And I like push her off me and then when I push her she that's when she like puts me in a choke hold and I'm like I'm like get the f off me. [music] >> Once said thank you for a Christmas gift and everyone said thank you for staying up. >> The coffee cup end up busting her lip. What occurred for that to happen? >> I'm not sure if when I went around to grab her if her coffee cup slung up. >> Okay. Sometimes the same kids whose innocence [music] once charmed their parents turn out to be capable of manipulative schemes so extreme that they end up getting their own parents arrested. >> Hit him with a knife. >> You almost did. >> No, I did not. You're lying. No, you're lying. Have a right to protect. >> I got a video bully the elderly. That's what you you've been bullying me ever since you've been here. >> Can't believe y'all going to lock me up and these kids was bullying me. Here are several heartbreaking moments when manipulative kids get their innocent parents arrested. Starting with Addison, a troubled teenager who called the cops on her own mom after pushing her own mom to the edge of insanity. All because her entitlement wasn't satisfied. >> I got mad. She knows I am. I get mad and I never put a hole in her wall before, but I did today. I'm in and out for aation running away and getting burner phones and sending and all this stuff and I and arson. I set a fire in my dad's house >> today. She set me off because she put a hole in the wall and was laughing about it and so I slapped her and then she proceeded to fight me back and I fought her back. >> But June the 10th, 2024, as the sun was rising in full strength, Newton County deputies rushed to a home after receiving a call from a 14-year-old who claimed his sister's life was in danger and that he needed immediate help. When they arrived to ready the rescue, they found a scene already marked by chaos, [music] including a hole punched through the wall. A detail that hinted that this situation wasn't as [music] simple as the call had made it seem. >> Sheriff's office. >> Hi. So, what's going on? >> Um, can I get this >> dogs? Come on. It's >> No. Please, please, please. >> Okay. >> Please. So, what's going on? >> She No, no, no, no, no, no. Please. >> What's happening? >> I put a I put a hole in her roll and then she jumped on top of me. That's when I was kicking her and I was trying to get off. >> You did kick me. >> I did. I just said I kicked you. >> So, what what's your name? >> You need any kind of medical attention? >> I don't know. [laughter] >> All right. You said what's your first name? >> Addison. >> You put a hole in the wall. >> I did. How did you do? >> I got mad. She knows I get mad and I never put a hole in her wall before, but I did today cuz she was getting on to me and I shouldn't have put a hole in her wall, but I did. >> And then after you put the hole in the wall, what happened? >> She ran towards me and then when she was on top of me and hitting me a few times, I started kicking her and she held me down and she kept hitting me and I was screaming for my brother Caleb, but he was asleep and couldn't hear me and she locked the door. >> I'm going to have you stand up. Okay. >> Okay. >> Was it just she punched you in the face? Yes. >> I don't know what she did. This is just the outcome. I wasn't really looking. I was holding my face. >> Okay. Piss. >> All right. We're going to figure it out. And you tried yelling out for your brother. >> I did. And then after she told me to get out, I ran to his room and locked the door and told me to hide in the closet. >> She locked you all in the room. >> I locked myself in the room. >> No, I mean whenever you started calling out, you said she locked the door. >> Yes, you did. You said the door was locked. Stop lying. >> Okay. All right. Just talk to me, [laughter] >> Addison. Just talk to me for now. >> I locked the door in Caleb's room and you locked it in our room. >> Just talk to me for now. >> I can't do [laughter] this. I can't do this. I can't do this. [clears throat] [laughter] >> I hate you. I can't believe you would do this to me. You promised me you would never do this to me. You promised you wouldn't be like your dad. And you did. >> Are you on house arrest or what? [laughter] >> I've been in mental hospitals all year. I'm in and out for ladies and running away and getting burner phones and sending and all this stuff and I and arson. I set a fire on my dad's house. That's when I just got in there for and I just got out. >> Okay. All right. Come on. >> I don't know. No, [laughter] no, no, no. >> Addison, come here. We're going to step over to the ambulance. Okay, I'll step over to the ambulance. [laughter] Please. >> The officer immediately shifted his attention to the mother, who wasn't just disappointed, but appeared emotionally numb, worn down by the [snorts] exhaustion that came from watching someone she loved [music] turn on her, pushing her to an emotional breaking point and throwing her under the bus. >> Is there some more quiet I can get? >> So, tell me exactly what happened. >> She got angry. She didn't get fit like she usually does. She put a hand on the wall. We've been dealing with her for several years. She's sociopathic. She has no consequences for her actions at all. She's proud of herself setting a fire and faded away. >> Okay. What about today? That's what I needed. >> Today she set me off because she put a hole in the wall and was laughing about it and so I slapped her and then she proceeded to fight me back and I fought her back. >> Are you injured anywhere, dear? >> I'll be fine. >> You sure you don't want to be checked out or anything? >> No. I mean, I'm nauseous from where she kicked me in the stomach, but I don't think I have a bruise or anything. And her right eye, she's had a black eye since she left the facility. >> So, she just got out of the facility. >> She just got out of the facility and had a black eye on her right eye. >> Do you want her transported this morning? And >> whatever she wants is fine with me. >> Okay. >> So, dad's supposed to take custody of her? >> Yeah, Dad's taking full custody. I'm done. >> He's on his way here. >> Yeah, he's 5 minutes from here and he's already on his way. >> We can wait. >> You get No, she didn't. She kicked me in the face, but I don't think I got I don't know. I haven't I've been >> Did you have makeup on previously? Is that >> I do? Yeah. >> Is that your son? >> Yeah. >> Where is he at? >> In his bedroom. >> Does she have any medical history? Like, does she take any medicine? >> Yeah, she's she's uh she has a lot of psychiatric problems. >> Okay. Do you think that's what caused everything today? >> Probably. >> Probably. >> It's what's caused everything else. So, >> okay. >> What was she diagnosed with? >> So, she's a sociopath and she's got bipolar type two and she has anxiety, depression, ADD, and insomnia. >> She on meds? >> Yes. >> When was the last time she took a meds? I don't know if she took her morning meds this morning. >> Okay. >> But it was last night if it wasn't this morning. >> But she does take them. >> She takes her meds. >> Okay. How old is she? >> She's 16. >> Oh. >> Oh. >> Yeah. I'll be back in here. You were asleep, aren't you? >> The deputies had been skeptical from the start. Something about the story wasn't adding up as they continued to question what they were told. They began to uncover other pieces of evidence. Evidence that told a completely different [music] story from everything that they had heard so far. >> Inside and mom was given a report. Mom said that she already had a black eye on the right side from leaving the facility. Dad just said that was not there yesterday. >> Oh crap. >> That's That's fresh. Nose is bleeding too. >> That don't look like that just happened yesterday. That look like that's fresh fresh >> to my opinion, but he does. >> Well, I mean, dad just confirmed that that wasn't there yesterday. Mom have anything? >> Um, her eyes. It looks like she's I asked her if she had makeup on. It's not swollen. It looks darker up under her both for eyes, but I asked her if she had makeup on cuz I could see it dripping down and she said, "Yes." >> What's the mom and dad? They married together? >> No. >> Separated? >> Yes. >> So, he doesn't live here? >> No. >> Sir, are you dad? >> Yes, I'm dad. >> Can you step out and talk with the deputies out here? >> Yeah. One sec. >> Okay. >> What kind of relationship do you and mom have? >> It's always been amicable until the past week and all of a sudden she's kind of cured out. I don't know why. asked her >> and >> it's apparently something for the guy she's dating is not going well. Something they got this morning. >> She's got mental health issues, too. I mean, she's bipolar. And >> so, do you still have custody of >> We're 50/50. >> What about son? Is that true? >> Thank you. >> Okay. >> All right. Today, are you going to be able to take them? >> Yes, I've got them. And she's already said she'll give me full custody now. So, we'll deal with that after the fact. But yes, I I'll take them. >> I guess my question is, when was the last time you seen Addison? yesterday in the car. She was out here like this. >> Okay. About what time was that? >> Noon. >> Noon. So about 12:00. >> Yes. I just saw she was sitting in the car, but I would have noticed. >> You were just right from when you saw your daughter yesterday until you came out here today. Basically, the main thing I need to know is her eye condition. >> Armed with the new intel, whether it was trustworthy or not. The officers decided to take the investigation in another direction. This time, they hoped the scene itself would give them more information to work with. >> Hey, Caleb, let's be clear. Your mom hasn't told you to say anything. Nothing like that, right? >> She hasn't uh said for me to say or don't say. >> Okay. So, what what all did you catch? What did you see here? >> So, I woke me up, told me to call her more mom. So, I did. She told me to get hide in the closet. Now I had her mom uh had to door and um you know she was staring you know mad at her and he just said um just open the door and um I'll come in there and I just uh open the closet door. >> She got in like your sister got in the closet with you? >> Uh no my mom got in the my room because I >> So Addison went into the closet. You came out? >> No, I went into the closet and he was still out the closet. I came out the closet, unlocked the door, and then mom came in and then she said, "Go to your room." And she wouldn't. She just um, you know, like yell a couple times, just spanked her a little bit. >> What do you mean spank her? >> Like a little bit. And then she told her to go in the room and then she left and then she got in the room. So yeah, that's what happened. That's all I know. >> When's the last time you saw your sister? >> Yesterday. >> What did she look like? What did her face look like? Did she have any bruises, either? I think she had like a black eye. >> He thinks she had a black eye yesterday. >> Yeah. But now that could have been >> That's what I'm saying. >> I was thinking about my brain's all thr. But yeah, she was with Addie was with me on Friday. >> Yeah. >> And she did not have did not look like that. >> Friday. >> Yes. So Friday cuz she was we had to get her ankle monitor placed >> right >> on Friday. So she was with me all morning. He tried to talk to your son, but I think your ex-wife kind of got hope to him because when he walked there, they were sitting down together talking. So, he tried now he's saying that there was a black eye there yesterday. So, did Addison call you once everything happened? >> Felicia called me before. She just called me 10 minutes ago and said, "Come get her. It just happened." I hit her. I slapped her again. I slapped her. So, I slapped her again. Said, "What happened?" She said, "Just come get her." Conflicting intel kept coming in from different sources, throwing the scene into chaos. The officers turned to Addison, hoping to grab even a breadcrumb of information to figure out what actually happened. All along, it was clear that Caleb, the younger one, had no injuries from being disciplined. Not because of luck, but because he always had been a well- behaved kid. >> I'm today. She's been leaning off one of her meds. I don't know which one, but she has bipolar. She has depression, anxiety, and a lot of other things. And so do I. Yeah, I just got out of my mental hospital for setting a fire and I had one more chance and then I go to Judy and I don't know what I'm going to do right now, but I put a hole in her wall and she said, "You're acting just like your father." And my father's been hurting her a lot. And so I punched the wall and I said, "Never say that again." She said, "I'll say it if it's true." And then I was on the floor after she kept beating me and I was kicking whatever I could kick. I don't know if I kicked her in. She said I did. I don't know. I just I was kicking whatever I could. This isn't the first time this has happened. This is the second time. Her boyfriend broke up with her last night and so I slept in her room with her to make sure she was going to be okay. >> Last night. Okay. >> This happened this morning. And as soon as it happened, she was like, "If you walk out that door, then I'm sending you back your dad just to my dad." And so I felt so scared. I didn't know what to do. So I went I ran to Caleb's room and I told him to hide in his closet and I grabbed his phone. I'm not allowed to have a phone. So, I used this phone. I called 911. And she's lying, saying that all of this was here yesterday when all this is still trash. She did it today. She said she slapped me, but that doesn't make sense. She didn't slap me. This wasn't compassed with the outcome of this. >> Why was she saying that you were acting like your dad? What were you doing that made her? >> Apparently, I didn't want to be around her even though I was around her all day. And then I said, she was like, "I'm sorry. I'm going through my struggles." I'm like, "I've just been in and out of mental hospitals all year and I'm going through too." >> How's the relationship with mom and dad? He hasn't really done something like this ever. He's narcissistic than me. >> So with mom and dad, like are they okay? >> They're divorced. They've been in a big argument recently. >> How recent was that? >> Like constantly now presently. >> Oh, they're still at odds with one another. Okay. >> They're still in argument. I will tell the truth. But she says, "I punched her. I never punched her. I kicked her cuz I was kicking. I was frantic. I was trying to kick whatever I didn't do. But no one ever believes me at anything. That's why I'm trying so hard. No one believes me about my dad cuz he hasn't done anything like this to me. But I can't even live with him. I can't deal with >> And why is it that you can't live with your dad? >> I don't. >> He's way over there. >> I don't trust him. He's very narcissistic. Like he only cares about himself. And he threatens to take us away from him all the time, even before she did this. He just wants us to himself and he'll do anything for it to happen. He just scares me. >> Hey, you don't feel comfortable talking with your dad around. So just kind of like make sure that stays okay. >> Gotcha. All right. Got you. >> I ran away from mom's house. I at mom's house. So that's why he wants to take us away from her. But she never did anything until now. She said this before, but it was very small. And it was because I deserved it. I called her a I deserve to get a beating for that. And and it wasn't like this. I was just a black guy. And then I punched a horrible. This only happened twice, but that first time I deserved it. I'm not saying she did that out of wrongness. She I deserved that first one. I don't think I deserve the second one. I don't deserve all that. I didn't deserve all this. >> She had tried to paint her mother every ugly color she could. But no matter how hard she tried, her own character kept shining through. The officers shifted focus to questions about the dad. And what came out opened another complicated chapter. One that made it seem like maybe Addison herself was [music] part of the problem. Going back to you going with with your dad's, do you, outside of him already making pre-existing statements about him wanting to take y'all from mom's house, do you feel like you're going to be in harm's way by being at his house or you feel your life is going to be in jeopardy or something? Or is it just that you just don't like the way he >> and mentally because in mental hospitals and it's mainly because of him. Physical stuff is because of involved mental emotional stuff because of dad and defects has been involved numerous times and they don't believe me. It's very tiring and so I just gave up. >> Okay. >> Hoping that they would just send you back to school cuz for a long time they didn't have me at school. They didn't have me in doing anything. I was just out. >> You're back in school now? >> Yeah. And I have an ankle moni. I just got it on yesterday. >> Let me take a look at your neck cuz you saying that she tried to me and I just want to take >> No, she didn't squeeze hard. She had her hand like right here. Like she was I put my chin like this. >> Okay. You believe you have any bruises anywhere else? >> No. I mean I was covering my hand with my arm so I don't feel like I have any bruises there. That's the only other place. >> You mind lifting your sleeve up just so I can see real quick? >> These are not from her. >> Okay. >> Because of my dad. This is why I can't I I'm in her harm's way as well because of my dad. Because of my dad and I'm in harm for my mom because of my mom and I don't know where to go. >> Why are you at home? Because your dad What does your dad do that makes you? >> He just yells a lot. That's one of my triggers. Okay. >> He will claim he's like, "I haven't yelled at all recently, but you have my mom lies saying that this all happened yesterday." And my dad lies saying that he doesn't do anything wrong cuz he's narcissistic. Of course, he doesn't do anything wrong. The whole world around him. And I love both of my parents. I love them both so much that I don't want them to get in trouble cuz I can't be with them anymore. I don't want my brother with them. I trust my brother and my dad cuz he doesn't My dad doesn't do anything to him. >> We're going to talk with the parents real quick and go from there. I know you're 16 technically since you're >> I'm 16. I'm 16 October 24th. I keep saying I'm 16. You're 16 in about 19 days or something. >> Okay. Ultimately, it's going to be left up to your parents on whether or not they want you to go to the hospital. He already said yes. >> Okay. >> Does she have any like neck bruising that anything that she possibly do >> consistently on the neck? No. There's no cuz she's pretty fair skin. There's no hand print anything like that. But there is redness down the center. There's some redness here as well. Hey Addison, when you were in the room with mom and the incident was going on and you're saying that she you >> I don't know what she trying to Her hair was right here. >> Okay. >> And it seemed like she was trying to close me up or she was I don't know what she was trying to do. >> Were you on your back on your side? You were laying down on your side. >> I was on my back and then I could turn to my side and I was trying my back like the whole time it was just switching off and on. >> Okay. So, were you able to say anything when she had her hand in the end? >> Did she say anything the entire time this was going on? What was she saying? >> She was saying stuff like, "If you you walk out that door, I'm sending you back to your dad." And she doesn't want to go back there. Or she was like, "I said get off of me." And she says no. And she says some other things I can't remember. I know she said other things cuz it hurt me really, really bad. >> Okay. >> Addison definitely needed love and guidance, but she wasn't the only one. Even her mother needed help. And she deserved [music] some credit for trying to raise a self-absorbed teenager whose every decision lacked empathy, like a ship drifting without a [music] compass. Even though the officers have other ideas. >> Everything occurred in mom's room. >> Where's your mom's room? >> Right there. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Everything happened in here. >> And blood. >> She said her mom is on meds as well. >> She did not say that. >> She said she's by schizophrenic. She just got off her meds and she just had a breakup with a a new boyfriend last night. >> Okay. [music] Yeah. Dad said it was a rocky relationship. She wasn't sure what was going on with the mom and her new boyfriend. >> If we can step outside and talk is Can we step outside? >> Yeah, absolutely. I wasn't supposed to stay in. So, >> it's okay. She's She's in the ambulance. So, it's Y'all are separated. >> So, right now you're going to be under arrest for battery friendly violence. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. So, I'm going to be going to the back. Can I put a bra on or no? >> Can you what >> bra? Like can I wear a bra to the facility going to or >> um >> shoes or no? >> You're not going to need that. You going to have to take it off. I'll transport. >> You will? >> Yeah. Okay. >> You're going to have to take that off and undress in into some other clothes anyway. All right. So, you don't have any weapons on you, anything like that? >> No. Nothing in your waistband. >> Okay. All right. You can have a seat. right now her charges his battery from my understanding family vibes because obviously her eye your daughter's eye I mean that's and nose >> that is um pretty swollen and red and bleeding and stuff like that so we we can't turn a blind eye to that we did not do the arrest in front of your son I took him upstairs and talked with him they brought her outside that way he didn't see that part I haven't told him that mommy got him >> yes I'll put that in your hands but if you want to go in there tell him to grab some clothes cuz he's used to coming over your house. >> Yes, he's got everything in my house to do. >> Yeah. So, if you want to tell him to grab some shoes and that you'll be coming with him for a minute and that way you can tell him about mommy because uh Yeah. >> Hey, he got some injuries to your scalp. >> I didn't know. >> Okay, I'm going just take a look. >> That's really pretty. It's just over there. It honestly like I could see a lot of that uh rug rash and throughout her scalp and that bruising. But when I saw that I thought it was it looked like a dog bite or something like something at her but she said her mom has nails and it feels like mine. So that would make sense if that's what it is cuz it looks like something like her. >> Do you believe it's fresh? To me it looks almost like it's forming to be scabbed over a little on her head. Not the ear. The ear looks fresh. >> Yeah. I mean, it's scabbing over a little bit, but it was bleeding still whenever. >> Okay. You're saying it was bleeding when you got Okay. Yeah. All right. >> Is my son with my husband? >> He's with a dead. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Eventually, the mother was charged with battery and firstdegree cruelty. Addison's case was awful, just like the next grandmother, whose struggle [music] didn't come from age or time, but from manipulative, unruly grandchildren who just never seemed [music] to know when or how to stop being a pain. That's what you you've been bullying me ever since you've been here. >> You have no boo I took you. >> Well, then why did you claim you sold dis >> I'll get out and I'm going to prove my case and I'm going to wind up in jail because of you. On August the 11th, 2023, deputies rushed to a home after a 63-year-old grandmother, who had just gone under the needle, called for help, claiming that people inside her home were hellbent on sending her to an early grave in a very unexpected [music] way. >> Hello. You think he took your pills? >> I know he [snorts] did because see what he did? He claimed he sold my Roxy for See, my daughter controls them for me. I have to take two a day for my surgery. Uh-huh. >> He come in his daddy's room claiming that he found a pill by the bed. I had it in my nightstand drawer and now it's gone. He told me he sold it to Mr. Phil for $5, which I know is a lie because Mr. Phil would not do that. I know he took it. And as far as the knife incident goes, my lawyer says I have a right to defend myself. I've never uh hit him with a knife. >> You almost did. You did not. You're lying. No, you're lying. You have a right to protect. >> I got a video. She trying to stab me. >> I had it in my hand, but I did not. >> She had it today. She came in the room. She said, "You better get my pill before I stab you." That is not today. >> Stop lying. >> All right, just hold on. We ain't lying. Oh, God. >> That's all you do is I knew he took it. Then he told me it was a quantity. All right, I put the quantity and show it to me. >> I took it already. It's not. Yes, it is. I got more than you thought. Tell me about the knife incident. >> Was today or the other day? >> The one today. >> Oh, today. So, she came in the room and and she said, "Where my pill at?" She br a knife. She said, "You know what this is?" I said, "Yeah, a knife." And she said, "Stop messing with me. Get my pill back." And I said, "I didn't have no pill." >> Okay. So, did she threaten to stab anybody? >> Yeah, us. Him too before. >> If you didn't take your wife and try to get Mr. Bill involved, >> you need Malcolm. >> You know, it's against law to bully the elderly. That's what you you've been bullying me ever since you've been here. Judge H putting him in YDC for a year. >> No, it's not for us. >> Yes, he is. >> My lawyer talked to me. It's for a week. >> My daughter and I was afraid this was going to happen. Y'all be ashamed. >> Why the police told me that? I didn't tell you. >> Yeah, he did. >> I didn't. You have no proof. I took it. Well, then why did you claim you sold Miss? >> I know >> I said I told you it >> that was yellow. >> You say you wish we was never boring. What are you talking about? Yeah, you did. >> The officer knew the next step was getting written statements. [music] But what he got was far more than he bargained for. >> This right here filling everything that basically that's happened today. >> Yes. >> They're saying that a knife was full. You said that you had a knife. I need statements from each person on what exactly occurred. >> All right, y'all can go to the back of the car and fill it out up there. You can fill yours out right here. Just write what occurred today in this box. If you need another one, I'll see if I can get another one. >> Oh, and I forgot to also put on there. He bullies me on a dayto-day basis. James Hman already put that in the statement. When he come out here, >> he won't leave me alone. And when I tell him to get out of my room, he won't do it. But having him put our YDC, he don't want to do nothing. And he's also destroyed property over here, too. Busted my window. >> Tore my door up. >> It's like a year ago. >> It don't matter. You still did it. >> Are you the one that originally lived here? >> I've been living here for 23 years. >> Okay. >> My neighbors will tell you I don't bother nobody. >> What's the phone number for you? >> I don't have one. Where' the ambulance go? >> What ambulance? >> I wanted the ambulance called out here >> for what? To >> be seen at the hospital cuz I just had surgery. You want them still? >> Yeah. Get them out here. >> All right. How old are you? >> I'm 23. >> You're 23? >> Yeah. >> I look older there because my hair wasn't colored. >> You're 23. Born in 19. >> I mean, not 23. I'm 63. >> 63. >> I'm sorry. >> 23. >> I think I got a little bit of dementia, too. >> Okay. >> They going to put me on medicine. >> Did you complete high school, go to college? Anything? >> I didn't go to college. I went to 12th grade. >> My handwriting change. my hand right there. >> This guy is on a car. >> She came in the room, said I stole her Roxy appeal. And then I told her I did it. So she went in the front room, got a knife, came back in there, threatened all of us, and we just came outside. So this is an ongoing thing between y'all. >> Yeah. Oh, he bullies me too. >> You >> Well, my concern is the use of the knife. >> Well, that will never be pulled again. >> Okay. >> Five days in a row. Well, you Well, no, it was no five days and you shouldn't have threatened me. >> We did it. >> Yes, you did. You threatened me. I know what you threatened. You told me you wished I would. That's a threat. >> She trying to She said myself. I had >> You're damn >> I got the video. >> I don't have no >> I don't have You said I already That's why I don't have >> Yeah, I know. You think it? No, you're the one that's mental. >> Oh, I don't want to get myself over. >> No, it's not that I'm depressed. I'm tired of being radio. >> Oh, you're a damn lie. You bully me every day. >> James already told the law that you bullied me, so don't lie. >> We're not bullying you. >> All right, just wait on the steps. You guys stay down here. >> After a short while, paramedics arrived on the scene, but that didn't [music] slow anything down. If anything, it gave the officer a front row seat to just how belligerent these little monsters could be. So, basically, I got called here in reference to a pill that was supposedly stolen and sold. Well, she seems high to me, but she's wanting to get checked out, I guess, cuz she had surgery or something. Okay. >> Is what she was saying. >> Okay. >> She's claiming that the taller boy here stole a single pill. >> Just one. >> Yeah, just one. But she is blitzed. Not on alcohol. >> You threw that. >> You hit that truck. >> Oh, you in trouble, bro. If you watching that windshield, >> you hit it for real. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. >> You did. got hurting. >> Bro, he totally broke the windshield. >> You better pray nothing's broken. >> Go to jail. >> I've already got her witness statement. I got their witness statements. Dad's asleep inside. >> He didn't say none of this. >> No, he didn't see that. He was sleeping. >> You got a video or just audio? >> But he he's seen it before. >> No, not a video. >> She's seen it before and he came and saw and she went this other day, right? Jane was in a swim room, right? got that bushing down. J was like >> it was like three times in a row she tried to stab >> J was like don't go back to that night. She said I don't give Jake. >> So that's Teresa hard. >> Yeah, she's high as hell. >> And what' she do with the knife? >> Just came upstairs put it to my chest and then I got up and left. Came outside. >> Is that what How long ago was that before I pulled up? >> She had to walk all the way up there to call the police. So probably like 30 minutes. >> They let me out here at the road. So >> And what's she saying? I mean, she didn't deny it. She admitted to having a knife, but her statement says that something about not going to pull it again or something. >> She she eventually pull. >> So, obviously, you guys give her a hard time. >> But that still doesn't excuse the fact to grab a knife. You don't know who she's related to. She just lives here. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Her daughter lives here, too. >> Yeah. Our mom. >> Our mom. >> Okay. Well, that's why I said who she related to. Was she here the other day? >> Yes. >> Yeah. But she leaves at 3:30 to go to work. >> Okay. So, she just held a knife to your chest. She never tried to slash or nothing. >> Nope. >> You guys know this stuff on the ground. >> If if go away, we got to buy pain. >> Well, that's one thing. But if they actually see that, they will. You understand that, right? >> Who cam? Cam lives over there. >> No, I'm talking about the others. >> No, not everybody else. >> Well, that's what I'm saying. You don't have to come over here. >> There's a lot more than you think. Be careful. >> You have to delete this. >> This is what I can do. >> You got money? Go buy some paint remove or something. paint over it because you never know who drives by, sees you out here, and just decides that's an easy target. How you doing, sir? So, basically, all I got to tell you is what's going on. So, evidently the mother-in-law pulled a knife on them. They all three have the same statement. She didn't deny the statement. She said that she won't pull a knife again. Leaves me to kind of believe what they said. So, here's the deal is I basically had to tell you what's kind of going on. If she shows back up, you need to call us to come back out here cuz we're going to take her to jail. Okay. >> It's a serious matter. So whether or not there was, you know, an argument or whatnot going back and forth, it's besides the fact she shouldn't have had a knife, >> right? >> I just got to make sure you're staying here the rest of the night. >> Yeah. >> Okay. They have to be with an adult. Had to make sure you're aware. So other than that, that's about it. >> All right. >> But uh yeah, if she shows back up, call. >> All right. Appreciate you, sir. >> The welfare check ended, but the drama didn't. Later that same evening, deputies were [music] called back to the same home, prompting a drastic decision. >> Me? Why am I going to jail? I ain't do nothing. >> I know y'all. I know. Exactly. So, my mama's going to jail because he does bully and I can make five phone calls right now and I got I understand. I wasn't here tonight cuz I was at work. But I I I I think it I think it should be both. >> Okay, ma'am. Listen. >> Listen. Listen. Right now it ain't it's we've done a number of reports on your son. >> We're limited to what DJJ can do and you know that we explained it to her. Right now we got to deal with your mom tonight. Okay. >> We do this on a per occasion situation. We'll come out when it happens. So tonight your mom was in the wrong. >> Yeah. I was here so I don't know what happened. >> Okay. All right. Well like I said we're going to get her. We're going to take her. She'll have a bond sometime in the morning. >> How much do you think it's going to be though? She can't even do a property. >> It'll be on a judge. Okay. It's not something that that I'm privy to. It's not something we decided to pay to see or go to jail, you know, but I don't know what happened. You know, I can't say, but like I said, I could call five witnesses. They'll tell you boys are >> We're not disputing anything you're saying. Okay. >> I know. You know, I call y'all all the time because these boys are bullies who won't go to school. You know, I had to go to jail for someone didn't get a bond out. And you know, I'm not going to go to jail for him not going to school. I mean, I'm trying to do right. I go to work every day. I told her she was going to jail over. Y'all just get back. >> Uh, yeah. About 20 minutes ago, I had to miss five. >> She said she stayed in the bed. She's not coming outside. >> Hey, Teresa. >> Yeah. >> Hey, dear. Go on and get dressed. Okay. >> Look, this boy been bullying me. I got witnesses. >> Okay. Do [clears throat] you want to ride with what you got on? Was that what you want to do? >> I can't believe y'all going to lock me up. And these kids was bullying me. Well, I'm not disputing that they're bullying you, but like I said earlier, you can't pull a knife on somebody. >> I didn't pull a knife on him. >> Missing that chance standing there talking. >> You got some flip flops or house shoes? >> I'll get out and I'm going to prove my case and I'm going to wind up in jail because of you. You need to get band to tell. I already told them I got five witnesses. We got witnesses back. But I wasn't here, mama. So I can't say what happened. I can't say nobody's but I know bully you >> since my mama's going to jail. You're going to jail tomorrow. >> I don't give a arrest me. I don't >> No, she tried to get me in trouble for >> I ain't do nothing, bro. Okay. >> Nobody. >> I have not hit him with a knife. >> Okay, dear. Come on. We're not Listen, we're not having court here. Okay. >> You'll get to see a judge. Okay. >> Yeah. >> I know he had told me something about a knife and she admitted to it. I mean, I told the truth. I had one, but I didn't use it on it. He was bullying me and I have a right to defend myself. My attorney said I had a right to defend myself. >> Mom, I told you what you need to do because I already told you what to say. I can't give advice cuz I wasn't here tonight, but you need to tell the judge. You got five witnesses. You do bully grandma. >> I did not try to stab you with no knife. I didn't touch you with that knife. All I did was have it in my hand. God knows I'm telling the truth. >> The elderly victim suddenly became the suspect. But it didn't stop there. Her daughter still had [music] plenty to unload on the officer. And little by little, she exposed the real dynamics inside that household. Well, here's the thing. If you're having issues with him, you have to call so we can at least document it. >> I've been doing it >> with him bullying and stuff like that. Yeah. It'd be elderly. >> When they when I get off, they're telling me this. >> But that's what I'm saying. She's not calling. She called today. Yeah, cuz she ain't got a phone. That man over there took her phone. >> Mhm. >> And they're getting him for mental. He didn't take my mama to the doctor for 5 years. >> The woman was charged with aggravated cruelty in the first degree and two counts of cruelty in the third degree. [music] The grandmother got played dirty, no doubt, but it paldes in comparison to the moment a working mother got a visit from the police. All because a manipulative and careless daughter didn't get her selfish way. >> I know it's not good, bro. She make me crazy. She talk a lot of all the time and I say, "Stop. Shut up. You need to clean the salon." She don't clean the salon and I push the stuff and I say, "Oh my god, clean." When she talk, I'm crazy. I said, "Oh my god, I everything for you." >> On October the 21st, 2024, police were called after a woman got into it with her daughter over money. When the officers arrived, they met the mother who walked them through how a day that started sweet in the salon had quickly turned sour. >> You're Shayla? >> Yes. >> Are you the mom? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Do you work here? >> Both of you work here? >> Yes, we the boss, not my daughter. >> Okay. >> So, what happened? >> No, we have problems because she don't like it clean. She talk a lot of with me. I say, "Relax, darling, please." Now I can go. She want to take everything. >> Um, she told me all the time, "Oh no, this my stuff. This my stuff." I say, "Okay, I put the money. I have have." So you She made me make me crazy and I put the >> You hit her. >> Yeah. >> Did she hit [music] you back? >> Huh? >> Did she hit you back? >> No. No. No. She don't. She never She never touch me. Never. Okay. >> In my life. But she make me crazy because she talk a lot of [ __ ] I work every day seven days a week. I put my money in here. She put the money. So this salon is half and half. Now she told me she go to New York last week and she told me, "Oh, maybe you put the cash in your car." I said, "No, never. You can check my phone." I never >> So both of you work here? >> Yes. With the boss together. >> With the boss. Okay. And she thought that you took money. >> Yeah. And she told me and I'm angry because I say I don't touch never money because we need pay the salon. >> Yeah. So that's what the argument was today. That's what you guys were fighting about the money. >> Yeah. >> And then you hit her. >> Yeah. >> How many times? >> No. I said I don't talk to the money. What are you talking about? Oh my god. >> Did you hit her more than one time? >> Yeah. Maybe. I don't know. >> I know it's not good, but she make me crazy. She talk a lot of all the time. >> Okay. >> I'm the mom. I work everything. She and me. I don't know what happened. >> Okay. So, you hit her in the face. Looks like Did she Is that how she got her mark? >> I don't know. >> Okay. Did you hit her in the face? >> And then >> Did you What? Did you pull her hair? >> Uh-huh. And I hit it in the >> So you pulled her hair and hit her in the face. >> Yeah. >> Did you hit her anywhere else? >> Did you hit her anywhere else? >> No. >> No. >> Okay. And that's your daughter, correct? >> Yeah, she's my daughter all the time. Everything good, but she's very stressed and I'm very stressed because it's the the business is very slow. >> I know it's not correct. But she talk a lot of I never touch the money. I said you can check my bank. Okay. >> The money is in the tickets. So, she say, "Okay, I called the police." Okay, it's okay. >> Okay. Do you have um ID on you? >> Was there anyone else in here when that happened? >> Was there anyone else in here when this happened? >> No. No. >> No. Okay. My passport. >> Do you have a driver's license or no? >> No. Do you drive or no? >> No. >> No. >> She's very stressed. I'm very stressed because the salon is very slow and we need to pay rent. We need to pay the salon because the last lawyer, >> okay, >> they charge charge uh 70,000 and I put it have and half [music] >> money and now we need pay 7,600 for this 20. So she's stressed and I'm stressed and she say you touch the money. I say no never. Why you think this? She live to she go to New York sometimes for one week and she think you I told you the money I say no everything is in the car. >> Do you guys live together? >> Yeah. >> Physical before? No. >> Okay. >> My country name. >> What did you come from Mexico? >> Yeah. How long have you lived here? >> 3 months. >> 3 months. And then you moved here and you move in >> by 3 months. >> Okay. >> You're trying to get this this business up and running, but it's kind of a struggle. Okay. >> So far, it had been nothing but pain and anguish, but the law saw things differently. Even though anyone with eyes could tell someone had poked the bear, and Mama Bear had finally hit her breaking point. >> And she didn't hit you back at all. She didn't push you or anything? >> No. No. She never [music] touch me. >> Okay. >> I never uh have problems with my daughter. >> Yeah. >> In my country and he never know maybe it's a lot of stress and she talk a lot of and I'm make me crazy and I say stop. Shut up. You need clean the salon. She don't clean the salon. And I push the stuff and I say oh my god clean. >> So you own it with her and one other person? >> No. [music] >> Only me and her. >> Just you and her. Okay. And it's it's it's struggling. Not too many people coming in here or No. No. >> No. >> Cuz the salon is new. So, >> how long have you guys been open for? >> No. >> How long have you been open for? >> 3 months. >> Oh, 3 months, too. Okay. >> Okay. Hopefully business picks up. >> Hopefully business picks up so that you guys can be successful. >> And we do everything. She's she do everything. And I pay a lot of a lot of class for well she know and I pay a lot a lot of class in Mexico and here >> like for cosmetolog like for school to do nails. >> Yeah. Nails microb blading body scul massage everything. I pay everything all the time. So when she talk sh today I'm I'm crazy. I say oh my god I pick everything for you. What are you talking about? I don't touch money. >> Yeah. I don't use alcohol. I don't use I don't use nothing. She She don't use nothing. So, >> do you keep money in a safe or something? How did What? Why did she accuse you of taking money? >> Because I say, "Okay, this is mine. This is mine. Okay. I don't have no more problems with you. I'm leaving. It's okay. I I uh my stuff I And she and I say, "Oh, you remember $2,000 two weeks ago? I buy the the stuff. And she said, "Yes." Okay. I need my money. I know you don't pay my money. I want my stuff. That's it. And she say, "No, you have this money because I got new job and maybe you charge in in cash. So maybe you 8 days you can't you um you have my c the cash." I said, "I don't have the cash. I have only in card. You can check my phone. what are you talking about? >> Yeah. >> And she said, "No, yeah, you I'm crazy." And I said, "Shut up. Stop." >> So, you bought all this stuff and she thought that you were like holding cash. >> I paid $2,000 uh $500 two weeks ago. And I say, "Okay, this is my stuff." Because I know the money you don't give me back. >> Okay. Oh, okay. So you bought them with like your own money or company money? >> No, [music] my money. >> Your money. And she thought that you were taking the company money. >> You She thought that you were using the company money. >> Uhhuh. She think I use the company money. I said no. >> Okay. All right. That I see that now. Are you guys closed for the day? >> No. >> No. What's that? >> We open elementary and we close 7 >> 7 days maybe. >> Okay. [snorts] >> Is this somebody's birthday? My son. >> Your son. How old is he? >> 14. >> No. >> Is it just Do you have a son, a daughter, and do you have any other kids? >> Two daughters and one. >> Okay. >> While one responding officer took notes on the crucial details, another officer arrived and inquired for answers on how things had reached that point. Recounting it all wasn't easy, especially when the sting of betrayal came from the most unexpected of places. >> All right. I know you kind of already explained everything to the officer here. You kind of want to walk me through what happened? Okay, tell him what you told me about what happened between you guys. >> She's my daughter and she buy the salon with me together. >> Right. >> The salon is 70,000 and we pay only cash 45,000 3 months ago. And I told with the last owner and I say, "Can you wait for me three more months?" And I said, "And I paid 20 every 20 the rest." The lady say, "Yes, I work every day with my daughter. She's she's um she's not married. Sometimes she go to New York. >> What happened to like what happened today? >> Eight days. Okay. Last week like the last week last week she go 8 days to New York for vacation. >> Mhm. >> Now she don't want to clean. She don't want the garbage. And I say please Karly clean because I'm tired all the time. I clean. >> Okay. >> And she say no. She's hungry and I say we need to pay the rest this 20. Okay. You don't speak. >> Okay. A lot of stress with with the business. >> She f Exactly. A lot of stress with the business because we open seven days all the time. No people. We need to pay the rent the rest the money. Okay. >> And she said, "What? What start? >> Oh my god. maybe when I go New York you you got the money in cash and I say no Carly I never touch the money and she make me crazy because she say she talking a lot of I say okay don't worry don't pay me my money this is your salon I want my stuff and I'm leaving it's okay >> you said you were leaving >> yeah I said I'm leaving you wanted a salon okay I know my money is never back because you don't never break my money, bro. It's okay. And she talk a lot a lot a lot of she make me crazy and I push and I say, "I don't touch your money. I don't touch cash. You can check my bank." And she say, "No, maybe when I go New York, maybe you charge and cash and your money and your um car and you count, >> right?" >> I say, "No, why you say that?" So, she made me crazy and I see and and I push her. Um, how many times did you did you push her then during all [music] this? >> I don't know. I touched the head and I put and she said and sit down and then she say, "Why you fight me?" And I say, "Because you talk, I take the money. I don't touch nothing because we need pay. Why you talking mucho?" >> She never touch me. She never >> things just kind of hit a boiling [music] boiling point and kind of spilled over. >> Yeah. She I never fight with my daughter because she work only with me. I paid a lot of class for her because I wanted she save the money and the life and my other daughter too. >> But she took a lot of so I'm very stressed for the money. No, it's very slow. no people and she took me a lot of >> Okay. And it just just kind of snapped at that point, huh? >> All right. Um, what happened when she said she was calling the police? Did you try taking the phone? >> Huh? >> Did you try taking the phone from her when she said she was calling the police? >> Yeah. I say, "Okay, you can call the police." Okay, call the police. I know it's not good, but she talk and talk and talk and talk and I make me crazy. I think it's it's normal. I know I'm not supposed I don't know. >> Okay. >> All right. Uh probably if you stand up for or stand up for me. >> Stand up. >> Okay. All right. Hands behind your back. >> All right. You are under arrest at this point. Um, let's see. >> I see you've got your purse and your cell phone there. >> Come on. >> Your purse and your cell phone. Do you need anything else? >> My cell phone. >> Okay. >> Eventually, the woman was charged with domestic. Next up is the heartbreaking moment a mother received a police visit [music] as her Christmas gift on Christmas Day after a manipulative and belligerent daughter reported [music] her. This is the absolute last thing I needed right now. let go of me and I like push her off me and then when I push her she that's when she like puts me in a choke hold. >> Explain to her that she never once said thank you for Christmas gifts. Never once said thank you for staying up making all of her Christmas miss breakfast. >> I have protected that child for so long. >> On December the [music] 25th, 2024, yes on Christmas day, officers responded to a residence after reports came in [music] that a woman had strangled her daughter during an argument. turning what should have been a day of celebration into a scene of domestic violence. >> So, the only people around the house were me, my mom, and then my two little siblings who are six and three. >> Okay. So, we'll take once. >> We're not for them, but since they were there. >> Yeah. >> They're with now pick them up, >> but they were there when it occurred. >> All right. So, who is >> She doesn't want to press charges. She just wants the report made of Well, look, I'm sorry, >> but It's family violence at this point and we're going to take we're going to do it. >> And so we're going to put a warrant for arrest. So this stays between us. Do not go tell her. >> Do not Okay. That goes for all three of you. Okay? Y'all understand? We're going to take a warrant out for take three warrants out. Okay? It's going to be aggravated felony. Okay? Cuz strangulation is a part of a felony. Okay? So it's going to go down that way. Okay. >> So, we're going to get a statement from you too also. And you need to write down as it occurred or what occurred or how it occurred. >> And then you need to tell him exactly how it started, what happened, and then everything so he can put it in the report on. >> She does have a busted lip, too. >> I'm going to take pictures. >> How did this start? >> So, basically this morning, I went downstairs, opened my presents. Well, last night I went to the grocery store for her and she told me she wasn't making kiche. So, I was sad and I told her I was like, I literally almost started crying when you told me you weren't going to make a kiche cuz I love kiche on Christmas. Well, after I opened my presents, I went and got a piece of kiche and I ate it and I literally was like, "Oh, mom, this is good." But the crust and she was like, "You always have something to criticize about me. Just go upstairs to your room like I told you to 5 minutes ago." So, I just left it alone. I went upstairs. After about 20 minutes of just sitting in my room, I went downstairs to go get my vanity and my chair to put it together cuz I was bored. I come downstairs. My pile of stuff's gone. So I'm like, "Mama, where did all my presents go?" She said, "Oh, I threw them away." I was like, "Okay." So, I went back upstairs and I got ready and I came back downstairs. I was like, "Bye. I'm going to Dad's." And she was like, "Oh, no, you're not." So, I went and I grabbed my keys and I walk out the door. I go to walk out the door and she comes grab me and she grabs me and she's like, "Put your phone. Give me your phone." So, I throw it on the counter and then she grabs me. I missed that part. As I'm walking out the door, >> she grabbed your arm or was she grabbing my arm? >> She grabbed my both of my arms and I'm like, "Let go of me." And she's like, "No." I'm like, "Let go of me." And I like push her off me. And then when I push her, she that's when she like puts me in a choke hold. And I'm like, "Mama, get the f off me. Get the f off of me." And then she puts her hand over my mouth. And that's when my coffee went everywhere, all over the house. The cup busted my lip cuz it was a glass cup. And then >> so you was holding on to the cup. >> I was holding on to the cup the whole time. >> And then that's what caused >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> And I was like, "Mama, get off of me even with her hand on my mouth." And then she was saying something, but I don't remember everything that she said. And so I scooted over to the bar stool and I sat down and that's when she let go of me. She got in my face and she was like, "You're so like everything you do, you always have something to criticize. You're so ungrateful." yada yada yada. You didn't even say thank you. And I was like, I didn't know I was supposed to say thank you because I didn't know if it was from you. They were like, "Thank you, mama. Thank you, mama." Cuz they were sitting on the couch watching all this happen. That's when she grabbed me again. When I was like, "Get off me." Like, "Let me go. Move out of my way." And she wouldn't get off me. So, I picked my foot up and I kicked her off of me. And then she came back and she was like, "You're not going anywhere unless you ask for permission." So, I push her hand off of my male who I'm like, "Well, can I go to dad's?" And she says, "Yes." And then she goes and sits back on the couch and you're like, "You're cleaning all this mess up before you leave." And I'm like, "No, you're the one that caused it. You're going to clean it up." And she's like, "La, I'm not arguing with you." And so she went and got the mop and threw it at me and was like, "Here, clean it up." So I mopped the whole house and then I just left. >> All right. You going to stay at dad's for a while right now, right? >> Yes. >> Don't go. Don't go back home now. >> Okay. >> Like I said, we going we're going to find out her schedule and then we're probably going to pick her up tomorrow. >> Okay. The officers eventually focused on the mother who had remained silent all along. Not out of emptiness, but because it was hard to fathom how someone could harm the very little one that she had spent her life protecting. >> Is this the first time it's happened? >> No. >> How many times do you think it has happened? >> This is the second like physical >> big one. Okay. >> But it's been verbal her whole life. >> Okay. >> She's also been a couple times where kicked her out of the house. >> So, it's just elevating. >> Yeah. Can she go get her stuff from that house or >> I need school clothes. It's necessities. >> You said she Do you have a house key? >> I do. >> And she's at work right now? >> Yes, sir. >> Gets off at 7:00. >> I don't know what time she gets off today, but I'm assuming it's 7:00 or later if it's 3:00 to 3. >> So, what we probably can do, I'll ask her to make sure. I'm still kind of new. I I used to work border patrol, so I'm like, when you work the feds, you do what you want. >> Yeah. >> When you work here, it's a whole different ball game. Yeah. >> Um, but I'll ask either she going to have to wait or we can have to escort over there. Yeah, >> we going to have to escort. >> The mother, who was later identified as Stephanie Shepherd, was taken back to the [music] police station. Unusual place for any innocent woman to spend Christmas Day. But Stephanie told her story calmly [music] with a tone of someone who had simply reached her breaking point. >> You don't have to talk. You can just write a statement on paper of your side of the story. >> I think I need an attorney for whatever this is. I don't know what this is. I don't know what's being accused of what I've done. So, basically, we would like your side of the story so we can know what you know what both sides of the story are so we know what actually happened if they both leaked to the same thing. That's all we need. >> All I can say is >> so that way you're not charged with the wrong thing. All I can say is that my daughter at Christmas time, she got her Christmas presents and just threw them ac kind of just tossed them like they were nothing and never once said thank you or anything like that. My younger children open their presents, did something to annoy her and she started yelling at them and then um she finally and I told her to stop yelling at them. She got up, went to eat the breakfast that she wanted and asked me to make her. She immediately complained about um that the crust was burnt or that the crust was overcooked and wasn't perfect for her. Um and at that point, I told her just to go to her room. She went to her room. Later on, she came down. She made another comment or she came down asking where her presents were and I told her I just put them up. and she didn't seem like she wanted them. Um, she went strolling back upstairs, came back downstairs, told me that she was going to her dad's house where they want her and actually want her to be around her. That's when I explained to her that she never once said thank you for Christmas gifts. Never once said thank you for staying up making all of her Christmas miss breakfast, all that stuff. At that point, she said she was leaving. She went towards the door. uh grabbed her arm, told her, "You're not going anywhere. You're not leaving." And at that point, she raised her fist up to try to hit me. And then that was when she turned around and I put her down in a chair. I did put my arm around her to put her down in a chair. And at that point, she's still screaming, yelling at me. I am trying to calm her down, explain to her why I was upset with her and wanted her to just go upstairs, just remove herself because she was not grateful for anything that was done for her. And I told her, "Fine, you can go to your dad's. I expect you back here at 5:00." And she never returned. >> So, how did she get the busted lip? >> That was probably from her coffee cup that she slung all over the house. >> Okay. So, how did her coffee cup end up busting her lip? What occurred for that to happen? I'm not sure if when I went around to grab her if her coffee cup slung up into her face. >> Okay. >> But cuz it was a like a glass pipe cup because she continued to have that cup in her hand the whole time. But at no point I have never hit a child. >> Never have I spanked my children. Never have I hit my children. They always go to timeout. >> So when you said you put your hand around her, how did you do that? I did put at that point when her I put her my arm under her armpit and across her chest. >> Across her chest. Okay. >> Like up towards this way, >> her neck area. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, what you're saying is you didn't intentionally try to choke her out? >> No, absolutely not. >> Okay. >> At any [clears throat] point, did you put your hand over her mouth or anything like that? >> I did put my hand over her mouth when she was screaming and spitting in my face. >> Okay. But she also I mean you can see the bruise on my thumb from her and her trying to pull on my arm with her. >> Do you have any marks on you? >> Other than the blue bruise there she was trying to >> Is that just a vein right there? I bruising. >> It's probably just a vein. I don't think I have any bruising or anything. >> Okay. Just right there on your right arm. >> I know she's getting her fingernails into this right arm. I've never laid a hand on any of my children. >> So, at one point, how did you get your bruise on your hand? >> I have no idea. >> You don't know? Just sometime. >> Cuz I'm left-handed, so I have no idea. Okay. >> As the interview went on, the pressure only made her pain worse. Not guilt, but the silent realization that the little one that she had dedicated [music] her life to nurture was the reason that she was in an interrogation room on a Christmas afternoon. >> Are you okay with random >> like explaining everything that you just explained? I just need it on paper with a signature. >> Can I go to work and do it? I'm the only nurse in the ER. >> Look at me. >> We need this statement. Okay. It's going to help you determine what's going to happen next. Okay. It's it's just do this for us. I understand work. I really do. But it's it's totally up to what you want to do, but it's this is going to take a little bit. Okay. >> I mean, I didn't because y'all didn't explain while I was coming. So, I didn't tell my boss how long I'd be gone. Well, the fact is is we didn't want to explain that because we've had we didn't know the whole story. So, we had incidents where we told people and they don't come and we have to go after them >> and we [music] didn't work on >> but we didn't want to do this at your job. >> I Yeah. I don't want to come to your job. That's the respect I got for you and everybody else at the department. We don't want to go to your job and do that in front of everybody. We want to come here and talk with you by yourself. Okay. I just am I cannot >> We can leave the room and give you a minute for yourself if that's what you need. >> What? What do you mean? >> I have protected that child for so long. I protect her from being by her dad. I protected her. I'll write the statement. Can I go after I write this statement? >> Yes. We'll see. Write your statement. Okay. Take your time. Breathe. >> I understand. Breathe. I do want to say that your daughter did not want to press any charges, but because it's family violence, >> then why did she come? >> I I want to say maybe it could have been the dad like she told the dad. >> I'm sure it's him. >> So, I don't want you to blame her completely. >> I mean, the stuff I have let him get away with, >> but for this to be in your favor as well, we do need you to write a statement. >> So, I don't know where to begin. I don't know. explain to us >> exactly how you told us. >> Yeah. >> Now just put it on the paper like start out the morning of when it started everything started occurring. Y'all started getting into the argument since we talked with you everything kind of changed because we got your side of it now. Okay. So what she was saying was a little bit different. Okay. So, in this sign right here that you that just your statement in this right here. All right. This is what I need for you to do. Mhm. >> Okay. I'm I'm just going to tell you all your your charges. Okay. You're going to be charged with civil family violence and cruelty children with both children being there. Your daughters, you going to get the same thing. Okay? Listen. Look at me. I know it. But listen to me. Listen to me. Listen >> what? >> Listen to me. and let you go back to work today because you're the only one there. Okay? Nobody's going to know about this. It's your job. Okay? So, what I need for you to do tomorrow morning, come turn yourself in. We're going to get you down to the county and you'll be able to bond out tomorrow. Okay? Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me. I know it's a lot to take in. I know that. >> Oh my god. I would have just I would have just pressed charges on him 17 years ago. But no, but no. That's y'all need to It was looking worse beforehand, but it's okay. Listen, listen to me. >> No, I can't. >> Okay, listen to them. So, this is just where the charges are. Okay. All right. So when you go when this goes to a prosecutor, they may they may do something totally different and then go less. Okay. So this is just one little step. [music] Okay. >> I'm supposed to pick up my kids. >> Understand? >> Oh my god. Okay. Where am I supposed to go? >> You'll come here tomorrow morning. >> So I come in at 7:30. I go >> You'll come here. >> Y'all will take me there? >> Yeah, we'll take you there. Well, it'll be another day show, but you'll go to the jail. You'll get >> like I have to go by a police car. >> Mhm. >> Or you can go, listen to me, or you can go straight to the jail, and you can do it there, and somebody will meet you there. >> The tears didn't signal [music] weakness. They reflected the cost of raising a manipulative and conniving child. But the law viewed the situation through a very different lens. And that disconnect was about to make an already painful scenario even more complicated. I know the absolute last thing I needed right now. >> I know you I know I know I know >> what what did he do? Call my soon to be ex-husband to arrange it. So I >> I don't know what happened. Let her come up here with that. Don't know what happened, but like I said, didn't want to happen, but since it was family violence, we had to do something. >> Then why would she even come up here with this crap if she didn't want this to happen? >> I really don't know. I don't know. I can't give you that answer. Okay. I don't know. Daughter's going to Okay. For the same child. When we were looking at what daughter was saying, it would have been a whole different story. But that's why we brought you in here. We wanted to find out what mother's side was because the way she was saying was it was it was one-sided. And we don't we don't want to work on one side of stuff. We never do that. So, we got your side in since there's you know both both have injuries. So [music] at that point where >> I don't want to charge my daughter, >> okay? But listen to me. It's really not like I told daughter, it's not up to y'all at this point. It's up to the state. So listen to me. So once it gets past this point where the charges are filed now, when you get what I would do is get a lawyer and try to talk with prosecutors and all that. Y'all may be able to work something out. I don't know. I've seen it. I've seen it in the past where things kind of work their stuff out, but at this point, you know, it's where we have to make something. Okay, it's a lot to take in. I [music] know I I've sat on that side of the table one time, too. >> Like, is this is this my punishment for protecting her one other time? Like, why? >> We'll never know that question or that. We'll never know why. >> Like this isn't >> Let me ask you a question. At any point yesterday, was you drinking alcohol? When did that come? >> Absolutely not. >> Okay, cool. >> That's fine. That's fine. It's not as bad as what it would look at at first. Okay. >> Am I going to be in the newspaper for this? Like, if not, [laughter] I seem to be citizens. Okay. I just got to call my dad. >> Take a deep breath. pick one thing out and start with it first and figure out to go from there. When you talk to your dad, he may be able to help you figure out which direction to go. Okay? I'm going let you get back to work and we're >> I probably will just find some relief. I got to go talk to my dad. >> I understand. But we're going to let you >> I just don't want you to think if you don't see me at work. >> Okay. Okay. You're going back to work. However you leave here, that's fine. But [music] if you leave here and don't go back to work, just don't go anywhere near a dollar. Okay? >> Okay? It it would get really bad if you did. Okay? It would look bad. Let's just put it that way. [music] Okay? State says we have to make charges. I want you to feel it. So, I'm going get daughter to do the same thing if she really wants to. Okay? >> So, this is just saying you're declining to prosecute. Okay? So, we're going to turn this into the case file. [music] Okay. >> Yes, ma'am. The woman was charged with cruelty, battery, and additional counts of thirdderee cruelty, sealing the case with [music] charges that only deepened an already complicated situation.
