On May 8th, 2024, Maplewood, New Jersey police received calls about a possible subject being intoxicated and getting behind the wheel of his vehicle. Here is what occurred. Woohoo! Control down. So, sometimes when people are under the influence of something, they'll move a little bit slower than they normally would. Okay. So, that's listen simple. Um like I told you, I'm going to try to rule out that you're not under the influence. So, I'm just going to go through the field. I mean, I'm not, but I just Okay. I' I've been here plenty of times. Literally, every morning, I get a bagel. Mhm. I get some coffee. Sammy, that's perfect. That's fine. But listen, like I was trying to say, I'm I'm trying to just I have to now at this point of um our interaction, I just have to go through a few fields of test cuz I'm trying me as the officer, I'm just going to rule out that and say, "Hey, maybe you're not under the influence of anything." And then you'll be good to go. Okay. So, all right. So, this just put your uh legs straight, arms down at your side. Yep. All right. All right. So, for this first test, all right, you're going to look up at my finger. Yep. Okay. So, with your eyes and your eyes only, you're going to follow my finger. Do not move your head. All right. Very good. All right. For the next one, you're going to keep your legs together, arms down at your side. All right. Now, I'm going to get you into the starting position. Okay. So, we're going to use this white line right here. We're going to do the walk and turn test. I'm going to turn off to the side for me so you can see. Um, and I do have a better uh vantage point so you can see the test and I'm going to explain the instructions and demonstrate it to you. So, to begin, we're going to get in the starting position. So, you're going to put your left foot on the on the line. You're going to put your right foot directly in front of your left foot with your right heel touching your left foot. Yes. You're going to start with your left foot on the line. You're going to put your right foot directly. So, you can do this now for me. Put your left foot on the line. Left foot on the line. You're going to put your right foot directly in front of your left foot. Okay. Take a step back. Start again. Left foot. Right foot directly in front of your left foot with your right heel touching your left toes. Okay. So, left foot in front of your right foot. Right foot in front of your left foot. I'm sorry. Sorry. Switch it up. So, right foot directly in front of your left foot. Okay. Arms down your side. Okay. Stay like that. That's a starting position. Tofu. For this test, you're going to do a series of nine held toe steps. Okay. It's going to look something like this. 1 2 3 all the way up to nine. So on the ninth step small steps like this and then you're going to return nine to go just to steps like this. 1 2 3 all the way up to nine. All right. Yep. So during this test, you're going to look down at your feet. You're going to keep your arms down at your side. You're going to count each step out loud, but you're not going to finish the test until it's fully completed. Do you understand those instructions? So, okay. You may begin the test when you're ready. Right. Turn left. Well, before you said nine, I said before you said right foot. So start with your right foot in front of your left foot. Would you like to start over? No, no, no. I'm good. Yeah. So right foot in front of your left. Okay. You're going to go nine heel to toe steps. All right. See the way his heel is touching his toe? That's what you're supposed to be doing. And then when you get up to nine, you're going to take a series of small steps like this. And you're going to return nine hill to step. One, two, three. I'll go to nine. Do you understand? 4. You're going to look at your toe and you're going to count 1 10002 1003 1004 and so on until I tell you to stop. Okay. All right. Do you understand those instructions? 1,000. Yeah. I'll go over again. Whichever leg you want, right or left, you're going to lift to your leg. You're going to count 10,00 1,002 1,003 and all the way up until I tell you to stop. There's no amount of It's uh this this uh test can go on continuous. Okay. It's approximately 30 second test. Yeah. The 30 second test. Yes. Yep. Okay. Uh and one leg up. 30 seconds. Just count out loud. You don't have to worry about the 30 seconds. Just like the officer told you, count 1,00 1, 1,002, 100,004 until he tells you to stop.
