'm not scared." I was just telling him shoving's not okay. So, so tell me why he shoved you again. We were going up the stairs and he went the opposite direction. Tried to get into another door and I said, "No." So, I kind of grabbed him. Maybe I shouldn't have. And I just tried to pull him in the opposite direction and I think he kind of just back and was just like, "Get off of me type of thing. Okay. But it wasn't like I said, it wasn't like a full-fledged. It was just like a short like hey. Okay. Have y'all ever had the police involved in y'all's life before? Okay. How long y'all been together? 3 and 1/2 years. Okay. Do you have your ID with you? I do. Let me go grab it. I don't know if he fell or not. He didn't fall. I don't like that. has he had to drink? I don't know. We went out this uh tonight to Andretti's with some friends and that was it. Over Marietta or In Buford. Buford? Yes. So he's drinking out there? He was drinking out, yes. Okay. But I drove home. This one? That's it as well. We have a friend that's currently being accused of assault and so I think he's just He's been freaking out about it. Yeah, we kind of got involved with it. Uh-huh. We were there that night and I think it's just, you know, the fact that someone flip like that is freaking Yeah. So do you think he has like a drinking problem? He has been to rehab. Okay. Um he's been way better. This is the first thing that's happened in probably 4 or 5 months. So. Okay. Um Okay. So this hasn't happened before physically with y'all? No. Y'all have been together 3 years. He's got a drinking problem ish. Um he's been to rehab for it and then how long has he How much did he have to drink tonight? Is this all him right here? Yes. Was that today? Be honest. I don't know. I I genuinely don't know. He was in here last night and I was in the bathroom. Is that I mean that's alcohol, right? I mean what is that? Yes. Yes, but I don't know if some of it was from yesterday is what I'm saying cuz he was in here last night. A lot of these are empty so I don't know. Oh, like the hard seltzers and stuff. Okay. I don't know if some of these are from tonight or from yesterday. Okay. That's my honest Okay. I mean they're like So I mean they're And those are all him? Is he Is this all him? Do you drink? I drink sometimes. Like wine? A lot of Yes. More of a wine kind of girl. Okay. I mean you don't Don't make up an excuse for it. I know. I just I don't Don't want you to make up an excuse for it. Okay, it's not It's not like I don't I don't want you to make up an excuse for it. Okay. Um so I'm going to talk to him a little bit and we'll just kind of get to know him a bit. How long you say it's been? How many months? Since rehab? It's been Is this all good, though? I don't know. Okay. That's fine. Yeah, but it's been a while. Okay. After hearing her side, the officer returned to speak with the man. He admitted to having three to four drinks that day, dismissing it as not a big deal. How much you had to drink tonight? Um maybe three or four. Three or four what? Uh just Topo Chico's. I mean be honest, how much did you drink in here tonight? Uh three or four. I think it's probably more than three. 41 is -83. What's that? 100 is positive. Probably. Why do you think? Where did you drink them at? Here. So you didn't drink any drinks? Intoxicated? Yeah. Uh That's where you're at tonight, you realize that, right? Yeah. We had beer. Okay. And this and then I was with some co-workers I was with. I'm not saying there's anything anything wrong with it. Yeah. But I want you to be honest with the sergeant about it. And how much you had to drink. Okay. Cuz I mean I like walk through here and there's like an open can here and there's probably like five or six in there. There's two in the living Well, we're also I mean I can go and I mean you got a couple boxes over there. I mean surely you're looking in the garbage can there's one there. Yeah. The whole point that I'm making is is that um you're intoxicated. I'm intoxicated. Probably. Now if you want we can go in which is the direction that it can be. Is that what this is all about? That you're intoxicated? Yeah. So. So the reason I called This was this was just to make a statement. Yeah. So if if anything happens This isn't anything I'm forcing you, I'm telling you. This is off my own observations. Huh. So. Um I feel different. Um So. I've gotten this gray hair from doing this stuff for a long time. Okay, that's good. Um No, never laid a hand on anybody. Okay, this is So you called us because you said that you had laid a hand on somebody. This is more for a um statement. Right. If something happens, it doesn't matter if I have her or somebody else. Yeah, let me explain you you know normally we don't call the emergency number. Accidents accident like I bumped into my own girlfriend before and it's just like oh my bad and it's understood. You don't need to get a police statement on something like that. So. I mean this is kind of But Right. And you said she might have felt differently for some reason. Any female that you happen to have especially if you if you're And that's what I said earlier they don't they don't act all the same way, you know, like you were saying before. Well, well it's kind of one of the same as if somebody like I'm implying you like assaulted her or something. Then having the police come out and like kind of run down what actually happened is the best way to do it instead of them coming out like years later and discuss never implied that she was assaulted. She never called to say that she was assaulted. Yeah. You're the one that called and said that you felt like you were assaulted. However, the girlfriend claimed he had been drinking since the morning. To prevent the situation from escalating, the officer suggested the man spend the night at his father's house, which was nearby. Do you have friends or anybody that's out here? Right here. He's out here. I have a friend that's uh maybe a mile down the road. Okay. Um does he have a family or friends that are out here? He has a dad that lives about 15 minutes away. I've been in contact with him this whole time. Okay. Um how long have you been together you said? 3 1/2 years. 3 1/2 years. How long have you been living here? We've been living here about a month-ish maybe. Yeah, almost. Okay. You don't get confused on where you're going? I don't know. Right. Um how much do you think he's had to drink tonight, honestly? Honestly This is not saying anything to get him in trouble or go to jail. I'm just trying to Um more than like three Choco Loco things? this morning. Okay. What's your first name? Michael. Michael. Okay. So Michael, this is what I'm going to suggest. I'm going to suggest that you contact your dad who lives probably about 15 minutes away and then you probably stay over there with him tonight. It's very simple. Sit. No. I mean Okay, Michael, listen to what I'm telling you. Okay. I am suggesting that you contact your dad and stay with him tonight Yeah. Because of what has happened tonight. Why? Because you have been drinking since this morning until now. You have You got lost coming to the apartment. Um based off of your statement, you have which you feel like was inappropriately Is that a taser? Yes. What Thank you. Yeah. Thanks. What you feel like is that you have inappropriately touched your girlfriend of 3 years. And you felt like you needed to call the police. Based off of what's going on. Yeah. And where we're at now. Especially since you just recently got out of recovery and we're kind of back in the same place that we're at. I think it's probably a good idea that we go ahead and call your dad just so you have a safe place to stay tonight and that you don't have any other issues. Um Because I don't want to have a police action come against you that you don't want or that you and your job might feel kind of would be a negative influence. So I I feel like a lot of this is being blown out of proportion. It's not. I I think so. You can feel like trying to give you some very helpful suggestions that are in your best interest right now. No, I mean The things you want to avoid it seems like you're trying to inspire right now. We're trying to help you out. like personally I feel like you guys are trying to inspire things that are not actually happening. There are things that could have happened but we are trying to soften you. So the whole So the whole point was to have just I understand what you're I know what you're asking. And just of of something of a record of her and me just because it doesn't come up in the court later. Okay. Um and I feel like I feel like you guys That right there would not come back up in the court somewhere at all. And I I'll say this in the most polite manner. Um I I really like you guys to leave my house. Well, right now we're not leaving your house because one we're here for a lawful reason, two we've been invited in which all based off of the lawful reason being here in the first place. Okay? I feel like you're going way too deep with something that well Let me explain this to you Michael. Oh, okay. Okay? This can go a lot deeper than you want it to. That's why I'm offering you the suggestion of contacting your dad and having him come and pick you up so that you can have a safe place to stay tonight. I pay for this apartment and You can also pay for Listen to me. You can also pay for a bond to get out of the jail. Which one would you like? Which one would you like? Which one would you like? Would you like to pay for a bond or would you like to have a nice safe place to stay tonight without the police being involved? Michael. Do you want to pay for a bond or not? That's your choice. Bond or no bond? I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to him. Look at him. Look at him. Look at you. If you're looking at me, I won't make a decision so focus on him right now. This right here is giving you the options. When it goes down to him it's not this right here. This just means that I'm the supervisor. Not this. Don't focus on this. Focus on the big right yellow thing. That is give I'm giving you the options. When you look over at him, he's not going to give you the same options I'm giving you. Do you understand what I'm saying? I get it and it's going to be documented. Can you call his dad? He would like to talk to him. He wants to talk to you. You call him and I'll talk to him. It's She's dad. Um yes, if you can head over here and try and talk some sense into him, I think um we have had quite too much. And he as he's trying to come to the apartment, he went the wrong direction and in doing so, Allison was like, "Hey, come this way." guiding him a different direction and he in turn had like pushed her, like, "Get off me." So, with the intent of causing harm, I don't think was there. However, he decided that since uh that happened that he needed to call the police, which in a rational mind, we wouldn't have probably had that same conversation. So, trying to give him the option of saying, "Hey, let's go to dad. Stay there for tonight. That way there's no more issues and we don't have to worry about coming up with bond money." Um when when the cops are offering you like an out with, "Hey, let's not worry about paying for a bond." Sober people take that and like, "You know what? You're right. I'm going to get back somewhere else to stay." So, um how long do you think it'll be till you get here? Okay. If if it was never something that deep, I just wanted a statement to say, "Hey, I understand I've been drinking today and stuff like that." I just wanted a statement. Uh just basically saying, "Hey, I am not beating my girlfriend. Uh if we break up in the future, um it's sounds insane but she has a friend who recently did that. Right. Came back and got the guy. So, I all I wanted was basically just a statement saying, you know, "Hey, yes, I've been drinking. I I've fallen. Everything's awesome but I have not hit her. I have not done anything of that sort." Right. Yeah, we've gone together all those facts and circumstances that you provided us and that she provided us and that is why we came to the ultimate suggestion that you should go with your father tonight. That'd be the best outcome for tonight. Otherwise, we'll have to reassess our situation and figure out what the best outcome will actually be. Unfortunately, I mean that's not really a possibility. Why is it not a possibility if your dad's okay with it? He lives an hour and a half away. Yeah, he's coming over here, right? And he's like 15 minutes away. So, he just spoke to him, all right? He's 15 minutes away. So, what's the issue there? I guess, but I mean I paid for this apartment. Okay. I literally called. I called. Yeah, we we talked about that. We Which option Which option sounds enticing to you right now? Just to make a report. So, do we do we want to go to your dad's house? Why would you go to my dad's house? Do you Do you want to go to your dad's house or not? Are you going to go to your dad's house or not? We'll give you a moment to think about it. This is my apartment. Okay. So, which option sounds good to you? I I don't know what's It's my apartment. Okay. We're not We're not asking about your apartment. So, are you going to go to your dad's house? Am I going to get arrested if I say Are you going to go to your dad's house? Am I going to get arrested if I say no? We're trying to figure out whether or not we should tell him to turn back right now. And I'm running out of patience, so I I literally just called for we we'll be more than happy to call him back and tell him that there's no reason for him to waste his gas and drive all the way over here when you don't want to go to his house anyways. I called for a statement. That's all it is. Right. Not to get arrested. Right. I I don't care. I'm being honest with you right now. I I don't care why you called at this point. We are here now, okay? And we're trying to give you another option because what had already happened, okay? What The issue is not what's going on in here right now. The issue is what happened in the hallway, and that's why we're trying to give you an option. Despite several polite requests from the officer to avoid further trouble, the man refused to cooperate and was arrested. Uh oh, I never hit her. That's That's not what we're discussing right now, okay? So, we're going to go to Dad's house or no? Can I throw on shoes? You can. Or I get arrested? Can I do that? So, is that a no? Well, I mean, I You're not going to go to Dad's house? You want to go to jail with shoes? Sure. Okay. You are under arrest this time, okay? Can Can I throw on shoes? She can go get some shoes for you. Interlock your fingers, please. And you're going to get educated more through the police department than when you go to jail. If it goes to answer how it talks to you, Katie, you are Normally, people don't ask to be arrested. Well, I don't want to go to jail. I'm not a criminal. You did. You did. I had a total option. My dad works It doesn't matter. Your dad is the one that sat there and had volunteers come out here. This is my first time being arrested. Kind of exciting. Hopefully, it's your last. Just going to take a seat and I'm going to put your seat belt on. I don't know. They're not made to be comfortable. No fuzzy seats or fuzzy handcuffs. Yeah, of course. When was the last time you arrested somebody? Last night. For what? For what? Um DUI. Oh. I I'm the one that called you guys to make sure that I don't have a crazy [ __ ] trying to accuse me in the future for assaulting her. That was the whole point. Yeah, she's not doing that. Well, Well, she said that earlier, and that's why I called you guys. it's silly that you would call for that anyways. Just to have Well, I I don't mean that. But, just to have a statement. People get statements from all the time. All the time. Normally when we're investigating a crime What crime? That's what we come to find out. You're the one that called us. So what crime did I do? You called us to make a statement and I told you how that's weird, okay? So I tripped and she she also said she also said No, I'm I'm curious why I'm in cuffs. What the [ __ ] like what am I in cuffs for? She she also agreed I didn't hit her. All right, okay. Oh my god. We don't have to have this conversation. I'm telling you how this works. what's my What is What is my blow level, right? What's your question? you guys have no clue what What's your question? You guys have no clue how intoxicated I am. You're just guessing. So we're not. And then both of us have said that I did not assault her. If you're driving under the influence of alcohol, that's a different type of deal. But we can also identify what a drunk person looks like. Even you can identify what a drunk person looks like. Yeah, I raced cars for a living. Yeah, I I understand what like we're not we're not going to make any headway in this conversation, so unless we have any other questions that I'm just curious what you're arresting me for. And we're going to leave it at that and if You Well, you're so far off. All right. I hate I hate to say it. to jail. I'm done with this conversation, okay? Well, I mean you still have to listen to me. at me if you'd like, but that's fine. Well, you still have to listen to me. You have no blood alcohol level. You have no blood test until you actually get to the jail, so all of this is just a [ __ ] guess. In case you're wondering, we're not testing your blood alcohol level when we get to the jail. Don't worry about that. I'm taking you I'm taking you on this charge and that's the end of the discussion. That's not how that works. He was charged with disorderly conduct and transported to DeKalb County Jail. You got a bottom strap? Bottom strap on your mask. Just Just run it back. Can you just be a little bit respectful to the people around here, man? Dude, look, they got nothing to do with your arrest. I think we can both agree on that. No, I just I just These people are here doing their jobs. I know. I just love helping people. Man, look I'm I'm not I did I I do it for them. I'm just asking you. You don't have to do it for me, man. Just do it for the other people, man. Just be respectful to What do you mean even if They're They're not They're not your girlfriend, not your dad, not me. Look polite, does it doesn't make any difference, all right? Yeah, but these are other people here, too. I'm just Okay. That's just my my my request, man. That's it. Hands on the wall.
