On August 3rd, 2023, Atlanta police rushed to a call about two men cruising through the city in a Mercedes firing an airsoft gun at innocent pedestrians. Officers entered part of the tag into their automated license plate reader ALPR system and began tracking the Mercedes across the city. While patrolling the area, one officer stopped at a red light and that's when she saw a woman running across the road waving her arms like she was being stung by bees. Seconds later, she spotted a Mercedes with a man standing up through the sunroof firing the airsoft gun. The officer immediately spun the car around and initiated a traffic stop. Both suspects were taken to the Atlanta Police Department to speak with detectives. While there, officers did another drive-by identification. This time with a different victim. 172 or 178? Further investigation revealed that the driver was out on bond for murder and the passenger had an active warrant for family violence. The driver was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and several traffic violations. The passenger was also charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Both were transported to the Fulton County Jail.
