Oh. Oh, no. >> Well, you don't really have a choice in that right now. Why can't No, you're you're a mother. >> He's a dad and he can't come get us. >> Horrific parents tend to maintain an awful attitude towards [music] their children, but then suddenly pretend to care when caught red-handed. >> This morning, she choked you. >> Let me see your neck. >> When did she do this? >> No. No. Why are you doing this? No. Here are the moments when horrific parents realize that they've been caught red-handed. Starting with Alexis, who dumped and left her little one who was only hours old in a trash bag. >> You know who maybe it is? >> Right. Like I had the trash bag in the car. I I put it in I put it in the bag. I took it to the car. >> Where did you throw the garbage bag? >> In the trash. >> In the trash. On Friday, January the 7th, 2022, in Hobbs, New Mexico, at approximately 7:42 p.m., three dumpster divers were searching for anything of value when they came across the most precious gift known to man. Wrapped, discarded, and [music] abandoned. The discovery prompted an immediate call to the Hobs Police Department. >> Do you know whose baby it is? Is it your baby, April? Is it your baby? No. >> No, it's nothing. We were dumpster diving. >> I think >> so. Who found him? Where? >> Me and him. >> They heard him. >> He heard it first and I and we just kind of >> bag and I I >> Yeah, I set the bag cuz he >> Where was the bag at? >> In that trash middle of the trash on the very first side. >> Okay. The far trash can. Correct. >> Far trash. The very front right there about middle. >> The very bottom. >> Yeah. Down near the bottom. Huh. >> The camera. like trash. >> Good job. Thank you. >> Not really. Unbelievable work there. He wouldn't leave unless it was here. >> The discovery of the child raised urgent questions like how did the baby end up there and whose child was it? Surveillance footage showed a car pulling up to the dumpster 6 hours earlier. At 1:32 p.m., a woman stepped out, tossed a garbage bag inside, and drove away. The license plate led officers to an 18-year-old woman, prompting an intensive investigation. The detectives had to find out whether she was the victim, the perpetrator, or somehow a beneficiary of such an awful act. She was then invited for an interview with the police. >> Okay. Lastly, you do not have to talk to me, but if you do, you have the right to stop talking at any time. Okay. So, today approximately 30. Okay. So, 7th day January 2022 approximately 11:30 p.m. So, if you're willing to speak with me, you can initial all these bulletins that you understood your rights and print sign. And it's going to ask you at the bottom if you so want to talk to me or not. Okay. >> [music] >> And what else do I do? >> Um, if you wish to talk to me or not, you can just initial yes or no. Okay. All right. So, I know there's there's a lot, okay, to talk about and I just want to ask you, you know, why you think you're here? What led us to us being here? All right. Obviously, I do know information and the last thing I want to do is, you know, to start off on the wrong foot and for you to start, you know, lying. There's always two sides to the story. Obviously, I'm looking at a evidence standpoint, what we what we were called out to. There's I don't know what you're going through. If you're going through anything, we're all humans, you know, before me being a detective. Um, I'm I'm a father, you know, I'm I'm I'm, you know, son and stuff like that. We're all human. And it doesn't matter what rank we have or how old we are. All right? And that's why, you know, I ask you to come out here and give me your your side of the story. Okay? I'm not here to judge you. I'm not here to question you. I'm not here to accuse you. I'm not here to, you know, belittle you. That's not what I do. That's not my job. So, my job is to investigate. That's exactly what I'm doing. All right? So, um, if you can, I would kindly ask you just to tell me the truth and we'll go from there. Okay? So, you want to tell me what's going on or what happened today or what led to this? >> What? >> I don't I mean, I could tell you, but I need you to ask because then I can't tell you because I don't. >> Okay. So, um obviously I got confirmation that you you were pregnant. Okay. >> Right. >> Right. I I found that out yesterday. >> You found that out yesterday? >> Yesterday. >> Okay. So, tell me a little bit more about that. What? What do you mean? Like, >> um, so how is it that you found out or how? >> Well, I've been having back pain like really bad and I got in an accident September of 20 21. >> Okay. >> 22, 2 years ago. And um, I just thought that's what it was. And I mean, the pain comes and goes. And so I didn't really think anything much of it. Um, and it just kept hurting. And so we my mom took me to the ER and they just said that I had some kind of spray and I don't even know what kind it was. >> Mhm. >> And they just gave me medicine for it and it wasn't helping. >> Okay. >> But I still didn't think anything much of it. Um I gave them my urine sample and see if infection or anything. [music] There was nothing I guess. I don't know. And then um I just kept hurting and so I went to the clinic and they did a urine sample and they told me I was pregnant and that's when I found out. >> You said it was yesterday. >> Yesterday. >> And where did you go? What clinic? What? >> The one on Del Paso. >> Del Paso. Okay. Which one? Lady. [music] >> Yeah. Okay. >> The one under construction. >> All right. Who took you? >> Myself. My parents were at work. The lady was identified as Alexis Ailla, and her account clashed sharply with the [music] reality of a baby found in a dumpster. What she didn't know was that the officer already had evidence tying her directly to this terrible [music] situation. >> Okay. So, I believe your mom said that she had accompanied you or she took you or she went with you. >> No, she didn't. >> Okay. >> I went by myself. >> All right. So, as I mentioned to you before anything, I I I like to speak, you know, with the truth, obviously. Okay. I spoke to some people and I I know that back in March, you know, is when you spoke to some people and you told them that you were pregnant, so you had prior knowledge. All right. So, I'm not going to >> back in March, >> right? You know, >> somebody by the name of Walker. Do you know anybody? A friend of yours, a school friend of yours >> that I spoke with and she's the one that told me that you knew that you were pregnant. >> Walker. and that you did not want the child. >> Walker. >> Mhm. Her mom is a nurse at the hospital. >> Walker. >> She's a friend of yours. You don't know anybody by that name? >> No. >> No, >> not a walker. >> Okay. Well, that's her mom's last name, but I spoke with her and she's the one that told me obviously that you knew had prior knowledge. >> All right. Like I said, if you got to be straight forward. >> I don't know. I swear I don't know a walker. >> Okay. So anyway, explain to me as far as what happened today. How did your day start today? >> The same as any other day. What was the for the past couple of days? >> Okay. >> Um it I was in pain. I just thought I was a what is it called? Okay. Think I'm sorry. It's okay. I know there's a lot. I understand there's a lot going on. where you can't poop. >> Okay. Constipation. >> Yeah. Yeah. I just thought that's what it was. >> Okay. >> Literally whole day. And I would go to sleep and then go back to the restroom. Go to sleep and go back to the restroom and just the same thing. >> Okay. So, what time did you your day start? >> I don't even I couldn't tell you to be honest. >> Okay. So, you don't know what time you woke up or do you are you working? Do you go to school? [music] >> I I go to school, but I didn't go I haven't been to school this week and I didn't have work today. >> Okay. Where are you working at? >> Martin poop. >> Okay. So, you haven't been going to school this whole what week? >> No. >> No. Because you've been sick or >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, you don't know what time you woke up? Obviously, a lot happened. Okay. So, I just wanted time frame as far as >> I wouldn't be able to tell you. >> Okay. You don't know what time you wake up, >> but you woke up. >> Yeah. Right. at your parents house where you live? >> Yes. >> What's your address? >> Um, you woke up there. You live with your parents, >> right? >> Okay. Um, what did you do when you when you woke up? >> I went to the restroom. I was in pain. I was up all night going I was asleep and I go to the restroom and >> just all hours of the night all day today. >> Okay. So, what happened after you started going to the restroom? I just went back to sleep cuz I couldn't go. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And then after that, what did she do? >> What do you mean? >> Yeah. I mean, obviously >> it was repetitive. And then um my dad came my dad went to the store and went got me some pills. I don't even know what they were, but um they were supposed to help me poop. And I took it and I went back to sleep. And I stayed asleep for I don't even know how long. Okay. >> And then I woke up and I kept trying to use the restroom and I'd go back to sleep and then it's just repetitive. >> What happened after that? >> What do you mean? >> So obviously I mean you you and I know what happened. I mean >> Oh yeah, but like I'm I'm I can't tell you if you like I'm not a very good explanation. Okay. So, obviously you gave birth to a child. We're I'm trying to find out where it happened, how it happened or what led to that and stuff like that. >> Um I [gasps] I went to sleep and then I woke up and I went to the restroom and I was just trying and then um it it came out and I thought it was poop and then it it wasn't. >> Okay. All along, she had carefully avoided saying more than she was asked. But as the interview progressed, the truth began to surface. Her evasiveness could only conceal so much and only for so long. >> So you were where? And you at your house? >> Yeah. I was by myself. You >> were by yourself? >> Yes. >> Okay. I bet I mean that's that's not normal, right? >> Right. >> Okay. What happened after that? >> I I was in a panic. I didn't know what to do. >> Okay. >> I was scared. >> Okay. What did you do after? >> I I I cleaned myself and I just I just left it where it was and I was scared and I was trying to call my mom and I couldn't cuz I was so scared. I was I think she's going to hate me. >> Okay. >> What made you think though? >> Just because I just turned 18. I haven't been been [music] 18 for a month and I'm the baby, >> right? I understand that's that's a lot to take. Okay. And that's why I'm here getting your side of the story. >> Um, you were home alone or who was >> No, I was by myself. >> You were by yourself? Okay. And this happened where >> in the restroom. Your restroom. You guys have separate restrooms. You >> Oh, there's one restroom. >> There's one restroom. >> Okay. What did you do after the fact? >> What do you mean? >> Or what happened? I mean, obviously, >> like I was I was I was just cleaning. I was scared. I didn't know what to do with me. >> Okay. and I just wrapped it in a in a in a towel. >> Okay. Um, did you ever thought of contacting, you know, an ambulance, a fire department, go out there and check you out? >> I didn't do it. I was scared. I didn't know what to do. >> Okay. Scared of what exactly? >> The baby. I like it was nowhere, >> right? But you're telling me that you knew yesterday, right? >> Yeah, but I didn't know it was I didn't know how and I didn't know nothing. >> I knew, but I didn't like know it was coming today. >> Right. >> So, it was unexpected. You weren't expecting it to happen. >> No. >> Did you contact anybody? >> No. >> Okay. You said you didn't contact your mom? >> No. I tried, but I I couldn't. I was scared. >> Okay. So there's a difference between being scared. I mean, I understand you're young. You don't know obviously, but if you both you and I know that in pregnancies, you know, they're they're pretty obvious. Your stomach starts growing, you know, you got se several different symptoms and stuff like that. >> I didn't know nothing. I didn't have nothing. I just thought I was gaining weight. I was eating more. I was nothing nothing changed. M. >> So, you're in the restroom, you give birth, you wrap it into a towel. What is that? Your towel? What color towel? >> I don't even remember to be honest. >> Okay. So, what was your next? What What else you do after that? >> I I just left and I drove around and and I just put it where I put it. >> Okay. Where are we talking about? Put it where? I mean, obviously I know where you went and you didn't put >> Right. Like I had the trash bag in the car. >> Okay. >> If you couldn't tell, the car is messy. >> Mhm. >> But I I I put it I >> So, >> and then I I I put it in I put it in the bag. I took it to the car. I When I was in the car, I put I have two trash bags. I took one with me, which is the one that I had, and then I I put it again, and then I was I I drove around and I didn't know what to do, and I just put it in there. >> Okay. Where did you go? >> What do you mean? >> Where did you drive to? >> J C Penney. I just in I lived that I was in that area. I was I live in that area. >> So, where did you where did you throw the garbage bag? >> In the trash. >> In the trash. Okay. Did you lock it up? Did seal it up >> with the the hair tie? >> I'm sorry. >> With the hair tie. >> With the hair tie. >> But I don't even think it stuck cuz it was broke. >> Okay. >> So, we're on the verge of breaking. >> Okay. Were you by yourself in the car? >> I was by myself the whole time. >> Okay. You never notified anybody? >> No. >> Okay. So, you grabbed your hair tie and just wrapped it around the bag. >> Both bags or >> No, just Well, I guess. Yeah. At this point, it was clear that she had committed the awful act, but the officer continued to probe her, determined to understand her thought process. So, >> I don't even think it stayed to be honest. I like I said, it was broke. Like, it was on the verge of breaking. >> Right. Did you place it there? Did you throw it there? What did you do? >> I just What do you mean? >> I mean, the trash >> in the trash. I just when I tossed it in >> the normal trash can, like one of those that they pick up the city picks up or the bigger trash can or what? the bigger trash can be. >> Oh, what kind of trash can were we talking about this? >> The the bigger ones, I guess. >> Okay. What color was the trash can? >> Green. Weren't they all green? >> So, you just went and place it inside or outside or >> inside. >> All righty. Um, so obviously you're 18 years of age. You know right from wrong, right? >> Right. >> Okay. So, >> you wrap around a newborn inside a trash bag. >> Don't panic. I I'm I just turned 18. >> Right. It's not like I've been 18 forever. >> Exactly. But, you know, I mean, if somebody were to wrap you inside a trash can and put a tie on it and you're not able to move. >> Well, the tie was broke. Like, I could I wouldn't be able to stick my [music] hand in there. >> What do you think would have happened? >> What do you mean? >> So, what do you think would have happened? You never notified law enforcement. You never called for EMS. I didn't I'm still in >> What What exactly? What do you think was going to happen? >> I don't know. >> You don't know what would have happened. >> Well, I mean, obviously I know, but >> and I I I'm in a panic. I I don't I There's a baby in front of me. I just >> Okay. Do you never notified your mom? >> Never. >> No. You never notified anybody? >> Nobody. >> Okay. So, it's not, you know, it's not normal behavior from any reasonable person to do what you did. If I'm >> What do you mean? >> It's not >> in a panic when I just turned 18, >> right? It still isn't though. We're talking about a baby. >> Well, I know. I know what you mean, [music] but like I'm I get what you mean. >> Let me take a small break. Okay. I'll be right back. >> Yeah. My mom's coming here and you're gone. >> Um, well, you're 18. You're of age. Okay. So, >> unless you were a juvenile, [music] then that would change things. But give me just a minute. I'll be right back. >> Not even while you're out of the room. >> Let me see what I can do. Okay. >> The officer returned, but this time his questions were far more direct. It seemed she had been holding back critical details all along. As she recounted the awful and very disturbing act, one might have expected her to break down. Instead, [music] she focused only on defending herself. >> Sorry about that. >> All right, back to where we left off. Um, I appreciate you, you know, being telling me what happened and stuff. What did you do after the fact? I know. What time more or less was it? Do you remember? Do you recall? >> Like 2:15, maybe somewhere around that time. >> Okay. That's when you dropped off the baby >> somewhere, I believe. So, yeah. >> What did you do after the fact? >> I drove around. Continue to drive around. >> Continue to drive around to do what? To >> just I don't know. Just to clear my to to figure out what to do. >> Okay. >> What else? I mean, where'd you go? Where'd you end up going? Where did you >> I ended up going to my house. You >> ended up going to your house. What did you do after? When I went to my house, I just sat on my bed and I was trying to figure out what what I was supposed to do or what I what what to do. >> At any point, did you make anybody aware of it? >> No, I was still in shock. >> Okay. Nobody found out. Nobody knew about it. Okay. Were your parents back home at the time? You were home alone? Okay. Did you seek any medical attention or No. Did you think about, you know, what could have happened or what, you know, could end up happening to the baby? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> My mom said it was in love, but is it okay? >> Okay. Um, they'll be briefing me here as we go. So, last I heard the baby's okay. >> Okay. God. >> So, did you ever cross your mind to let anybody know? Contact law enforcement, you know, go back I don't know. >> Okay. >> Cuz I was still in still in shock the whole time. When my parents got home, they they just didn't tell them I was still in shock. I was just in my room. >> You're in your room? >> Okay. Did you ever leave the home afterwards? Did you go anywhere? >> No. >> Did you talk to your parents when they got home? >> Yeah, eventually. But I didn't say anything. >> So your parents had no knowledge? >> No knowledge? Absolutely not. >> And what if I were to tell you that they did have knowledge? >> They they told me they did know about it. >> What would you say then? >> How? Because I didn't even know. >> Okay. You didn't know? But yesterday you found out. >> Mean, what do you mean? Because I feel like we're talking about two different things and it's not going well. >> We're talking about a baby that was thrown in the trash like garbage, right? And it's a human being. That's what we're talking about. When my knowledge is when they found out is when the officer showed up at my house. >> Okay. So, I'm talking about the knowledge of you being pregnant, obviously. >> Oh, >> cuz I know that you knew back when you found out you were pregnant and it wasn't yesterday. That's what I took. >> Okay. I I don't like I said, I don't I don't go that route, but I know and I do my investigation prior to even talking to you and, you know, coming out here and interviewing you. Okay. As I told you, I don't I don't I'm not here to judge you. There's two sides to a story, but if you're going to come and tell me that you found out you were pregnant yesterday, and I know that's a lie. >> Well, >> sorry. No, go ahead. >> Then it changes things because I don't I don't appreciate that, [clears throat] >> right? I found out I was pregnant yesterday. >> Okay. >> Because I heard it. The doctor showed me. I knew back in whenever, [clears throat] but I didn't know. Does that make sense? Like I was like, "Oh, it's whatever." >> So you knew back when when is this? What are we talking about? >> Back in August. >> Okay. >> Maybe a little bit before that. >> All right. So yesterday whenever you went to the doctor, how far along did they tell you you were? >> They didn't say. >> They didn't tell you. >> No. >> The officer had gathered his findings. Each one backed by solid facts. Yet the exchange felt staged [music] as though she was simply acting out a role. Maybe the only role in the entire story. >> So >> that's how I didn't know it was coming today. >> Mhm. All right. So obviously I'm not a girl. I'm a guy. But I I know women have natural parents. So, how can you not know? >> I had my menstrual period every month. >> Okay. So, that never changed. >> Never. >> So, but you knew back in August. >> I Well, I took two. One was positive, one was negative. I took the negative. I didn't >> Okay. What about, you know, as far as you the gaining weight, any movement, any anything like that? >> No sir. >> Okay. So um back in June you had an in I guess you ran away from home. Were you having >> I guess you could say ran away. >> Okay. Was it a result of this and you having problems with >> It was a completely different matter. >> Okay. So is this the father of your baby, the person you were or you were having issues with or you were sending messages to your mom's messages saying that you were going to be with God and cops were called out to your address >> in June. Is it you know does this have to do to me it obviously >> it it has nothing to do with him? Absolutely nothing. This [music] is not the person that is responsible for your baby or >> I know this is a lot of questions I'm asking. I'm just trying to figure out. Like I said, I'm not here to >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, it's not a result of this. >> He had nothing to do like it was >> right. So, it's it's not him. Is there somebody we need to talk to? I mean, did he do something to you that would cause that would lead to this? Did he >> Did he No. >> No. >> Okay. But you do know who was the father of the baby. >> Yes. >> Okay. But he did. Yeah. >> Okay. Do you mind sharing his name? >> Steven. >> Okay. Steven. >> Yes, sir. >> It's probably spelled last name. >> A S T O R G I think. >> Do you happen to know his date of birth by chance? >> I don't. >> And do you know more or less how old he is? >> He's 16. 17. One of those. 16 or 17. >> Yes. >> You all dated for how long? >> Uh about a year and a half. >> Okay. >> So, I'm assuming you met in school. >> Yes. >> Do you mind me asking what happened or what? Did y'all break up? >> We We broke up, which wasn't working out. >> Okay. When did y'all break up? >> When? >> Mhm. >> Oh, I don't even remember. >> Do you don't remember? >> More or less. A year ago. >> About August, I think. >> Around August. >> Yeah. [music] Sometime when like the beginning of school. >> Okay. So you said things weren't working out. >> Yeah. >> So obviously if you know enough for you to tell me that he's obviously the father of your child, you should have known when you got pregnant, right? >> Honestly, not really. >> Not really. But you you're able to tell me who it is. So you >> Well, he's the only one I've ever been with. A reasonable person would say that you knew when you got pregnant. >> Not with all due respect, not necessarily cuz I mean, >> okay, >> I'm just, you know, you give me information obviously, but he didn't do anything as far as to lead you to do this. Did he? Nothing. >> Okay. [music] Did you just think um you would be better off without a child because you're too young? No, I >> Wait, wait, sorry. Go backtrack. What do you mean? >> Um, what's I'm trying to reason as far as >> like what is what is in my head or like what >> I'm trying to reason your actions. That's what I'm trying to find out. Oh, >> yeah. A reason behind your actions. >> After confirming whether she had any accompllices, a claim she denied, insisting she acted alone in the awful act. The officers allowed her to reunite with her family and offered medical attention, which she declined. But during that reunion, things took a dark turn. >> Alexis, I'm Officer Kario. If you could do me a favor and stand up. >> Okay, for right now, go ahead and stand up. Okay, >> we'll let you finish talking to mommy here in a second. Okay, >> go ahead. If you want to step over here for me, turn around and place your hands behind your back. Okay. Don't pull away. I can loosen it a little bit but not much more. Okay. Okay. So, the detective will talk to you after we get you booked in. Okay. Do you have anything else on you that you want to leave with them? No. >> We'll just have you step over here. Okay. You think you're >> too? [clears throat] Okay. You can print that paper for 290. >> You good? >> Um, courts at [music] 8 or 12. >> I'm checking something cuz >> Just give me one [music] second. I'm trying to verify something with the warrant cuz it's showing um that she might be getting out of the warrant after after [music] we procured. So, I just need to verify that. Okay. >> I don't know. That's what I'm trying to do. [clears throat] So once all our paperwork's done, she'll be released from the jail. It's an unsecure bond, which means she does have to appear in court on Monday morning, but they'll give her all the information about what time and where she needs to be. Okay. [clears throat] >> She'll be coming after dinner. >> No, she'll come out. Once we leave here, you guys can go around and park at the jail, which is on the back side on Delmont. It says the DA's office. That's going to be where she'll be coming down. In the end, she was charged [music] with attempted first degree. Also, the child survived the ordeal. While Alexis earned exactly what she deserved, her actions pald in comparison to Tristan, who drove to his child's school for pickup while too drunk to stand upright. >> What's your name? >> What's your name? Is it Tristan? The reason we were called out here today was because somebody feels like you might potentially be intoxicated. >> Ma'am, I'm not impaired at all. Right. >> I can smell the alcohol coming off. >> Yeah, you can smell it on your >> THIS IS WHAT YO, THIS IS WHAT YOU GOT TO DO. A PARENT. >> On January the 24th, 2024, right after school let out. Cops got a call about a parent driving wild. By the time the officers pulled up, things looked very bad. Still, her timing was the only thing standing [music] between chaos and the unthinkable. You know, God's people. Even Even God's people. Yeah. >> How's it going? >> What's going on, sir? >> I'm fine, man. >> Okay. Can I talk to you for a sec? >> You're good. You're good. We're good. What's going on? >> Nothing. What's What's the problem? >> No, I'm just check. You here to pick up the kids? >> Yes. I was just talking to one of the >> Okay. Any issue when you came in? >> No, >> no, no, no. Not that none that I could recollect? No. >> Okay. Did anybody have to talk to you when you came in? >> No. >> Okay. >> Did you come in too quickly? Did anybody have to stop? >> No. Normally when we come in, there's a line already and we have two kids and um my son's 10 and my daughter is two. So, it's a and they go to the same school. They both go here. So I >> and I was just talking to talking with him about parent pickup and other programs with the school as far as >> Okay. So basically what happened is a call came in that there was a concern there was a concern for you. Um whether this is another parent that called in I'm not sure. I'm not sure. >> No because it would it would be my wife would she >> No. Hold on a second. I'm not saying your wife didn't come. >> Is it okay for me to move over here? You're fine. Right where you at. Why do you need to move over there? >> What? >> I'm I'm not going to lie, ma'am. I picked up both of my children again. They're >> He's 10 and she's about 3 years old. >> A telltale sign that this man was struggling to keep himself together came when he fumbled over his own daughter's age. First calling her 2 years old, then moments later saying she was three. But that would only be the beginning. >> I've never had this. No, no, but I'm asking why did you want to move over there? You can just >> No, I you need to sit down. Just No, no, just comfortable for you cuz I've never >> had this kind of conversation. >> Well, there's not a confrontation. [music] You're not letting me talk. Let me Let me explain myself. >> No. Well, no. I'm >> So, you let me explain myself so you understand why I'm here, sir? >> I'm asking you. Are you good with that? Can I explain myself why I'm here? >> I've been okay all I've been nothing but called you with everybody here. I've never >> Nobody said you weren't cordial. Nobody said you fought with anyone. Nobody's implying that at all, sir. >> But but ma'am, I've never seen >> We're going to try this one more time. Are you going to allow me? >> But ma'am, I've never seen a officer talk to any and I've been here for years picking up my son and my daughter. >> There's a complaint that came in on you, which I'm trying to Yeah, but you're not giving me the opportunity to talk >> on my name. >> Okay, I'm going to ask you one more time. Are you going to allow me to speak and tell you what that is? >> I will, but but the fact that you You let me know that there's a complaint on me. >> Okay. Do me a favor and stop talking for a second. >> Stop talking for a second so I can explain why I'm here. Let me explain to you why I'm here. Somebody called in that you drove reckless through the parking lot. >> No, ma'am. >> They had to slow you down and that you were kind of slurring your words and you were uneasy on your feet. So now our concern is if you were possibly impaired. >> That's what I'm asking you. But you're not allowing me to even talk. I promise you every and my wife and myself >> and if not me and we we've never came like that >> and I was just and >> where's your wife? >> She's at She's at work. That's why I'm picking up the children. >> I'm not worried about your wife. I'm talking about for you right now. Okay. So, there's no correct. >> Are you under the influence of any >> No, but >> are you under the influence of any alcohol? >> No, but I was just talking to Look, he's right there. >> I don't need to look. I'm looking at you. I'm asking you. I want you to talk to me and don't worry about him. >> No, I'm not worried about him. But you specifically said people were [music] talking about me. This is a >> back up a bit. Don't get that close. There's no reason. >> Stay right where you're at. Okay, >> ma'am. I was before I even encountered you or seen you. I was speaking to you and I have I have never been aggressive with him or anything. My daughter comes out at 2:30 >> and my son who may be at work does not drive. >> He's I would say 10 11 years old. He comes out at at 245. >> Okay. >> I never came with no disrespect. >> Nobody said you were disrespect >> or any kind of aggressiveness. I was actually before you came to see >> driving. Nobody said you were aggressive with your mouth speeding. >> I would. Ma'am, I was not. >> Nobody had to slow you down. >> No. >> Nobody here in any line had to slow you down. >> Ma'am. Ma'am, I promise you when I actually have access to the vehicle, I drive. And when I don't, I ride. >> What does it mean when you have access to a vehicle? What does that mean? >> Meaning when my wife, she works corrections. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, she works at Charlotte County Corrections, not Airport Road, at the jail. When she has a vehicle, it's either she has a vehicle and I walk. >> Okay, are you understanding? Meaning, she >> Yeah, this is simple. This is This is >> So, but what is the problem? Because this is every day. So, what all I want to know is what I did wrong. And I >> I just told you. [music] What did I tell you that you did wrong? What did I tell you that they alleged you did >> being in here? >> Yes, I told you sir. >> Why was I why when having a conversation with and again as as parents of two children here because of the politicking going on, I don't [music] even know his position, but I was speaking to him. >> This man was already proving to be a textbook example of an awful and reckless parent. His speech pattern alone had already given him away. But drunks rarely [music] admit to being drunk, let alone to wanting to get in trouble for it. He didn't mention no speeding. That's number [music] one. Two, she and I'm not blaming her for anything. I mean, if she called and but once I reached to this premises, as of today, nobody said anything. >> Okay. >> All I'm telling you, I'm telling you what the complaint to the sheriff's office that came in. The complaint to the sheriff's office is that you were speeding through here when you came in. They had to slow you down and there's a concern when you exit a vehicle that you could be impaired. >> Ma'am, that's what I'm telling you with the complaint. >> Ma'am, I promise you that is incorrect because when I pulled up here to pick up my daughter and my son and I called earlier because again my son is almost 7 to 8 years older than my daughter, but they still go to the school. There's a voice record of that. >> Okay. >> That yes, he is coming here. And when I came here, I spoke to them. >> Back up a little bit. Back up. No, ma'am. Space though. Okay. You can't be in my space. >> That's all. That's fair to ask, right? >> Ma'am, when I came here, I was speaking with that one individual that just went in there. >> Okay. >> I did not speak. I ride my I ride my bike in here. I don't always drive because if you run my name, >> I ride [music] my bike. >> Drunks sometimes offer unsolicited information. and this was no exception. However, in his case, it was like shooting himself in the foot as his final statement sent the situation downhill and the tension quickly escalated. >> What's going to happen when I run your name? >> Is that nothing? >> No. What's going to happen when I run your name? >> Nothing. >> Let me have your driver's license, please. >> May I have your driver's license so I can run your name, sir? >> Negative. Trying to verify this. >> Do you not have one? Is it okay if I look for another unit? Okay, just bear with me for one second. >> Let me just Yeah, just hold on. There's someone else coming here because I'm I have to be freed up. So, I'm available for other calls. Come on over here, sir. Where are you walking away to? >> I'm moving out the way. >> You're not in anybody's way. You're good. >> No, be but >> you're good. >> No, the way you're calling things out. It's like I'm doing things. I'm not calling anything out. >> I called in advance. >> Why are you yelling? >> I'm not yelling. >> You're yelling, sir. You're yelling. Why would you be yelling? I'm not yelling at you. Don't put your hands in your pockets, please. Okay. >> So, I I I can't even have proof of this confrontation right now. >> I'll put my hands up. >> You don't need to put your hands up. >> Do you want to search to make sure? >> Absolutely. Yeah. >> Wait. >> Okay. >> Wait. >> Then keep your hands out of your pocket. If you don't want me to search you, that's fine. Keep your hands out. >> I will. Look, my hands will be up cuz you will embarrass me and not only me but my two children. >> We're not here to embarrass you. >> Yeah. No, that's exactly >> sir. I need you to stand right over here. Do not go. >> Ma'am, you just gave me permission to empty my >> First off. >> Ma'am, you just gave me permission. >> Ma'am, you just >> She just gave me permission. >> I'm not going to tell you again. [music] No, you're not emptying your pockets. I told you to not put >> Ma'am, you just gave me >> I told you not to put your hands in your pocket. If you put your hand in your pocket, >> but >> so there's something. So I'm trying to talk to him. He's very uh sir, that is not going to just let her breathe. >> Okay, let her let her breathe you. >> You don't need to put your hands up in the air. >> I'm going to put it No, >> you don't need to put your hands in the air. >> She gave me permission. >> No, no, no. You never gave permission to empty your pocket. Just put your hands down. >> Put your hands down. What's your name? >> She gave me permission. >> What's your name? What's your name? Is it Tristan? >> I've never seen no parent go through this. >> Okay, well, put your hand down. >> I'll put it down. >> Let me figure out >> No, I never seen no parent I never seen no other parent. >> Okay, hang tight. >> No, I And I'll >> take a seat for me. Just sit down, Trist. >> Sit. Yeah, sit down. Just sit right there. Just sit. >> You know what? Go ahead. Sit right there. >> I've never seen no parent go through this. >> Okay, listen to me. Just relax. Take some deep breaths for me. I'm fine. >> Do you have your driver's license on you? >> Huh? >> Do you have your driver's license on you by yourself? >> Why do I need my driver's license to pick up my children? >> Well, I want to know who I'm speaking with. That way I can >> The school can identify you as that. >> Huh? >> The school can identify me and identify you. >> Well, I don't work for the school. I work for the sheriff's office. >> Neither do I. >> Neither do you. What? >> I And I called I called the school in advance and >> you don't you can put your hands down. >> No, sir. Cuz >> she's she's >> No, she she made me aware. >> Okay. All right. Well, I'm I'm talking to you now. So, do you have >> And there's no disrespect. I >> Okay. Do you have >> as a security officer in in New York, not here in Florida, >> cuz I was never even given the opportunity to, but >> Okay. Okay. Hold on. >> Do you have any sort of weapons on you by any chance? Guns, knives. >> It's on my left hand. It's on my left hand side. >> Okay. >> All right. You don't have any weapons on you by any chance? >> No. No weapons. If anything, it might be a pen. >> Okay. And that's but there's no >> a writing pen. >> There's no guns. There's no knives. There's no nothing. And >> Okay. So, what's your first name? Let's start off with that. >> What did I do wrong to pick up my children? >> I would like to be respectful and address you by your first name. That way, I'm just >> Tristan is my first name. [music] >> Tristan. I'm Deputy Kimberly. >> What did I do wrong to pick up my children? >> I'm getting I'm getting ready to explain to you. You just I tried I did explain just a complaint though what I was trying [music] >> which I did >> once again I'm Deputy Kimberly Sheriff's Office. Okay. >> Notably since he had slipped up about driving and riding he had been evasive when asked to identify himself. Perhaps there was something behind it. Or maybe it was just the influence of alcohol. Either way, if he didn't straighten up in time, things might get even uglier. >> The reason we were called out here today was because somebody feels like you might potentially be intoxicated picking up your children. And then they had to stop him. I don't know if that was in the call, but then when they >> Ma'am Ma'am, he was going too fast and they had to slow him down. Okay. And I was trying to explain that to him. >> Ma'am, I never I never there's speed could >> I know, sir. I was just telling you what the people >> No, I understand that. But that's what I'm saying. All I did was And I called earlier to pick up my son and I never even got out the vehicle. I I never even got out the vehicle. I >> You were out of the vehicle when I got here. >> Was that just to talk to them? >> You were standing outside. >> My My daughter, she's I don't know the age cuz we we pay like seven $600. She comes out she comes out at 230. >> Okay. My son comes out at 2:45. >> Okay. >> Today is um Wednesday, Wednesday and Thursday. He gets out later because he has honors choir. >> Okay. >> Today he would have honors choir, but he has a doctor's appointment for his air infection. >> Okay. >> So, I already before I even reached here, we called the school in advance. Okay. Well, no one's arguing. >> Hey, we're going to >> No one's arguing that you're here to pick up your children. I told you what. >> I promise. My ma'am, I promise through the parking lot. >> I would never I would >> The fact that I'm having a difficult time even having a conversation with you concerns me if there's anything going on. It was a miracle he had made it to the school without incident. But to keep it that way, the officers had their work cut out for him. >> I'm not in law enforcement, sir. >> I'm just a parent picking up my daughter and my son and my son is in fourth grade and my daughter is not even in first or second grade. She's So they have a big age gap. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And unsurprisingly, it got them nowhere. His impairment was plain for all to see. As things continued to unfold, it was becoming clear that perhaps it was time for a different approach. >> Take a seat. >> I didn't do nothing wrong. I'm not taking a seat. >> I'm not stepping towards nobody. Relax. Sit down. >> Sit down. >> Just sit down, dude. She's turning 13. decided to go to our grandpa's for like a couple hours and then we came back and our mom got mad at us. She was taking us out and she ripped Jada's LED lights and she choked Jada. >> My dad arrested for >> what? >> On July the 18th, 2021, authorities were dispatched to a home in Florida after reports of a mother assaulting her own children. Landlord, tenant, laws. >> So, what is what is my law for him coming into my home? >> He has to give notice. >> How much notice? >> I'm not too sure. I had to review the statute, but he does have to give notice. >> I know. I'm not trying to ask for this, but he wants to take my kids, too. I'm a good mom and I know Florida is a mother's tape. >> Okay. >> You don't want him to take him out somewhere? >> No. No. >> But you're clearly inebriated. Well, hang out right here. I'll go talk with them. Okay. Okay. >> Rosanna had little of value to report. What she did say revealed nothing but jealousy [music] and a life in desperate need of personal work. Setting her aside, the officer turned to the frightened children. At first, they struggled [music] to speak. But once they opened up, it started to become clear who the real wolf in sheep's clothing was. >> All right. >> What's going on? Were you coming over here for them to take them somewhere? go around. >> Well, what time did y'all call me this morning? About noon. >> Okay. >> They called me about noon. >> About 1:30. >> Yeah. Will you take us back home? And then she said, I got a doctor's appointment Wednesday for my iron to be checked. Can you take me to the doctor's Wednesday? I said, if you guys really want to go back home, that's fine. I'll take you back home, but if you need any help, you call me. >> So, I brought them back 30 minutes ago, maybe 45, and within 20 minutes, they called me. >> Okay. Um, well, I'll speak with you first over here. We can walk over quick over here. We just want to talk with you um away from everybody else. So, what happened when you got back over here? You got dropped off by your grandfather. Is that what happened? >> Um yeah, he dropped us off and then I went into my mom's room and I told her that we basically like went to her dad's house or my grandpa's house for like a couple hours and she got mad and she screamed at me and she said that if I wanted to leave the house I could leave and that she's kicking me out. And I said, "Okay." And then she wouldn't let me grab any of my belongings. And then when I tried to walk out with my phone, she took she tried to grab my phone. I told her she doesn't have the right to grab my phone because she was drunk when she made that decision. And she choked me until I gave it to her. >> Where were you at when she choked me? >> On the [music] patio. Okay. How did she choke you? >> She went like this and she wouldn't let go until I gave her my phone. >> Were you able to breathe during that time? No. Did you pass [music] out? Black out. You did. You said you did or didn't pass out? >> Um, I almost did. I had I fell on the floor. I I was still conscious, but I fell on the floor. >> Okay, you are. Let me see your neck again. >> All right, give me move your hair on this side. >> Give me uh one second. Let me grab a paper. Okay, uh spell your first name for me. The officer reined the girl in yellow and in doing so uncovered even more heartbreaking details. All the while, her mother's non-stop ranting in the background spoke volumes [music] about her true character. >> So, what happened >> when you um grandpa dropped you off? What happened after? >> After grandpa dropped us off? >> Yeah. >> Um well, we walked up to our house and our mom was still drunk or whatever and she still is, but she was sleeping and we woke her up and we told her what happened and that we were over there for about 3 hours. >> [snorts] >> And then she got all mad at us. She was like, "You're throwing me under the bus." Blah blah blah blah. And then she said something about she's going to kill the dog. And then she got all mad and she ripped all um all of my sister's LED lights off the wall. >> And then she took my sister's phone. And while she was taking my sister's phone, they were on the porch. And [snorts] my sister wouldn't give it up. So my mom decided to choke her until she like couldn't breathe. So then she would give it up and I was standing up for my sister and she kept slapping me. >> Okay. Where' she when she slap you? >> Um when >> where? >> On my nose in my face. >> Okay. Turn >> did she slap you on that side of your face? On this side? >> Um it was probably like on both. I don't really know. >> What's your first name? >> [music] >> and >> 6016. And grandpa, can I get your uh first name? >> At this point, backup had arrived, allowing the officer to [music] turn his attention back to the unruly woman, hoping against hope that perhaps she would be more cooperative this time. >> You want to speak of back on the porch? >> No, he doesn't call my husband. >> Okay. Well, >> my legal husband. So, my husband has rights before my dad. >> Okay. >> Mhm. So, >> no, I don't need to go on the porch. I'm waiting for him to get off the phone with my husband. >> Okay. >> We're still married. >> We've been married for 15 years. >> So, >> so what happened when um your daughters got back home? They they left there at the grandfather, then they came back. What happened? >> I don't know why the they went to him at all because they don't. The only reason they went is because they wanted the money for their birthday. >> So, um when they came back, what happened? >> Nothing. They told me what happened. They told me, "Hey, I walked all the way there. Pop up to this." It's not the right reason for a kid to go and see a grandparent. It's not the only reason that this is actually the only reason they see him. >> Okay. Um, did you get into an argument with them when you came back? When they got back here? >> When I No. No. Not an argument. A com like a conversation. Yes. What happened during that conversation? What was it about? >> Nothing. I sat on my bed. They sat in the chair. There were calendars in my room. And um I asked them why they had to go to Pope just to get money. It's not right. I'm not that kind of person. >> Okay. >> I'm not >> um >> I don't want my kids to think that they need to go to see my dad. My dad >> just for money. That's wrong. >> Was there some sort of physical altercation that took place? >> No. Nothing physical, just you talking to your kids. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> All right, let me uh grab some information from you. >> Um sir, my husband, what's his name? He's on his way. >> Well, he's in another state. You're aware of this, right? So, >> I do know he lives in the Carolinas. Yes. >> Yeah. So, >> it takes 8 hours to get here. >> Get down here. >> I would rather my husband take my kids as opposed to my dad. >> My dad's a country. >> What's your first name? >> Rosanna. R O S A N A. >> What's your middle initial? What did you Wait, what? What she say? What she say? >> Hold on. She They're talking about something else. >> What? >> What's a good phone number for you? >> I didn't hear what a good phone number said. >> My dad has a >> No, >> I don't know what it is. What's What's a good phone number for you? >> J, shut up. some money pet for my kids. This way he's doing this way he's doing. >> And you you live here at this address. >> Um there's a Miranda law and he had a warrant but he doesn't anymore. I took that felony for him. >> Just hang out right here. >> That was over 6 years ago. >> Give me a few minutes. Why do you want my kids? Why do you want my kids? >> Hey, just hold on. >> No. Why do you want my kids? >> I'll talk to you down here. >> The officers regrouped, considering the best way to handle the situation. They reviewed nearly every possible scenario and asked the girls and their grandpa for more details, uncovering even more unspeakable facts from the past. >> You said you see a bruise on her. >> Could y'all step over here for me? Both of you. if you could um just move your hair for me. See right there on that side. >> And then you turn that way or Chevy for you. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. What's What's that mark there? It's right there. It's been there for a little while, but this morning she was slapping me all around my face. And then she said if I didn't hit her, then she would hit me more. And then I was standing up for my sister this afternoon and she hit me more on my nose. >> Okay, give us a few seconds. >> I can just get pictures of both of you. If you could turn that way, I'll take a picture of Joshua >> and then I can get you to come over here. >> Look up to that way. Okay. >> Is there any way that you could get my phone back? She has it. >> I can't. If it's your mom, I can't get the phone back. So, as everything that leads up to her taking your phone from you, >> there's nothing we can do cuz you guys are juveniles, obviously. Um, but going to the extreme of choking you, that's a different story. So, I'll talk with grandpa real fast. >> Yes, sir. I was going to say uh I've been for about six years. >> Is she always um neighbor >> pretty much and they moved from they lived well they lived at my house for a year and a half. No rent, nothing. >> All of them. >> All three of them. Yeah. And I lived here with my girlfriend. >> Okay. And then they helped them move back to North Carolina >> and they moved in with the Mark's parents and after about 3 months they threw them out and they were living in a hotel >> and I gave him the [music] money to come back down here and then they moved in here and >> but she's got a felony on her record too because that guy there he got caught I don't know >> five six years ago down in Lake County >> if they're using the did her side of it. They arrested both of them >> and then >> they came back. She came back here, but then she moved to Tahoe with some guy. She got pregnant out there. She came back here, had an abortion. She's done had two abortion. Now she just yelled out, "Well, I don't care about you girls anyways cuz I got twins. I'm caring cuz I'm pregnant." So, she probably is pregnant again. >> Okay. I got her a job at Paul Davis Restoration cuz I own Slim Construction. I'm construction guy. I got a job at Paul David Restoration. It lasted about 3 months. She liked to party, go out, run around, whatever. She lost that job. I got her a job with Suncool down in Lady down in Lady Lake. It lasted about a month. >> She had a job before that with the Bank of America as a bank manager. And I've been telling her and telling her, "Rosie, you got to change [music] your life. These girls ain't living the right kind of life." >> And she doesn't like it because I'm writing them. >> Yeah. >> You know, and I didn't come to them. They came to me. Yeah. for her to say, "Well, I just want to, you know, last time when when she went to Carolina's, they put her in a psych ward. >> Her own that guy called the cops on her, >> married 5983. >> I had to go up there, kind of get her out of there to bring her back here >> to reestablish her here." >> And that's when she moved into my house and everything was good for about a year, year and a half, and then she started all this stuff again. >> Yeah. Um, unfortunate part is, you know, she she may be looking at 1046. That's where we're at with it. Um, >> well, when when when they called me to come back and get them this time, she was on the phone with me and she's telling me that the Jada Jada's uh her exact words was, "You come get these kids. I don't want these kids." This, that, and the other. But now she's saying the other way about it. >> He has no living quarters for them. And >> like I said, I know he's got a warrant for them in Lady Lake County. Um, so where uh give me a second line up at bumpers. I don't know. >> The officers posed another carefully [music] framed question and it led to yet another cruel detail about life with this deeply toxic mother. A revelation that eventually sealed her fate. Sheriff's department. She called me cussing me out. Why'd you put me out? I let her stay tonight. I let her wait until the judge try and teach her a lesson. She >> about it was >> okay. Uh, give me give me a few seconds. >> Yeah, I can I take my granddaughter. >> Have you ever um have they ever disclosed to you any other time that they have ever battered by her? Have I >> have they ever disclosed to you? >> Yeah, they told me that today the first time. >> Okay. All right. So, cuz you probably do. Okay. Do y'all want to uh hang out in the car for a second? In the car? >> Yeah. Hello security. Oh my god. >> Vehicles going to be approaching the animal shelter on baseline northbound. Hey, sorry. Try not to fall. 24 area. >> She's coming up. She coming up the dog. >> Wait. >> Stay. >> Wait. I just wanted to ask you again. Um, >> what? So, what happened when they when they came when they showed up here? >> CJ, you're on speaker. Okay, I'm listening. You hear me? What? I'm sorry. >> What happened again when they came here >> from your >> My kids have full custody of them. I don't understand what's going on. >> Well, we just want to know if there was a physical altercation that happened when you when they got here with you. >> No. >> Did you guys um >> No, there's no physical altercation. I don't touch my kids. My dad used to do this to me. I will never be that. >> Wa wa wa. What? What? What? Hold on. Wait. What? No. No. No. No. No. No. Why are you doing this? No. No. No. I have pets. Why are you putting me in cops right now? Why are you putting me in cuffs, sir? I want >> Why are you putting me in cuffs? >> I'm going to read your mors. >> Why? What did I do? >> I'll tell you. Just give me a second. >> Now faced with the [music] reality of her heinous acts. Her true nature started to emerge. The officers were now beginning to see why [music] they are to be called in the first place. >> Do you understand his rights? I explained to you. >> No, I don't know why I'm in cuffs right now. What did I do? >> Do you understand the right side? I just explained to you. Yeah. >> Well, I'm going to read them to you again. Okay. >> I can call my letter. >> You're requesting the lawyer. Is that what you said? >> Hey, it's D4. >> What did I do? >> I'm at home. I didn't touch. >> My dad paid you. >> But you will be >> My dad paid for >> what? >> Are you? >> I just said no. I just said I did not touch my face. >> Okay. >> Are you kidding me? >> Let's go. >> Really? >> Let's go. >> Really? >> Yes. You're serious. >> You all you would never I don't touch my head. Are you kidding me? He used to hit me. >> Why is this? >> I never take seat for >> Kick your feet in. >> Kick your feet in. >> No, this is wrong. >> Kick your feet in. like elder abuse if you put my foot in. >> Are you elder? >> I'm 35. >> Not really. >> Why are you doing this to me? >> Go and kick your feet in for me. >> He used to hit me. Go >> and kick your feet in here. He's going to pull you in on the other side. >> This is He's taking my kid for the ride. >> You putting the feet in? All right. Come on. In the end, she was charged with Asild as the earlier case seemed, it pald in comparison to this severely intoxicated mother of two. He went berserk after being pulled over for driving under the influence with [music] precious company in the car. >> Your kiddos in the back? >> Yes. >> Okay. Your eyes are a little glassy. I'm worried that you're okay to drive cuz what I saw was dangerous. I just want to make sure we're good. >> Hate my life. Take me to jail. >> You do whatever you want with these kids. Whoa, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, RELAX, RELAX. >> On September the 29th, 2024, at around 8:20 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving [music] erratically. Behind the wheel was a reckless, irresponsible driver with clueless little [music] passengers fast asleep. >> Good evening. How are you? >> Hi. It would be better if he didn't have such bright lights on me. >> I understand that. Do you have your driver's license insurance on you? >> I got to find that. And I was talking to my husband who doesn't help me out with anything. >> Okay. about >> life. >> Oh, I got you. Oh, you you're on the phone. >> I was on the phone. >> Okay. Are these your kiddos in the back? >> Yes. >> I got two of them. >> Oh, they're they're sleeping. We don't have to roll the window down. I was just curious. >> I actually have the thing saved. >> Okay. >> Do you know why I stopped you tonight? >> No. Uh well, so first thing you turned left on a red arrow there at 14 and 47 and then you were all over the road. You crossed the yellow line. You were almost in the ditch with the whole truck. Then you came back in and out. You're riding the grass. >> Yeah. I'm sorry. I was I multitask on a regular basis. >> Okay. After the formalities, the officer raised the tempo and asked a direct question. Her answer was going to set the stage for a very long evening. >> Let me ask you a question. Have you had any alcohol that you drink tonight? >> Nope. >> Any of any kind? >> No. >> Okay. What's got you what's got you driving like that? >> Uh, well, I have two kids that are just constantly uh on vacation, always asking me for things. >> Sure. >> Okay. Did you Did you realize that you were all the way over the shoulder in the grass driving down Route 14 at any point? >> Uh, yeah. >> You did? >> Yeah. Okay. How'd that happen? >> Trying to navigate my two toddlers. >> Okay. What were you doing that with your two toddlers that got you off the road multiple times? >> Uh thinking of trying to find um [music] their tablets. >> Okay. Okay. Um do you usually have motor skill issues? I noticed you dropped a couple of things while you were talking to me. I'm just worried that we're okay to make it home while we got two kids in the back of the car. >> I promise you I will be perfect. >> You're fine. Okay, >> I'll be good. >> Okay. Um, did you know that you turn left on a red arrow? >> I thought I made it just in time. >> It was pretty solid red when we went through, but um but you recognize that it was red at some point. I got you. Okay. Um All right. Give me one second. I'll be right back with you. Okay. All right, Mr. Oh, what'd you get there? >> I just I put my ring on last night that was too tight. >> Oh, is it swollen? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, let me ask you, are you particularly tired or anything right now? >> I'm always tired. >> Okay. Um, cuz like I said with with what I noticed the the driving seems like you got some motor skill issues. Okay. Your eyes are a little glassy. I'm worried that you're okay to drive cuz what I saw was dangerous. I just want to make sure we're good. But so you more tired than in particular [clears throat] today? >> I am. >> Okay. Okay. >> I if you want to follow me to where I'm going, I'd be happy to. That'd be >> Sure. Sure. First thing first thing I want to do is just make sure that we're able to get there cuz from what I just saw, I don't think you are able to get there. Um so I have you do real quick um is called a finger dexterity test. I'm going to demonstrate it for you and then I'll have you complete it. Wait till I'm done with the instructions. But what you're going to do is you're going to touch your thumb to the tip of each finger and you're going to count out loud 1 to 4. And then you're going to go backwards and you're going to do the test twice. 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1. So when I tell you to start, I want you to touch your thumb to the tip of each finger and then count the number out loud each time forward and backwards [music] twice. Do you have any questions about that test as I've explained it to you so far? >> Nope. >> Okay, you can begin. 1 2 3 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 >> Okay, the officer wasn't ready to let it go. With innocent children asleep in the backseat of a car steered by an unfit mother, the situation demanded more. And what followed grew even more serious. Um. >> 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1. All right. All right. Um, so hope you real uh were you were you texting on the phone or talking on the phone? You said you were something with your husband or >> I don't know. I >> gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. Um, what I want you to do is if you can step out of the vehicle for me and come talk to me back here real quick. Okay. All right. Then just right here so we're out of traffic and we're safe. Okay. All right. Um, so you haven't had any alcohol tonight? No medications? Nothing like that? >> Okay. Um, [music] right now it seems that you are impaired. Okay. Uh, and I just I want to make sure we make it home. Okay. Especially with the kids in the back there. They're your kids, right? Son and daughter. Okay. Um and then you were get you were leaving the Madison house going to check on the horses right now? >> Yep. >> Okay. Okay. Um All right. So, I want to run you through a couple of tests. I just want to make sure you make it home. I'm worried about you and the kids. Okay. Once we get done with that, we can be on our way. Sound good? All right. All right, Miss Dirks. The first thing I want to test is your eyes. Okay. I'm going to give you some simple instructions. While I do that, can I have you stand with your feet together and your hands at your side and just remain in this position while I give you [music] the rest of the instructions? Do you understand that so far? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. So, what I want you to do is with your eyes and your eyes only, I want you to follow the tip of this pen here. Okay. With your eyes and your eyes only, okay, keep your head still for me. She was subjected [music] to more field sobriety tests. To her credit, she gave it her best, but her best produced results that sent the evening spiraling even further. >> All right, Miss Dirks, at this point, it does appear that you're impaired by something. You're telling me you haven't had any alcohol tonight? No. >> Okay. Well, from what I've seen, you are you are too impaired to drive. Okay. Um, that being said, you have two small children in the car with you. Okay. Is there somebody who can drive them home safely? cuz at this point I don't think you're capable of doing that. >> You >> I can't do that. No, I don't have car seats. Um your husband, is that a possibility? >> Are you going to take me to jail? >> Yes. At this point, you were driving under the influence. I've determined that you were too impaired to drive. Um and you definitely can't be driving with the kids. uh not to jail, to the police department and back home. But in the meantime, is there somebody who can watch your children? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. Is uh for your phone in the car? Hold on. Hold on. >> Mind if we grab it so you don't >> just cuz of traffic. >> Is that okay? >> Go ahead. >> Thank you. >> Is he close by? Do you know? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> This will just um make my divorce go quicker. Is there anything illegal in the car right now? No open alcohol or anything? >> No, you can talk to him. >> No. >> Okay. >> Not uh >> Hi, this is Officer Gmer with the Woodstock Police Department. I'm here with Miss Dirks. >> Yes. >> Um so we are currently [music] at Route 14 between 47 and Dean. Um are these your children that are with her? >> It's on Bluetooth. >> Oh, can can you hear me now, sir? It hooked up to the Bluetooth. Okay. Okay. Um uh so I'm asking I'm at 14 between Dean and 47 with Miss Dirks. Are these your children that are with her? Um, is there a chance that you could come pick them up? >> Okay, that that's fine. The phone call brought a measure of safety, but they also unleashed an even greater wave of chaos, perhaps fueled by her inebriated state or by factors known only to her. And now, on a September evening, under the glare of headlights, the officers were about [music] to witness what madness truly looked like. >> All right, here's your phone, babe. I don't want my mother's help. >> I mean, you asked me to call him and that's that's who's coming. So, >> Oh. Oh, no. >> Well, you don't really have a choice in that right now. Why can't No, you're you're a mother. Yeah. Right. You don't you don't want that? >> Absolutely not. >> Why is that? >> Because they all judge me for everything I do and I take care of everybody. >> Okay. I'm just looking for somebody responsible who can grab your kids and take >> a He said the dad and he can't come get them. >> I I don't know why. I mean, is he at work? Is he going to drink? >> No. >> I I don't know. I don't know >> what you're sending my mom over here. hate my life. Take me to jail. You do whatever you want with these kids. I don't relax. Relax. Stop. You don't want to see YOUR >> NO, I don't. You don't have to do that. I am not. Don't. You don't have to do that. >> Yeah, you're under arrest. >> You don't have to do that. >> Okay, let's go back to your children. Don't see this. Okay, >> you don't have to do that. >> I do cuz you're under arrest and you're being belligerent and you've almost run into traffic three times. So, let's act right while your daughter is watching you bleed. >> I don't want to do this to [music] your kids. So, please act right. >> Thank you. >> Don't make me do this to them. Gotcha. >> Do you have anything illegal on you right now? Any weapons of any kind? >> You can look at me. >> I I I will. I'm just asking you for my safety [music] precautionary. Okay. Thank you. No needles, no knives. Okay. You have a wallet or something in the car you want. >> Mark. >> Okay, we're going to go in the rear of this car. Okay. >> Can you undo this before my mom comes? >> No, I can't undo it till we get to the police department. She won't even see you. >> All right. So, let's go to the car, please. >> Um, I need to get my wallet. >> I'll get it for you. >> Have a seat. >> In the end, she was charged with a DUI and two counts of endangerment. The next reckless parent took it a step further by locking a little one inside a car packed with various controlled substances. >> Okay. So, you don't understand why you're going to jail? I'm assuming it's because I left her in the car. >> So, what were those all the pills? Why' you What are those? >> I'm 35. I work with a lot of dealers. >> Look like candy. Kids would think that's candy. What would have gotten that and ate what she thought was uh candy and then OD >> on June the 6th, 2024, officers responded to a call about a child left inside a vehicle at a local shopping center. When police arrived and confronted the mother, the encounter revealed even more disturbing details about this awful human being. >> I'll get them come over here and talk to you. 305 455 the parking ticket red. >> I'm confused. >> She She doesn't understand why she's going to jail. Can you explain that to her? >> Okay. So, you don't understand why you're going to jail? I'm assuming it's because I left her in the car. >> You're assuming. So you think it's >> I know it's because I left >> Okay. So you think it's a >> running and you run inside to a store to get a ring? >> No. >> Okay. That's That's child. You were gone for over 15 minutes. >> She He said that the woman said I was gone for over 15. >> There's multiple people stating you were. >> Well, there's multiple people stating that I was. So that that's that's the reason unattended in a vehicle you shouldn't do it for five minutes let alone 15 16 minutes you understand do you understand now okay so that that's why ma'am >> ma'am you got anybody in Lake City like we can get her >> coming >> like we we can get her to to somebody if you got somebody in Lake City we can take her >> he's coming he lives in Lake Butler He's right up. He was headed home. He's my boyfriend. He knows her. She knows him. He's on his way now. >> But dad send about him. >> Okay. So, this is going to be the issue. >> He was >> Dad wants you to go hear me out. Look at me. Dad wants her to go with somebody you don't approve of. >> No, I don't approve. She just got out of prison. >> Okay. >> You like the rest? You want her to go with somebody that dad's not approved of? >> Cuz he doesn't he doesn't know I'm seeing somebody. >> Okay. So, how can we find a happy medium? >> He can't He can't take her to my mom. He >> Where where does mom live at? >> In my boat. That's where we live. He knows where I live. He He knows exactly where I stay. Even if somebody follow My daughters are out there with my mom. [music] >> Is he on a birth certificate? >> Yes. Then the paternity has been established. He paid child support. >> No, he does not pay child support. >> Has paternity been established? >> No. >> And you guys never been married? >> Never. >> Never. He was there to sign. He wasn't even there for her birth. He was there to sign the birth certificate. >> Mike, just for clarification, there has no his name is on a birth certificate, but there has been no paternity established. >> Okay. me. I take care of her. Only thing he does is pay her dayare bill. Daycare bill. That's it. >> But there's no legal documents stating that he is the dad. >> Just a birth certificate. >> And you guys were never married? >> Never. I I'm divorced from my ex in North Carolina. I still have his last name. >> This man spends more time with her than her daddy does. >> She'll tell you why. She'll tell you who he is. Why did the dad hit her on the weekends? >> You do out of the goodness out of your heart. >> I let He gets all of his kids on the weekend. >> All of them. Every last 12 of them. He gets them all >> and they all hang out and I get her on Sunday. >> Yeah. >> He picks her up on Friday, but in this case, he'll get her on Saturday. >> I think the only reason we even called the dad to get someone to come is cuz she had no time to put me in anybody else. So, she's got somebody else. She'd rather come get the kids. Well, I mean, I I I I get that, but my what I want to verify is even though he's on a birth certificate, does that establish paternity? >> I mean, >> if he's on the birth certificate, I think we're we're safe releasing him, but we're not even releasing it to him. We're releasing like his mother-in-law. >> No, she don't want his ex-wife. >> His ex-wife is coming who is a felon and she don't want her to go. >> He's got out of prison not even too much to go. >> Okay, then find somebody else. >> He's coming. >> He's coming. But my my question would do we have to okay it through dad that's why I want to establish the paternity >> even even if dad had paternity if it's not his weekend like per se was so overweight. >> Fine. Yep. Yep. At least we could do that for you. I mean >> I've never been in trouble man. >> It's it's it's an unfortunate situation and as bad as it is >> I don't ever leave. >> Could have been worse. >> No excuse she [music] could offer would ever justify what she had done. The officers allowed her to rant, but their suspicions only deepened because no [music] sane person would commit such an act. >> That long I didn't realize it was it was longer than 15 minutes. >> Somebody could have got her in 5 minutes. Ma'am, that that >> that's not an excuse. You're right. You're right. >> Please scare me. Joe scares me. I've I've never This is the first time I've got five kids. >> First time anything like this ever happened to me. >> Just got off work. I've been at work since 4:45 this morning. >> Going right over here. All right. >> Soon, one [music] of the officers searched through her belongings, uncovering disturbing details about her and about what had been inside the vehicle with the child all along. What's that other 27? An old one. It's not a regular vape. 1345 just one week. I told you he didn't mention that she had already taken them. She wrote down there. I don't want her have this stuff. Yes, sir. The other stuff. >> All right, Miss Hannah, I'm going to read you something. Okay. Uh, this is your Miranda warnings. You have the right to remain silent. Having these rights in mind, do you want to talk to me? >> Okay. So, what were those all the pills? What you What are those? >> I'm 35. So, I used to >> I used to take pills for for energy. >> Okay. And that's what I would get them for to get me through the day. >> What are they? >> Um, from my understanding, jigs. >> She had just proven that age or even being a parent doesn't guarantee [music] responsibility. And as the officers asked more questions, it became even clearer that she might be one of the most awful people they have met yet. >> Beans. But with going around, that's why you found so many. I was scared to take them. >> Those are the colorful ones. >> Yes. >> Okay. What was in the little bag? That was powder. >> Yeah. >> From my understanding, it's powder, >> but I'm >> scared to take a lot of stuff nowadays than I did back then because I was younger back then. >> So, I forgot all that stuff was in there. >> You forgot all that stuff was in your purse? >> Yes. I I remember that I put my my my weed in there. You know, I'll smoke a blunt occasionally, but all that other stuff I really don't I take my B12 pill and that's about it. But I did I forgot I I forgot all that was in there. I'm sorry that that I don't have no other explanation. >> Where'd you get it from? >> Off the streets. Just off the streets. I mean, people random people that I work with. I work I work with a lot of dealers. You have homes of merit that you find anything there. But >> talk about the the wax. >> No, I haven't haven't asked that yet. >> My my what? My my um my bait. >> No, the little square squishy wax. It's a little square. Kind of looks like a throat Lawson. >> I got it for my dad. >> Okay. What is that? >> It helps me sleep. It's a gummy. >> Okay. >> It's a gummy. He has a medical card. So, we had an Easter egg hunt and I found the one with the gummy in it and that's why it's there. I don't >> that's why they're all still there. I don't take it like I I smoke. >> So, y'all had an Easter egg hunt and hid >> they my my dad >> gummies in them. >> Yeah. For for the adults, you know, it's for the adults, but more or less me and my sister Tiffany. So, we got ours and that's still there. I don't with my job every day. I can't be on I smoke my I go to work. I come home. That's it. But those all that has been in there for a while. >> Doesn't matter if it's been in there for 3 years or it's been in there for 30 seconds. It's in your possession. >> When you asked me, that's what I told you. Well, I have in there. That's why I told you. But with the other I did. I forgot about it being in there. I didn't take it out my purse. It It always stays in my purse. I don't never use my purse. I put my debit card in my back pocket, my phone in my other pocket, and I take my work. >> So, so let me hit you with this. And [snorts] thankfully, this didn't happen. But you go in, your purse is in the car >> cuz you don't take it inside with you. That thing look like candy. Kids would think that's candy. would have gotten that and ate what she thought was uh candy and then OD and instead of somebody else finding her in the vehicle by herself, you come out and find her deceased. She could have ODed off the ecstasy. She could have ODed off the coat. She could have ODed off the gummy. >> None of that was secure. >> 1345. >> Reminds me of our subject again. All right. >> So, obviously on top of the uh shot, you're going to get charged with all the other with all the >> Yeah. You'll be charging >> the name of our >> the paraphernalia as well as you're going to be receiving a criminal citation for using a handicap placer that's not yours. >> Gabriel Timberlin. >> In the end, she was charged with multiple counts of possession and endangerment. Yet another chilling case involved a mother clinically diagnosed as psychotic. Medication was the only thing [music] keeping her grounded, and without it, she spiraled fast and dangerously. >> On May the 11th, 2021, officers were dispatched to a residence following a report about a woman acting weirdly after taking her. The officers arrived at the residence and were met by Loretta's son, who explained the situation and the state at which his mother was. >> Hey bud, how are you? >> If it ain't the best, how you been? >> Same old. Same old. How you been? >> Better nights. >> What's So what's going on? >> So her mom's been clinically claimed as a psychotic. I just I just needed a little bunch of my medicine. I just needed a little piece of quiet. You know, me I really >> Okay. All right. >> The officers [music] carefully observed her unstable reaction, suspecting that Betta had ingested more than her prescribed. Minutes later, the [music] officers confirmed their suspicions when she began to hallucinate, revealing she had indeed taken far more than she was prescribed. >> Well, how about how about we go outside and get some fresh air and and talk. All right. And and then I'll get out of your hair here in a second. Okay. >> You can't get me, are you? >> No, I'm not taking you. I mean, >> I have no reason to take you. I just get outside, get some fresh air. The main reason is cigarette smoke kind of bothers me. So, if we're outside, it kind of makes me feel a little better. >> So, You all right? I didn't care if you smoked it. I just don't want to be stuck in the house breathing it. >> Let me Loretta. >> I'm not trying to tell you business, okay? But listen, I've been doing this for 21 years, okay? All right. [snorts] >> I I believe you probably taken something on top of your prescribed medic and listen to me. >> I'm [snorts] not here to to bust you for it or anything like that, >> but [music] I got here. >> Okay. But >> it it will explain why you're acting the way you are. Okay. [clears throat] >> The officers then decide to ask her about it, and she initially hesitated, but later cooperated. I know. I had it today. I'm going to have this week, but not today. Okay. I did this week and I usually don't like I never quit doing. >> I understand. Okay. Listen. I just want to lay. >> But you got to understand their concern like you you they've [snorts] probably seen this before. you you have a history of it and you know you've relapsed and it happens. All right. It's not the end of the world. All right. My only concern is that you don't want to hurt yourself. You don't want to hurt anyone else. >> Okay. Um [laughter] >> that's a long story. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> I Loretta, [snorts] I'd be more than happy if you if you want to go to the hospital and get checked. We can make that arrangements. you're not you're you you're not going [snorts] to go to jail. You're not in any trouble. I just want to make sure I get the right help for you. Okay. >> And if you're having adverse effects from using, they can help with that. Okay. >> They can help calm you and take care of you. >> All [snorts] right. >> Yeah. >> Um is that something you'd want to >> No, I mean I'm all right. I'll be all right. I'm trying to upset me worse because when she you got upset and crying. Well, you got you got to understand that this upsets them. You know, that's your daughter, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. See, and then just things stressors just made you go back. >> Well, only had that really problem. I had like little or so. >> Okay. >> Well, I mean, the the purity of it can affect you differently. >> I'm right this morning and thought maybe something was wrong with me. You know what I mean? But but it wasn't. I mean, I was in the bathroom toilet. What was I sitting on toilet and she got she got upset. Mhm. >> I just told I'm I'm fine. I took my medicine, but I don't take them. All right. I appreciate [snorts] your cooperation. I'm going to take that consideration. All right. You don't have to get in the car. What I want you to do is just stand in front of it and for me. Okay. So, I need to make sure I get this secure. Okay. [snorts] >> Come on. >> It's just for you. I >> You can leave those in there. >> You're not good. >> I sure. >> I don't know. No, you're not going to >> They're not going to I'm not going to take you to jail for a straw. >> Let's just go out. Let's go outside so I can get this secured. Just when they thought she was being honest and [music] cooperative, Loretta decided to surprise them by throwing a tantrum. >> Loretta, >> let's go this way. Come on. >> Please. >> Come on. >> We're only going outside. Don't make this worse. >> Please. Please. >> God to me. >> Please don't resist your word, man. I don't think >> Stop. [laughter] >> Stop. Please. >> No. I was going to, but you would act silly. >> Oh my god. I've been busy about everything. Have >> a seat in there. Following her arrest, the officers briefed her relatives on the situation. The family revealed that she had been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder [music] and disclosed some shocking details about the habits that took the officers by surprise. Confronted with this information, Loretta, still heavily under the influence, confirmed the allegation. >> Hey, Loretta. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, are are you snorting your prescribing? >> Sometimes. >> Sometimes. Okay. >> And then you use the one straw that was on the plate to uh >> driver. >> I'm going to read this to you real quick and then you ever been read your rights before? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, I mean, do you typically always snort your >> Okay. Did you snort any today? >> No. All right. >> Now, these are I forgot all about those. I swear on I thought me up or something. I was like, "What did you do that?" >> All right. Watch your knee there. In the end, Loretta was charged with resisting arrest and possession of paraphernalia. Up next is a father who abandoned his son in a hot locked car with a loaded firearm inside. >> So, you were just walking past the car. He was already out of the car. And what did he say to you after that? >> Can you please help me? I can't find my dad. >> He was in your car for a long time that he said 30 minutes. It's 80° outside right now in the iPad. >> I mean, what's the what's the problem? >> You left him in a car. >> You're likely going to be charged. >> These are the circumstances where he could have passed out car. On May the 25th, 2024, officers in Beachwood, Ohio, received a 911 call from a concerned lady, stating that she had witnessed a crying child locked inside a car in the parking lot of Beachwood Place Mall. For context, it was an extremely hot day outside with temperatures reaching up to 119° F. When officers arrived on the scene, they met with a few witnesses and quickly realized the culprit of the situation was one of the most irresponsible dads they would ever encounter. is blocking up >> and the [music] windows are down. >> I guess I'd have to run it by the prosecutor [music] or something. He must have gotten out or something. >> Yeah. Okay. >> He got out at 1412. >> I walked in about what time did you >> The first time >> just I mean pulled in [music] at 1412. >> Perfect. Okay. So I'm just going to run it by. So you were just walking past the car. He was already out of the car. And what did he say to you after? >> Can you please help me? I can't find my dad. >> Okay. >> And then I said, "How long have you been sitting in there?" And he was like, "Since noon." >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Just from the witness statements, the officers knew that the situation was far more messed up than they had initially anticipated. Right at that moment, they turned to the poor [music] innocent child, not realizing his negligent and obviously dumb father was lurking close by. But you were cold earlier. >> It was really hot in there, right? Maybe it's cold out. >> What's going on, man? >> Grab this. >> You got to grab what? >> I don't want to show in front of him. >> You what? >> I don't want to show in front of him. >> Okay, that that's fine. >> Here, buddy. You can sit down. >> This I can't have his mom mad at me with this type of thing going [music] on. >> They saw you get out of the car at 2:12. >> It is 3:30 right now. >> Listen, I'm not trying to explain what happens. I this >> instead of acknowledging the grave [music] mistake he made. The dad identified as Garfield Heights tried his best to deflect blame. Although he claims [music] that he was only away for about 30 minutes, evidence showed that he had locked his child in the vehicle for way longer than that. Fortunately, these officers were more of a parental figure to the young boy than the father himself. >> This is not a circumstance where we can make a decision like this. This is going through our bosses. We have to verify everything. You have first off, you have your ID. >> We have to contact mom. There's no choice. What's the What's the >> contact mom? I know you don't want to talk in front of your son. I get down. If Garfield had taken one moment to care [music] about his son's well-being, he wouldn't be in this predicament right now. Feels like every dumb parent who realized the consequences of their actions a little [music] too late. >> Hello. >> So, real quick, let me just explain to him what we know and then you'll be able to Okay, >> there's a white Infinity hatchback right there. You can see it's sticking out. That's where the child was. Okay. Um he got out of the car and just waved down a woman that was walking by. Said, "I'm looking for my dad.
