Most traffic stops start out routine. A broken tail light, a missing signal, nothing unusual. >> Drop the gun. I will shoot you. Drop the gun. Drop the gun. >> Do not move. Get the gun. Let's get him cuffed. >> LET ME SEE YOUR HAND. >> Let me see YOUR HAND. >> DO NOT REACH. DO NOT REACH. Sometimes [music] a simple pullover turns into the capture of a dangerous killer hiding in plain sight. >> Dude, my man, turn it back off. >> Where you going? >> 126 radio. He's taking off, brother. >> Two broken legs, possibly. Here are the times when cops discover a wanted killer during a traffic stop. Starting with the case of Cameron Jamaich Hopkins, whose [music] obsession with his ex escalated into something far darker. Despite her previous reports to police about his harassment, nothing was done until he kidnapped her at gunpoint and ended her life before officers could intervene. >> Less lethal. Less lethal. >> Come out. COME OUT THE CAR. >> PASSENGER LOOKS DECEASED. >> COME OUT. Where is she? She's in the car where you left her. >> On the 16th of July, 2023, police officers were dispatched to a restaurant after several frantic 911 calls reported a kidnapping in progress. Witnesses reported that a man had stormed in, held his ex-girlfriend, an employee, there at gunpoint, and forced [music] her into his car before speeding off. When officers arrived, they immediately spoke with the victim's boss, who [music] had seen the terrifying scene unfold firsthand. >> Are you mom? Are you mom or >> No, I'm her off. >> Where is she? >> He took her. He Okay. I just I just got off the phone with the operator because they told me that this was him. That's not him. It's a red Camaro like this, but it has >> No, no, we we they find him right now. So, all right. What happened? >> So, so I He came in the guy came in with this Well, he didn't come in exactly with him, but he came in with him and two other guys. And when she saw him, now earlier she did tell me that um he had just took out a loan in her name and some other stuff. And she told me this when she got to work at 7:00 this this evening. So she pulled me to the side and she was like, "Remember my ex-boyfriend I was telling you about? He just came in and I was like, "Where is he?" So cuz I wanted to, you know, make cuz she's she looked frightened. So when she told me what he had on, that's when he walked back cuz I guess he went around the back looking for her. He came back around and he walked back through here and I was like, "Excuse me, you can't come back here." And he pushed past me and walked up to her and she started screaming. She's like, "He got a gun. He got a gun." And I heard him [ __ ] the gun, grab her arm, and he walked her out with the gun at her side like this and walked her out the front door. >> Okay, one second. >> Meanwhile, another officer spotted a vehicle matching the suspect's description and began tailing it, hoping [music] it was just a coincidence. But to their horror, it wasn't. [screaming] >> Looks like they turned into this high school here. Middle school. >> Hang on. Just right. I don't know. >> Radio fired. >> Hey, I'm behind you. I'm behind you. >> Where is he? >> I don't know. Hey y'all hold up right here. They're still in the vehicle with fire. Units advised Clayton. Units advised we're at Love Joy High School. Warning, did you see them go out the back? >> They still got to be in there. >> Warning, can you see anything from your side? >> Driver's seat. >> Driver seat. >> We got to move. We're in the >> Yeah. >> At this point, [music] the tension had reached an all-time high, and no one knew if the suspect was still armed or if the victim [music] was even alive. The cops needed to proceed with caution if they wanted to save the situation and rescue the woman in distress. However, time was not on their side. They needed to find a way to force the young man out without risking the safety of his ex-girlfriend. >> Less lethal. >> Less lethal. >> I'm on your left. not busting the windows like I wanted to. >> All right. >> Is she in the vehicle? >> Yes, she is. >> Yeah, both of them are in there. >> OC. >> Yeah. >> What? You're on the phone. I'm out. All right. Fish are running my truck. Reload. [cough] >> She is. >> I see. It looks like somebody laying in the front. >> Lost fire. Lost fire. >> Okay, you stay back. We're up here. >> I got hands in the back window. KEEP YOUR HANDS AT THE WINDOW. PUT YOUR HANDS BACK UP IN THE WINDOW. >> KEEP THAT hand out the window. >> All right. Tell him to get out the Hey. Let me shield. >> I'm coming with the shield. >> STAND BACK. SHIELD. SHIELD. SHIELD. >> Back up. There ain't no point moving up on him. CALL HIS ASS DOWN. >> COME OUT. >> COME OUT THE CAR. Passenger looks deceased. >> Come out. >> Climb over. >> Come out. >> Climb out of the window. >> Get out. >> CLIMB OUT OF THE WINDOW. >> COME OUT THE WINDOW. >> CLIMB OUT OF THE [screaming] WINDOW. >> I KNEW YOU HEARD THAT. >> She's deceased. She's gone. She's gone. >> MAN, GET OUT OF THE CAR, MAN. >> Get out OF THE CAR. >> GET OUT OF THE CAR. >> MY SOUND is off. Then crawl out. >> Crawl out. >> For a brief moment, he appeared remorseful. The damage was [music] irreversible. >> Hey, we will. But we need you out of the car. >> GET OUT OF THE CAR, MAN. >> GET OUT OF THE CAR. >> GET OUT OF THE CAR. >> Just come out of the car for us. >> 48. [music] >> Son, you got to come out the car, man. >> Crawl out. Let me give you the >> one voice. One voice. >> You give voices. >> Come out of the car, man. Look, come out of the car and we can help you and we can help her. >> Keep your hands where I can see you. >> Step out. Step out. Keep your hands up and then step out. >> Come out. >> LOOK, MAN. Come to us. >> Do it now. >> I got you. You ready? >> One more. More. More. Damn it. More. >> I'm with you. >> Yeah. We got it. We got it. Where's the gun at? >> There's a gun in the passenger floorboard. All right. He's out of rounds is what it is. >> Y'all ready to start the story in now? >> Yes, sir. >> She's Yeah. >> The female victim was found lifeless at the [music] scene. Her fate sealed by someone she once trusted. >> We're not arguing with you, dude. >> All right. We're stick your head out. We're going to dump this on you so you can get some of that OC out of your eye. >> Turn this Turn your head the other way. You want some more? You want more? >> Where is she? >> Yes or no? Do you want more water? Can I use mo? >> I'll write one anyway. >> Where is she? She's in the car where you left her. >> In the [music] end, the suspect identified as 20-year-old Cameron J. Michael Hopkins was charged with kidnapping [music] and aggravated assault. Following the case of Cameron Hopkins, this next one took a quieter turn. A traffic stop [music] that became shocking when officers realized they had just detained Muhammad Bilal El Amin, a man wanted by the FBI for more than two decades. >> Unfortunately, I'm going to have to place you into custody today. Okay, we're going to go down to jail. >> Oh, no. I told you I was not going to get in my car. I swear to you, I wasn't going to get in my car. You're not going to speak to me? >> No. Unfortunately, I told you. I've already explained my position. >> Oh, this hurt. >> On the 16th [music] of August, 2022, police officers pulled over a man for driving with a suspended license. It seemed like a routine [music] stop until the man's behavior hinted that there was more beneath the surface. >> What's your What's your last name? >> Sim. Okay. >> All right. I'm going to have you go and step out the vehicle for me. >> She's going to come and get me. >> Yeah. So, you're about 57 minutes away from me. I was almost at the hospital. >> Okay, take this off. >> Um, just uh >> Yeah, send me what the information you put in your in your GPS cuz that way the same thing. >> I don't know the name of this place right here. >> We'll figure it out. We'll text it to you. >> So, here here's what's going to happen, Sim. Okay. Um, unfortunately, I'm going to have to place you into custody today. Okay. Have to go down to jail. Oh no. >> You got to get booked in. They got to take your fingerprints and picture and you'll get a bond. But because you're driving on suspended license, you got to go to the jail. >> Sir, I did not know. I have children. I have a sick uncle and I run the household. >> You don't have a choice at this time. Put under arrest. Go ahead. Turn around. Put your hands money back. Please. >> Please put your hands money back. >> Who set the phone up on the car? >> They put me under arrest right now. >> They I don't know. But driving was suspended license suspended license. >> I didn't know what and it's not even showing. Unfortunately, the law is different here in Georgia than it is in South Carolina. If you have a suspended license, you have to go down to the jail and get booked in. >> But sir, can you speak to my aunt? She speak. Yeah. No, please speak to her. Please speak to her. I'm the only one that can help with my uncle that's sitting in ICU right now. >> I'm sorry about that. force on your son. Sir, >> you're driving a car without valid insurance. >> My son, you got that taken care of. You're already driving a car without valid insurance. >> My cousin can't trust me to drive to drive. >> I swear to you, I'll walk away from my car. >> So, we're going to walk you back to this other car. >> Please, sir. We're going to walk you to my daughter's car. >> Sir, please. My aunt is old. She's 80 years old. >> Sir, please I swear you please check me. Please check everything on you. >> I'm going to search you and send to arrest. Huh? >> See where it says emergency 911. Yeah. >> Press forward. Okay. Step your feet out a little bit. Nothing in your pocket, right? >> Sir. Sir, please. >> What all do you need out of your car? >> I have a Sir, I have a child at the house that they cannot take care of. >> What all do you need out of your car? >> Sir, I beg you. So I do for my >> I do a seat for me. Sir, >> I just want you to turn and face towards me and then sit down in the seat. So I do for example, >> sir, I do for my entire family. >> Okay. I don't have a choice here, man. I'm telling you that's >> I told you I was not going to get in my car. I wasn't going to get in my car. >> Suspended license. You drive a car without insurance. You got that taken care of. >> I've been doing it every day. >> Suspended registration. >> You have to go down to the jail and get booked in. Take your photograph. They're going to take your fingerprints. They'll give you a bond amount. You can bond out and then you can get on the way up to the hospital, but you can't drive. >> He tried to get their sympathy with a story that sounded emotional, even desperate, but the officers weren't convinced. Something about his demeanor didn't add up. >> Have a seat, please. >> Okay. May I speak after you? >> Have a seat for me. >> Are you going to >> sit down and then I'll listen to you? >> Okay. So, what what do you want to tell me on >> on everything? My aunt just had a stroke. My uncle just had a stroke two and a half weeks ago. I'm here helping my family. I don't even know who can come and bomb me out. I don't even know who can come and buy me out. I'm not a criminal. I'm not a crook. I'm If you I look how old I am. >> Did you get a ticket or something to take care of? I mean, why would they suspend your license in South Carolina? >> I just found out speaking to the deputy. >> I just found out that maybe when we had a car that I had that got repossessed that I didn't take my name off of it. >> Okay. Um, >> I wouldn't imagine that they'd suspend you for a repossession, >> but that's what I'm saying. I did I don't But but no no information is coming up. I won't drive. I won't I'll have my cousin. >> Can you sign your legs in for us? >> You're not going to speak to me? >> No, unfortunately. I told you. I've already explained my position. >> Oh, this hurts. >> I don't have a choice, sir. Sir, I >> Sir. Okay. So, the way you're sitting right now is not a good position. You're a tall guy. You got long legs. Slide your knees over this way and sit at an angle. >> Got to move your knee. My my my This is on my >> Okay, I'll check it right now. I'm going to come to the other side. Watch your knee. >> So, I'm putting your headphones in your little black pouch. >> As they prepared to take him [music] to jail, tension filled the air. And when his fingerprints were finally processed, the truth came out after the man wasn't who he claimed [music] to be. Just know that I >> Can you speak to my aunt? She just only have a >> Uhuh. >> Just Just speak to my aunt because I do everything for the house. I >> I do everything. My son is there. He's only 13 years old. He doesn't He does not know what's going on. This is This is >> I don't Can you let my cousin know wherever it is I'm going? Can you let him know? >> Yeah. So, when you get there, you'll be able to call him. How How can I call them? >> When you when they book you in, they'll give you some phone calls so you can call them. >> All right. >> Yes. Because I I don't Yeah. >> Why? I thought you was going to let me just let my cousin pick me up. Why did this happen? >> I'm I'm sorry. >> Deputy So many people rely upon me. You do not know. >> You can look. You can get in and get out. All right. >> I can get in and get out. >> Yeah. Like they'll book you in if you have somebody that can bond you out. You have a preset bond. So, you can bond out of jail. You don't have to wait to see a judge. >> Well, how much is that? >> Uh, I'm not quite sure. They'll give it to you when we get there. Okay. We'll work with you. All right. We'll try to get you out as quick as possible. >> This is My uncle is sick. >> All right. Well, the quicker we get to jail, the quicker you can get out. Okay. >> Doors are all locked. All the windows are up. >> All right. Cool. >> What is it? >> I've never been to jail in my >> Okay. All right. It'll be fine. I promise. >> I'm not here. >> All right, we got to get you to the gym. >> Oh, man. All right. During the stop, deputies noticed inconsistencies in his identification and later confirmed through fingerprints that he was the same man accused of shooting 18-year-old Jeff Tucker Jr. in the face at Atlanta's Oakland City Martr [music] station on November the 27th, 1994. A crime that had remained unsolved for nearly three decades. The reason why, [music] whether it was an argument, impulse, or something else, remains unknown. Authorities have only described it as an unexplained, [music] senseless killing that left investigators puzzled for decades. In the end, Elmin, who was 19 at the time of the shooting, has now been formally charged for the death of Jafur Tucker Jr. Much like how Muhammad Bilal Elmin's ordinary stop exposed a decad's [music] old murder mystery, this next encounter also began quietly before unraveling into chaos on the road. >> I will you >> don't reach for the gun. You do >> not reach. On the 19th of September 2025, officers tried to pull over [music] a vehicle for a routine stop, but the driver, later identified as Deontis Williams [music] Spencer, had other plans. Instead of complying, he hit the gas and made a [music] run for it. What he didn't realize was that the officers behind him went about to let him make [music] the first move. >> We're not going to pursue this vehicle, but you can see in the area. Stay your ass. I will you. He's got a gun. Drop the gun. Drop the gun. I WILL DROP THE GUN. Drop the gun. >> Put the gun down. Drop it. >> 10 three fired. >> Don't reach FOR THE GUN. >> DO NOT REACH. >> Don't move. >> DO NOT REACH. >> DO NOT MOVE. >> Do not move. Get back. >> DO NOT MOVE. GET THE GUN. LET'S GET HIM CUFFED. >> Cuff him up. >> Moments later, the tables turned and the only thing William Spencer [music] could do was complain about a wound he had accidentally caused himself. >> Taking one into custody now. >> Go get some blades. Shut all this down. >> Where are you head? >> [screaming] >> Let's get >> Don't touch him. >> Get a tourniquet on him. [screaming] >> Do your job. Do your job. Watch. >> Hey, >> what do you need? >> You're good. >> You got shears to cut these off. >> You got shears to cut [screaming] these off. >> Your other leg. >> Are you your other leg? >> Yes. [screaming] >> Okay. Another target. He said this one too. You guys >> got the crowd off. Please get scenes off immediately and get everybody. >> Back up. >> You want to take so long? >> You're good. You're good. >> Yeah, we can't get those. >> In the end, Deontest William Spencer was [music] taken into custody after getting treated. He was charged with obstructing official business and aggravated [music] menacing. The past cases were nothing compared to a teenager who was caught hiding something far worse in the trunk of his car. I got to get his name here. I popped the trunk. Sorry, there's a dead body in the trunk. >> On the 29th of July 2020, Louisiana State Troopers pulled over a vehicle that was running way above the speed limit. However, the trooper had no idea that he was about to make one of the most discoveries of all time. >> Hey, sit back here with me, man. How are you? >> Hey, good afternoon. I'm Trooper Neilson, Louisiana State Police. Reason why I stopped you was for speeding. >> You know how fast you were going? What's that? >> 73 and a 55. So, it's 18 over the limit. Uh, do you have your driver's license? >> No, sir. >> Do you have a driver's license? >> No, sir. >> And why are you driving? >> I was just >> Okay. >> Going home. >> Do you have any weapons on you? >> No, sir. >> I just It's okay. I was just asking. What's your name, man? >> Michael. >> Michael. Is anybody with you? >> No, sir. >> You have insurance? Show me your insurance. Whose car is this, man? >> Big brother's car. your big brothers. >> For some reason, it was obvious that this young man was trying to hide something. He appeared very nervous and avoided eye contact with the officer. When asked about the ownership of the vehicle, he claimed it belonged to his elder brother. A statement that the officer would later confirm to be false. >> You smoking weed today? >> Look at me. >> I did. Really? I'm not high right now. >> Okay. All right. We'll take a look at you. Do you have an ID? You have any idea? Is there any weed in the car, man? Listen. Don't stop. Step. Step here. Step here to me. Look at me, Michael. Look at Make eye contact with me. Step out here. Step over here. Is there any weed in the car? >> Yes or no? >> Just a doobie in the ass lake. Okay. Other than that, dizzy. >> Anything else? >> Dizzy. >> All right. You be honest with me. I'll be honest with you. I ain't looking for no roach. You hear me? >> Yes, sir. >> Is there anything else in there? Let's see. I promise. >> Okay. It's in the ashtray. And that the cup thing? >> Yes, sir. >> Anything else? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. When's the When did you puff last? >> This is >> Be honest. Cuz I'm a drug recognition expert. >> About an hour ago. >> Okay. Okay. We're going I'm going to look at you. >> Somehow, as much as he tried to maintain a cool composure, he kept giving the officer some more hints to indicate that there might have been more to him than his young, innocent looks. >> All right. Where you headed right now? I was headed to I was headed back home. >> Okay. >> Where's home? >> What's your address? I got home. >> No. Stop. Stop. Come here. Where do you live? It's easy. It's easy to answer this. Where do you live? You You don't know how to drive to your house? >> I was coming from dead. How I got lost? 27. >> So, what's the address >> I'm called for? >> No. >> What? >> You don't know your address? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Come back here. Come back here. >> All right. Prop up on this bumper right here. Okay. Just sit down right here. Okay. >> All right. All right. >> You've admitted there's there's a small amount of in the car and I've smelled it. It's probable cause. >> Can I take a look at your car? >> Yes or no? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Okay. Nothing. Okay. It's your brother's car. This your brother's car. Hey, come here. Put that Put that phone on that hood. You >> know, you ain't going to sit here and be texting behind my back while I'm sitting here in this car. Get on that. Get on that car. >> As the officer searched the vehicle, he noticed some bullet holes in the vehicle, confirming his suspicions that this young man was really trying hard to hide something. However, what he didn't know was that this was nothing compared to what he would eventually find. >> All right. Now, step here. When all this happened? When all that happened? >> That happened? >> When? >> My brother, he said. >> How long ago? >> Days. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Come back. Just leave this here. Come back here. Just stay right here in front of my car. Is this your wrench? Uh, no, sir. At this point, it started becoming clear that this young man had been lying all along. >> All right, let me ask you something. >> Did you give me your right name? >> Yes, sir. >> What's your name? >> You got plats in your head? >> No, sir. Okay. Where you Where do you live? Be honest to me. Monunroe Richwood. You don't live in Winssboro. >> Why would you try to bluff me on that? >> Why would you lie to me on that? Cuz I already knew that before this guy said something. What's up? Talk to me. You better stop lying to me right now or you going to be in jail. >> I'm just going I'm just going to my sister's house. to your sisters. >> So when I kept asking you where you live, you don't even know cuz this ain't even your house. >> You better get some act right in you and stop lying. Some act right in you and stop lying to me or I swear to God you're fix to go to jail. Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> That's the last freaking lie you better tell me. Yes, sir. >> What's your last name? Who took the car? Who took that car from? Whoever it belonged to. >> He gave me permission. >> He Mike gave you permission to drive this car. >> Yes, sir. >> Who gave him permission? >> Say, please. How are you? >> The last part of the vehicle that had been unchecked up to this point was the car trunk. When the officer eventually looked into it, he was totally dumbfounded by what he found lying in it. It was at this point that this young criminal realized that he was neck deep in trouble. >> I'm going to do the obvious thing I want to do. >> Yep. >> Put your hands behind your back. Don't move. >> In the end, he was charged with. >> Now we have Augustine Antonio Tommpkins, a drunk driver who thought it was a good idea to flee from police with his entire family in the car. >> What did you just spray all that cologne for? >> What happened to the car? What you mean? >> Right here in the front. >> Ain't nothing happened to the car. >> Where you going? >> 126 right now. He's taking off. Oh, he just crashed the 422 eastbound. >> Tank is okay. >> Okay, thank you. >> Now you're concerned about your kids. Really? >> On the 1st of [music] July 2023, officers spotted a car swerving dangerously on the highway. The driver, later identified as Augustine [music] Antonio Tomkins, didn't even notice the flashing lights behind him until backup arrived. And within [music] seconds of contact, the officers realized that something was not right. How you doing? >> You got dryes on you. >> What' you just spray all that cologne for? Any webs inside the car? >> My name open. >> Yeah, open it up. >> You open it up. You good? You can't find your wallet or anything? Oh, no. Hold on for a second. Whoa, whoa, whoa. >> No, you're good. You good, man. You're all right. You're okay. >> I got my wallet, bro. >> I know. That's what I'm saying. I'm trying to help you out. You check your >> Listen, you don't got to help me. Uh, listen. I'm going to check my order right now. All right. >> Okay. Go ahead, man. Any webs inside the car? >> Y right now. >> Okay. >> Go ahead. Grab your ID then, man. >> I'm going to grab my ID. >> Okay. My ID. Okay. >> Tommpkins had his girlfriend and [music] kids in the car, but that did not stop him from putting every single one of them in harm's way. >> Don't even worry about that blunt wrap. Just go give us your ID. Okay. >> That's not a driver's license. We We don't need a military ID. >> So, you need this? >> Yeah. >> Go ahead. What else you need? >> Here you go. Sending the squad. 422 eastbound just before Harbor. >> The car caught fire. >> There's going to be two kids in the back, one in the middle, back right. Uh, female passenger, adult in the rear left. >> Officers rushed to rescue the passengers while Tomkins seemed oblivious to the chaos he caused. Hey, his hands. >> HEY, MAN.
