On April 24th, 2024, federal investigators executed a search warrant at the home of a registered sex offender in Portland, Oregon who was under investigation for possessing and sharing illicit images of minors. The suspect was initially not handcuffed and was seated in the passenger seat of an unmarked Homeland Security SUV with the window down and an officer standing nearby. After federal agents informed him they had uncovered a hidden cell phone containing incriminating evidence, the suspect locked the vehicle's doors, slid into the driver's seat, and sped off in the unmarked SUV. The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office quickly located the vehicle, initiating a high-speed chase that reached speeds of nearly 120 mph. You can probably pass that vehicle. Officers deployed stop sticks during the pursuit, but the first attempt failed as the suspect managed to evade them. Ah.
