newspaper. You're being detained right now. I'll >> tell you a second. It's a lot >> and you're just kind of the dumb person. Don't know. Don't know anything. >> This is your chance to come clean, bro. I already cut you in enough lies. >> How many checks did you give me? Just one? >> Yeah, literally just one. >> Just one? >> Yeah, literally just one. >> He said you said he gave you chests. No, no. Cuz he gave me that check right there. He just gave you He literally gave me this for one >> and he drove you all the way down here for one check. >> Some teen scammers can stroll into a bank with enough confidence and charm to pull off their schemes. But the dumb ones among them often run out of luck, especially when clever bankers subtly keep them occupied until the police arrive. >> Her boyfriend I know initiated all of this. >> She said it was all your boyfriend that your boyfriend gave you the checks or whatever. >> No, it wasn't. He has nothing to do with it. Licked it up. >> This is ours. Yeah, that's ours. You're going to jail. >> You're deleting things. >> No, I'm not deleting anything. >> I just saw everything I need to sell. See, >> but I didn't delete anything. I was sitting here googling the boy's name. >> Here are seven moments when bankers tricked dumb teen scammers into waiting for the cops. First on this list of dumb teen scammers is 19-year-old Harry Berto Varela. He got tricked into waiting for cops after he tried to cash a stolen check. >> Let me talk. What's the person? >> Randy, what's your name? >> So, we cash it and give it the 5,000 something to him and then the rest of the into his debit card. On July the 1st, 2025, 19-year-old Harry Varela walked into a TD bank, convinced he had things under control. He had cashed a stolen $5,000 check the day before, so pulling off another $8,000 felt easy. But what he didn't realize was that his first win had already circulated his name and photo across multiple branches. So, while he thought he was about to level up his scam game, trouble was already closing in on him. We get an information. So actually the customer is not even so and you know and we give you the cash. Okay. But we give you the cash to you like $5,000 into the account and it was being recorded. So the car is being recorded right now at this point and you know this is not the signature on the thumb as well. >> So we want to know >> what's the person's name on it. >> Let me talk. What's the person's name? >> Randy John. >> What's your name? >> Yeah, that's your name. Stand up for me. >> We can go to the office there. >> Yeah, I'll talk to you. up to that. Want to do it? >> Yeah. So he went through opening over there. So they opening the camp on Saturday and then you can just check out. So this customer lives in Mexico and While he sat grinning mischievously, the officers quietly approached the banker who was about to expose the suspect's dumb strategy. >> So, it's a TD Bank check, so it's our customer. And he went to open an account into a branch to be able to cash the check for this amount. So, he knew that if he have a TD Bank check and he's not a customer, we're not going to cash it. >> Mhm. So he opened the account during the weekend. So come back on Monday to Lake Road location branch and since it's a TD bank check, we can verify the funds right away and cash it. So we cash it and give it the 5,000 something to him and then the rest deposit into his debit card. >> So he took out >> Yeah. >> withdrew 5,000. >> He withdraw the 5,000 >> from the from this account. >> Okay. What's your position here? >> I'm the store supervisor. So they reported his account because they already knew that he they stolen his information from his account. >> Okay. And and what was the location that he got the money from? >> Like what road is this one? >> After listening to the banker, they turned to question the suspect. But before they asked him any questions, there was something important they had to do first. That's step on there. Place the trunk on the car. Put your feet. Hey, what's up, dude? So, I'm Detective Okconor. Um, clearly you're under arrest. So, I'm going to read you your rights, okay? And then I'm gonna talk to you about a few things and we'll take you back to the district where there's air conditioning and you know all that jazz. So I'm required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Any statement canon will be used against you in a court of law. >> If he has your phone, we can get it. I promise. >> Phone numbers I got to take down. >> What's that? >> Some phone numbers I wanted to take down. >> Okay. Yeah, we can get it. He's not going to be far away. We can call him. We know who he was. I know the guy kind of. All right. Listen. So, quick question. What? That black car. Is that the car you came in? >> Yeah, >> it is. Okay. Whose car is that? >> Grandma's car. >> Your grandma's car. Where's the keys at? >> They took it. >> Who took it? >> I had two in that car, too. >> The deputy has the keys, as far as I know. >> You had the keys on you, though? >> Yeah. >> Was somebody else in the car? >> What? >> Was somebody else in the car with you when you came here? >> No. >> No. Okay. So, you got out and you walked in, you had the keys on you, and when you got arrested, you had the keys on you. >> I just got to find the keys. He took my phone, my wallet, the keys. That's all. >> Okay. Well, we'll we'll get all that. Um, your grandma know you have your car? Her car? >> Yeah. >> You live with her? >> All right. >> Cuz I'd rather your grandma be able to come get it than I? >> Yeah. >> I don't think my grandma, >> my grandma, she's been there half blind. >> She's what? >> Like half blind is what? >> Half blind. Do you have any other like adults in the house? >> Like with your grandma? I can't have anybody but the registered owner, but maybe your grandma can come with brother or you know what I mean? >> Okay, I'll call her in just a minute. Um, have a seat in the car for me and then we'll find out where your phone and keys and everything are. So, um, you know what you're doing here? >> What? >> Like, do you know why you're arrested? No. >> What's that? Nobody told you? All right. So, this is about a check from yesterday. The check that you cashed yesterday at the other bank. You know what I'm talking about? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What? Which bank was that? That was the one on Lakeworth Road. The TD. How old are you? >> 19. >> 19. >> You don't know where you cash a check. >> You got a job? >> No. >> Huh? >> I don't know. >> No. You go to school? >> Just got out. >> Just got out. Graduated high school. >> No, I graduated high school like two years ago. >> So, what school were you at? >> CEO of trucking. >> Oh, truck driving. You got any criminal history? Never been arrested before. It's brand new, huh? All right. It's that money you got yesterday. That five grand. What'd you do with it? Where's it at? >> Huh? >> Talk to one lawyer. >> All right. >> When they realized he wasn't willing to talk any further, they shifted their focus to his vehicle, hoping for clues. But nothing prepared them for the evidence that they were about to uncover. >> Yeah. There's a firearm in the commission of a felony. Yep. >> He is not even a little bit of victim anymore. >> Can I prove the firearm? >> Can I prove the firearm? >> Uh, right now I wouldn't do it. It's just later on. Yeah, >> I would do the DNA for it. >> Mhm. >> And then just have them add it on. >> After grabbing everything they could from his car, they headed over to his house. But the reaction they got from his mother made one thing clear. An apple really doesn't fall far from the tree. >> No, they're not because I this is my property. I don't want nobody in my property to license that warrant. This is my house. I own this house. This is in my name. I don't want anyone in my house without my permission. Listen, >> that's my right and my god-given right in the law. I didn't give nobody's permission to be in my home. This is my >> Can I speak? >> Yes. But if there's someone in the home, I don't want them in the home. >> Okay. So, let let me let me >> Is there an officer in the home? >> With your mother. >> With your mother. >> I need them out of my home. I don't give anyone permission to be in my house. >> Ma'am, your your your mother your mother was in a room. >> Your mother is not the owner of this resident. I am. They rent this property for me. I am the owner. You You are not the owner. They're in control. >> I'm the owner. My name is You are not in control. >> Do you need to see that? >> I do not need to see that. >> I'm the owner of this residence. >> I don't care. I don't need to see that. >> So, at this point, >> I need a sergeant or I am the sergeant. >> There he is. >> I'm the owner of this property. >> If you let me talk, if you let me talk, I can explain it to you. Okay. >> Next thing, if you continue your attitude, I'm going to tell you to get into your expedition and you're going to leave and I'm not going to tell you anything. >> This property, >> I do not care. >> Literally own it. I have the >> do not care. When you're ready for me to talk, I will talk. >> I'm listening. >> Okay. So, we are doing a good thing for your mother. Your mother is in a in a t-shirt. We walked her in so she could put a dress on so that her husband can take her out to dinner. We are securing this place. We are writing a search. We are writing a search warrant. Once the search warrant gets approved, we are going to go in and then we're going to search it. >> Your your son is in in custody right now. Okay. >> Okay. >> For a case. >> Okay. >> That's what led us here. >> So, take all your frustration out on your son, not on us on him. I just asked if there if my house is being searched by permission. >> We are not searching your house right now. We are literally just standing by to let your mom grab clothes. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Cuz my mother called for so I don't know what's happening. >> That's it. So, if you want to hang out, you're more than welcome. >> I will. But you could see I'm in pajamas. I can't. My mother calls me. I come running for my mother. >> But nobody's allowed inside the house. >> I'm running for my mother. >> Nobody's going to be allowed inside the house until we get the search warrant. >> And what is my son under arrest for? >> He's an adult. >> So, it's an ongoing investigation. You see, there comes your mother with her clothing. >> And where's my mother's vehicle? >> We're probably going to tow it. >> No, I'm just asking cuz that's my mother's >> As soon as we get the tow information, we'll let you know. >> Okay. >> Uh uh Okconor, >> these were the the brothers. I don't know if they you need to talk to them or >> uh who's who? >> Wait, what do you need? >> You have nothing to say without a lawyer present. >> You have nothing. That's it. You have nothing to say without a lawyer present. Period. >> Amazing. >> Do you have an attorney? Uh does he have an attorney already? >> I don't know anything about charges. I don't know what >> we can't talk to. I So we can't talk to them. So So we're asking if you have an attorney. Could you >> as of yet? >> Okay. All right. And so whenever you guys get the attorney, because if it goes that way, then if you can provide it to us. >> Okay. >> And then what you guys can do if you guys want to start heading over to your expedition, you're not going to be allowed in front of the the on the premises until we get the search warrant. Okay. >> We're off on the premises. Right here is the line. >> You guys can post up there. That's fine. >> No problem. I appreciate it. Thank you for your cooperation. >> Unfortunately, we were trying to determine who lives here, but you are turning him up, so we can't ask him. the questions we're going to be asked if he resides here and if he says he lives here and it could incriminate him because we find something there that we're looking for and it's got his name on it. >> So that must be the brother we were wanting to know about. >> Yeah. >> Thank you for the answer. >> Well, no one >> you answered it. Thank you. >> No one answer. >> No problem, sir. You said they they rent the place for me, right? >> And that's under me. They don't It >> doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. They're the occupants. They're the occupants. They're the occupants of the residence. >> The only other option you have, ma'am, right? Now, is call an attorney and have them try to intervene. They're going to get served with the warrant. They'll get a copy of the warrant. >> My law. I'm the one that knows the property. >> Obviously, you don't know the law. >> Sorry. >> Not what they're You have to listen to what he's telling them. >> You're not You're not It's like if you're on a property, right, >> and your landlord comes over there and what the police say, "Yeah, go ahead and go inside." And you're like, "But I'm renting it. This is my house. You can't come in." He's like, "No, I own it. You go inside." >> You see what? You see the conflict? >> The officers kept talking to her and just when they thought that they had the upper hand, she tried to pull a fast one on him. >> If you told us right now, I own the house. Go search it. We tell you no because you don't occupy it. They occupy it. We're getting a search warrant because they told us your son doesn't want anybody in his room. Therefore, they were going to let us search his room, but we're doing the right thing and saying, >> "Oh, Py Bal, Patty Bertil doesn't even live here." >> Oh, okay. Okay. Well, then your your parents are liars then. >> Teddy Berto lives with me at my residence and then he went to live with his girlfriend. He's live with a friend for like 6 months. >> Okay. Okay. >> No, that's honestly. >> And your mom and dad need to go to the doctors cuz they both got >> They got us that. Yeah, they're real good. >> They're scared. They don't know what to say. They're scared. That's what my mom >> Your dad seems pretty cool. That's actually really cool working for >> my son was just living for me until maybe like 6 8 months ago, but I didn't know if I'm living him. >> Yeah, he he is. >> While his mother was doing everything she could to defend her son, he seemed to have accepted his fate and the way he acted in jail made that pretty clear. >> I love you. She lives with you. >> She live where >> with you? >> No. >> Oh, okay. How did she find out so quick? >> Who told you? >> Hello? >> Who told you? >> Your mom. All right. Well, I love you. I'm going to call you later when I figure everything out. Okay. >> All right. >> He was eventually charged with felony grand theft, felony uttering a forged instrument, felony fraudulent use of personal ID, and felony organized scheme to defraud. Up next is the king of fraud, 18-year-old Elliot Garcia. He got outsmarted by a banker after his failed attempt to cash a fraudulent $4,950 check. >> You're speed right now. >> So, I didn't feel comfortable. So, I delayed him, called the customer, and then called um the police department. >> Okay. She never wrote this check out cuz she still has the check >> where at our house. And you're just kind of the dumb person. Don't know. Don't know anything >> to South of Florida. This is King of Frauds down here. >> On March the 25th, 2025, Bakaraton officers responded to a TD Bank following a report of a check scam in progress. When they arrived, they quickly placed the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Elliot Garcia in cuffs before he would realize what was happening. >> Luther, you're being detained right now. I'll tell you a second. Um, it's a lot. I I have voca police department. >> You guys got a room? Um, >> we're going to Hono Sure. S room. Take this room. Let's go. >> No, I'll tell you a minute. You know the reason, but we'll play your game. >> Freedom is right. >> Yep. Have a seat. >> All right. You're being lawfully detained right now when we investigate a fraud investigation. >> Fraud? >> Yep. Watch. >> Everything will be explained to you. >> I mean, >> right now, you're not free to go and you're being lawfully detained. I'm going to recharge your rights. All right. I'm required to warn you before you make any statement. You have the following constitutional rights. >> You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Any statement can be and will be used against you in a court of law. You understand these rights? I have read them to you, sir. >> You wish to answer my questions? Meanwhile, one of the officers spoke with the bank's assistant manager to try and piece things together, only to learn just how far these teen scammers were willing to go. >> Where's that appointment? Can I see that? >> Yes. This is the check that he had. >> She lives in New Jersey. She's in New Jersey now. >> Okay. She says she never wrote this check out. >> She never wrote that check. He said it's for um to She has repairs. >> I do have the check. Yes. Can you tell me what happened? >> Um, subject came in, approached the teller. Um, I am the assistant manager here. The teller wanted further verification. After looking at the subject's identification um, and the check, I realized that um, it may be a stolen check. Um, so I proceeded to contact the customer. >> There's a reason why you thought it was a stolen one, you said. I'm sorry. >> Yes. because of um the the location we >> cuz this was in New Jersey >> a New Jersey New Jersey check. Yes. >> So there's a little flag as you saw. >> Correct. >> Okay. >> Um I investigated further realized that the subject just recently opened up an account two accounts that has not been funded on March 10th. Um his stories that he provided to me did not add up. First he said that he was going to he purchases homes, fix them up and resell them. >> So okay. >> Yes. And then he stated that he was doing some work for them that they have a property in Boca Raton even though they live in New Jersey and he was doing some work for them. He also stated that it was from a company and then he switched and he said that it was from so I didn't feel comfortable so I delayed him called the customer and then called um the police department. After taking the banker's statement the officers turned to question the suspect who was already armed with one hell of a dumb story he hoped would get him out of trouble. >> So I I spoke with this gentleman. He lives in Orlando. Apparently, he came down from Orlando to West Palm Beach to stay at a hotel because him and his cousin like to flip random apartments, houses. Correct. Okay. If I'm wrong at any point, correct me. Okay, please. Okay. So, he's staying in West Palm. He didn't want to cash the check in West Palm because he didn't want to get robbed. But for whatever reason, he couldn't stop in Lantana, Buen Beach, Delray, any other city that was in between West Palm and the city of Boca Raton. He he for whatever reason, it's just random. Now, if I again, if I understand correctly, apparently in in our city, in the city of Bocarone, there's a lot of rundown apartments that need fixing that he can flip. and uh he needed to cash the check for $4,850 in our city um so that he can go look at a property somewhere in the city of Bocarone. He doesn't know where. His cousin knows where, but his cousin didn't come with him cuz he had all the important meetings, right? >> No, I didn't say meeting. >> Oh, well, he has other important stuff to do, right? Okay. So, he had other important stuff to do. So, he just Uber from West Palm to the city of Bocarone to cash a check. Uh, did I get the story right, sir? Okay. Just want to make sure I was right. >> So, I spoke to the teller and I spoke to this. Who's that to you? >> That's just the lady I have been remodeling for the house. >> Where? >> Uh, I don't remember. But I still have a company over there. But >> she owns no houses in the state of Florida. She only lives in Jersey. Never put down a book or a tone. >> Yeah, she only she lives in Jersey. >> Okay. She never wrote this check out cuz she still has the check. >> Where is at her house? How is that fee if the check is right there in front of me? >> I'm asking you that question. >> That's how I'm trying to >> This check was written out to you. >> Exactly. That's how I'm trying to figure out right now. >> You have her information there. You can call her. If you're a client, if she's your client, you can call her. >> I mean, you work in her house, right? >> I sent the company to her house. I am I'm just literally like >> Well, you said you picked up the check. You went to get the check in Jersey. >> Yeah, I picked up that check >> in Jersey. >> I didn't pick it up though. I got a mail. >> You know what? Let's Let's call her on the phone. We'll put her on the speaker for you. You have to work phone. >> That's crazy. >> So when I me though, like what? >> We're going to send her a picture of this. So she's going to confirm this is her signature, right? >> I mean, my man, you did the work. You got the check. You don't know anything about the check that was given to you? >> No. >> No. Okay. >> I mean, you saying that the check is still in Jersey. It's right there in front of you. I'm trying to figure out. So you went all the way to Jersey to do a construction job. >> So what city did you go to do this job? >> The company went over there for >> Okay. So >> what's your company? >> No, it's not my company. >> You said it's your company. >> I said company. >> A company. >> You said it was your company. >> I didn't say it was my company. >> Okay. So a company is going. So why this a company whatever the name of the a company is giving you a check? >> Okay. to do a job. >> But what job are you doing? You here in Florida, my man. Elliot, >> I'm going to ask you a question. Okay. >> You have a right to say no. Do you mind if you look through your phone? >> No. >> Okay. So, we're going to take the evidence and seize it. >> Wait for evidence. Get your phone. >> Wait, wait. I said, >> you said no. I'm not going to go back and forth. I'm just trying to prove what you say conversations with this this this victim here, right, in your company. Cuz usually you're going to text message some kind of proof of your company, right? And to show you where the checkout, some kind of service, some kind of something like that. >> Elliot, we all been doing the job for a while. >> I'm confused right now. >> So, is there someone who told you to go cash this check in >> and you're just kind of the dumb person. Don't know don't know anything. >> This is your chance to come clean, bro. I already cut you in enough more than enough lies. So, this is your chance to come clean and try to help yourself. If you want to stick to your story, you're more than welcome. But even the way I explained the story and you confirmed that that was your story, you know, >> it it makes no sense, my man. Listen, maybe if it was our first day doing this line of work, it might work. >> It's in South of Florida. This is king of frauds down here. This is not the first time we dealt with it. >> I ain't going to lie, I already know it. >> But I ain't going to lie, that right there. >> So, who gave you that check to cash? When the suspect heard the question, he knew that this was the moment he'd been waiting for. An opportunity to spin another ridiculous story to try and shift the attention from himself. >> Is it on the beach? Where? Here or where? Where you live? >> No. No. Like uh far? Like >> did he drop you off here? Is the car still here? >> No. I'm pretty sure once they seen you out the patrol car, they've been >> gone, right? >> Yeah. >> So, you met this random guy on the beach. He told you what to go in there. cash. >> Yeah, >> because on the March 10th, you open up an account, TD Bank. >> Yeah. >> Is that what he told you to do or >> No, no. I was going to open for my grand >> blah blah blah TV blah blah blah. >> So random guy, you know, you know what city he was in? >> What beach? >> Tampa. >> So he was in Tampa. You met this random guy at the beach? >> Yes. >> He told you whatever whatever they want. Blah blah blah. All right. >> Okay. >> Did Okay. You ever been arrested before for anything? No. I'm down here in West uh Palm Beach County. >> Uh the people from Tampa had dropped me on here and then I guess once they see you show up. >> Is it something like a friend of a trans do this or some random guy at the beach? >> Some random person at the beach. He was like, "Yo, I got these uh these checks." I'm like, "Okay." >> Yeah. I'm like, "They're legit." He's like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're legit." I'm like, "Okay, I'm not going to get into no trouble, right?" He was like, "No, no, you good." I was like, "Okay, good." >> A black guy, a white guy, Spanish guy. >> No. Um, >> white guy. >> Sorry. >> Who was the guy who told you? >> It was like It's like Haitian like >> So, it's a black guy. >> I'm not talking. >> What's the skin color? Is white, black, yellow? >> Dark skin. >> Dark skin. He got dressed. >> Okay. >> Tattoos all over. >> How many checks did he give you? >> Just one? >> Yeah, literally just one. >> Just one? >> Yeah, literally just one. He said you you said you he gave you checks. >> No. No. He gave me that check right there. He gave you >> He literally gave me this one. >> And he drove you all the way down here for one check. >> Is that the guy you're on the phone with when you were trying to cash the check? >> That's what we usually do. They stay on the phone while we try to do this. >> How much money were you supposed to get paid from that >> from the 4950 that you were going to take? How? How much was your cut? Uh um probably like probably like 15,500. >> He dropped you off and he says >> he just said cash out a little bit. >> What what car did he drop you off in? >> Uh it's an electric one. >> Like a Tesla. No, something like that. >> The Kona, whatever it is. >> Can I don't know. It's like Canon something. I don't know. >> Is it the Hyundai? >> No, >> it it's newer EV. What color? >> We're going to check the camera. So, I mean, this better be honest. If you came in the car, we dropped off or were you dropped off in the front or you dropped off in the back? >> Were you dropped off on the side, the front, or the back? Cuz we're going to check the cameras. There's a bank. There's cameras everywhere. >> Walked where? You said you were dropped off. >> But I got dropped off like down the street and I walked here. >> So I believe you're telling part of the story, right? You came honest with someone telling you to do this. >> But I ain't it ain't some guy on the beach. It's probably someone you knows. Probably someone who's done this before and said, "Hey, I did it once. It went through in Tampa and he took you from Tampa to here and you don't know what kind of car it was. >> You said it was an EV car. newer, right? What color was it? >> It's like a reddish. It's like a dark reddish like a wine color. >> Where did he drop you off? >> You literally got the light >> at this light where there this wide open window where the light is right here. They got cameras that point that way. Why? We're going to see you walk that way. >> Where they going to see you walk? >> Yeah. >> You You understand? You're in serious trouble right now, right? I hope you know that. Okay. Hey, I'm trying to I'm I'm going to be straight up with you, okay? You're looking at a couple felonies. >> Felonies? >> This is felony, man. >> What? >> Yeah. You're looking at washing a check, that's a felony. Fraud, that's another felony. The amount is over 750, so another felony. So, right now, you're looking at three felonies alone yourself. So, we're giving you the chance to try to help yourself. >> While the officer was still talking, the suspect asked the officers one unexpected question. >> What What would be helping you? >> The truth. The truth will help you because when we present a case later to the state attorney's office, >> they're going to see everything and they're going to be like, "Okay, this guy's cooperating or something." I don't think that you're the person involved in this. I think this is a bigger ring that I think that there's way more people involved in this. I don't think you're the only person that they're using to cash these checks. And the reason I know this is because a couple months ago, I made the same arrest for somebody else. Okay? So, it's up to you if you want to be you want to see the state. Okay. Hey, I cooperated. He was being truthful. Let's see what we can do to help them out. And I'm not saying to help you out that they're going to give you a deal or anything. I'm not mentioning anything. And I'm promising you anything. I am not. >> But what I'm trying to explain to you is it's just going to help you later in the long run because everybody's going to have access to all of this. All of this is being video and already recorded. We have all the evidence. We getting the statements, right? So all of this information is going to come into play later in court. So we're you we already caught your line, right? But now you're finally starting to tell somewhat of the truth, right? It's not a good look when the state attorney is reviewing this and they're like, "Okay, he's not even remorseful about what he's doing. He doesn't care about what he's doing." Okay, then they're going to give you what they're going to give you. Okay? Again, I'm didn't make you any promise. I'm not telling you that something's going to change. However, being truthful and you telling the truth and maybe even getting the people that got you in this situation involved, cuz as you can see, the people that dropped you off here, >> the moment they saw our cars, I know that they took off at a high rate of speed. They got in that highway and they say, "Lose this guy's contact number and it's over." You think you're ever going to hear from them again? >> You think you think they're going to post your bell? You got to think you were set to make what? 1,500 $1,000. So they gave you one check for $1,000 is what you were going to get. Think about how many checks they're giving out to people. How much money they're making. They're making hundreds of thousands of dollars and you're about to make $1,000. And like he said, three felonies. Three felonies for $1,000. >> Let that come. >> Let that sink in. You know, It's going to be up there. You're going to depend on the amount of felonies we're going to put. >> I don't want to give you a number, then I'm wrong. You get what I'm saying? >> This is the one and only chance and opportunity we're going to give you to come clean. Once we lock into your statement, guess what? All you whatever you tell us, that's what's going to be locked into your statement. Then it's up to the attorneys later on and the state how they going to want to handle this. Okay. But it's up to you cuz I don't think you are the person at fault for this. Somebody used you and now look who's the one in handcuffs and look who's the one that just took off in a car and they're hanging out at home >> and all they lost was a piece of paper. >> Somebody's calling you. Some hav guy facetiming you. >> So that's my phone. >> Okay. So you you want to take the phone for everything? It's you >> take the [ __ ] out of everything. >> Yeah. Like so this was your idea. This is your whole plot. Okay. So whose idea was for you to do this? I did. There's no way you just were walking around the beach holding hands or or walking by yourself, holding the air, and you decided to be like, "Oh, hey, how you doing, stranger? Oh, I can make $1,000. Let me jump in your car and let's go to the city of Buck Raton so I can make some money." I highly doubt that's what happened, but if that's the statement you want to stick to, I'll be more than happy when we go in front of the judge to let the judge know that was your statement. So, what happened? >> At this point, the officers knew that he was cornered. Only a seasoned liar could hear all that and still keep denying. Whatever he said next would show exactly who they were dealing with. >> I was at the beach on Temple >> when >> two weeks ago. >> Two weeks ago. Okay. And then what happened? Uh, I was just walking. I walked out of a restaurant. Some guy was like, "Hey yo, how old you is?" I was like, "I'm 18 years old." And he was like, "Hey, you trying to make like you trying to make a quick thousand?" I'm like, "Sure." And then once he showed me the check, I'm like, "4,000?" So, I'm only getting $1,000 for $4,000 checks. I was like, "You know what? They'll probably give me more." So, I was like, "You know what? I'll just go through with it. cast a check, give him whatever he gives, and whatever he gives me, he gives me. That was literally the end of it. >> Okay. How did you contact with this person? >> Huh? >> How did you communicate with this person? >> The person. >> Okay. So, you known him for two weeks, correct? Two weeks from today. Correct. Give or take? >> Okay. So, you've been with him every single day, 24/7 with him for the last two weeks? >> No. Okay. So, how did you communicate? Did you guys use like brain signals, smoke signals? How did you communicate with him? >> No, he just told me what to do and I just I really had to like memorize. >> Okay. So, he tells you what to do, but somebody dropped you off. So, how did you communicate with these people? >> Unbelievable. >> How did you get from Tampa? Right. If you guys met in Tampa on the beach, I'm assuming like Clear Water St. Pete, right? It's the other side of the state. So in a twoe time frame, follow me. Two week time frame, you got from there to here with him. How did you orchestrate him picking you up and driving you here? Did you send him mail? Did you call him? Did you FaceTime him? Did you UVU MySpace? Like what did you guys use to talk to coordinate you getting here today? That's what we're trying to figure out. >> That's But that's not what I'm asking. >> I'm not asking what he paid for. How did you guys arrange like Instagram DMs? Did you like DM him like, "Hey dude, I'm ready to go at noon." >> No, it was just >> I'll pick you up. >> Yeah, he'll pick me up and then he'll drop me off and then he drop me off. >> So, how did he know when to pick you up and how to where to pick you up? >> Cuz he always drop me off the first time when we came back. >> So, he just came at a random time and you were like, "Oh, perfect. I've been ready." So, you were outside your house for hours just waiting with your stuff to come out? >> Not waiting for hours. You were just knocked on the door and was there. Um, all right. Let's go. >> So, he's familiar with the area over here, >> I guess. So, >> so he's from over here? >> I don't know where he's from. He I literally met his temple. >> So, how did he know where you live? >> You don't know where I live. I live in Tampa. >> Maybe maybe I'm just really confused with the situation. Right. So, you live here, but you were in Tampa, right? What? >> You live in West Palm. Sorry. >> I don't live. >> Where do you live? >> In Orlando. >> You live in Orlando. So he picks you up in Orlando after meeting two weeks ago in Tampa and then somehow you guys end up driving down here. >> Yeah. >> So how did he know what time what day to get from Tampa to Orlando to pick you up? >> He didn't know no time. He just pulled up. >> Okay. You just want to lie. You just want to lie, my man. It is what it is, bro. Come on, bro. Like you mean to tell me in a nature of communication where you have a phone that's been blowing up this whole time during a conversation you didn't get his phone number. >> So somebody tells you a random person you never met in your life tells you, "Hey, I'm going to give you $1,000." And the first thing is like, "Okay, you're a stranger. You didn't worry that he was going to go to your house to kill you and your family. You no, none of that went through your head." And you don't not even worry that he knows where you live. >> Now that you're caught, you're not worried that he knows where you live. Now, when you say it like that, yeah, just a little bit. But I mean, I don't think he's going to Well, I don't know. >> I guess we'll never know. >> Yeah, we'll never, >> right? >> Well, you might know, but we won't know. >> Okay. Like I said, we'll seize this. We're going to do a whole analytical. We'll get a warrant for this. This tells the truth. >> Okay, that's fine. When they realized he wasn't willing to cooperate, they decided it was time to reveal to him an important piece of information they had left out all along. >> Listen, bro. Just want I want to tell you something, okay? So you understand how this works. Even when you delete stuff in this, nothing is permanently deleted. And the once we get the warrant and we get the stuff we need, everything you even ever deleted, we're going to be able to see. So yes, >> by now it was crystal clear that they weren't going to get any truth from him. So they decided to try one last tactic. >> We changed the story a little bit. We didn't >> meet him in camp down like literally a couple days ago. This is I mean it's worth like you're still not being super clear about how you got down here because you told me one thing but now you told me another thing, right? So this is just something you like I told you before, you're articulate. You seem like, you know, you have a you know, >> it was a clean recordation. You have a clean record, bro. But like this >> I mean, listen, it's like I said, it's not a crime of the century, but you had to know. Look, you have to someone hands you a check with these two people's names on it say, "Oh, go in here and do this." Like, come on. >> The thing is, I I did it before like a regular employer check. So, I when I didn't have no bank, that's how I would get my money. Like I would literally go cash it out. >> You are smart. Some random dude in Fort Lauderdale comes up to you and says, "Oh, you want to do a TD?" That's wild, bro. That you would tell me that would be a fast investment though. That's how that's how I see it though. >> It happened so fast that ever do it again. Obviously, >> ever in my life for it, right? And >> ruining that record. But like I said, you're 18, okay? It's a crime 100% and you're going to jail for it, right? But if you really don't have any other prior arrests or anything like that, >> okay, and then you go see a judge and they have plenty of things. They have diversion programs. >> What was the difference in your story with her so just so that way I'm caught up to speed, right? Cuz here here's where I'm at, right? I'm not trying to ask you I'm sharing with you, right? Manto man, you told us one story. That's all I know. She can tell me her story and it's coming from her. So it's a game of telephone, right? I don't like playing telephone. I'd rather hear it from you. So that way >> that way when I write my report, it's your words and not somebody else's. Right. So you met this dude in Fort Lauderdale 2 days ago. >> Yeah. >> You go back home. What? What happened? >> No, I I stayed in Fort Lauderdale. >> Okay. So you stay down there and then >> stay down there. Literally, he said just give me a couple days. I was like, "All right, I'll give you a couple days." The day comes, he said, "All right, this what you going to do? You going to walk in? I'm going to give you this check and you going to walk out. >> Literally made it super like that. He didn't even he didn't give me his details. He didn't give me nothing. Like he didn't give me arrangements or nothing. He literally said, "I'm going to give you this check once you walk in TD. >> Cash it and you're out." >> Literally. Literally. Simple as that. >> So, like the This is from for my understanding, not like >> No, you to just clarify. Did Did he have you fill it out or did he already have this information for the lady? It was already filled out. >> He litally he literally gave it to me. He said, "Walk in here." And I >> So he already knew your name and stuff to fill it out. And then he knew what I guess dollar amount he wanted it all to be and stuff. >> That's so he I guess all the only thing the only thing he asked me for was the name like mine. >> Your Sorry. >> My name. >> Your name? >> That's >> I didn't I just didn't hear you. >> No, you did. >> Um Okay. And then what? He picked you up earlier today. Y'all came straight here and that was it? Y'all ain't been hanging out the last two days? >> Literally. That's it. >> Okay. Oh, >> he just made it so simple. So, I didn't really like >> it back in my head like damn this dumb. >> You walk out with a band, too. >> Like, and that that band was literally going to go to my clothing. Like, >> go to your what? >> My clothing brand. >> Clothing. I guess >> like I was about I was about to open. That's why I opened TD originally to make a business. >> Yeah. >> To make as a business account. >> Okay. >> But, bro, it's too late for that. With the truth finally out, it was time to teach that teenage scammer that bad choices have bad consequences. >> We're going to search you before we put you in the vehicle. >> You understand? You understand? You're under arrest, right? >> Okay. >> Spread your feet for me, sir. A little more wider than that. You have to go wider. A little bit wider. >> Yep. I'll show you. Go right there. Like that. You going to hold me if I fall? >> 100%. Where do you think my hand is here? You see what I'm saying? Look, >> I got my neck and my arm making sure you don't fall, bro. >> I know, bro. You good? >> I get it. I get it, bro. >> It's all love, bro. I didn't even >> I feel you. Listen, I get it. >> I get it. >> Hey, so listen. I'm not asking this to be funny, right? I ask everybody this before I put them in my car. I'm going to patch you down. Is there anything that's going to poke me, stick, or harm me? Okay. So, that covers anything. Just hear me out. Anything that covers anything on the outside of your body? Do you have anything on the inside of your body? I ask everybody because here's the reason I'm asking it is it's it's fine now but once you get to the jail they're going to x-ray you and if they see something inside you it's another charge. >> So if you want to tell me now we can figure that out. >> You sure? >> No piercings in places that I'm not going to find. Okay. >> In the end he was charged with felony grand theft, felony uttering of a counterfeit check and felony fraudulent use of personal information. Like typical dumb teen scammers, 21-year-old Joshua Campbell and 21-year-old Khan Anderson blamed their actions on peer influence after they got caught trying to pull off a forged check fraud. >> So yesterday we got notification that he had gone to a couple of locations and flashing checks. >> Went on Instagram, >> seen a couple dudes flashing money. >> Yeah. >> I wonder like how they get I always wonder how they get it. You straight with this one like this here. >> Yeah. On March the 21st, 2025, Joshua Campbell and his partner Kan Anderson had just successfully cashed a forged check and were about to make a quick exit from a TD bank when the cops intercepted them. >> Hey, give me a come back inside the bank real quick. >> All right. >> Whose check is that? >> Uh, check. >> Brew check. You sure about that? >> Yeah. Have a seat inside real quick, bro. Sorry. Come here. >> Hey, don't get hit. >> How you doing, man? Hey, is that your is that your Cadillac? No. All right, let's go back over there. We'll talk. >> You going to leave your voice hanging in the bed? I'll check the door. >> You going to leave your boys hanging at the bank there? What's up? >> You know what I mean? >> Why'd you leave your car, bro? >> This is not my I'll roll it up here with them boys. >> Oh, with them boys, right? >> So, you're just going to leave a hanger over here in the bank by yourself? I don't see any active >> get your ID. >> Hell no. >> You have the keys to the car? >> Yeah, you gave me the key. >> All right, let me get the keys. >> Hear me out, bro. Okay. >> I ain't got no Hear me out. Hear me out. Hear me out. Okay. >> Talk to me. >> Let me talk to you. Okay. >> If you're going to treat us like we're dumb, let me let me Can I finish, >> bro? >> Okay. All right. Let Let me tell you Let me tell you what I'm going to say. You opened that back door and you crawled out. >> I I swear to God. Roll the camera. Stop. We're done. >> All right. Give me your ID, man. >> I didn't crawl out. >> I literally saw you get out of the car, bro. >> You seen me crawl out the car? >> I visibly I visibly stood up. Passenger side. Yes or no? >> No. I came out of this door. >> That's passenger side, right? >> Yes. Not the passenger door though. Right here. >> This is your car or not? >> Anderson. How do you spell it? >> K E. That's H A W N. Is it stolen? >> No. Then that's for you. >> So is this not your vehicle? >> I I crawled out of there though. I crawled out of there like this right now. >> Just like that. Just like that. Hey, how do you think I out of everybody walking? How did I point you out? >> I have dealt with the police before. >> No fault. >> I did not crawl out of this car. >> No problem. >> But you didn't look at me. I did not crawl out the car. >> But you came out of the car, right? >> I came I did not crawl though. You came out trying to make it like I'm like I'm like I'm trying >> You came out for >> Why'd you leave? >> Why you Hey, why you leaving? Why did I get out that motherucker? >> What do you mean? >> I didn't know this car was involved. I just parked. >> You need to stop dumb, bro. >> You're dumb. >> You scene, bro. Come back to the car. So, you pulled in front of it, gang. >> No, I didn't. >> I showed up after the fact. >> Nobody, bro. >> Who you think you 58? See what happens as [ __ ] >> Wait, when are we rolling up right here and you start creeping out over here? >> I didn't creep. >> Just walked away. >> I literally go on the phone up here. You f me. >> That's weird. >> That's weird. Okay. Uh, what I was saying? So that's four charges right there. >> What else I got? And you you did a year >> and you out. You got a new job, right? >> Yeah. >> You changed. >> You changed. >> I do. I do. I mean, I'm still around the same crowd, but >> Yeah, I mean, we got to work on that, man. What a small world, man. Out of all the parking I could have parked, I parked there. Locked. I didn't even know that you were involved. >> I'm not involved. I'm just >> I like it. >> How am I involved? >> I like it, >> yo. So, I'm involved. >> I mean, you're in a car where the guy went to cash fake checks. >> You try to walk out of the car. >> I didn't try. >> Oh. Oh, you walk. You walk. You walk out the out the passenger side, which is funny. >> Why didn't >> Hey, and the rear. >> Why? Why? I didn't run. >> Cuz you know I'm faster than you. >> What? What? >> Listen, man. >> What? >> I should I should have ran. >> You should have. You should have. Hey, you still got your chance. This to show. No. Hell no. You >> still got the chance. Hell >> no. Just to show you though, you can't keep up with me. >> Okay. >> This a new guy. >> No matter what the officers thought they had seen, K. Sha remained hellbent on proving his innocence even when the truth was staring him right in the face. >> Hell yeah. >> This a new guy. >> Yeah. >> I would have had if I would have ran. >> Yeah. Gone. >> Y'all would have >> Yeah. >> I like it. >> I'm too quick, bro. >> Yeah. Cool. >> See the little legs, man. Little ankles. >> What does that do? Anything? >> Drew too fast. You got on all this gear, gang. >> Back up. You would have Y'all would have blocked me off my sheriff. >> There you go. >> There you go. >> Don't even waste my time. >> Exactly. Exactly. So, hear me out. So, this is where we're at. >> If I was driving, I would have >> No, you you you wouldn't you wouldn't have got out because guess what? Guess what would happen? What? You know what happened? Out of all these parking lots, let me explain something to you. Out of all these parking lots, look where I decided to park. Not even knowing you were involved. So, let me let me finish. I'm not involved. >> Can I finish? >> I'm not involved. I'm just >> If we're going to talk, are we going to talk or not? >> Okay. Yeah. >> So, out of all the parking spots, you would have rammed my car. >> No, I wouldn't hit it. >> Yeah, you would hit. >> I'm going to drive. >> Okay. >> I know how to drive. >> Well, if you would have hit it, then guess what? >> Then we would have chased you cuz you got aggravated battery with the deli weapon on Leo. >> And guess what? We're the green machine. You know what green machine means? >> All right. Hey, y'all going to get the helicopter. >> Helicopter. >> Y'all not going to keep up with this. You know how you know me? >> You know what's on his dash? >> I don't care what you have. >> You want me to tell you why? >> Not me though. >> Green machine. You know what that means? >> That means I have all I got to do is get on the radio and I'll have more than 2,000 deputies. >> I know what's going on >> on this. >> You know it. >> I know. >> Hey, but I'll give it to you, bro. >> I do. >> So, I don't know if you know about me. >> I'm a hunter. >> Yeah. >> In my personal life, right? So, I saw him. I was like, "Man, that's funny that this guy is is climbing over the door and opening the passenger and going like this. I'm just saying. I'm just saying. >> Let me tell my story. Let me tell my story." And then and then you go through the bushes and you go through the sidewalk and then all of a sudden head pops up. Boom. Pops up. And then you start you start calling people, looking around. I'm like, "Oh, man." >> So, hey, it is what it is, bro. >> Where the cameras at? >> It is what it is. Where came at. You got a camera on your car. >> It is what it is. >> You got >> Listen. >> No, cuz I don't tell no lies. You got a camera on your car. >> I walk right out here. And let me tell you one thing. >> That is fine. >> Y You want me to tell you something else? >> How? >> Hey, >> you're lying. >> Okay. >> Are you talking about the illegal tin on your windshield? >> Yeah. >> This is not mine. >> Yeah. Oh, it's not his car. So, there's a there's a third person driving. >> And you and you ain't seen nobody. >> I didn't see nobody else get out of the car. Do we need a 1070? >> Oh, most likely it's going to be a 1070 for >> Not yet. Not yet. >> What's a 1070? >> A tow truck, >> huh? Oh, a tow truck. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Long as I get my my Adidas pants. >> No, >> Adidas. Wait, you got stuff in the car? >> Yeah. >> But you're not involved. >> Yeah. >> Oh, but then I can't >> I don't want to like >> What? >> You look good. >> I like my drift though. Like >> Yeah. Drip drip's great. You mean >> I can tell by your watch, bro? trips is great. >> This thing >> so so uh I don't know I don't know what's going on here but this is this is what's going on. Let me explain it to you. We got a guy going inside cashing counterfeit checks which is your past and I know you changed cuz you did a year and I appreciate that. I'm glad that the criminal justice system changed your life. That's what we like. Right. And then I see you crawl out of the walk out of this car like a man walk out of this car. Right. And then >> open it. Hold on. Can you help me? >> Can I finish? Look how See this? Look how close. >> Yeah. And then the key to the car is in your pocket, >> but the driver didn't take it. >> Yeah. >> And then And then what happens is 100%. And then I check in the trunk cuz I want to confirm everything that's going on. And I find several checks. >> Would that Anderson on those? >> No. But Roy, Roy, Michael, Michael Lor and large 950 9 which hey I don't know if you knew this and I'm just throwing it out there. Every time you go over 500 it gets flagged. Now we have President Trump in the system. You all know that he up he he lowered the amount so counterfeits it's not going to be easy anymore. I know 500 bucks. I mean you go to Walmart, you work a shift, you get 500 bucks nowadays. >> When they saw that he was trying to outsmart him, the officers knew a simple interrogation just wouldn't cut it. They needed another tactic to try and get answers. >> I got caught for all that dumb. >> Yeah. And you changed your life. I >> That's You haven't changed your life? >> No, I'm not saying anything. I'm just saying I got So you have changed your life. >> Clean slate. I got out early. I was supposed to get out January. >> A man, we should have left you in there for January. No. Oh, all right. My bad. My bad. Too much time. >> Hey, so question for you, and I'm just going to throw it out there. And I could be completely wrong cuz I haven't talked to your boy, but it looks like your boy hasn't done time yet. And he might be, you know, I'm I don't know. I don't know. Yo, no. Say, all I'm saying is don't be looking around the run cuz that's not going to be good. >> I'm not running. I appreciate that. >> I appreciate that. >> I got the other day I got in an inter he drove up on my car. >> Who was that? >> Uh, a sham. >> Yeah, listen. >> So, >> no bull, y'all. Y'all report this like anytime anything happens. Y'all can see this. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I'm in my Genesis. >> Look at Look at Look at even look at even that. I'm in a Genesis layback. He get close up on the car like he get right here where it's done. I'm like, "Oh, no. I can't I can't do this. I can't do it." >> I back in the Wawa right there on uh I think I was >> No, that was the building. I was in green. >> Oh yeah. >> So I back in I get out the car. I go to the I I >> So let let me let me let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. >> He thought I was selling dope or something. No, never that. Never that. >> He thought I was doping. Hear me out. >> I was traumatized. >> 441. You know where 441 is? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> All right. 441 all the way to You know where Fawsome Road is? >> No. >> All right. Fam Road is further west, right? And anything from You know where Shoma is? >> Sh. >> Right. And you know all the way up till 42nd, >> you come to Royal Palm. That's Royal Palm. >> Yeah. >> Right. The village of Royal Palm. I love this place. Like I literally love this place. Like I got a whole back tattoo that says village of Ro Pal. Like I love this place. Right. So you come to the village of Ro Pal and you decide to commit any crime. >> Let me I'm just trying to >> It's going to be It's going to be dealt with a court. >> I do my crimes my way. Look it up. >> I appreciate that. >> Go look it up. >> I don't want to with y'all. I appreciate >> I'm trying to I tried I tried to >> Well, you tried to You try to walk away >> and you're looking and then you saw you're like, "Man, this this boy this boy might be fast. He might catch you." >> Keep putting words in my mouth now. Yo. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. They caught me. Look at this. How fake that is. >> While officers spoke to one suspect in the parking lot, others went inside to question the banker who had called them. As she explained what had happened, she dropped a shocking piece of information. >> What's going on today? >> So, yesterday we got notification that he had gone to a couple other locations and cash fraud checks. >> So, these are fragrant. He's already cashed some fraudulent ones. >> 10 different locations, right? >> Yeah. >> Military. >> Okay. Was there do you know anything about those cases over there? Were they >> No, I don't. I just know that he did get away with it over there and then we found out about it. So, we don't know that. >> Okay. If you don't mind me asking, how do you how can you confirm this is Russian checks? >> Because the other trucks have different check. >> Okay. And the seal is different and they're out of branch. >> Okay. Seal meaning like this part here. The part >> that part. Okay. >> And you can confirm this, right? Is that correct? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. You swear I'll tell the truth. Let the truth help the gap. That's a sworn statement. >> You swear to tell the truth? >> Yes. >> Okay. I'm going to put your hand up and Yes. Okay. >> All right. And these were the only two that he was trying to cash out. >> Yes. My god. >> After taking the banker's statement, they turned their attention to Joshua. At first, they were caught off guard by his honesty as they started questioning him. But what truly got them was the reason behind his actions. >> How's it going? >> Just got myself in trouble. >> In trouble. What happened? >> Got influenced the cash. Got influenced see a lot of people with money. Tried to see like how they doing it. Gave my information away. Try to get the tech. >> I had a dream about this phone too. >> Maybe it's still a dream. >> Nah, just real life. >> Howdy. >> 21. >> 21 working at Walmart. >> Yeah. Check out. >> You're not going to talk. >> All right. Just have a seat real quick. >> All right. >> Before I ask you the question real quick. All right. >> All right. He's a good kid, though. >> He's a good kid. All right. So, listen, bro. Um, required to warn you, before you make any statements that you have the following constitutional rights, you have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Any statement must be you make must be freely voluntarily given. You understand? >> Yes, sure. >> Those rights in mind you want to talk about real quick, bro. >> Honestly goes a long way, man. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> So, it's Listen, >> we know who you are. You've got to pass, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. We're not sugar coating. I'm trying to be as manto man as transparent as you you and I, right? So, we obviously know the must of the just of what's going on here. So, you want to tell me what's going on with this chemical? >> Yeah. So, I basically like got influenced like for real though. Like I was I took a week off from work. >> Okay. >> But really because my wrist though, but I took a week off of work. I >> went on Instagram. >> Seen a couple dudes flashing money. >> Yeah. >> I I wonder like how they get I always wonder how they get it. So like I asked them like how you uh how you do like what are you doing to get all this money and they say bro you trying to get like bro I'm tell man to man like >> fast cash like they say bro how you you trying to get in the loop >> so I'm like yeah like like >> like you know like I'm thinking like okay I don't you know like bad things but like >> I'm thinking like like harmless you thinking more of like being harmless right type of thing. Yeah. I kind like I'm I'm a soft kind of dude. I kind of felt it was horrendous. I had a dream about this stuff too. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So like it kind of like >> kind of shook me though. >> How old are you? >> 21. >> 21. All right. You see man you're young, bro. >> Yeah. I got I'm not I'm not here to give you a spiel and and do the whole pep talk thing. But bro, you're young and when you start to go on a certain path and I'm not not trying to be the the you know you I'm sure you heard it. You got to trip carefully with the step, bro. Because at the end of the day, if it's not this, it's something else that's going to catch up. And you said you had a baby on the way. >> Yeah, I got Yeah. Um, she's four months now. >> She's She's on, bro. She's inside. You know what I'm saying? >> I work at Walmart. We We met at Walmart, actually. >> Which Walmart you work at? >> Lake Park. >> Lake Park. All right. So, you don't work at K and >> Yeah. Don't know what that is at all. >> I know. >> All right, man. So, you understand that what you did right here was crime, right? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> So, you're opening a video telling me this that you actually try to use a sports check to cash check? >> Yeah. They told They told me if I cash this, they'll give me a certain amount. >> I'll get him. I don't know. >> So, yeah. >> All right, bro. All right. So, what I'm going to do for you, where's your brother at? >> I don't have a problem. >> Oh, the other kid that looked just like you. Is that your That's not your brother? >> No, my brother at Walmart. >> All right. He looks like your brother. The other kid that came with you, he looks just like your brother. Where's he at? >> My brother? >> No, the other one that was right here. >> Oh, that's uh I think that's somebody else. >> Oh, somebody else. He look He looks just like you. That's what I said. Is that your brother? Who's your boy over there? >> Uh that's my friend. >> Your friend? Do you see how funny it was, bro? We rolled up. Your pet started walking away from the car. My sergeant saw that. For real? >> Yeah. He said, "Why are you walking away?" And he's like, "Man, I don't want no part of this." So, you knew he knew something was right. He knew the whole thing, too. >> All right. Listen. What are we going to do? You got what do you have on your on your person right now? >> This on my phone. >> All right. Listen, man. This concludes the interview at 12:38. All right. So, what we have here right now is I'm going to be straight up honest with you. You're going to go for the ride, right? There's no other choice, man. You literally openly admitted to everything to me on what's going on trying to make a fast buck. I understand that. >> When you go in, listen, you got a pass of doing something someone like this. >> You got to stop, bro. Because at the end of the day, it's all traceable, man. You see what I'm saying? It all catches up to you in due time. >> For a second, he really thought the officers would feel sorry for him and let him go. But it didn't take long before reality hit him. So, >> I understand. >> You big What? Can you turn around? Put your hands behind Rebecca. Just make sure if any two cups or not. Keep you can keep your phone on you in the meantime and then we're going to go from there. All right, bro. >> All right. >> Do it like you're praying. >> I want to see if I might need to use two cuffs on you or not. Do it like you're praying. >> It hurts. >> Yeah. >> You have a second pair. You need one. >> I got a second pair in the car. I just want to make sure with this one. >> You straight with this one like this here. >> All right. You sure? Night elo 32. Hey, cops are straight. >> My friend. >> Your friend right here? >> Yeah. >> Find out. Hey, that car. Let me ask you for the car though. Who's uh whose car is that? >> Caddy? >> Yeah. I don't know. >> You don't know whose car it is? Where'd you pick it up at? >> Was it a rental? Is it stolen? >> I think it was a rental. It's >> a rental. >> Were you driving the car? Uh, I don't I don't have a license. >> No, I'm saying who's driving the car? >> I think he was driving. >> He was driving the car. >> Yeah. >> All right. Just grab the stuff out of your back, bro. >> You got nothing else on you, bro? >> Any other contra? >> I got >> What's up, bro? Like, you think like my mother would be able to like me or >> Yeah, she be too. >> It's just we got to go through the process now to take care of all that. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. So, Oh, so fingerprints. >> Yeah, you got you you've been arrested, though, right? Yeah, I've been restaurant for 8 hours though. >> We're at here in Publish County. >> Yeah, I want Yeah, I want I want to call >> Yeah. What we call? Hey, as soon as we go to the district real quick, we're going to go to our little police station. >> Watch your head, bro. I don't want you to record, bro. >> Hey, >> you want me You want to get an extra pair of cuffs for you? >> Hey, uh, >> he was driving. He was driving. >> Hey, according to his boy, he was driving. as you will since we're on the same page and and you're being a cooperative because that helps you a long way. I mean, I'm not even bullshitting the whole time. As much as cooperative you can be through this whole thing when it comes to court and all that nonsense, when the judge sees everything and sees everything that's written down, he's going to go with what what he's got, right? And let me be honest with you because I already read Richard Rand right something. Was he the guy that influenced you to do the checks little check scheme? Cuz he's talking to us right now. Is he that guy or no? It was a couple of them. >> Okay. Was he one of them? >> Yeah, >> he was one of them. >> But he was the one that kind of encouraged you to to to do this whole little operation. >> It It wasn't him. It was like I don't know the other dude. They I don't know if I can, >> but but between you and I, he's one of the guys that >> I think one of your friends. >> Okay. But he's one of the guys that encouraged you to come here today and do it, right? Okay. >> All right. Camp, you know what's going on, right? >> Yeah. So today you're here real pump, right? >> Yeah. You're in real palm today. You did what you did. You're honest about it. You're you're you're pretty much honest the whole way. Be honest with me, bro. This right here yesterday is that was that you two catching these tricks yesterday? >> Same thing. >> Yeah. Um so this is the one over at uh where's it? Palm Springs. Palm Springs. I believe >> Okay. And these were the same ones yesterday you tried to do as well. Right. What you successfully did, right? >> Yeah. >> At the parking lot, the officers confronted Ka about what his friend had said. But instead of coming clean, he chose to play games. >> You know, one of my favorite movies, >> Catch Me If You Can. >> Oh, you ever seen that one? >> That's a good one. >> You can't with Leonardo DiCapri. >> You could You can't I'm telling you, if I would have ran >> No, no, I'm not talking about >> I wish I wish like >> I'm not I'm not talking about running. You're what? You're this. Never seen a movie. >> No. No. Hell no. I'm not. I know. I know. Like I'm not No, I'm not dumb. I'm dumb, but I ain't dumb. >> You should watch. >> Oh man. >> That boy got locked up. >> Do you know what his name is? Sho Whoa. That got crazy awkward like within seconds. Awkward. >> This look like this. >> Huh? No. No. No. Yeah. Don't worry about it. We're going to tell it. >> I might buy one. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Whose car is it? >> It is now. >> It's a rental car. >> It's a rental. Who' you rent it from? I didn't rent it. >> Who rented it? >> It's a private rental car. >> Who rented it? >> The dude over there. Or are you just staying quiet for some reason? >> No, people get hurt like that out here. >> Okay. >> One of your mom get you hurt. >> I mean, >> I can't say too much. >> Maybe maybe it's different because it's private rental. Yeah, it's a problem. >> Well, when you get like an enterprise or a budget or whatever, when you sign that rental agreement, it's a rental. You have >> It's a rental agreement. >> Imagine that. >> I wasn't driving. >> I don't know. I don't care. >> That's so weird. >> Key in the pocket, right? Oh, it's time for me to go. But >> you do me a favor. You can sit down. And then do me a favor. Cross your legs. Cross your legs. >> There you go. >> No, I can't. >> You're going to cross your legs. >> All right. And then uh give me your cell phone. >> You're willing to give us your code for your phone? Uh, >> are you willing to give us your >> For what? >> For your phone. >> For what? >> So, the way it's going to is we're seizing your phone. >> Um, and then we're going to put in the evidence. Okay. Uh, for this case, uh, once we we we're going to do a search warrant unless you're willing to give us consent to go through your phone right now. Okay. >> Uh, then we can release the phone back to you. If not, then it goes through the system. Sometimes the system can destroy your phone and you're not going to be able to get it back. or if people val voluntarily give us the code, uh, it's easier for you to get your co your your phone back. Are you willing to give us consent to get your code? >> No. >> No problem. Appreciate that. >> Yeah. Miami. >> Yes. And is your license valid? Suspended with knowledge? >> Uh, no. No, no, no. I called him uh yesterday and say that my >> Is your license suspended? Yes or no? >> Yes, it's suspended. I called him. I called them and they said that my what's the name is uh the case is closed. >> You know it's a crime to drive with a license or suspended license. >> But they said that's what I'm saying. I called them and said the case >> when when was your case when was it suspended for? How long ago? >> My been suspended for like >> years. I don't know. I think they spitting out of it. >> So that your license is still suspended. So you mean >> which you know that and then if you drive >> No, no, no. I thought it was I thought it was good. I called. >> No, you said the case is closed, but that doesn't you didn't say. >> No, that's what you just said. >> When he just asked you, >> dude. I told I told him from the I told him from the jump it was suspended. I'm not I don't know. >> So So hear me out. >> But let me finish. All right. So do you know what integrity is? >> So if Can I finish? >> So can I finish? Yes, sir. >> If I was to get charged, I'm getting charged with driving suspended license. >> No. So, >> well, we're still investigating stuff, but do you understand what integrity is? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Do you know what what telling the truth is? >> Mhm. >> At that point, the officers wondered how he ever thought he could outsmart them, especially with the evidence piling up. They were done playing games and decided to lay out all the cards on the table. >> All right. So, what what what's done is done. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. We all know you're driving this car. >> Now, we would rather you be honest and say, "Hey, listen. and I was driving this car and it is what it is and we'll give you a ticket and you go on your way, right? Or you can keep on saying, "No, I wasn't driving this car." And D, you understand? Like, but why even lie? >> I'm just tired of going to jail, man. >> You ain't going to tell me. >> Cross your legs. You see how quick I'm not going nowhere. >> Cross your legs. >> I keep telling this, man. I already know what's going on. I'm going to run. Lay back. >> You're taking a nap. >> Sit up. Sit up. One, two, three. Inside. till we figure out what we got everything going on. We know you're driving the vehicle. You have the key to your car. At the minimum right now is suspended with knowledge. Okay, that's the minimum. Minimum right now. Remember remember the village boundaries. Okay. >> You want to talk over? >> Yeah. How do I get suspended? Uh, how do I get locked up for driving with like no knowledge of suspension when I didn't know? >> You literally just said that you know your license. I called and he said it was it was >> You literally just said you're lucky. You know your license is suspended. Turn. Nothing tucked up underneath your balls or up here. Anything crazy like that, right? No. Yeah, I see. After placing him in cuffs, they went on to search their vehicle for more evidence. But what they found was far more than they imagined. Nothing but the owner manual in the front passenger. Last cup. Nothing in the back seat. Passenger penny. Couple pennies. A lip balm. That thing in the back pouch. >> We got to get a hold of the person that owns the car. After the search, they went over to Joshua, hoping to get more information about the items recovered from their car. Try to go to my mom house to uh if you can give her some money. They they going to send me to the county jail. >> For uh for the checks. >> You want me to call your home? >> Yeah, you good. But I'm going to go to the uh I'm going to go to Belgade. But if y'all can do anything, just help me. But call my call my mom and tell her to get to get the pill bomb and something. I guess I I don't want you to I don't want you to stress out. If I if I get up by tonight, I'll uh you come to my house tomorrow. All right. All right. right here. >> You hear me? >> Yeah, >> Charlie. >> I understand you upset. So, >> yeah, I know. I I get it. But but when we we we going if I get if I get back I'll talk to you brother. >> Who else? >> Car I no more though. I tell I'm not sure. >> I know. You have been there. I didn't raise you like that. >> I know. I truly tongue. >> I know. >> You don't have to. You don't You don't You don't have to. You got a roof over your head. You don't need a [ __ ] You don't have to. >> Yeah. In the end, he was sent to jail on two counts of felony uttering a counterfeit check, while his friend was booked in for driving with a suspended license. Khan and Joshua could easily pass for some of the dumbest teen scammers around, but Sumaya and her friends gave them a run for their money when she tried to pull off a fraudulent check operation, convinced that they were smart enough to run the show. I mean, the signature might have been traced. >> It's off and I mean, it's close. >> So, you don't you don't know that you were at like three different banks today? >> Yeah. >> The same signature? Sorry. >> And then they got a bunch of RIP checks. >> You're being detained right now. Okay. >> On December the 29th, 2023, deputies were dispatched to MNT Bank following a report of a woman trying to cash a forged check. They began questioning her, but it didn't take long for them to realize that something about her responses didn't sit right. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> We got it, buddy. >> Out with >> Hello. Um, so I have this information here that's not matching on our system. Um, I understand you've been to other branches, too. So, we just wanted to >> What's going on? >> Hi. Um, I got that check from my employer. >> Mhm. Do you have an ID on you? >> Yes, that's the ID. >> This is your ID? >> Yes. >> Okay. What's your name? >> Somaya. >> Your birthday. >> Okay. 287. >> Do you have a driver's license? >> Yes, it's in my car. >> Is it in Connecticut or >> Huh? >> Is it a Connecticut? I know. Is it a Connecticut license or is it >> No, I'm visiting family. >> Where you from? What state? So, it's a New York license. Okay. >> Why don't you say hang tight for a second? >> Well, which car? So, we can go take a look. >> Okay. What color? >> White. >> White. Okay. >> So, you just came to cash a check from your employer? >> Yeah. Who's your employer? >> Um, that's it's for it's a rent check. >> A rent check? >> Yes, it's for my rent. >> Yeah. Who's your employer though? >> It's a rent check. >> No, I get that. But you said it's from your employer, right? >> Yeah. >> So, who's your employer? >> I don't understand the problem. >> Well, it sounds like they think you might be trying to pass a bad check. >> No, I'm not. >> Okay. So, I'm asking who's your employer? Like, who gave you the check? >> It's for your rent. >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you understand my question? >> Yeah. I I feel like I don't know what's going on. >> So, I just told you they they called us cuz they think you're trying to pass a bad check. >> Okay. >> So, that's what's going on. So, I'm just trying to figure out if you know you're saying it's just for rent and everything like that. I'm just asking who's your employer. >> It's for rent. >> Go ahead. I know you you didn't hear you're not getting my question. >> Like someone someone issued it to you, right? Your employer. So, who's your employer? Like what do you do for work? I'm a receptionist. >> Receptionist. Okay. Where do you work? >> In New York. >> Okay. >> There's no Civics out here in the parking lot. Do you want to want her to try again? >> You drive a different car? >> No. >> Okay. So, my partner just told me there's not a Civic in the parking lot. >> You I don't I don't understand. You guys are making me like nervous. >> Okay. Well, it's a simple question. What What kind of car did you drive? >> A white seven car. >> Okay. So, Where where'd you park it? Behind back. >> Yes. >> So again, who is your employer that cut you the check? >> Savannah. >> Yeah. >> Who's your employer? >> So your friend left you with >> I got on the timeline. >> You want to just tell me what's going on? Obviously I'm not stupid. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. I know you're not stupid. rival. >> Well, the car that you came in with >> just got stopped by the state police trying to leave. >> You know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> Probably cuz you told them that we were here. >> So, we want to tell them what's going on or I'm just going to go off what they said and that's what you know that's going to be that. I'm just trying to give you >> They're going to do what you're going to do regardless. >> No. >> Yes, you are. >> Okay. So, do you want to tell me about the check or no? >> Yes. I was issued that. >> Okay. By who? Somaya. >> Yeah. >> By who? >> It shouldn't be too hard of a question, right? >> Yeah. I don't think >> Hm. >> Okay, you can hang tight right here. >> When it dawned on him that the suspect wasn't willing to come clean with what had happened, he turned to question the banker. But what followed was one of the lamest check forgery stories they had ever heard. So you explain what's going on and tried to go to their location and cash the check and we've already check that out of that account. So we can tell it's a counterfeit check. >> How how do you do that? >> So we look at images of recently cashed it. If it doesn't match anything, the signature is not a match. So that tells us it's counterfeit. So the signature is not a match to the other checks that have been cashed by this year. >> You want me to pull one up and print it? >> Yes. >> Thank you, Jack. Thank you. >> So anyway, she came here and you >> I saw her walking based off the description that the description we were all kind of >> already previously given information before she even came in about Okay. >> So she went to stores the area probably. as soon as she lo. >> Okay. >> And then she was trying to cash this >> and then you pulled up this account's >> other previous issue checks and the signature doesn't match. >> Correct. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And it's not the right style too. What do you mean? >> You just tell like so like the security features in a different spot. That's another tell where I don't know if it was in sequence. We'd also look at that. Sure was. It probably wasn't. >> Okay. >> She might have gotten away with it at another location. >> Yeah. Would you be willing to give a written statement about it just >> and then so see the security seal on a different side? >> I mean the signature might have been traced. >> It's off and it's close. >> Mhm. >> The security is a big one though. >> Okay. >> Even though at that point they had just enough evidence to place the suspect behind bars without questioning her, they still decided to give her the benefit of doubt. >> So you want to tell me about what's going on or no? cuz what they're telling me is that you've been to a couple other MC banks already trying to cash checks and they turned you away and they notified other banks and that this is a different signature than typical ones on the account and that the security features are different as well and then it's out of order so it's a bad check. Okay. Who are your three friends? Smile. All right. We're done with the phone right now. >> I I Why you You're done with the phone. You can either put it down or I can take it as evidence. What do you want to do? >> I'm going to either seize your phone or you're going to put it down. >> I can take it right from you. You know that >> because you we're not going to be texting someone else about what's going on. Okay. >> If you pull out the phone again. Listen. Listen. Listen. Stop. You are. Listen. Stop talking while I'm talking. If you pull the phone out again, I'm going to take it as evidence. Okay. I promise you that. I'll go in your pockets and grab it from you. Make sure she doesn't pull her phone out again. If she does, just take it. Okay. Okay. >> Yes. And it's broken. >> Do you have anything in your pockets? >> What was that? >> AirPods. >> Can you just empty your pockets for me? >> And my phone. >> Can you put that phone right here? >> You just stand up for me. I'm just going to use my flashlight and check. Okay. And do you have anything on underneath this jacket? Can you just turn the face that way? >> Okay. I'm just going to keep this for the time being. We'll get this back to you. Okay. I'm going to see what the investigating officer is going to do. All right. Just have a seat for me. >> I'll put it away. >> Okay. I'm not going to go through it or anything. I'm just going to see what the investigating officer wants to do with it. Okay. If he's going to give it back to you, I don't know what the entirety of the investigation is going to come out to. >> All right. I'm not going to go through it. I'm going to stand right with you and I'm going to put it right in my pocket. Good. I am standing here with you right now. I'm not going to go through your cell phone. I'm just keeping it in my possession for the time being. >> He told you to do that. >> He told me that if you take it out just to take it. >> But I didn't take it out. >> Well, I was searching for I was searching you to make sure you didn't have any other checks or anything on you. >> Again, I am not >> just check. >> I'm not I'm not Again, I'm not going through your phone. It will This will be his. >> I left it. I left it. I put it away in my pocket. I didn't bring it out. >> I It was on It was on the table right there. >> Remember? >> I didn't trick you. I was just searching you to make sure you didn't have any other fraud checks or anything on you. >> You tricked me. >> Okay. >> You told me if I put it away, I didn't touch it. >> Okay. I'm again, I'm not here to trick you. I'm trying to I'm trying to give you being I'm being straight with you. I'm trying to I'm being honest with you. >> You told me to take it out and I took it out. >> Well, I told you to just put everything on the table right there. >> Yeah. And it was supposed to be a female. So, you're a male. >> I didn't I used my flashlight just to make sure you didn't have anything in your pocket pockets. Okay, that's fine. And I'm allowed to. I didn't I used my flashlight, though. >> All right. I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I'm just giving you just tricked me, guys. He's tricked me. >> Meanwhile, the investigating officer was out in the parking lot questioning the suspect's friends who had been caught trying to flee the scene. But nothing could have prepared him for the ridiculous story they had cooked up. >> Why'd you leave her in the bank? >> No, I I was going to use the bathroom. I had like I still have to use the bathroom like right now. >> But I was and I had to get gas. Like if you if you see my gas is on >> 40 I got like 40 30 miles. >> So I was actually ready to drive home. She was taking pretty long, but I didn't know why, you know. I didn't I didn't speak to her, you know. I didn't know why she was taking long, but I didn't like I didn't think it was a, you know, a police issue, >> you know. So, >> you just left it there cuz you were going to go get gas. >> Yeah, but I was coming right back, you know. She has a phone, you know. Like, so it's not like I was going to leave her in Connecticut, you know? >> Yeah. So, you don't you don't know that you were at like three different banks today? You don't know why you guys were leaving with your friend still in the bank? >> No. >> Okay. >> Like I said before, I only know Ricky. Did he ask me to come along on a road trip? >> Ricky's this guy, >> right? >> Okay. >> Um, I just found out his real name today. >> Okay. >> For some stupid reason, they thought they had fooled the officers with their story. But as the officers rolled out their next move, they realized the joke was on them. >> So, a bunch of blank paper. >> Yeah. >> Printed checks, all the same, unfilled out. >> Yeah. >> With the same signature. >> Sorry. And then they got a bunch of rip checks. >> So you also have like the Clorox and stuff too, the wash checks back here. >> Following the evidence that was recovered from the vehicle, there was nothing left to ask the suspect again. Now it was time to teach the dumb scammer a lesson that would last her two lifetimes. >> You just stand up for me. All right, let's turn around. You're being detained right now. Okay. You can go around all these people. >> We will be back in momentarily for like statements and stuff. You need something, >> can you please? >> You want the window cracked again? Okay. >> After putting her in the cruiser, they turned to the banker who had key information that would seal this teen's fate for good. >> Hello. >> Hi again. So, I actually got a little bit more information also the employee requested about the actual customer. So, I talked to the branch that's in Coventry, and the person that was in here did successfully cash a check at their branch. >> Um, so I just made a copy of that for you to me. And I wrote down their phone number that was made out to the same name. >> And this is a copy of the check that they cleared at Coventry. >> And then this is the information for the account holder, the >> customer. Yes. >> You guys want to press charges or anything, right? >> Yeah. I would I would think so, especially because she got away with it. We uh we have this female as well. >> Okay. Oh, great. >> I know. I saw the big >> present outside. >> And are you able to see how many times they were able to successfully cash checks? >> This is the only transaction. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Uh if needed, would you be willing to testify? >> Sure. >> Okay. >> Thank you for getting here so quickly. Of >> course. Thanks for calling. Like we've never been >> Yeah, it's tough, but >> we just see so much of it. is really frustrating because it's a really negative impact for our customers. So, thank you. >> Thank you. >> And we will have a less event for us tonight cuz you're all done, right? >> Almost. Yeah. I hope your night's not I don't know how much longer you have. >> A while. >> It's all right. >> Thank you so much. >> Oh, of course. At the station, the officers question the suspects individually, hoping one of them might crack. >> I'm not a snitch. I'm not none of that. You know, I'm in for the other people you're with. >> Yeah. I'm not making the case. I'm not going to say anything to put anybody else in more hot water. Sure. I'm a real man. So, I'm going to stand on what I say. I need the lawyer. You're saying he's going to get a record deal for uh he was working for like Warner. He's going to get work for Universal Records and music and stuff. What the hell are you doing now? You better not leave me here. >> Where? >> Don't leave me that $20. Huh? >> 25. >> Yes. >> In the end, they were all charged with conspiracy to commit lasseny and a felony count of forgery. In another case of bankers tricking dumb teen scammers into waiting for cops, this woman thought she could buy her freedom with a ridiculous offer to cops after she and her friend got caught trying to cash a fake check. >> We are here. We got called here because there was a report of a possible crime being committed. >> Okay. What is the crime? >> The crime is a fraud. Okay. Uttering a forged document. Time to cash the fake check. >> Yeah, that's ours. You're going to jail. >> You're deleting things. >> No, I'm not deleting anything. You are on. >> You can't just be police contact and I can help you like maybe a million dollar operation. >> On July the 16th, 2024, Florida cops responded to a TD bank after receiving a report of a woman trying to cash a fraudulent check. They rushed over just in time to catch the suspect who was still at the counter. So, they quickly started interrogating her. >> Hello, ma'am. >> Hello. >> Hi. We need a docky for a minute. >> Okay. I have a thing on this. Okay. All >> right. Can we go over here real quick? >> Yeah. >> Um, at this point, you're not free to leave. Okay. And we are going to be asking you questions that are uh incriminating in nature or could be incriminating in nature. So, I'm going to read your Miranda warning with these rights in mind. Are you willing to talk to us? >> Yeah. Perfect. Like I said, I don't have any questions right this second, but um except for some, I guess, preliminary stuff, but um what are you uh what are you doing today? Um, I was just trying to cash a bond that I received. >> A bond that you received? Okay. Where'd you get the bond from? >> Um, I actually got it from my cousin. >> Do you know where she got the bond from? >> Um, no, I don't. Okay. >> Um, I know that it was from my grandmother who passed away and she just gave it to me and told me that I couldn't do it. >> Okay. It was from It's your grandmother that passed away? >> Yeah, it was our grandmother. My my grandmother passed away. Yes. >> Okay. When did your grandmother pass? >> My grandmother passed away like a year ago. >> A year ago. Okay. And was your cousin hanging on to these bonds the whole time or or how? >> From what I was under the impression she was. >> Okay, I gotcha. When did your cousin get these bombs to you or this bomb to you? >> Well, I got it two days ago. >> Gotcha. Did she give it to you by mail or did she give it in person? >> In person. >> In person. >> Okay. I >> Okay. Do you know um what her phone number is off the top of your head? >> No. >> How often do you see your cousin? >> Um well, I live in Claremont. So, >> oh, you live in Claremont? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I got >> I don't see her here that often cuz I have a son. So, >> Oh, yeah. That makes sense. >> And I'm in school. >> What are you in school for? >> Surgical tech. >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. >> I'm in med school. So >> Oh, very nice. Okay, good stuff. Um, and are you going to families or are you coming from family? >> I was coming from >> So, um I Well, I was home and then I was going to my family and I was actually on my way back home. >> Who's the person driving? And uh >> that's your baby. >> Baby. Whose baby do you? >> She's my friend. >> Your friend. Okay, I got you. Um was she with you all day or how did you baby her baby? >> Um she came up from my >> from your house. Okay, so she went to your family. >> Okay, I got you. All righty. Um did did she know that know that you had this bond and everything like that? >> Um I mean she dropped me off. >> I'm pretty sure I got Did you tell her what you uh you were coming in here for? You just told her you need to go to the bank. >> No, I just told her I need to come in here. >> Okay, I got you. No worries. All righty. Appreciate it. Keep hanging out for me. >> Meanwhile, another officer spoke to the suspect's friend waiting in the parking lot. At first, nothing seemed unusual. Just a woman waiting for her friend. >> Your friend asked you to bring her over here or >> Yeah, cuz her car needs to be um repaired for the brakes and something underneath the bottle. >> Oh, I don't know. >> You don't know what she's bringing there? >> No. >> What happened? She don't try to stick your plate though. >> What happened? She didn't try to stick your plate up. She's not like that. >> Yeah, it's not that. This would have been totally different if we had something, you know. But >> I see you guys are like four cars. Three cars. I see like another car. >> Four. >> Because mine is over there. >> Yeah. I don't know the whole story. So that's why they're trying to figure out, you know, how it's going. She has no idea what she stopped her off at. >> Yeah. Her car is is down right now. >> Where are you guys coming from? >> We're going to c Today's my birthday. We're going to celebrate my birthday. >> Um, if you can, Miranda, >> you want to live? >> No, no, no. I'm It's Everyone thinks, "Oh, yeah. When you do that, >> my birthday." >> Yeah. This is just to protect your rights. Um, >> can I call my >> Yeah, go ahead. >> If you understand these rights, >> and with these rights in mind, are you willing to talk to them? >> We will. embarrassing. >> A lot of people think that, but no. >> No, because listen, I I've had a difficult life and I'm trying to get my life together. Today is my birthday. >> I'm sorry. Was she trying to cash a check or just take money out? >> Um, she didn't have a check. >> It was something from her grandma passing away. >> You said something like what? Do you know? >> Um, I don't remember. It was It was in her book bag. >> Are you getting wet? You want me to get out so you can stand under there so you're not getting wet? >> I can't if you want. >> You got to be easier to arrest me. >> No, I'm serious. Tell me. >> So, right now, I don't know. I just read you those rights, you know, so I can ask specific weapons. Okay. Um, for now, I don't see why we can't let you go unless they, you know, have a different story to tell or whatnot. So, we just got, you know, a call saying that she broke was in this car. So, that's why, you know, you're not freedom. >> It's up to you. Whatever. >> No, it's not funny. >> Because what is this? >> Yeah. >> Has she had any trouble before with all that? >> She's a good girl. >> While they were still talking, the interrogating officer joined in to ask a few questions. And the response he got was so flawless that the officers believed the suspect's friend knew nothing. An assumption that would soon backfire. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> I'm Coral Johnson. >> How you doing? >> I'm doing all right. Um, so like I was explaining to um I'm sorry who the >> Lana. >> Uhhuh. >> Lana. >> Lana. Yes. I explained to her why we're here. I don't know if officer do explain it to you. >> Yeah. So we're working on fraud. So, we're trying to make sure either prove that a fraud did occur or did not occur or at least, you know, find the probable cost. >> What though? >> Uh, what she was trying to cash. So, um, >> was it a check? >> Huh? >> A check. >> It >> I don't think it was a check. >> What do you think it was? >> She said it was from her great grandma or something. >> From her great grandma? >> Yeah. Okay. I got >> her mom gave them all. >> Okay. Did you say where she got it from? Like, specifically? >> No. The original plans for for me to go get a outfit cuz today is my 30th birthday. >> Happy birthday. >> Thank you. And um we were just dibbling and dabbling and I told her like it's getting late. My mom literally I can show you. My mom is like um are we going to make it out to eat? I'm like I'm about to drop Lana off. I told her I don't want to go anywhere. It's raining. My hair is done. She was like he picked me up. It's up to you. thought we'd do something like like today is literally my birthday. I I >> Oh, no. I got you. What we're going to do is try to get through this as quickly as we can just so that way we can get you to have your birthday dinner. So, real quick, um where did you uh and uh Lana meet up at? >> What do you mean? >> Like when you guys first got together today, where was that at? >> Um I was downtown Orlando. We were going to go to this taco spot for Taco Tuesday, but then they said that they um they didn't open until 3:00. So, I'm like, "Okay, let's go." So then we stopped at um another bank. Then we came here. We went to Waw Wa. I was going to go into Ross. >> Before you continue, what was the other bank you stopped at? >> I don't know. >> You don't know the name or anything like that? >> It was It was this bank. >> Another TD bank. >> Do you know um do you know what she was going in that one for? >> No, I don't know. >> No, she didn't tell you. >> I'm literally tired. I sat back. I put my feet up and >> I got you. How long was she in that TD bank for, do you think? Approximately. I don't like >> No, >> honestly, I don't like No worries. I wasn't paying paying attention. >> Yeah. So, okay. So, after after your uh the visit to the other bank, what happened after that? >> Um hopped on the highway and I was looking just trying to find a Burlington co factory, but my DPS is crazy and she's been on the phone with her man the whole ride and we just been listening to music. >> I hate to stop you again. Do you know who her man is? >> No. >> No. You've never met him? Don't know his name? Nothing? nicknames, anything. >> I She just like >> this is my friend. >> I got you. >> Like that is not my business. Like she has headphones on talking to him. So I don't know >> none of the conversation going on. I've been playing Monica. So I really don't. >> Okay, I got you. All right. I'm sorry. >> She She's a good girl. She's a sweet girl. >> No. Yeah. She's very nice. I'm so confused right now. >> Yeah. No, no, I understand. No, she's very nice. And uh I'm getting the same vibe. But anyways, I I hate to keep I'm sorry to keep cutting you off. Um so you guys are on the highway trying to find a Burlington Coke factory. She's talking to her man. What happens after that? >> I went to the boutique. It's It's not It's not a real boutique. It's just a girl that sells like >> Am I going to get in trouble for this? >> Well, counterfeit stuff. >> It's okay. You won't get trouble. She will, but we ain't worried about that. It didn't even have anything my size. So, I was like really >> just discouraged cuz I'm not >> easy to find an outfit because of my size. So, I was just like >> before the night is over, I want to go visit something. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> But there's nothing here. There's a little >> a little plaza. I went and turned into that plaza >> and it started pouring down rain and I'm like, you know what? Let's just >> I got you. Inside the bank, another officer decided to question the suspect again. And just when he least expected it, she dropped a bomb. >> This is not the first case that we've worked this our shipped in particular with these pretty much exact same checks. >> Um, it's an ongoing investigation. Then people just keep coming to the same TD bank with these same checks and they just keep getting arrested. >> Okay. >> Understand? Um, there's a first time for everything. Okay. So, it's time for you to be very honest about where the check came from and who gave it to you, where'd you get it, stuff like that, because you're looking at some pretty serious charges right now. You know that it's not real, right? >> No, I did not know it was >> You didn't know that it was real? >> Okay. So, who gave it to you? her outside. >> Yeah. >> What'd she tell you to do with it? >> She told you to cash it. >> Okay. How did you guys end up linking up today? Like what was the >> It's her birthday today. So >> today's her birthday. >> It is her birthday. So she was like, "Hey, do you want to hang out?" She was like, "Um." She was like, "I like I have her thing where you can make money." And I was like, "Is it is it like thing?" And she was like, "Yeah, like it's perfectly fine." >> When we ask her, when we take her and put her in handcuffs right now, listen, >> what is she going to tell us happened? Is she going to tell us you knew it was fake or she going to tell us? >> She I don't think she's going to tell you she knew it was fake. >> She's going to have some reason why her your name is on it. >> She is. She was the one that put my name >> cuz right now she's saying she has no idea where it came from and that this was all your idea. I'll be honest with you. That's what she's saying. >> That's it's not my idea. I've never done anything like this. I don't I don't do >> understand. I'm a mom. >> I got you. >> Mom doesn't mean you can't go to jail. >> I know that. But she was the one that had somebody do. >> Do you have any evidence of that? >> Like a picture or something? >> Text messages? >> Oh, anything? Cuz right >> like where she asked for my info. >> Yeah, it has to be. >> Yes. Yeah, sure. >> Is this the old one? >> No, this is a real one that somebody cash. >> Like that's an actual real one. That's the fake one. >> You see like she she sent you this. Like >> when did she send you that? >> That was yesterday. She sent me that. >> What is that? What is that asking for? >> That's social security number. Is that so she was telling you what that that was your stuff or >> No, like this is an example of like ones that she did like. >> I got you. Do you have any other messages that go along with that? So how So you tried this at several other banks today? >> Well, she brought me to like like two or three. >> Two or three? >> Yeah. >> And it didn't work those times. Meanwhile, the suspect's friend in the parking lot sensed her cover was about to slip and started plotting a way to escape before the cops uncovered the role that she played. When did she send you that? >> That was yesterday and she sent me that. >> What is that? What is that for? >> That's social security for >> Is that So, she was telling you what that that was your stuff or >> No, like this is an example of like ones that she did. >> I got you. Do you have any other messages that go along with that? So, I'm going to go back inside and uh someone will be back out here shortly. >> What's the probable cause? >> A crime? We're trying to figure out if a crime was committed or not. >> Probable cause of me getting pulled over. Well, you guys >> she got We got a call saying that a crime was committed. That she committed a crime. She got out of your car. So, this car is tied to her right now. So if there's no probable cause for me because she did something. >> We're trying to like that's why the corporal was out here asking and I was asking questions too to see how you're involved. >> Are we saying anything? >> No. I don't know what they're talking about. >> All right. So um my sergeant and I want to ask you some uh some follow-up questions. Before we do that though, I need you to step out of the car just so we can talk to you cuz moving vehicles and active vehicles. >> Okay. Yeah, thank you. >> Over here in the uh covered things. >> Yeah, we we don't want to mess up your hair cuz I know you just got it done. >> You guys need to go in or >> Nope. We're just getting out of the rain so we can talk to them real quick. We appreciate it. We will eventually, but they can let us. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Do you have a card? You got your card? >> Yep. I sure do. >> Oh, her. Okay. Um, she she writed your rights. Um, you understand your right. You will talk and everything like that. You're not under arrest. We got to ask some questions. Okay. >> So, obviously you understand that we are here. We got called here because there was a report of a possible crime being. >> Okay. What was the crime? >> The crime is a fraud. Okay. Uttering a forged document. Time to pass the fake check. Fraudulent check. >> A check? >> Yes. Fake check. Okay. Or other monetary item. Okay. So, we come here, >> they give us some information that there has been a series of events today where people have tried to cash this fraudulent check and it's been unsuccessful and that she's inside and is the one that's been trying to utter this force document that's been trying to cash this fake check. >> So, she's the focal point of the investigation. At that point, you're just the rat. Okay. up until the point where she tells us that you gave her the check and she shows us text messages and images from an email from a phone number uh where these checks were being provided to her where there's some personal information being exchanged to put on these checks so that they could be cashed something along the lines of it's legit blah blah blah. So >> from me or from her boyfriend? >> She is saying that they came from you. M her boyfriend. >> Okay. Why would she tell us it was you? >> Maybe because she's >> Well, it's her boyfriend. >> She's been on the phone literally >> all day with her boyfriend. >> I got you. >> So, if you look at her call logs, she's been on the phone all day with her boyfriend. >> I got you. >> I'm just telling I'm just wanted to ask you because that's what she's telling us. She's telling us that she didn't know they were fake. That she cashed them because you told her to. So, what about her grandma giving a >> I'll try to figure that out myself because apparently that's all a lie. >> No, I just mean she's trying to cover up for her boyfriend. >> Sorry. >> I mean, she she is providing incriminating information about herself, >> right? And implicating you by saying you gave, >> you know, she So, you did not give her these checks. You don't know anything about these checks. her her I know her boyfriend does that type of stuff, but she told me that that was from her grandma that she was going to come with me for my birthday. >> I got you. Okay. Um >> I think her boyfriend >> Mhm. >> and I've never met him. Like I've seen him on FaceTime, but she has earphones in. So that's how she was communicating with him all day. When they realized she wasn't exactly being honest, the officers quickly came up with a way to pressure her into finally coming clean. >> Sergeant, what was that email again that she gave you? >> Uh, hello baby. Luhbabicloud.com or I'm sorry, Gmail. Or no, it was an iCloud. I'm sorry, iCloud. >> Not Gmail. >> So, we sent a search warning to Apple for all the records from that email. My iCloud is my LLC and that's Yummylicious LLC. >> So, would there be any messages between you, her, and Yummylicious? >> No, but I know her boyfriend, and I can't remember what his name is, but she just told me that her son be calling him on the phone. Um, I can't remember his name, but I know her boyfriend. And if you guys could find out her boyfriend's name, the last thing she told me about her boyfriend was that he's hot because the police raided his crib and took ID printers and stuff, but I didn't care to know about that because I don't know him. >> Understood. H. >> And you don't have any knowledge about any of that going on? IDs being stolen, anything? >> No. >> Yes. >> All right. >> Um, still not free to leave. We're still investigating. >> I'm still not free to leave. Can I speak to you? >> Yeah. What's up? >> I don't want to go to jail. >> I understand. >> I cannot go to jail. >> I understand. >> Like seriously, I cannot go to jail. >> I understand. Why? My daughter is going to be devastated. >> I understand. Listen, like my surgeon was explaining to you at when I initially >> I know how this plays out. They're going to come back and they're going to put my hair behind my back and I'm going to go get >> I don't know that. I don't know that for a fact because here's here's >> I wonder I know you guys ran my name. I'm on probation. I know you guys that. >> What are you on probation for? >> Um from 2019. I have 156 days left. I cannot go to jail. >> I got you. So >> I cannot go to jail. >> Right. That's what we're trying to figure out. >> She's a Look, whatever she said about me, that's cool. But she's a good girl and it's the boyfriend. I that that I know. >> Do Do you have any information about this boyfriend that we'd be able to >> I know that it's like Gucci or something, but I don't know. No real name. I don't know him. >> You don't follow him on social media? You've never met him before? Nothing like that? >> Do you know anybody that besides her that's associated with Gucci? Anywhere that could lead us down a breadcrumb trail to >> who is Gucci? >> Gucci's calling you. Okay. What? What's is is it from a phone number or how's he calling you? >> Through telegram. >> Through telegram. Okay. >> So Gucci. >> So Gucci. Gotcha. Okay. You want to answer? See what he says? >> I'm scared. >> Did she get to him first? >> That I don't know. >> That's going to be two against one, but I know that he is her provider and she's probably not going to want I'm no I'm a friend, feel me? Like >> when it comes to women, like even with my best friends, if I tell them don't date a guy, they're still going to date a guy. >> Mhm. >> I'm a good I'm a cancer. Let me just say that. I'm a cancer. So, I'm a good person, but I do not want to go to jail. I cannot go back to get this guy out of jail for a violation of probation. I haveund probably 40 something days left. I want this life to be behind me. Mhm. >> I just got approved for a new apartment. Like, I'm really trying to change my life around, >> right? >> I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't even go clubbing. Nothing. Like, today was supposed to be a family fil day. My Fashion Nova order didn't come. So, I didn't have an outfit. I wanted to look nice. I got my hair done yesterday. And now I'm sitting here in the rain. 6:00 in the afternoon. My daughter keeps calling me. She made a cake last night. >> Mhm. >> It's like >> I I I understand what you're saying. And >> and I know this is my job >> and I know my man, he takes law, so that's why he's trying to educate me, >> but I cannot He's so I'm sorry. >> And I'm so big, but I cannot I seriously cannot go to jail. >> I understand. And and >> like even if a crime is committed, I'm not the the blame. I'm not the fault for it. like, >> okay, >> her boyfriend I know initiated all of this. >> As she was talking with the officer, determined to talk her way out of the situation, she didn't realize how that desperation gave her away. Now, the cops are certain of her involvement, but they needed strong evidence against her. >> Told us her email was this. So, I want to see something here. What's your gun on the front? >> So, she confirmed that her email is just an email. >> Mhm. >> That's not it's not enough to put her behind it. We need to see more from this email. I need proof that that came from that email. Like a >> right. >> No, not that one. The yummylicious cuz she's denying the little baby. >> You mind do these? >> So, this was today. Okay. Today. Happy birthday. >> There's not much like on this Yummylicious one. Like she uses that one more. >> Is her name in Is her name in the little baby chat? The name right here? >> Like no. Is her name in her chat? >> She said it was all your boyfriend that your boyfriend gave you the checks or whatever. >> No, it wasn't. >> He has nothing to do with it. Like I don't >> Did you have any contact with him today? >> Earlier I called him to check on the picture he ate and then I just called him just now to see if he can check for my son or me. >> Okay. >> I need to figure out this one. In one of those videos, it showed a tattoo. >> Yeah, she had a thigh tattoo. >> Is she wearing shorts? >> Yes, she is. >> She just got a thigh tattoo recently. She's >> What did they say? >> Let's go see if it says on fire. >> Now, they finally had evidence she couldn't deny. And as one of the officers went over to confirm the presence of the body inking, they silently hoped that it would be the straw that would finally break the camel's back. And I let her drive my car. >> Okay. >> That's why my shoes were just on the other side. >> Okay. >> Hello. >> You're going to ask me if that was my name. >> Although the tattoo was present, it wasn't enough proof yet. They knew she was playing smart and that it would take more than just a distorted image of a tattoo to get her to tell the truth. Which one did the check come from? It's there. This one. Okay. I was Okay, that's right. That's right. That's right. What about all those pictures of the erasing the social and all that? Where'd that come from? >> You know what I'm talking about? Like where you were you had the it was like marked out on the social. >> While the officers inside the bank were working to get evidence to back up the suspect's claims. The other officers continued talking to the suspect's friend as the investigation continued. >> And the people who work here have their rights. His name is Lamar >> because >> my boyfriend's name, >> middle name is the same as his. It's Lamar. >> It's Lamar. Okay. >> So, I know this has everything to do with him. I'm not saying I'm innocent. >> Mhm. >> But he is her manipulator because he's her provider. >> Mhm. >> If that makes sense. >> Mhm. >> And she's a sweet girl. She's innocent girl. >> Yeah. No, I got you. >> But look, I do have one question. If I am going to jail, can we wait until my people come? uh that is we can't facilitate that. It just depends on how long we're here for. If they show up when we're here, then they show up. If not, then it is what it is. >> What am I going to do? And what would be the charge? >> I don't know. I don't know at this point cuz >> I can't go to jail. >> I I understand you. >> So, can I help you guys? What's >> that's that's what we're trying to do, right? >> Seriously. Seriously, I don't understand. >> No, I No one No one wants to go to jail and especially my >> be so disappointed. I I I can understand that and I I'm not going to sit here and make you any promises or guarantees cuz that's not my place and that would be unethical of me, okay? Cuz I I'm not in this business to make solid promises because with how rapidly things can change it I I would people would paint me as a liar. Okay. Um especially if I think one thing and then and then another thing happens because of information that I don't know about. Right. At this point, like I was trying to explain earlier, is it's not that we are just solely gunning for you, right? We initially when we when we talked to you, we were under the impression that you were just a friend driving a friend, right? And that could still be the case. We got this new information that we have to we have to vet. >> So, nothing. I was eating ice cream for this. >> So, he's taking me to jail. >> Huh? >> He's taking me to jail. >> What makes you think that? >> Cuz she keeps smiling. >> Who? Officer Kelly. >> Yes. >> He was smiling cuz he saw I cuz I was watching him walk out of that little bowl and he laughed and he said I was eating ice cream before this >> because I was looking at him funny cuz I didn't know why he had a bowl with the pink spoon. Am I >> going to go? >> Probably. Just saw some messages from your Yummylicious LLC. >> Yes. >> Talking about these checks. >> Okay. Can we Can we tell >> Giving her instructions on how to cash them? >> Okay. Can we tell where the instructions came from? Did she tell you that? >> What do you mean? >> From her boyfriend, Gucci, that >> if you look up his name, Lamar or something, his house got raided for ID printers and stuff. >> Right. So, so I understand what you're saying, but that's still you. >> Did you change the name >> of what? for the email? >> No, >> we verified it that those messages came from that email. >> Okay. >> Of you giving her specific instructions on how to cash these checks. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, she didn't mention her boyfriend at all. >> She said he has nothing to do with you. >> Can I prove it? I don't know. We're still working on this. >> He just he just called me and I just showed him that he just called >> her boyfriend. >> Yes. He just called me on. She's been on the phone with him all >> Do you have any messages for between y'all two that you would let us see? >> I don't have any. I don't have any messages. >> Okay. Cuz she just showed us from the email you gave me the Yummylicious pictures or I'm sorry instructions from you on how to catch link checks. >> Okay. Did she tell you not to check came from her grandma? >> She called me the check came from you. >> No, it didn't. Came from >> That's neither here nor there. >> She said she said it came from her her She told me it came from her grandma. Okay. >> Then she said that Gucci, her man does all of this. She has ID printers that I'll get some money if I drive her. Then I'm telling her like I got to go do stuff for myself because it's my birthday. >> I got you. So, how about the text messages where she was asking you about it and you sent a bunch of pictures of money uh on your lap and a car that had been paid off, something about a lawyer being paid up. What about those messages? >> I did speak to her about that, but on verbally on >> No, there were some messages. I read it. I read them. I I read them myself. >> Okay. pictures of money, pictures of cash, checks being cash at the bank, stuff like that. You know anything about that? >> I mean, I have my own LLC. I make money. My man works for Rod Wade. That's how I get my money. My car is not paid at all. >> She was proving to be a tough nut to crack. Spinning tails and trying to outsmart the cops despite the evidence. >> So, what about those messages that were directly followed up with instructions on how to check cash these fraudulent checks? Was it was it from her boyfriend? That's what I'm asking. >> It came from your email. The Yummylicious LLC email. >> It came from >> I just looked at it. >> Or it was I'm sorry. It was a little baby@icloud.com. >> She refers to her boyfriend as a yama. A yama. >> Okay. >> He's a yama. >> Do you have is little baby@icloud.com you? >> That's not my >> So why did the pictures have your leg tattoo in the background? >> That I don't know. If I can see her phone, I can tell you, but I don't know why. Somebody got a picture of you holding money >> with your leg because I was talking to her through Instagram. Today she called my phone. >> Her boyfriend and her have been in the chat on Telegram and just now when I look on Telegram, you can erase all the messages. He erased the messages. Then he prompted to call me and I just showed Officer Johnson that he was calling my phone. >> Okay. What does that have to do with the pictures of all the money on top of your tattoo on your bike? I don't know >> cuz you're I'm asking you things and you're just like >> looping all the way around. >> Okay. Because I know that this initiated from the boyfriend. >> Okay. Are you a part of it? I don't care who initiated it, but are you a part of it? Did you know that this was taking place? >> I know she was going >> That's what I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Yeah. >> When we left, did you know about this check? >> I She said it wasn't a check >> or a bond, whatever you call it. >> Well, she had that at the last bank. Yes. >> Okay. Prior to that, did you know? >> No. I do not believe you. I saw text messages and I do I think you are lying to me. >> I think you're lying. >> Okay. Straight up. >> Most likely. >> What is it going to take for me not supposed to? >> Tell us the truth. >> And I'm talking about the truth that we can prove. >> Not your truth that whatever the truth that >> I'm still going to end up going to jail. >> I don't know. It depends. I don't You're not giving me anything as far as your knowledge on this. I don't know what your knowledge on this is. That's what I'm trying to piece together. >> We both spoke to her boyfriend Gucci. >> Okay. >> Maybe 2 3 days ago. >> Okay. And he said, "Do I have a car?" Okay. >> And I was like, "Yeah." >> Okay. >> And he said that I can make some money. >> He said, "You can make some money." Or you both. >> He saw me. >> Okay. He said, "You can make some money." >> His name is Gucci. I just remembered his first name is Lamar. >> Okay. So, what when he said you could make some money, how did he say you going to make this money? >> Um, they were on FaceTime. I was on FaceTime. I was making making dinner and he was like, "Am I going to be free yesterday?" And I was like, "No, I have to get my hair done." >> Okay. >> Then he asked me, "What about today?" So she asked me, "Can I bring her around?" Cuz she didn't have a car. Right. >> And I'm like, "Yeah, I got you." >> All right. And then what else? >> That's it. >> It's not what the text messages say. You're still not telling me the truth. And I'm don't want to stand here in the rain and get lied to you. So you can just go to jail. >> On the call. >> No, I don't. >> So tell me the truth. >> I'm tired of getting rained on. I know you're tired of getting rained on. Tell me the truth. >> I was supposed to make money with her boyfriend. >> With her boyfriend? >> Yeah. >> How? >> No. He said to her driver. And then >> he said something about to go to her house and get something and what's her grandma's name and stuff like that. And we were all in a group chat. >> Okay. >> So there's messages >> her specifically asking you what your percentage cut would be >> and he's not in the group chat. >> No. >> So the the message you had >> explain how there's text messages of her specifically asking you what is your percentage. >> But is there no messages between the boyfriend too because we were all chatting together? >> No, they just came from your email. So let so let me answer my question though. Why would there be a message from her asking you specifically what is your percentage? >> I don't know. >> Well, you answered it. You're like, we split it evenly. >> No, this is that's not messages. I'm telling you that there were everybody >> him. Listen, officer, >> we confirmed it. >> Okay, but we were all in a group chat. >> Okay, >> but he didn't say anything about fraud. He said that they were given from somebody's grandma. >> Okay. didn't say anything about fraud until earlier. She kept saying he's a yama. >> What is that? >> A yama. That's They're from like North Miami Beach or something or something. >> No, a >> I don't know. I'm sorry. I don't know. >> Okay. >> A Okay. Okay. I don't I don't know. I'm a redneck. I don't speak that language. You know what I'm saying? >> Say that. >> It was clear to the officers that she wasn't willing to tell them what had happened. So, >> officer, I do not want to go to jail. >> I understand that. >> If you I don't know the boyfriend's last name, but I'm pretty sure if you can look his name up or something, she said he just got out of jail like two weeks ago and the police raided his house and took Louis Vuitton sneakers and ID from Miami. >> I don't know. >> Okay. I was just curious. >> He said it was on the move. Can I Google it? >> Yeah, I don't care. Did you or did you not know about these checks? >> From the last spot that we went to, I knew about it. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> I understand that. Nobody wants to go to jail. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> You don't have none of the messages on your actual phone? >> On We were talking on Telegram. On Telegram, you could delete messages. He deleted the messages when I opened it. That's when he started calling me just now when I showed you. >> Okay. So, >> it deletes from both ends. >> Yeah, he knows. He know I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing. She said he's like 32 and he hit like $100,000 in PP um forgiveness loan. This is what she told. >> What's uh what's your username on Telegram? >> Um like email associated or anything like that? my telegram. >> For reasons best known to the officers, they stayed patient, hoping that she would eventually slip. But instead, she pulled a wild stunt that they never saw coming. >> All right. Does the profile picture hurt? >> No. >> Florida. >> Oh, snap. Can you go back to it? >> It's Yeah. Yeah. >> Oh, she must have deleted it. Is she on her phone? >> Well, it's on my body can, but >> I don't know. >> Yep. She on her phone right now. >> If she deletes it, it goes off of your phone, too. That's the fair name that she probably delete everything. Can't get rid of iMessage. I know that for a fact. >> All right. >> All right. This is ours. >> Yeah, that's ours. You're going to jail. >> You're deleting things. >> No, I'm not deleting anything. >> I just saw everything I need to solve. >> But I didn't delete anything. Well, I was sitting here googling the boy's name. >> I understand. We'll look at that and we're going to try to uh figure that out. But I saw everything I need to see on >> She deleted it. As we're reading the group chat, everything wipes off. >> Did you not see when he was calling me on in on Telegram? >> I saw, but based on the information he's saying, it tell me >> you won't tell us the truth. So I don't I have no security time. >> Did you give somebody to pick up your kid? >> Okay. >> I saw everything I need to see on Telegram. So >> that's it. >> And then it miraculously disappeared. And you have your phone in your hand. >> I was googling. I just asked him if I could Google. I I'm honest to you. He he can do that. >> We're all the boy Gucci. We're all in a group chat. >> Okay. Well, however, they disappeared. We saw what we needed to see. It's been captured on our body cameras of you sending these messages, getting her personal information to put on these chicks that you knew were fraudulent. She knew they were fraudulent. You're both going to jail. That's it. That's plain and simple. >> Okay. What is the charge? >> Uh, uttering a forge document. >> And is there a bond for that? >> 2500. 2500. So, 250 of each child. What's your criminal history like? Let me ask you that. >> I'm on probation. >> Oh, nope. No bond. You're going you're done then. Sorry. >> Can I Can I speak to you or can I can I help Can you >> I gave you that chance and you lied. >> Is there anything that because I cannot go to jail. My daughter's going to be so disappointed. >> I'm disappointed. Societyy's disappointed. You committed a felony and you lied about it and I gave you every opportunity to tell me the truth and you still lied. I gave you a chance to be the person. >> Is there any way that you can find the boyfriend information? >> We'll work on that. That's part of the investigation. His guilt doesn't mean you're innocent, right? Just because he's guilty doesn't mean you're not you're innocent. >> Huh? >> I'm going to just take off her jewelry and stuff and just throw it in the back. >> I'm not the brain of the operation. It was everybody that put it together. So, >> okay. I'm not innocent. >> Okay. So, you knew more than you said you did. While she was still trying every trick she knew from the rule book to try and get herself out of the situation, the cops decided it was time to teach her friend some hard lessons, too. >> Did I get the right phone? >> That's her second phone. >> Yeah, she was too full. >> Oh, good. >> Bye-bye, both of them. You got anything? They might need take up. >> Oh, here. >> Could have been I'll put All right, y'all two going to be cordial cuz y'all going in the same car. She's blaming me. >> All right. Well, I'll have Gilbert transport her and >> then I'll just tell Sergeant Cody they ain't going to need the PT van. If if he say no, then they got to go together. >> Yeah, that's as long as there's no >> Yeah. As long as they're not fighting. That's why I asked. >> All right. Um, go ahead and take her to your car then. Just hang by with her. Um, Gilbert, go ahead and uh put her in your car and just transport her back to the PD and Kelly will take care of the rest. And then she got property. I'm >> sorry. >> You got property? >> My car? >> Well, the car is going to stay here. >> The car's getting killed. >> Oh, you're going to tell Oh, I was going to tell you my go there. There may be evidence. >> Oh, no. That's my husband's wallet. Please, please, please, please, please. That's my husband's wallet. Please. >> Well, we're going to get a search warrant anyways. >> Wallet and he has worked. Please. >> All right. Come on. So you're not out here seeing this? >> All right. You good? >> Yeah. >> All right. I'll roll down the window when we get I know it's raining. >> No problem. >> As the consequences of her action stared her right in the face, the officers expected some sort of remorse. But like a typical dumb scammer, she decided to use her scamming skills one last time. I can give you valuable information that is bigger than me standing right here in cups in that one little flimsy thing. I'm telling you >> who? John F. Kennedy. >> No. >> And I can't release you. You're on probation. >> Listen. Can I >> You're on probation. >> I'm sorry. You are on probation. >> It can't just be police contact and I can help you like maybe a million dollar operation. >> Well, while I would appreciate that, my apologies about people on probation are what they are. Okay. Please don't tow my car because that's the only way my daughter could get back and forth to work. >> Okay. >> So, listen. >> If I give you guys information on where they originated from, can I not go to jail and you guys could do your I mean your fraud bust? >> I can promise you this right now. You're going to jail. >> Yes. >> Search her in that car real quick and I'll stand by the car. There is a whole bunch of fraudulent checks that have come to this bank here recently >> and they all look a lot like the ones that she had. >> Okay. Hey, >> Mr. Johnson, let's talk to Johnson. >> If I can help you guys, is there any leniency for me >> for that? That'll be up for the state attorney. >> Yeah, that's our choice. >> If the the state attorney can most definitely uh uh cut something with you if you if you provide more information to the the the higher ring. >> Okay. Hey, did she ever mention her boyfriend again? >> Hold on. No, I can't make her. She gave us the information about you. You gave us the information about her. She admitted to her wrongdoing. You admitted to your wrongdoing. You guys are both going to jail. That does not mean that her boyfriend will not at a later date based on the information we have. And this investigation is going to continue. As of today, the only people we have problem cause the charge is you and her. >> Okay, you can step step out real quick. >> Me? >> Yeah. >> She's going to search you. >> I'm going to search you for real. Do you have anything on you? Nine's guns. Nuclear weapons. I got you. >> Give me turn around for me. But my car can't get refer evidence. >> Your car. So you're right now your car is getting towed because uh we're going to complete a search warrant on it. >> She was later charged with organized fraud while her friend was charged with organized fraud and uttering a forged check. Just like those women who got caught trying to pull off a scam scheme. Three teenage serial scammers ran out of luck after several successful scam schemes. >> Atlanta, please. >> I'll explain to you in just a second. Okay. >> They're using multiple cards. He's obviously not Kenyon. I didn't just stop you. I saw you use a card a few times. Try to use it. Ducking in and out of back seats. Okay. On September the 5th, 2024, Atlanta officers responded to a Wawa after receiving a call from one of the store's employees reporting that a teenager, Adrian, was engaging in suspicious activity at the payment terminal. When they arrived, they immediately arrested him before he could realize what was going on. But while they were placing him in cuffs, they made a discovery that raised questions whether he was just a scammer or something more. Atlanta, please. >> We got the other ones here. >> Oh, hey now. >> Hey now. >> Hey now. >> Where'd that money go? Did it take it back in? >> It's right there. >> All right. Hey, >> funny. Let's go. This guy's all zeroed up, too. Wearing a mask. >> Uh uh uh. After arresting him, the officers approached his friends who were still parked in the lot. They probably had no idea their friend had already been caught, but the moment they saw the cops walk up to their car, they immediately sensed trouble. >> Hey, step by the car. I'll talk to you real quick. >> All right. >> You got a gun on you? >> No. >> Where's the gun at? Uh, it's in the trunk. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Here. Come here. Come here. We're going to take this stuff off. Got me. >> Yeah. >> You're just being detained. All right. >> All right. Your phone. >> I'll explain to you in just a second. Okay. >> All right. Any other guns uh in the trunk or just in the car just in the trunk? >> Yeah. I just left up the gun range. It's in a uh back seat. Hey, sir. >> Hey, sir. >> How you doing, sir? I'm officer Range Atlanta Police Department. You want to step out of the car for me? We'll talk to you, explain everything in a second. Switch arms be detained. Okay. Yeah. >> Anything else in the vehicle I should know about? >> Just smoking a little bit or something. I got picked up. >> What's up? >> I just got picked up from home. >> Okay. Whose car? Is this your car? >> Uh-oh. Okay. Is this friend's car? >> Yeah. Got you. Okay. You >> want in the back seat? Yeah. >> We're just going to walk over here. I'll bring your phone with you. >> This is your car? >> Yeah. Come on over here to this car. Off to here. What kind of trouble, too? We got two units on. >> What's your name? >> My name is Kan. >> Quesan, I'm just going to punch you down. Make sure you don't have any other guns on you. Okay. Right over here. >> So, I see the holster, but no guns, right? >> No, no guns. It's in the trunk. >> That's fine. You just ask him. Face my car. I'm going to take the holster off you real quick. Okay. >> Okay. >> I'm just going to patch you down. Make sure you have another weapons or anything on it. You got your ID on you? >> Nah, I just know it by heart. >> I'm going to pull your pants up a little bit here for you. >> What the hell happened? >> We'll tell you in a second. We have >> I'm trying to overdraft my car for some gas. >> Is that what it is? >> Yeah. >> You got a bunch of cash in your pocket right there though, bro. >> No, that's $300. >> Yeah, but why you going to overdraft your car for gas then? >> Cuz Navy Federal let you overdraft up to 225 >> and they don't charge you like a fee. >> No, the thing is your card going to go negative after 2 days. >> So, you're just like floating the money? >> Yeah, I'm doing Apple Pay. >> I got you. Face my car real quick. >> I got Navy Federal. It's my personal bank. >> Figure all that out. So, right now I'm just going to have you seat here real quick. >> Yeah. >> You're not under arrest. You're being detained, right? I take everything out. I'll get you. >> What the hell? They thought I had multiple cards. >> I don't know. That's what they're saying. >> So, you only have one card you were using? >> Yeah. One card. Swear to God. >> Real quick, let me get your name. >> Do you have ID on you, sir? >> My password. >> Your password's out in your pocket? >> Yeah. You face the card for me, sir? >> You carry your birth certificate around? >> Had an interview today. Really? >> Okay. Where at? Um, health food market as an in store shopper. >> Do you have a Florida driver's license ID? >> Uh, I I never had ID. I left my my permit a long time ago. >> Remember you issued one before? >> Yeah. Yeah, I got one. I lost a long time ago. >> The crooks kept lying to the officers, pulling out every story they could think of from their so-called playbook without imagining that the officer's next move would send their entire castle of lies crashing down. You say 1012. Yep. >> Run that. >> They're using multiple cards. He's obviously not Kenyon. >> Give me the channel for one more minute. >> That car is yours, right? >> Yeah. All right. And the tag goes to that car. >> Yeah. Hang on. If it is, I'm >> I'm on slap E right now. >> I got you. Is the car running or no? >> Yeah, it's >> still running. >> All right, real quick. So, I'm going to I want to talk to you more about everything, right? But since you are in handcuffs, I'm going to read you your rights. Doesn't mean you're under arrest. It just means since you're being detained, I'm ask you questions, you're aware of your rights. >> Yeah. I want to check me and make sure I ain't got no other cards and none of that. >> Well, I'm going to I'm going to read this to you first. So, what what was going on with your whole card situation? >> All right. So, uh basically, if you uh we trying to get fillups right now, right? >> Mhm. >> So, you know, you could overdraft up to 225 >> with Navy Federal. >> Yeah. the Navy Federal, any bank account. >> Okay? >> Like say you got uh PNC, anything. >> So if you uh put the card in, say you got like $2 on your card, you could overdraft some of it 100, some of it 200, 225. All right. Mine 225. So boom. Say we don't got no gas. We don't want to pay for gas being cheap. If you put it in there, if you put the card in there, if you do it from the inside, it's not going to let you do it. >> The the pump is like credit. So if you put the card in and then you take it out, it's gonna take the money that's on there, your $10, and it's gonna keep going and it's gonna stop at 100. So if he give me $20, I like overdraft my card and just pay it back later. I got Navy Federal though. Okay. Like my card you're using is Navy Federal. >> My personal account. No, it's his card. >> It's his card. >> Yeah, but Navy Federal do it and Fidil do it too. PNC do it. Chase, everybody. >> I'm saying but the one today was Navy Federal. >> N Fidil his card. My Navy Federal Navy Federal. >> Which card we using at the pumps today? >> Oh, I ain't using no I ain't used no card. He only the only one who used the car. >> Uh, headquarters at another tag. 75 Bravo Romeo Bravo Charlie. >> Do I have all the tags for you when you're ready? >> Go ahead. Please corridor. Adrian Bravo 26 uniform uniformity to Billings 204 November. >> These two cars. >> So here these were found in there too. So >> these guys Oh, look at this here. >> So >> yeah, he's going to have a gun, too. >> They saw Joey pull up. So there's going to be a there's going to be a handgun in here, too, somewhere. >> 320 320. >> Yeah, there's another mag. Yeah, I haven't checked that trunk either. Yep, here it is. After Joey showed up, >> just when they thought that they had seen it all, the officers uncovered something even more shocking. Something that raised a whole new set of questions in their minds. Here was a detective. He's a massive police officer. And another one here. So these these guys are all here. Yeah, I'll take a better one after. While the search on the suspect's car was still ongoing, the officers decided to interrogate that suspect. But he was a smart teen scammer who knew just how to change the focus of the situation at hand. Is that yours now? >> Or is it heavy stolen headquarters at another 75 Bravo Romeo Bravo Charlotte? >> Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> We're just going to take a seat here. I'm not going to close the door. I'm just going to leave it open. All right. Go ahead. I'll text for you when you're ready. >> No. Any warrants out for your arrest that you may know of? >> No, sir. Never been to jail either. >> Okay, cool. >> I'm going to the military soon. >> Okay. Which uh branch? >> Uh I want to go to the Marines. >> Okay. I got a couple Marines here, so that's cool, man. >> Where? >> Uh >> I can stand up real quick if you don't mind. >> Yeah. That gentleman over there, the tall one, >> that's a sergeant right there. >> He's not a sergeant. These are for here. He's just an >> So why is his yellow and yours is white? >> I'm not worried about you, man. So why is the yellow What's the difference between the yellow? >> Just sit down real quick. No, don't worry about >> What's your first name, brother? >> Adrian. So what's the difference between the yellow? His name is yellow. Your and yours is white. >> You said Adrian. I'm a detective. He's a master police officer >> and sergeants also wear yellow. >> Okay. I I see I knew something a little bit. >> You say Adrian. A D R I A N. >> Yes, sir. >> You have a middle name? >> These these guys are all here. >> You want to take? >> Yeah, I'll take a better one after. >> So, let me go. >> You ever been or stabbed? >> Yeah, I have before. That's That's what delayed my marine process the first time. >> Okay. Where do you live that you get at? >> Huh? >> You know what I'm saying? >> That's why I'm telling you I'm I'm go one day >> hopefully. Man, where do you stay at? Where do you live? Like what area? >> I live over there in Sanford. >> Sanford? >> Yeah. With my girlfriend. >> All right, cool. Was that you did it yourself or did somebody you do you do that yourself or somebody you >> myself? >> Yeah, that seems like the angle. >> I didn't I didn't know what I was doing at first. I was young and dumb. >> When was that? >> Couple years ago. Was that here in Orlando? Was it somewhere in Sanford? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Cuz I mean I I do get calls. So you had it in here and came out here. >> Yeah. >> It's wild, bro. >> Did I hurt like a mother or what? >> I drove I ain't drove I took myself to the hospital. >> Damn. What's all this about? >> I believe it has to do with credit cards. That's my That's what I know as of right now cuz that's what I the initial what I got. Like I said, the detective, the one that was talking, he's the one in charge. >> No, he's just our NPO. He's just helping out the detective. The detective is the one that's running the show. So, he'll over there. >> Yep. >> Once he gets a minute, I'm sure he'll explain everything to you. Just, you know, depends on how you talk to him and obviously cuz he doesn't really have to explain anything. But if you're cool with him, >> you know what I mean? >> Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. You know your rights, man. >> Yes, sir. 21. >> Muslim in my home and I think that we got a number. >> And you anything to talk to me? >> Okay. That's why I'm telling you. I didn't just stop you. I saw you use a card a few times, try to use it, ducking in and out of back seats. Okay. I see a a tag that's not attached to the car. All right. So, so it makes me think, right? Yes, sir. >> And then I see you use an ATM. What's on ATMs? Right. Cameras. Why would you want to conceal your identity on a camera? Cuz you're doing something illicit or wrong. >> No. >> Just across the parking lot, cops were still interrogating one of the suspect's friends. Unlike most guilty suspects, he had managed to keep a calm composure. But that didn't make his story sound any less ridiculous. >> That's right over there. >> All right. Well, let me talk to the detectives out here cuz the one that saw y'all, so I know what you're saying and everything. I'm going to pull up. You got a Florida ID, right? >> Uh, it might be on my car, >> but I'm saying you have one in Florida. >> So, I'll pull up with your name, make sure everything's good on that. Yeah, >> we'll take it from there. Okay. You any questions for right now for why you're detained? >> No, I just suspect. >> Yeah, I I know. It just looked like we was just doing a lot of at the pump. >> Yeah, a little bit out of the ordinary. So, >> I said we had it looked like we was using five 10 cards, but we literally had to like like sometimes start tripping. But >> So, who's who's the other dude? >> Oh, I don't know. Somebody who was just with me. >> So, you don't know the other guy? >> No. >> Okay. So, the one that you knew was in the car. Not the white. Not the Spanish kid. >> No, I know the Spanish kid. >> You know the Spanish kid? You know, you don't know the black dude? >> No. Okay. All right. Watch your feet real quick. I'll turn on the AC4 and everything. >> That's crazy. I didn't even have not one card in my in my hand. And they just blitz me like that. >> Why would we blitz you? >> Huh? >> Why would we blitz you? >> I was right there with my boy. >> What were you wearing? >> Oh, yeah. My mask >> and and >> your hood up, right? >> Is it like Is it like 100° today? >> Yeah. Yeah. You and >> you see me like this in this nice cool shirt and these pants, I'm sweating. >> That's always That's always how I walk around. >> Doing some [ __ ] >> I saw you in and out a bunch of times with that car. >> What were you in the back of that in and out of the back of that car right there for? >> My car. >> Which one's yours? >> The Infinity. >> Okay. Show him how to overdrive. >> Overdrive. >> Yeah. >> How do you How do you overdrive? >> All right. So, look. Boom. All right. So, I got Navy Federal, right? >> Uh-huh. Navy Federal let you overdraft up to $225. >> What What's your name? >> My name Kan. >> Kan. >> Yeah. >> What's your last name? >> Billings. >> Billings. >> Yeah. I'm supposed to be going to get my girlfriend for work at >> Where she work at? >> She work at a hospital. >> Okay. Medical center. >> Let me figure all this out. >> All right. >> The gun. Did you throw that gun into the trunk when you saw the cop pull up? >> Oh no. You want to know what's crazy? >> Is that pulled over? >> That Glock was just sitting in the middle of the trunk. >> Cops did it. I had that's why I had the holster on me and the gun. >> How long ago? >> Uh probably like it was a while ago. >> So you didn't just come from the gunner range? >> No. Okay. >> I ain't go to the gun yet. He put the gun in the back. >> All right. >> At the same time, the cops were also talking to the suspect's second friend, and he stood out like the only lily in a field of thorns. >> Hello, sir. >> Hey, man. What's your name? >> Keon. Keon. What last name? Just say it for me. >> Oh, Steven. >> Okay. What's going on today? I told you what's going on. I couldn't go to the interview. I can't tell you my interview this morning. I caught my job. So, I was going to I'm looking for >> Asia. Where were you in the car? >> Huh? >> Where were you in the cars? >> I was in the passenger seat. >> You just sat in that passenger seat the whole time, right? >> Yes. >> As of right now, you're not in trouble. You're just detained. Okay. >> I just want to check my >> So, I'm right now I don't think you're a suspect. Okay. I want this to be clear. >> All three suspects were charged with felony grand theft and felony possession of a firearm. Just when you thought teen scammers couldn't get any dumber, this 18-year-old walked back into the bank just hours after successfully cashing a counterfeit check, ready to make yet another withdrawal. >> I've got you trying to cash checks for $1,500. Got a couple different branches. One was here this morning. Like I said, man, these scammers, this is what they do. I want to know who's the mastermind, who's organizing all this, who's doing all that. On May the 22nd, 2024, Florida officers responded to a report of an ongoing check fraud. When they arrived, they learned the banker had cleverly stalled the suspect while waiting for them to show up. >> Hello. >> So, this is Deputy Gerber. >> Mhm. >> Just want to talk a little bit about you, >> Captain. I've got you training cash checks for $1,500. Got a couple different branches. One was here this morning, so I have that one right now. and we did do it for you cuz you're an existing client of ours quite a while. You've never had any issues. But then I also ended going to multiple other branches cashing the same checks from the same person for $1,500. It just kind of looked more suspicious. So we were looking at it more. >> I understand. >> Yep. You >> I mean I know I did the two. >> I did give my car to somebody for a while. >> Okay. I won't tell y'all who cuz you know I mean at the end of the day y'all can put it on me so I never throw nobody up under the bus. >> Okay. >> So yeah. >> You said that was your aunt right that wrote you those checks. >> Mhm. >> All right. How old are you? >> 18. >> Okay. So here before we go much further I'm going to read you your rights. Have you ever had your rights read to you? you have. Okay, that's fine. I just I'm going to read them to you. So, after having your rights read to you, do you wish to speak to me? You don't want to You don't want to speak to me. Okay. All right. So, can you stand up for me? >> Can I put my hand up real quick? >> Yep. That's fine. >> And actually, real quick, since you're being comp, I'm going to definitely need you to take your cell phone out of your project. Is there anything else in your shorts at all? >> Uh-uh. >> Okay. All right. Can you turn around for me? All right. Can you turn it kind of backwards? Like Yeah. Just like that. And like that'll be probably the most comfortable for you. All right. >> At that point, she realized she was on her own and there was no sense in trying to protect her accomplice. After a moment of hard thinking, she made a quick flip. >> With that in mind, are you willing to answer a few questions? >> Sure. >> All right. Thank you. >> So, first question is, how did you become in possession of that trip? It was given to me. >> It was given to you by >> I can't tell you the name. >> Can't tell me the name. >> I don't know. >> Just met. >> How y'all met? >> Outside. >> You just met him outside? >> My boyfriend. >> How did you get here? >> This one. >> He told me. Pretty much the person >> they just gave me the check like it's from me. >> Just let you got me. He told me it was his glo. >> So he told you it was his. So you believed him? sort of kind of >> he had money >> what he did this. >> So what what he got money what does he do stuff scammer? >> No he works >> where he works at where he works at >> can't tell me. So, but you going to get yourself caught up with some shenanigan, man. Some dude that up there. You say you didn't know him, but where he works at though? >> It's just a coach. Just a coach. >> He's a coach, >> but I don't know where. >> Football team. >> Yeah. Talk very much. >> So, how long you know how long you know this dude? >> Not long. >> What's that? Not long. A week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, a month, two months. >> A week. >> Just about >> a week. >> Yeah. >> But so how y'all plugged up? How y'all connected? >> Just met. >> You just walking down the street like, "Hey, what's up?" >> Yeah. Like met at the store. >> So when when was that check written out? He hand it to you written out. When did you write it when you got the cash up to the front? He wrote back. He wrote her back. >> When you sign it back, >> I signed the back. >> When you sign it back when you got here. >> So why you protecting this person if if he's doing all this and you're risking your name for the sake of what? >> So $1,500. How much he he cut you? >> I don't know his name. >> What I'm saying though, if he >> I'm not trying to go to jail. I just turned 18. I don't even have a record, >> right? >> I don't want to be in this situation. If I knew old boy name, I would have told you about it. Like I said, man, these scammers, this is what they do. They got innocent people and do this type of stuff and you get caught up. Old boy probably give you his real name or whatever. He probably give you a nickname to run with >> or or you can know him. You just don't give him information. What kind of car you doing? >> See, >> it was the wife. Yeah. >> It was the wife. >> I can't deal with this. I'm not trying to go chill with that. >> So, how many people was in the car? >> Huh? >> How many people was in the car? >> Two. But he was the only one that you feel me? >> Who? He was the only one. What? He was driving. >> Yeah. >> So, who was in the passenger? Your boyfriend? >> No. Yeah. >> It was my cousin. But he's not involved in this stuff. >> He has to be involved in some type of way. >> He was just there for a ride. He is not involved. >> So why he why he ain't tell buddy to stay for you or go see what's going on? I mean, if my cousin my cousin went inside, somebody took off with me. I'm like, "And what the hell? Why all y'all left? Why you left my cousin? Let me out." >> He already got his own little things going on. >> So, he knew what was going on there. >> At first glance, she came across as completely honest, but the officer's instincts told them otherwise, but they decided to play along for now. >> No, but he wouldn't put himself in no position to go back to jail cuz he wasn't involved. Simple. >> Just old boy. >> They don't want to give a old boy name. >> I don't know his name. >> You got no nickname something. >> You can't tell me you met somebody. Y'all y'all didn't exchange no name or nothing like that. You ain't going to do this type of work for him. >> Yeah. Is just like starting to talk like he don't even know my name. >> So a whole week I just Hey, what's up? Hey, what's up? Y'all don't address nothing. So he texting you. >> No, just see him with my skin. >> So they got to be it got to be a middle man, man. It don't make sense at all. So y'all just randomly meet just bumping into each other every time. >> I mean, it's not like we met a week ago, but it's not like we just like >> if you met a week ago, >> you had to communicate somehow. We end up seeing each other at the store. It was like and I was telling him about my check and he was like, "Oh, I got you. I got something for you." That's what happened here. I >> mean, right now looking at 4,000 charges. >> How many? >> Four. >> Four. >> Four. invest. >> Oh, you got to see a judge tomorrow morning and he's going to set a bond for you and you could choose to pay the whole amount or pay 10% of that. Then bond's going to be in a couple of thousand just to let you know. So, how many time beside this check, right? How many how many other checks he gave you? >> Two. >> Two more. >> Yeah. Those two were depositing your account. >> Yeah. >> All right. You can leave that door open. >> Yes. >> Um all at this bank. >> What other bank? >> 60. >> And where else? >> That's it. I didn't have my car full it what am I even doing anyways let me just tell >> I don't know his name like that serious >> but he be on that >> he's on scammer >> okay so who's the middleman >> I can't tell you that cuz that person doesn't deserve that cuz they're not even doing nothing they just sit You got to understand though if >> you got some organized thing going on, right? And you are the least person that's right. >> So you are basically like the bottom of the bottom, right? No disrespect, but so you like the bottom fish. You're not the person that we I really want. I want to know who's the mastermind, who's organizing all this, who's doing all that. You just the lower end that's going to get caught >> cuz that person know eventually this going to come back fraudulent. You go inside the bank. You don't think they got surveillance in here. >> I mean, I would think you know that too, right? You would have known. You know that too also. That's a that's a risk you took also. >> But things he told me like >> like these are not fake checks. These these are my checks. Got you. >> But you got to understand if it's if it's his check, if it's the legit, why is he why is he not cashing on his account? Why did he have to get somebody to do it for >> That's true. When I damn I should have paid more attention. I just don't know his name. >> So, if I was to find that vehicle, do you think there would be more dope? Would there be more trucks inside that vehicle? >> When she heard that question, she went blank for a second. She somehow knew every word counted. And now she was torn between telling the truth or spinning another lie. Maybe >> other stolen stuff in that vehicle as far as fraud stuff. >> Maybe. Yeah. >> Where would it be at? >> I don't know. You just have to check. >> All right then. Um No, you don't want to tell me nothing else. >> I don't know anything else. >> I'm just asking. I'm just asking if you if you want to tell me what it was from. Like I said, so far I have nothing. I can't I can do my investigation, try to figure it out, but >> I got nothing. >> All right. >> All right. Give me a second. >> After speaking with the suspect, the detective stepped outside the bank for a moment. And to his surprise, he came face to face with someone he didn't expect to see. Is M coming? >> Hey, how you doing? What's up? >> Is M coming or >> M? Yeah, he's going. This is mom. >> Hello. How you doing? >> Hello. >> This is the detective. >> Yeah, I'm not working this, but I I just came and try to talk to her. >> She going to jail? >> She is. >> Do you know who she hanging with? >> He just told me about some dude. I don't even know who the that could be. >> She said one of them was She said one of them was her cousin. >> That girl go to school and go to work. She's supposed to be at work right now. It's 3:00. >> She did mention something earlier about needing to be at work. >> Going to lose your job. You work at a nursing home. >> Which makes me nervous where she's getting these checks cuz this is I hate to say it. This is typically how it happens. >> What the This is driving me crazy. I just don't understand. I mean, they got to make their own mistakes, though, right? >> How you knew she was here, >> huh? >> How you knew she was here? >> I got a phone call. She text me and said, "Mommy, I'm going to go to jail." >> As the detective spoke with her mother, other officers prepared to escort the suspect who suddenly felt the cold grip of regret wrap around her. >> This person standing out front, are they with you? >> That's That's her mom. >> Okay. So, >> she's still up there. Oh yeah. >> Are you pregnant or have any health issues? >> BPS tomorrow. >> You got to learn from your mistakes. >> You don't have anything on you in your pockets. No, nothing. Mom has it all. Okay. All right. Just be careful. Getting Don't say to nobody. Keep your mouth closed. >> Are those um groupers? >> I'mma call you. >> Where's your phone at? Got her phone. >> Okay. How the phone [ __ ] work? Is it still good? Yeah, I got I have >> the phone when she's in booking is free. It's free in booking, but I don't know. I think so. >> I have a good fence with her, Bob. I don't know. Did you get a hug or any of that? I I told her she's been >> She didn't want a hug. >> Didn't want a hug. Okay. I just want to make sure. >> Yeah. Do I want to hold it? >> You going to go It's going to be cold, baby. You going to get a taste of this. You going to have to learn, sweetheart. I love you. >> Don't cry. Don't cry. Thank you. >> Are you going to follow me there? >> Don't cry. Can you wipe my face first? >> Don't cry.
