on April 12th 2021 at 3:30 a.m. Georgia State Patrol Trooper Zack puit observed a Nissan Centra driving 111 mph on Interstate 20 in Carroll County Georgia Trooper puid initiated a traffic stop Aaron Shelton was driving the vehicle and his cousin Pier Shelton was in the passenger seat [Music] when the trooper got out of the vehicle to go talk with the driver the Nissan sped off dash gam footage captures the moment Aaron Shelton attempts to elude the pursuing Trooper [Music] 3 [Music] [Music] the trooper was able to catch up to the Nissan and performed a pit maneuver but Aaron regained control of the car and continued to flee as they fled from Trooper puid Pier Shelton fired an AK-47 style rifle at the trooper from the front passenger window Pier Shelton's shots hit the trooper's vehicle and disabled it but the trooper was uninjured all right shots fir shots local law enforcement agencies were notified of the Chase and that shots were fired and responded to the area approximately 30 minutes later Carolton Police Department officers located the vehicle the chase was led by Carolton Police Department Sergeant Rob Holloway and Corporal Richard cheatwood the suspect approached the city of villa both suspects fled on foot a perimeter was soon established and approximately 25 minutes later Villa Rica Police Department Officer Chase Gordy was fired upon by Pier Shelton officer Gordy was shot in the arm and the leg can't he's on my car he's on my car he's behind my car Carol County Sheriff's Office Corporal trout and Deputy J repetto immediately went to in the arm both deputies returned fire striking and killing Pier Shelton Aon Shelton continued to flee on foot and ultimately hid in the woods gsp's Aviation unit assisted in locating Aaron Shelton he was apprehended by members of the gsp's SWAT team Holloway Carroll County Deputy Jay retto and Villa R officer Chase Gordy were shot during the incident all three survived but Holloway was forced to retire the indictment against Aaron Shelton contained 22 counts he was charged for his actions as the driver of the vehicle and as a party to the crimes of Pier Shelton he was also charged with three counts of felony murder for committing felony crimes which led to the death of Pier Shelton in light of this evidence the jury rejected his claim that he was coerced by Pier Shelton count 22 felony murder the court sentences the defendant to life without the possibility of parole The Man convicted in a car chase and shocking battle that injured two Carroll County lawmen and a villa police officer will spend the rest of his life Behind Bars 25-year-old Aaron Shelton was convicted last week for his role in the April 2021 shooting prosecutors say Shelton was the driver in the crime spree with his cousin Pier Shelton Pier fired an AK-47 at law enforcement several times and was eventually killed by police
