I've been here two times before, and each time, last time was like two grand or something. Yeah. >> Jeez. Do you have anything in your backpack that you haven't paid for? No. That you've taken out of packages. No. I'll just arrest her for trespassing and then search backpack. Which is what she's saying. Okay. So. I don't have anything. She didn't go past last point of sale. She had concealed this in her backpack in the restroom. [music] Typically, shoplifters who manage to get away with a theft have the sense to stay far away from the scene. But the dumb ones, however, let greed cloud their judgment and return to the same store after already walking off. No, why? Okay. Why don't you sit yourself down and talk to me, please? No, because I'm going to buy something, please. I'll pay for everything. You pay for anything or I don't know. I had it too. Okay. After I arrested you on your warrant and searched your purse, I found what looks like to be drugs in there. So, you're being booked on theft. Cuz I don't want to mix stuff. Cuz I'm getting evicted and I have nowhere to [ __ ] go. I lost my kids. Here are eight moments when dumb shoplifters return after stealing thousands. The first case takes us to Illinois, where Carly decided to steal from different Target stores, thinking that she would go unnoticed. They've been tracking all of your thefts for a long time, okay? You were on camera 17 times at different Targets all over the place stealing things, okay? Where are the Pokémon card set things that you took there? I didn't take the Pokémon cards. Okay, she has you on video taking the Pokémon cards. Where are they? Okay, cool. On January the 11th, 2025, deputies from the Illinois Police Department [music] responded to a Target store following a report of a shoplifting incident. They arrived just in time to catch the suspect as she was about to flee and began questioning her. What they didn't realize, however, was that she was no amateur. Outwitting this so-called smart shoplifter would take every bit of skill and experience they had. Yeah, I'm coming out. I'm sorry. Okay. All right. Who are you watching it all be with? So, uh I just got called because there was some shoplifting. They had books and I put them I gave them to the girl on the way out. My children came in >> to who? I gave them to her on the way out. My children came in with books and they were looking at books the whole time and we walked out and she said that I had books and there was a pair of boots under the car part that I wasn't sure if I was going to get or not that I totally forgot about cuz my cart was filled with children. Okay. And I told her I said, "I'm so sorry." And she said, "No, this is not a mistake. This is not a mistake." My daughter who is two or three is sobbing trying to give the girl the books back and she says, "No, too bad." Okay, so what about some So, there's books. What about groceries? No. Okay, no you don't have any groceries at all? Do you have any Did you buy anything when you were in there? No, I I put some sweaters back and they had the books. Okay. All right, so you have your kids in the car. Who's Who's driving? All right, let's have him turn off the car cuz we got to figure this all out, okay? So, if you want to open the door, He turned the car off. We got a We got a call about some shoplifting, okay? I don't know I'm getting the situation right now. We're going to figure it all out right now, okay? >> Okay. Um let's start Do you have an ID on you? I'm Justin. Hey. Thank you. Yep. All right. So, you didn't take anything from the store. There's nothing in your trunk from inside the store at all? Okay, can we open it and check? >> stuff from We've been running errands all day. >> That's fine. Okay. Yeah, do you mind popping the trunk for me just to check? Jug, I'll let you go ahead. Check out 1427 bio. Okay, so what's that? This is stuff from a different Target like we were at. >> Different? A different Target? >> been looking for this stuff for baking. I've been going to different Targets to try to find it. Okay. I can show you So Okay. So you don't have Do you have a receipt from the other Target for this stuff? >> Um Can I look in my purse? Sure. Where's the purse at? Up in the Yeah. She's going to Do you know where I put the receipt from Target? She's going to look in her purse for her receipt. Can you check the bags again? Sure. Listen, so I got this call so now I just need to investigate it, okay? So we went to Sik- Can I close this so my kids don't >> Okay. Okay, so >> Well, he lives in Rockford so we went I was looking for this stuff for baking. Okay. We were going to do a Valentine's craft. Okay. Okay, I see this. This is cool. Okay, I'm going to give that back to you. So let me go talk with her in there and figure out what's going on, okay? I'm going to have this other officer hang out out here for a minute, all right? So you can go sit in the car for now, okay? Get warm and then we're going to we're going to get this figured out, okay? In situations like this, officers are trained to read body language and interpret behavioral cues. At first, all they saw was a woman claiming an honest oversight. But when they reviewed the store's camera footage, it quickly became clear just how much she had been playing them. Hey Carli. Can you come on talk to me for a minute? Okay. So, they have a whole thing. They've been tracking all of your thefts for a long time. Okay? You are on camera 14 times at different Targets all over the place stealing things. Okay? So, I don't want to hear the excuses about how you were just, you know, you forgot it was underneath the thing. I mean, you have a history with Target. Okay? Luckily for you, all they want to do today is trespass you. Okay? So, you're you're not allowed to come back to this Target. If you do come back to this Target, you could get a ticket. If you remain, you can get arrested. Okay? Uh where are the Pokémon cards set things that you took today? I didn't take any Pokémon cards. Okay, she has you on video taking the Pokémon cards. Where are they? They're in my car. Okay. Cool. Do you have anything else at all from this store? Okay, that card as well? Okay. Anything in your car from this store today? No. Okay. Absolutely nothing. Cuz if we find out that you have other stuff >> with my children. Okay. So, right now I'm going to get a trespass form started. I'm going to go talk to them again, make sure they don't want charges, and you can leave here today hopefully very, very lucky. Okay? Take a seat. Walk here with me, please. All right. Go and face my car. You're going to place under arrest for retail theft. Okay? She decided she wants charges. Go and face that way for me. Just sign right here, please. >> All right, do you have anything in your pocket here? I don't think so. All right, I'm going to check your pocket really quick. Make sure there's nothing in here, okay? Nothing else on your person. I see you're wearing like yoga pants, so you shouldn't have much in there, okay? All right. Can I at least tell my husband what's going on? We'll tell him what's going on. Then grab a seat for me. Just anywhere? Yep, just scooch right in. I know it looks confusing, it's not. You can put this seat belt right over here. All right, sit tight for a second, okay? She was later booked into jail for retail theft. Just when you thought that these dumb shoplifters couldn't do anything more clueless, along comes Amanda Barber who played hooky with merchandise for more than a decade. She's peeling off stickers and putting them on adult clothing. You changed tags, didn't you? I did. Ma'am, please don't press charges. YOU GOT TO GET TASED. YOU BETTER STOP. >> YEP. YEAH, THESE stickers are gone. When the guy So, she's been coming in here On November the 20th, 2024, Georgia officers were dispatched to a Walmart after receiving a call from loss prevention officer who reported that a woman, later identified as Amanda Elizabeth Barber, was trying to play a fast one without realizing that the store's advanced camera system was capturing her every move. All right. Good. They're starting early, huh? What she did is she pulled a lot of tags from the socks. She stuck them on the watches and stuff. And then now she's um she's peeling off stickers and putting them on adult clothing. That's what she's doing. She's been here since 6:00. Jeez. Maybe she thought if she got here earlier, none of y'all wouldn't be here. Maybe. I don't know. How you been? I'm good. I'm good. All the work that we have to go do just to go separate our fish out what was stolen and what was not stolen. Goodness. So, do you want me go ahead and grab her and No, that's it. I guess we'll wait until she goes up. I told them once she gets to the register, leave her alone. She might be getting ready. She has more than that. She just put a lot of stuff back. Her bag was not halfway full. So, the altering tags is enough for us? See, they're on watches [music] and the jewelries. I've been working since 12:00 6:00 in the morning. Good lord. Is that one she added something on that? She stuffed something in there. Are you able to see the whatever she's scanning? Even has a different tag on there. See, $1, $1. That together late. But some of it is 29. So, maybe she didn't She didn't mean to go scan that $30. Colleen, so I did [music] let them know, leave her alone. She took that $30 one. She took the boy's t-shirt. Boy's t-shirt for $3.99, but it's pants. For more, don't play. This one, she didn't get a chance to go and change the tag on this one. So, is that stuff that she's not going to ring up? Yeah, cuz she took some tags out of this clothing right here. She had more than that. She had more than that. Now, she wanted to pay cash. So, are y'all just going to count towards her theft the things that she rung up and altered, like the boy's tee? Do y'all do like the difference or do y'all do the total? Well, what we do is we refund whatever she scanned, and then I will charge her with the one. The full price of the pants? I guess she stole the bedding. What else do you want to take? >> [music] >> She left a dollar. She left a dollar? Uh-huh. Let's go, neighbor. All right, what she going? She's going to get a car. Yeah. Okay. You grab it. You want to come with us? Why? Why? Okay. What did I do wrong? We're going to speak in office. We can go speak in the office. >> Okay. So, then I'll take this with you. All right, we'll just leave it here for right now. Am I going to jail? We'll talk in the office over here. When they reached the security office, they confronted her about her actions. Fully prepared for the usual denial, but she completely flipped the script in a way no one could have imagined. Have a seat for me. Have a seat right here. No. Okay. Do you have an ID card name? No, ma'am. What did I do wrong? I didn't steal anything. You changed tags, didn't you? I did. Ma'am, please don't press charges. I will I got the kids, everything coming up. Please, ma'am, don't. >> your ID? I don't, even. What's your name? >> Please don't make me go to jail. What's your name? What's your name? Amanda Barber. Hold on. Uh-uh. Hey. Hey. Ma'am. Uh-uh. Go ahead. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Hey. NO. STOP. YOU GOT TO GET TASED. YOU BETTER STOP. RIGHT HERE. I GOT KIDS. KIDS. I I'M SO SORRY. PUT YOUR hands behind your back now. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. >> down now. That's for sure. Will I get a bond? Stop. >> I'm so sorry. >> Stop moving. I'm so sorry. I'm going to definitely going to jail. >> Stop moving. >> I'm sorry. Will I get a bond when I get there? You got my body cam? Yeah. Where? But you told me No. No. You ran. I promise. Please, the kids, the holidays coming up. That's on you. I'm going to jail right now. Oh, yeah. Will I get a bond? Sure. Today, will I get a bond? Hey, hold her real quick. >> Can I bond myself out? Stop asking questions right now. Which jail will you really take me to leave me if I went to prison? Well, you lost the possibility of that. We don't know. That would have been on her. If it was just some pants, probably not. Can I call someone to come get me? >> Nope. You can wait. Do y'all let people bond themselves out? I'm sorry I ran, y'all. Do you just want to put her in the back of my car? No, I need my keys out. Sit with her. Look, put her on the floor. I'm sorry. Have a seat. Can I bond myself out with that money? Look, this is going in your pocket. Yes, sir. And I'm giving him this. Okay. That's what you left in the machine. Stupid. Once she was restrained, one of the officers headed back to the loss prevention room to fill in the gaps. Unaware he was about to hear a story that would make him shake his head. A foolish shoplifter so determined to push her luck that she seemed hell-bent on burning her bridges at Walmart. I know ma'am, the barber from years ago. She got caught shoplifting years ago when my It's not her. It's not her. It's not her ma'am. Oh, I don't know. I was asking. I'm mine. Public works in the ground 10 minutes. >> with barrel and a gun. But that's Okay, thank you. No, but we we caught her years ago. When Mark was still here. >> 1913 If that's her real name, Amanda Barber. Can you try to get her name and date of birth again? What's your name and date of birth? Amanda Barber What was your? 1986 Amanda Barber 1913 Central Co-op name and date of birth. God. Amanda Barber 86 86 white female I'm sorry. I didn't You don't have to apologize. Holidays are coming up. I have so many I got kids for the holidays. I shouldn't have Why did I do that? All right, hang tight. Will I get a warrant when I get a bond when I get up here? Possibly. You probably won't even get one till you go to the county. Can I bond myself out? I'm sure you can. I'm sorry. Are y'all going to charge me money? Yes. What? Is that a misdemeanor? Yes. What is it called? Obstruction. Amanda Barber out of LA J is invalid. Negative. She's showing 25 years at all and a TPO that states she is banned from Walmart on Watson. Mhm. And trespass. 2021 has a trespass. Is that another charge? Yeah. There You're already banned. >> Walmart You knew you were trespassed from Walmart. Good God. I'll leave this unlocked. All right. Is that her? Yeah. She was trespassed already. So, we'll get her for the trespass. So, you got I I can't access her old file. I just have She was on our old APIS case. Mhm. I remember her years ago. Years ago. It's It's only a misdemeanor When her babies were little, she was stealing like makeup and stuff like that. We sent her to jail, too. Years ago. Are they getting the amount? Yes. Yeah, they're getting the amount. It's too early for this. You're right. You're right. Yes, except just [music] except the dummy. Why would you go and run? So, why did she stop over here? I guess cuz she can't cross over there. Uh I told her she was going to get taste. Oh. I wasn't going to, but I usually get some. They stopped. Yeah. She kept on running. She crazy. You're early. Right. You're early for that. Am I going to jail? You are now. You are now. >> You actually had a chance to not. You got You have You have more um Thank you. Got it. You want me to do Oh, I still have to do her refund. Do you want me to take and account for all of the tags that she tore off? Or just the attempted? Um just the one that is went through the register. And I I need those merchandise, too. The one that she stole. That was in her pocket. Okay. So, 78 86. So, she's trespassed, too. Yep. Yeah, these teenagers are gone when they got her. So, she's been coming in here. She She looks different, though. Yeah, well, like she was banned from a lot of stores, like Academy and I think Target. Really? Yeah. For me. So, you know with the with the You don't have to go burn anything under this. You can You can do our file. Yeah, that sounds good. Cool. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. We appreciate it. Police station is on the way to the city. Same time. Yeah. No more today. You did you do Or at least wait till after lunch. See you. We're good. I'm walking the bond today. I don't know, ma'am. That That's something that the jail and the courts deal. I'm I'm not I don't do that. You'll find out when you go to Perry. Take these off the cart. We will when we get in there. After all was said and done, Amanda was sentenced to 10 years in prison for theft, criminal trespass, obstructing a police officer, and three prior shoplifting convictions. Meet 38-year-old Ashley, a serial shoplifter who returned to shoplift from a Walmart after multiple trespass warnings. Uh I have a female at you for shoplifting here at Walmart for the trespass twice out here. Okay. Do you have anything in your backpack that you haven't paid for? No. So, all the tags that were in that um sanitary thing, those are the clothes that are in your backpack. On March the 30th, 2025, officers responded to a Walmart store after receiving a report of an ongoing shoplifting. They rushed over, completely unaware that they were about to come face-to-face with the queen of shoplifting herself. What's going on? That's my partner. Uh I have a female at you for shoplifting here at Walmart for the trespass twice out here. Okay. I just want to watch her. Okay. Wait for you guys. What's she doing now? She has a cart full of stuff. I'm marking her today's off. I can see her backpack. Okay. All right, where's she at? Uh she is currently at apparel on aisle five. Okay. So, if I mean, if she's been trespassed from here already, I mean, I'm just going to address this now instead of letting her, you know, obviously just do that, especially we're 10 minutes till shift change. Right. I didn't know that. Yeah. No, you're good. You're good. I figured that So, But is something I can address now and I didn't know about it till I called you guys. Yeah, no worries. No worries. Yeah, and uh the district officer is out in the parking lot dealing with a whole 'nother thing, so >> Oh, okay. it's it's a busy day, so It shouldn't take too long. She I think last time she was being compliant, so Okay. I think she's hiding cuz she knows who you are and she's still doing the same thing back there. Wow. Yeah. I have stopped her before. She looked straight at me and just kept walking. Is it Ashley? Yeah, what's her It's What's her last name? A- A- Oh, okay. Yeah, that sounds Ashley. Do you know off chance of when she was trespassing here? I got her on a hold up the fire. Okay, no worries. No worries. She had one She had one for March and one for April. Did that hurt? No, no. She's She's wearing a face mask, you know. Okay. Will you make your way to the back of the store where near the restrooms? Apparently she's a shoplifter. Took an item. Yeah, she's charged. and tossed it back in the back of her Okay. Like I don't know the officer last time when we got her shop, I don't know if he checked the purse or not cuz he had her go outside. Okay. Do we know where she would It was like in a purse where she tucked all that stuff? >> her book bag. In her book bag? Okay. I think it's still in her Okay. Is that her car right there? >> Yeah, that's her And she's been marking the barcodes and Okay. She's been here two times before and uh last time was like two grand of stuff. Jeez. That's ridiculous. Okay, do you know if she came here in a vehicle or she Um Not sure? I'm not sure. Probably did. Okay, no worries. Yeah, I think she did because last time they thought they had a She had like a driver, so when she was ready to go but apparently she didn't, so >> Okay. I think she had a vehicle. Okay. Did she go to jail the last time? I have no clue. I don't we will have to probably put that. I know. I wanted to know. I wait I watched her for 3 and 1/2 hours of my shift. Wow. I mean it's $2100, but it was right at 11:00 when we were closing. Mhm. And I wait I stayed over an hour just watching. Right. Right. Geez. Yeah, I know. I was mad. I didn't get It's an hour I didn't get back. I I don't want to overtime. They're right. No, I I'm going to get it. >> She is third stall. >> you doing? I haven't seen you in like forever. >> Third stall. Uh she's going to have these the stuff >> the bag in here? And most likely in her book bag. >> not leave the book bag in here? Cuz I didn't see her grab it into the bathroom. She put I don't see it in here. Oh, she did. Um She tears >> Apparently she has trespassed in here. That's the last time she said she tears the tags off because she didn't want it to beep at the door. So, is this what we're looking at then? Well, this is what she did. There's nothing in it. So, we're assuming what she probably has concealed at least. Okay. But she's trespassed. >> least that. So, she's been trespassed previously. Yeah. Yeah, I'm going to She was trespassed trespassed when I stopped her, but I didn't know that. >> Right. Meanwhile, the female officer proceeded directly to the women's restroom. The officer suspected Ashley was hiding there after a thorough sweep of the store revealed no sign of her presence. For all they cared, she was good at making a clean escape and could have possibly made her way out of the building. Hey Ashley, it's Officer Engles with the police department. You need to come out. Okay, well, hurry it up. My body camera's on as well. While waiting for Ashley to come out of the restroom, the female officer took a moment to look over the damage. And what she saw said it all. The suspect had clearly pushed [music] her luck way too far. So, when she comes out of here, I'm going to uh actually I need to go check the stall. Anyway, um I'll have to go check the stall, so I'll go ahead and bring her out here. I'll go check the stall and then I'll ask her about her backpack and everything. There's some makeup products in This is definitely That was ripped open. This looks like a shirt tag and probably awkward football. I don't know where she hid it or But, this is what she did so she was walking around. This is what we got again. After reviewing the evidence, it was time to confront the suspect and not even hiding in the restroom could save her now. Do you have anything in your backpack that you haven't paid for? That you've taken out of packages? No. Okay. Do you mind if I look? It's mine. I didn't take that. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. They've got you on video. All right? So, you just might as well cooperate. It's going to be a lot better for you. I don't understand. I didn't steal anything. I'm taking Xanax out of packages. I didn't steal anything. Okay. Go ahead and have a seat there. >> [clears throat] >> Yeah, you can use that one, yeah. Oh, no. >> I'm not afraid to go through this crap, so I'm not sure if you think I am, but Okay, go ahead and leave your backpack. Come with me. Go to the right. Just come over here. Do you want to look at the video? Look at the video. I can't. >> Yeah, I mean I can't. We don't need to do that. I'll just arrest her for trespassing and I can search the backpack. She was trespassed. Okay. So That's how we'll do it. All right, that's fine with me. Go ahead and put these in that package. >> Okay, thank you. >> [snorts] >> Okay. Go ahead and give me your sweatshirt. Will you take the backpack off, please? Sir, did they get verified she has been trespassed? They said dispatch did not. They did not see. >> up on my system. I forgot. You forgot your trespass? You were told that you were trespassed from here? I and I forgot. Okay. All right, go ahead and turn around. You're being arrested for criminal trespass cuz you are not supposed to be here at Walmart. Please be careful with my iPhone. Okay. Okay, do you have anything on your person that you shouldn't have? Anything on your body? Nothing? No? Okay. All right. We're going to head up to the security office. Okay. Do I have to do you want to you want to Yeah, you want to do this? While the officers were getting ready to question her in the security office, they couldn't help but wonder if she really knew what she was doing or if something else was going on. Her slurred speech and confused answers suggested possible mental disability. Although it looked genuine, they could not know if it wasn't just a trick straight out of some old shoplifting handbook. Okay, so Speak up just a little bit for me so I can hear you, but so What was the intentions today? They mostly was for my daughter. Okay, so you were going to purchase the stuff that was in the cart, but yet the other stuff you were not. That's why all the tags are off of them, the box folds were off of them, and they're in the I didn't steal nothing. I didn't steal nothing. The boxes were all open. Nothing. Okay. Yeah, my animal backpack was closed. I didn't take anything out of my pockets. I didn't know if anything was in there. Okay. Just the clothes. Yes. Okay. So, all the tags that were in that um the sanitary thing, those are the clothes that are in your backpack. Right? Okay. Do you want to go through all that? And I'm going to go ahead and do my notice to appear for the criminal trespass and the retail theft. Yeah. Okay. Yep, that works. I'll take care of this. She can disregard. I'm just going to release her on a couple notice to appears. So, what's the other half of that? Okay. Well, what I'm doing right now is I'm trying to I'm trying to uh put everything down in a way where I can show that tags were [music] ripped off. Oh, okay. Do you have someone getting a training receipt for like all of those that we have that were torn off? You want me to? I can. I I would say yeah. Cuz I think there's a retail theft charge for removal of So, you want all the tags? Yeah. Okay. All right. You mind just hanging out over there till the bill gets done? Okay. Okay. >> photograph you need me to photograph the other car? I don't No, I don't think so cuz we don't we don't have anything. She didn't go past last point of sale. She had concealed this in her backpack in the restroom. She had these stuff. Yeah. Whatever that is in there. Okay. So, I got up there and they they found the bolts of this. Okay. Okay. So, I found that one. Right. These are unknowns though. So, I don't know. Okay. And there's a tag for something that I can look up. Look up. Okay. That was Yeah, that's a clothing item. Missy flow shirt, black. What? Yeah, they watched you on camera. No. Take these out of the box. >> not. I did not. I did not. I did not. I did not. I did not. I did not. Well, where are they? I didn't touch anything. Okay. Do you want to answer questions about those boxes and then they watched you take the items out of it. >> freaking touch the damn things. And they watched you do it. I don't care what they saw on camera. I didn't touch nothing like that. The clothes in the car are mine. >> out from all the tags. >> But I didn't touch or open anything. $102. I don't even know what the heck it is. Okay. Did you take pictures and send them in for me? I haven't sent them in yet. Um I will when I get back up. All right. Okay. All right. Apparently, this is all the stuff that she had concealed in her backpack, so I just took photos of these. Yep. I'm not sure I don't think he took photos of those. But I can't It's not necessary. Um because yeah, I mean that stuff didn't The stuff Yeah, the stuff that the snags were taken off of and Right. Come on up here, come and have you sign these. Just shows that I gave them to you. Your court date on both of these is going to be April 28th at 9:00 in the morning, okay? The two misdemeanor charges, one for the criminal trespass and one for the retail theft. You have everything that's yours now. You get your sweatshirt and stuff. Everything, okay. All right. They're going to be on your record. They sure are. Go ahead and sign right there for me. Just shows that I've explained the court date and what your charges are. Okay, and you are trespassed from here again. We have it in our records as well, okay? These are your copies. Um like I said, April 28th at 9:00 for the two charges, okay? Here you go. You can grab your backpack. Two weeks later, officers received a call reporting that Ashley was back to the store again. Now it was clear to them that the suspect had ears for decoration, and this time they were not going to let her off easy. She's marked out tags quite a few times but previously and has been trespassed Okay, we're sure to at least once. She's over by the Sitting there waiting to leave? Okay. All right. Do you know her name? I don't. I'm sorry. It's okay. Our AP was tied up on a phone call, so one of our who has dealt with her before Mhm. is over with them So I'm just observing. Yep, observing. I know. We've asked her to leave multiple times before, and then I know that she has been trespassed Okay. Awesome. Wow. Yeah, [laughter] excuse me. Right here. Hello. Okay. Hello. Hey, so do you have an ID on you by chance? No. What's your name? I don't have one. You don't have a name? Ma'am. Can I talk to you for a second? Can I see what she stole the bag? Um, didn't make contact with her until you got here. And then anything that you have Let's shut the door. Okay. In the end, she was charged with battery on an LEO and trespass. Up next is Taylor Wyatt, a cold-hearted shoplifter who thought she could cry her way out of getting [snorts] arrested for shoplifting after she got caught. >> Right now you're being detained for INVESTIGATION OF THEFT. GO ahead and put your hands behind your back, please. >> to do anything. What did I do? Stop. No, please. Please, I paid for it all. I paid for everything you paid for. I told her I had it, too. I HATE THAT, PLEASE. On September the 2nd, 2023, dispatch responded to a grocery store after a report of a woman, later identified as Taylor Wyatt, trying to leave with unpaid dairy items. Officers arrived just in time to find out that she was already on her bicycle ready to make a getaway. The moment she spotted them, she pulled an unexpected stunt, one that would eventually earn her the dubious title of queen of shoplifting. Hey there. Hey. Police, stop. >> Stop. I'm fine. >> You're not free to go. I didn't do anything. Okay, you're not free to go. All right, so stop walking away from me. >> god, no. Okay? Why don't you set your stuff down and talk to me, please? >> No, because I'm going to buy something. Please, stop. Put your stuff down. No, what did I do? Right now you're being detained for investigation of theft. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back, please. I didn't mean to do anything. What did I do? Like I said, you're being detained for investigation of theft, okay? Stop. No, please. Please. Dispatching a female. >> Okay, like I said you're being detained not arrested, okay? Do you have any weapons on you? No, I don't. What's your warrant for? Okay. Okay. Come on and sit in here. We're going to sit in my car and then we're going to talk, okay? Just so you know, we're being recorded on my body camera, okay? What's your name? I'm not taking you anywhere. I'm just putting you in my car right now. What's your name? Taylor what? Taylor what? Wyatt? Okay. Go ahead and step in here for me. Yeah, let me get this out of your hand real quick. Okay, you're not going anywhere just yet, okay? >> [laughter] >> Put your Put your feet in the car and I'm going to go get your stuff so it doesn't walk away, okay? After placing her in the police cruiser, they decided to search her bag hoping to find evidence to back up the store's claim. But as they went through her bag, they found more than just evidence. Check that for us, Taylor Wyatt. I saw the car leave. Was there anything in the car? It's not her bag. Okay. What ain't stolen in the bag? Yeah, I can see like is it just dairy like milk or something like that? >> cold diner. Did she pay for anything? Just the minute maid. Just the minute maid? Yeah. Okay. She like butter and probably like a drinkable yogurt. So, I think she has the receipt in her hand. Freeze it. Just when they felt that they had enough evidence and were ready to make their next move, they had no idea that they were about to get a front row seat to the worst kind of meltdown. I'm paying for him. And then you pay for it. I told her I had a juice. And I It's right. All right. I'm going to advise you of your rights right now, okay? Please, no. You're under arrest UNDER WARRANT. >> NO. NO. NO, I DON'T WANT TO STOP. NO. NO, I'M SUPPOSED TO see my kids. You have the right to remain silent. ANYTHING YOU NO. AGAINST YOU IN A COURT OF LAW. [ __ ] I HATE THAT PLACE. PLEASE, NO. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT AT THIS TIME to talk TO A LAWYER. HAVE A LAWYER WITH YOU WHILE YOU'RE BEING QUESTIONED. IF YOU cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you BEFORE ANY QUESTIONING. IF YOU DECIDE AT ANY TIME TO EXERCISE these rights, not answer any questions, or make any statements, >> Officer, please don't take me. Do you understand each of these rights? Please, no. I'm going for an eviction and I was trying to get it taken care of. Do you understand these rights I explained to you? >> [laughter] >> No, I don't want to go. Please, please, please. I hate that place. Don't take You have the right to remain silent. Something I read that you're not Please, no. I can't talk to you, okay? So, I swear I said it was in there and she rang it up. I'll pay for it, please. All right. Turn [laughter] around. Please, no. Please, no, no, no, no. Don't take me. Officer, please. I hate that jail. Please, please, please. No. I was just getting it taken care of. It's non-crossable, [crying] so you can't get it taken care Yes, I can. Right? NO, I CAN'T. WHY? PLEASE. I'll be right with her to the jail. Starting mileage is 91.0. Also, Why don't you care? I never said you were a bad person. I never called you crazy. All I said was that you were detained for investigation of theft. And then you have a warrant. Okay. After I arrested you on your warrant, searched your purse, I found what looks like to be drugs in there. So, you're being booked on theft, you're being booked on controlled substance possession, and you're being booked on your warrants, okay? That's the way it goes. The jail accepted you on your warrants. No, they always do. It's a DV warrant, and it's non-crossable. No, I don't want to be here. Uh, just going to hold on to this. I'm going to take it out. I found it in this purse. What's her name? Uh, Taylor Wyatt. Uh, Uh, I haven't had a chance to really go through this purse. I'm going to take it out now. That's her purse in there, and I'll take it out. I'll give you what you can have. Yay. And you said she's had her little tail on a DV warrant. Yeah, it's a DV assault warrant. She's got a theft third as well. New charges 24 hours last time. Nobody would talk to me. I won't do that this time. When's the last time you used? When's the last time you Earlier today. I used to [ __ ] blaze. I've only been wanting to But I said I would pay for it. I I see it was missed on the [ __ ] receipt. I was literally doing that and I was like she didn't Great call. And her ass Okay, I'm going to take this hair tie off. She said she was going to take the hair tie off and put it on >> [laughter] >> What was your name? At this point it was obvious that the cops were not buying her cries and seemingly remorseful pleas. She knew there was no way out or perhaps there was if she made things more emotional. Can I see my baby today? W Y A T T Keep breath. No. Can I take your jewelry off? Do you need help? Can I help you? I just can't do this, dude. They wouldn't talk to me the last time. Come on. Is that why you're crying? No, I just got out of bed and [ __ ] week. My attorney said he was going in this week to court to watch me more than for me cuz I got it mixed up. Cuz I'm getting evicted. I have nowhere to [ __ ] go. I lost my kid. I'm not a bad person and then I have to go here. I hate it here. No, it doesn't work. Taylor was later charged with third degree theft and possession of a controlled substance. Unlike Taylor who resorted to crying as a strategy when she got caught, this dumb serial shoplifter learned the hard way after she tried to rip off a store of merchandise worth thousands. You guys are [music] ripping magnet tags off of stuff and taking stuff out of the store. >> nothing. All right, then what's May I see Look inside your purse. I'm turning on my phone. So essentially what they're saying is you guys took five pairs of jeans and two pairs of Birkenstocks. Have you ever been arrested for retail theft before? Yeah, I have in the past. >> Okay, and I'm just asking. Yeah. On July the 31st, 2023, officers received a call reporting an active shoplifting incident involving two women. Upon their arrival, they immediately confronted the suspects while being fully prepared for the predictable resistance and denial that often follows when clueless shoplifters are caught in the act. >> What's going on? Mason Neveling, police department. I'm wearing a camera. Have you been going to a lot of stores lately? No. So we've been getting calls about you two ripping off magnet tags. What? Ripping off magnet tags? I just came out of American Eagle. So security said they've seen you guys rip off multiple magnet tags off stuff. >> seen me do that? We can go back to American Eagle. Area isn't for you to go, all right? You guys are staying right here, all right? >> No, I'm saying we can go to American Eagle. That's where we just left. We just came in here. All right. You guys are not free to leave. We're going to figure it out till we figure out what's going on, all right? I That's what we've been told we have to go off of, all right? >> We just walked in here. I don't know. They said you were in American Eagle, Foot Locker. >> I walked in Finish Line and asked for some Why he didn't say nothing to me? So, I'm So, we figure out what's going on. Ma'am, you want to come over here? What we got to do though? What we got to do? Do you mind opening up your purse so we see what So, make sure there's no items in there that might be stolen. That's crazy. No. All right, that's fine. So, we've got multiple people saying that we've seen it. We've got multiple people saying otherwise, and usually what happens they put it in their purse. Well, we need to go back to American Eagle or Finish Line. >> from both of them. Uh no, we're going to have a My other officer is going to come here and we're going to figure out what's going on, all right? So, we got to stand right here. Yep. So, where you What What What's going on with the magnet tags? I don't know what they're talking about. Nobody got a magnet tag. Why didn't they say nothing to us? Well, usually they don't say anything, they just report it and then we come out. It's normally a standard practice for the No, you're not. You're going to stand right here. I'm not under I'm not a Yes, you are. You're being detained. How? Cuz we've got multiple calls from security saying that you guys are ripping magnet tags off, put stuff, and taking stuff out of the store. >> nothing. All right, then what's May I see Look inside your purse? Yeah, you can look inside my purse. What What What I want to know is at what point did they say you guys because >> Cuz they described black female, black shirt, gray sweats, black female. >> Where my purse at? What I haven't had a purse since you seen me. Call him back over here. He is He's over there. Call him back over here. He ain't seen me with a purse since I've been in here. And I seen him in American Eagle, and I walked down to Finish Line, he walked by over there. I haven't had a purse since I came in this mall. All right. Like I said, that's what the information we've been given. Uh did you get your name real quick? Yeah, here. You were saying what I were here? Yeah, they said that they got us on camera. Well, my problem is that I had I had security on They've seen you guys on camera take jeans from American Eagle, take tags off of your purse, and drop it off in your car. Hold on. Let's go to American Eagle. So, I have I don't have a purse. Exactly. I don't have that purse. Ain't nothing in there. I ain't been I didn't take >> why you guys wanted to go to the car. That's why you guys wanted to go to the car and dropped it off. >> You didn't drop nothing off. No. Didn't see me nothing. No. I didn't take anything. I haven't had a purse. No. Not No. Don't put me with that. No. Come on. Tell me to the camera. Show that. Can we walk down there? I want to see this camera. No. >> They They saying magnet can't magnets. Are you sure it's not my purse? No. Exactly. Please. So, can we Please put it on camera. No. I don't have no We don't have no camera. Why do we have multiple people telling me the same thing? >> We got to go. Hold on. YOU SAID YOU SEEN ME IN THE MALL. WE LITERALLY JUST WENT TO AMERICAN Eagle and then we went to Foot Locker. This is Foot Locker. This is Finish LINE. THIS IS WHERE I WORK AT. I WORK AT FINISH LINE. Come on. Come on. Let's go to the store. You said WE CAN WALK. I'M NOT GOING NOWHERE. NO. I mean Finish Line right here. >> Uh if I looked in your purse, would you have a sensor remover in there? No. Okay, can I look in your purse? So, when you look through my purse, what What do we do from there? So, we're just going to say that you have that in there. That's all I need to see. Okay. >> [music] >> Do you remember Remember Remember us talking about we're being straight with you? Be straight with us. Has he said he looked in your purse? Yeah. No, he didn't look in my purse. So, when you go in here and you see it ain't no remover, what's going to happen? Can we go? That's just That's just a piece of the puzzle we're trying to figure out but we're getting claims that there might be one in there. How we both put it something in one purse? This money. These tampons. I got money to shop. Okay. All right. Do you Look, can you look again, please, so you can let him know? I have cash on me. And I'm coming to get some pants. >> No, it was It's on That's it. That's how I got a whole bunch of cash. But I'm just saying how Ain't no sensor For a moment, she thought that she had outsmarted the officers but after a careful review of the consistent reports, the officers quickly changed their minds. All right, man. What's your name? Here. All right. Ma'am, to have you turn around and put your hands behind your back. I didn't steal nothing. Ma'am, put your hands behind your back. I didn't steal nothing. Stop. Just listen. We're trying to help you out, okay? I did not steal nothing. Stop. Stop. Or you're going to go for resisting. For what? Why are you trying to take me to jail? Ma'am, stop. Why are you pulling me? Stop. Why are you pulling me? >> Stop. Why are you pulling me? Ma'am, you're under arrest. >> For what? Stand up. For what? For what? For what? I didn't take nothing. What What do you have? WHAT DO I HAVE? WHAT ARE YOU HOLDING ME? WHAT ARE YOU HOLDING ME FOR? WHAT ARE YOU HOLDING ME FOR? I put it down in my bag. What are you holding me for? What did I do? FOR WHAT? OW! YOU KEEP PULLING AWAY. I'm not. I'm talking to you. What did I take? You don't got nothing on me. >> Table it. We're going to keep on looking for that car. Is you serious? All right. You guys can go ahead and walk away. Is you serious? Just keep walking. Keep on walking. Is you serious? You just check You just checked my bag. Yeah, but they're saying different. What What is it? You'll find out. What What is it? So So tell me. >> I don't need to tell you. Cuz you Why not? You You detained me. You're supposed to tell me what I'm under arrest for. >> Retail theft. I just told you. >> What? What did I take? We already We already discussed that. Y'all just checked my bag. Yeah, but And then y'all was looking for a magnet. Nope. So what is you talking about? >> Retail theft. What did I take? American Eagle. I didn't take nothing from American Eagle. Go this way. Is you serious? I didn't take nothing from American Eagle. That's Amaya's bag. All right. I don't have nothing on me. So can I show you how much it is so you can see? It's right in front of you. Wholesale American Eagle bag. You can take the bag. I'm not trying to do nothing. >> Okay. All right. Y'all doing all of this for for what? Which vehicle is yours out here? I don't got no vehicle out here. This This kind of tight on my arm right here. All right. I'm not trying to move and do nothing. Yeah, can I get my Can you have my sister and she's not the same? Can I talk to her? Yeah, what's up? In her bra. All right. I'll take those. Yeah, I'm going to. >> You can You can take them. >> Okay, please hold still. But can I Can you tell my sister what's what's going on? That's all I ask. Listen, I will give you the keys. >> I have to get them because you're at the station right now. Okay. >> Are they They're sitting right here? Yes. >> Okay, what's the easier way? From the bottom or the top you think? I don't want to get too much in your business. Is the stuff just in the top of your bra? Yeah. >> Okay, all right. Give me 1 second, okay? Go ahead. I'm so sorry. Okay. So far, yeah. What's this? These are my house keys. House keys? Okay. Yeah, and my car keys. We'll get you in the car. Can you have her come out here? >> We will. She already talked to her down before. Y'all ruined all of that extra stuff it was. He's going to go get an itemized list of stuff from American Eagle that was taken, okay? That's where we're at. I'm going to go ahead and read you your Miranda, all right? Yes, ma'am. So, it looks like Is that your sister? Yeah. Sister? Okay, it looks like she's not going to be hooked for anything today. She's going to be able to go. Okay. Just so you know. I know you were worried about what was going on with her and Okay, can I talk to her before? >> we'll see when she comes out. They're still answering questions with her. Um So, essentially what they're saying is you guys took five pairs of jeans and two pairs of Birkenstocks. Birkenstocks? Like sandals? I never took no Birkenstocks and I never took no jeans. >> Okay, they're doing an We're making them do an inventory right now. >> Can you play Is it a camera? Can you Can Can they show the camera? So, we're working on that too. They can see. I did not take nothing. >> Okay, so what happened? Why are they saying Like and I honestly like I walked in and I don't know you guys, I don't know them, I don't know what's going on, right? So, we're trying to figure out what the hell actually happened. This was the moment the suspect had been waiting for. No matter the evidence the cops had against her, she was hell-bent on proving an innocence that never existed. >> We literally came in. Okay. We looked around. She was the heavy set girl was talking to my sister cuz they both heavy set. And she was talking about some jeans. >> Okay. I was looking around. I came back. We left out. We went to Finish Line. Okay. The man was My sister was like she want these shoes. And she was like is these men shoes cuz she got big feet. >> Right. They was like yeah. So we like we going to come back and get them. Okay. And then that's when we went over there to Is that Aeropostale right there that Aeropostale, yeah, yeah. Aeropostale. >> Okay. And then we got to talking to her. I was going to buy some jeans and then the jeans like I got money. >> Right. I hear you. So like I never took no Birkenstocks. I never took no jeans out there. Can they please get the camera so they can see me? So they're saying where you were standing though a bunch of tags were ripped off of stuff and left. >> Listen, just because the tags was ripped off that don't mean I took nothing. They tried to say I had a sensor removed. I don't got nothing. How can y'all hold somebody you y'all don't got no evidence? Y'all don't got no evidence of no But the store doesn't have any reason to lie, right? >> Yeah. But they don't have any reason to lie. That's why we're trying to piece it But sometimes they be sitting over there thinking that I took something and then whole time they didn't take nothing. And that's why we're trying to piece together and get an inventory list to match. That's all. Like I didn't I didn't take nothing out of there like Okay. I got kids that I that I'm that I go to. Have you ever been arrested for retail theft before? Yeah, I have in the past. >> Okay. And I'm just asking. >> Yeah, no that that's fine. >> Like over in Champaign or in Over here over in Champaign before but >> Okay. Beside me I'm trying to I'm not trying to take nothing no more. That's why I got money. I got my [ __ ] together. >> I hear you. I hear you. Like I got a whole purse and I'm and that's not meaning nothing cuz people still do that but they need to look at that camera. I didn't take >> that's what they're working on right now and they're going to get an inventory list to match. >> what's going to happen from here? So they're going to look at the cameras, get an inventory list and then they're going to come out and talk to us and let us know what the camera showed and all that. So my partner's in there looking at it and he'll be right back out here. >> So >> um can my sister come get me? Uh well, it depending. I mean, if there's camera footage of you taking stuff, then obviously you're going to go to jail, but then you'll be able to bond out. Yeah. >> So, when like can I bond out today? Yeah, you should be able to bond out today. Like what >> I mean, so there's levels of retail theft, right? If it's over $300, then it's a felony. If it's under, it's a misdemeanor. I'm guessing five pairs of jeans is going to be right at I don't know. I don't know how much they're selling for. >> took no five pairs of jean. But I'm just explaining to you like the process, right? I ain't trying to be hooked on nothing because I didn't got my life together. I ain't been taking nothing. I ain't been doing nothing. I've been just trying to work, go to school, do you and get that and just get my [ __ ] together. Yeah. Okay. Well, you said when you showed up to something, we got to go. >> August 16th. My birthday August 16th. I'm going to be 30. Okay. All right. Well, like I said, when we respond to this, we take every we take it seriously. We don't want to arrest somebody if they shouldn't be arrested, right? So, that's why they're taking their time trying to get all the if >> If that's all that's all I ask. Can y'all please look over the camera? That's what they're doing right now. Okay? >> And if they look over the camera and they see I ain't taking, can I go? Yeah, if there's no evidence, then yeah. So, just hang tight for me for a few minutes and we'll go from there. Okay? She continued lying, forgetting that the store's cameras were witnesses who could neither tell a lie nor be bribed. So, essentially you went back there into the back corner, started rummaging through some clothing, making a mess, and took a knee, and I took a what? Bent down, put put the clothes in your purse, and when they come to the exact same location where you were standing, they found four tags miraculously where you were standing. I didn't take nothing, though. Go Where the camera at? >> And then you came in originally with a bag full of stuff. With a bag full of stuff. >> your bag's empty. I didn't come And then when where you walked by on the exit, there's a pair of jeans with one with a tag directly in the pocket right where you were standing at. For you. And then also this was on your pants. I was up in there, though. Same pair same pair of jeans that was stolen. I didn't take none. They was on there. Uh-huh. Then how they get on your pants? They was on there cuz I was grabbing them. I can lift it up. I can pull them up. Who said I can't touch it? >> So, when you pick something up, you don't just rub it against your pants like that? >> came off cuz it was already coming off. I didn't take nothing. We We've got more than enough to take you for retail theft, so >> What What is this for? >> as well when we go to our possible I see unseen, I see you with a pair of jeans, and you see me put those jeans down. That same pair of jeans So, social came up and said the tag was removed from that pair of jeans. No, they was not. How did that tag get them off that pair of jeans you were holding? How? I You just You looked in my thing and you seen that I didn't have no sensor remover. >> check your sister. Go check her. >> I don't know where she's at. So, y'all let her go? She We didn't have charges on her. Okay. So, we're You good? Get in the car. Is you serious? >> Yep. Y'all don't even got nothing on me. I thought y'all said y'all had a camera. >> We We've got more than enough. They're working on that right now. >> How? Y'all don't even got a camera. Get in the car. Is you Is you serious right now? YEP. WHERE YOU AT? THAT'S THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID. YEAH, but you have priors. What does What does that mean? Makes it an automatic felony. How does that make it an automatic felony? That was years ago. It's still your priors for retail theft. So, they automatically making it a felony? Yes. When did they start doing that? Uh since the law was created, I believe. They ain't They ain't never did did that. E- Even when I had like a prior for felony for driving. This is crazy. Y'all did it fine. [ __ ] y'all don't even got a camera, and you Y'all putting it as a felony? She was eventually charged with resisting arrest and theft. Speaking of when dumb shoplifters return after stealing thousands, this hapless pilferer got caught after what seemed like a successful shopping spree. So basically they saw her conceal merchandise, right? She got to the register and she only paid for some. She didn't pay for all. When they grabbed her, she had stuff from other stores. On September the 13th, 2025, a woman walked into a Sephora store, but instead of shopping like a regular customer, she decided to take a five-finger discount at the store's [music] expense. Her luck ran out when loss prevention officers caught her on camera attempting to leave with unpaid merchandise and to call the police. When the officers arrived and spoke with loss prevention, they were handed shocking details [music] of what returned what seemed like a simple shoplifting incident into something far more serious. So basically they saw her conceal merchandise, right? She got to the register and she only paid for some. She didn't pay for all. And then she exited the store. So that's when they grabbed her. When they grabbed her, she had stuff from other stores. So they went to the stores to find out, you know, if they wanted to press charges. Um all the other stores don't want to press charges. They just wanted their merchandise back. However, Bloomingdale's does want to, but she's claiming that she paid for it.
