Sheriff, >> just to confirm, we have three officers hit. Is that >> Get out of here. >> Open the door. >> Sheriff's office. >> I'm bleeding. Where you at? >> In the chest. Where? In the chest. Where in the chest? Stay with me, P. >> Cops wear body cameras to capture everything on the job. The calls, the arrests, and even those life-threatening encounters. But sometimes those same cameras end up recording their own tragic end. [ __ ] I think I'm being shot. [panting] Yeah. Well, damn it. There's two of them. I think I've been shot. I can't I don't know where. I've got blood on my face. I don't know where I've been shot. >> Here are terrifying moments when cops were on their own body cam. Starting with the horrifying body cam recording of two Queensland constables who lost their lives after being ambushed by a religiously motivated extremist group. >> Uh he shot Rachel, I believe. I think she's dead. Um she shot him, I think. No, he's still walking. >> They're coming. They're shooting the other two officers. On December the 12th, 2022, four police constables, Matthew Arnold, [music] Rachel McRoe, Randall Kirk, and Key Bro arrived in separate police vehicles on a property in Weamilla, Australia, belonging to Gareth [music] Train to conduct a check on the property as part of an ongoing missing person case. Gareth's brother, Nathaniel Train, had been missing for months with no useful information [music] regarding his whereabouts. But when Nathaniel's aranged second wife, who had lodged the missing person report, started receiving threatening messages from her ex-husband's brother, the police immediately knew that they had [music] found a suspect. So, they decided to conduct a welfare check at the suspect's residence. Upon their arrival, they leaped over the front gate into the large yard, completely unaware that they were stepping into the jaws of the grim reaper. >> Chilly. Chilly. Red [music] girls. >> She's our newest first year. As they approached the house, shots suddenly [music] erupted from multiple directions. In that instant, the grim truth became clear. They had walked straight into an ambush, and the missing person [music] report was nothing more than a trap to lure the police into the line of fire. The train brothers had harbored a deep hatred for law enforcement and often referred to them as devils. Two of the officers were shot while the other two ran to safety. From their hiding place, one of the officers put a call across to the [music] police department to let them know what was happening. >> Hey buddy, how you got? >> Uh, he shot Rachel, I believe. I think she's dead. Um, >> she shot him, I think. No, he's still walking. He's trying to walk around me. >> Do they know where you are? >> Yes, they do. >> Can you like obviously scramble from tree to tree to try and retreat out of there? Try and do that. >> I can try. Please be here. >> When he saw one of the shooters closing in on his hideout, he made a bold move, uncertain whether it would save him or seal his fate. >> They're coming. They shoot the other two officers. You good? I've lost a shoe. I've got blood on my face. I don't know where I've been shot. >> Although he managed to escape, another officer was still in hiding and needing to be urgently rescued. After 2 hours, the female officer [music] in hiding was rescued by a team of officers, and the of the wounded officers were also retrieved. At first, the police wanted to take the perpetrators alive. So, they initiated a negotiation with the hope of a [music] peaceful surrender. But after hours of waiting in vain, they decided to bring the [music] standoff to an end. In the end, two officers lost their lives alongside the perpetrators. In another case of cops losing their lives on their own body camera, officer Zach Parish's life was cut short by a maniac during a 911 call response. >> Naked hung at me. I appeared for my health and my safety like he was at me. >> And what was your name? >> Matthew. >> Where did it take him? >> M1. >> Sheriff's office. >> PARISH. CAN YOU HEAR ME? On December the 31st, 2017, officers from the Douglas County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call from a man later identified as Matthew Reel, reporting an escalated argument between him and his roommate. They rushed over to the apartment where they saw a sign by the doorpost that stated that the homeowner was an Army veteran with PTSD and access to weapons. But that didn't stop them from interrogating the occupants of the house. >> He kept hung at me. I appeared for my health and my safety. like he was at me. >> And what was your name? >> Matthew. >> What's going on tonight? >> Yeah, well, my roommate freaked out on me and came at me. I even like put a laser in his face. >> Come out here with this guy right here. >> You mind if I come in and talk with you, sir? >> Is he on anything? Is he have any mental disabilities or Not that I know of. >> Did you guys get in a physical altercation tonight? >> Okay. I'm just going to get your name in, sir, and then I'm going to get out of here. Okay. What's your first name again? >> Matthew. >> Matthew. Zack. Good to meet you. After talking to both roommates, they left [music] the apartment. But 2 hours later, they got a call from the same apartment reporting a domestic violence situation. When they arrived at the apartment, they started talking to the caller, who simply told them that [music] he wanted a domestic restraining order before slamming the door in their faces. At that point, they decided to make the hard call. >> Well, I don't think there's anyone else in there. No, >> we're going to take him one. >> Now inside the apartment, they discovered that he had barricaded himself inside his bedroom. Quite unsure what he was up to, they decided to tread with caution. But no amount of caution could wave off the looming doom. Sheriff's office. >> Hey, I'M GOING. COVER ME. >> With the unexpected turn of events, they immediately called for medical attention because they all got hit at least once. >> Completed. Where you at? In the chest. Where? In the chest. Where in the chest? Stay with me, Paul. Anybody over here? >> In front of us. >> Ready. >> One, two, three. >> We got you. >> Backseat of my truck. Let's go. >> Ready. >> One's got a chest with one shot in the arm. >> While the wounded officers were being rushed to the hospital, they made an unsettling discovery that made their stomachs not in fear. One of the wounded officers was still trapped inside the House of Horror. At that moment, they knew that they had to call in the SWAT team, who didn't arrive until AFTER A WHILE. >> PARISH, CAN YOU HEAR ME? YEAH, he's shoot diagonally down. [music] After hours of exchanging fire, the SWAT team finally got the shooter down and also retrieved the [music] wounded officer. But it already seems too late. He lost his life before they could get to him. The next case takes us to New Mexico where a body cam caught the moment a state trooper was struck at close range. >> There you go. He got hit. He got hit. On February the 4th, 2021, officer Darien Jarrett [music] of the New Mexico Police Department had pulled over Omar Weber at the behest of federal agents. And the request [music] was made after the suspect sold a large quantity of drugs to an undercover agent and then showed off a large rifle, letting them know that he wasn't going back to prison. Immediately, he got pulled over and he [music] struck the officer with his firearm. The police department quickly dispatched officers to find the suspect [music] who had already fled from the crime scene. He led the chase to Las Cusus where he suddenly stopped his vehicle. But he wasn't about to surrender. [music] He had something else in mind. [music] [music] [music] >> [laughter] >> The officers were [music] still trying to confirm the state of the suspect, completely unaware that they're at the verge of recording another tragic incident. [laughter] Get down. Get down. Help me put your gun away. Help me put your gun away. Let go. Let go. It's okay. >> Hey. Yeah. He got hit. >> He got hit. All right. Nice. Come on. Get him to the vehicle right here. Get him to the vehicle right here. >> Get him to the vehicle right here. He's right here. Take off everything right here. What do you mean? What do you mean? Where's your hip? >> I got chest still open. >> Adrian, you're be fine, buddy. It's on his arm, guys. It's on his arm. >> Get it up high. It's up. Get up high. Higher. Higher. Got it. Got it. It's up high. Anywhere else? >> Sure. >> Hey, give me that other chest seal down here. >> No, I need you got a bigger one here. Give me >> Where else? Where else? >> You guys check for secondary entry. >> You guys check for secondaries. >> You're good, buddy. You're good. I got this sealed up. You're good. Left arm's good. >> One gunshot wound right. >> While the suspect succumbed to his injuries, the officer went on to make a full recovery. Officer Darien's end was definitely horrifying, but it was nothing compared to the devastating body cam moment when Officer Jamal Mitchell was assassinated by a man he tried to help. >> Who shot you? >> Who shot you? >> Are Are there victims inside? >> Right there. I see him. >> He's down. On May the 30th, 2024, Minneapolis officer Jamal Mitchell was dispatched to a neighborhood after receiving a 911 call from a woman who discovered her boyfriend unresponsive from a firearm injury to the [music] head in their South Minneapolis apartment. When he arrived at the neighborhood, he saw a man lying on the street and appearing to be in obvious pain. He quickly got out of his squad car and approached the man to render help. Squad 512. Look like we have at least two victims outside at the location bleeding. Copy. >> Hey, are we Hey, >> who shot you? >> Who shot you? >> Are are there victims inside? But in a cruel twist, his humanitarian gesture backfired in the worst of ways when the man, later identified as Mustafa Akmed Muhammad, rolled over and fired several shots at him. More officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, but upon their arrival, they realized that the standoff was far from over. Stop. >> Information on the shooter. >> Uh, suspect is a black male wearing a hoodie. >> We're getting shot at here. 20 second in Blaze. Actively shooting. >> Copy. Actively shooting. 22 in Blazale. I'm two blocks out. >> Moving. We're moving forward up the fire now. If somebody actually went around the block and took a shot at him. >> Go around. If you can get around that corner, >> I'm going to be right there. I see him. >> He's down. >> Move up. Hold on. Street. >> Reload. >> Reload. >> I got you. >> Stay around 22nd and 21st. They're shooting somewhere between the blocks. >> Stay away from 22nd and 21st. Shooting from that. >> Get out. Get out. Get out. >> Anyone else? >> Anyone else? >> We don't know. Hey, get down. Get down. >> The officer was later confirmed to have lost his life along with the suspect. >> Up next is when a body cam captured the moment a man attempted to end the life of an officer whose only offense was responding to a domestic situation call. >> I'm just here to ask questions, man. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Put your gun down now. 74 I've been hit. >> On June the 18th, 2025, cops from the Shiitakua County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence of a man later identified as Mark Bemis following reports of an aggravated domestic situation. When they arrived, they met him outside his house and decided to talk to him. But rather than choose to be cooperative, he made up his mind to play the hard way. I'm going to blow your mother cooking ass away. >> I'm just here to ask questions, man. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. >> You're the first person I'm talking to. >> Get your gun down now. >> Get your gun down now. >> Hey, >> put your 74 Mavville. 104 Maval 1053 shots fired. We just want to talk. Put it down. Put it down. >> Put your gun down. >> Put the down. >> DROP THE GUN. [screaming] WHILE the officer was doing all he could to get the suspect to put his gun down, he seemed to be intentionally stalling the officer and waiting for the perfect time to unleash the worst kind of cruelty. >> I willing shoot you if you point at me again. >> We just wanted to talk. Put it down and we can talk. >> Drop the gun then we can talk. Drop the gun and we can talk. >> 1080. You've pointed the shotgun at me a few times. >> Drop the gun. No, he went. I got officer down. >> In the end, he lost his life during the exchange of fire while the officer went on to make a full recovery. Just like that officer who lived to tell the tale, this cop had a close call after taking a hit in the middle of a fierce shootout. >> Stop. >> I'm trying TO STOP. >> I shot him in the neck in the head. He he he got a shot. >> Yeah, I see the >> It's right here. >> Yeah, I see. But as they approached the vehicle, the occupant, 19-year-old Nathaniel Fgerang, decided to pull a fast one on them. >> Stop resisting. Stop reaching. Stop reaching. >> Do not reach. >> Give me your hands. Stop breaching. Give me your hands. >> I got sound in my head. >> I GOT LIGHT. I GOT LIGHT. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment while the suspect was later confirmed not to have survived. Just like those moments when cops were ambushed and wounded, Nicholas Butcher wounded two officers after luring them to his home with a 911 call. >> What's the emergency at 310 Redstone Hill Road? >> It I don't know if it's necessarily an emergency, but >> right now He's down. >> On October the 12th, 2022, officers at the Bristol Police Department received a call from a bar reporting a fight in the parking lot. When officers arrived, the fight had dispersed, but some eyewitnesses told them that the culprits had just driven off in a white truck. They went after the vehicle and pulled it over so that they could talk to its occupants. And that was when they realized that there was a bigger problem beyond getting into a fight in a public space. He tells me to come get him. This what I get. >> Where's Officer Hamsy tonight? >> He's not working over here tonight. I think he's off. >> Hit him up, Tommy.
