I don't understand >> why I'm in handcuffs. >> I am being detained for sneezing. >> Hey, Ch, watch your knees real quick. >> This is unbelievable. >> Being an employee is hard enough when you have to deal with rude customers. But how bad does it get when those customers become so deranged that police have to step in? >> More and more infuriated, more verbally towards us, cussing, screaming, things like that. Let's go. >> Nope. You're staying here. >> You're staying here. >> God damn. Oh, >> let me go. >> Here are moments when cops have had to rescue employees from deranged customers. Starting with the case where a couple turned a billing dispute into a showdown. >> Okay. They've already asked you to leave. They've already asked you to leave. So, you are trespassing. No, you're going in. Don't you touch him. >> On November the 4th, 2024, a hotel in Florida became the stage for a showdown that had nothing to do with room service and everything to do with a couple who thought they knew the law better than the cops sent in to help them get off the premises. >> Hello. >> We could step out. We have a privacy right here. >> Now, I know you were coming to talk about hospital. >> Okay. So, tell me what's going on. >> Okay. So, I'm going to show you since she showed you her paperwork. >> Okay. >> All right. I was charged here 10428. Right. >> One night. I was charged here twice. We stayed two nights. They charged me three times. >> Okay. and I just want my money back. >> Okay. Have you disputed it with your >> I don't need to dispute it with the bank because >> they took the money. My bank didn't take the money. They took it from me. But she didn't take it. We've got the proof that they did. And then the lady started getting that attitude with me and I told her, "No, I want to speak to your boss." She told me her boss is in California. Well, I don't give a about that. She's still your boss and she needs to do her job because if you're not going to get hold of somebody, then I'll call somebody else. Well, I'm calling the cops. You call him. I'm not going to run cuz I ain't done nothing wrong. >> Got it. >> And we can review the cameras where her boss standing right there behind the had to tell her to stop >> and be quiet because she was causing the issue. >> All right. So, at this point, they've got one that shows was declined, right? Was taken out at this point. >> It's it's going it's going to be between >> there were four charges. One got declined because the guy put in the wrong number. >> Okay. >> Over the phone, >> right? The lady here called me and then we char we put it on his card instead of my card. The first charge was under >> my card. >> Okay. Right. The one that got declined. >> Okay. And then the rest of the charges went to his card under >> Okay. >> So So all all three charges that were taken out are under his card. So when it was declined. Yeah. I can prove >> she showed me three but one said of pre-authorization. You know how they kind of hold the bill away and we waited. We waited >> and we were like, "Okay." So this morning they actually took it. >> It was posted. Exactly. >> And now my bank account's in the negative. So I have a huge problem. And it ain't a call a corporate type problem. It's a fix it problem. >> Okay. And now the money that I had >> and then she and then they give us this problem, guys. Then they give us this problem because I demanded to speak to her boss. >> No. Okay. All right. Now >> there's more cops here for life situation. >> Give your license or anything. my ID. >> Okay. They've already asked you to leave. They've already asked you to leave. So, you are trespassing ID, sir. They've already asked you to leave. >> Then I will leave. >> No, they you're already you're still here. >> No, I they have to ask you if you've been trespassed already. I need your driver's license. >> No, you're not getting my >> I'm going to ask you. >> I have NOT BROKEN THE LAW. YOU ARE NOT GETTING MY LICENSE. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. >> What are you talking about resisting, man? Are you kidding me? >> Resisting what? >> Resisting what? >> I told you I would leave if you were asking me to leave, sir. Exactly. Exactly what I just said. I just said that she asked if she asked you to leave. >> And you have no right to do this. >> If she asked you to leave, >> by the way, guys, we've already been through this with your department. You have no right to touch me, check my ID, or anything. I ask you if you were asking me to leave, you would not answer me, sir. >> You've already been asked to leave. >> Well, then I told No, by who? >> By them. >> I don't care about them. I asked you. >> I asked you directly. If I was being asked to leave, you would not answer me. Then you grabbed me and put me in handcuffs. No, sir. It's not trespass at the warning. I was never asked to leave. We were standing here having a conversation. Ma'am, >> you're going to deny that? >> Pull the CAMERAS OUT. >> DO YOU have your driver's license? >> You're going to deny that? >> Can I have it? >> No. >> You're going to go in handcuffs as well, ma'am. >> WELL, CAN I WALK OUT TO THE ROPE? >> You've already been asked to leave. >> Okay. while I'm leaving. Don't touch me. >> You're going in here. >> Don't you touch her. >> Wa wa. WHAT THE >> Stop being dramatic, MA'AM. >> Behind your back. >> Are you serious? >> Are you serious? >> I don't have nothing else TO SAY TO YOU. >> I don't care what you got to say. I have nothing else to say to you. What they're doing right now is illegal, man. They claimed the hotel had overcharged them, screaming about theft. But the records told another story. What they called theft was nothing more than a declined payment. Usually the thing to do was to take it up with their bank. But from the look of things, they were most likely going to turn the lobby into a battleground. >> Getting very >> because they're saying we charged him for three nights. >> Okay. >> We only charged him for two nights. There is no way in our system to charge without it being attached to a folio. >> Okay. screaming, yelling. Won't the owner don't want to leave? >> Okay. Are they current guests? >> No, they checked out. >> Okay. All right. >> And they're saying they were going to call the cops because we called on them. We did not. I can show you early. >> Okay. All right. Okay. >> I don't know if you want to go. >> Yeah. So, they stayed the last two nights. >> No, they were here Friday night, Saturday night. Checked out Sunday morning. >> Okay. Hold on. Let me show you. >> So, see in our computer system, when you rent a card, it goes directly into our system. One, two. >> Okay. Here's the first one. >> Mhm. >> Here's the second one. >> Okay. >> This one was declined. This is their printout. Shows the declined and the two sales. These two are mimicking because this is a >> right. Got it. >> Authorization. >> And then we capture their card when they come in and hand our cards. >> Okay. >> I'm not going to hand them screams. >> Okay. >> What's going on with them? >> They're just really aggressive. They're saying that we triple charge them when they stay two nights. You're saying we charge them for three nights. There is no possible way for us to do that with our system. >> Okay. But you have asked them to leave already. >> And I said I said we can't. >> Do you want them trespassed? >> Um well let me let me make sure that they understand that we didn't charge them. Yes, I do. >> We were trying to explain to them and they just got hostile. So, you told them uh two between two to three times to leave. >> I asked them to leave and asked well first I asked them to settle down and I said I'm going to get the paperwork from uh our night audit which uses the transactions for the date. >> I tried to explain to them and they didn't want they did not want me explain to them. They said all she said was you'll see her she showed me her bank account. I didn't even look at it but she turned the phone around and she said I had three entries here and I said well one is pending and I said one will fall off. I said in um most institutions they'll fall off between 7 to 10 business days. We have no control over that. But they were they were adamant that we stole money from them and that we were going to give it to them. They were not leaving and they wanted to speak to the manager. Um but I did ask them to leave. >> They swore they weren't going anywhere without their money. Yet the second those cuffs locked in, the tough talk started to melt into excuses. It wasn't about stolen charges anymore. It was about rights, amendments, and laws. They clearly did not understand. >> All right. >> Ask you to leave. >> I asked him if you asked us to leave and he would not answer me. And then he put me in handcuffs for no reason. >> Well, you're being detained right now. >> No, there ain't no detain. I'm in handcuffs. That means I'm going to jail. Let's go. >> You're being detained. >> I'm in handcuffs. That means I'm going to jail. I was not being violent. I was not doing anything. There's cameras on here. >> No, I'm not being detained. You taking me to jail today? >> I'm not taking you to jail. >> No, I'm going to jail. >> You want to go to jail? I'm in handcuffs. I want to go to jail. Yeah, I'll put the name. >> No, she not. >> Hey, don't baby. Don't talk to her. She's nobody. >> Oh, you put me in handcuffs cuz I was standing here talking to you. Who do you think you are? >> I'm Deputy Villhard with the Santa Rosa County. >> Yeah. And I'll be talking to IA and your boss. >> Well, you don't talk to IA. >> You might. Yeah, you do. Yeah, you do. That's where the formal complaint goes, you know, not when you call and I want to talk to your sergeant type. Yeah. No, I know. We were standing here having a nice peaceful conversation about there was no reason for anybody to put hands on anybody. >> Deputy Rob is asking asked for my ID and got pissed off cuz I wouldn't >> No, you refused to twice. >> Exactly. And I don't have to give you my ID, bro. I have not broken the law. What law did I break? >> Cuz I want you trespass. >> That is not a law. That is not a criminal offense. No, it is not. It is a civil infront. No. >> All right. You know the law better than I do. >> I asked him repeatedly if I was being asked to leave, I would leave. He refused. He did not give my ID. Yeah, I wouldn't give it to him. So, y'all put me in cuffs. Now, we'll talk to No. When you put somebody in handcuffs, man, that means they're going to jail. Yeah. Okay. Go ahead and make some up cuz I ain't done nothing wrong, man. I ain't done thing wrong, dude. You know what? I know you know it. That's why you being quiet, man. Cuz you know what? Nobody yelling. Wasn't nobody cussing. Ain't nobody been out outr unruly anything. >> You're going to jail as well. Go ahead and stand up for me. Hold on. I have a bad ankle. >> Okay, >> got it. >> All right, >> Josh. Do you know babe? Babe, do you know mom's phone number? >> Yeah, I got you. >> That and that right there. Her little little incident right there. I don't know if she totally she herself around. >> Yeah, right. Nobody's done anything here, man. We just >> Dude, he just asked you for your ID. It was >> He doesn't have a right to ask you for my ID. I did not bring Dude, I did not break the law, bro. >> It takes a criminal offense for you to ID me. That is the law. That is not only the law. That is your policy. I said, "No, sir. If I'm being asked to leave, I will leave." And then I was thrown in here. >> They stole money from me out of my kids' house. That was my grocery money. >> I understand that, but that's a that is a civil issue, but you make it a criminal issue when they've told you to leave and you're >> She TOLD ME TO STAY. SHE SAID, "NO, hold on. Let me go pull up this paperwork." Yes, she did. Pull up the cameras. She said, "Go back there and pull up the paper." Okay. Well, there is cameras. >> Okay. >> So, she lied to you and I'm going to jail because she lied to you. >> You're going to jail because she told you guys to leave. And your is if that's your husband or boyfriend, he's already admitted to it as well. So >> So right now, like I said, you're being detained. >> Well, when you put somebody in handcuffs, that means they've broken the law. >> They come off just as easy as they go on. >> Yeah, I know they do. But they're not supposed to go on unless I've broken the law. >> No, >> I am not a I'm not a criminal. I haven't done anything, man. Haven't broken the law. Was standing here giving you our side of the story and then I was thrown in cuss because I refused to ID. You can't ID somebody unless they break the law. That is the law. That [ __ ] grab her, too. For what? >> I didn't grab her. >> I know you didn't, man. But you standing here holding me and I got handcuffs on for no reason, bro. >> The man continued to rant about rights, amendments, and laws, convinced he was the smartest person in the room. But the truth was simple. He had been told to leave but refused. And no amount of legal jargon or fake confidence was going to undo the fact that his next stop wasn't going to be the nice and warm comforts of his home. >> Nobody's broken the law here, man. This is the problem people have right here violating my rights. You think I don't know my rights? >> You're an expert. >> No, I am. I'm an expert on the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth amendment rights. to my rights are that you cannot ID me unless I broke the law. >> Good. All righty. Come and have a seat back here. >> I don't know where I'm going. >> Oh, we're going this morning. And nobody should be going to jail. Nobody's broken the law. Nobody was causing a problem for you guys, ma'am. Was I? Nobody here was causing a problem for you guys. Listen, >> but because I refuse to give my ID and I'm going in handcuffs now. >> Let's talk about trespass after warning. Okay. It doesn't have to be officer. It doesn't have to be us. It doesn't have to be us. The representative of the property has asked you to leave and you refused to leave. That is trust. >> We were standing here talking to you though. You understand that? >> I do understand. Were you expecting me to just leave prior to me getting here? >> Ma'am, >> I'm asking you. >> All right. >> I told the officer if I was being trespass, I would leave. >> You don't want to talk. We're not talking. Instead, you guys threw handcuffs on us because we refused to ID. Without a law being broken, you rightfully do not. >> I just explained to you the trespass law. Trespass warning. I just explained that to you. They asked you multiple times. >> You can you can say whatever. So, that is the law. >> I asked you multiple times. If you're asking me to leave, I'll leave. It doesn't have to be us. That's what I'm That's what you're missing. >> Representative of the property asked you to leave multiple times. That's why we were called. >> That's why they call. >> So, I'm going to jail because after you and me had stood out here and had a peaceful conversation, I get to go to jail, right? >> I gave you guys the the courtesy of standing here and talking to you guys about things and trying to figure it out. And when I when when you tried to ID me, I said, "No, sir, I'm not broken a crime or I'm not committed a crime. If you want us to leave, we will leave." Then you threw me an air couple months. It's coming from >> Okay, I understand all that. I said multiple times. If you guys are asking us to leave, >> but they as >> I said that multiple times and you did not you did not >> and he asked you for your identification multiple times after being asked by the owner of the property to leave. >> They if you are here still on the property when I get here and they've already asked you to leave, that is trespass after war. >> I totally understand that. We were standing here having fun. I would stand here respectfully instead of just leaving and not waiting on you guys. I stayed here to talk to you just so you guys knew we weren't here causing a problem. We weren't we were just like, "No, call call your boss or somebody because this is wrong." >> While we're here, >> failure to ID. >> Yes. >> What law is that? >> You're on the property that they asked you to leave. I'm uh Yes. It's 810 A10.11 if you want to look at it. >> The law and I did not if I'm being asked. >> That's trespass on structure structure or conveyance. >> I told you guys I would leave, man. She did too. And you threw us in handcuffs anyway because we wouldn't ID. >> Yeah, exactly. >> We don't have passing is not Look, that's that's civil, bro. And you know it as well as I do. >> And we told you we would leave. >> Soon the tough talk melted into tears, but it was too late. No amount of crying, no desperate, please could stop where this road was leading. >> Ridiculous. >> Dude, we were as cool with you asking you if you want us to leave, we'll just leave. Man, it wasn't about the ID thing. I would have gave you my name. You had my name. I was showing you everything we got. >> Let your left leg up. >> All I'm saying is this is ridiculous, guys. Are y'all kidding me, man? >> Dude, it was ridiculous. That's why we're trying to help you out. >> I was standing there speaking to you, though. I wasn't. >> Yes. But then as soon as Hey, hey, as soon as Deputy Robbins asked you, you started getting super animated and looking like you're going to take off. >> If I was going to take off, I would have left before you guys got here, man. I stayed here and waited on you because somebody >> Do you really think like Do you really think this is what we wanted to do? No, I don't think this is what you wanted to do. >> We really didn't want to kick you while you're down. >> What I wanted to do either, man. You wanted us to leave. I would >> Right. And that's what I'm saying, sir. We're trying to figure out to to get your money back to see what was going on. And all he was going to do was issue a simple trespass warrant, which is a piece of paper. That was it, man. But you made it a lot more by refusing to provide identification when he asked you. >> When I get asked for ID by law enforcement, it makes me feel like I've broken the law. And give you a trespass warning. We don't know who you are. >> Right. >> It's just going to say unknown white male with you. >> I understand that part. So we need to so we can issue that war. But that was my whole thing. My whole thing was if I'm being trespassed, I'll leave. You don't need my ID. You don't need nothing if I'm leaving. Right. I'm gone. No more issue a trespass warning because >> they didn't warn. They didn't ask, sir. >> Well, on on her on her sworn statement, she says that she asked you to leave. So you So you have the right to fight. >> She told you. I'm telling you to. >> And I understand that. My word should hold just as much credit as hers does right now. >> But when she says you're extremely animated and yelling and we get here and I walk up and you're yelling at the other deputies. >> Sorry, man. Can I sit down, bro? This foot. >> Let me Can he Can he sit down somewhere >> in this one? This side? >> Sorry. I just got to get off this foot. >> You're good, man. You can slide it. Hey, man. Are all the cards in your wallet in both of y'all's names? They're not in anybody else's names. As long as they're not in somebody else's name, we're fine. That's all I'm worried about. No, because because it because at jail they they won't I'm I'm telling you at jail if they don't have your name on it, they won't >> to jail, man. >> We've been through this. >> I don't What kind of >> It should be pretty low, man. I Well, we don't have any money because they just don't do we're negative in the bank because the money came up here, bro. We don't have any money. >> Is there somebody we can call for the kids? >> No, man. There's nobody but us. >> There's nobody for the kids. >> I got to go to jail like criminals. But me and I, bro, we didn't do it. We didn't do anything wrong. It's less than 11 years of my life trying to stay out of these handcuffs and doing the best I could to be a law-abided citizen, a productive citizen, a part of this community that cares about this community. And now I'm being treated like a criminal man. I didn't do anything. Even in the back of the patrol car, he carried on like a self-appointed law professor, lecturing the officers as if he knew the codes better than the people wearing the badge. But no amount of self-taught legal expertise was going to rewrite his reality. >> You know, you're breaking the law right now, officer. >> Why? By doing five over the speed limit. There's >> no seat belt. >> That's not the law. You think you know everything is the issue, sir. That's That's your problem. Your problem. Your problem is that you keep thinking you know the law better than I do. I've been doing this a long time. You don't >> ID. >> You don't. No, it's not, sir. It's not a stop and ID state. >> Just mad cuz you got told no one. You're not that you're in there. >> You're the one going to jail, bro. Not me. >> You're the one going to jail, not me. >> Okay. And we'll have our day in court. >> You will. Absolutely. >> You see your attitude? You see your attitude? You see how you got that guilty? >> I don't have a guilty There's no guilty attitude, sir. >> That's why we're scared at the cop. >> There's no guilty attitude. >> 177. But I appreciate you not listening to our side of the story now. >> So, is it you that sets the bond now or is it the jail? >> The jail. >> The couple were later charged with resisting arrest and criminal trespassing. The next case is a case of a frustrated customer who turned a simple return into something far more disturbing. >> I said, "Is this about Walmart?" Really? Because I sneezed. I don't understand why I'm in handcuffs. >> I am being detained for sneezing. Hey, Chad. Watch your knees real quick. >> This is unbelievable. >> Watch your knees. Watch your head. >> On May the 3rd, 2024, police were dispatched to a Walmart in Florida after a 911 call came in just after 700 p.m. What seems like a routine customer dispute quickly spiraled into something much darker. A man later identified as Channing Cooks was furious after being denied a refund for baby formula without a receipt. But instead of walking away, Cooks made a move that stunned both employees and police. Later watching the footage, he lunged toward a store worker, then bolted for the exit. His excuse, he claimed he only sneezed. But surveillance footage was going to tell a different story. >> What's going on, buddy? Go ahead and shut the car off for me. >> Do me a favor, step out. Can I step out? Do you have anything on you that poke me, stick me, cut me, or hurt me? >> No, sir. Can I Can I >> Can I put you in hand? >> Can I find out what it's for? >> Absolutely. Give me this minute, please. You're just being you're just you're just being detained. Just relax. >> I shouldn't be being detained. >> All right. Sit back. Sit back. >> I should be Is this about Walmart? Really? >> Because I sneezed. I'm not against the law to sneeze. She was in my personal space. So I don't I don't I don't I'm not understanding. >> Okay. Oh yeah. Because all I did was sneeze. She was in my personal space. That's not >> Okay. Be detained. Don't be detained. >> Just detang. >> Do you understand these right? >> No, I do not. I do not understand. >> Okay. What part do you not understand the rights? Why am I being detained in handcuffs? >> I I would love to explain that, but I need to make sure you understand your rights first. >> So, do you understand the rights that I just read you? >> So, I'm not under arrest. >> You are not under arrest right now. You are being detained. You are not free to leave. We are conducting a criminal investigation. >> That is why I read you your rights. Do you understand the rights that I just read you? >> Somewhat. >> Okay. What part do you not understand? >> How can I elaborate so that you can understand your rights better? >> You're saying I have the right basically I'm under arrest. >> No, you're not. You are not freely. >> So, this is not under arrest. No, >> you there's a criminal investigation that we're conducting. Okay. You are not free to leave. >> Excuse me. I'm sorry. >> I will get to that. However, >> they're trying to follow what make it criminal because this is my space. Sir, I literally sneezed. >> Sir, I'm speaking to you. Can you please speak to me? They They have no clue what's going on. I'm the one conducting helping. Yes, you are in handcuffs. You are not free to leave. >> What did I do? Can you tell me what I did to be in handcuffs? >> Once you tell me how I can further explain your rights to you so that you can understand, we will go into that. Until then, we are going to sit here and talk about your rights. Do you understand that? >> What I don't understand. >> What do you not understand? >> How I got the right to remain silent if you telling me that I got to talk to you about this and I'm scared. That's what I don't understand. >> Your rights are telling you you can speak to me or you you don't have to speak to me. However, I'm conducting a criminal investigation. >> Okay. Well, at this moment, I'm not comfortable. So, can you tell me >> what are you not comfortable with? >> I don't understand. >> What don't you understand? >> Why I'm in handcuffs? You're in handcuffs because we are not under handcuffed. >> You are detained. >> Why am I being detained? >> Because she's conducting a criminal investigation. >> Yes, sir. >> Sorry. Let Hold on. She's trying to explain >> I clearly cannot explain it. So, someone else needs to. >> She's trying to explain your rights to you. Okay. She's telling you you can either talk to her or not talk to her, but this is part of the investigation. You don't have to talk to her, but until we figure out what's going on with the entire investigation, this is the way it's got to be. >> Yes. But this so far is >> Okay. So, okay. I understand. I understand. >> So, do you understand the rights that I read you? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Would you like me to read your rights to you one more time just to make sure? Okay. So, you understand your rights? >> Yes, ma'am. >> From the moment officers tried to read Miranda rights to him, it was clear they were about to deal with a difficult person. He claimed his actions were unintentional, but experience told the officers there was always another side to the story. And in this case, the other side would change everything. >> What happened today? >> Literally, I went to go do a return. >> Okay. >> Something that I bought at at ma'am. >> A return of what? >> Of baby formula. Okay. See, I got children in the car. >> Okay. >> I went to go do a return. I literally just walked through the the the line with the stuff. So, the young >> Do you remember what line? >> Yes. Line number four. They they confirmed that. It's just the fact that I didn't have the receipt. I lost the receipt some kind of way. But I don't think she gave it to me from point A to point B. And the lady was like, "Well, you can't return it. You know, you got to have a receipt." So, another young lady went to go verify that I had to return. So, it was all good. And then the manager came from the back and was like, "Listen, it's the policy. Without a receipt, you can't return it or what, whatever." Okay, that was fine. >> And you're still in lane four? >> No, ma'am. No, ma'am. I'm out of lane four now. I'm I'm at the return. >> Okay. Okay. I'm attorney up front. And there's a lady sitting there talking to me. It wasn't the one. I wasn't upset. I wasn't in anything. She did say I'm raising my voice at first, but I literally sneezed. The fact that I didn't cover my mouth, that's not on me. And I always do this. When I sneeze, I sneeze like this. >> Were you Were you guys in the like counter? >> She was like literally right in front of me. She was like right here. And she grabbed my shirt. She grabbed me. She she she she hit me in the chest on camera and grabbed my shirt. So if anything, I should be the one pressing charges. I did not intentionally sneeze on So when So when that part happened, were you was she behind the counter? Was >> No, no, no. She was next to me talking. It was fine. >> Okay. So >> we was like right in front of each other. We was talking. There was no no ill will. There was no hate, anything like that. So I'm not understanding how it go from zero to a thousand so fast because it wasn't anything like that. >> Hey, did you call? >> Yes, I got sling at the face. All right. Um, so what happened? >> So I'm sorry call. He was just asking for return of baby formula. Hello. >> Yeah, my I'm with the deputy right now. No. All right. Thank you. >> So, he was just asking for a return on the formula. We can't give a return without a receipt. So, he smelling and then he spits in my face because we can't give him a return. >> So, I pushed him away from me because he's spitting in my face and then he continued to spit in my face. >> Do you have any footage of >> He's going right now. >> Okay. And then do you want to push for charges? Absolutely. Okay. >> Yeah. Oh, no. I'm definitely >> Did he make any threats or anything >> other than just the spitting? >> What did he say? >> He said he was going to beat my >> Okay. Anything else? >> That was it. >> Cook spoke with the confidence of a man who strongly believed that his version of events was the only truth that mattered. But as he defended himself with that unwavering tone, officers couldn't ignore the cracks showing through his story. Because while he wanted everyone to believe it was just a sneeze, the evidence was telling something entirely different. >> I had no idea that she was even trying to call the police. That's crazy. I don't want told her that, hey, look, I can press charges because you literally just slapped me in my chest and it stung like a ras slap. It stung and she grabbed by my by my shirt. I told like, listen, I didn't try to sneeze on sneeze on you um on purpose. This that's that's an applied assumption. I mean, due to the fact that you even heard me sneeze, I don't even think it should have escalated to this much, cuz that's an implied assumption. I didn't spit on you. I literally sneezed. I sneezed. I sneezed three times. I sneezed twice. The second one came a little bit. The third one came a little bit delayed. So, I even gave her the courtesy of turned around. And this time, even though I was talking to her about, hey, I can I can press charges for this. In the middle of that, I still sneezed. But this time, I turned around. So, I mean, that's on camera. Cut and dry. I didn't I still didn't cuss her out. Like listen, how could you be so upset with an applied assumption? No, my sometime my mom got a problem with the way I sneeze. I'm not I don't sneeze in my hands. I don't I sneeze. I cover it up, but I I that's the best you're going to get from me. You know, it was it was nothing. It was nothing at all. And she bloated completely out of proportion. And it's an implied assumption that what I did was intentional. I can see if I didn't sneeze, honey, but you know, I sneezed. You know, I sneezed. But I'm pretty sure she didn't say, "Hey, our guy sneezed around me." I'm pretty sure she probably said, "Hey, this guy just spit in my face." And that's not how it went at all. Point blank. Period. >> All right, Jenny. This is what's going to happen. We're going to move you over to my car so we can cut some of these deputies loose and then I'll let you know what's going on. Right. >> Okay. >> The moment officers told him he was under arrest for battery. His reaction was pure denial. He repeated his story with absolute confidence, as if saying it louder or longer could somehow erase what the cameras had already caught. So Calvin, here's the thing. >> You are being placed under arrest for battery. >> So I'm being placed under arrest for battery. >> What's in this pocket? >> For battery for what, sir? >> What's in this pocket? >> ID. My grandma. >> Battery for what? Go ahead. Battery for what? >> So is she under arrest for battery? >> She is not. But you will have the opportunity to argue any charges against her. So where where's the battery, though? >> Let me finish. >> I understand that. But where's the battery? >> Where's the battery? >> Where's the battery? I'm I'm being arrested for sneezing. Flaggler County. Y'all going to make the news, bro. Y'all going to make the news. So, I'm being detained for sneezing in Flaggler County. I sneeze and it's on camera and I'm being detained. >> Y'all going to make the news, though. Y'all going to make the news. Y'all going to make the news. I will have your badge. I will have your badge. Believe that. >> Thank you. All right. >> I want to do more. >> Okay. >> I'm being detained for sneezing. >> Can I explain this for you? Can I explain? >> What is it to explain, sir? >> So, here's the thing. from whatever happened over there, whether you sneeze, whether you span on her, it did end up on her. So, she wants to press charges. >> Sir, sir, sir, she was in my personal space. If you sneeze right now, right now, even if you try to cover your face and you get my personal space, it's going to get on me. >> Can I explain the rest of this process for you? I >> honest to God, I'm not lying. I just felt a piece of spit come over your teeth talking to me just now. >> Channing, >> that's crazy. >> So, did you just spit on me? >> Channing, if you want to press charges on her, you will have your >> Sir, that's not the point. That's not the point. I'm going to jail for battery and there is no battery. You mean to tell me y'all have a camera? I sneezed. I literally sneezed. >> Would you have that footage on camera? >> Okay. And I sneezed. So why am I going to jail for sneezing? >> Real quick, do you want anything going with her? >> Yeah, she can take this. >> Is it the the cars in the house? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, we we can get that. >> I am being detained for sneezing. >> Hey, watch your knees real quick. >> This is unbelievable. >> Watch your knees. Watch your head. While at the back of the police van, his denial turned into rage. What followed wasn't just a rant. It was an unhinged outburst. By this point, it wasn't just about a sneeze. His own mouth had become its worst enemy with every second of it caught on camera. >> You have no right taking me to jail for sneezing. Talking about it did get on her. It was a full-blown character assassination aimed at the officer. >> What give what kind of job I got? A man never really talk like that about my people. You a with no us. Get mad at me cuz you've been stuffed in your lockers for the rest of your life, little confirm that >> my too small, so I'm upset. >> By the end, his fire had burned out, replaced by regrets. For some, it might have sounded like a genuine apology, but beneath the surface, it was pure desperation. His final hope of escaping the one destination he could not avoid, jail. A reveal of what he did for a living even made it more shocking. >> Man, I'm upset. That ain't got nothing to do with you. And I'm convicted. I'm I'm I'm big time convicted. Like, my conscience and and and God is eating me up. I don't know your family and I apologize for anything I said about them. >> I I shouldn't even did none of that, man. I'm convicted. As you can see, my children are Spanish. I just hurt people hurt people, man. >> Channing Cooks was ultimately charged with battery and because of prior offenses on his record, the charge was elevated to a felony. Cook's outburst was outrageous, but he wasn't the only one to turn a refund dispute into chaos. >> And I asked for a refund. >> Okay, I hear you. I heard you. You've heard me all three times. I told >> And I heard you every time you th >> The person who was in charge, >> let's go. >> You want to get tased? >> Get the >> On the 26th of May 2024, a Starbucks call that was supposedly about lattes and Frappuccinos turned into something else entirely. Officers were dispatched to deal with a furious customer who thought the best way to get a refund was to hold the entire store hostage with a wild and unhinged tantrum. >> Oh, I'm on the phone for a refund. >> That's okay. >> And I would like my refund. >> Well, I can't give you a refund. >> Oh, yes, they can. They already have. >> Give me my refund cuz I never had a problem. >> I like I understand that's actually have the issues with them like just like hotels and stuff, but we can't force people. paid my money and I would like my refund and I'm asking you nicely and I'm telling you right now >> but I'm on the phone with corporate you but they want you to leave. So this is what can happen. This is what can happen. >> Okay. >> All I got to do is I'm going to go out there and citation and then when you leave and you're going to get arrested. >> You're not going. Yes. >> You're going to give me a refund nicely because I asked for one and you're see I don't have it. >> Don't have it. I'm telling you right now. So now you're if you're not leaving and you refuse to leave and they're telling you your trespass if I don't have enough restraining order, sweetheart. >> Look, I'm not You have to go. All right. Don't make this bad to where you have to get two different tickets and rest. >> They want you to leave. Call corporate. >> I'm on the phone with corporate. >> I got you. But you got to go >> after they give me my refund. I'm sitting right here and you're sitting right here. Why can't you just get my refund? >> Because this is a civil matter. >> I need my refund. You're not getting a refund from us. We can't do that. You have to get it from corporate. >> No, I can get it from them. I never had a problem here. I've been coming for 3 years. >> See if she She doesn't want to identify. She doesn't want to leave. See if they got a name like on a card she used or something. >> Yes, sir. >> All right. You still have to go out here. >> You can get your hand on my face. >> All right. All right. So, listen up. So, here's the deal. When the manager comes out and says you got to go, I'd really like your leave. If you don't want to leave, we're going to arrest you. >> Can you please get out of my face? >> Well, I'm just telling you what your options are. >> And I asked for a refund. >> Okay, I hear you. I heard you. You've heard me all three times. I told you >> and I heard you every time you told me. >> Soon as the manager comes and we're going to arrest you if you don't leave. You got about you got about a minute. >> Say she wants her gone. >> Oh, you can stand right here. You not going to do anything. >> What's going on today? >> I already explained it to him and he got rid of me and that's all going to happen. >> I just got here. I don't know what's going on >> because the lady I asked for a refund. They said that I'm trespassing. I ain't What am I trespassing? I already talked to corporate and they literally said that's not called trespassing. I don't have a refund. >> All right. So, have you ever been trespassed up here before? Correct. I've been here coming here for almost 3 years and I ain't never had a problem until I got >> Okay. So, why were you asking for a refund? >> Because they didn't give me my order, but then she got ruled with me in the driveway. >> Okay. >> And I could just say, "Can I get a refund?" She would not give me a refund. So, I came inside and asked for a refund and she still wouldn't give me a refund. Then, she walked to the back and walked out. >> All right. So, what what did you order? >> This drink. Clearly haven't touched it. >> Okay. >> And um some chocolate chip cookies or something. Did you get the cookies? >> They're in the truck. >> They're in the truck. So, you got everything you paid for? >> I just want to tell you 100% they might want to do this for the last trip. >> I'm talking to him now. >> I got you. You're going to leave or you're getting arrested? >> I'm not talking. >> So, so here here's the deal. >> Mhm. >> They they don't want you on the property anymore. >> Where's the lady that says she don't want me on the property? >> The manager said >> they told me to get her name, too. >> Okay. So, >> when you >> So, hold on a second. Let me let me explain it. >> That's fine. with management not wanting you on the property, >> they have the right to ask you to leave and also at that point at that point in time told me to get the name. So I can know who it was. They sat there and hadn't called you guys. >> So let's slow down a little bit. >> Okay. >> Whenever management asks someone to leave, it does become trespassing. >> She's not a manager though. >> Anyone Anyone who is an employee here has the right to ask you. >> Trust their manager and she's not a manager. So what is her name? And then I will I already talked to corporate. and they said her name. You're constantly getting in my face and I don't want to talk about I don't want to talk about I don't want to talk to her. I'm not going to >> I asked you now. Can you please give me her name? So I can leave. I will leave after I get her name so I can let Corporate know. You can stop looking. I'm talking to him. He's been more calm than you have been. Please leave me alone. >> Anyways, can you please get her name? >> I can try to get her name. However, I cannot force her to give me give me her name. So that's that's crazy because you can force me to leave >> because at this point you are trespassing because we've warned you to leave the property. >> Anyways, she usually don't give me her name. >> Let me see if I can grab her name real quick. >> Mhm. Thank you. >> At first she claimed a name was all it would take to make her leave. But the moment she got one, it only fueled her anger. And the only thing she thought to do was to turn her coffee into a weapon. And this time she won't be walking out with a name and a refund. >> Now I need to step away from >> I'm not doing anywhere. >> You can step away. Look, I don't know why you think you can tell me what to do. Like this. >> You're the one who's You're the one who's not going. >> Look, I tried to nicely get you to leave. You don't want to listen. I'm telling you what. I'm not going anywhere. In fact, if he doesn't get the name, you don't leave. You are getting arrested and you're going to jail. That's what's going to happen to you. >> We'll see. >> Okay. We'll see if you don't leave. >> You got till he gets back >> and you can get out of my face. >> It's not happening. >> It is. You're still in my face. >> I'm not going anywhere. >> Neither am I. >> You're so cute, though. You're just so adorable. >> My face go. >> That's not the manager right there. So >> he doesn't have to give your manager phone. Are we keep telling you everything? You're the one who want listen. >> No, he said he's going to get the manager name. >> Hey, I do want to let you know that she even though she refuses, she doesn't have a kid in her too. Probably 10, eight. Her her name is and that >> Her name is That was not the manager that came. She just came. >> She is the one who was in charge. >> She was not here though. You're lying and so are they. >> I'm not lying. It's all in body. >> That is not her name. You can look on the camera and see that was not her name. >> All right. So So here here's the deal. I provided you with the person who is in charge. >> Let's go. >> Nope. You're staying here. >> You're staying here. You talk right now. >> Let me go. >> Give me your hand. I am Grab me. >> My hair. >> Get off me. >> You want to get tased? >> Get the official now. Chris, >> come and get my phone. Come and get my phone. >> Stay back there right now. >> She got to get my phone. >> I don't care. Shut up. >> You shut up. >> Call your dad. >> 135 custody. >> CALL YOUR DAD. >> HURRY UP. >> That's yours. >> Tell him to hurry up. Get off me so I can get up. Dumb ass. >> GET OFF MY BED. YOU JUSTING LEAN ON ME TO GET UP. >> Stay down right now. >> Get off of me. >> And I said I CAN'T BREATHE. GET OFF ME. >> So you're ready to get up. You're >> I just said let me up. >> Sit up. >> Flat on the ground. She still thought her words could win the fight. But no rant, no excuse, and no phone call was going to change where this was headed. >> Get up. I can't wait for you mother to get fired from God. Get the away from me until I calm down right now. >> Come here and come grab my phone. >> We'll wait. >> Hey. Um, can you come grab my phone so I can call a friend? Come here so Eric can come and get you here. Come and get my phone so I can get you the damn number. Come and get my phone. I will give it to her. Please don't touch me. >> Can you please come and get my phone? >> What's your name? >> She'll tell you. She'll know when you call. Get out OF MYING WAY. HURRY UP AND CALL LIST. Please come and get me and my kids if you don't GET AWAY FROM MY >> I can do what I want right now. You were under arrest >> and I'm trying to >> do you understand me? You're under arrest. >> I said >> I've been nice with you this whole time. >> Yeah, and you got rude when he came out. I'm at Starbucks in Oak and they THREW ME ON THE GROUND. >> Mine are completely torn to pieces. So >> hurry up and get up here right now. >> Just making sure I'm not dripping blood. You didn't care if I would. >> You know, I gave you multiple opportunities. >> No, you didn't. It took two of you to get me on the ground and you threw me on the ground. >> Get the hell OUT OF MY FACE WITH THAT BULL CRAP. >> I'm not in your face. If you want to see in your face, I'll get in your face >> and we going to have a whole contest of you. YOU'LL ARGUE IN MINE. I'M GOING ARGUE RIGHT BACK. >> AWESOME. I've got all day. >> And so do I. Pooky. >> Send me another officer here. You go in the back of that car. >> That's fine, too. But I'm not leaving until my uncle come and get my kids. >> Oh, you're still going in the back of the car. You keep telling us what you're not going to do. >> Quinton, can you hurry and get her name? >> All you really had to do is leave. I don't know why you cause all this trouble. >> Because I asked for a refund. What the hell you >> We don't get We can't make them give you a refund. >> And you couldn't. You sat there and then you lied on the top of the name of the girl NAME AND THAT WASN'T HER NAME. >> Pull the body. Pull my body cam. >> Pull it. >> You can you can as I provided you and I provided you with the name. >> The girl that came to the window was >> Do you want to listen to me? >> Like I said, >> do you want to listen to me? >> I said what I said >> for a third time. Do you want to listen to me? >> OBVIOUSLY NOT. >> THAT TIME I SAID the same thing. >> Obviously not. >> All right. Well, hurry up because they talking about soon >> they talking about soon as another cop car come they taking me and I said I'm not leaving until somebody come get my kids. >> Do you want >> And then he he pressed on my back to get up off the ground. Bro, he literally pressed on my back to get his big off of me. You could have used something else to get your off of me. You going to use my back? >> Officers soon found out something even more shocking. And one would wonder why a mother would risk so much for a cup of coffee. >> So, do you know her? >> No. I was just walking if I saw the baby in a pie. >> Darling, who are you talking to? Are you talking to daddy? >> My big >> Okay. How old is >> How old is your >> I'm trying Look, sweetie. I'm trying to help you. I promise. I just want to make sure somebody can come here and get you. >> Well, uh I just spoke with I guess their grandmother and also there's an aunt and yes, they're supposed to be in the way. The gr the aunt told me she was coming from Granite City, so it'll be a minute. But I said that I would wait. I just cuz there's actually two other children sleeping in the back seat here. So >> they all came in this car. So here's our other problem. She's got >> she's got three kids >> and that's probably >> there's three kids. >> The woman was later charged with aggravated battery on a police officer, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, obstructing identification, and resisting arrest. If a cup of coffee was enough to trigger a meltdown, what came next proved even worse because the next suspect decided words weren't enough. And that choice set off a chain of chaos no one saw coming. >> You want to jump a battery? >> Why? >> You just point somebody at that store. What do you mean why? >> I didn't do nothing, >> dude. They have video. >> No, I did not do >> Okay, that's fine. me. Did >> you get my >> Yeah, he just did. >> On January the 23rd, 2024, a Florida smoke shop became the setting for a meltdown no one saw coming. >> Were you in that guy? >> No. >> He hit us. >> Okay. What happened? >> Uh, they came in, they bought some stuff. They were super drunk. You know, they brought their drinks inside and the guy was being kind of a douche and she kept kind of calming him down. And then he made a comment about her weight. I tried to get them out up here and he said, "You want me to get smacked?" And then punched me in the side of the head. >> I was right here. So, he kind of knocked me into here and then he punched me in the back of the head again. Okay. Do you want to press charges or? >> Yeah. >> It all started with a drunk customer who thought throwing insults wasn't enough. When staff asked him to leave the business premises, instead of walking out, he let his fists do the talking. The victim wanted charges, and the cameras left no room for debate. Do you want to see the video or you want to just forward it and then this is going to be when they come back in after they said >> if you don't leave right now I'm going to have a call with the police and then you will have a problem and you can meet with them. Get your off the table and please >> is that yours? >> No ain't mine. >> Do you have a loss? >> Are you fancy or what are you >> living? Are you living? This one's funny. >> Do you all just walk around and harass people? >> No. >> All right, that's me. >> With the video evidence staring him right in the face, the officers wasted no time tracking the couple down. But when the cuffs came out, denial became the man's only defense. One second, he was pleading innocence. >> Turn around. Turn around. I turn around. [ __ ] off. >> What did I do wrong? Officer, >> you want to jump a battery? >> Why? >> You just punched somebody at that store. What do you mean why? >> I didn't do nothing, >> dude. They have video. >> No, I did not do that. >> Okay, that's fine. >> Hey, seriously. >> Yeah, it is you. >> No, it's not me. Babe, seriously, tell my tell my girl. >> Yes, he just heard me. >> No, don't don't don't >> give me the information. >> I'll give you some money. Seriously, >> I I don't mean money. Okay, >> they want to punch charges. You went over there and you punched a guy. >> Wait, no, I did not punch anybody. >> I saw the video. You want to see the video yourself? >> No, I did not punch anybody. >> He's going to go to jail. We only have one jail here. It's uh >> the Monroe County Detention Center. >> I did not punch him. >> All right, buddy. >> No, seriously. Take me out there with you. >> Huh? >> Do I have to meet you out there? >> No. >> Can you take me with you? >> I did not do that. This is different guy. >> Police station. >> Different guy. >> No. >> No. Do I have to meet you out there then? >> No, you don't have to. Um, >> well, I I'm going to >> Most likely he'll have perseverance tomorrow morning. >> We don't have time. >> In the morning, >> ma'am. He punched somebody. Okay. He committed a crime. >> I did not. >> Okay. You can say that all you want. Okay. I just saw the video myself. I believe you. I believe you. I believe. >> Let me talk. >> Why did you not do that? I saw the video myself, man. >> Okay. Where can I meet you? >> I'm sorry. >> Um, you can go. It's 5501 College Road. >> You have your ID on? >> No, I do not. We're just on vacation, babe. >> I get that. But, dude, you messed up. >> No, I I was drunk. >> Where do you drink? I'm drinking. >> But doesn't make it okay if you punch. >> Can I talk to the guy to not punch nobody? No. 551 call it trail. >> Okay. So take over >> if you want to but he's not going to get out today. >> Why? Why? >> You saying he has no bond. >> Correct. >> Why? Why? What would I do? >> It's not up to me. It's not up to me. >> You write the ticket. >> No. The person wants to press charge. The person got punched. I did not press. >> Then don't go back in there. Okay. They don't want you back in there either. >> Honey. >> Okay. So please. Okay. So they'll get in trouble. Okay. >> Honey. Honey. Okay. Come on. Not about me. I will walk with you. Do you have his ID or he has his ID? >> I don't have an ID. It's in the hotel. >> Can I have Can I have his ID, please? >> It's in the hotel, babe. >> It's in the hotel. >> I know, but let me look. >> What did I do wrong? I already asked him to say he wants to press charges. >> No. No. Seriously, I did not punch nobody. >> He insisted the employee was his friend, as if tossing out an apology would somehow erase what had happened. He tried to act like what happened inside the store was completely out of character, a mistake he normally would never make. But beneath those shaky pleas and hollow apologies wasn't a man seeking forgiveness. It was a ticking time bomb. And he hadn't gone off just yet. >> $500,000. You wanted it. >> Are you trying to bribe me? >> I'm not talking to him. >> One second. Say right there. >> Hey, can I talk to him? Please >> take your stuff off. >> All right. Can I talk to him? Battery and crime against a person. The smoke shop suspect showed just how fast fake apologies could turn into threats. But the next case proved excuses could be just as dangerous. >> Guns in that POLICE DEPARTMENT. >> DONE WITH >> YOU'RE FINISHED. Done with what? >> Everything. >> Get out of the car. >> Who's pressing charges? >> I want to know. Put your hands behind your back. step out of the car and put your HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> Even as the officer closed in, Lewis refused to back down, hiding behind the excuse of being his mother's only caregiver. But beneath the excuses was an attempt to undermine the female officer standing in front of him. An attempt that was about to end the hard way. >> I am THE ONLY CAREGIVER BEHIND your back. >> I am the only caregiver with my mom. >> I'm going to chase you again if you don't stop. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Please, ma'am. Let me go. >> Put your HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> NO. >> Why not? >> Stop. >> Now. Put your hands behind your back. Who's pressing charges? Who's pressing charges? >> I want to know. No, you got to tell. >> I want to come on. It's your fault. >> It's your fault. >> You remember I talked to you the other day. You good? Relax. Okay. >> Well, you know my mom's underc. >> The manager recounted on what had transpired at the dealer shop that quickly escalated. A situation so small you would wonder how it ever came to blows. >> You do me a favor. You just get a quick statement from the manager. Correct. just to get a statement from him on what happened before I got here between them two. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> All right. So, Angela, could you just raise your right hand for me? Do you swear that the statement you're about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? >> All right. >> So, just give me a breakdown what happened from beginning until >> So, the gentleman had an appointment to uh come and get his keys program >> uh to get his keys cut. So, he came to get his keys. >> Yeah. So, she paid the $220 for the two key fobs for like $90 each plus taxes and whatnot. When Natalie, the um service advisor, told him that [ __ ] we have to program the the vehicle and cut the keys and there's additional charge. That's when he went off and that's when all the the yelling after I was in my office and all I know is they kept on getting louder and louder at which point I came here which is probably about a minute or two minutes after and afterwards it just escalated to the mom hitting the sun uh asking him to apologize. Mom had no idea was what was what what got into the sun and then she says get in the car get back inside. And uh literally it was a 20-minute ordeal before they left. And in that time she probably hit me no less than 10 or 15 times. Little repeatedly smacking on us >> with an open hand >> with open hand on his face and everything. Whatever cuts or whatever he may have is not from us. None of our my employees have touched the customer. We all treat them both with respect and we're very patient and along the way. Uh they left 20 minutes later and then 5 minutes after he reappeared and this is what all escalated. When the officer came over here, she asked him to step away. He didn't and he kept on holding to his mom as a shield and then that's where it all went down. She tased him eventually after to tell him repeatedly she was going to do it. So >> and um did did he like grab any of your employees? >> No, but he was very close. We kept talking about he didn't do anything besides saying you know the words and retaliation words and everything calling us names. But that's that that's okay. Okay. A second statement made it clear that Lewis had let his temper take control. And in doing so, he had chosen the absolute worst place to lose it. >> I have to record everything cuz whatever. I just want to hear what you happened earlier from your >> um I came in for his appointment. I literally got two words out and he started going ballistic. So >> what happened? He just started screaming that I was scamming him and that he didn't want to pay the rest and that we already programmed the keys cuz they plugged in with my pod paperwork from the vehicle and then that was I mean that that encounter lasted like 10 seconds and then they got involved and got him outside. >> Okay. >> So he just he literally just went ballistic. >> So he was so ballistic they chose to get him out of the showroom. >> Yeah. I opened up my mouth and he just started screaming. While Lewis did not physically assault the employees, he was charged with resisting arrest, battery on a 65-year-old woman, and disorderly conduct. Lewis at the Chevy dealership thought invoking his mother's health would shield him from the law. But the very next case showed a far more desperate excuse. On the 22nd of June 2023, officers from the Steuart Police Department responded to a call from a local Walmart where a staff member had reported being physically assaulted by a customer. Upon arrival, the officers were met by the shaken victim who was already receiving treatment from EMS on the scene. Before the officers requested footage of the incident from the store, they decided to hear from the victim first. >> If y'all go in the back of the store, so we're just going to bring her in whatnot. >> Okay. >> They're right out there. There's two officers out there. >> Who hit you? >> The girl hit you? >> Yes. Where did she hit you? >> On the side of my face. Look like I thought I could grab brace. So >> that's where were y'all once you got through the change in the morning. I put the money in the I get ready to put the money just bought to me just >> So were you at a certain register? >> Um 22. Okay. >> So come up here right here. So, the person who attacked you, if we determine probable cause, do you want them arrested? >> Yes. >> Okay. How many times did you get hit? >> Once. >> Once. >> But I mean, just with all >> They should have it on the video. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And um >> it was like three or four people over there that saw it. >> Okay. About how long ago did this happen? Right when you called us. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Did you call us from your phone? >> Yes. >> Okay. Were there other people that were there watching it? Were they employees or they >> like three other employees >> that you know by name or so? Did you hit her back? >> No. >> Okay. How'd you get away from her? >> She walked away from me. >> So, she hit you once and then she kind of walked away. >> Okay. >> The officers proceeded into the store's camera room where they watched and verified the woman's actions. Shortly after gathering the necessary details from the victim, the officers located the suspect not far from the store. When they approached her to hear her side of the story, her statements didn't quite add up, only raising more questions. >> Hello. What's going on today? >> We was going to We was going to get some stuff and then this lady just punched him. >> Lady punched him? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And I And I just told him I thought so too. >> And I just we're going to take him on the other side cuz I lost one of my shoes. >> Okay. I just took him. >> You speak English? >> That's my dad. That's my dad. >> Okay. Talk to him. And >> I think she scared me. I mean, I couldn't believe it. >> Okay. What the lady look like? >> I think she was a black lady. >> Yeah. I love my daddy. I don't know why she would do something like that. Oh, I'm okay. >> Do you have ID on you today, sir? >> Oh, yes. >> Please get your ID. Are you okay? >> We're just standing back and forth like you. I went to do that to my dad. I love my dad. >> Can you Can you walk us through what happened today? >> We were just um trying to get on the bus and then we went inside the Walmart. Okay. >> And then while we was trying to check out our stuff, I just seen the lady punch him. So, I just took him to walk into the other >> So, did this happen by the by the bus stop? >> Inside of Walgreens. inside of Walmart. Would the lady Was she an employee at Walmart? >> He's he's a cashier. >> Oh my god. >> It's a cashier. >> Yeah. >> So, a cashier. >> Punch me. >> Punch my dad. >> Okay. Did you Did you hit her back? >> No. No. No. >> Don't touch him. >> Did you know why she hit you? >> I don't know. >> You don't even know her. >> Say, do you know her? >> Me and my dad just went inside a Walmart and that lady just punched him. >> Okay. Did Did you have words with her? Did you say anything to her? I was saying >> you didn't say anything. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> So, you just went inside Walmart and this lady walked up to you as an employee, a cashier at Walmart and she just punched it. >> Did Did you see that happen or did you or did you just hear about it? >> I did hear it. I could see. >> So, you saw it happen and there was no words exchanged at all? No. >> Nothing but it took the one guy broken. I grabbed them. >> So you don't know her? Didn't say any words to her. Did she say anything after she punched you or anything? >> I swear they go. >> We just went We just went in there. We're going to wait on the bus. I was going to ask >> because we lost one. Okay. >> I'm going to go to that, >> you know. I just put him out. >> Oh, >> okay. During the investigation, one of the officers requested Cathia's ID and ran it through the police database. The results they received only raised more questions than they could have anticipated, and her reaction deepened their suspicions. >> Kathy, are you on um you on probation? >> No. >> You are on probation? >> Uh-uh. Well, I'm not ready. >> You're not on probation? >> No. >> Are you sure? Daddy, >> definitely on probation. possession. >> No, >> out of Fort Pierce. >> Where's your other shoe? Kata said up here. >> Did you say what they were doing down here for Fort Pierce? Are they just homeless or >> No, it's just >> Excuse me. >> No, no, no, no, no. Stay up there. No, no. Back up there. Stay up here. Just We're just going to wake up till we find out what's going on. Okay. >> Yeah, we have to get on so he can go. >> What are you guys doing down here in Stewart? >> We stay for >> You stay at Fort Lauderdale. >> What are you doing here? >> Still a long way from Fort Lauderdale. Um, you trying to get my car and stuff. >> You're trying to get your car? What? >> I'm trying to get my car. I'm in Fort Lauderdale. >> Fort Do you have a residence in Fort Lauderdale? >> No. >> No. >> Oh, yeah. We do. We stay at his sister's house. 3568 Southwest Fort Lauderdale. >> Gotcha. Okay. So, nothing in particular brought you to Steuart other than you're just looking for a car. >> Yeah. >> I would think there probably better deals down in West Palm Beach and Stewart and Fort Lauderdale for cars. I mean, we don't have anywhere near like the car lots they have down there. >> Can we get something better? Scotty, I I would get in touch before Pierce probation and parole before you get violated if you don't think you're on you're you're 100% on probation. >> Okay. >> Probation for and then >> you guys where you going? >> I said stay right here. >> You got to stay right here for right now. Okay. You got to find out what happened over at Walmart. >> Kathia was escorted towards a patrol vehicle for further questioning while another officer stayed behind with her alleged father, hoping to gather some clarity from him. Before making a final decision on Cathia's arrest, the officer read her rights and questioned her once more, hoping for a legible explanation, but she clung on to the same story. >> I just want to talk to you, but before I do, I want to read you something. All right. >> No, no, ma'am. Come here. Come here. >> Okay. So, >> right, ma'am. I I got to talk to you, but before I do that, I have to see you. Okay. All right. All right. This marks the onset of her hysterical outburst. >> How far How far is your mom's house from here? >> She stays in Fort Pier. >> Okay. Where? Fort Pier is pretty big. 17. I love my >> head. >> In the end, Cathio was charged with battery, resisting arrest without violence, and possession of a controlled substance. At Walmart, she hid behind her father in West Palm Beach. The next suspect hid behind her kids. And when the excuses ran out, the truth hit harder than any punch. >> He kicked me. I hit him. We kind of >> hitting me and she's opening the truck. She went in the truck, grabbed my personal phone, and she took off and ran away with it in the lot times in my face. >> You are going to place arrest. Okay. >> What? before hitting him, throwing into his truck. >> On the 12th of November 2023, West Palm Beach police officers were called to the scene after a woman became aggressive with a tow truck driver. The driver had placed a boot on her car, requiring her to pay a parking ticket. But instead of complying, she lashed out, hitting him multiple times. In fear, the driver retreated to his vehicle. But when the officers arrived and approached the woman, her version of events was far from the truth. What's going on, man? Um, basically I came, it's my daughter's birthday. Came to bring her down to rob somebody. >> Okay. >> Scam because uh Audi pulled up so close to me like the door was hitting my door, so I couldn't see what he was doing. I was literally right across the street. Two seconds we walked, four little kids, we walked right across the street. I'm like, "Hey, you just like he's like, "No, you wasn't in the park." I'm like, "Sir, I'm right here. like you didn't give me I just need to check the bike policy so I can do what I need to do with these little kids. It's my daughter's birthday. >> Oh no ma'am. No ma'am. No ma'am. Just you whatever. And so we basically got into a scuffle. >> Yeah. We kind of he kicked me. I hit him. We kind of went away. >> It was just all over the place. Okay. And the kids were involved and everything. And um I'm >> Do you need medics? Do you think any of the kids need medicics? >> I just I just want to um I just honestly just go home. >> Is that okay? You have you have ID on you? >> I don't. I have it in my bag though. Hold on. I'm talking to the police. I don't have my purse. >> Okay. >> I got it in my phone. I don't have it physically on me. I have it in my phone though. Okay. >> I didn't I didn't bring anything cuz I thought I could do just Apple Pay and take them on somebody else. Okay, give me uh give me a second. >> How you doing, guys? Let me tell you how this all started. Um, so I booted the vehicle. Yep. >> She didn't pay for the parking. >> Um, once the boots are on the vehicle, we're authorized to take a $65 payment. >> Um, as I was writing the warning, everything, she didn't pay for parking. As I was writing the warning, she grabbed the marker from my hand. She tossed it. She became aggressive >> and I let her know I have to receive the payment. And then after that, uh, she just started having commotion, walking up on me. She slapped me probably a couple times, three, four times. We have camera footage on the trucks. I have a little bit of camera footage of her assaulting me. Okay. >> Hitting me, and she's opening the truck. She went in the truck, grabbed my personal phone, and she took off and ran away with it in the lot. I had a couple bystanders here. I'm not too sure where they are. >> Um, and then also when I was back right here, she grabbed my company phone as well. So, she had both at the same time I was asking for her back. >> She was demanding for me to take the boots off. I told her, "No, I need my property back." She still became >> aggressive, walking up on me, trying to hit on me while I'm trying to come to the truck in the border cuz I'm a dude. >> And right here when she's slapping right here, she's claim they're claiming that I hit her, but I just pushed her off because I'm not going to let nobody hit me. I I just pushed, >> right? >> But I don't like how she put her hair on me and took both of my forms. Okay. >> Not like the first time. >> Okay. >> And I can show you the videos. >> Okay. Do you have both phones? >> Yes, I have them now. >> Okay. Do you need reics or anything like that injuries? No. >> Okay. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Yes. >> After listening to both sides, the officers turned to the caller for clarity. What the caller revealed, backed by solid evidence, completely disproved the woman's twisted story, exposing the truth behind the incident. >> What What exactly happened? >> So, when I went over there, >> um, She was hitting him in the face and everything else. And um by the time I got my phone, I was kind of too late. I'll show you what I have left. >> But um being very patient, got a hold of his phone. She threw his phone. You can see she's afraid. She has the phone right now. Oh, you can see he's afraid of her. That's it right there. >> Like I said, this is towards that. You can see how he scared. I mean, she whacked a double time in my face. I don't know with her hand or with her phone. I don't know what the hell it was, but you can see scared. >> Scared the camera, but uh he got he finally got in the car and locked the doors. That's when I told you guys. Nothing about it. Like I said, I s I saw more than I could use. >> First, I was just like, "Look, okay, can you can you show that to me real quick?" Sure. >> This truck has 360 footage, so So, >> okay. So, this is between you and her? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And this was over what? The boot. >> Yeah. >> Being on there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um Hey, give me uh give me one second. All right. >> The officers then returned to the suspect and her slurred words only confirmed that her story was completely fabricated. >> You said you don't have any injuries on you at all, right? >> I mean, he was my ankle. He kicked it a few times so it's not it was swollen right now actually. So like I mean I don't know if the other gentleman called you but yeah he >> Okay. Yeah. So yeah, I need the I guess I need Yeah, I need >> Yeah, 371 South Drive just occurred. Charlie on division 2. >> 225. >> As soon as I hung up the phone, I call >> Where did this all occur? >> Right here in this >> in this parking lot. Right here. >> Okay. >> The officers then turned their attention to the tow truck driver who, after enduring multiple assaults from the woman, made the decision to press charges. >> You said you had footage. Yeah, I have footage. I was not going to press charges, but she she hit me several times. So, this is footage of her getting in the slapping the phone out my hand, stopping me from recording for having proof of her walking on me and hating me. >> Okay. >> And also have proof of her going in the company vehicle, snatching the phones, stopping me from entering it. >> Back up. Now you back up. >> She kept being the aggressive, >> went in the company vehicle >> and that's what she grabbed my phone. There's more footage obviously I don't have right now. I have a supervisor coming down >> and I wish I had the bystanders that alerted you guys. There was a guy recording when she was chasing me around a lot when I was trying to get away from her. Obviously she's an email. I don't touch females. Uh, I was just trying to deescalate the system. I mean, the the situation. >> Yeah, that's pretty much, man. I mean, I don't know. How does this process work? >> Um, so it's essentially getting a little bit your story, your story, the video you have. We'll try to see if we can anybody buyers that we get. Um, >> I mean, as far as you said, you you want to press charges. I mean, you want to go to court and you're willing to go to court through everything like that? >> Yep. >> Um, >> follow me up. >> Um, >> just give us a second. Let's go. Uh, I'm going to go see if I can talk to any uh any bystanders. >> Okay. In uh >> Washington from Southern. >> With mounting evidence backing the victim's account and nothing to support the woman's version of events, the officers had no choice but to move forward with the arrest. However, the woman did not take this lightly. I don't know if it has anyone's spoken to yet. Okay. So, you are going to place under arrest. Okay. >> For hitting him, going into his truck, taking the phones, all that is that's not okay. That's not right. Um, >> he hit me too. >> That That doesn't give me the right to hit him multiple times cuz I have multiple people telling that you hit him. I have video of you going into the truck taking his phone. >> Both of your phones. >> So he wants to press charges. >> Yeah, >> I do too. >> So >> I want to press charges too. He hit me and my daughter. So and y'all have video that too. >> It's four kids. Like >> All right. I mean I can't do nothing about it obviously, but he I mean it's my word against his word. Okay. I mean, >> and the the videos that we got from multiple different people >> what >> showing him showing you hitting him. >> Okay. So, they weren't around when he was hitting me. >> I I'll document all that. >> Okay. >> Once. >> Just don't say anything else. >> I just don't want to do anything with the kids. >> And and that's that's why I'm here talking to you guys first >> is so you can go to him, make the payment, take the boot off of the car, >> okay? >> And that way you can get the kids out of here. All right, cool. Yeah, we'll just deal with it in court. >> Which kid are you see? >> My daughter right here. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, he hit my head. He kicked me. He hit me back. >> Okay. How old are you? >> 10. I mean 11. >> 10. 11. >> I just turned 11 today. >> You just turned 11. Okay. Happy birthday. >> Thank you. >> Um, what happened? So we were right over there and then we were going to go get something to eat right after. So then we just came back cuz it wasn't working. So we came back and then the my mom saw her car. So then she got like mad and stuff and then she was please take off the car and then the mail was like no. And then that's his job to do that and then my mom was just like kind of arguing with me and stuff and then he um my mom um she he was recording it and then my mom like went close to him and then my mom just like kicked him. I meant no. He kicked my mom and then her shoes came off and stuff and then that's when her ankle started and stuff and then my mom and then he was like pushing my mom and stuff. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And then that's when my mom took like one of the toys and then he gave it back and then he went back inside his car and then they called the guys. >> Okay. Did he hit you at all? >> No, not me. >> No. >> Well, I don't believe so. >> You don't? Okay. Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you. In the end, the woman was charged with burglary, grand theft, and
