April 16th 2023 officers responded to a call regarding a serious domestic violence incident a woman had been reportedly strangled by a family member and the situation had escalated to the point where law enforcement had to intervene the residence was located in a quiet neighborhood but the events that unfolded inside were anything but calm when the officers arrived they found a family in turmoil hello hello my name is Isabelle you're Isabelle what's going on tonight um this is my husband his name is hon okay you're not you're not no you're not his uh hisus no okay he's my husband um wow I I like your being around 17 12 22 it's not hey how's it going what's going on tonight what's going on tonight hold on hold on I have one question for you what's up when you hand out someone do you go like that like like grab them hard uh sometimes I have to have you tackled someone I have oh so what uh what happened tonight what can I say can I tell them yeah okay so so you go ahead the scene was chaotic with emotions running high and it was immediately clear that this wasn't a straightforward case the victim a woman in her late 30s had visible injuries that suggested she had been physically assaulted the officers knew they had to act quickly to ensure her safety yeah course so my dad and her were drinking hold on hold on that wasn't what happened and then he got mad cuz he was playing a song right M and then he kicked the speaker and he kic the wall and he threw her in the room and he choked her down on the bed okay and then she got out she trying to fight him off and she broke off some of her her nails are broken off and then he went in her room and then he broke the DM off sisters were holding her because she was like mad and then uh he he like moved my sister and he told her to shut up let me uh let me let me see so he did he grab your your neck he said he choke you and strangle you yes okay did y'all guys see it as well no we got here afterwards after let me see your hands okay the suspect was her husband a man known to the family for his aggressive behavior particularly when he had been drinking according to the report the altercation started after a heated argument between the couple she's mad cuz she doesn't want me to tell you where he's at but I'm telling him I didn't know where he's at wait I'm telling her you think I deserve for my kids to see me being choked to death chok to death both of Y drink Len girl but I never touch you know both of them drink but I never problem but I never touch you're out of here what problem out I no you're you're leaving right now you're leaving CU I'm telling you right now if you're going to keep on yelling you're going to get in my you're going to get in my way I'm not yelling listen you're going to get in my way of my investigation I'm going to take you to jail for obstruction plain and simple I'm going to give you one second you can either go sit on the couch you can either go sit on the couch and be quiet or you can leave those are your two options what you got to do the couple's daughter visibly upset gave a conflicted account of what had happened she acknowledged the fight but surprisingly came to her father's defense she claimed her parents had been drinking and in her eyes her father was just frustrated the tension in the house grew even more intense as the daughter's protective stance going I'm not going to let him do that not too listen I'm here scaring let's go let's go take the room where uh where it happened we won't go out he grabbed her by the throat and strangled her while pinning her down on the bed desperate to escape she fought back scratching at him and breaking several of her nails in the process we got in here he close the door and we were fighting and he threw me on the bed and gra me was there was there anybody else in here nobody and I started like kicking and you know mhm and I got up and I was like you going to do this to me like you know like you're going to be in jail he said I don't give a and blah blah blah and that's why I have all these marks and I was like why are you doing this he's like cuz I'm done with you I'm just done with you fight figh no I'm not I'm just want to close the door okay go outside okay go the officers tried to remain calm and professional knowing they needed to deescalate the situation without allowing emotions to Cloud their judgment she try 17 12 just walked out keep her with you did she touch you yeah she put hands on trying to push me out the way okay cuz she's trying to talk to her dad and telling her dad everything that's going on see you 17 go ahead huh okay it's not her choice all right hey come here come here what do you want come here yes sir okay hang up the phone I'm detaining you now they explained to the daughter that her father's actions were serious and that strangling someone was a felony offense as the officers moved in to arrest the Father the situation became even more volatile huh hang up the phone I'm detaining you now for what for right now it's going to be battery somebody huh she just grabbed one of the other people so turn around place your hands behind your back I H up turn around and place your hands behind your back please you go back inside I just told you to go inside I don't want her to go I'm not listening to you you go back inside I'm going to give you one chance okay what are you detaining me for I'm detaining you for battery right now because whenever I told you to go outside then you put hands on somebody else whenever I'm talking to her I'm not giving you any I'm telling right now you want to go to jail do you want to go to jail yes or no I have no reason to go to jail for no they just told I'm not drunk I'm not on drugs listen you just detained so come here for what stop dude the daughter began to physically intervene trying to block the officers from taking her father away the officers however had no choice the evidence of abuse was undeniable and the safety of the victim was their top priority they informed the daughter that obstructing their investigation could lead to to her own arrest and after repeated warnings they were forced to detain her as well on the ground on the ground do you want to get tased do you want to get tased I doing [ __ ] I ain't abusing anyone I a't your investigation but do what you want you're just going to make yourself tired you're going to make yourself tired we're going to here problem on the ground you want to get tape I ain't doing look I'm not on Dr I driving on stop grabbing why doing nothing to detain y'all stop it okay stop resisting okay now you are under arrest for what for obstruction obstruction resisting of made an obstruction officer I gave you lawful order I ain't doing Shing what I stayed out here like you told me stop it stop grabbing well I can't feel my fingers okay now you're getting charge of battery on a police officer leave me the alone get off of me don't want to do any that this back and forth continued for a while with the woman alternately asking for explanations and refusing to get into the car the police were firm in their stance repeating the charges of obstruction and Battery against an officer they explained that any physical resistance against police officers is taken very seriously and can lead to felony charges which are severe crimes you're going to take me to ail yes you were going to jail why for obstruction and batter on a police officer times 2 now you kicked him and now you kicked me well for what cuz I have no reason go to jail again yes you do you committed a felony so you're going to ja a felony for what again for y looking me up for no reason I didn't know what the Y were going to knock me out for you y'all just saying oh you're under a rest that's all it takes okay sit in the car please no dude the you want to arrest me for cuz I pushed that bit yes you did that's exactly what what did it hurt her it doesn't have to okay set in the car please dude I don't need to get arrested I don't have bug I'm not drinking I'm not drunk like that over there bit you are drunk okay I can tell right now sit in the station all right guys listen I'm sorry I had to go down that way but that was coming in this year look at me I'll talk to kids I'm pretty good at this we are all adults how long is she going that's not my decision she decided to do that hey honey you let's go sit on the bed let's go talk yeah she sad did that scare you listen to him did that scare you yes but I don't want her to go it's she said that she went to jail so the reason why she's going to jail is because she tried to hit us that's a no no and she didn't listen to us okay listen listen to this it's like me you want me hitting you exactly so you don't want her hitting them right so then then why are you mad why are you sad want to go because we have so much fun together okay and now she's going to learn that she's going to learn that she she's going to get out it's for a long time no get out tomorrow M she won't mom yes let's uh we're going to give you just a second I'm going to go talk with Mom just a little bit okay door's over there hold my pants walk over walk over over there there the situation calmed down as the police processed her arrest and she had some time to reflect on what had happened the officers too discussed the arrest acknowledging that the situation had escalated more than they had hoped and reflecting on how important clear communication is in preventing such misunderstandings okay guys if to be handled according to legal procedures this heartbreaking case shows how complex and painful domestic violence can be for families no one should ever feel scared or stuck in their own home what
