[Applause] Cops are known to give their best to keep us safe. Then accidents can happen on the job and then they become victims of the very thing that they protect us against. But there are also a few times when they are a hair's breath away from very tragic accidents. [Music] Here are some of the most intense moments when cops got involved in tragic accidents and survived. Starting with the moment a Wisconsin police officer nearly lost his life after being struck by an inattentive driver while trying to help a stranded passenger. >> Sorry. You want me to have someone come for you? >> Okay. >> And could you just have record of the week bring some gas over here for her? >> I hit my head pretty good. I was just sitting here blocking it. Awesome. Boom. >> Oh yeah. >> On the 29th of October 2024, a police officer who was on a motor assist call on a highway in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, pulled over to assist a female driver in distress. And although the day looked like a nice one, they both had no idea what fate was in store for them. Hi there. >> Okay, no problem. You having car problems or >> Yeah. >> I I don't We can call someone to bring some over to you, like one of the tow trucks or something. >> I'm just I don't have any. I'm just going to walk down there. >> Uh you're going to walk down the quick trip and get some gas. >> Okay. >> All right. I'll just stay behind your car here until uh you get back then you just >> Okay. >> My cat isn't there. >> So you got you got money to get the gas but just not to uh have it to >> I just No, that's too expensive. I can't afford a toe. No, no, they they can just bring you gas, too, otherwise. >> Oh, girl, I'm so sorry. No, I I'm totally not. Okay, I'm so sorry. Okay, bye. >> What? >> Um, they can probably just bring you gas. Like, you would have to get a towed if that's all it is. >> Okay. You Sorry. Do you want me to have someone come for you? >> Okay. So, there's like Dons, Craigs, a few ones up here on the north side. >> Anyone? >> Okay. >> And in a cruel twist of fate, the very cop who had pulled over to lend a helping hand was about to be the one fighting to help himself. >> And could you just have record of the week bring some gas over here for her? 69 squad involved accident. [Music] >> Yeah. Why don't you go ahead and roll medical here? >> 69. Uh, put a plate on here quick. >> Uh, Wisconsin 614 916 614 916. >> For some officers, being a hair's breath away from what could have been their final moments would mean that they would choose survival first and pray EMS arrives before it's too late. And this would not be faulted if he did the same thing. >> I I think so. Yeah. Police Department. Are you okay, sir? >> Okay. Are you able uh do you have any kind of neck injury or head injuries or anything? Okay. [Applause] [Music] >> 69. We have pretty good front end damage on the vehicle that hit me. Uh he's saying he's not injured. 69. Once you get uh FD and route here, too. There's some uh fluids leaking from this vehicle. Can you repeat that? >> With no injuries, do you want to try to say just don't show up? >> Uh, no injuries on the subject that hit me, but yeah, I would like them to come over here. >> Um, did you want to exit the vehicle this way? It looks like there otherwise we have the fire department coming. I don't know if there's going to be some uh mechanical fire or anything like that going on. Otherwise, we could have wait to have the fire department uh get you out that way. 69, there is a entrapment here. Uh he can't get the driver door open. Copy the entrapment. Airbags deployed. I think so. [Applause] I guess I do have uh head injury here. >> Yeah. I just sitting in my car all boom. >> All right, you should call. That was quick. Who's this guy here? >> Um, I think he might be a witness. He asked if everyone's okay and I was checking on him at the time. So, if you wouldn't mind just checking, I guess. What's that? >> Um, I think so. He seems to be so far, but we're going to have medical jet come. We can check everybody out here. So, mine's okay. >> Okay, good. >> Yeah, I was just sitting there all got hit and then >> pushed into you. Yeah. hit my head on something. >> Having figured that the man was fine, it was now time to find out the reason for the accident. Accidents like this on a clear road may be a result of a driver who had a bit too much to drink or some clear negligence. Fortunately, the cops were able to find a witness who saw everything unfold and perhaps knew why things could have ended much worse. >> Um, yeah, let me just grab your information and name and number quickly. So, what did you see had happened? Um, I was right here. >> Uh, 69 standby. We'll need at least one for sure or two for sure. >> That's all right. That >> I was right next to you when he hit you. So, I didn't expect it to happen, but I just picked U-turn to see if you were okay. I can't help you here already. So, >> was he just coming down this this thing and and see me or something? It looks that way cuz I didn't hear any skid marks or anything. Just the impact is over. >> I was I wasn't even paying attention obviously and all of a sudden boom, >> there's no skid marks. So, he wasn't paying attention. And you were well lit because I saw you all the way from the >> Yeah. Let me just grab your name and number just so we have that documented. >> It's going to take you a while to clear. So, >> this I think this this one might the only thing they might need is uh is gas. So, they might be able to get going. Um, obviously now we'll need to grab all their information for a uh for an accident report, too. But if you want to help her out with that, that might help out. >> Sure. >> Got a little cut on the side here. >> Yeah. I'm going to have them take a look at it here, but >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you. >> Yeah. I I hit my head pretty good. I was just sitting here blocking it. All a sudden, boom. >> Oh, yeah. >> So, he needs to be looked at. >> I'm going to I'm going to go in, I think. >> So, we have another ambulance on the way. >> Okay. >> Is it all right if we pop your hood? >> I would think so. Yeah, that should be okay. >> Sit on, Brad. Relax or something, man. >> Yeah. Would you would you mind? Maybe I should uh get my stuff, my bag out of here. I just put in one of yours. You guys can just fill that in later. >> Do that for you. >> Everything just went everywhere. >> You got You got a coming up there pretty good. Take the power away. >> Okay, sounds good. >> He wants you to hold off. >> Oh, I see. Okay, sure. Yep, >> brother. >> Oh, dude. Yeah, you're >> I can feel it. >> Yeah. Yeah, you might have a concussion, too. >> Yeah. You never know that. I'm just going to get since I'm Especially since I'm working here, I'm just going to definitely go in. >> Yes. Yes. How you feeling? >> A little shook up. >> Little shook up. >> Sure. >> Um yeah, when he's done with that, I'm just going to grab this, put it in my uh the other guys. >> No pain at all. Not hurting anything. >> Um my neck I think feels okay right now. My head definitely some pain on this side >> and I otherwise just this. I'm not sure anything else. >> Okay. I think you got a strap. >> Do I want to sit down? >> Um, I think I'm okay. I just want to get this taken care of and then Yeah, then maybe I'll go sit down. >> If you hit your head, I prefer you sit down once you get that stuff out of there. Okay. >> Okay. >> The officer was eventually transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the reckless driver was cited for inattentive driving. The first officer was fortunate, but he was not as fortunate as this officer, who suffered another crash from a reckless driver who beat the red light. Are you okay? >> I'm okay. Hang on. Just hang on. >> Are you okay? >> I'm okay. >> Just hang on. >> I'm trying to. I've never been in a car accident. >> On the 2nd of May, 2022, a Milwaukee police officer was on patrol duty on what appeared to be a regular evening. And when he least expected it, he did not expect that his life was going to flash in an instant. [Music] Okay. >> Yeah. >> Where's the radio? [Music] Are you okay? >> I'm okay. >> Just hanging out. Just >> Fortunately for the officer, she lived to tell the tale. But despite being a survivor, she was not out of the waters yet. There was still a possible risk of explosion, and every second in the vehicle could be her last. I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. >> I've never been in a car accident. Yeah. Robert, you did good. >> Hey, can you just check my cell phone? It should be over there somewhere. >> As fate would have it, no one lost their life in the incident. The driver was charged with reckless driving causing injury. In an unfortunate chain of events involving officers getting caught in awful and life-threatening accidents, the next case captures the moment an officer would have breathed his last following a crash from a one-way driver. Nero, he's going to hit me. >> Go ahead. Start aid head on. >> On the 20th of February 2020, a Washington state trooper was on routine patrol duty when an errant one-way driver drew his attention. Realizing that he posed a significant risk to other road users, the officer was left with no choice, still to find desperate means to prevent the impending tragedy, even if it was going to cost his own life. 647. Also, vehicle is still in the left lane. Lane travel 232 >> now. Eastbound from Westlake Sam. >> Uh Zero. I'm about a half mile from Westlake. I got him coming at me. Zero seat enabled today. [Music] Navajo. He's going to hit me. >> Go ahead and start aid. Head on. >> Both the officer and the driver survived the incident. It was later determined that he was driving under the influence and he was charged with DUI. While the officers we have dealt with so far have narrowly survived crashes, the next officer found himself in the most unusual but life-threatening situation after he was accidentally exposed to during a traffic stop. >> Breathe in. Breathe in. Breathe in. Breathe in. Breathe in. Breathe in. Breathe in. >> Talk to me. What are you feeling? >> I feel really dizzy. >> How you doing? I'm >> okay. The date was August the 10th, 2023 when Florida police officers pulled over a driver suspected of driving under the influence. Following the stop, an officer initiated a search of the vehicle, but he was unaware that the Grim Reaper was lurking around the corner and just needed the perfect time to strike. During the search, he was accidentally exposed to a life-threatening dose of a threat that could end him within minutes if he received no medical care. In one crazy moment, his colleagues had themselves battling to save his life. >> Call EMS. >> Have a seat. >> Have a seat. >> Primary team rescue. Take it. No, I tested her and I suspected I put piece of white rock. >> Just breathe. >> Things were beginning to look better for the alien officer, but he was still in bad waters and EMS had yet to arrive on the scene. His colleagues were trying their best, and it was clear that that was not enough. Both my left hand ready. Breathe in. Breathe out. still got plenty more narciss Thank you. >> Yeah, it's probably been our campaign. Thank you. >> That's breathe. The driver, on the other hand, bagged multiple substance related charges and DUI. Inhaling a substance during a traffic stop was scary, but nothing compared to a driver pepper- spraying an officer before him with a knife. >> Sir, as long as it's paper, [Music] >> take the knife away from him, >> sir. Oh yes. >> Drop it. Drop it. Drop it. >> On the 1st of May 2025, an Edund police officer was finalizing a traffic stop and issuing a warning citation. As fate would have it, nothing prepared him for the fact that the danger that would befall him would not come from the driver he had pulled over, but from someone totally unrelated to the stop. >> It'll have it. >> Light gray box at the bottom. >> Light gray. >> Yeah. Just down there. Perfect. Not an admission of guilt. Just stating that you show up on or before the court date. Okay. >> I don't have as long as it's paper. [Applause] Stop. Stop. Start me another. Start me another. The officer had figured out that the man was armed with a knife and was not reluctant to use it. He had been injured, bleeding, pepper-sprayed, and was fast, running out of breath. He was in desperate need of help and might lose it all if he didn't get it soon. >> Stop. Stop. I have nothing left. Just do me. >> I done up my life. >> Yes. I only ask. >> What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you need me? >> Take the knife away from him. >> Sir, I only ask. >> Drop it. Drop it. Drop it. Sir, drop it. >> You can do me this favor, >> sir. Sir, drop it. Drop it. Okay. >> Bring that arm back. Do it now. >> All right. Take that arm back. Do it now. Give him help. >> Following the event, the officer was taken in for surgery. His asalent, later identified as Ocean Hudson, was charged with aggravated assault and battery on a police officer. Just like that last stop took a sudden but unexpected turn, so did the next traffic stop, which became one of the worst traffic stops in history. >> Put your hands up. Turn around. Put your hands up. Put your hands up. >> Right here. over here. >> On August the 14th, 2021, at around 10 p.m., when a Modesto Police Department traffic officer noticed a motorcyclist driving recklessly near West Orangeberg and Kiny Avenue. While they're unable to apprehend him at the moment, they managed to trace him back to his residence. However, their decision to pursue the suspect, identified as Joshua Harrington, would prove to be life-threatening for officers involved. >> Put your hands up. Put your hands up. Get on your ground. Hands on your head. No, dude. Hands on your head. Get down on your knees. Down on your knees. Hands on your head. >> Why are you jamming me up, dude? >> Put your hands on your head. Okay. >> Good. Good. >> Upon arrival, Joshua and another man were immediately arrested. Upon searching the suspect, officers found substances on him. This raised suspicions about the house itself, prompting authorities to issue a search warrant. That one quick search warrant uncovered all that Joshua was hiding. Attention.
