What are you doing? Recording? What am I doing? Yeah. What? Yeah. Is there any reason why you're recording the building? No, you don't. >> We're not allowed to. Oh, you're not allowed to. Interesting. It's federal property. We're not allowed to film on it. Federal property? The sidewalk in front of us? You guys are dismissed. Take it easy. If you guys came up to me more cordial in the beginning, I would have answered your questions, but you guys are dismissed. Karen's annoying to be annoying, but every now and then some of them end up in the police departments where they use the badge to bully citizens. But what happens when they try to bully high IQ citizens and they get owned? Can we just talk to you over here? Can we just talk over here? What's wrong with talking to me here? I just want to talk to you in front of my car where we're not in front of the entrance so we can just have a little peaceful conversation. There's a verbal disturbance here. >> Could you back up just a little bit? >> No, sir. We're going to walk back here. >> 6 ft, please. We're going to walk back in front of my car. What is your purpose right now? Well, right now I'm just standing up for my fourth amendment rights and you don't seem to like that. It irritates you. Does it irritate me? Here are times when Karen cops get owned by high IQ citizens. Starting off with an infuriating case where a simple photography session outside a bank turned into a constitutional showdown as multiple officers descended on a citizen clicking pictures. Can I have your ID? No. >> Just so I can see who you are. No, you can't have my ID. What are you going to do? You're going to arrest me from standing here? Why? Why can't I stand here? You'll be trespassing on TD Bank, okay? How can you be trespassing You're on the property. You'll be arrested. you How can you be trespassing and I've never been on the property? It's private property, okay? In February 2025, officers in Edison, New Jersey responded [music] to a TD Bank after frantic calls about a man filming from public property, something which seemed surprisingly trivial. What are you doing? What am I doing? Taking pictures. For what? Because I want to. What are you They called the cops. Okay. All right. All right. He Look, can you tell them when they call them, can you tell them to you me a bottle of water? I'm thirsty. You can tell the cops that. All right, thanks. Appreciate you. Because you parked. That's the best way you can park? How you doing, sir? That's the best way you can park? >> Yes, it is. How you doing today? That's crazy. What if somebody need to get by? I need your name and badge number. I can't hear you. I can't hear you, either. Can you hear me now? A little bit. All right. They're asking for you to leave from in front of this property. Can I get the name and badge number? 488, Officer Owens. Officer Owens, 488? Yep. Okay. They're asking What I asked I gave you that information. Did you hear what I asked you? No. They're asking for you to be removed from in front of this property. Okay. Okay? Okay. >> So, you can record, but you can go down to that corner to the light, but not right here in front of the building. Okay. Okay? I'd appreciate that. All right. Thank you. When the citizen calmly refused and asked for her name and badge number, Officer Owens made an alarming claim that would set the tone for the entire [music] encounter. There's no standing here to record. Yeah, yeah. And I asked you to not record right here in front of So, you're asking me? I asked you. Okay, yeah. What's going on? What's going on? ID, I need ID for what? Can I have your ID? Just so I can see who you are. No, you can't have my ID. Okay, can you get that camera out of my face? You're already over there. The camera's not in your face. It is in my face. It's It's pointed directly at me. Yeah, of course. I got to keep it pointed at you. You're asking again. Do you have your ID on you? No, I left I left my my wallet in my other jeans pocket. Where are you from? Yeah. The Earth. Earth? Yeah. Okay. Where do you live? Where are you from? Do you live in Edison? Where are you from? Do you live in Edison? I don't ask those questions like that. And I don't need to. Okay. So, is this conversation over? It's not. You just need to go You don't have to stand here. Okay. But they're asking you to not record in front of their property. Okay. They are asking why you're recording. I want to take pictures. But this is not a picture. This is a video. Yeah, it's it's like 30 30 frames per second. It's like pictures. That's not a picture and a video is two different things. It's like multiple pictures all in one. That's not a picture. That's what a video is. May I ask why you're doing that? Yeah. Sir, why May I ask why you're recording in front of this bank? Is there something that I can help you with today? >> No, no, no, I'm good. So, why are you recording? I like the building. They don't want you recording. I might want to buy this building one day. It's not for sale. It might be one day. Everything for sale. Everything got a price on it. What made it more disturbing was what happened when backup arrived. As the exchange dragged on, officers grew increasingly frustrated realizing that they had no legal ground to stand on. That's a backup? You know everything goes. You tell me. You guys can 10-8. 10-8 tell them to 10-8. Can I get your name and badge number, sir? Who? Hughes 547 547 Hughes. Thank you, sir. They're asking you to leave from in front of the property. Again, you're asking me. Well, now I'm telling you. You got to go. I'm not leaving. What are you going to do? You're going to arrest me from standing here why? Why can't I stand here? Excuse me. Why can't I stand here? They don't like what you're doing. What I'm doing? You tell me. I'm recording. And they don't want you recording. It's a constant They're they're worried that you're going to be standing there recording. But isn't this a constitutionally protected activity? That you then you Isn't it? Are you a customer of TD? I don't answer questions like that. The customers that they have when they go inside >> Okay. >> complaining about you. About what? >> Now you're bringing the problem. What are they complaining about though? You're making them uncomfortable recording them. They don't know >> You're out in public. You're watching them. We out in public. I don't know if they watching me, either. They got cameras looking at me. But you're here. Okay. I I I got the right to be here, all right? Okay, but not to record. Why not? You can be standing here all day, but they don't want the camera here. Okay, well, you know, a lot of people want a lot of things, man. I like the building. I want to record the building. That Is that a problem, though? But people are coming in here to spend their money with this bank, and they have a right to say so. I don't know. This is out in public. When you out in public, when you out in public, there's no expectation of privacy. camera recording at somebody. You have a debit card, right? You go to the bank, right? >> Yep. And when you go to the bank When I go to the bank, when You look at the ATM machine? Of course. Every time. When you go to the ATM, they don't record you every time? for the business, not every individual. It don't make a difference who's recording. How? How? What do you It ain't It ain't what you do when you It ain't what you look at when you record it. It's what you do with the information after you get it. >> And that's the question. What are you going to be doing with the information once you get it? If you don't do nothing with it, there's no problem. That That's so you just That's what you What are you saying then? There's no problem. It is a problem. So, why are you recording? What's your reasoning? Why are you recording the bank? What's your reasoning? So, now I got to have a reason to record. To take pictures. Do people just normally just stand and record a bank? Yeah. We taking pictures, man. We recording. Taking pictures of a bank? Yeah. Not a bank. Yeah. In a final desperate move that defied all logic [music] and law. One officer attempted something that would have been laughable if it wasn't so alarming. What are you guys doing on a Saturday? You here watching me take pictures out here and you guys ain't got nothing to do. I don't care about you taking pictures of the bank. And when you got called here, you see me taking pictures. You see I ain't doing nothing wrong. So, you guys can leave. Nobody really just records a bank. You know, it's weird, but it ain't it ain't illegal, you know? Some things is weird. Another one? For a man with a camera? Oh my god. This is crazy. And look how you guys parked, man. Look how you guys parking. >> What's your name, boss man? I'm not giving you my name. All right, well listen. You can stand out there as long as you want. It's not coming out. What's your name, man? What's your name and badge number? What's your name and badge number? Oh, yeah. All right, see you later, Tyron. All right, you're being trespassed from TD Bank, okay? How can you be tres- How can you be How can you be trespassed? And I've never been on the property. It's private property, okay? If you If you step back onto the property, we come back, you will be locked up for defiant trespass. Okay. I'm giving you notice. >> You got a card? You got a card? I don't have a card. Where your police department at? Where your police department at? Edison Police Department. All right, you got a card? No, I don't. All right, cuz I'm You got your body cam when you was in there You had your body cam on? All right, I'm going to request that body cam from you. I am. Cuz you dirty. I know you dirty. You dirty. Yeah, you dirty. Good luck with everything, all Yeah, you too. Good luck and be safe out there. The citizen was illegally threatened and warned by officers who demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of the laws. Moving on to a jaw-dropping case where a routine public photography session spiraled into complete chaos when an officer arrived on scene and immediately began violating rights she clearly knew nothing about. >> Medals, you need to de-escalate. You need to de-escalate, get a supervisor. Good lord. What have you learned in the academy? Obviously nothing. You can go talk to the and you're blocking traffic. Get your car out of the way. Go park in a parking spot. God. You know she's pissed right now. Officer Nettles responded to a call about a citizen filming on a public sidewalk, but the routine encounter quickly spiraled into [music] something it never should have been. Hey. Hey. Um, are you guys all related? >> Not at all. I was just seeing what was going on. You're just a bystander? More or less. I got you. Are you from one of the businesses here? Not at all. What actually are you from? He has nothing to do with us. He just approached us just now. >> You two are together? Well, we're we're I'm me and she's her. All right, I'm confused. What's going on here with the with cameras and everything? No, no, we don't know each other, okay? I'm not even involved. I just walked by you guys. I'm not involved. So, I would like to leave. Nettles, you need to de-escalate. You need to de-escalate. Get a supervisor. Good lord. What have you learned in the academy? Obviously nothing. If you're not free to go, you're detained. >> And that's an unlawful detainment. So, you're more than welcome to leave and if she says you're detained, that's fourth amendment violation. Okay. All right, hold on. So, are we detained cuz I want to know if I'm being unlawfully detained at this point. Okay. Return your lights off. She's a do- She's not going to follow them? No. Oh. She's going to sit here and try to try to pull this try to pull this What made this encounter even more disturbing was that Officer Nettles had backup and somehow managed to make the situation worse with every word she spoke. And she said we're not detained, so we're free to we're free to move about cuz we're not detained. So, is there a purpose for this recording? Uh, do you not know about a first amendment right on a sidewalk to record in public? I'm asking you a question. I'm asking you a question. Video tape what's going on. Why why do you care? Go back to your car. You're just a menace. Just see. This is a first amendment protected right. I'm on a We're on a public sidewalk. What are you doing? Get a supervisor. Just get a supervisor. Just get a supervisor. Here, I'm going to invoke our fifth amendment right to remain silent. Have a nice day, Nettles. Well, I will be reporting you to IA cuz your conduct is horrible. You're violating rights already. Just have a nice day. Go talk to the complaint. Go talk to the complaint. Go talk to the complaint. Go talk to the complaint. Go talk to the Yeah, you should have. Go to the complaint. Go talk to the And you blocked traffic. Get your car out of the way. Go park in a parking spot. God. God damn pigtails and female cops are horrible. Get a supervisor. Get a stupid visor cuz you're stupid. Yeah, what did I just tell her? I'm invoking a fifth amendment right to remain silent, which means what? No questions without a lawyer present. God, she's re- Go talk to the complaint. If I'm not detained, go talk to the complaint. What made it alarming was Officer Nettles' apparent lack of understanding of basic constitutional law. With no legal footing, the encounter took a surreal turn as the officer let her ego drive her actions. Oh, you know she's pissed right now. Didn't I have to tell her to de-escalate? What's that? I don't think she's used to people challenging her authority. You got to come up, put your lights on like I'm detained, block the whole sidewalk here. Why couldn't you just park in the parking lot and go talk to the complaint noticing that we're not doing anything wrong? Exposing dirty cops one at a time. All right, brother. Take it easy, man. >> Are you a supervisor? No, he's not here right now. He's on an accident right now. Yeah, she was kind of she was kind of very hostile, aggressive, and rude. Weren't you on that spot that happened? Cuz I could I like how you handled that whole situation actually. I watched and I and I saw the K9. She doesn't understand what first amendment and fifth amendment rights are. No, no, and fifth amendment rights. I told her I invoke my fifth. She kept asking me questions. I'm just asking questions. No. Fifth amendment means stop asking. They can stay on the public sidewalk as long as they want. We I don't know who called. I told her to go talk to complaint if she wanted to escalate. So so okay. Um That's all. I'm going to pull the body camera anyways. Keep it on, Nettles. I I'm me, she's her. Oh, okay. I just didn't know. I just don't want her if if Carl or Donna doesn't ask you to leave No, no. Nope, we haven't. And I'm going to tell you right now because you're because you're professional the way you are and I've seen you on body cam, so I know how professional you are. I I watch all the videos. So yeah, when when when I'm sitting here and telling her of my fifth amendment rights to remain [music] silent and you want to keep asking me questions. You violated my rights, by the way. Yes, you did. You didn't realize that. That's why I asked for a supervisor. [music] I can try to get you one if However, my next question or answer for you is I've never set foot on >> [music] >> the Chase or Starbucks property. I've been on the edge of their property lines. Uh-huh. [music] It's cold and I'm keeping warm. It's not on purpose. I'm My rights don't end where their feelings begin. [music] I've heard a lot of good things about you. Right. I'm a little overweight, but other than that I'm in good health. Hey, is it keeping you warm at least? I am. I'm pretty warm other than my fingertips. >> Cuz I've got to I had to wear like layers on top of layers on top of layers. But anyway, other than that, I'll go talk to them. At the end of the day, if you're not on their property, we just got to go [music] kind of educate them a little bit. And that's And that's why I was trying to tell her to go talk to the complaint first. But she wanted to escalate out here. >> We didn't know. I didn't know who [music] was what. >> Need to go to back to the academy now. As long as she's Like I said, you're she's you you're you're you're Sorry, I'm getting mixed up. I won't even talk [music] to her cuz she's talking to anyone here over here. I mean No. And I told her that they call us and say, "Hey, you want to come on our property?" And you're on their property or whatever or you walk over there, but Yeah. They teach you some things about the law. >> talk to me after we I talked to her. >> I I'm I'm filming it, but if you want to come out and talk I I I Yeah, it's totally up to you. I'm just going to leave. >> very professional and I I I'm okay with talking to you. Um and then did you still have a car then? She's tied up on an accident, but I If she's tied up, I'll go ahead and go through IA and file complaints. No problem. >> Okay. Okay. They I can send a I know I'm I know where the area is, but I'll talk to you after you're done. I just want to know what they said and I'll get the call number from here. Luckily, the senior officer's professional approach quickly de-escalated a situation heading towards trouble. If you thought that was crazy, wait till you see the next case. A simple photography project documenting traffic accidents turned into a multi-officer response as police desperately tried to criminalize perfectly legal behavior outside of Costco. Why Why is it like for security? It's not. It's just none of your business. You're giving me directives of things that I haven't done. And do Do you not think I know how to do this without violating the law? The confrontation began when angry Costco customers approached the auditors demanding to know why they were taking pictures of license plates. >> Drunk see CYD. Drunk CYD. Huh? I'm just getting all the plates of everybody coming out today. Why? Uh I can't disclose that yet. Why? It's kind of important you took a picture of my plate. Yeah. Yeah. It's not It's public information. Yeah, but Yeah. Yeah. Just so you get some pictures today. What's your reason? I don't have a reason. I'm just taking them. You're taking my picture. Yeah, yeah. >> you taking my picture? Can't disclose that at this time. You know I No, I can start taking pictures and I'm going to keep taking them. Oh, is this a Mr. Don't do that? Don't do that. Don't do that. You can't take pictures of people like Yeah. I just called the cops to get educated on this. You're not going to take my picture, are you? I don't care. Like Hey, then go about your day. This doesn't affect you. Well, why are Literally just go about your day. I'm literally I'm exercising a freedom. You can literally just go mind your own business. Do I What are you doing? What are you going here to get? Tell me your list of [music] shopping stuff that you're getting today. Why are you doing this? I don't owe you an answer, do I? Do I owe you an answer? You don't understand that security and people are just like questioning it. No, you can question it, but you can't expect an answer. I don't have to. Why Why is it like so secretive? It's not. It's just none of your business. Well, my license plate is none of your business. I'm not a I >> It I I don't have to disclose that to you. See, like you're not transparent about what you're >> I don't I don't have to be transparent. I don't How big's your 7 inches. There you go. >> [laughter] >> Why aren't you transparent over there, bro? Like come on, bro. Like we don't owe each other anything. This is the great part about living in a free country. What made it more disturbing was how quickly officers arrived and began issuing commands [music] without first investigating the facts. I don't like that you guys are blocking the sidewalk or Who's blocking the sidewalk? >> I'm talking right here, so >> Yeah, we're not blocking the sidewalk. We haven't blocked anybody. Come on, we got multiple We have Well, no, we were for a second when But we also haven't [music] been asked to leave the property. Nobody came in out. In fact, one of the workers invited us on on the property cuz he didn't want to stand in right here. So >> you? I don't know. One of the employees that went inside. We absolutely. So, we're having a misunderstanding here. You When you pulled up Hold on. When you pulled up, was I on their property? And do you understand that this is a sidewalk? This is also a sidewalk when there's no vehicles. Okay? nobody was letting them in. So, I went and stopped them and said, "Hey, pedestrians first." So, I haven't done any of the things that you've suggested [music] that I've done. So, why is Okay. So, you believe everything anybody just automatically Okay. Okay. If [music] I've been invited on the property, I don't But that's the thing. You're misunderstanding. You said there's only a violation if I'm on their property. You're wrong. on because he didn't want me standing right here for whatever reason. He said it's better to more safe to go over there. So, there's You keep saying, "Oh, the only you know, thing I'm not allowed What does it look like I'm doing? Just out of curiosity. Not to mention, I'm allowed on their property no matter what until I was asked to leave. So, what violation did I commit? You said that there was a violation. Uh-huh. There's no violation because I wasn't asked to leave. Yeah, she's going to solicit a trespass. Uh-huh. But I don't have to be invited regardless. Cuz they have Nobody to this moment has asked us to leave their property. At when you arrived, I'm not [music] even standing on their property. So, what violation would there have been? So, when you said, "Oh, you don't want me on the property right here." This is actually a GIS survey public access right here. So, just so you're clarified. So, this this rock right here, all of this, was part of their permit process. So they finished just like the sidewalk. They paid to put the sidewalk in but it's owned by the city. You understand that? Are we on the same page there? Okay. So before I got here, where did you guys start filming? What was where you guys on their property or where were you guys when you first started? >> Can you do some mic percent? Let me just go talk to them. Yeah. And if you got if you actually look up the GIS survey, it goes like this. So this is all public [music] access right here. So this whole entrance is public access. So So as long as you're not on their property Their property would be after like on that side where that blue car is right now. That would be technically their property. You're giving me directives of things that I haven't done. And do do you not think I know how to do this [music] without violating the law? Yeah. Yeah. Well, which part is Costco's property? >> Yeah. No, it's fine. I mean they still have an access to leave regardless but [music] it's it's Like I said, we're not here we have nothing to do with them. We're not you know, you you see us answering questions as people will come by except for the lady that yelled at us but yeah. It's fine. So yeah, they're they're fully aware and what you guys you know, as long as you're not on their property, we told them that you guys Well, I mean if we get asked to leave their property we would [music] but we still haven't I know I know but if we go over there if they ask us to leave I'll respectfully leave. I'm not I'm not here to challenge their you know, their authority on their private property but I don't have any plans but thank you. Love your nails. Thank you. You have a wonderful day. You too. Hey, try not to issue so many directives next time or into that. I I you I don't understand >> It's But it's stating the obvious when you already know I'm going to know it. I love you for that. Thank you so much. >> [music] >> Absolutely. Her frustration was written all over her face as she realized that she had no legal footing. Every order had been based on false assumptions and the order [music] that knew the law better than she did. What came next exposed just how desperate officers were [music] to justify their response. Hopefully you know, I told them to just let their customers know. >> Well, just since you were standing over there there's [music] two accidents that almost happened over here. Now, we are here because somebody emailed how cracked out dangerous this is. There's been 15 accidents here according to the the the the the county website. That's crazy. And and we watched one of them almost happen, and then earlier another lady almost happened. I'm like, two of them right there. And one of them was right in front of you guys. I'm like, this this is crazy. And then they got mad at us. I'm like, I have nothing to do with the motorcycle. But right And that was right when you were talking to them, the motorcycle came in and almost T-boned them. intersection. Look how far it backs out. It creates road rage at that intersection. So. Yeah. Ma'am, you can go about your day. It's none of your business. The complaint collapsed once the auditor explained why they were documenting the location, and the investigation was closed without further incident. Next up, a two-Karen officers who completely lost the plot over a citizen journalist filming their vehicle, and ended up getting schooled by him on the law. Committed a crime in order to ask for my ID. But what's your badge number? You can't be filming over here. I can. I'm on public property filming public property. I'm absolutely allowed and protected on my First Amendment. You can't be filming our gate and stuff like that. That is incorrect. You are You guys are trying to bully me and give me unlawful directives. She told me I can't be on a public sidewalk, which is false. In 2024 in San Diego, a confrontation began when a citizen journalist legally recorded [music] officers leaving a station. One female officer immediately took issue, approached him with suspicion, setting the tone for [music] a tense encounter. Can I help you? No, I'm good. Thank you. Are you allowed here? I'm filming. Why? Because I'm filming. You need to move along. What's that? You need to move along. I need to move along? No, I don't. You're going to get hit. Hey, I'm not blocking the driveway at all. You can't give me unlawful orders and directives. >> I got it. All right. Can I get your name and badge number? Yeah, what's your name? I need your name and badge number first. All right. You have to suspect I'm committing a crime in order to ask for my ID, but uh what's your badge number? You can't be filming over here. >> I can. I'm on public property filming public property. You can't be filming over here. Um you're going to have to get your supervisor. I'm on public property I'm on a public sidewalk filming. I'm absolutely allowed and protected on my first amendment. >> be filming in our gate and stuff like that. >> That is incorrect. I've gone viral on YouTube over these videos. When people try to stomp on the rights, we are allowed to be here. It is protected under the first amendment. And you have to identify yourself with your name and badge number when you're asked. >> ID 707. >> Okay. I need you to call a supervisor if that's the order you're trying to give me. All right, here's my captain. Okay. How are you? How you doing? Good. What can I help you with? I'm just filming. I'm a citizen journalist. I'm doing a story on the police department. What's a citizen's journalist? Can you just explain that to me, please? Free freedom of press. It's under the first amendment. We are all allowed to become citizen journalists. Both officers kept pushing, growing visibly frustrated as the journalist calmly stood his ground [music] as the situation spiraled. What's your name and badge number again? Officer Wayne, 5119. >> Okay. I wasn't engaging you guys at all. Okay. No, and that's fine, but we get curious when we have people that are filming. You are Okay. >> can I finish? >> Yes. I'll let you finish. We just get curious people out here filming us wanting to know what's going on, so that's why we're contacting you to find out if you need anything or if anything's going on. I do not need anything. >> need anything? Absolutely not. >> do you plan on being out here? I have no idea yet. I honestly was almost done and leaving before she started being a psycho and giving me orders. >> No, she's Okay, but you can't get out and give unlawful orders and demand ID if they you don't have any articulable suspicion that you'd be committing a crime. Sir, we we can ask you for ID, but there comes a point where you either want to show it to us or you don't. And I declined and then she told me to move along. Let me finish, okay? I didn't interrupt you. I'd appreciate it if you don't interrupt me, okay? Is that fair? I will agree to that for now. >> Okay. So, yes, we can ask people for ID and it just depends on the situation if they want to give it to us or not or if they're lawfully have to give it to us or not. But we can ask anybody. Absolutely. But she can't spout unlawful orders Okay. of a citizen. Absolutely not. There's no way you're going to convince me otherwise. I did I say say anything about any law >> Okay, but you haven't one time said >> Sorry. What's your name? Mike. We'll go with that one. You keep interrupting me. So, apparently you're not going to let me finish my sentences. >> But you didn't interrupt her when she's giving me unlawful directives. Okay, because I was on the radio putting out our location here. Okay. So, I wasn't listening to what she was exactly saying. >> But she told me I had no right to stand here. It doesn't matter. I'm allowed to talk over you if I want. >> Okay, you just want to be rude. >> It's not about that. You were you guys are trying to bully me and give me unlawful directives. She told me I can't be on a public sidewalk, which is false. You said you said I need to move along and I cannot film here. That is complete You cannot what? But I can. This is my right. I am exercising my right. I am allowed to exercise my right. There is no directives that will be lawful that you can give me to tell me to move on. That just can't happen. It will not happen. I was saying you needed to scoot back cuz the car was in the way. I absolutely They had plenty of room to get in. Nobody was in threat of being hurt or run over. I'm this like Look how far I am away from these vehicles and yourself. I am not a danger to anybody, but you guys are treating me like I'm a danger to you. Hold on one second. Let me Let me finish, okay? Another car was trying to come in. >> And I was not in the way. Let me finish. I You don't Hey, you're not talking to me like you're my mom. Well, you're acting like a child, so you Okay, go away. You're dismissed. You're dismissed. This fool thinks that she can direct everybody to not be on public property. That's The incident ended with no detention and no arrest. The journalist continued documenting while the only thing the Karen officers accomplished was turning a routine [music] photography session into a viral video. If you thought that was wild, just wait because the next case involves officers who invented fake violations and demanded a citizen to delete footage from his phone. All because he dared to film government building. So, what HIPAA right would that be? Um being recorded when they're getting their medical stuff. >> Do you know how HIPAA laws work? For this area? >> So, when people drive by and they have dash cams, do they have to like go outside their car and cover as they're driving by? Is that Is that what they have to do? We have to agree. The incident began as a simple first amendment audit outside what appeared to be a medical facility until an officer stepped in and turned it into a master class on how not to approach citizens exercising their rights. What am I recording? Yeah. What do you mean? We have medical people coming in and out of here. You're trying to violate their medical sort of HIPAA violation. You know what I'm saying? No, I don't. What do you mean HIPAA violations? I'm not I'm not certified by HIPAA, bro. No, so Well, being filmed for like medical reasoning and stuff like that, we just don't want to be violating their their HIPAA rights, you know what I'm saying? >> Yeah, so what HIPAA right would that be? Um being recorded when they're getting their medical stuff. Do you know how HIPAA laws work? Huh? Do you know how HIPAA laws work? Who do you talk to? I'm talking about the HIPAA laws that you just brought up. Do you know how those work? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold up. Hold on. Hold on. Don't Don't interrupt. I'm trying to have a conversation with the man. So, what what HIPAA laws are you talking about? Cuz I'm not certified by HIPAA. I don't I don't go by HIPAA laws. I'm I'm here on the sidewalk. So, I'm I'm just confused as to what you're talking about, really. >> trying to make sure that they are their rights and stuff like that aren't being violated by people just filming them for no reason when they're trying to come in and get medical Oh, well, how do you know I have no reason? Uh we just asked you. You asked me what? We just asked you. You never gave a Well, no. I I was trying to have a conversation with you when he rudely interrupted and I was trying to finish my conversation. So, if you had a question, I'd be more than happy to answer. Go ahead. Just want to [music] know what's your purpose. Well, what my purpose is is I go around and I stress test our First Amendment right to the freedom of press in public and I see how business owners, people, and the police, if they do come, react and how they respect our rights and see if they feel that feelings trump rights. Okay. Okay. So So, we all good? We all on the same page or Oh, yeah. We just wanted to see what was going on. There was people outside just, you know, Yeah, no. I'm glad I can answer your questions for you. All right. Got you. Thanks. The real shock came when additional officers arrived and made an even more absurd [music] claim than the HIPAA violation. Oh, boy. What's up? What are you doing? Recording. What am I doing? Yeah. What? Yeah. Is there any reason why you're recording the building? The building? Which which building? This one. That one? Yes, sir. I haven't been recording that building. What what's up? Why? What's going on? Recording in this area, sir. What do you mean? Hold on. You guys have your body You guys have body cams here? No, we're not No, you don't? We're not allowed to. Oh, you're not allowed to. Yes. Interesting. It's federal property. We're not allowed to film on it. Federal property? The sidewalk in front of a in front of a dispensary? Federal property? Dispensary, but our buildings are federal. I I have nothing to do with your building. Yeah, but you're on You came You came and made yourself part of the building, so you're like part of the video. Yeah, there you go. Yeah. Did you Did you know Now, did you know I have a photographic memory? Did you know that? Yes. Right. So, what if I was standing here without a camera and I just remembered everything? That's fine. And then I went and drew pictures of it. Oh, it absolutely I absolutely can't. I can't. So when people drive by and they have dash cams, do they have to like go outside their car and cover as they're driving by? Is that Is that what they have to do or Filming that's like I said, I'm not specifically filming that. So there you go. You're You're all set. The citizen's shop with a knowledge of the law left officers with no answer, exposing their real concern. Not privacy or safety, but control. The situation then escalated when the Karen officers demand [music] crossed the line from ignorance into overuse of authority. >> [music] >> Really? Yeah, you want to You guys want to What You have like a sergeant or a supervisor out here? Oh, that's Is that guy? Oh, yeah, please. Yeah. Oh, oh. My bad. Sorry. So yeah, just uh bring her bring her out here. That'd be fantastic. I'd love to have a chat. Thought you had me there, didn't you? Wow, one, two, three. I've seen this all that don't have body cams going on. I I want to go over there and see what they're talking about. I won't be able to go and get a conversation afterwards, so. And this ought to be really good for a business, don't you think? Three cops with the lights on sitting right outside. Yeah, that's brilliant. See, this is where you just need to know why are you [music] filming. What's your business? You just Hold on. Hold on. No, no, no. I'll I'll answer your question in a second. So, you're you came up to me first and you said hi. We can't have you recording our building and we need to delete video off of people's phones. That's what we're here to do. And now you're going to come up to me and now we just need to know why you're recording. That's crazy. Really? [music] So, what's the ramifications if I don't tell you why I'm recording? Nothing? Would Would there be nothing? Oh, okay. All right, so you guys are dismissed. Take it easy. If you guys came [music] up to me more cordially in the beginning, I would have answered your questions, but you guys are dismissed. Wait, you're telling me BS. You're telling me BS, so you guys are dismissed. See you later. >> [music] >> Have a good one. Great for a business though. Three cops with the lights [music] on sitting right outside in front. That's great. You must really care about them. Another female supervisor arrived and attempted [music] a softer approach. Hi, how are you? Um are you filming for like a certain reason? Like I said, I'm not going to I'm not going to give any answers. I have no more answers for any more questions. >> That's fine. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. If you're doing a project or something, we just We just like to check it out and make sure everybody's okay. I mean, that that if you had said that, I would have answered your questions. I would have answered your questions, but you came over here and you tried to strong arm me and BS me to make me crumble under your will. And that's not what I'm going to do. That's okay. So, you guys you guys got anything else for me? No. What was your name and badge number? Simmons. Simmons? Yep. Badge number? Uh it doesn't Shield number? No, it does. It absolutely does. 792 790 What was [clears throat] your last name? Sabins Sabins, thanks. All right, you guys have a good day. Take it easy. You guys are dismissed. As the encounter ended, the auditor gathered names and badge numbers from the officers who had crossed the line. >> [music] >> No footage was deleted, no seizure occurred, and he continued exercising his constitutional right. If you thought officers misunderstanding the law was bad, wait until you see this next case, which spiraled into total confusion over a verbal disturbance, all because a man dared to film in public. What are you doing? May I ask your name? Excuse me, one moment. I'll get the postmaster. So, I'm being detained? You are being detained, yes, sir. >> crime? There is a verbal disturbance here, that's all I need to investigate. Since you're not going to give up your name or anything like that, you are delaying my investigation, just so you're aware. The walk of shame, that's what you're doing right now. The encounter began as multiple people approached [music] the man lawfully filming. What should have been routine quickly took a bizarre turn when a supervising deputy stepped in. Hello, sir. Can I help you? Can I help you, sir? Who are you? I'm the supervisor. Can I ask what you're doing? What's your name? Can I ask you what you're doing? Do you have a name? Yeah, I have a name. What are you doing? >> May I ask your name? Excuse me, one moment. I'll get the postmaster. Okay. How's it going, sir? Sir. Can I talk to you over here? Can we just talk over here? What's wrong with talking to me here? I just want to talk to you in front of my car where we're not in front of the entrance so we can just have a little peaceful conversation. That's all I want. All right, go ahead and walk. I I prefer you in front of me if you don't mind. >> not going to walk in front of you, sir, that's officer safety reasons. We can walk that way. Walk towards my car. He's making me backwards, guys. Sir, I'm not making you walk backwards. You're walking backwards yourself. We're going to keep you on camera, so you >> Okay. You can keep me on camera. I just want to talk to you. That's all I want to do. I don't appreciate being on the camera without my permission. That's against So, for am I being detained? >> No. Sir, you're being detained right now just for trying to figure out what's going on here. That's all I'm trying to do. Is there We got called there's a verbal dis There's a verbal disturbance here. >> back up just a little bit? 6 ft? >> We're going to walk back here. >> 6 ft, please. >> to walk back in front of my car. The citizen exposed the shaky foundation of the encounter as the officer cited a vague verbal disturbance with no complaint, no evidence, and no actual offense to point to. So, I'm being detained? You are being detained. Yes, sir. >> crime? There is a verbal disturbance here. That's all I need to investigate. All right? Verbal disturbance? Yes, sir. I need your driver's license or an ID card. What's going to happen to me if I don't give you my document? >> to I have to show I have to know who you are so I can trespass you if required. That's all I need to know. >> disturbance is a crime? Sir. So, I'm being accused of a crime? You are not being accused of a crime. That's what I'm trying to explain. >> Because there was a verbal disturbance. All right? We're not going to go down this road. We're not We're not going to go down this road. All right? We're just going to have a conversation. >> am Are we not going to go down? >> Gosh. Sir, can you just listen to me? >> being Are you Are you becoming frustrated? Are you becoming frustrated? >> No, sir. I just want to know what >> want to go down this road? That's what I'm trying to find >> to know what my rights are in this situation. Just like all your rights everywhere else. You're in America. You have all your rights. >> a name and badge number? It's right here. My name's right there. >> is right here? Right there. It's on You can put it on camera. I don't care, sir. I need to know who Let's slow down these cameras. Is your Is your camera activated right now? >> Yes, sir. Okay. Make sure it's on. >> It's It's been on this entire time. >> It's covering your name. You can have my card. I do not care, sir. I need to impute. Say again? >> Yes, sir. Impute. All right? I just need to know who you are so that I can figure all this out, then we can go about our merry way. That's all I need to figure out. >> Okay, who has complained against me? Multiple people along with the post office. So >> Do you have their names? I don't because I'm not sitting in front of my computer. I need to know your name. What is your name? Why do you need to know my name? So if I have to trespass you, I need to know who I'm trespassing. It's kind of hard to trespass an unknown person, isn't it? So I'm being detained right now? >> you? I'm being detained right now for filming? Because it's all on There was no There was no verbal disturbance. That's what I'm getting told. There was a verbal disturbance, citizen dispute. That is what I'm here for. >> I've got it all on video. There was no verbal disturbance. >> Well, that's what I'm here for. I don't know because I've been talking to you since I got here, correct? >> Okay, is Is am I being accused of a crime? Sir, I need to figure out what's going on. I need to identify who you are and who everybody else is involved in this whole thing. I don't understand why you need to know who I am to decide whether there was a crime being committed. >> Gosh. Sir, what's your name? >> Can we just de-escalate a little bit? >> I am de-escalating. I am not around you. >> frustrated. Well, tell me who you are. Well, I don't want to give you up my fourth amendment rights voluntarily. >> up your fourth amendment rights. >> going to uh threaten me with arrest, I'm not going to uh volunteer any information to you. As the exchange dragged on, the deputy demanded ID and threatened charges even while the citizen wasn't suspected of any crime. [music] With each explanation, the contradictions only deepened. Sir, who are you? Again, unless you threaten me with arrest, I'm not going to identify. What is your name? Again, I am >> What will happen to me if I don't If I do not give you my identity? If there's a crime, then I'm going to charge you with multiple crimes. If there's a crime? If there was a crime that was committed, or if you're trespassing, or anything like that, then I'm going to charge you with obstruction. Okay. Well, until you tell >> and Until you tell >> Delaying and interfering with my investigation, that is what I'm going to charge you with. It's just like if you were driving down the motor roadway, and you do not provide a driver's license or ID card to prove who you are. Can we get a supervisor [music] here, please? >> I have two other deputies here. Okay. I need to talk to a supervisor. I need to talk to Why do you need to talk to a supervisor? >> Cuz I don't believe you know the law. Okay. >> You're not respecting my my my constitutional rights. >> I am here to do a job, right? And I got called here lawfully and told that there was a citizen dispute and a verbal disturbance. And I told you that I don't >> I am not here to argue with [music] you about the verbal disturbance. I need to know who's identified on what crimes and what stuff, so I can investigate what's going on. Okay. Okay. >> And then if and then I am I would like to talk to a supervisor, please. Please. 2334, 2336. Kootenai County Sheriff, guys. Can you come over to this location? What's your first name? You can call me good citizen. I'm not going to call you good citizen. I want to talk to you like a human being. I want to know your name, that way I can talk to you. >> fine. 19, can you go ask what's going on? And find out what they want done. Three cars out here for a guy with a camera. Three squad cars. It could be all resolved very quickly, so >> here, sir? I already called my supervisor. >> Thank you. Since you're not going to give up your name or anything like that, you are delaying my investigation, just so you're aware. The deputy bounced between arrest threats and backtracking, unable to keep his story straight, while the citizen calmly stood his ground. I just want you to be aware, that's all I want. Well, I just want you to be aware that I'm not going to give you my ID unless you threaten to arrest me. I don't want to go to jail. >> to arrest you? I'm not going to threaten to arrest you. I'm just going to arrest you if I have a crime or something. You realize that, right? I'm not going to threaten to arrest you. >> you my ID if you're going to arrest me. If If it can stop me from being arrested, if if giving you my ID stops me from going to jail, then I'm going to give you my ID. Well, that'd be nice. Okay. But if I don't have to give you my ID, I don't want to give you my ID. What are you doing, man? Filming. Like what? This? Yep. >> too pretty. It's kind of a snowy day. >> Analytics. Filming. COVID-19. You got anything better to do today? >> You guys don't have to wear masks. I'm like 6 ft away from you right Well, he come right up on me. I asked him to step away. He wouldn't do it. He started getting very agitated. I know the guy for years. He doesn't get agitated. Well, I got him on film, bud. Oh, man. Bet you did. Yep. What's your name and badge number? You want to identify? We don't have badge numbers on You're the public servant here. You're the one that's supposed to identify, not the public. You're not our master. You're not our master. I'm not saying I'm your master. >> acting like it. Stop Why Why are you going down this route? What is behind all this? Like why are you trying to do this? What is What is your purpose right now? Well, right now I'm just standing up for my fourth amendment rights, and you don't seem to like that. It irritates you. It doesn't irritate me. Sure it does. >> I love the Constitution. >> a right to know who I am. If I haven't broken a law, you have no authority over me. You've been illegally detaining me now for about 10 minutes. Okay. If you would like to leave, you can leave. Well, you just told me I was detained. >> Yeah, well, this crime was committed by you, but if you're going to leave, if you're going to leave, then If I'm free to leave, I'm free to stay. >> We're not going to go back there. Why are you following me in front of me? You just said I was free to leave. I'm going to go back there because I got to figure out what's going on back there. But if you're going to walk down the road, I don't care. If I'm free to leave, I'm free to stay. Am I detained? Am I detained? What? Let me figure out what's going on back >> won't tell me whether I'm detained or not? This is a tyrant right here. Okay, this He will not tell me whether I'm being detained. >> You want to go back there. I am This is the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department, guys. Am I detained? If you're going to walk away, if you're going to walk away, then go ahead. But if you're not going to walk away, if you're going to stay here, then I need to figure out what they want to do, if they want trespassing. This is public property. You can ask me to leave, but you can't trespass me from public property. You Did you take an oath to the Constitution? All right. Oh man, it's cold. Hey man, all that I ask you do is just not maybe not stick >> You can ask all you want, bud. to keep your 6 ft from people. >> What's your name and badge number? Well, you can go stand there all you want video. Well, what's your name and badge number? All right. What's your name and badge number? That's all I know. That's all I need to know, sir. That's all it was. >> They won't identify. They come up here like a tyrant. The walk of shame. The walk of shame. In the end, the officers quietly disengaged, declining to identify themselves while the citizen remained exactly where he had the right to be, filming. You'd think that these encounters can't possibly get any more reckless? Well, the next case crosses a line that should never be crossed where a routine check spiraled into a total breakdown of constitutional boundaries all because a man was sitting in [music] his parked car. Name and badge number. If you can read, there's where it is. >> No, what's your name? I'm asking you a question. >> answer your question? Say it out loud. >> No. This shorty pulled her taser on me for nothing. And she ain't answering no questions. She just pulled up and asking me why I'm parked. The confrontation began when a female officer approached the man [music] who legally parked in a business lot after hours. Yet, from the very first moment, the officer took an aggressive approach to a very [music] normal situation. >> Name and badge number. If you can read, there's where it is. >> No, what's your name? I'm asking you a question. >> answer your question? >> Say it out loud. >> No. No. Watch out. Get from in front of my door. This This lady touching me. That's a I'm getting this all on camera. This is a This is a I'm actually not. >> This is a Why are you standing in front of my door? Why are you over here? Why are you over here? Why are you over here? This shorty pulled her taser on me for nothing. And she ain't answering no questions. She just pulled up and asking me why I'm parked. Why I'm parked in a legally parked spot. No. You ain't traffic stop me. [music] I wasn't even driving or doing nothing. I had no reason to show you my license. No reason. Is it a law to just give you my license cuz you asked for it? You getting upset cuz you She's a power tripper. Look at her. Look at her. She's upset cuz she She ain't getting what she asked for. I'm the person who's going to be upset in the end. I'm probably going for what? That's right now. >> Technically, For what? >> What's technically obstruction of what? Obstructing of what? That's not illegal. That's not illegal. That's not illegal. It's not illegal to be here. This business activity, right? Yeah, it's closed. And it says no trespassing, right? Right. Where? Where does it say no trespassing? I showed you that. I'm parked right here. >> So, do you have your driver's license? >> That lot is over there. Yes or no? That I have my license. Yes, I do. No, I'm not. What's on the car? No, I'm not. This is my car. No, I did roll it Is Is this my window? Is this my window? You do know my name cuz you probably ran my plates. Well, then go find out and run the plates. Despite the man's attempts to de-escalate, the officer doubled down, even though no underlying crime had ever been identified. >> What do you expect from me, bro? Like I'm not one of those. Who do you think I am? >> I'm not one of those. See, look at you. Look at you. You're a dyke that thinks you got some sort of power, shorty. For real. You all [ __ ] confused. Yes, you are. Why? You didn't tell me why. Why I got to give you my ID? You ain't told me no crime or nothing. I already told you what you what Shorty, you got me aggravated and excited. I'm speaking with energy. How? How? How was that suspicious? How was a parked car in a parking lot suspicious? I do comprehend. You trying to come up with some fabricated [ __ ] And I'm asking you questions and you're not answering them. You saying suspicious activity, but I'm parked in a parking lot. So, I want to be clear. You So, You have show me your ID three times, [music] right? >> Cuz you haven't told me why. I already told you why. Yes or no? Tell me why. Why are you stopping me? Yes or no? I'm asking you a question. Yes or no? Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Please tell this girl to back up and leave me alone. Let me close my door. I don't like my door open. This is private. This is This is a closed business. That's all. All right. Bro, I come here every day. I I my I come here every day and take my break and I do my meditations. I listen to my music. She saw exactly what I was doing when she came here. I saw you when I walked here. You were about to pull up. >> Shorty, you tripping. You're tripping and that's sad. That's sad. You guys got You guys got better things to do than this. No, I'm not changing no story. There's no story to change. I have no story. I have no story. No. No, cuz I have not committed no crime. Yes, I do care. I don't care what you care about, but I care what I care about and I don't like police coming out here trying to around like I'm some park Shorty, close my door. Close my door. Bro, I'm from Baltimore, Maryland originally. I've been out here for 4 years, bro. I've been out here for 4 years. I've been driving Uber for 2 years, bro. So, you want to come up and act You know that You want to do a check? That's fine. Do the check. But, you see what I'm doing. No, you can't >> [music] >> Shorty, you said you got it on camera. Cuz I didn't see you. I did not see you. I did not see you. My windows are dark. I don't just look in the back when You didn't have any lights. How did I even know you was coming? So, you got upset that I was driving off thinking I was trying to get away from you, but I didn't see you. >> [music] >> Shorty, you was upset and you was power tripping. You opened my door. You opened my door on a power trip. You grabbed my arm and you pulled your taser out on me and said you was going to tase me for nothing. For nothing. So, I said at [music] this point, let me get my phone. Let me get my phone for my protection because you supposed to be my people and you ain't supposed to You doing this type of to me, bro. And we going to take [music] this to wherever we got to take it to. As additional officers arrived, the contradictions piled up and each explanation collapsed under basic questioning. Can you back up and and get the Let me close my door. Then I'm not giving you nothing cuz I don't like how I will talk to you through the window. Shorty, what Then okay, then I'm not giving you nothing. You don't want to work with me, I'm not working with you. [music] Let's make an agreement. Let's make a deal. You close my door, I give you my license. Okay, then I'm not giving you my license. See, this is what she's been on. And And she tried to switch it up, not me. You was on 10,000 and you still are. I don't really you know, it don't really matter to me, but you don't want to work with me, I ain't going to work with you. And you know, whoever you got coming, whoever you got coming, it don't matter to me. She's actually nice, man. >> No, she's not. You think she is. What after this somebody can That's what you think. Like I don't do that. I don't even I don't even >> What you mean you don't do that? How do we get to this point? Did you put your taser on me? Why did you open >> Did you open my door aggressively? Why? >> On a power Why that I'm asking you why. You tell me why. That's actually a great question. Why did you open my door like that when I tried to roll my window up cuz you didn't like it? >> up when I was >> Cuz you didn't like No, you was not. You was just sitting there. >> when you attempted to put your car in drive >> illegal? >> I allow you to put your car >> for me to roll my window up while you're speaking to me? Why? So that's why I I just told you why. >> see what you have in your hand. What are you doing? You didn't see me. >> You therefore yes, I'm going to open your door every single time. >> See, look at you. Look at you. See? See, look at you. The turning point came when a calmer officer finally stepped in. I was like, "Well, what's up? What you doing out here? Let me see your ID." I'm not showing you nothing. I ain't got to show you nothing. I ain't doing nothing wrong. The closed business says no trespassing. You're not supposed to be here. Sir, as I explained to her and this gentleman when he came with some common sense I drive Uber. I come >> put the car in >> He let the win- well, let the window back up. So I opened the door and pulled out my taser. I said, "Bro, I will tase you. Like let's be for real." He's like, "You don't And that's illegal. You don't have jurisdiction to do that. >> So please So if I roll my window up, you get a angry. That doesn't give you the right to aggressively open my door and pull your taser on me. What's the crime? Yes, sir. Do you understand why this officer made contact with you? Man, no, brother. I come here every day. I do my meditations and I take my break. I drive Uber. Okay. I never had any issues, man. It's a closed business. Nobody's doing nothing here. It's a parking lot. I find a place to park where it's where I got some space and I do me, brother. I look into the sun and I meditate and I do my healing energy. I I go to pull off. I didn't see her. I didn't see her. When she knocked, I stopped and acknowledged her. Okay, what's going on? I didn't continue to try to speed off or none of that. Shorty's on her aggressive I don't know what's going on brother, but I know what something called for and I know my rights is being violated and she want my ID and all this stuff for no reason when I committed no crime. Okay, well you have business that's closed is vacant. All right. Okay. So, she does have the right to request your ID. However, you're lucky cuz we have identified who you are. So, have a good day. All right, Mr. Bogus and thank you for being a wise man. Thank you. The encounter ended as abruptly as it started and no justification was ever established for the door opening or taser threat. And just when it seems that it can't get worse, the next case shows how fast things can spiral and officers lie and try to remove someone from a public building without a single lawful order. Hey, get your hands off of me. Get your hands off of me. >> you doing out here, sir? What are you doing out here, sir? What are you doing out here? >> You're literally right in my face. I've stayed on public the whole time. Step off of their property, sir. I'm not on their property. The encounter began calmly with the man filming a bank from a public area as the curious staff questioned him. A minute slate everything changed as soon as an officer arrived and confronted the citizen aggressively. I can't really hear you from over there. I'll give you three guesses. Well, I know you're recording. I'm just not sure why. Well, specifically the bank I should say. I mean, I'm I'm just making a video. That's it. Okay, you doing the whole shopping center or is it specifically the bank? I don't know, maybe just Dogwood. Um, I you want to answer some questions? Is that a room up top? It is not. It's not. It's not a part of our building. It has a like a vault in there. Oh, neat. Neat. Cool. That's open on the inside. That's how we bring things in and out. Okay. Yeah, no problem. It's strange to have someone walking around the building filming. You want to know what's also strange though, and I mean this in the most respectful way is the way that you came up, the way that you waved and like it y'all saw you recording. Yeah, I what yeah, for sure. Oh, oh, no, I'm not a landscaper. Oh, no, no, no. Yeah, I'm not that. Yeah, I'm staying on public. I I looked it up. I know where my bounds are. I have no intention of going in or on you guys' property. Uh Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I appreciate it. Yeah, y'all too. Thanks. Blue lights, cutting through traffic. We're going to take this man on a little bit of a walk, I think. Sir. Sir, what are you doing out here? What are you doing out here, sir? Hey, get your hands off of me. Get your hands off of me. What are you doing out here, sir? What are you doing out here, sir? When the citizen calmly explained his intentions, the officer's response was bizarre and inappropriate, to say the very least. I'm asking you to back off. I'm asking you to back off. I'm asking you to back off. For what? What kind of ID? What are you doing out here? What I'll give you three guesses. What are you doing out here, sir? I'll give you three guesses. Do you have ID? Do you have ID? Do you have ID, sir? Do you have ID? What are you doing out here? What are you doing out here? What are you doing out here, sir? What are you doing? Do you have ID out here, sir? Get off of that property. Step over to the road with me. >> I'm not on their property. >> Yes, you are. This is their property. >> what a public easement is? Do you understand what a public easement is? Step over here, sir. >> No, sir. Step over to the property. >> I'm on a public easement. I looked it up before I came here. >> This is their property. Sir, go look up the GIS information. This is a public easement. >> [music] >> Do you see that right there? This is their property. Do you see that right there? You're not going to look? I'm not going anywhere, man. I'm on public. I'm on public. This is their property, sir. It's not. I've stayed on public the whole time. Step off of their property, sir. I'm not on their property. How about this? How about this? But you see that right there? No, you see that right there? I'm not on their property. I'm going back this way. I'm going back this way. Cool, man. Another officer arrived on the scene to try and get a grip [music] on the situation. That was better about 15 minutes ago. Are you his supervisor? No. No, no, no. Can you call one out here? I mean, yes. >> I I No, I need one out here. He just put his hands on me. I was standing on public. He put his [ __ ] hands on me. I want a supervisor out here. Okay. All right, I'll try to get a hold of somebody. I just I just came You're fine. I got it. >> out here. You got it, man. >> Now, are you the same gentleman we've seen downtown before? Uh I don't I don't remember, Godfrey. No, I don't I've never spoken with you, I don't believe. >> Uh Sanford, uh yeah. It It could be me, I don't know. >> The officer hesitated, downplayed, and left the citizen alone as the encounter ended swiftly. Moving on to the next case, which revealed something even more troubling. Police attempting to issue unlawful orders based on disrespect, and then retaliating once their authority was openly challenged. >> No, I mean like with your parking job. You're not looking intoxicated, are you? So, explain to me what the crime was again? As far as we know, you were disturbing the the the business >> as you know. So, what are you going off of? What are you going off of? Better luck next time. Yeah, no, the intimidation doesn't work with me. The encounter began as casually as possible. Officers approached a man in a parking area under the pretense of a call about disturbing behavior. But, within seconds it became clear that no actual crime was being investigated. Oh. Could be better, could be worse. Not too bad. Are you like What's going on? We got a call about >> No, I mean like with your parking job. You're not looking intoxicated, are you? Okay, so we just got a call saying that you were I'm just going to bypass and shelve that one. Go ahead, continue. >> Okay, it was a little disrespectful, but that's all right. >> I'm sorry? I said it was a little disrespectful, but >> Oh, little disrespectful? Yeah. Would you accept that from me? Well, we're here to talk We're here to talk to you. >> Oh. So, that gives you the right to Well, there's safety procedures, so >> Right. It's starting with the emergency lights if you're not going to follow traffic laws, right? Okay, so what's uh We got We were called here because somebody said you were disturbing Fantastic. on scene. Do you have your ID with you? Excuse me? Do you have your ID with you? Do I have my ID on me? No, I don't. Rather than articulating a clear violation, the officer began an inquiry without explaining what law required it or what crime the citizen was suspected of committing. What are you getting at here? I'm I'm confused. >> So, I was called here for a law enforcement purpose. Somebody said you were disturbing on the property. >> Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, yeah. >> So, I just Me? Yes. I just need you to identify yourself. >> not going to do that. Okay, well, you have to. So, explain to me what the crime was again? As far as we know, you were disturbing the the the business. Okay. I'm just trying to get all my facts straight here, man. No, you're trying to record and make a video. So, you can look like a good guy. Well, if I'm the good guy, what does that make you then? I'm saying that's what you're trying to do. So, are you saying I'm the bad guy? I'm saying that you're not providing your name. Right, why would I have to? Why would I I'm supposed to? Says who? All right. Well, I tell you what. No, I I'm good on your directives. I'll tell you what, you should probably just either get back in your car and fix your parking job. orders from you, bud. All right, good. Sounds good. Okay, well, let's just get something straight real quick. You're not going to dictate how this goes. Oh, yeah? We're here first. All right, I'm good. I I don't need any more directives. I'm not going to answer any more questions. I'm just going to continue on doing what I'm doing. I'm going to step over there about 20 ft. You can follow me if you'd like, but I'm just going to sit there and ignore you if you're going to speak at me, okay? Sound good? We're trying to have a conversation. Have a good one, guys. Take it easy. I'm not going to dictate how this goes. We'll see. As a citizen disengaged and exercised his right to walk away, the officer's frustration became palpable. And what began as an empty investigation turned into something personal. Yeah, you guys should probably take off. Hey, you guys are dismissed. Have a good one. There you go. Oh, that one that one got under your skin, huh? Oh. >> [laughter] >> Is that the face you usually make at people? Come on now. You have a terrible lying face, bro. Terrible. He had to check. He has to check to see if his lying face is on. He went into he went into the Pizza Hut. So, maybe he's hungry. Maybe they're just hungry. Oh, oh, maybe this guy wants to get something else to make him get hungry. Look at these guys. I can't believe it. Hey, you guys are dismissed, though. Have a good one. Oh, he'll be back? Oh. Oh. Okay. I'm going to do the same thing he did this time. Squat. Oh, we will see. Sir, are you listening? So, I'm just going to tell you now, we called the individual that made us the call initially and he's saying that you were yelling at customers, people in the parking lot. I'm just going to advise you not to bother the people that are patroning this area. All right? Do you understand? You're out on the sidewalk at Yeah, there's nothing you could do. Yeah, don't don't run across the road, don't run with scissors. Yeah, don't yell at anybody in there cuz you'll be causing a disturbance now. You should probably fix your parking job, too. That's creating a disturbance as well. Hey, hold on. Follow the tip of my finger right here. Ready? Ready? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Oh, it looks like I did dictate this stop now. Ugh. Better luck next time, guys. Better luck next time. Yeah, I know, the intimidation doesn't work with me. You're right, it's not working. no legal standing to go off on, the officers had to walk away. [music] And the encounter ended as the citizen refused to be intimidated by them. Here's another officer who stopped a citizen for no reason, only to get schooled [music] on the law by someone who actually knew it. The 22nd of May, 2022, an officer noticed a man flipping him off at a red light. Even though this wasn't an illegal offense, the officer still decided to pull him over. A decision he would later regret as the man was highly educated on the law. What are you pulling me over for? Illegal pull over. Illegal pull over, buddy. You just pulled me over unconstitutionally. Do you understand that? >> speeding. I'm not speeding. >> about me speeding. >> a I got a [ __ ] dash cam with my GPS on it, buddy. Listen. You flipped me off while I'm driving down the That's not illegal, buddy. It's not illegal. You just committed a crime. Both You're not getting license and registration. Seconds after talking to the driver, the officer reveals the real reason behind the stop is because the man flipped him off at a red light. Later on, it was actually revealed that the man gave the officer the middle finger because he saw him driving way over the speed limit. It's kind of interesting seeing [music] the officer accusing the driver of something he is in fact guilty of himself. As the situation unfolds, things get crazier and crazier. I have a committed no crime. What's What's my crime? >> guy that's always pulling You're What's my crime, buddy? Give me your license and registration. >> What's my crime? >> I paced you. Pace me Pace me. Let me see your thing. Let me see your gun Let me see your gun, buddy. You pace me. Get out of here. Let me see your radar gun. I'm not giving you registration. You pulled me over unlawfully, sir. Santos, number 620. >> Santos 620. No, I'm not giving you license registration. You pulled me over unlawfully, buddy. Unlawful pull over. You don't want me to go to work now? No. Yeah, okay. Okay. I'm not giving you Under what? If I don't, what are you going to do? Fail to identify. That's a secondary crime, dude. That's a secondary crime. That's an arrestable offense. Is it? >> Yeah. >> What did you pull me over for? I told you, speeding. Give me your license and >> Speeding? I'm giving you license registration under threat of arrest. All right, man. >> And and you're litigation, buddy. Litigation. Litigation. Here's my license. Here's my license. Here's my registration. And you're going to litigation, buddy. You are. No problem, buddy. No problem. Realizing that he is totally outclassed in terms of legal knowledge, the officer decides to walk away. Moments later, he returns. However, not empty-handed. He has something to deliver to the driver. You called back up code three for a speeding ticket and a camera, you coward. You're a coward, buddy. You're receiving your speeding ticket. >> Good. Give me my speeding ticket and get away from me. I don't need no more lawful directions from you, buddy. Whose truck is this though? Is it your work truck? I don't answer questions. Give me my ticket. >> with your work company as well, all right, man? You go ahead and do what you need to do, buddy. Threaten me some more. Threaten me some more. Litigation will start against you, Santos. Punk. Go ahead and fight the ticket, all right? I will fight the ticket, yeah. Coward punk-ass [ __ ] It's very clear to see that this case isn't really about the speeding ticket, but instead the officer's need to retaliate after he got flipped off. You have to be cool, calm, and collected to be an officer. And this is a perfect example of what happens when you don't possess these kind of qualities. We don't know what happened to the man. However, as he said in the video, he had plans to fight the ticket in court. Moving on to the next case, Marine sharp, no-nonsense veteran went head-to-head with officers who tried to overreach their authority. Why? Why? Why are you detaining You're detaining me? No. No. Then my question is, are you detaining me? Okay. So, then don't tell me where to go. On the 26th of May, 2022, fellow police graduate Miguel McQueen was stopped by two officers after parking in a disabled spot. McQueen's car was equipped with a disabled veteran tag, making it completely legal for him to park in that spot. However, it didn't really seem like the officers cared about that. Can we see some ID? >> No, what for? I just asked >> What's your What's your probable cause to ask me for ID? It does not have a handicap placard. Read the plate, man. You're you're You don't even know what you're talking about. DV. That's disabled veteran plate. We can park in handicap spots. Let me see some ID, please. >> No. During the incident, McQueen was wearing his police gear, which he was fully allowed to do because he was a police graduate. Despite this, the officers were still suspicious of him. So, McQueen told them to run his name in the TCOLE database. This specific database has the name of every certified policeman in Texas. I have my certification. What are you talking about? Why don't you run the Why don't you run the plate? Why don't you run the plate? Run the plate, man. I gave you permission. And what did you see? Nothing. You had to see the certificate certification. You had to see it. No, that's not You had to see it. You had to see it. Come on, man. >> Certification isn't on your tag. When you run my name, you can find it. Contact TCOLE. Why don't you contact them? You saw my name, call TCOLE. Go ahead. Run it. Run it. Call TCOLE. Why? Why? Why? You detaining You're detaining me? No, no. Then my question is, are you detaining me? Okay, so then don't tell me where to go. No, no, no, no. No. Do you mind holding off on leaving until I find out what's going on to see if you're Ask him cuz that's my captain. He's in charge of this. If I Okay, he's He's He's not He's not too smart because first of all, I mean, first of all, even you know if I have disabled veteran plate, I can park in a handicap spot. Even you know that. No, no, no. They didn't just change that. It's been that way. The main problem the police are having with McQueen is that he parked in a disabled spot. According to Texas laws, however, he is totally allowed to do that because of his disabled veteran plate. Eventually, the two officers returned to tell the man that he's free to go, but the graduate isn't leaving the scene before giving the officers a little of their own medicine. Check TCOLE. Did he call the bureau? He did call the bureau. Okay, so then so then you know, you're feeling small now, aren't you? No. No, I'm good. You shouldn't have run up on people. You have no probable cause. If you wanted to follow me or run my plates, you could have done that. >> have to talk to anybody. What? I don't have to talk to you. And you didn't. I don't have to talk to you. That's right. I already told you that. Waste my time and you. You're supposed to be a captain and you don't know that disabled plates have a right to park in a in a parking spot. And you're violating people's rights. Huh? Running up on them without probable cause. I'm in a uniform doing the same thing for you for free. So what? I don't care what he thinks. I'm a graduate and I have TCOLE certification. So I don't care what he says. I don't care what he says. I have TCOLE certification. I have TCOLE certification. Yes, I do. That's what you checked then. Who says who? My my certification doesn't say expired. Even after all this, the officer attempts to save face and straight up lie to the man when he tells him that his license is expired. This only escalated the situation further. You wanted it to be expired because you see brown skin. So take a walk. Walk of shame. Walk of shame, captain. Yeah, walk of shame. Don't run up on me again. Don't ever you run up on me again. Do you understand? Do you understand? And learn the law. And learn the law. And learn the law. And you better have probable cause before you run up on somebody in uniform. You don't have no reasonable suspicion because I'm on the same side of the you. >> No, you aren't. I have key code. I am a graduate of the police academy, okay, just like you years ago. You probably couldn't even pass the test. Right now. You go. You get going. You get going. You get going. I'm a peace officer and you had no probable cause. You had no probable cause to stop me. You had no probable cause. I have peace officer certification just like you. So, go learn the law before you start teaching young people how to do the job. You're a bad example to the young fellow over there. You don't even know the rules of parking. If you thought that these officers were cuckoo, wait till you see the next set of cops who tried to intimidate an innocent civilian, only to get completely owned by him. Hey gentlemen, how are How you doing tonight? Great. What you got there, man? What do you mean? Uh what kind of beverage is that? It's like a Pepsi. Stay your distance, please. Stay your distance. Yeah, I don't want two guys with guns coming up on me. Oh, we're police officers. Maybe you didn't notice. >> whether you're police officers or the mafia. The mafia? Yeah, you guys are rolling around and curving up on me with guns. Back up. We're police officers. We're here to serve and protect, sir. Serve and protect? You're trying to Cuz there's a lot of students here drinking, so we just wanted to No inquiry needed. So, yeah, well, our job is to make sure the community is safe and what people are >> stuff when you stop for everybody holding a can anywhere. Right off the bat, it's clear that the two officers have some kind of problem with the man. As it would be revealed later on, he is in fact holding a Pepsi can, which should be pretty easy to see for the officers, especially when they got up close to it. Weirdly enough, however, they continue to harass the man for basically doing nothing. Uh not everybody holding a can anywhere. Just me? No, just people that we feel might be drinking in public. Do you suspect I might be drinking in public? >> We have no idea. So, you do not suspect that I might be drinking in We have what is called a reasonable suspicion. That's what I'm asking. Do you suspect you said We have what's called a reasonable suspicion. Do you have a reasonable suspicion? >> do. What is that? I'm holding a can. That's your reason. That's not reasonable suspicion for drinking alcohol. reasonable suspicion Yeah. So, anybody holding a can is under reasonable suspicion. Typically, we like to see the can. Usually, we can see if it's an actual soft drink This may not be typical. Do I look imbibed on beverages in public, Officer Scott? I don't know. >> May I have your card, please? You have to come and get it. You didn't want me to get close to you. Will you please hand me your card? I'm requesting it. Let me see if I can do this from a distance. >> to articulate? Is this close You want me to set it down and then you can grab it? Would that be better so I don't get too close? Officer Avila Yeah. May I have your card, please? Excellent. Officer Avila has no problem being professional with the business card. Anything else that you gentlemen need besides Gestapo stops for cans? Yeah, it's [ __ ] Gestapo [ __ ] when you're going to stop me for a can on the sidewalk. That's sick. >> standing here. We didn't stop you. We just came up to talk to you. Oh, okay. Later. See you. Have a good night. Take care. Yeah. Good talking to you. Yeah. Realizing that they had nothing to charge the man with, the officers decided to leave him alone. It's extremely scary to know that there are other officers just like these two all over the US with nothing better to do than harass civilians going about their day. >> [music] >> What makes it even more disgusting is that the people that they are harassing are actually the ones paying their salaries. It's illegal to drink Pepsi on the hill, boys. Yeah, don't [ __ ] around with that Pepsi [ __ ] Jesus Christ.
