So she throws it in reverse and I said, "Stop, there's somebody coming behind you. There's somebody crossing." So I had to yell for her to stop cuz she almost took out the guy behind her. And then I just put it in park, stepped out of the car. So she jumps out pissed off screaming at me. Her explanations grew increasingly confusing and as she continued to resist, officers began to see a much bigger issue behind her behavior. Dude, I'm not hostile. I was blaring my horn. I don't need to be arrested. >> Well, hold on a second. Just turn around for me. We're going to Just put your I've got nothing going on. >> Lean up against the car. So I think she just wasn't paying attention. So you were pulling out of the law firm like to take a left? No, I was Or where were you? I was at the light. I just went straight across the light. And once I see, could you please tell me if you don't mind? Absolutely. So, your niece was traveling at 25 mph over the speed limit weaving between heavy congested US-19 traffic causing dangers to other vehicles on the roadway. Okay. We conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, complete cordial encounter. Our initial intent was to release her with what's called a notice to appear, which is like a ticket to show up for court. Okay. All right? At that time, I asked her to hand me her keys for the vehicle because of the nature of how she was driving and I didn't want her to drive away with us. I It was a lawful request. She refused that lawful request. I asked her multiple times without getting in her car, without pulling her out of the car. She continued to refuse. At that time, I told my partner officer Compadre to go ahead and have her exit the vehicle. I attempted to pull the keys out of the vehicle. She made con- She swatted my hand away to try and keep me from pulling the key out. I was still pulling the key out. We went, pulled her out of the vehicle, placed her under arrest. She's currently under arrest for reckless driving and resisting an officer with violence and speeding. Speeding, resisting arrest, and what else? And reckless driving. Can I have your Do you have a car? Sure. I can get you a car. Can I get you a car cuz I'm going to write all this down and all that. And that was very sudden. That's all I needed. I had every intention on giving you a call back as soon as we were done here because our first priority is getting her up to the jail, getting our paperwork completed, and then I had every intention on calling you. In Florida, reckless driving is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a fine of 25 to 500 dollars for a first offense, while a repeat offense can result in up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to 1,000 dollars. She was charged with reckless driving, resisting an officer with violence, and speeding. All it would have taken was handing over the keys and she could have gone home, but instead, she chose a different path. Hey everyone, what do you think about this situation?
