didn't think it looked weird or you didn't think that you were doing anything wrong. Why didn't you just go ahead and catch them in the same location? >> Where did $4,800 come? But he's holding it more money to hold the space so nobody else gets >> I can put an extra set. You have more space between your arms. >> On August the 17th, 2023, the employees at a bank notified law enforcement about a woman attempting to cash a fraudulent check at the branch. Upon reaching the location, officers quickly swung into action after being directed towards the woman who had been detained at the bank pending their arrival. Just a concession if it changes. >> Somebody waiting for you outside. We have either one of these. My name >> ID pocket or >> in my breast. >> Okay. I have a glove on >> you cover it. I'm >> uncover what >> you said you want to uncover while we're investig Okay. >> Probably a few minutes ago. Earlier today, um the the um owner of the account asked me to press have her call the cops and have her arrest. >> So, this is a real company. >> This is a real company, >> but they say that this is not their check. >> Correct. >> Okay. >> All right. Um we'll probably need to get some contact information. >> I gave it to the um >> the dispatch. We may or may not get it back from you as well. >> Absolutely. >> Thank you so much. >> Do you want to keep that? >> Oh, just for now. >> No problem. >> Police officers realized they were dealing with a potential organized fraud scheme after a bank official informed them that a fraudulent attempt of the same nature was reported the same day by a separate bank. >> It was mounted because of the the marketplace. So with me not putting my business actually out there, I don't use anything when it's coming my property or what I'm doing with my food or how I choose to help people, you know, but marketplace. He signed me a check and all of a sudden I'm getting this. I live over here in Orlando. my ID. So, >> so this is this is really something cuz I don't even have a record. >> This is crazy. >> Facebook. >> Yes. >> Okay. Why is he sending? >> Well, because of the deposit that he was putting down for the renting up the space that he wanted. >> So, you're a landlord. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. you know, trying to get some extra money and trying to get an RV, trying to get out of here. And the best way to do it if I can rent out property, if I can sell off place, or if I could just help anyone, any anything. >> Okay. So, they were saying that at the Dr. Phillips location of regions, you also cashed different. >> Well, it's from the same person. It's it's it's literally a big check. So cashing a big check in one lot. I don't have an account, which is pretty difficult to do anyways when you trying to cash something so large. >> I'm trying to get something now so I can do this now because has to be on their file for now to get the RV. So I'm trying to do everything before as as fast as possible. >> Okay. So check all the way from Dr. >> Well, I do it anyways because it's it's not showing that you're trying to overdo it, overbear with the taking the advantage of cashing so many checks cuz so many people go in cash so many checks and do so many things and things turn out wrong. So, I didn't want any mishaps or anything happen, but I didn't never think that this would come that I get a a final check and it's this. >> So, if you didn't think it looked weird or you didn't think that you were doing anything wrong, why didn't you just go ahead and catch them in the same location and not really worry about that? If you're not doing anything wrong, it should be an issue. >> Well, it looks it looks wrong now. You're going to different location. Well, now, yeah, I see. But I've been doing this for years. So, I'm like I go to three to however many I have to depending on the size of the check. So, you know, it's like sometimes I get more >> some No, I'm actually the person that does the lending for the homes, the food and stuff. I you know that. So, >> where's Willington, Florida? >> Willington, Florida? >> Wellington, Florida. Yeah, that's miles out. >> And so you so you do the books for aircraft demolition. >> Say it was for off of Facebook. Say [music] the marketplace. >> I was advertised in space. >> He needed area. >> I had the area. >> So when [music] it was denied, this is what came back. So I'm What's the the name of the person that you were? >> Say it's Rudolph. >> I'm sorry. >> Rudolph. >> Rudolph. Is that last name? First name? >> No, that's his first name. >> What's his [music] last name? >> See, I didn't remember. >> First name. >> For someone being accused of over $20,000 in fraud, the woman appeared very calm and collected. To exonerate [clears throat] herself from the accusations being levied against her, she presented officers with a somewhat heartbake story about how she ended up being accused of fraud. So when I call up aircraft demolition corporate, they're going to have any Rudolph that works there. He's going to know all about you. >> Okay. Where do you stay at? right here. >> Do you currently work anywhere else other than >> I work five guys? Five guys not have any hours. I go to u the ch the [music] staffing at um simon offered at national. >> Can I ask you just a straight up honest question? I mean it's up and again you're under Miranda and all that but did did somebody borrow you or or rent or your like your ID your social security card any of your information or anything? Did they meet you like at the staffing center and say hey I'll give you money for for this that or whatever to use your social security card or the driver private license? >> No, but my have been hacked six times. So a lot of my info has gotten out and been tampered with. So I still trying to get that straighten out right now. Like, how did you get here? >> I thought it looked. Okay. All right. >> Where did $4,800 come? But >> he's holding it more money to hold the space so nobody else gets it. >> It's a bigger It's a bigger area. Look, we haven't even gotten it until he just heard it and sent that and it's like, okay, we can do everything else afterwards, you know, because of he was going to come see it besides looking at it on photo or just live. >> So, I haven't seen it. But I'm going to give you six times what you're asking for it. >> So see it on just camera view live >> versus seeing live which are highs, >> right? >> That's something totally different. So you want >> but when you're rent 750 I mean you charge first and deposit. That's only like $2,300. So it's just giving you an extra 25 for >> space like that. Norally an extra $2500. place. >> Yeah, cuz you know you can find a lot of stuff on Facebook. >> You have >> say it's like one of those u faces, but they'll talk to you through it. Like I have I have one from uh for the R&B that I was supposed to be getting out there and nobody gets to see that person face, but you can actually just talk to a person talking to somebody. >> Yeah. So it's it's somebody talking. Yeah. That and now this and I'm like why >> can you show us that the conversation? >> Well I don't know if it's still there but >> it shouldn't go away. >> Well depend on what they do. You know >> so you have it listed now on our street in Orlando for rent. Yeah, I'm not finding nothing in Orlando. >> No, just there. >> Yes. >> What's the address on Arch Street? >> Street Ferguson. >> 8246 Arch Street. Well, I hate to be a pain in your butt, but that's not accurate because off Ferguson is a 4,000 block west cool drive. So, if it's a street that runs east and west, it' be 4,000. State Road 50, if you're talking like 50 in Ferguson is about the 1,00 block north. So, it'd be 7 miles north, which put you in a pocket if it's 8,000 address. Or if it's 8,000 to the west, you would be out here at a >> that's the address that's on the building. >> I've lived here for 30 years. I know how the number system works. >> The woman knew that she was done for when the officers began to poke into the gaping holes in her clearly fabricated story. The lies were not getting exposed, but she was a scam artist after all. All she needed to do was come up with something to somehow sway the officers. Anything at all. >> The person that I'm even renting from is is not even a >> So now you're renting from somebody else because you just told me you were renting this house. >> Look, I'm saying to your parent, >> but I'm talking about what I'm renting now is >> I asked you about the one on Ark Street. >> You said you were renting it for $750. My dad's name Maybe is it arch a rer? You need more space between your shoulders. >> I can put an extra set. You have more space. Okay, fair enough. >> Yeah, just type. >> And what was your father's name? You said Michael O. between your wrist. >> So, how many properties? >> What's your mom's name? >> Virtue. Oh, >> I'm sorry. >> Virtue. Bergie V R >> that I can probably spell ver >> same last name. >> No. [sighs] >> So how does that work with your other five you guys are all kind of sharing? Do you all rent out the houses together? How does it work? >> Yeah. So we have separate things that we don't add on. >> What do you mean separate things? >> Like you have separate portions of the house. So like depends, right? >> However, whoever comes first, but whoever needs it at the most goes that way. We don't look at it as if it's my that's whatever it even really like I said enough clothes. Everything became a done deal once the woman came clean to the cops and revealed her part of the crime. At this point, her fraudulent scheme had been exposed. There was no way out of this mess that she had created. >> Well, what's going on? Cuz you got a lot of stuff. It doesn't make any sense. >> A lot of this stuff is years and years. >> That's your stuff is not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about addresses that don't exist and all that stuff. Wow. >> She says it's it looks like like his signature, but she he actually positively did not write the signature. So we, you know, we've definitely got that. Um, yeah. So anyway, so we got that verified on that one. Ma'am, if I can ask you a question. Um, it purely up to you whether or not you want to tell me or not. [music] Is, um, we we know that there's this is already being done. It's already been done this morning. It's being done currently. There's somebody that's in another location. It's being arrested as we speak by another agency. Um, if you can if you want to tell me, is this something like this where somebody contacted you and said, "Hey, this is what we'd like you to do." and you're kind of like the lower part of it, you know? Is that is that what happened? Kind of like what I said before or is it something different? >> Facebook. >> No, no, no, no. Not the not this aircraft company. I'm talking about this what what we've got going on here. The fact that this is >> Yeah. The people that's how because of like I said, I just Okay. My phone >> has been off. >> I got someone that actually turned my phone on so I can have actual >> I can use my phone. [snorts] Now, were they waiting for you to see if we showed up and then they leave without you? >> No. >> They kind of dropped you off then. >> Uber. >> Oh, so you really did use an Uber? Okay. All right. Okay. So, you really don't have any idea who the person that gave you the check was the blank check, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, here I am. >> Yep. And this is how this works. I mean, that's what I was saying before this. This is how this work. And it's pretty pretty ingenious on their part, you know, um because that way you're the one holding the bag like this and they're the ones that, you know, you took the risk of this and that. >> Okay. woman was charged with fraud, forgery, and [music] lassening. >> Similar to this woman's operations, this dubious man was called unaware by police officers after [music] the bank reported him for attempted fraud. >> Well, we got a call from the Chase Bank about you in there trying to withdraw money from an account that is not yours. >> And I did not withdraw cuz that's what he asked me at first. I said I did not withdraw any money. >> We have two people that positively identified you. Okay. On January the 17th, 2023, the staff at Chase Bank alerted police officers about a possible scam involving a man who posed as one of the bank's customers. Upon receiving this report, officers who were in the area quickly located the suspect's vehicle [music] and intercepted him. >> How's it going by me? I didn't know you were pulling me over. >> No, we trying to talk to you. So, how's it going? >> Good. What's called? Well, we got a call from the Chase Bank about you in there trying to withdraw money from an account that is not yours. >> No, I was with my friend that was in the parking lot as well that they tried to withdraw money, but I was with them. >> So, where's your friend now? >> Uh, in the parking lot of Chase trying to get money. I guess they were trying to take money out. >> Hey, let's get another unit to the Chase bank supposedly that somebody is still there. >> And this one saying that that's his friend. >> It wasn't me. According to this guy, he's going to be a red Honda involved. That was second party driving out of there. >> All right. >> Um I know him from full sale. I went to full sale with him and I hadn't seen him in a while. He wanted to buy a PlayStation that um PlayStation 5 that um I was selling because I have two of them. Got >> I was waiting and waiting. I said I wanted to do it at a public place and I was at the public place. Um at the public place um he was waiting too long and then I pulled out and left. >> Okay. >> Well, we'll get this straightened out. All right. It's fine. Why not tell? >> Can you roll this window down too? >> All the way so I can see inside. >> Why do you want to see inside my vehicle? I'm not doing anything. >> I want to be able to see your hands. I'll be busy. >> My hands are right here. >> No, I'm not playing games to you. He's he's stopped here being nice to me and you're telling me he was telling me there something about taking money out of a chase. I'm like I didn't take any money. I got my chase right here. >> That's fine. But for our safety purposes, I need the window to come down cuz your window tent is too dark. >> My hands are right here. And the windows aren't too dark. They're illegal. Give me my hands off. >> All right. Just relax. >> Thank you. >> You'll be all right. >> Pulling you open. Scared the hell out of me. I don't get pulled over. >> I've never been arrested. I don't do anything. That's why when I see cops behind me, I'm like, "What the hell?" While a man denied attempting to withdraw money, the staff at the bank had something contradictory to say about it. >> Description on the guy. >> Um, we don't have access to the video. >> He's 5'7. He's thin build. >> He's like around his height. >> Yeah, my height. Um, and it's probably early 40s. >> Early 40s. >> Like orange type tan, you know, like spray tan. >> Spray tan. Blue. Red shirt. Floral in pattern. >> Yeah, it was a f Okay. It was floral. He's saying floral. >> Yes. Uh, he's got a Jeep. Americ >> who was in a red Honda. Was there another person in a red Honda? >> I think that's a bogus story. He said >> try to get us somebody else. >> Um, he's wearing a black hoodie and he has khaki pants. Uh, catchy pants and black. >> But I did go in the bank, too. I was wrong. >> Long jeans that are like washed. They're not dark. They're lighter color. >> Okay. >> They look like white. >> Maybe not clean number. >> You want to go take a look at this guy and tell me if it's him or not. All right. Jump in the car. >> All right. I'll take care of it. >> 631. No. 639. Just signal 14. He's probably telling a lie about it. >> As in there is no other person. >> That's 104. 10. >> Yeah. I think you just said that. Just try to get out of it. >> Yep. All right. you complete a statement for you guys have access to your video. >> No, we don't. >> Okay. >> You know, one manager requested or something like that. >> Have to request you. >> We will complete a statement real quick, sir. >> Statement for sure. >> 636. I'm in route with one manager for show. >> Yeah. Sorry. >> So, people in the bank could verify that you were there with somebody else. my receipt. So, the one guy I was talking to about my I was talking to him about my account with my Chase um Southwest card and then um Jeffrey was talking to another guy and then he went to the drive-thru. Then when I came outside um I said, "What's going on? What's taking so long?" Um and then he was in the car still. I pulled out and he was still there. So, I assume he was still there dealing with the hiding out. Last I saw him, he was in the car outside cuz he was going to go to the drive-thru. Once the description provided by staff matched the suspect's physique, it became clear that the man [music] had been lying to the officers and tried to cover up his involvement in the crime. >> He said that he needed a checking or like a check made out for $5,000. Gave me the temporary ID and kind of right away. >> You give me a second and make a phone call. All right. >> So, I I just want to clear something up. I'm wasn't asking you to roll the window down to be mean or to be rude. For our safety purposes, [music] it is so dark. I literally cannot see through it unless I'm looking over. That's why I wanted you to roll it down. I wasn't trying to be a douche. >> So, I don't I So, here here's the thing. I don't want to have to sit forward this far just to be able to see on the car. Be a black Toyota. versus a GW negative injury just hurt in the parking lot. >> Hey, Antonio, can you just do me a favor? I'm just just going to ask you to step out of the car real quick. >> Just said to me, don't talk to the police. That's on you. >> That's okay. We'll take a look at it. >> Sure. >> Step out of the vehicle, >> huh? Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then uh just that way. Yep. That is >> That's a positive ID. All right, you're good to go. Have a seat back in the car. >> Hold on. Hold on. Because before you get in the car, let me take a picture of you, sir. >> I'm wondering now what the hell that text me from. >> And uh once you get in the car, >> Yeah. >> I'll put my hands right out there cuz he keeps when you went away, he was like trying to tell me to like walk because I'm like, I'll put my hands right out the door. >> Just let me see the text he sent you if you don't mind. I'm not even going to write back to >> texting other people. >> Yeah, texting my mom. She said, "What are you doing?" >> Let me go back to my text. So, you want to see the text from security? This is the text that I got after I said, "What's going on?" Uh, somebody else texted me. Um, if you talk to the I know what that polo, but I know what that means. It's on you. So, I'm not sure what that meant. So, can you can you clear that so I can see who was a sender? >> This is the text that I got from him right now. What's this number >> right there? >> It's just about all I can remember. >> Um, I don't know. I don't know if this is sufficient. Sorry. Thank you. >> Oh, you can see back. >> I can write him back and be like, can I say should I not do that? >> No, don't do it. >> Now it's weird. >> We'll kill him. Yeah, he didn't sign that. Leave that in there for Kyle. >> Sorry. >> Oh, look. See, look. And stay out of my And stay out of my This is Brian. And stay out of my business if you know what's best, bro. >> So, obviously, he's hiding something. >> Yeah. >> Why don't you guys call him? >> Um, I don't know what they've done so far. They've been doing other things while we've been over here talking. >> I was going to say that. And that just came in just now. 48. That's just now. And stay out of my business if you know. Hey, German. He just texted him again. >> He said, "Stay out of my business if you know what's best, bro." >> Look, right when I'm right when I'm on the phone with somebody else, look. And stay out of my business if you know what's best, bro. And I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. What business? Stay out my business if you know what's best, bro. So, I'm like, that's obviously shady. >> See, the problem I'm having with that number is I I do a cross reference and it's coming to a medical facility. medical facility. >> Yeah. >> How the hell is he texting me from it? >> Well, these officers will be with you this. >> No problem. No problem. >> Medical facility. >> How? >> As officers interrogated the man about the events involving the strange individual he's claimed to have met up with at the bank. They began to uncover some inconsistencies in his story. >> Sir, you do me first. Step out of the vehicle. All right. >> All right. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Say that. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> All right. Anything you say can and will be used against you. >> While you're doing this, >> you can turn it off. I'm not going to look at it. >> Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> You have the right to talk to a lawyer before and during questioning. Do you understand? >> If you can afford a lawyer and want one, one will be provided. Speaking of my race, am I am I getting arrested or something? >> He's going to have to ask you questions. >> Oh, I was like, sir, >> but he has to advise you legal rights. >> Me for now. Okay. >> If you >> I've never had this happen. That's why I'm asking. I've never been in trouble with the police in my whole life. That's why I'm an [ __ ] >> If you cannot afford a lawyer and want one one will be provided for you before questioning without charge. Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> Has anyone threatened you or promised you anything to get you to talk to me? >> No. >> Okay. >> Tech said not to talk to you, but then Walmart is talking to me. >> Okay. So, I'm going to be the main officer on this call. Yes, sir. >> So, can you just tell me what happened today? >> Just from the beginning. >> Yeah. >> Um from the beginning, um I went to Fullale um for 2 years. I knew some I have a PlayStation 5 that I was going to sell. Um had a couple of them that have already sold before since they've released. Um so, I I posted in the forums on the um uh alumni forums uh Reddit thread um about having a place I was going to sell. So, um >> um Jeffrey said that he wanted to buy one. He messaged me. At first, I didn't know what it was. Um, and then I said, "Oh, I know who this is." Um, because, um, I've known him before, like four or five years ago when I went to school. In passing, I knew who he was. So, I said I wanted to meet him at the bank. Um, I at first I said I was going to meet him at Bank of America. Um, but then he said to meet him over here at this bank cuz he had to get money out. I got here first and then um, he got there. He went in, I went in. I was talking to one um, teller at the window about my account um, my Southwest Airlines Chase rewards card that I have. And then the other window he was dealing with him. He got out of the bank and then he went through the drive-thru as I stood inside. He was taking forever and stuff. I came out of the bank and I said to him, "What's going on?" Cuz he pulled back around. I said, "What's taking so long? What are you doing?" He goes, "Oh, never mind. Never mind. Um, never mind about the deal. Never mind about the deal." I'm like, "But what's going on? Why would you say that when you have me drove drive all the way here?" He goes, "Never mind. Never mind." Okay. I pull out um to the right over here this way. He was still there at the bank um in the car. Um, and then as I'm pulling out this way at the lights make a right on this street. Um, the officer, I think it was this officer, had the lights on and pulled me over and was asking me um, what had gone on. Did I try did I try taking money out of the bank and I said no. >> You said okay. You say you were doing business at the bank. >> Um, I did not take any money out of the bank and I did not try to I was about my Chase rewards card. I think I have it or you have Do you still have it? I have it. But I was speaking about my Chase account. Um, my Southwest Airlines rewards card. Never asked to take money out or nothing. But I was there with him. And then at first it wasn't suspicious to me. That guy's always suspicious. But now what's suspicious about it is as I was talking to the officer, I'm getting the text messages in saying, "Oh, if you talk to the police, that's on you." Um, talk to the police that's on you. Um, and I forget what else. Um, it's in the phone now. If you talk to the police, it's on you. And all this dumb stuff when it's like I told him, if you have so talk to the police, if you're being honest, why can't you talk to the police? So that part >> at any point today, did you fill out a check withdrawal? A check with >> a check for withdrawing of money. >> No, I did not any check withdrawals. I had my card though there. I had my card there and I wait a check withdraw. No, no, but I did my um I was dealing with my Chase um Southwest Airlines card, but I did not do it. >> You didn't fill out any paperwork or say? >> I think I did sign for my check um for not a check, but for my Chase rewards um to get my loyalty um reward balance. I think I did sign something to get my balance, but not a check. Not nothing for a check. I signed >> nothing to withdraw any money. >> No, absolutely. not signing a physical check, but to withdraw money from an account. >> Withdraw money. I did not withdraw any money from my account. No, I did not. I think the only thing I signed was my um was my Chase rewards um to check your loyalty balance. When you're a Southwest member, you can do that. But I did not withdraw cuz that's what he asked me at first. I said I did not withdraw any money. >> Just when he thought they had succeeded in fooling the officers into buying his lies, he realized that he had been the fool all along. >> What ID did you use today to present to the bank? >> I didn't I didn't have an ID. Wait, did I have my Oh, wait. >> Um, I don't think I did my ID, sir. I slid my um I slid my rewards card. I didn't have I didn't have no ID. I just have Chris ID, but I don't even think I showed him my ID. I just had my rewards. Um, I wrote it. >> You had my I showed him though. I did show the officer my my chase. >> You can keep your hands out of your pocket for now. Okay. >> But all I did was slide it on the thing and then um that was it. But I did not withdraw any money or anything like that. No, I did not. I [music] was actually hoping that he would so that I could sell the PlayStation and he was following me in my house, but it just got weird um to me when I was um talking to him. He goes through the drive-thru after after he's inside and then I come out and he goes, "Well, never mind. Never mind." So, I'm like, "I don't understand." But then now it all makes sense. >> All right, sir. So, so we spoke to a different branch manager today. Okay. >> Sure. >> In Orlando. >> Sure. >> They described you. They didn't describe your friend. They described you same way they described you right now. They said person with a with a with a tan come over here and the the flower shirt. >> So why would anybody but it's not I did not go to any I went to this bank. Wait, did I go to any other bank? No, I didn't go to I went to another bank today. I think this morning, but I didn't go to this I didn't go to this bank. >> I'm not saying I'm not saying this bank. >> Oh, >> you went to you went to another bank in Orlando. >> I withdraw money. I have money in my pocket. I did withdraw money today. Um I did withdraw money today from my bank of um this morning. I did withdraw money this morning cuz I have cash on me. But um no, I did not um go to any I did not go to this bank ever before. Just now with him and that's it. And I did not withdraw any money from this bank whatsoever or even try to. >> Okay. >> Um I did go in Orlando near my house though to a bank um this morning. I did. >> Yes. By myself. Not with anybody. By myself. >> All right, sir. So at this time we're we're going to place you under arrest. You understand? >> For what though? >> Okay. We have enough uh enough evidence right now to place you under arrest. >> But I didn't do anything officer >> for attempting to take money right now. Okay. >> I really didn't. Officer, you guys are supposed to be the ones that if you don't do anything wrong and you tell the truth, I've never been in trouble in my life. And I didn't take any money anywhere. >> They described you to a tea. >> And that's just money out of an account. >> So did the other bank location. >> Money out of an account. >> Oh, you attempted to. Okay. So, do me a favor. Just put your hands behind your back. Turn around. >> Turn my car off. >> Oh, we'll do we'll take care of that. Just turn around. Put your hand behind your back. >> Getting arrested. >> Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. I'm not asking you. Okay. >> Oh my god. Can you drop your fingers for me? >> Yeah. I don't understand why I'm getting arrested for something I didn't even do. >> Can I call my spouse if I can get my vehicle and leave it so it's not towed? >> We could work on something like that. >> Yeah. >> The car is being parked right now. So, we'll >> Can I roll up my window and put my car off so nobody goes into my car? I don't want anybody see. >> I'm going to take care of that. Okay. >> Well, can I do it? >> No. >> No, you cannot do it. >> Well, can I watch you guys turn off my car? >> You can do that. >> You can watch right here. >> Thank you. It's a stick shift. So, I have to roll up the window right here and that thing has already been broken. Um, I don't understand, officer, why are you guys arresting me when I really didn't do anything? >> I really didn't. If you have if you guys can do more research or something, I swear to you, please do your research cuz I've never been [music] First time in my life I'm getting arrested and it's going to be something I didn't do. I swear to you, I didn't. I don't lie. >> Um, can you call my spouse, Brian? How do you unlock your phone? >> It's a passcode or phone. >> Well, what why do I want to unlock my phone now? Call it work, right? >> Someone out. >> Oh, yeah. Let me see. >> And make sure we do a pat down. >> Do what? >> Do a pat down. >> You're not going to talk to him right now. >> I can't talk to him. >> No, you'll get a phone call later on. Right now, I mean, >> I do my phone then. >> We're just calling in regards to this. Okay. >> We're just calling in regards to your vehicle, right? We're trying to help you out. Okay. No, you guys are not. How rude is this? I'm going to call a lawyer then. >> I don't need you texting anyone. >> Well, because you guys are going through all the being rude to me. >> Do you know her phone number or who you want to come pick? >> Yes, my spouse. >> All right. What's the phone number? >> 727. >> One second. >> Cuz just then it looks like you want to text him again. >> Well, I was going to text him. Was I not supposed to? >> No, we're we're trying to call and get in here right now. >> Okay. Call, please. >> At this point, it was beginning to dawn on him that his theft scheme had been uncovered. There was no escaping the consequences now, but for a man who [music] was bold enough to scam a bank, he needed to come up with something. Perhaps a false anger to somehow maintain his illusory innocence. >> Can I ask why everybody's going through all my things in my car and all my wallet when >> your phone? We're trying to help you out right now with the vehicle. Okay. >> I'm not getting anybody permission to go to my vehicle without a search warrant, please. I don't want everybody going through my stuff >> right now. >> But I'm not doing anything. >> Do you want me to call her or not? >> Yeah, him. >> Yes. Okay. >> But can you ask him not to go through all my stuff, please? I don't want anybody going to all my things. This isn't right, you guys. >> One more time. 727. >> And why does he keep going in my vehicle, sir? And I don't want anybody going in my vehicle without a search warrant. I'm not doing anything. >> He was the officer that was being mean to me at first, but now you guys are being rude to me for no reason. Hopefully, you fix it. >> Can you ask him why he's going without a search warrant in my vehicle? >> Back out of the vehicle. >> And I would like him to be out of my vehicle. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. So he we're allowed to search the vehicle because you're being arrested and the vehicle is being towed. So we'd search the vehicle. >> It's not being towed. He's probably >> requesting for someone to get up. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> But it's being still being searched incident to arrest. >> I don't understand why when I talk to you guys and I'm saying that you tell the truth when somebody doesn't call. >> Want to leave a message? >> Brian, I'm with the police. Call me. >> All right. >> I'm going to put my vehicle. Come with me. I don't understand why I'm in the mailbox when I didn't do anything. Patience. >> So, here's another suspicious thing. That number he had he had you call called as Brian. >> That's a different number than he gave us for Brian earlier. >> And I didn't take anything from anyone. It's like if you're going to get in trouble first time in your life, you should at least get in trouble with something you do. And I didn't do nothing. >> Okay. >> Dr. Cool. >> I'm going to place you in my vehicle now. Okay. >> I want to step inside. Do you want seat belt on? No. >> What about my money? Do I put it in my pocket? >> I have your money right now. >> Thank you. >> And it's on video camera that I'm receiving it. Okay. >> I'm going to put it into a bag. >> I get a bag. We'll get this phone. >> We'll let you make another call when we get over there. Okay. Do you want to call anyone else? >> What do I I've never What do I do to get like with somebody me out? I I'm [music] going to be 40 40 years old. >> So, right now, right now, here, listen. We have uttered a false instrument. Okay. >> What does that mean? [music] >> That means you signed a deposit slip requesting for money. >> Yeah. Okay. >> But I really didn't sign. >> Okay. >> You guys have We do. And we have two people that positively identified you. Okay. >> Signing a deposit slip. >> That's what we have. Okay. >> You know, withdrawal slip >> with Yeah. I I'll clarify what it is. But [music] that's what we're working with right now. Okay. He >> was later charged with uttering a false instrument and criminal use of personal identification information. But this experience [music] failed to teach him a lesson as he was arrested just 8 months later for trying to fraudulently withdraw over $800,000 [music] and sentenced to 7 years in prison. While this man's intent to defraud was clear as day, this next case had officers wondering whether a teenager had the guts to pull a fraud scheme. >> What we're being told is is that they're um >> fraudulent. >> There are some funds that were placed into your account >> Mhm. that you have now come up here today to withdraw. >> Yeah, this is like my second time here. I'm only 18, so I don't really know how to do this for real. >> Do you got for what? For the um haircuts. >> Yeah, step out for me. >> On the 5th of February 2024, officers [music] were dispatched to a bank in regards to a fraud scheme involving a teenager. Her schemer nearly pulled through and the last thing she expected was to see the cops showing up. Upon arrival, officers met with the suspect before proceeding [music] to speak with the manager who briefed them about the situation at hand. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Do okay today? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, I'm also hearing y'all GPD. >> Mhm. >> Reason I'm here is cuz we get called about potentially you with [music] some doing some fraud joint charges or trying to withdraw fraudulent money from somebody's account. >> All right. >> Yeah. >> Why is that? I don't know, but we're here to investigate and everything like that. And so, >> okay, >> what happened? >> Okay. So, so what happened was for the the account that the funds that um was trying to get withdrawn out of they were fraudulently like someone hacked into their information and they were fraudulently transferred over to it. And then she was I guess I'm not sure if she was one or someone sent her here. She was here to withdraw the money from the account that were fraudulently uh frauded. The the members who we actually contacted and they said they didn't do this transfer at all. They're heading to the Stark branch now to to get their account straightened away because all like they moved money from the members online banking. I'm not sure exactly how it was. >> When did that occur? >> That happened today. >> Like how long before she came in? Any idea? >> Um it was like 40 minutes. >> Okay. So, and it looked like they transferred all the funds the member had from the credit card to the checking. All the money they had in their savings to the checking and then [music] transferred it to her account. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> How much was it? >> 2500 account holders information from Stark or whoever that customer is. >> If you get his 43 as well. Okay. How are you today? >> Good. >> So, I'm guessing you kind of heard a little bit of the conversation there as to why we're here. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Um, do you mind if I see your ID real quick? >> Good. >> Seems like you guys get hit all the time. >> Yeah. >> We do a pretty good job of catching it though. >> Okay, Justice. Here's the deal. Well, well, what the bank is what the bank is coming up with is there that they have some some concerns about some funds that you came in to withdraw today. Mhm. >> Okay. from your account. Correct. And what their what their fear is or what they're starting to figure out is is somehow or another those funds were transferred [music] from one bank member's account into your account. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Um I'm going to want to ask you some questions in regard to this. All right. But before I do that, I do have to advise you of your Miranda rights. Okay. Just letting you know that you are detained. You're not free to leave. Okay. Not under arrest, but you are detained while we conduct the investigation. Okay. >> Can we take it outside in the car? >> Like the police car? Mhm. >> Why is it you want to do that? >> I don't want to be in public. >> Huh? >> I don't want to be in public. >> You don't want to be in public? >> Yeah. This is a little embarrassing. >> What's that? [music] >> I said yes. This is a little embarrassing. >> Okay. All right. We'll wait till he >> like I don't know why it's still there. >> Okay. Can I just get some information from you first? Where are you currently living at? >> Um I'm homeless. >> You're homeless currently? How long have you been homeless? um since like December, 3 days after Christmas. >> So, the end of December. >> Yeah. >> Based on observations, the girl appeared to be an innocent teenager who was only caught up in this fraud and had no real knowledge of it. But despite suspecting that she might have been a victim, officers needed to ensure that this wasn't just an act to seem innocent. >> So, they did both of these transfers and then they transferred 1206 once it was in there into Justice's account. And then she was here within 30 minutes to withdraw the cash out. >> All right. How did you come here today? >> Um my god sister brought me. >> What's that? >> My friend brought me. >> Okay. They outside? >> Uh they should be at >> Okay. And who which friend is that? >> Her name is um Sharia. >> How do you spell that? >> S H A R I Y A H. I'm not >> What's her last name? >> Uh Reynolds. >> Reynolds. R E Y O N L N I like S. I want to see it. >> Okay. Probably spelled like >> Okay. Mine's Reynold as well. So, R E Y N O L Ds. How old is she? >> Come on, buddy. >> How old is she? >> Uh 18. >> Where does she live at? >> Tampa, Florida. >> She >> It's like a a outskirts town in Tampa, Florida. I'm not sure. Is she just in town for the day or >> She's in town for like 2 weeks. >> Okay. When did she get here? >> Um 2 days ago. >> Where's she staying while she's in town? >> In an Airbnb. >> And when we've seen all of their money gone and I look at the history and don't see them doing transfers or anything like that. >> Contact number. >> Yes. >> All right. Yeah, we can walk out to my car. Okay. When the officer comes back, let let him know they were out of my vehicle. >> I'm going to hold on your arm cuz you're not in the cuffs. Okay, thanks. >> So, it's just like we just call them. Hey, Mr. and Mrs. member, we see that right now at this point this time, we have a member here trying to do a large withdrawal or do a large transaction and we notice that you don't usually do transfers of this size. we just wanted to verify that this was you that did this transfer. And she said, [music] "No, she it sound like she just works." She's like, "No, I don't I I didn't do any or authorize any transfer into that account." >> All right. Have a seat for me. Okay. Like I said, I do I do need to ask you some questions. But before I ask you those questions, I [music] do have to advise you of your rights. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law. from the online banking on her account. >> Need to like step down through the car with her. >> Okay. >> And our fraud team is writing up a report right now to give you guys before you. >> Okay. Yeah. And we'll give you guys cash number and everything like that so you'll have it. >> So you understand these rights? >> Mhm. >> Having those rights in mind, are you willing to answer some questions for me? >> Okay. All right. So, like I said, what um what we're being told is is that they're um >> fraudulent. There are some funds that were placed into your account. >> Mhm. >> That you have now come up here today to withdraw. >> Yeah. >> Is that correct? >> Yes. >> Okay. And and where whose funds are those? >> My friend I'm homeless at the moment. So um I don't really have money for anything. And um the only person that send me money is my dad. And my friend had was like she could send me a little bit of money, which that was a little bit of money that um she could give me to be able to like get up on my feet a little bit. >> Which friend are you talking about? Shariah, >> the one from Tampa. >> How do you know her? >> I know her from like um I used to live in St. Petersburg and when I was a kid and we just used to play together as kids and we just friends on social media basically. >> As the names of two unidentified people continued to come up, it piqued the officer's interest. This prompted them to make attempts to track down the individuals, hoping to get some sort of clarity about who actually organized the fraud. >> You see her vehicle? Where where did she drop you off at? No, they were parked like um in Publix's parking lot. >> Why did they park all the way over there? >> She was parked I don't know. I mean Oh, they went inside of Publix, I think. >> Okay. How long ago was that? >> Um when I had got here, >> so about 30 minutes ago then? >> Yeah, I've been No, I >> have They tried to call you or anything since you like I left my phone inside of the car. That's what I've been saying the whole time. I thought it would take faster inside of there when I went to um went to the front thing. This is like my second time here. I'm only 18, so I don't really know how to do this for real. But when I went to the front um thing, I thought that it would be like faster there. Um but the lady at the front told me that I had to go there and I was going to go to get my phone, but then they said um to hold on a second. >> Okay. And when did she open her account? >> Um it is a newer account, but it's not like a a brand new account. Any anyone starting with like 57 is like a newer account. Her account open date was July 14th, 2021. >> It's been 6 7 months. >> Yes. >> What kind of car are they in? >> Uh yellow um I don't know what kind of car it is. I just know it's yellow. It's like a foreign car. >> Yellow like a yellow car. >> Mhm. >> Like not a beige but a yellow car. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Charlie Ford alpha 4. >> Go ahead. >> Hey, I'm going to have you out in a second. Okay. >> Okay. I've got her out in my car cuz she wanted to come out of the lobby. Um, she's saying that the people that dropped her off here are just [music] go to three. >> So, they >> she said they parked over in the public's parking lot. She's describing the female as a friend of hers. Are you able to you got enough information on your end for the second to go over there and just check the public's parking lot? I doubt the vehicle's still here cuz [music] I'm not seeing anything that matches it from where I'm standing. But they supposed to be a white a black female and a white male in it. >> All right, I'm going to go see cuz apparently she got dropped off by somebody. Let's see if I can't find the vehicle. >> That's usually how it works when they have like most of the time it's the mules and if they take too long to come out there, they just leave. Yeah. >> With no sign of the individuals, the cops were left with no other choice but to take the suspect in. At this moment, [music] she was struck with the realization that the crime had bounced back on her. Nothing could save her now. Even if she cried a river, actions had consequences, and she was facing hers. >> I know like um that somebody has to get in trouble for it, but I know it's going to be me. [snorts] But like I didn't um never know. You didn't what? [snorts] >> Well, I mean, you have a thought going there and I want to know. I mean, I can tell this is obviously upsetting you. So, cuz I didn't know that this what they were doing. >> But then that's the part that kind of confuses me. So, there wasn't You weren't supposed to give them any of the money once you got it out or anything like that? >> No, she just told me that she was going to help me. Did she tell you how much money she moved over? >> No, she just said, "I'm going to help you. I'm going to give you some money to get back on your feet. You're going to be able to get your hair stuff. You're going to be able to get everything, some food and stuff. >> I'll drive around. See if they parked around somewhere real quick." >> And what were what was so what was the thought on was she just giving you the money? I mean, what was the >> Yeah, I mean, I do her hair for free sometimes. I do a lot of people hair for free because I'm still a beginner and um I need pictures and stuff for like clientele, more clientele for when I did want to get serious, but I don't have the products and stuff to be able to do it. So, I only do people here who like have the products and stuff to do it. So, like that's why I do it for free and I do [music] her hair for free sometimes. So, I feel like that's probably why she just wanted to to help, you know, like she has everything that she wants and stuff like that. She already started her career [music] and stuff like in nursing. So, she probably just wanted to help. That's what that's what I figured. >> Charlie >> and like we've been friends since we were kids. Like I mean I'm a giving person so I would help too. >> Okay. Is there any um What was the guy's involvement in any of this? That's just her boyfriend. He was just driving. I don't think she to be honest, I don't think she knows how to drive. >> Okay. >> Did she show you on the phone while she was transferring money or anything like that? It wasn't you that transferred the money? >> No. >> No. I just been I was just sitting in the room. I was just waiting for her to do it and tell me that um they were ready to go to the thing. >> Okay. When was it she told you she would loan you the money? >> Um the two days before she had came, she just said um when I was like expressing myself to her cuz when she was telling me that she was going to come down here, I said, "Oh yeah, we should hang out." And stuff like that. >> Okay. And did y'all have y'all talked about it at all before that? >> No, not really. I mean, I never really like broke down to her. I mean, I'm going through a lot right now, so like I just actually like start breaking down. >> Okay. Do you happen to know her phone number? >> Said she didn't. You know what area code it is? >> Um 9 I want to say 904.9. I think it's 904. I know it's 9 9 something. >> She said she lives in the Tampa area. Let me go and have you step out. All right. >> Do you got for what? For the um handcuffs. >> Yeah. Forward. Step out for me. Want to put your hands behind your back. You are under arrest. Okay. >> Do you have anything on me that or that's going to poke me, stick me? Any narcotics of any kind? Any weapons of any kind? Anything else on your person? >> She was charged [music] with grand theft and scheme to defraud and obtain property. Next up, we have a dumb teenager whose life changed for the worse after getting caught in an organized fraud scheme. >> But then I also ended going to multiple other branches cashing the same checks from the same person for $1,500. >> I did give my card to somebody for a while, >> okay? >> I won't tell y'all who cuz you know, I mean, at the end of the day, y'all could put it on me. >> You got to learn from no mistakes. >> You don't have anything on you content. Nothing. Nothing. Mom has it all. Okay. On May the 22nd, 2024, a bank manager [music] called the police after observing a strange withdrawal pattern by a customer. The customer in question, [music] an 18-year-old female, was said to have cashed a check of $1,500 multiple times at different bank branches that same day. After receiving the report, officers [music] showed up the location in no time to try and deal with this matter. >> What's your name, man? >> Gerber. >> Gerbert. >> Yeah. Deputy Ethan. Deputy. >> All right. >> Hello. So, >> is this deputy grouper? >> Mhm. >> Just want to talk a little bit about the checks you've been capting cash checks for $1,500. Got a couple different branches. One was here this morning. So, I have that one [music] and they did do it for you cuz you're an existing client of ours for quite a while. He never had any issues. But then I also ended going into multiple other branches cashing the same checks from the same person for $1,500. It just kind of looked a little more suspicious. So we were looking at it more. >> I understand. >> Yep. You said >> I mean I know I did it to >> I did give my card to somebody for a while. >> Okay. >> But I won't tell y'all who cuz No. [music] I mean at the end of the day y'all can put it on me so I never throw nobody up on the bus. Okay. So, yeah. >> You said that was your aunt, right, that wrote you those checks? >> Mhm. >> All right. How old are [clears throat] you? >> 18. >> Okay. So, here, before we go much further, I'm going to read you your rights. Have you ever had your rights read to you? You have? Okay, that's fine. I just I'm going to read them to you. >> If you decide to talk to a lawyer now or I'm sorry, let me restart. [clears throat] If you decide to answer any questions now without a lawyer present, you still have the right to stop answering at any time and speak with a lawyer. Do you understand that? So, after having your rights read to you, do you wish to speak to me? You don't want to You don't want to speak to me. Okay. All right. So, can you stand up for me? >> Can I put my hands up real quick? >> Yep. That's fine. >> And [clears throat] actually, real quick, since you're being comp, I'm going to definitely need you to take your cell phone out of your pocket. Is there anything else in your shorts [music] at all? >> Uhuh. >> Okay. All right. Can you turn around for me? >> All right. Can you turn it kind of backwards? Like Yeah, just like that. And like that'll be probably the most comfortable for you. All right. >> Shortly after rethinking her decision, the girl decided to speak with the officers about how she acquired the check. Her willingness to tell the cops everything, however, became questionable when she refused to release important details that could potentially help the case. U Miranda Rice again. With that in mind, are you willing to answer a few questions? >> Sure. >> All right. So, first question is, how did you become in possession of that check? >> It was given to me. >> It was given to you by >> I can't tell you the name. >> Can't tell the name. >> I don't know it. >> I just met you. >> How y'all met? outside. >> 957. >> You just met him outside. >> My boyfriend. >> How did you get it? >> He told me pretty much. >> Then he gave me the check. Like it's from me. It's legit. It's got me. Tell me your steps. Give me some little cash. >> So he told you it was his so and you believed him. >> Sort of kind of >> cuz I had money, >> right? >> This So what what he got money? What does he do? Does he stuff scammer? >> No, he works. Where he works at? >> Where he works at? >> Can't tell me. >> So, what you going to get yourself caught up with shenanigan, man? For some group that up to care. You say you didn't know him, but where he works at though? >> That's just a coach. Just a coach. >> He's a coach. >> But I don't know where. >> Football team. >> Yeah. don't talk that much. >> So, how long you know how long you know this dude? >> Not long. >> What's that long? A week? Two weeks? 3 weeks? A month? Two months? >> A week. Just >> a week. >> Yeah. >> But so, how y'all plugged up? How y'all connected? >> Just met. >> You just walking down the street and like, "Hey, what's up?" >> Yeah. Like met at the store. >> So, when when was that check written out? He hand it to you written out. What did you write when you got the cash up to the front? >> He wrote it back. >> You signed the back. >> I signed the back. >> When you sign the back when you got here. So why you protecting this person? If if he's doing all this and you're risking your name for the sake of what? >> So $1,500. How much he he cut you? I don't know his name. >> What I'm saying though, if he >> I'm not trying to go to jail. Just turned 18. I don't even have a record, >> right? >> I don't want to be in this situation. If I knew old boy name, I would have told you about it. Like I said, man, these scammers, this is what they do. They listening people and do this type of stuff and you get caught up. Old boy probably give you a real name or whatever. He probably give you a nickname. to run with. >> Or or you could you can know him. You just don't want to give him information. >> What kind of car you drove in? >> See, >> it was the white van. >> It was the white van. >> I can't deal with this [ __ ] I'm not trying to go with that. >> So, how many people in the car? >> Huh? >> How many people's in the car? too. But he was the only one that You feel me? >> Who? He was the only one. What? He was driving. >> Yeah. >> So, who was in the passing? Your boyfriend? >> No. >> Yeah. It was my cousin, but he's not involved in this stuff. >> He has been involved in some type of way. >> He was just there for a ride. He is not involved. The interrogation soon began to drag out as she refused to provide any useful information that could help officers track down the alleged initiator of this fraudulent check. With this behavior of hers, it was apparent that she wasn't ready to help herself out of the situation and was most likely giving the officer a false account of events. >> So why you how you tell buddy to stay for you or go see what's going on? >> I mean, if my cousin my cousin went inside, somebody just took off with me. I'm like, and what the hell? Why y'all left? Why you left my cousin? Let me out. >> He already got his own little things going on. >> So he knew what was going on then. >> No, but he wouldn't put himself in no position to go back to jail cuz he wasn't involved. Simple. >> Just old boy. >> I don't want to give a old boy name. >> I don't know his name. You got no nickname something. >> You can't tell me you met somebody y'all didn't exchange no name or nothing like that. You f to do this type of work for him. >> Yeah, it really is just like starting a trouble like he don't even get no money. >> So a whole week I just Hey, what's up? Hey, what's up? Now I don't address nothing. So he been texting. >> No, just seeing what I see. So they got to be it got to be a middle man, man. It don't make sense at all. So y'all just randomly meet and bump into each other every time. >> I mean, it's not like we met a week ago, but it's not like we just like >> if you met a week ago, >> yeah, communicate somehow. >> We end up seeing each other at the store. It was like and I was telling him got my check and he was like, "Oh, I got you. I got something for you." That's what happened. I >> mean, right now you're looking at for selling the charts. >> How many? >> Four. >> Four. >> Four. invest. >> Well, you got to see a judge tomorrow morning and he's going to set a bond for you and you could choose to pay the whole amount or pay 10% of that and bond's going to be in a couple of thousand just to let you know. So, how many time besides this check, right? How many how many other checks he gave you? >> Two. >> Two more. >> Yeah. Those two we're depositing your account. >> Yeah. >> All right. You can leave that door open. >> Yes. >> Um all at this bank. >> What other bank? >> 60. >> And where else? >> Let's see. I didn't have my car full. What am I even doing? Anyways, let me just check. >> I don't know his name like dead, >> but he be on that. >> He's on camera. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, who's the middleman? >> I can't tell you that cuz that person deserve that cuz they not even doing nothing. He just sit there. >> You got understand if >> you got some organized thing going on, right? And you are the least person that's pregnant. >> So you are basically like the bottom of the bottom, right? No disrespect. So you like the bottom fish. You're [music] not the person that we hiring. I want to know who's the mastermind, who's organizing all this, who's doing all that. You just just the lower end that's going to get [music] caught >> cuz that person know eventually this going to come back fraudulent. You go inside bank. You don't think they got surveillance in here. >> I mean, I would think you know that too, right? You would have known. You know that too also.
